Rewriting The Story

After defeating Cazador and a tryst in the graveyard, it's time for some relationship reflection.

“I lied. In the dungeon.”

Falerin’s half-roused as Astarion speaks. They’d since moved from graveyard to warm inn, tangled together in Fal’s bed. Astarion’s face was buried against the half-drow’s neck, soaking in the warmth, and his breath was cool and grounding against his skin. A good, solid reminder of what they’d both come so close to losing in one panicked moment.

“You what?” Falerin asked thickly.

Astarion let out a small sigh. “I mean, maybe lie is a bit too strong of a word.” He lifted his head to look at him—curls mussed, face still bruised, so wonderfully imperfect that Fal had to actively stop himself from kissing him. “But I did think about…how you would have been the easiest target if we’d met earlier.” He reached his hand up, thumb carefully grazing over a split in Falerin’s lip. “You were terribly obvious, you know. And I hated that.”

“And here I thought I’d been playing hard to get,” Falerin murmured, unable to stop himself from kissing Astarion’s thumb. The vampire’s mouth twitched.

“I looked at you—after I threatened to slit your throat, that is—and I thought ‘Gods, here’s another starstruck idiot, looking at me with doe eyes and thinking he’ll fix me.’ And I knew I could use you and use you to do anything I wanted.”

Falerin shifted, looking up at him. “So why did you hate that?” he asked quietly.

Astarion stayed quiet for a very, very long moment. He tried speaking a few times, only to fall silent as his thumb moved to stroke Falerin’s cheek.

“Because I saw Sebastian in your face,” he said softly. “That same…sweetness, that same breathless desire for something beyond a shag in the forest. And I just…wanted to scream ‘I’m using you, you idiot, can’t you see that?’ But I knew it wouldn’t make a difference even if I did.” He cupped Falerin’s face, red eyes flicking over it. “It took me a long time to love you, but you knew that.”

“I did. Much longer than it took for me to fall in love with you.”

Astarion’s lips turned up at that, and he sighed. “But it didn’t take long for me to know I wanted to give this story a different ending.” He gave a soft little laugh. “Do you recall, when I was using all my lines on you?”

“You mean when you tried to pull the ‘I love you’ card on me?”

“Yes, and you saw right through it. And you said ‘Having fun?’ And…and I was. I was. I may not have loved you, but you were…easy to talk to. Kind. You made me laugh. And for a moment, I saw Sebastian again—and I thought, ‘This time, I can change the story. I’ll make sure this one gets out safe, even if it kills me. I don’t…I don’t have to hurt him.’” He shrugged. “Granted, you tested me so many times, what with playing the hero and getting us in some sort of deadly situation every other day.” He smiled as Falerin laughed. “And then you…saw me. I wasn’t just a…a pretty toy for you.”

“You never were,” Falerin said softly. He reached up, fingers pushing through Astarion’s curls. “That’s not who you are, it never was. You’re Astarion Ancunín. Yes, you’re beautiful. Yes, you’re charming. And yes, you are great in bed. But I fell in love with the way you looked up at the night sky. With the way you try not to show just how much you like kids. With the way you practice your jokes and quips when you think no one’s listening.”

“Oh, gods, you heard that?”

“I did, and I love it. I love you.” Falerin gave a long sigh as he met Astarion’s eyes. “I would have backed off if you asked. I would have accepted you breaking things off. But nothing in any of the realms would have stopped me from giving you a place to just…be.” He wrapped his hand around Astarion’s, bringing it up to rest over his heart. “That’s what I want to give you, for as long as I can.”

Astarion stared at him silently, eyes shining in the dim light of the room. After a few moments, he blinked rapidly, letting out a breathy little laugh.

“Gods, it’s dry in here, isn’t it?” he asked, voice breaking slightly. Falerin smiled, then pulled him back down to rest against him, letting him hide his face. Astarion gripped him tightly, staying silent for several minutes. Finally, in a very small voice, he asked, “Did you mean it? Wanting me to move to Neverwinter with you?”

“I’ve never meant anything more,” Falerin assured, hand going to rub Astarion’s back. “But it’s up to you. The world’s yours for the taking now, and I’ll follow you anywhere.”

There was a small noise, like a muffled sniffle. “I want that. I want…I want to truly start over. I want to leave my death in Baldur’s Gate—and I want to start my life with you.”

“Done. The minute we kill that Netherbrain, we’re leaving.” Falerin gave the side of his head a long kiss. “We’ll write a new story, together.”

Astarion let out a shuddering breath, and he nodded as he curled up tighter to Falerin. “With a happy ending.” He paused. “And a cat.”

Falerin chuckled. “And a cat.”

Why is that? I understand his martial capabilities are exemplary, but I would not have expected… Perhaps it is because you are keeping a close watch on him?” By the time he was finished, she was smiling so much that he was frowning in confusion, which only added to her amusement. “It’s because I love him,” she said softly. His eyes widened in surprise; for several moments he was simply lost for words, and her own eyes twinkled with mirth as she heard familiar footsteps approaching in his silence. “I see,” he said, and although he had recovered himself enough to speak, he still didn’t seem to be over the shock. “And does he… return that love?” “He does,” Regill said, coming to a stop at her side. His eyes were locked on Renth’s, his lips curved into a mischievous little smile, and it took all of her willpower not to laugh. “In love, Derenge?” the paralictor asked, seemingly unsure whether to be more incredulous or judgmental. “First that disaster of a tribunal, and now… this? Has the Bleaching finally addled your brain?” “On the contrary,” Regill answered easily, still smiling, “my Bleaching has been steadily reversing.” Renth’s eyes flicked up to Isanna’s as if to ask if this was some sort of joke; when she offered no explanation, he looked back down at Regill in consternation, and she finally gave in to her laughter.

I wanted to search up online the materials needed for neuvillette ascension for when he comes out (Because I will get him), right? I have now found out I cannot unlock the boss until I do nahidia's act 2 story quest. I... I literally just finished jean's act 1 today. I've been doing genshin for 2 years and almost never did character story quests.

I've had a bit less time to focus on it, but there has been stuff happening. I'm currently working out Techno's and Puffy's character sheets as well as slowly getting ideas for quests.

Like I said tho, less time, half because school and half because in game I'm currently battling with Inazuma and the Chasm. Being a Heizou main is a curse I've been bearing since AR6 and ALL HIS FUCKING ASCENSION MATERIALS. ARE QUEST LOCKED. AND ALL THE QUESTS. ARE AR LOCKED. THIS FUCKING GUY. THIS TWINK SHERLOCK HOLMES WANNABE (that's why I love him). HE IS DRIVING ME UP THE WALL. HE'S STUCK 30 LEVELS LOWER THAN EVERYONE BECAUSE I JUST CANNOT GET HIS ASCENSION MATERIALS.

Ehm. Yeah. Let's just say the AU is going better than my mental state and I will hopefully be posting more about it soon
