There were two panels related to Spy x Family at Anime Expo this year, with the first on Day 1 being Toho Animation's panel featuring both Spy x Family and Kaiju No.8.
The panel started with the SxF portion, with the special guests being the series director, Kazuhiro Furuhashi, and the CODE: White director, Takashi Katagiri. They also had the six SxF ThreeZero figures on the stage with them 😀
The MC asked them some questions, like what their favorite scenes were from their respective works and who their favorite character is. They also showed behind-the-scenes footage of both the Loid/Fiona tennis match in season 1, and Yor's fight scene against Type F in the movie. We got to see both of these scenes in rough animatic sketch form and then in line art form, which was pretty cool (it wasn't clear if photo/video was prohibited at this panel, but I didn't want to risk it by being caught blatantly recording these exclusive clips, lol). Then they showed off some of Anya's unused outfits from the movie.
At the end, they showed this original illustration by Kyoji Asano, made specifically for this event 😁
And that was it for the SxF part of the panel before they moved on to Kaiju No.8...and to be honest, it kinda overshadowed the SxF part, mostly because it featured two of the main Kaiju No.8 voice actors, one of which was extremely hilarious and charismatic. Plus there were a lot more segments compared to the SxF part. The interview with the guests seemed longer, they did three live voice overs, showed a pre-recorded special message from the band that performs the Kaiju No.8 opening, and then they took a group photo with the audience (and maybe something else that I'm forgetting). It seemed like the SxF part took up about 35% of the panel's time while Kaiju No.8 took up 65%. Not sure why it felt so unbalanced, but it was still fun.
Next was the panel on Day 3 for Production IG and their related studios WIT and Signal MD. Heads of each studio were there, including George Wada from WIT. Photo/video wasn't allowed once the panel started, but it basically consisted of an interview with the different guests, then trailers/teasers for their upcoming projects, then a Q&A session.
WIT is the studio that makes SxF, so I was hoping for any news about season 3, specifically if WIT would be more involved with it than they were with season 2. For those who don't know, season 1 of SxF was made by both WIT Studio and Cloverworks. But when they decided to make both season 2 and the movie in 2023, they split up the work, with WIT focusing on the movie while Cloverworks did pretty much all the work on season 2 (which is why the animation in season 1 and season 2 looks a bit different). According to this tweet, the official staff listing for season 3 is the same as season 2, meaning WIT will once again have little involvement. But despite this, they had a slide during the presentation with the season 3 promo image (preceded by the CODE: White teaser trailer, which made the crowd go wild - glad there were lots of SxF fans in the audience!) George Wada also said in regards to season 3 that they're "working hard on it."
I wanted to confirm during the Q&A if WIT would again take a backseat during season 3's production as well, but unfortunately the panel only had a few minutes left when it was close to my turn, and then they opted to pick a few random people in line for their last questions (which I thought was kind of unfair). Guess we'll just have to wait and see if anything changes with that staff listing once we get closer to season 3's release.
Overall, while Takuya Eguchi's appearance at last year's AX was more fun, it was still cool to attend this year's SxF-related panels as well. Hopefully season 3 will either be airing or close to being released at next year's AX, so we'll have even more SxF events!

listed inspirations for Hansi's characterization: "Hayato", one of Isayama's childhood friends, Tomohiro Machiyama
everything from the original manga, isayama, editorial and publishers on hansi's gender: -Sep 2009, volume 1 there is a feminine character with light eyes, medium hair, middle parted bangs and a ponytail in the same position as Hansi in the anime adaptation.
-Dec 2009, Isayama first details Survey Corps veteran designs including Hansi with dark messy hair, brown eyes and goggles.
-Feb 2010, Hansi first appears unnamed with the same design in the side story before chapter 10.
~Feb 2011, Hansi appears in the storyboard for chapter 19 with the placeholder name "Yamada Hanako" alongside Micke's "Yamada Taro", the equivalents of "Jane Doe" and "John Doe". My personal speculation is that Isayama couldn't easily remember the foreign names for these characters, and quickly used gendered Japanese placeholders as he said before he struggled to remember the names of his characters.
-Mar 2011, Hansi's first named appearance in the manga. My correct spelling of their name is now relevant, as "Hansi" is a gender neutral diminutive of the name "Johannes". In Germany its association is male leaning, likely due to other male "si" or "zi" ending diminutives and the male association of "Hans".
-Mar 2011, Hansi's gender is first questioned by readers. Isayama responds to these questions on his blog by not giving a clear answer. Worth noting that around this time through 2011, Hansi's gender was of concern to Japanese readers wanting to ship them with men on the condition of them being female. Isayama's comment only contributed to the issue.
-Aug 2011, Isayama includes a fake preview with volume 5 depicting them with female clothing, breasts and a misogynistic trope. It can be taken that this was his answer to the controversy.
~Late 2011 through 2012, not explicitly concerning Hansi, but Isayama first talks about Shinsei Kamattechan online which is my only lead on where he would have learned about gender nonconformity/genderqueer/trans identity.
-Sometime between Apr-Sep 2012 (Dates from some scans of production material with original EXIF I have, I'm unfamiliar with S1 production beyond that) Kyoji Asano character designer and animation director for the anime adaptation designs Hansi's appearance. He later says "I thought that [Hansi] was female and designed [their] character sheet [thinking that], but director Araki (Tetsuro Araki) murmured '[I] thought [they] were male'. So there is an answer that [we] confirmed with Isayama. There was a specification that [their] hair is tied up carelessly without a feeling that [they] take care of it." ~Sometime between Apr-Sep 2012 Isayama provides reference material for the anime adaptation, including for Hansi. He notes that their status as otherwise female would be in question from the appearance of their face, and later says in an interview that Hansi "became female" for the anime, which I take to mean "they became obviously female sexed".
-Apr 2013 Isayama's editor replies to a question asking "Is Hansi a woman? I firmly believe that [they're] a woman, but there are people who say [they're] a man because of [their] sometimes masculine appearance and way of speaking" with "I think [you're] unmistakably correct, so I've never even asked Isayama!"
-Jun 2013 Kodansha USA release the official English translation of volume 5, mistranslating Hansi's name as "Zoë Hange" and explicitly gendering them as female.
-Jul 2013 at Anime Expo 2013 S1 producer George Wada is asked why they decided to make Hansi female sexed, he responds (in English) "This is secret"
-Jul 2013 Isayama's editor replies to a question asking "Is Hansi male? Female? Please tell me!!!" with "It's a secret lol"
-Aug 2013 The social media manager of the Kodansha USA Tumblr blog responds to a question about Hansi's name and gender saying that their gender is up to interpretation, and that they gender [them] as female. It is worth noting that this caused a huge controversy. According to my memory the outcome of this controversy was the English speaking fandom canonizing them as nonbinary. I should look back through it in detail to see if there was widely spread misinformation (which seems true, if "Hanji uses gender neutral pronouns in Japanese" and the mess of the Kodansha USA social media manager's response is any indication). I guess I will tentatively put this down to language barrier/mistranslation/widely unknown context.
-Nov 2013 Isayama's editor replies to a question asking "Hasn't Hansi's gender been decided?" with "I asked Isayama before, it seems like either is fine."
-Jan 2014 The Kodansha USA social media manager replies to a question wanting clarification on their gendering Hansi as female that at some point Isayama issued a correction to them stating to use gender neutral pronouns for Hansi. Kodansha USA print they/them going forward, but as of the 19th printing of volume 5 in circulation in August 2024 their pronouns were still not corrected. This is presumably internally a point of contention for Kodansha USA, as in the English release of Attack on Titan Junior High volume 1 a few months later in March 2014 the translator was maliciously compliant.
~Likely late 2014 or early 2015, some months before July 2015, the script for the Attack on Titan Junior High anime adaptation is finalized and includes a joke about Hansi being in the women's bathroom. They are referred to with the name "Hanako" which is the same name Isayama used as placeholder for them in 2011. The broadest reading of it is "Hansi doesn't belong in the women's bathroom", but whether this is commentary on canon or fan reaction is ambiguous.
-Jun 2015 Isayama states that "If there was something like a character song for Hansi, it would have the image of this [song] 'jibunrashiku'" which is about struggling to conform to gender labels by Shinsei Kamattechan. You can read a really good translation of the lyrics here.
-Nov 2015 Hansi's figure for Gekkan Shingeki no Kyojin Koushiki Figure Collection is released with an interview (not my translation) that mentions Hansi is to the best of my interpretation "ambiguously sexed", as he references a drag queen/female entertainment persona, who are both physically obviously and generally regarded as female characters, though much less so in Japan. He also says "I wanted to depict Hansi as appearing 'he'/'she'" (alternatively, "like 'him'/'her'", in reference to Matsuko), "a little away from the real world (lit. 'distant from [this] sad world'; meaning like 'away from (difficult) realities of being alive')", "with a feeling of freedom that [they] cannot be put into a category."

I held off watching cos I don’t usually get into TV series...they are usually too longwinded and drag out without payoff. But I finally understand the hype of SPY X FAMILY. 1st season is a MUST WATCH! But the current 2nd season is kinda fillery.
Spy × Family is an anime television series based on the manga series of the same name by Tatsuya Endo. Produced by Wit Studio and CloverWorks, the series is directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, with character designs by Kazuaki Shimada while Kazuaki Shimada and Kyoji Asano are chief animation directors.

The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered announced for PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC

NIS America has announced turn-based RPG The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch in early 2024.
The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered is a remastered version of the 3DS game The Legend of Legacy, which first launched on January 22, 2015. The game’s development staff includes multiple industry veterans who have worked on the SaGa and Final Fantasy series, including designer Kyoji Koizumi, promotional illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi, art director Masayo Asano, character designer Ryo Hirao, and monster designer Yuichiro Kojima.
Pre-orders for the $79.99 limited edition are now available via NIS America Online Store. It includes a copy of the game, digital soundtrack, mini art book, 55-page “Chronicles of Avalon” art book, one-disc original soundtrack composed by Masashi Hamauzu, cloth poster, seven art cards, and a collector’s box.

When would you say you, as an artist, transitioned from precisely imitating the art style of whatever work you are drawing art for (to the point where it was routinely confused for official art) to having your own distinct artstyle?
I wouldn't say that I ever transitioned between the two, because at a certain point I let go of deliberately trying to have a specific artstyle since it's always changing. I came to realise that no matter what style a person is trying to draw, even if they're trying to imitate someone else, their own personal way of drawing will show through. When I draw fan art of things I always want to try and show the aspects of it that make it feel like 'that thing' or 'that character' to me, and this naturally ends up getting absorbed into the way I draw in the future.
I think the only two things I've drawn that were that close to the official artwork are Attack on Titan (kyoji asano's style specifically) and OMORI, since I love them a similar amount and really wanted to learn how to recreate how they look. Sometimes I will try to replicate a style, other times I will just colour however I like. Whatever someone thinks my distinct style is will pretty much be determined by them based on which of my drawings they've seen, and I'm cool with that.
I think right now something people find to be recognisable as my art is the way I colour, and even that is something adapted from my friend I look up to, hinann_bot, because I really loved the way their colours look I figured out my own way of doing it using the methods I learned to colour in the past. Tbh the only real consistent 'my style' things are probably how I've been using the same line and blending brushes for the past 5 years.

Em uma recente apresentação do aguardado remake de One Piece, intitulado "The One Piece", o diretor Masashi Koizuka, conhecido por seu trabalho em Attack on Titan e Moonrise, fez declarações empolgantes para os fãs da obra de Eiichiro Oda.
Koizuka enfatizou seu compromisso em manter a fidelidade aos temas centrais do mangá original: "Os temas do mangá são profundos, abordando questões como guerra e racismo. A obra permite aos leitores refletirem sobre isso enquanto se divertem. Essa é a parte mais intrigante e o verdadeiro encanto de One Piece."
