INFORMATION BELOW THE CUT

HI HELLO!!

So as we know, in TGS, Jekyll and Hyde had hear the voice of whoever is not currently in control of their body. So @jekyll-everything (Ash) and I have decided that we want to find a way to carry this out in real life.

I am in summer school, at a university level art course as of current, on Monday, 22 of July, I will get into a discord VC with Ash at 10:00 am MDT when my class starts. From then on, until school ends at 5:00 pm, Ash will play ‘Hyde’ and comment on my surroundings, taunt me, and otherwise try to get me to break. Only I will be able to hear this due to my headphones.

The purpose of the experiment?

To see how Jekyll deals with Hyde’s bullshit on a day to day basis, and to put into perspective how hard it would be to keep a straight face at all these comments.

Why can you trust this will be at least somewhat accurate? Well, both Ash and I are both actors, Ash has spent the past two years being in musical theatre classes, and my first ever job was scare acting in October! So we can both garuntee we can hold a facade to some degree. We’ve also held similar experiments before, but they’ve only lasted a half hour at absolute most.

We’re streaming in the Lodger Lounge (musical edition) server where we’re making the song - so to the people in that server, feel free to pop in and out of the vc!

I will make an update post after the experiment is done and we’ve finished compiling all the information!!

turntechGodhead is back, and worse than ever. I do want to like this guy, but he makes it very challenging. John and Rose definitely kind of suck in their own ways, but TG sucks in a less tolerable way. He's the absolute king of having no self awareness, and has a massively inflated sense of his own abilities and importance in what's a life threatening situation for his friends. He seems extremely attention seeking as well, and while it's sweet that he likes talking to John so much (and I get the sense that maybe TG doesn't get the attention he wants from his very cool brother so is leaning on his perhaps less cool friends), I don't really have the patience for it given that John has explained the importance of the situation. Homestuck has shown a lot of openness to believing in the strange phenomena that characters in other media might question, and it seems like TG does believe John, he just wants John to take time out to talk to him anyway.

That said, I'm not going to criticize his rapping simply because I think that's a difficult skill to master, especially improvised rapping, and everyone's got to start somewhere. I couldn't do what he's doing, so who am I to dunk on these ill rhymes?

In the same conversation, John becomes movies once more claiming to be 'haunted by my dead grandma'. By sharing his home with the prank-loving ghost of an older relative, John's now living out the plot of the unthinkably awful Ghost Dad. Can't wait to see him help her with the big business merger she was never able to complete in life.

The loss of Dad's car and the Sburb server disc within is definitely today's most important event. It leaves a real question of 'now what?' and it's also the second thing we've seen plummet into the abyss - the first being the dark portion of the Kernelsprite - so basically guarantees that John will have to attempt a journey down there. Based on the Kernelsprite, I don't know if up and down (represented by light and dark, and perhaps heaven and hell) are the two possible paths the game offers, in which case John choosing the dark path but doing it to save someone he cares about would be a cool story.

John being willing to attack his dad with a hammer to get a copy of a video game but being reluctant to break a car window is extremely good. He draws the line somewhere, and smashing a window isn't funny, so it's off limits.

I felt like the sprite zooming into the living room right at the moment of the quake and accidentally prototyping with the ashes was really narratively convenient, and Rose losing connection right when she's lifting the car feels the same way, especially with her 'I promise I'll handle the car with velvet gloves.' I think it's necessary to take short cuts like this when the writing is happening so fast, and when there's not much forward planning.

And it leads to some very fun art. I feel so bad for John on page 291, and I'm always impressed at how genuinely expressive Homestuck art is. The sprite style we see on most pages is so static but John's facial expressions are the best every time.

A summary/review of parts 1-100 of Homestuck

Let's start things quick and simple. It is the distant year of 2009, where the date is the 13th of April. It is the protagonist John Egbert (aka Zoosmell Pooplord)'s birthday. How fun!

John's actions are very much based around RPG mechanics (the Sylladex, Captchaloging, etc.), which as indicated by the chatlogs seems to be the norm in this world.

Once he opens the magic chest in his room, he gets access to a variety of artifacts, some of which he'll use later. He only takes the smoke pellets at first because he's stupid.

We get some glimpses of the author Andrew Hussie's dated yet charming late-2000's humour through asking John to shit on his desk.

After nailing a Little Monsters poster to his wall (a gift from his Dad), he gets a message from one of his friends on Pesterchum, TG, who says that he got the beta for SBURB for John's birthday.

However, his dad has just come home and John doesn't want to go through the trouble of holding a conversation with him. In the meantime, he figures out how to use his Strife Specibus by allocating the Hammerkind Abstratus, and reads the GameBro magazine, which John seems to have a loathing for.

However, with the freed up room in his Sylladex, he creates a convincing disguise to fool his dad and grab the SBURB beta (it won't).

He goes downstairs into the living room, examines his father's shitty harlequins, knocks over and picks up his Nanna's ashes and opens a large gift for himself, which is also a large harlequin.

Before deciding to sticking fake arms on the harlequin, John gets a message from another Pesterchum mutual, TT.

TT oddly knows everything that John has done up to this point, including being in possession of the SBURB beta and wearing a funny disguise. They tell him to go get the game from his father from downstairs.

After snooping around his father's study and playing a little tune (which is a great way that Homestuck utilizes its medium), John heads outside to the mailbox, to find that dad has already scooped the mail.

But there's a sense that something isn't quite right. With "Windchime Foley" by Clark Powell playing over empty streets and a main title appearing, it implies this scene is the true beginning of the story. The text mentions a "Desolation" that's playing the tune diegetically throughout the streets/town. Maybe it will be a long day.

John heads back inside to finally confront his father and sneakily get the beta, but oops! The disguise didn't work (who would've thunk it?), and there's only to get pass him, which is with a Strife!

(This fight scene's really cool, I quite enjoy this)

After the Colonel's book activates the smoke pellets, John quickly snatches his father's PDA as a joke, and finally gets his hands on the SBURB beta, which is where I ended off.

So is it good? I mean, yeah.

Even if I only read what is a tiny, tiny fraction of Homestuck's story, I can still see how so many people became obsessed over it. The cutesy, almost surreal art style (complete with low quality JPEGS in the vein of Newgrounds), Hussie combining the mystical with the silly in his writing, and the brief bits of music in it illustrate a very "calm before the storm" feeling. I can definitely see how people like Toby Fox were inspired by it.

Despite what some think, the first little bits of Homestuck are an enjoyable experience which foreshadows something bigger yet to come. Solid 8.

I think it’s kinda funny how people will be all over the meta parts of Homestuck but act like it didn’t start until like halfway through the comic when you have the Exiles who literally make use of the medium of the comic’s command system in-universe.

Now I talk fanart. This drawing of Nimura and Arima, original account is deleted now. I had to scroll forever to find it in someone's reblogs again.

Can't explain why but the energy is immaculate. "I want to chew on him" and "I want to kick him down a flight of stairs" is not nearly enough I need them both dead on the floor. Again.

Also I just like the colors and the opposing... styles? I don't know art words sorry, I am a self-taught soul.

They're so pretty and they deserve the world and I love them but also they could absolutely kill me. So I know I said in my last art class post that I would be posting a lot more cause I didn’t have much time left. Uh, I’m at that point where it’s actually not a lot of time left so now this time it’s for real and y’all will be getting lots of art

This is a stencil I made of @definatelymrhyde ocs for worse than I thought Jekyll and Hyde. Will have to try and explain to my art teacher why I drew these characters without mentioning fan fiction? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely

So... there’s an artist on DeviantArt, Sera-Fuku, who has done a rather odd... thing called Porygon-B. It’s a strange thing as a whole, but I find the general design concept to be oddly cute. They just look so extremely soft and squishy and huggable, and I found myself with a sudden desire to draw a Porygon-B.

Sadly, it appears as if Ashley has been chosen as a victim of these random desires, and she’s clearly not happy about this.

On the other hand, Jessie absolutely LOVES her.
