Did I miss my window on the drunk drabbles!? Could I request drunk crosshair getting messy drunk? Pls <3 much love and remember to stay hydrated
no you're weren't too late :) i loved this prompt idea!!
words: 877
clone troopers masterlist
It was clear that Crosshair hadn’t drank in a while, because according to Wrecker he used to be able to handle his liquor better than the entire Bad Batch combined, but now it had taken barely three drinks before he was completely out of his mind.
Slumped over on the countertop of Cid’s bar, he burped loudly for the entire room to hear, and Hunter just rolled his eyes with a sigh. You watched the sniper with a curious expression, checking to see if the glass he was holding was in danger of falling to the floor (or at least, that’s what you told yourself).
You had held something of a fascination with Crosshair, having joined the squad when he was still working with the Empire. And now that he was back, you couldn’t help the way you wanted to get to know him, no matter how prickly and standoffish he may have seemed.
Hunter could see where your eyes kept shifting to, and he raised his eyebrows at you. “Just let him be,” he said quietly. “I think he has a lot of feelings that he needs to work through.”
You nodded, but didn’t want to completely listen to the advice. Clearly he was more drunk now than he had been in a while, possibly more drunk than he had ever been. It didn’t seem right to just leave him somewhere to figure everything out himself, and when the rest of the Batch retired to the ship to go to sleep, you elected to stay behind.
“Are you sure?” Echo had asked you, a concerned expression on his face. “I can stay here if you want, this way he has someone to make sure he doesn’t pass out in an alley.”
You laughed, patting the ARC trooper’s shoulder and shaking your head. “No, don’t worry about it. I know you’re tired, and I should be fine here on my own.” He nodded, and only left the cantina after making you promise to comm him if anything went wrong.
And just like that, you were alone with Crosshair.
He was mumbling to himself at this point, and you wondered what else would happen before you were finally able to convince him to go back to bed. From what the rest of the Batch had told you about him, he didn’t seem like the type to cry while drunk, but you never knew.
“Anotherrrr,” he slurred, holding out the empty bottle of beer that he had finished.
“Absolutely not, Grumpy,” Cid said from behind the bar, shooting you a look that screamed get him out of here or I’m going to lose it. “You’re being cut off for the evening.”
Crosshair mumbled something not-so-nice under his breath, and you snapped your fingers, causing him to look over in your direction. The stern expression on your face and the way you shook your head made your feelings clear. “Oh I get it,” he drawled. “You’re my babysitter for the evening. How does it feel to be stuck with the job nobody wants?”
“For your information, I chose to remain here and make sure you got back to the ship safely,” you snapped.
“How noble, do you want a prize?” he sneered, and you tried to remember that this was likely just the alcohol talking. “Still, it wasn’t like anyone else was going to do it.”
For a moment, you could read his true feelings through his expression, he was sad, and he didn’t know what to do about it. Instead of trying to argue the point further, especially to a man who would in no way remember this the next morning, you decided to try a different approach and try to herd him back to the ship. And for the most part, it was successful, once you managed to get Crosshair to an open area. He was certainly more drunk than he was used to, given the fact that he stubbed his toe twice (on two different tables!), and he threw up a little in Cid’s trash can on the way out. After he realized that you weren’t going to go away, and that you didn’t shrink away from his insults, Crosshair got a little easier to deal with.
Once you finally made it back to the Marauder, you literally had to wrap your arm around his waist and get him into his bunk. Hunter was still awake, and he looked at you two with an odd expression, but you preemptively silenced any comment he would have made with a quick glare.
The touches you shared with Crosshair seemed far too intimate for a man you barely knew, but there was no way he would have any recollection of this, which made it a little easier to process. You rifled through the medkit to look for a pain reliever, and you left two of them on the little ledge next to his bunk, along with a canteen of water for the next morning, because he was going to need it.
And as you laid down in your own bunk, you tried to forget the feeling of him laying his head on your shoulder and his fingertips gripping your waist, but you knew that wouldn’t be happening any time soon.

The Rambles Return
Ya girl's back and she's got more thoughts about Echo!
It's been a while since I've done one of these (life be hectic and all) but with season 3 coming out soon I'm revisiting season 2 and I have some more thoughts about episodes 1 and 2. When the episodes came out I touched on the conversations that Echo has with Omega and how he handled the fact that she was pushing too hard to prove herself. Originally, I said that his understanding of her feelings came from a) knowing that she is a child and is more likely to make reckless decisions and b) knowing that what he said could have been worded differently and that "our lives are like this because of Omega" could easily lead to her feelings being hurt (even though the statement isn't wrong and I still stand by that). But looking at the episodes now, I think that there is an extra layer to it.
And it's that Echo understands what it's like to have to try and prove your worth.
Echo was trained in Domino Squad, who were considered by many to be incompetent. It got to the stage where they were almost barred from being allowed to join the GAR completely and only passed their training after being given a second chance. He had to work so hard to prove that he was valuable, that he could be what the army needed, and that he wasn't just a burden. And when Domino passed their training, it showed the higher ups that this group of clones could pull their weight and be valuable members of the GAR.
And then everything went wrong on the Rishi Moon. 3/5 of the squad members were taken out and Fives and Echo were not only left to mourn their brothers, but to carry on going, to prove that even after everything that they had been through, they could be the soldiers that the army wanted them to be. A job that became even harder upon being conscripted into the 501st. Imagine the amount of pressure that those two must have felt to prove themselves and show that they deserved to be in one of the most prominent clone battalions.
And they did prove themselves. Their promotion to ARC Trooper and their subsequent involvement in important missions going forward demonstrated how capable these two were. They could finally stand in front of the people that doubted them, knowing that they had proved their worth.
Cut to the Citadel mission.
Echo gets injured, kidnapped, and turned into a cyborg. His brain is harvested for information and thousands of his brothers die because of the information that the separatists got a hold of. The guilt, the self-hatred, the depression and the PTSD that Echo deals with as a result of that would drag him back down. Because now he's back where he started. Suddenly he has to prove himself all over again: prove that he can still fight, prove that he still has the same level of intellect he did, and prove that he isn't a traitor. If anything, Echo had even more to prove now than he did in training.
Echo knows what it's like to want to prove your worth, to fight to show that you deserve to be there as much as anyone else, and that you are not a burden. It's why he understands Omega.
Because he understands what it's like to feel worthless.
Echo despises feeling useless. "The Empire's growing stronger and we're doing nothing about it". It isn't just about what's right, or about preventing the worst from happening, it's also about an inability to sit by the sidelines and prove to everyone that doubted you that you are the waste of space they said you were.
He's someone who will always be driven to do the right thing. But he's also someone who will forever be trying to prove his worth. He can't do nothing because he got belittled for being incompetent. He can't do nothing because if he lets the Empire take over he could be labelled as a traitor. He can't do nothing because Echo doesn't want to be nothing.
It's why he doesn't question Omega. Because he gets it. He's been in her position more than he should have been.
-----------
Now don't get me wrong. This isn't me saying that this is Echo's only driving force. There are so many different layers and reasons to why he does what he does throughout the series, and a lot of that is rooted in the fact that fundamentally, Echo is a good person. He isn't flawless (no-one is) but he is good. However, his past and his trauma will always be an influence in his actions and his constant need to prove himself is a huge factor in that.
#I missed doing these!#I do need to get back into the rhythm though#trying to organise my thoughts is feeling a bit clunky atm#but I'm hoping to keep these up with s3!#little bit difficult because I'm much busier than I was with s2#but we'll see what happens#the bad batch#arc trooper echo#tbb echo#omega#tbb omega

SFW Alphabet: Echo
Summary: SFW Alphabet for clone trooper Echo — featuring headcanons for both before the Citadel and after Skako Minor. Pairing: Echo/reader; gender-neutral reader with no mentions of their appearance. Rating: GEN — SFW Warnings: None — allusions to war violence, PTSD, trauma, some language, fluff, relationship firsts, overall romance. Word Count: 5.9k
You guys can find the template I used here.
NSFW Alphabet
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Before the Citadel: Affection with Echo is kind of private. Technically, as a clone, he’s not really allowed to engage in romantic relationships. So unless it’s around the brothers he’s especially close to (Fives, Rex) he’s not liable to show much open affection. But even though he tries to keep it private, the way he smiles at you speaks to how much he cares. His eyes never leave you — he smiles more, his body is always angled towards you. Anyone with eyes can tell he has feelings for you. But in private, Echo will express his affection through sweet nothings whispered in your ears and physical touch. He adores having his arms around you, or holding your hand, just simply touching you. Everything from casual touches to more intimate embraces.
After Skako Minor: Affection from Echo, after Skako Minor, mainly comes in the form of endearments, compliments, and eventually, physical touch. I ascribe to the headcanon that this man has zero fucks to give after Skako, so he has no qualms about showing affection in public. But, the ultimate form of trust from this man is letting you touch him, and returning your affection. His body is something he really isn’t comfortable with anymore, but you know when he lets you touch his prosthetics, or run your fingers over his scalp, that he completely trusts you. And once that’s reached, the man is constantly touching you. Physical affection to the nth degree. He does not care if others are around, if he wants to hold your hand, or kiss you, or wrap you in his arms, he is going to. He has lost too much to waste energy on caring about PDA.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Before the Citadel: Echo is the sweetest best friend anyone could ever ask for. He always remembers your favorite snacks and drinks, your hobbies, the holoseries you enjoy watching. This is a man who will instantly sense when you need a shoulder to cry on, or when you need a quiet night at home, or when you need to rant about anything and everything, or when you are in the mood for a night out. He caters to your every need as a best friend, almost to the point that you feel you’re a shitty friend in comparison. The friendship starts one of three ways — and they all begin at 79’s. Either you were both there as the Designated Driver/Responsible Friend and bonded over watching your friends and brothers (read, Fives) get absolutely fucked and make fools of themselves. OR, you got shitfaced with your friends and Echo felt responsible for getting you home and you latched onto him. OR, the opposite — Echo got absolutely wasted with Fives and you sort of adopted him by helping him get back to the barracks. The absolute shame and embarrassment Echo radiated when he tracked you down to thank you was incredibly endearing.
After Skako Minor: Echo is the absolute perfect best friend. Caring, funny, kind. The man will do anything and everything for you, much like before Skako Minor. However, this man deserves a best friend who will do exactly the same for him — anything and everything. You meet the Bad Batch at some point, probably before Skako, so you are familiar with them before Echo joins the squad. You see this clone, pale and gaunt, grumpy, but polite, and just instantly adopt him. The others needle you, indignant that you seem to like Echo more than them, but they are quietly thrilled that you’ve taken to Echo so much. The man needs someone to take care of him. Someone outside the squad who will be able to restore a sense of normalcy to his life. Echo, at first, is wholly confused about your enthusiastic friendship, but soon finds himself just accepting it. And eventually, returning it. Wholeheartedly.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Before the Citadel: Gentle cuddles. I like to believe that at first, in a relationship, Echo is unsure of himself, lets you set the pace and establish the boundaries. This isn’t because he’s shy or anything, but rather because he already feels so deeply for you that he doesn’t want to scare you off. After a few months however, he’ll grow more comfortable showing his feelings through cuddles. He’s never demanding, not really, but later in your relationship, there’s rarely a point where he isn’t touching you. Resting his head in your lap, hugging you from behind, even just having you lean against him. He just likes touching you. The Citadel happens before your relationship could develop further.
After Skako Minor: Much like before the Citadel, Echo is quite hesitant when it comes to cuddles at first. He’s very conscious of his cybernetic limbs, and the power ports on his chest and head. But over time, he’ll grow more comfortable with physical touch. And then, just like before, it’s casual contact, all the time. Mindlessly trailing his fingers over you, sitting down beside you with your thighs touching, falling asleep on your shoulder because Maker this man does not sleep. Unlike before, however, Echo is no longer afraid to ask for affection. He will simply go ahead and take your hand, or wrap his arm around you. He’s still not demanding (though he can be when it suits him) but he is simply more confident than before.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
Before the Citadel: The desire to settle down is something Echo keeps safely locked away with the rest of his impossible hopes and dreams. He is a soldier, and Echo won’t lie to himself or you. The possibility of getting to settle down with you someday is slim. But it doesn’t stop him from hoping. And this is a man who is more than willing to help you around your home — dishes, changing your sheets, picking up clutter. He’s not a great cook, but he’s willing to learn. And he does! With your help, he can cook basic things. He enjoys the domestic moments he has with you, and wonders, hopes, that one day this will be his life.
After Skako Minor: Hoh boy. If you think Echo kept his desire to settle down secret before, it’s nothing compared to now. Echo was more than thankful to return to the war. It gave him a sense of purpose again. But in a way, it reinforced what he thought before — that the dream of settling down was just that. A dream. Still doesn’t stop the hopes and desire. Echo, compared to the rest of the Batch, is a downright neat freak. He actually washes his blacks on a semi-regular basis, and doesn’t allow himself to stink up the inside of his armor too bad. He likes occasionally cooking for the Batch as well, even if it’s something simple, because if he has to eat another ration bar, dammit, he will explode. And cleaning? Oh, boy, he tries, but the barracks stink so bad he’s not sure any amount of cleaning can get rid of the stench. You can bet, if this man ever does settle down, he is going to keep his home clean.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Before the Citadel: I genuinely could never see Echo being with anyone he didn’t have genuine feelings for. But he would break up with someone for that exact reason. Because he felt so deeply for them. And Echo knows that as a soldier, he is more than likely to die in this war. He would never want to subject you to the pain of losing him. He would break up with a partner to try and save them pain.
After Skako Minor: Similarly to before the Citadel, Echo would never be with someone he doesn’t have deep feelings for. But in a world where the Empire rules, he does not live a safe nor stable life. He and his brothers are wanted deserters and mercenaries. He wouldn’t be able to visit you, if ever. And he knows that if you were caught affiliating with him and his brothers, you would be arrested, or even killed. He would break up with you to keep you safe. And he would break both your hearts in the process.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Before the Citadel: The boy is not a flighty partner, so as soon as he gets into a serious relationship, he is committed. But the idea of marriage is not really something Echo has ever really been allowed to entertain, so when he enters a relationship with you, he’s content with that alone. He doesn’t kid himself into thinking that he’ll always be around, and he would never want to get your hopes up by promising more than he can. But… after the war… Marriage would 100% be something he wants.
After Skako Minor: Again, Echo is not exactly a flighty partner. But he is more hesitant than before in actually entering a relationship. So by the time you two are together, he’s already more than halfway in love with you. Again, marriage is not really an idea he’s been allowed to entertain, despite his desire to settle down someday. And his life with the Batch is not a stable one. But Echo is second to Hunter in the desire to settle down with you. So you can bet, if the opportunity arises, marriage will be something Echo wants with you.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Before the Citadel: At the start of your relationship, Echo lets you set the pace, so he is always gentle with you physically and emotionally. Again, I believe Echo doesn’t want to scare you away with the depth of his feelings for you. But once your relationship has developed some, he’ll start to show his feelings more and more. Physically, he’ll be more commanding. More sure of what he wants. And emotionally, he is still always gentle, but never enough to make you doubt how deeply he feels. Even when he’s teasing you, or joking around, or when he’s been gone and it’s the first time he’s seen you in months, he is always gentle.
After Skako Minor: Emotionally, your relationship with Echo can only ever be described as intense. But even then, there’s a gentleness in the intensity. Because Echo values the romantic and emotional side of your relationship too much to be apathetic or rough with you. And physically, it takes a while for Echo to become confident touching anyone again, but he’ll get there. Physically, your relationship is still intense. But there is always, still, an undercurrent of gentleness, an undercurrent of how much Echo cherishes you.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Before the Citadel: Yes. Like most clones, Echo is prone to physical affection and extremely starved for it. And Echo gives amazing hugs. Whenever you want. Whenever he wants. His hugs are warm, encompassing, comforting. They’re the hugs of a brother, a best friend, and a romantic partner all rolled into one. He doesn’t let go until you do. And even then, he might ask for another hug because he wants one.
After Skako Minor: Echo is as fond of hugs after Skako Minor as he was before the Citadel. But he knows he’s not exactly comfortable to touch anymore. The scomp link arm, armor, and data ports aren’t exactly comfortable and he knows that and is very conscious of it. His body has also changed in other ways — he’s skinner. He’s paler. He’s colder. Even after he gains some weight and color back, he still runs a bit cooler than before. But please, for the love of god, give this man hugs. He needs them, craves them. And as soon as he comes to the realization that you adore hugging him as much as he adores being hugged, well, you’ve brought this upon yourself really. Hugs and touch, all hours of every single day.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Before the Citadel: Echo falls hard and fast. Full stop. But he is conscious of the fact that your feelings and his might be out of sync. So he’s probably going to wait to say it until you do. And he’ll be so startled by it that it might take his brain a couple seconds to catch up to his ears. Then he’ll return it, voraciously. But before you tell him, he might whisper it to you, after you’ve fallen asleep, and in Mando’a, just in case you can still hear him. Telling you, even when he knows you don’t fully understand, brings comfort to him.
After Skako Minor: There are certain things Echo could care less about after Skako Minor, but when it comes to you, sometimes he still feels like that handsome young ARC Trooper, unsure how to handle how deeply he feels. But there will come a point, maybe after he almost dies, maybe after you almost die, that he decides he doesn’t care anymore. He loves you. And he is going to tell you. He’s usually not shy about showing how much he cares in front of his brothers, but for this, he’ll wait until the two of you are alone. And then he’ll tell you. And the intensity, the sincerity, the sureness with which he tells you brings tears to your eyes. And from that point on, there is no hesitation in exchanging those three little words.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they get jealous?)
Before the Citadel: Echo isn’t really prone to jealousy. He trusts you as his partner and he’ll only really get jealous when someone is flirting with you (unwarranted) at a bar. Sometimes he gets self-conscious when this happens because he knows someone else would be able to provide a more stable relationship for you, but he trusts you. And you trust him. All you have to do is reassure him that you’re his and you’re committed to him before he feels better.
After Skako Minor: Echo still isn’t really prone to jealousy, but he is more likely to get self-conscious if he sees someone flirting with you. Because he knows (thinks) you could do better than him (“Shut up,” you tell him, smiling). He is more likely to publicly claim and show off your relationship however. Echo becomes more possessive after Skako Minor, and he’s not afraid to show it.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Before the Citadel: Echo likes to kiss you on the lips, sure, but he also likes to kiss your cheeks, your temple, your forehead, your nose, your knuckles, your collar, your neck, your hair, your shoulder. Kisses with Echo are plentiful. And whether they are quick, short, gentle, or more rough, they are always full of meaning. Echo personally likes to be kissed on his jaw and forehead. They’re just such romantic spots, and kissing him there will guarantee he will be putty and blushy in your arms.
After Skako Minor: Your first kisses with Echo are hurried, frenzied almost. As if it’s going to be the last time he gets to kiss you. It takes a long time for Echo to calm down, to realize that you’re not going anywhere. But even then, Echo loves to kiss you and he loves to put everything he feels into it. He likes to see bruises on your lips and the starry look in your eyes after you make out. He likes to kiss your cheeks until you blush and kiss the hands and fingers that are always so loving and gentle with him. Echo simply adores kissing you. But kissing him? Kiss his forehead, and he’ll melt. Kiss his prosthesis, and he’ll be so touched tears almost come to his eyes. Kiss his nose and he’ll scrunch it cutely. Just kiss Echo. He deserves it.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Before the Citadel: First of all — ALL, and I do mean, ALL clones have the Jango dad gene. But also, they all grew up surrounded by cadets and kids on Kamino. And for that reason, a lot of clones are naturally good with kids. Echo is no exception. He’s the one who will go color with the more introverted kids in the corner with Rex while Fives and Jesse and Hardcase are running around in the dirt with the more rowdy kids. And we all know Echo is a total Mom friend, and will fuss over different things — “No, you cannot eat worms, Lyle,” “Let’s not try and befriend a wild rancor, please, Seleena,” “Come on, it’s past bedtime. You too, Fives.” But kids undeniably like them, and he likes them too.
After Skako Minor: Kind of a toss-up. Some kids are a little nervous around Echo because of his cybernetics and prosthetics, but most kids surprising think he’s really cool and are actually fawning all over him. He’s got metal legs? Cool!! He’s part of the Bad Batch? Double cool!! And he’s worked with Captain Rex and General Skywalker and was an ARC Trooper? That’s it. The kids officially think Echo’s the coolest person ever. Echo’s kind of bemused by it, but entertains their questions and inquiries. Eventually, after getting over his surprise, he might go play with them. Secretly, he adores the kids, just like before, but not only is he not really used to them, but he’s still nervous because he’s different, and he’s a clone. But the idea of having some little ones of his own someday is not unappealing… He’s still a Mom through and through though, and it’s endlessly entertaining for you to watch.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Before the Citadel: Lazy mornings with Echo are rare, but both you and Echo cherish them. I headcanon that Fives is the early riser while Echo is a zombie in the mornings. The boy needs at least three cups of caf before he can function properly, and it’s kind of amusing to see his messy, ruffled hair and puffy eyes. He’s so cute that way. You both enjoy sleeping in though, just cuddled in each others’ arms, before dragging yourselves from the blankets and making a late breakfast. Your cuddling moves to the couch until you’re both forced to get on with your day.
After Skako Minor: Echo is still not a morning person. He still needs at least three cups of coffee in the mornings before he resembles something other than a grumbling, grumpy cyborg. It’s still endlessly amusing for you. Lazy mornings are still rare, and still very much cherished. Echo is very much liable for convincing you that you don’t need to get up and can lay in and cuddle with him. And he can be unfortunately convincing. Unfortunately because sometimes you have things to do, dammit, and stop being so cute, Echo. All he has to do is shoot you that sleepy, affectionate smile of his though and you’re already crawling beneath the blankets again. His smile will turn smug and you’ll smack his chest before snuggling into him.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Before the Citadel: Similarly to mornings, having a night out with Echo is rare. Quiet nights are even rarer, because Echo is prone to being talked into going to 79’s and getting shitfaced with his brothers. When the mood strikes, you’re more than happy to accompany him. And Echo is a flirty, fun drunk so that’s always a joy for you. But every once in a while, the night will find the both of you at home, curled around each other on the couch watching a holomovie and simply cuddling. And occasionally, the night will be spent with Echo spending his meager shore leave stipend to take you out to a nice restaurant and spoil you. But no matter what, the night will always end with you two passed out, sleeping in the arms of the other.
After Skako Minor: Sleep is rare for clones, and dreamless sleep is even rarer. Echo sleeps both more and less than most of the Batch, which is saying something. He takes occasional naps, but sleeps less through the night. But despite that, nights can find the both of you stealing some private moments away together, away from his nosy bunch of brothers. Or acting as the responsible ones as the rest of them get shitfaced at 79’s or another club. (Or you acting responsible when Echo decides to join them). Nights spent together, going to dinner or on a date, are incredibly rare and that makes them all the more special for you both. But just like before, the night ends with you two passed out, sleeping in the arms of the other.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Before the Citadel: Echo delights in getting to know you, and the sort of intimacy that comes with knowing the other inside and out. He is incredibly open. He’ll tell you all about his brothers, his days on Kamino, the shenanigans of the 501st, the shit Fives drags him into (“drags,” you know better, he’s Fives’ ride or die). And you help him get to know himself — what foods he likes, music, hobbies outside the war. He delights in getting to know himself and you, slow or fast.
After Skako Minor: Echo has been through a lot. More than any clone you’ve met. And knowing that makes it easier for you because Echo will not open up easily. About his trauma or other things. Sure, he’ll regale you with stories of his ARC training, stupid shit the 501st managed the get themselves into, the time he caught General Skywalker and Senator Amidala making out in public. It’s only later, after getting to know you, that he begins to open up about himself. His trauma. Fives. And it’s a huge milestone in your relationship, and almost as meaningful and indicative of his trust as physical touch.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Before the Citadel: Compared to his brothers, Echo has the patience of a saint. His annoyance is long-suffering, his frustration guilt-rendering, and his anger is righteous. Very few things push Echo into a strong emotional reaction. He’s a soldier trained to compartmentalize, and it shows in how he deals with his drunk brothers and terrible battles. And he’s completely patient with you, always. In all aspects of your relationship. Except maybe telling you to hurry up with the waffles because he’s hungry. One of the only things that really gets him going is defying direct orders lol, and even then, he’ll just grump and follow along behind Fives.
After Skako Minor: Again, compared to his brothers, Echo has the patience of a saint. The only one who can beat him is Crosshair, and sometimes, Crosshair is impatient just to be a little shit. He is level-headed, logical, hard to rile, even when the rest of the Batch are being ridiculous and obnoxious. Similarly to before the Citadel, one of the only things that really riles him up is defying orders, but the Batch rarely gets such strict supervision. Instead, his anger is only truly provoked by Separatists and slavery. Otherwise, Echo is endlessly patient. In fact, the other Batchers even have a little betting pool going on on who can ruffle Echo the most — Tech is in the lead.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Before the Citadel: This man remembers everything about you. Your favorite flowers, your name day, your favorite colors, your favorite season, what foods you like, your dream vacation, he even has facts memorized about your extended family. He just adores you and takes pride in knowing you inside and out.
After Skako Minor: Similarly to before, Echo remembers almost everything about you. And after the modifications made to his brain, it’s almost impossible for him to forget. And he doesn’t want to. He loves you, and knowing you and your likes and dislikes and everything in between is a privilege and honor for him.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Before the Citadel: To be completely honest, his favorite moment in your relationship was probably the moment he met you. Because of that spark, right there at the beginning. You, your beauty, your smile, your laughter, your presence, just everything about you. He lowkey fell in love with you right from the start, and he will never forget that moment.
After Skako Minor: Echo cherishes that moment in your relationship, before you were together, when he realized, either by your own confession or him simply putting the pieces together, how you felt. Because you felt that way about him. Not Hunter or Tech. Or Crosshair, or Wrecker, or anyone else. You felt that way about him. And of course he’d dreamed of this moment, but he’d never thought it would become reality. But now it is, and this man is going to never let you go now. You’re his. And everyone is going to know it by the end of the day.
S = Security? (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Before the Citadel: Echo’s not really able to be with you all the time, so he actually values independence and competency in a partner. He won’t always be around to protect you, so knowing you can take care of yourself actually brings comfort to him. And as said before, Echo’s not really prone to jealousy either, but he will definitely tell a pushy guy to back off at the bar. But he trusts you. He does, however, like others knowing you are taken, you are his. He will wrap his arm around you in a not-so-subtle way of telling others to back off. And he likes it because it lets others know he is also taken.
After Skako Minor: This man not only deserves to be protected, but should be taken care of. Please care for him. Please fuss at him for not getting enough sleep, or gripe that his armor needs repairs because one more dent could result in shattered plastoid. Echo absolutely melts with the affection, and he’ll no doubt return it. As said earlier, he’s still not really prone to jealousy. But still, he enjoys putting his arm around you, or blatantly making out with you in public. Because he wants everyone to know you are his, and he is yours. You are one of the few things in the entire galaxy Echo can claim for himself. And for a man who has lost almost everything, that means everything. So he is protective, and quietly possessive. And you are happy to let him be so.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Before the Citadel: This man can be so achingly romantic it’s heartwarming. Each date is well-thought out, after about two months of panicked brainstorming sessions with Fives that you will never know anything about (you totally know, because Fives tells you each time it happens, little shit). He will 100% bring you flowers for your two month anniversary (or send you a holo-message if he’s deployed), and then take a weekend of leave to celebrate your six-month anniversary on a little romantic holiday with you. He doesn’t really try to out-do himself with every date, but he genuinely likes to put effort into every outing with you. Even if he’s just helping you shop for groceries.
After Skako Minor: Echo still puts effort into every outing with you. He wants to be present, emotionally and physically and in every way he can. He doesn’t do much for anniversaries anymore, because his lifestyle doesn’t really allow for it. And he’s not as likely to take you out on a spontaneous date anymore. But he still puts so much effort into every interaction with you. He’ll accompany you on a supply run, help you with chores, shower you with physical affection. And he’ll let you drag him out if you want, but he is okay with any time spent with you, whether on a date or simply spending a night in together.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Before the Citadel: Echo has the worst habit of mother-henning everyone except himself. He will deprive himself of sleep and proper food and stress relief for the sake of others, even if it’s detrimental to him and his health. It drives you nuts. He also has a terrible habit of bottling things up. You want him to confide in you, and he usually does, but sometimes, he’ll compartmentalize to the point of nightmares or pulling away from you. He always feels terrible afterwards, and will come to you. But it takes a while for him to realize he can talk to you about anything. Anything.
After Skako Minor: If he compartmentalized before, it’s nothing compared to after Skako Minor. Sometimes Echo feels so alone in his new squad. He doesn’t want to burden them with his trauma, and every time he hears them make snide jokes or jabs about “regs”, he just shuts down even more. And he still has the habit of not taking proper care of himself. Not sleeping. Not eating properly. Not taking the time to decompress when he can. Refusing help when offered. He even neglects to properly care for his prostheses at first, because he hates them so much. Sometimes you’ll have to force him to take breaks or get to sleep. Or force him to sit down and clean and oil his joints because dammit, Echo take better fucking care of yourself. Eventually, the both of you sitting down and taking care of his prostheses, doing your nighttime routines, and going to sleep simply becomes part of your routine. And Echo learns to take better care of himself. Still doesn’t stop him from being a stubborn bastard sometimes.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Before the Citadel: It’s hard to be vain when there are millions of men who look just like you (though Fives, Jesse, and Kix manage somehow). Echo likes to keep himself presentable — no outlandish hairstyles or elaborate tattoos. Where he takes pride in his appearance is his armor. The handprint on his chest, the markings on his helmet, the rotary blaster cannon and dedication to Hevy on his thigh plate. The upkeep of his ARC armor, the symmetry of the blue paint. He likes the way he looks in his armor, and he does his best to maintain its upkeep.
After Skako Minor: Oof. His appearance is something Echo is not super comfortable with. He’s skinnier, paler, and more machine than man now. He has power and data ports all over his back, chest, and head, and he simply is not the man he used to be. Once he gets into a relationship with you, his self-esteem will improve some, but he will never again be totally confident in his appearance. Except for when he’s in his full kit. He still takes care in every aspect of his armor, and he wears the black, red, and skull of the Bad Batch with great pride. It makes him feel like normal again, like just another trooper fighting alongside his brothers. And he loves that feeling.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Before the Citadel: Uh, not really. Sure, Echo adores you. Fully and completely. But Echo is dedicated to his brothers and his unit and the Republic as well. You are something special in his life, for sure, and he cherishes every moment with you. But he doesn’t exactly feel incomplete without you. You’re simply another aspect of his life, one he is incredibly fortunate to have.
After Skako Minor: Absolutely. Echo has lost so much. More than nearly anyone. His body, his mind, his twin. And sometimes he feels so out of place amongst his new squad that he literally can’t stand it sometimes. Until he meets you, and suddenly, he feels whole again. Echo is protective of you, because to lose you would kill him. He’s not sure he would survive losing anyone else. Without you, he is incomplete.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them)
Before the Citadel: Despite his usual patience and level-headedness, Echo can absolutely be a little shit when it suits him. Mostly when he knows he can get away with it. Or when Fives is egging him on.
After Skako Minor: Being a little shit almost always suits Echo now, and he is more than happy to lean into it. Him and Crosshair sometimes make Hunter and Tech want to rip their hair out. Wrecker sits back and laughs.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
Before the Citadel: Someone who is obsessed with the sexual aspect of your relationship. Sure, Echo enjoys being physically intimate, but he values the emotional and romantic side of your relationship too much for it to be everything. If his partner is someone clingy and pushy with physical intimacy, he’s going to have a problem with it. Similarly, Echo needs someone who will understand he cannot be with them 24/7. You will not have a traditional relationship, not even close, and he needs a partner who will understand that.
After Skako Minor: Someone who is clingy. He lives a life where he cannot dedicate himself fully to or be with his partner all the time and if a potential partner has a problem with that then they are not for him. He needs someone who understands he still has chosen to dedicate himself to the war and the Republic. He also needs someone who will put up with (read: like) his brothers and squad. And someone who gives him his space. Echo has trauma that he is working through, and having a partner who will try to force him to share everything is something he wouldn’t like.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)
Before the Citadel: He sleeps with a little stuffed parrot, a poke at Echo’s penchant to repeat things (the parrot’s name is Susan and he wants you to respect his life choices). He also will fall asleep in literal seconds if someone starts playing with or stroking his hair.
After Skako Minor: This man will burrow into anything while he sleeps. You, the blankets, the pillow, the damn wall. He is often cold after Skako Minor and while he kind of gets used to it during the day, and has his armor and blacks on, he unconsciously burrows into things for warmth when he’s sleeping. It’s adorable. He also will still fall asleep in seconds if you stroke over his scalp.

Echo, Jesse and dogma - Yandere Headcanons
Echo (pre bad batch)
Self-Sacrifice type.
"If it's for you I wouldn't mind dying" He finds himself saying in your direction as you prepare for battle
He thinks back to the first time he thinks such devoted thoughts about you, you were just recently assigned to the 501st and already had a lot of attention from both his brothers and the generals for your amazing skill on the field. He knew the other reasons why his brothers really ravished you with attention was because of your mouth dropping beauty.
It were at times like this was he glad he was an ark trooper, it made him stand out against his brothers. Especially when he did things for you, need a rescue? He’s already shooting those clankers for you. Need a hand sorting supplies? Already has the list memorised for you.
There is literally nothing he won’t do for you, he finds most of his time is spent with you or trailing after you.
He wants you to be happy and if that means giving up most if not all of his free time and devoting it to you he is more than happy to make the sacrifice. You mean the world to him, he hopes you love him in the same way but if not that’s ok.
Jessie
Stalker type.
He had been watching you work for hours, it was now one of his favourite past times. He loved everything about you, from the sway in your hips to the way you tell your favourite joke. He just can’t get enough of you.
Although he has talked to you plenty of times on mission, he has come to the terrible realization that he has zero ideas how to not talk shop. It is his go-to and with you he wants it to be so much more.
So taking a page from the recon book he decides to best observe and learn from afar before any future engaging physically with you.
At first, he thought it was going to be easy, and to his credit it was, watching you from afar on his off days while you went about your business blissfully unaware. It did make him slightly annoyed that you didn’t notice him, but he brushed it off as his skills being just that good.
He loves seeing what you do on your off time, he takes note of everything. He’s taken several photos of you off duty, he used to hang them around his bunk but the perverted comments of some of his brothers and questioning from superiors put a quick stop to it.
There is only so much time they spend off mission and recently he has been finding his patrol getting closer to your station. He does like to compromise his duties but you just look so beautiful when you work.
After a good portion of the night was spent drinking and dancing with your friends you have finally made it back to your apartment, barely managing to enter the code you stubble in closing the door behind you. As you make your way towards your room you toss off your heels and any other restrictive clothing item before you collapse onto your bed.
Your body had just started to drift into sleep before it startled you awake like it could sense someone was there. Your tired eyes scanned the dark room looking for anything that was out of place. Coming up empty your eyes slowly close, blissfully unaware of the man who lingered near your closet.
Dogma
Worship type
His love and loyalty to you were far more than anything he had felt towards any commanding office, obviously. He prides himself in following his commander’s orders but with you, it just feels like something so much more.
Yes with other commanders he followed their orders to the T, but that was any clone troopers job to do. But any order you gave felt like words spoken by a deity, and he was going to serve you in any way he could.
And so began his newfound duty, anything you said he would consider the gospel and any order or request made he would be first in line to complete them. His brothers never understood his resolve in following orders, he would normally just ignore them but when they ever mention you, he has started small brawls in the barracks for their disrespect.
Hardcase was the first to mention his “loyalty” was his way of crushing on a higher ranking cutie. His remark left him a blushing mess but nevertheless, he defended your honour from his ridiculous assumption that simply because of your looks you weren’t worth following. (which wasn’t Hardcase’s point but made him laugh at his obsessed brother)
He found himself stay late to help out with anything that you had left outstanding, haven’t filed those reports? Don’t worry someone of your rank shouldn’t concern yourself with that. Need someone to get you some caf? He’s on it.
Want him to stand watch while you have a secret meeting with Arc trooper fives? Sure, I mean he wasn’t going to judge you and was sure as hell going to wasn’t going to allow anyone else to. He wasn’t meant to know anyway but knew your orders would be clear regardless.
After a busy day filling out paperwork with the help of clone trooper Dogma had finally finished. Dismissing him with the complement of a job well done, you could have sworn you could hear the trooper give a joyous “yes” from behind the closed door.

Satine Kryze, the New Mandalorians, and Fandom Misconception of Mandalorian Culture
If you’re a fan of Mandalorians and like to read fanfiction, you’ve probably read at some point that the New Mandalorians have committed ‘cultural genocide’. That Satine Kryze is a fanatic who is doing everything she can to destroy Mandalorian culture and that she has a watered down version of what it means to be a Mandalorian. And I’m here to tell you that this simply isn’t true.
This is going to be a long read. I will go into the history of Mandalore, what it means to be Mandalorian, as well as how it relates to our own history, so please, buckle in. Also, I will state that there are spoilers for The Clone Wars and season 2 of The Mandalorian.
Most of what we know about Mandalorians is from Karen Traviss and her Mandalorian books - she wrote many books about Boba Fett and even about a lot of clone troopers during and after the war. She’s also well known for starting the creation of Mando’a, the spoken Mandalorian language. However, Karen Traviss is also well known for hating the New Mandalorians and even the Jedi. She has (TW here) equated Jedi ‘apologists’ to slave owners and N*zis. She has been a big name for Star Wars for going into Mandalorian history and culture, however, she has a lot of discourse surrounding her and how she interacts with fans including the fact that she apparently doesn’t even read other Star Wars books that aren’t her own. A lot of people have seemed to have taken her rhetoric about Jedi and Mandalorians as fact, even though she is one author and has written from an extremely biased position of refusing to understand Jedi beliefs and the fact Palpatine, the Separatists, and the Senate were to blame for a lot of what happened in the clone wars. The Jedi were conscripted and refusing to understand that is what leads to ‘Jedi were slave owners’ rhetoric. However, that is a completely different conversation and not relevant to this post about Mandalore.
A lot of Mandalorian culture is from the Legends books. They have a long standing history of war, conquering, and allying themselves with the Sith. They started out as a group from Coruscant called the Taungs who were driven out by the native humans and became nomadic until conquering the planet they called Mandalore after their warlord. They continued their Mandalorian empire until the Sith wars and the Mandalorian wars, the latter of which was the time of Revan and the KOTOR games. I personally haven’t played KOTOR and don’t know enough about that point in Mandalorian history, but I do know that there were many wars, genocides, and violence. It was after the planet Mandalore was devastated by the Jedi Order and the Republic and turned into a barren desert that couldn’t sustain life, that the cultures began to shift and the major factions known as the True Mandalorians, Death Watch, and the New Mandalorians came to be.
(Mandalore after the Mandalorian Excision at the hands of the Republic (Legends) or their own civil wars (TCW). The Mandalorians used biodomes to sustain life on the planet.)
According to Wookiepedia from the Legends (ie, not canon) era, the Republic established a government, but the New Mandalorians were a break off of that. They didn’t follow the Republic nor did they love it, but they did believe in non-violence and peace. They followed the Kryze family who maintained the Duchy in Sundari on the planet Mandalore. Sundari was the capitol alongside Keldabe, the former being for the New Mandalorians while Keldabe was for the planet Mandalore. Many people had left the planet after the devastation to more lush planets or moons, such as Concord Dawn. Satine Kryze herself was from Kalevala, another toxic desert planet in the Mandalorian sector who relocated to Sundari. She was born to a warrior clan and grew up in the culture, but wished to move past that for peace. There was another person from Kalevala who maintained the royalty and also became a senator for the Republic, but he mostly represented the planet itself.
Again, a lot of this history and the ‘New Mandalorians stemming from the Republic installed government’ is from Legends; some of which Karen Traviss wrote, some of which is written from Boba Fett’s perspective (for example, calling the New Mandalorians ‘Faithless’ was from The Bounty Hunter Code and written from the perspective of Boba Fett. This should be taken with a grain of salt from an unreliable narrator viewpoint.) The Clone Wars show, which is where the New Mandalorians first physically appeared, states that they formed after the civil war to rebuild Mandalore, without interference from the Republic. Any violent Mandalorians were exiled to Concordia except the Protectors who were sworn to protect the Concord Dawn system. How anti-Mandalorian can Satine truly be if the Protectors swore to also protect her and the New Mandalorians? Also, any Mandalorian was free to leave Concordia as ‘Old Mandalorians’, but they had no desire for revenge because there was no reason to do so. They were free to maintain their beliefs and practices as long as it wasn’t on the planet Mandalore where the New Mandalorians kept their main city.
There’s a severe misconception as to what it means to be Mandalorian. I’ve heard arguments that you must follow the Resol’nare, the Six Actions, in order to be Mandalorian. However, I argue that there are many ways to be Mandalorian, that it’s a difference with species/race/ethnicity, religion, and culture. You can be born into Mandalorian space and be Mandalorian. You can follow a specific culture or creed and be Mandalorian. You can be adopted by a Mandalorian and raised by then and be Mandalorian. Just as there’s no one way to be a certain ethnicity or race in our world, there’s no one true way to be a Mandalorian. Jango Fett was born on Concord Dawn, in Mandalorian space. His parents were farmers. Even if he never was adopted by Jaster Mereel and became the Mand’alor of the True Mandalorians, he still would’ve been Mandalorian, just like his family. We’ve all heard the phrase ‘no true Scotsman’ and I believe it applies to Mandalorians as well.
However, let’s go with the argument that the Resol’nare makes someone a Mandalorian. The argument is that Satine Kryze doesn’t follow this and that is what makes her an agent of cultural genocide. The Resol’nare states:
Education and armor, self-defense, our tribe, our language, our leader.
Reminder that the Resol’nare was created by Karen Traviss, who we spoke about earlier. Also, the Wookiepedia Legends page for the New Mandalorians states that they’ve broken from the Resol’nare (again, thank you Traviss), but it’s more that they don’t follow a Mand’alor, rather than none of the actions. Let’s break this down and see how Satine Kryze does follow the Resol’nare.
The first one is easy: Education. In one of the episodes of The Clone Wars, it focused on the school in Sundari:
Satine’s own nephew, Korkie Kryze, attended and the main focus was to raise new leaders for Mandalore. The entire episode revolved around the students and Ahsoka Tano uncovering a corruption plot to destabilise the New Mandalorians by Almec, who later joined forces with Death Watch. Also, one of the forefronts of the New Mandalorians is technological advancement. They put their studies and trade into engineering and technology as well as transportation (Legends, established by Traviss).
The second, armour. This is a sticking point for a lot of anti-New Mandalorian fans who believe that Satine Kryze makes Mandalorians give up their armour.
This is a picture of Satine Kryze, Prime Minister Almec, as well as Korkie Kryze in the background. Look at the two people in the middle. See what they’re wearing? These are Mandalorian Royal Guards and they wear armour. New Mandalorians literally had a police unit called the Mandalorian Guards who wore armour, so this is kind of a moot point, showing fanon they are wrong about this. A lot of the Royal Guards were made from the afore mentioned Mandalorian Protectors.
Just because many New Mandalorians chose not to wear armour, doesn’t mean they were not allowed to wear it. One could try and argue that only the police and guards are allowed to wear armour, but the fact of the matter is: there’s still armour for the New Mandalorians. Also, interesting note but all the cadets from The Academy had the Iron Heart, which is a symbol more commonly seen on Mandalorian armour. I think it’s safe to say that is an easy adaption of the culture.
Also in that vein is the ‘self defence’ idea. There’s a lot of belief that the New Mandalorians have no means of defending themselves, that they shun every form of violence. As I’ve just shown, that’s clearly false. They use batons, stun guns, and even hand to hand combat in order to defend themselves. The Royal Guard used force staffs in order to deflect blaster fire, very similar to how the Jedi use their sabers. Even Satine Kryze has used non-lethal weapons of her own:
In the episode mentioned before, The Academy, it is shown that you don’t need guns or lightsabers to defeat your enemies and protect others. Ahsoka didn’t have her lightsaber and yet her and the cadets (including Korkie Kryze) managed to save Satine and uncover the criminal black market on Mandalore. People like to say that New Mandalorians’ creed of ‘no lethal weapons’ means they’re defenceless or ‘erasing culture’, but we’ll get into why this is a misconception with even deeper concerns later.
‘Our tribe’ is easy. The New Mandalorians follow a specific creed of non-violence and they follow that in deference to Satine Kryze, who we can even claim is ‘our leader’ as well. Each creed follows their own leader: the True Mandalorians followed Jaster Mereel and later Jango Fett, Death Watch followed Tor and Pre Vizsla, and the New Mandalorians followed Satine Kryze. All three can claim tribe and leader.
As for ‘our language’, as mentioned, Karen Traviss had originated the spoken language. Mando’a is rarely spoken in the animated series and is more shown in writing. The written language has been sparked once more by season 2 of The Mandalorian. A lot of fanon claims that Satine Kryze erases the language of Mandalore and forces Mandalorians to stop reading or speaking it, a very common cultural genocide against indigenous people. However, this is also false. It’s shown that there’s written forms in several of The Clone Wars episodes, and Satine Kryze herself even speaks it to a Death Watch bomber, click this link for proof and the translations. The written form was actually made by Philip Metschan when asked by George Lucas for Jango Fett, thus there was very little translation into actual Mando’a and why it’s a fan theory that there’s different dialects of it.
(New Mandalorian console from The Academy with written Mando’a.)
Thus, we can safely say that the New Mandalorians do follow a lot of Mandalorian culture that fans say they do not. I’ve also seen many fans say that ‘weapons is their religion’, quoting Din Djarin from The Mandalorian from season 1. However, in season 2, Din is questioning his beliefs as he meets more and more Mandalorians and finding he’s not one of the few remaining. It’s a fascinating study into diaspora and finding one’s culture, but it appears that some people are not also following along. Din has left behind many things he thought were truly Mandalorian - he’s left his people, he’s lost his home, and he’s even removed his helmet in front of others for the love of his child. After he met Bo-Katan Kryze (Satine’s sister who joined Death Watch), he’s been questioning his beliefs and what his place is in the galaxy. We’re finding he’s from a specific zealous sect of Mandalorians, but that doesn’t make him less Mandalorian. He was a foundling (we don’t know if he’s from Mandalorian space), and he’s taken in his own foundling. Mandalorian fans like to say that love of children makes a Mandalorian, so why must weapons and war make one and not love and peace? Mandalorians can love their children and tribe and still be Mandalorian. Weapons and war is what leads to cultural death and that is what the New Mandalorians are trying to prevent.
It’s a bit concerning that this fanon has been so pervasive throughout fandom. It may have originated with Karen Traviss or not, but it has been stated in many fanfic that Satine Kryze is committing ‘cultural genocide’ and has a ‘watered down version’ of Mandalorian culture. It’s so pervasive that people actually believe that Death Watch is better than the New Mandalorians. Death Watch came to be because of the True Mandalorians in Legends and the Mandalorian civil war in canon. In Legends and new canon (via The Mandalorian), Jaster Mereel made the Supercommando Codex, outlining a new structure for Mandalorians to also move past wars. He believed that Mandalorians should become bounty hunters and soldiers for hire instead of fighting amongst themselves. Tor Vizsla took offence to this and created Death Watch who believed in Mandalorian superiority. They wanted to go back to the Mandalorian empire and stoke war amongst the sector. Death Watch repeatedly worked to destabilise the New Mandalorian rule, to the point where Pre Vizsla, Tor Vizsla’s son, was the governor of Concordia, pretending to be an ally to Satine Kryze while he was secretly working with Dooku and the Separatists.
Death Watch committed many atrocities and acts of terrorism. They bombed civilians at a memorial for peace, and after Vizsla was ousted as governor of Concordia for being the Death Watch leader, one of his first acts was to enslave the women of the Ming Po tribe from the planet Carlac. When the men tried to save them and make Death Watch go away, Vizsla ordered the women dead and the town destroyed.
(Satine and Obi-wan witnessing Death Watch’s terrorist bombing.)
(The Ming Po people, who are obviously Asian coded.)
Their entire group of people were based on Asian cultures and it’s uncomfortable as an Asian to see people redeem or idolise Pre Vizsla and Death Watch. He committed mass murder genocide against them after enslaving and terrorising them.
(Carlac, where the Ming Po tribe lived. Note the building structures, the gate which resembles a Japanese torii, and the trees which resemble cherry blossom trees.)
Pre Vizsla and his fanaticism with Death Watch is what directly led to the destabilisation of Mandalore. He teamed with Darth Maul to lead a coup against Satine Kryze and an army to Sundari which led to Satine’s and Pre’s own death. Maul installed Almec as Prime Minister and Mandalore was under civil war once again. This continued until Rebels when Bo-Katan Kryze was given the dark saber by Sabine Wren and she became Mand’alor; unfortunately, the Empire destabilised Mandalore again and that’s what led to the events in The Mandalorian show. Fanon continuously believing that the New Mandalorians’ bids for peace led to cultural genocide is what leads to believing actual genocide is better. Even if people understand Death Watch is bad, there’s a false equivalence saying ‘New Mandalorians and Death Watch are just as bad’ which, again, we’ll get into later.
(Obi-Wan Kenobi arriving on Sundari to save Satine Kryze during the coup.)
Another claim against the cultural genocide argument is the fact that Satine and the New Mandalorians kept artwork of Mandalore’s violent history. They are in no way erasing their past, but instead keeping it as a reminder of what they need to move past.
Murals of Mandalorians killing Jedi and other people. The second is in the Sundari palace where Satine resides. People like to claim this is hypocritical, but it’s meant to show that they are not forgetting their past. That peace is what they must aim for lest they go back to their violent ways.
I have also seen people say that the New Mandalorians are ‘white supremacist’ and that has coloured their beliefs of them. I agree that I recoiled in disgust when I saw the shot of the lackluster New Mandalorians in their full white, blond hair, blue eyed glory. However, that is an animation choice and not the fault of the actual New Mandalorians. Most Death Watch people who are shown are also white with blond hair and blue eyes. In fact, Satine was a politician who often hosted several non-human species and negotiated with them.
(Scenes from TCW episode ‘The Voyage of Temptation’ with Satine Kryze and Obi-wan Kenobi with aliens and humans of various colour and shape. In this episode, Death Watch attacked the ship.)
You do know who did have a problem with aliens? Death Watch. From The Bounty Hunter’s Code, written in part by Jason Fry, there is this:
(Picture taken from the book by a user on discord. Thank you again!)
It states that Mandalorians in Death Watch must have ‘human faces’ and that non humans are ‘outsiders’ and ‘beast species’. Very reminiscent of anti-immigration views and general racism against black and brown people. And yet, there is a general belief that Death Watch is not racist because of the Wren family from Rebels where Sabine Wren is a clear person of colour. Hopefully, readers can tell what an allegory is at this point.
A problem I believe is that there’s a severe lack of understanding on what cultural genocide truly means. It’s defined as ‘acts and measures undertaken to destroy nations' or ethnic groups' culture through spiritual, national, and cultural destruction.’ As proven, Satine and the New Mandalorians have their own beliefs, but they do not destroy their history; instead they adapt them to what they believe the future is aiming for. They do not suppress nor destroy language, or artwork, or historical propaganda. They cannot be colonisers as they live on Mandalore themselves. They exile people, yes, but the people on Concordia had representation who Satine listened to and trusted before he was revealed to be a terrorist. The Mandalore system is big with multiple planets and habitable moons, and Old Mandalorians were free to build their lives anywhere in the system or galaxy, as long as it wasn’t on the planet Mandalore near the New Mandalorians.
Going back to the ‘Republic installed the New Mandalorians’ take, it is canon that Satine Kryze and the New Mandalorians resisted the Republic’s attempts to install a military occupation in Mandalorian space. Vizsla committed terrorist acts and attempted assassinations to murder Satine and he was backed by the CIS to create disorder on Mandalore. Joining the Republic at least peripherally had allowed the New Mandalorians to maintain trade and peace for their people, but when war came, they stuck to their beliefs and created a neutral system. In fact, the Republic cutting off trade, food, and supplies was essentially attempting to blackmail the New Mandalorians to participate in a war. Also, sending the Jedi isn’t a sign of Republic approval; even in The Phantom Menace, the Republic wouldn’t do anything for Naboo and Qui-gon Jinn and Obi-wan Kenobi were only sent as a favour to the then Chancellor Vallorum to investigate what was going on. The Jedi served the galaxy, even if their allegiance and oath was to the Republic, and that includes Mandalorian space.
(Qui-gon Jinn and Obi-wan Kenobi protecting Satine Kryze.)
I do understand why it’s awful to see a group of white people with the same model types to preach about peace and non-violence, especially when the only other known Mandalorian at the time is a brown man. However, that I will fully put on Dave Filoni’s shoulders as he wanted to make the Mandalorians closer to Nordic Vikings (something I believe was mentioned to him by Lucas). The Mandalorians may have been inspired and influenced by other cultures, but for The Clone Wars, it reminds me of and reflects the current state of USA. The USA has a long history of wars, genocide, and violence. It started with white colonists killing and enslaving indigenous people and black people and has continued to be the leader in military and police funding in the world. And yet, whenever people wish to progress past that (for example, enact gun safety laws, defund the military and the police, enact healthcare, remove racist symbols), there are people who claim that they’re trying to ‘take American history away’ or ‘take our rights away’, etc. It’s what has lead to the state the country is in now.
I find it highly disturbing that fandom is hating on New Mandalorians and claiming it’s cultural genocide. It equates to modern times and how people like to claim that ‘liberals’ are trying to ‘take America’s guns’ because we’re tired of war, police brutality, and school shootings. Because we want laws to remove guns from safe spaces and make it harder to obtain weapons. This isn’t cultural genocide. This is progression of society. On January 6th, 2021, we saw an attempted coup where right wingers stormed the American capitol, live fire was shot and a woman killed, where they were actively looking for Democratic congress people to hold them hostage and possibly kill them. I maintain that fiction reflects reality and this is true in this case. The New Mandalorians wish for peace and do not wish for violent weapons in their space and enact laws to do that. However, the galaxy is bigger than America and Old Mandalorians can go anywhere else in the galaxy or even the Mandalorian system. Several countries have enacted anti-gun laws and prevent weapons from being in the hands of violent people. We have labelled white supremacists as domestic terrorists and remove statues of names of slave owners and other awful historical people. I ask you this: how is what the New Mandalorians doing any different? If it’s because you believe the propaganda from Traviss (and Jason Fry, don’t think I don’t see you), then you need to reevaluate your source. It is not a bad thing to see violence and wish to move past that and instead focus your resources to innovation, humanitarian efforts, and, yes, pacifism.
I mentioned earlier that people like to equate Death Watch and the New Mandalorians. It’s generally like how people say ‘Antifa is just the same as fascism’. In fact, I saw a comment on a fic that generally says something similar:
Name removed and the fic will not be mentioned, but it equates the New Mandalorians and Death Watch to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her other POC congresspeople who wish to help people, and literal terrorists. Honestly, there’s a lot to unpack from this singular comment and I’m not sure I have the energy to do so. Death Watch isn’t like ‘Islamic’ terrorists. They’re like the white supremacist terrorists we see in the USA who planted bombs around various political buildings because they wanted violence against the Democratic party. This comment is just shitty victim blaming and promotion of violence. Pacifism isn’t ‘dangerous’. It isn’t ‘suicide’. It’s an ideal we should actively strive for.
I’m tired of seeing writers and fans say that the New Mandalorians commit cultural genocide. I’m tired of the misunderstanding and the attack on pacifism and the refusal to believe that peace is an option. It may not be feasible in the universe of Star Wars, but in that case, it’s not feasible for the USA and our own long history of war and we might as well give up. I ask that you at least do some research on the New Mandalorians before writing them and if you refuse to do so, then at least tag your fic as AUs and not actual canon fact. It’s the same with the Jedi and the propaganda that is passed along for them; you’re believing anti-New Mandalorian authors who aren’t accepted as canon. And for fuck’s sake, every time you praise Death Watch and say that they’re good, or that Pre Vizsla is an alright guy and redeemable, or that Obi-wan Kenobi of all people think that Mandalorians are better off being warmongers, then you’re wasting my time and helping spread bad (and, yes, racist) takes.
EDIT: Since this is still going around, I’m going to add that 1) there are very prominent Maori pacifist groups that are still being oppressed. The Mandos have a lot of Maori influence because of Temuera Morrison and it’s great that he’s bringing his culture to Star Wars, but the greater Mandalorian cultures are *not* based on them. Whether it’s TCW or Karen Traviss, none of the writers had the authority to make Mandos Maori (and Traviss very obviously fetishised them). 2) People keep claiming ‘pacifism is something governments can claim to oppress others!’ and yeah, it can be an excuse, but very often it’s an authoritarian government, *not* a pacifistic government. Do you know what happens to actual pacifistic governments? Groups? They get attacked and genocided. It’s literally what happened to the New Mandos in TCW. They were attacked and killed and their way of life was obliterated thanks to Death Watch and Maul. They weren’t forcing their way of life on the greater Mandalorian population and honestly? Stop acting like *pacifism is bad*. There are legit pacifists out there and people have *constantly* been actively against war all throughout history and they’ve been *murdered* for it. Recall what happened to Vietnam War protestors??? Recall the smear campaign against France for not getting involved in the Iraqi War??? The New Mandos can reflect any point of history in the real world. Acting otherwise is *your problem*. Can pacifism be used poorly? Yes, mostly when you’re ignoring the plights of others around you in the name of pacifism. Are the New Mandos an actual good example of pacifism? No, and no one would claim it would be and I blame that solely on the shit writing of TCW where war is treated like a game half the time. But acting like pacifism as a whole or pacifistic governments or ideals is bad is fucked up and wildly dismissive of the large number of real pacifists.

In The Eye Of The Beholder
Chapter 1
Next →
Pairing: Commander Wolffe x reader
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: brief description and mildly graphic medical jargon about losing an eye and having a prosthetic implant placed
Summary: Shortly after the events of the Battle of Khorm, the Kaminoans don’t see the value in moving forward with treatment for Commander Wolffe... you, the GAR doctor on the Coruscant disagree
“I don’t remember asking for your goddamn opinion ambassador!” you shout up at the pale long necked Kaminoan, who’s been passively berating you in an attempt to get your patient taken off life support. Your communicator goes off loudly, and you feel no shame in looking at it instead of listening to the Kaminoan ambassadors retort.
“I’m sorry ambassador, but this discussion is over. The requisition for the cybernetic prosthesis has gone through and whether you like it or not, I am going to give that man a fighting chance. He didn’t lay down his life to be tossed out with the garbage. Now get out of my med bay,” your turn on your heel, and begin speaking into your comlink to arrange for the surgery to get underway immediately.
The procedure took nine grueling hours to fully clear out the wound, put in the prosthetic eye and reconstruct the damage to the soldier's facial structure. He stood a good chance of making a full recovery if the cybernetic innervations healed correctly. Now it was just a matter of letting him rest and wake up in his own time.
Most clone troopers in the GAR hospital didn’t get many visitors, most didn’t stay long enough to need visitors though the ones that lived through their ordeals usually recovered on transports back to the front line. But this trooper had a frequent visitor, a Jedi.
“He must be a very good commander for you to check in on him so often,” you comment one afternoon, standing by the door. The tall Kel Dor turned to face you.
“He is. A dutiful, loyal, hardworking commander. But that is not why I come to see him,” he says
“Why then? Certainly a Jedi Master and a General in the Grand Army of the Republic has many duties and responsibilities to see to,” you approach the bed with your tray of fresh wound dressings for his eye.
“The same reason you advocated for him when the Kaminoans wanted to let him die. He is a person. An individual. He is a good man. And he is a member of my team,” he explains while you work to remove the bandages that keep the stitches and cybernetics clean.
“You care for him,” you say with a smile, applying a layer of bacta gel to the stitches with a cotton bud.
“Indeed. I care for him, and all of his brothers that serve under my command. I am not the only one who worries after his health,” The jedi steps around you, trying not to be in the way.
“Well that makes two of us. I don’t even know him, but I want him to live. And not just to keep serving the republic,” you finish applying the bacta gel and begin rewrapping his head with clean bandages.
“You have a good heart doctor, and better view of the troopers than most. I think he’ll like you when he has the chance to formally meet you,” the jedi says
“I should hope so, he’ll have to come back fairly regularly for check ups and case study updates. He’s the first living being with this particular model of prosthesis. If he doesn’t like me, it’ll be a very unpleasant couple months until the study is complete,” you’ve finished wrapping his head, but find you can’t stop looking at his handsome face. True you’ve seen thousands exactly like his before, but right now it’s as if you’ve never seen anyone like him.
“I’ll be the first to admit, he’s stubborn and a bit gruff. But he’s not so bad once you get to know him, he’s fiercely protective and hates to feel weak. This will be a difficult recovery for him, but I have confidence in him. And in you doctor,” you tear your gaze away from the commander and smile at the jedi.
“Thank you master jedi,” you give him a small bow of your head out of respect.
“Plo,” he says “No need for such formalities,” you wonder briefly if he is smiling beneath his deoxygenator, it certainly sounds like it.
“And him? They don’t include their chosen names in their identification codes, just CC and CT numbers. I doubt he goes by his CC number day to day,” you pack away your equipment, unfortunately other patients are waiting, as much as you would love to stay and chat with the kind jedi master. Plo tracks your movements, he senses your rising anxieties about having to leave and attend to other matters in the hospital. Just as you’re about to leave without getting an answer, Plo speaks up.
“His name is Wolffe”
—
Much to your delight, Commander Wolffe does wake up within a few days. And he’s every bit the stubborn, defensive, and unwilling patient Master Plo promised he would be. He keeps getting up and trying to leave despite obviously being in immense physical pain, he’s already ripped his stitches once, and he’s down right refusing to let you get near him to check the wound and change the dressing.
“Commander Wolffe I am at my wits end here. I’m going to step out to allow you a visitor, and when I come back you will be laying on that bed, I am changing those dressings, you are taking your medication. Is that that clear?” You bark at him. He glares at you with his one amber eye but does not respond.
You push the door open and see Master Plo waiting on the other side.
“He’s all yours General, talk some sense into him if you can,” you toss the comment over your shoulder as you head down to the nurses station for a cup of water.
Master Plo enters the patient room, and finds Wolffe pacing against the far wall. His head snaps up, and he visibly struggles to bring the newcomer into his field of vision.
“General!” Wolffe says in surprise, straightening his posture
“Wolffe, your doctor tells me you’re refusing care,” Plo closes the door behind him.
“I should be out there,” Wolffe growls “Kriff… I shouldn’t even be alive right now. They’re keeping me alive to keep me in a box!”
Plo senses that there is something more, something he’s holding back, beyond wanting to be released from med bay.
“You know better than most that withholding the truth can be the determining factor between life and death,” Master Plo says carefully, approaching Wolffe with slow movements “but this truth is one that needs to be shared,”
Wolffe’s shoulders drop and what little color he’s managed to regain drains from his face. His knees give out and he sinks down onto the floor, tears stain both his good cheek and the bandage. Master Plo moves to join him on the floor.
“Good soldiers don’t lay around in hospital beds and weep over superficial pain,” Wolffe says weakly “Soldiers that don’t recover quickly… get decommissioned and sent back to Kamino in a box,”
“You are already recovering quickly, and your doctor can give you something for the pain so you can heal faster,” Plo says cooly “You are not being sent back to Kamino. Your doctor made sure of that,”
“What?” Wolffe was surprised to hear this, up to this point all of his conscious interactions with you had been rather gruff and none too friendly, he can’t imagine why you weren’t doing everything in your power to get him out of your hospital and out of your way.
“A Kaminoan ambassador came to assess treatment at this hospital and saw your condition, they incorrectly assumed that it would be more beneficial to cease all treatment. Your doctor, shall we say, violently disagreed,”
“Violently sir?”
“They were furious she went ahead with the surgery. Believe me, if someone had recorded it on a holo I would show it to you. It was quite the spectacle,” Master Plo laughs “She was adamant that you deserved a fighting chance,”
—
Later that evening after General Plo had left, you returned to Wolffe’s room with a tray of equipment to change his dressings, and medicine to help with the pain.
“Commander Wolffe if I come into this room and you throw something or scream at me, I will have you physically restrained,” you say sharply before fully entering the room. He’s sitting on the bed facing away from the door.
“I won’t yell,” he replies quietly without turning around, his tone is decidedly gentler than before. Whatever the General said to him must have done the trick. You approach him cautiously, rounding the end of his bed so you could get a good look at him. His face is set in a harsh grimace.
“Are you in pain?” You ask. He nods but doesn’t reply. “I am going to change those dressings and we’re gonna test out that new eye. I think with a good dose of anti inflammatory medication, and some intraocular movement you’ll feel better,”
He nods again, you drag a chair over and sit in front of him, he doesn’t bat your hand away when you move to unwrap his bandages. The silvery white cybernetic eye under the protective padding is downcast to match its whiskey gold twin. The stitches are finally healing up with the help of the bacta gel.
“Good news Commander I think you’re healed enough you won’t need a fresh bandage. Now let’s see how well this prosthesis works. Can you look at my nose?” You remove a penlight from your pocket and shine it in each of his eyes.
You run through a series of tests asking him to stare straight ahead at you, follow the light with his eyes, and tell you when he can or can’t see you moving the end of the pen out of his vision. Pressure and tightness on his left side subsides he continues moving his eye around.
“Your reactions look normal, how does it feel?” you click off your penlight and tuck it away.
“Hurts a bit less,” he quietly admits “I’m sorry about before,”
His change in demeanor is a surprise but a welcome one, far better than him trying to escape or aggressively get away from you. You give him a small cup with the anti inflammatory medicine in it, and second small cup with water. He takes the pills without complaint. You remain seated in front of him, to maintain this comfortable closeness.
“It’s okay. I know this isn’t easy,” you give him a sympathetic look.
“General Plo mentioned that you advocated for me, I would be dead if it wasn’t for you…” he falters “thank you,”
That familiar feeling you had before when he was still on life support crept back up on you. Heartbreak for how much he and his brothers have to sacrifice, longing to show him the appreciation he deserves, and something else, something you can’t place.
“This war won’t last forever. You deserve the chance to live in the freedom and peace you fight so hard to protect,”
He’s a bit stunned. Sure he’s heard a handful of politicians advocating for clone rights, but he’s never heard anyone say something like this. He can tell your words are genuine and heartfelt.
“Is there any way I can repay you, or thank you for sticking your neck out for me?” He asks “It takes guts to stand up to those soulless bastards,”
“Well ah… don’t thank me too fast. I know you didn’t exactly sign up for this but your prosthetic is a brand new top of the line prototype. By default you’re a participant in the longitudinal study of its effectiveness,” you admit sheepishly. He raises an eyebrow and peers at you. “On the positive side, you’ll get a bit more shore leave to come in for appointments,”
“Well that’s certainly nothing to complain about. My offer still stands, can I take you out as a thank you?”
You smile warmly and quirk up a brow to match him. “Take me out? Hm… I get off in a couple hours and you’re being discharged from med bay today, I’m game if you give me a chance to run home and ditch my scrubs,”
“It’s a deal,”

Small Moments
Pairing: Wrecker x Female Reader
Rating: G
Word Count:2,220
Summary: You and the squad have a little bit of downtime before completing a job from Cid. This time allow you to think ahead for the future of the squad, and of Omega.
AN: I hope you all enjoy! This is my first bit of writing in a long time so we’re keeping it pretty simple. xx
Gif credits to the owner <3
The noise was no stranger to you, the deep and seemingly endless drumming above your head. An icy coolness slips into your skin underneath your clothes, your eyes slipping shut at the sensation. While for the most part you enjoy your time on the ship with your crew and it feels just as much of a home as you could ask for, it did have its drawbacks. The closest thing to a simple rainfall you got to experience while cruising through space were meteor showers, and landing in the middle of one of those was not the most relaxing experience. You feel a small, hand wrap itself into your own, giving it a small squeeze. Your eyes cast down and you smile at the sweet brown eyes peering up at you from beneath wet, blonde curls. Omega has her hood over her head, holding down the side with her opposite hand against the wind.
“I sort of missed the rain (y/n).” She says, looking up at the sky and smiling, the raindrops sprinkling down on the two of you. You lift your head back up, sticking out your tongue. Omega looks at you, her brow furrowed. “What are you doing?”
“Catching raindrops. You can do it with snowflakes too. We used to do it on my home planet when I was small.” The tiny clone follows your actions, laughing as she lets go of your hand and makes a show of running around you, catching the water droplets from above.
You were thankful that for both the sake of you and the squad, and for Omega herself, that she had taken the business of being a part of the team so seriously. The young one dove into everything that was ever handed to her, from Hunter’s hand to hand combat routines, to Tech and Echo’s near constant technological learning. She was a fighter, and a determined one at that.
Your heart was heavy at times however, thinking about how she was still a child. She should be able to enjoy the things children enjoy. The sweet, small things that with adulthood and the burdens of growing up, we all tended to forget and appreciate. You took it upon yourself to make your training for Omega to be how enjoy things she could not before, to make her feel like she wasn’t restricted, or stripped of her curiosity. You encouraged it.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, my data shows that the atmosphere on this planet coupled with the local vegetation means excessive consumption of precipitation could lead to harmful side effects.” Tech says as he walks past, guiding his scanner around you as he too gets off the ship. You purse your lips and look down at your small companion once more, chuckling.
“Bit of rain won’t hurt you.” Hunter says as he comes up behind the two of you, handing Omega her small backpack you had found for her at a market during your last job for Cid. You wanted her to have something of her own and found some amenities to put in it as well. Some new fresh clothes, and a small toolkit among other things, including her beloved clone trooper doll. “We should get inside though. Cid said we can stay at her camp here before we continue to the other side of the planet for the exchange tomorrow. We can’t proceed until late morning at least. Best to get some rest while we can.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice Sarge.” Wrecker yells from the belly of the ship. You hear his footsteps as he barrels down the gangway and feel him join you both. He grabs your own pack from your shoulder and puts it over his own, its size shrinking against his broad form. “You and the kid take your time, beautiful. I can take our stuff inside.”
“Wreck I can take that, it’s just a few things.” You laugh, grabbing for your pack. He dodges your efforts and keeps walking forward, turning to wink at you as he follows his brothers. You huff out another laugh and lead Omega towards the cleared path in the forest. “Well, I guess I’ll just escort you then my lady. I’ll get you settled in in Hunter’s room before I join them so we can go over the mission details for tomorrow.”
“Can’t I be there? I want to know what’s going on tomorrow too!” Omega asks, her shoulders slumping down a moment under her cloak. You squeeze her hand and nod.
“Alright Omega, you can come with me. We’ll drop your pack off and then find our way. Just be weary. I’m not sure what kind of mission this will be or what Hunter’s plans for you are. This may be one you need to sit out, for all I know the both of us might be sticking behind. You’re a part of the squad so I see no issue of you being there. Just be ready to play the part Hunter and the others have planned.” You tell her. Thankfully, Hunter had begun to allow her a little more freedom with her involvement in missions. There were still runs Cid sent you on however that weren’t worth the risk.
“I promise I will!” She says, saluting you. You look ahead as a clearing broke out of the path and you see a glassed-in observatory style station come into view. It looked like a two-story home, perfectly rectangular in shape. The walls were made completely of glass, save for the metal framing around the edges and planforms, holding the building above the ground. You imagined the views of the forest were breathtaking from inside. You had to give it to her, Cid had taste.
“(y/n)? Can I ask just one question before we go in?”
“Go on Omega, I’m listening.” You answer, still looking towards your quarters for the night.
“What are snowflakes?” ***** You sigh as you enter the code to your keypad Wrecker directly behind you as you all retired to your rooms after the mission briefing. Omega left in happy spirits with Hunter as he had a part for her to play in this mission, the situation being a simple drop-off of supplies with payment, nothing too messy. Since Omega had paid off all your debt with Cid, you were able to stick to more low-profile jobs while you figured out a new plan regarding Omega’s safety and the unsettling end of the war.
“The kid seemed happy that she has a job to do with us. I like when she’s able to come out in the field with us.” Wrecker says, starting to take off his uniform. You cross your arms over your chest, still a little chilled from the rain as you look out. You were right before, as the whole building, including your room, was surrounded by windows. Thick, one-way, bulletproof windows, as Tech made sure to point out, given who owned it. It really was a beautiful sight.
The view made it easy to look out into the forest, the leaves on the branches, bright from the rain and crisp air. The foliage swayed back and forth with the wind, creating the most soothing hushing sound, mother natures lullaby. Accompanied of course by what had to be some type of owls, their deep calls coming from their nests in the surrounding trees. Open space had a soothing effect to most. It’s infinite darkness with specks of light, but to you, it was far too quiet. No outside noises penetrated the thick hull of the Havoc Marauder, only the synthetic beeps and whirs of the engines going off in the night could soothe you in the deafening moments.
“I know that ain’t true, you smacked me in the face with your pillow the other night cause you said I was snorin’ too loudly.” Wrecker points out, lifting his chest piece over his head, his upper body now free of the extra weight. You hadn’t realized that you were thinking out loud, though you often did it around Wrecker. He was your partner, for a couple years now. Hunter, Crosshair, Tech, and Echo you trusted with your life. With Wrecker, you trusted him with your life and your heart. You take his chest piece from his hand and set it in the trunk he had carried in along with your bag. “
That is different!” You laugh, coming back to take the final pieces of his suit, leaving him just in his black thermal set. You lay the final piece into the trunk and sit on a chair that faces the windows. “This place reminds me of things I love. The birds, the trees, the smell of the rain. You can’t find that in space big guy. I’m glad we’re able to take Omega with us to these different planets and worlds. It’s important she knows about the world and everything in it. Good and bad. I just try my bests to let her see the good to remember during those bad times. She’s going to have to fight for a lot in her life, an unfair amount…”
“Hey, listen-“You feel Wrecker stand behind you, putting one hand on your shoulder and gesturing for your other one. You put your hand in his and bring the warm top side of his to your lips, kissing it gently. His hands dwarfed your own, as he did most parts of you. You were always safe when you were with him, and you knew if he wasn’t near, it wouldn’t take much to have him barreling towards you at any moment when you needed him. “We’re gonna look after Omega. We made it this far, I’ll stand in front of anyone that tries to hurt her… Or take her away.”
“I know you would Wreck, we all would. She just adores and admires you all.” You say, his fingers grazing your cheek as you speak. You were honest too. If your run in with the bounty hunters wasn’t enough, you knew in your heart that child was probably the most protected thing in the galaxy.
“She likes you a lot too ya know. She tells me all the time.”
“Does she?” You smile to yourself. The word ‘love’ was seldom used around the ship, usually only regarding Mantell mix by a select few. The feeling was always present of course, the brothers all loved each other, and as the time went on, it extended to both yourself and Omega as well. Wrecker had told you after he told you he loved you for the first time in your relationship, that it was the first time he had said it to someone in such a way.
“She does. She thinks your beautiful, and smart and kind. I like her, she’s a smart kid.” Wrecker lets go of your hand and comes around to the front of your chair. You barely have a moment to look up before he picks you up into his arms like you were nothing, carrying you to the plush bed that was made up in the middle of the room. He sets you down gently and crawls into bed with you.
“Cause I think you’re beautiful, kind, and smart too.”
You laugh and prop yourself up a little more as Wrecker settles beside you, who is also sitting up to look at you. You extend your hand and cradle his face in your hand, your thumb brushing along his cheekbone. Before you can reply you feel a yawn manifest in your throat before it escapes, your hand covering your mouth as you try and keep your gaze on your favourite trooper.
“Am I that boring?” He chuckles. You swing your legs back over the edge of the bed, starting to unhook your boots. Wrecker gets up from the bed again and walks to your pack, grabbing your sleep pants from it.
“No Wreck of course not. I’m sorry, I just feel really tired suddenly.” You reply, pulling off your boots and setting them beside the bed, keeping them close just in case. You feel his hands slip under your shirt and you let him lift the fabric from your body, leaving you in just a worn sports bra. As you wiggle out of your tactical pants, he hands you the black sweatpants and you slip them on, relishing in the feel of the soft fabric. You never seem to realize how tired your body is until you properly stop for a moment.
“It’s okay baby, it’s been a while since we had a break. Even when we do, you’re always doing something for us, or for Omega.” He says, joining you in bed again. You lay back on his chest, relaxing into him as you look out the array of windows and out into the wilderness around you. You wished you had time to explore more, and to enjoy your time there, but you could already feel sleep tugging you down, not being helped by Wrecker’s fingers grazing up and down you arm.
“I know- but I still wish we had some extra time. We haven’t had a lot of time together either, just the two of us. I’m sorry I’m wasting it.” You sigh, fingers dancing over his chest.
“Don’t worry (y/n).” Wrecker takes his arm around you and rolls you onto his chest, almost laying you almost on top of him, kissing that spot on your neck that makes your heart thrum. “There’s always the morning. You know how much I like breakfast.”

Rating: 18+
Word Count: 3.6k
Warnings: mentions of lust? is that a warning? otherwise, nothing yet ;)
chapter summary: Renna (you), an intern who spent the entirety of her internship thus far filing paperwork in the archives of Tipoca City’s medical wing, finally is able to work with a real patient - that patient just so happens to be Fives.
note: Renna will basically be taking the place of AZI-3 in the Conspiracy arc. A lot of the dialogue I wrote is from the episode, and of course I added more to dig deeper into Renna and Fives as characters. When this idea came in my head I was only planning on writing it as a oneshot. As I starting writing this, however, I realized there was so much more that could be done with it since this arc is both a good one and a sad one. If you’re ready to go on this journey with me, then keep going under the cut! <3 Also, I wanted to add that there will be POV changes in this chapter. I don’t know if I’ll stick with that going forward, but we’ll see.
* tbh special thanks to @bvcketfvcker for coming up with the series title and being da Best™
***
The archives of the medical wing in Tipoca City, the capital of the watery planet Kamino, were always so cold and lonely. Every single day of your internship thus far has included you being nearly drowned in paperwork, no real field experience to show for it.
You’ve been on Kamino for your medical internship for what, close to six months now? You were still stuck doing paperwork. Maybe at the six month mark you’d be moved up to sterilizing all the medical equipment, which would seem terrible to anyone else, but at least you’d be in proximity to anything remotely “medical”. You were longing to get your hands dirty, to start real field experience, to learn how to heal. You wanted to help people, to help anyone in need. You wanted to learn the practices for saving someone’s life. Everything you wanted, you could not get if you were stuck in the archives with paperwork as your only companion.
You decided within your first month that you would not let the paperwork and lack of real purpose get to you. So, you made your situation better by wearing - to the best of your ability - a positive attitude. On the day that marked the end of your first month here, the Kaminoans told you that music can be played in the archives as long as it’s not too loud, so you brought in a small radio the very next day. The start of your second month was a little better than the day before. You hummed to the music playing on the radio as you tried to make a game out of filing the paperwork. Turns out, not even a simple game could be made out of something so boring and tedious as filing paperwork.
You lost count of the days you’ve been in Tipoca City, within the archives shelled by the stilted dome structures, after your second month. Every day was exactly the same; you filed and shredded paperwork, organized reports, and finished filling out medical reports that the Kaminoan doctors didn't even want to bother with. Every day you woke up early, headed to the archives, and spent your entire day there in solitude until it was time to head back to your quarters for the night. Lunch was always dropped off to you by a couple of guards from the Kamino Security Team. The guards were always in full grey and white armor but you already knew what they looked like; they were clones, and you’ve seen their face in every file. They were handsome, sure, but there were literally hundreds of thousands of them out there.
You were pretty sure you were coming up on month six of your monotonous internship. Waking up and getting ready was a routine ingrained in your bones. You were taking the regular route to the archives from your quarters when you were stopped by a couple Kaminoan doctors on the way. To your surprise, they asked you to follow them, which you were hoping translated to you not having to work in the archives anymore. Maybe month six was the lucky number.
You walked behind the tall and slender creatures through unfamiliar halls. You had no idea where you were following them to, but anywhere was better than where you were originally heading.
They kept walking, with you in tow, when you passed by the only Jedi you’ve ever really spoken to - Master Shaak Ti, a calm and collected Togruta who was known to have a soft spot for the clones here on Kamino. The Jedi nodded in greeting to the Kaminoans in front of you, then over at you. With no words spoken, you were now following the Jedi through the halls, still unsure of the destination.
Just around the corner, you saw two very decorated troopers coming towards you. They donned blue and white armor with a ton of other accessories. As they got closer, the one trooper removed his helmet and carried it at his side. This trooper had the usual dark brown hair and kept the common clone cut style. The way this clone walked with his helmet pressed to his hip had awoken something in you, though you couldn't put your finger on exactly what that something was.
“General Shaak Ti.” The other clone removed his helmet as he greeted the Jedi. He was blonde and sported a closely shaved cut; despite having the same face and body, the two clone troopers looked completely different. They were unlike any clones you’ve ever seen.
That’s when you noticed another trooper laying on a stretcher behind them; his hair was long enough to be worn in a bun, a tear drop was inked underneath one of his closed eyes. He was also unlike any clone you’ve ever seen - especially since he appeared to be unconscious, He was hooked up to oxygen, you also noticed, as two guards pushed his floating stretcher right by you and around the corner, out of sight once they went down the hall.
You realized how zoned out you were and quickly snapped back to reality - only for only a second, though - as you became transfixed on the clone in front of you on the right, the one with dark hair. You scanned his features a little more now that he was closer; he had a dark goatee that framed his chin and his right temple had the number “5″ inked on the skin. His armor was crazy different from the armor the guards here wore. He looked... good. Uh oh.
For just a brief moment, the “good looking” trooper’s eyes broke away from his conversation with the Jedi and met yours. Slightly embarrassed, you snapped your head forward and glued your eyes to the Kaminoan’s ankles in front of you.
Just as you started listening in on the conversation, the two clones, the Jedi General, and Dr. Nala Se broke away and turned the corner in the same direction they took the unconscious trooper.
Kriff. You missed the entire conversation. The Kaminoans started moving forward, and you assumed you were still supposed to follow them, so you did. You still had no clue where you were going, but you’ll get there eventually.
***
Fives’ POV
Fives walked to the left of Rex, a long-neck doctor in between them, while Tup’s unconscious body was guided by two Kamino guards behind them.
“You will have to say goodbye to your friend now.” The long-neck broke the silence. Fives was worried for his friend. No one, not even Kix, could figure out what was wrong with him. Why would Tup shoot and kill General Tiplar? Fives noticed Tup was acting somewhat strange right before it all happened, but didn’t think too much of it at the time, Now, he’s racking his brain, trying to understand what set Tup off. He’s a good soldier, a good man. He’d never do such a thing in his right mind.
It was suggested that Tup be sent to Tipoca City, to Kamino, back to his roots, for a better chance of figuring out what was wrong with him. Fives gladly accepted the offer to escort his friend there, and was overjoyed that Rex came along with them.
General Shaak Ti came into view, and the troopers came to a halt. Captain Rex greeted the General, and she turned her attention over to Fives.
“Fives, am I correct?” He nodded. Tup was being pushed from behind them and then around the corner in front of them, quickly going out of view. The General spoke again, her eyes glued on the unconscious trooper being led down the hall. “You’ve served with Tup?”
Fives was desperate to be by his friend’s side right now. “Yes.”
Then he saw you. You, a foreign species to Kamino. What were you doing here? It had been a while since Fives was last on Kamino, but he was sure there weren’t any others like you here before unless they were Jedi - but the only Jedi known to hang around Kamino was General Shaak Ti.
He had noticed you tailing the long-necks before you had even come entirely into view. Fives let his eyes flicker over to you as Tup was being taken away, only to have locked eyes with you for but a second. He noticed you blushed right before you snapped your head forward, obviously embarrassed that you’d been caught staring. General Shaak Ti’s voice broke Fives’ trance - didn’t even notice he was losing focus once he caught your eyes - and it was all over in less than five seconds.
“You must come with me.”
Fives quickly snapped his attention back to General Shaak Ti, “with... all due respect, General, I can’t just abandon him now.” The Jedi General smiled reassuringly, and turned to lead Fives and Rex down the hall in the same direction Tup was taken.
Fives knew where his undivided attention should be, and that was on Tup - his friend - his friend that for some reason just gunned down a Jedi in the heat of battle in the space station just outside of Ringo Vinda, only to come to with no memory of what he had done. Fives cursed himself for thinking of you when his friend was about to be strapped to an exam table, being poked and prodded like some kind of lab scurrier.
***
Renna’s POV
Dr. Nala Se, the Chief Medical Scientist on Kamino, approached you once you had gotten to the head medical lab and informed you that you’d be the one who would start procedures on a clone trooper who had potentially been exposed to a virus of some kind. You nodded, all too giddy as you gladly accepted the task.
You were escorted by two guards to where you’d be working with the patient. When the door whisked open, you slowly made your way into the quiet room, the door shutting quickly behind you. You glanced to the right, noticing the window that would normally allow you to see into the room next door was blacked out - put into the privacy setting. Strange.
“You?” The deep voice - a voice that sounded like honey in your ears - put a halt on your thoughts about the darkened window. You knew it was the voice of a clone; the only voices you ever heard were either the slow, drawn out words of the Kaminoans or the clones’. Of course a clone would be in that room, of course a clone would be the subject of your testing.
Who you didn’t expect to see was the clone trooper you saw in passing not even a half hour ago - the one with the dark goatee and number 5 tattooed on his temple - the one who made you blush when he caught you staring.
You felt yet another blush heat your cheeks before you even registered it was happening. What the hell were you blushing for? He’s a clone, and you’re here to take blood samples and body scans to make sure he’s okay. You knew you were staring at him like a fool, and for way too long. You shook your head slightly in an attempt to reorganize your thoughts.
“You ok, Miss... miss?” He stood up from his seating position on the cot, and cocked his head to the side with his arms folded across his chest. You nodded your head slowly.
“Renna,” you nearly whispered your name to him - the words almost came out choked - for some reason you had forgotten how to speak in Basic for a moment.
“Look, Miss Renna, I am not a threat. Neither is Tup.”
Your brow raised as you studied the clone’s expression. It was hard; his eyes were piercing and his brows were furrowed. Crossed arms flew to his sides, hands tightening into fists. No doubt he was feeling angry and confused.
“T- Tup?” Was that the name of CT-5385? “You’re referring to CT-5385?”
“Tup! The trooper in that room right there?” He pointed over to the darkened window, “He’s a good soldier, my friend, and he’s in the room next door getting - getting tortured by those long-necks.” A beat. “None of us clones go by numbers anymore, by the way.” You closed your eyes for just a moment, trying to think about what to say next. You inhaled deep through your nose, then slowly out through parted lips, watching as his expression went from angry to more... afraid? Worried?
“Trooper, I promise Tup is in good hands. I’ve been briefed on his- his condition... they - we - just want to find out what made him kill Jedi General Tiplar, that’s all. They’ve asked me to do a couple of procedures on you, take some notes, since you were close with Tup. Maybe we can find something in you that will help your friend.”
The trooper’s expression changed again, softening as his fists unclenched at his sides. Surely he had to understand the gravity of the situation; when you were briefed, it was mentioned that no one on Kamino had any idea why CT-53 - Tup - shot a Jedi General in cold blood, or why he keeps floating in and out of consciousness, murmuring things like “kill Jedi”. Clone trooper Tup seemed to have no memory of what he had done; and so far, no scans were showing anything wrong with him, though his health was deteriorating.
You walked over to the counter where the sterilized needles and scanners resided and started to prep the equipment, reading over notes to see what it is you needed and what you were supposed to be testing him for. Reading through the notes, you realized this trooper’s designation was ARC-5555, and the tattoo “5″ on his temple made sense now. It was actually kind of... cute.
It was silent for a couple minutes while you were getting everything ready when a loud, airy sigh coming from behind you made you turn around to face ARC-5555.
“The name’s Fives.”
***
Fives’ POV
Fives was getting more worried for Tup by the minute. His rising frustration didn’t help, either. General Shaak Ti had engaged the privacy setting on Fives’ only view of his unconscious friend, leaving him in the dark as to what the long-necks were doing to Tup in the room next door.
Fives sat in the room in silence, alone with his worries and doubts. You were out of his thoughts at this point; the worry and fear he felt for Tup swallowed him whole - until you were the one walking through the door. It could have been any Kaminoan, any droid, yet you were the one they had sent.
His eyes wide, he watched you slowly walk in as you immediately set your attention to the darkened window to the right side of the room. Fives wanted to know if you knew what they were doing to Tup, why they were hurting him, why Fives wasn’t able to be there by his side. He had a million questions, almost all of them relating to Tup, except for the ones he had about you.
Fives was sitting on a cot on the other side of the room, and you hadn’t noticed him yet. What is she doing here? Who is she? She definitely isn’t a long-neck. He wanted to ask you all kinds of questions, a mix between wanting to know more about Tup and wanting to know more about you, but all he could muscle out was one word.
“You?” Fives shook his head in disbelief as the first word he said to you left his lips. It did manage to get your attention, though, because you turned away from the dark window and were now staring directly at him. Fives felt his heart beat just a little harder when he could finally take in your whole figure in more than just a quick glance. You were beautiful - more beautiful than anything he’d ever seen, and wearing the same thing he saw you in earlier; a tucked-in dark grey skin-tight top that came up your neck like clone under-armor blacks did, a white lab coat that came down to your ankles, hugging your curves in all the right ways along the way. The coat was open in the front, save for the one buttoned part right at your waist, just barely keeping the coat together. Your black boots were knee-high, your black leggings tucked into them. You stepped closer to Fives and his heart started racing; he was completely in awe of you, but there was something else, and it made warmth head straight to his groin.
***
Renna’s POV
Fives. That was his name. Not ARC-5555 , just like Tup wasn’t CT-5385. “No clones go by numbers anymore,” he had informed you. Being waist-deep in paperwork all the time never gave you an opportunity to actually work with the clones. All you knew about the clones were their designations, along with whatever the paperwork was filed for. It didn’t occur to you that they had names.
“Look, is Tup gonna be alright? Have they found anything out?” Fives’ eyes were pleading, begging for some kind of reassurance.
“Please, sit down.” He huffed, but obeyed. “We’re using hyper level tests, so we should get the results fairly quickly.” He nodded his head, thankful for any little crumb you could give him. “I’m gonna need to get started now, okay?”
Needle in hand and ready to go, you preemptively apologized.
“Wh- ow!” You jabbed the needle into the side of his neck, a sympathetic smile on your lips.
“I said I was sorry!” You chuckled quietly. Fives rubbed at his neck and you made you way back over to the counter, inserting the needle into the port next to the computer.
“Well?” His hand still rubbing at his neck, you squinted your eyes to read the results displayed on the screen.
“Everything... seems normal.” You weren’t exactly sure what to expect, but you were happy your very first patient wasn’t immediately dying on you.
“Oh, great! That means you can let me out, right?” The excited tone in his voice made it quite difficult to relay the next part to him.
With an apologetic smile, you walked back over and sat on the cot across from him.
“Actually... I’m afraid that’s not possible right now, Fives. I was instructed to keep you in quarantine until we’ve pinpointed the exact cause of Tup’s breakdown. We can’t risk any further casualties.” You couldn't bear to look at him now, so you glued your eyes to a fresh scuff mark on the toe of your boot.
“Like I told you before, I am not a threat, and neither is Tup!” You looked back up at him when his voice raised. Fives wasn’t angry, or at least it didn’t appear that way. He was worried for his friend.
“I- I believe you, Fives. Unfortunately, I’m not the one to make those kinds of calls. I’m just- just an intern. This is my first day not filing paperwork in the archives. I don’t- I don’t want to mess this up. You’re my first real patient.” You stood up to leave the room, letting your hand rest on his shoulder for just a moment in an attempt to comfort him. Something you never thought you’d be doing - comforting a clone. You told him you’d be back later to check up on him and to perform any tests the doctors deemed necessary. Then you left.
***
As you headed for your quarters for the night, you couldn’t help but think back on your introductory meeting with your very first patient. You replayed your short conversation over and over in your head; you transfixed on his voice, the raw emotion in it that went straight to his facial expressions, and the way he looked at you. You’ve seen his face many, many times in the files you were doused with daily, but most of the clones on Kamino didn’t have anything significant to mark them apart from one another - no scars, tattoos, different hair styles, and were generally clean-shaven. When you first saw Fives, his tattoo and facial hair was what did it for you. You hated to admit it, but you may have just accidentally gotten a crush on the ARC Trooper.
This was all new to you. You never realized clones had such... emotion. Or capable of such emotion, for that matter. You were kept in the dark for the entirety of your internship on Kamino, and now you understood why. You weren’t Kaminoan, you weren’t a Jedi, you were just an intern. In their eyes, there was no reason as to why you should engage the clones, so they kept you busy with paperwork every day. You wondered if you were physically kept away from the clones because you were also human, and therefore were able to share the same emotion and ideals as them. That idea wouldn’t have made sense to you if you thought about it earlier today, but now that you met Fives, it made sense.
Maybe the Kaminoans were fearful that you would be a distraction to them, or them to you.

Obi-Wan raises Luke instead of Owen and Beru, please.
Oooh, nice.
Because I am That Person I want to do the Satine lives AU (I haven’t finished Clone Wars yet, but one of my friends has Strong Opinions about similar AUs).
Obi-Wan doesn’t leave the Jedi Order to be with her, because Duty, and all that with the war, but perhaps once the war is over he can?
But then Anakin falls to the Dark Side and it’s decided to separate the twins. Leia goes to Bail and Breha, and Obi-Wan is supposed to take Luke to Tatooine to be raised by his aunt and uncle, but.
Obi-Wan’s in his ship leaving Coruscant after losing Anakin the way he did and it isn’t a conscious decision really, that has him putting in the coordinates for Mandlore, doesn’t even register until his droid is like ??? and he sees what he’s done, and has this moment of oh, I didn’t mean to do that, did I?
He means to fix it, input the coordinates for Tatooine, a weavin winding path in case he’s followed, but stops to think about it.
It makes sense to take Luke there, no one would think to look for him, but the thought of leaving Luke, one of the last pieces of Anakin left to him to be raised by people who wouldn’t understand him leaves him with a bad taste in his mouth.
Regret, guilt, for failing Anakin so completely, and it’s like. Anakin has ties to Tatooine that someone smart enough might look into, might find Luke, but Mandalore? That complicated mess is all Obi-Wan’s now.
And it’s selfish, he’s being selfish, not wanting to give Luke up, thinks about the Order and attachments, but look where it got them in the end, you know? (His foundations have been rocked, shattered beneath his feet but if he thinks on it there were cracks, fault-lines long before that.)
So.
He calculates s winding, weaving course to Mandalore and goes to Satine where they raise Luke as their foundling, right?
They keep the whole...Jedi thing on the down-low, because ancient enemies but Obi-Wan and Satine’s inner circle know, because how couldn’t they?
Obi-Wan may go by a different name these days, but it’s close enough to his real name it wouldn’t take much thought to connect the two. Also, his face???
And Luke okay. Obi-Wan teaches him to control his Jedi abilities and such from an early age, but he couches it in games and play and all Mr. Miyagi with his wax on, wax off schtick kid of deal to keep Luke from accidentally giving away the fact he’s strong in the Force and so on.)
Meanwhile there’s an effort to dial back the animosity towards the Jedi, which meets with mixed results, because people. Also, also, over the years Obi-Wan encourages Satine to mend the rift between her followers and those exiled to Concordia.
Also, with mixed results, but with the Empire’s numbers growing it seems like a mistake to allow Mandalore to be divided.
They reach some kind of understanding, not entirely reconciled, but better than things were before.
In another meanwhile, Luke is being raised as a Mandalorian, and like Obi-Wan earns a set of armor.
But then!
The Purge happens, and in the chaos Luke is separated from Obi-Wan and Satine, the other Mandalorians.
He has his armor and a ship and the lightsaber that belonged to his father Obi-Wan shoved into his hands before they were separated.
Has to hide from the Empire because one thing Obi-Wan made sure he knew from a young age is that he couldn’t all ow himself to be captured by them, that they’d be looking for him.
(And on some lonely nights after the Purge when his nightmares seem more real than usual, some part of him wonders if the Purge happened because Mandalore refused to join with the Empire, or if someone found out about him?)
Anyway.
Mandalorians and the reputation for being fierce fighters and skilled bounty hunters and Luke is truly alone for the first time in his life. Little money to his name and his ship can only get so far before it runs out of fuel, and he needs ammunition and food to eat, and it’s just.
He finds work s a bounty hunter, and the first few bounties are part of a learning process. Thank goodness for his armor or he’d have been dead dozen times over the first month.
Still.
He’s been raised as a Mandalorian his whole life, maybe saw himself as an outsider because his Force abilities and the secrets Obi-Wan kept even from him, but he’s been training as a warrior his whole life.
(Pacifists, yes, but the galaxy is a dangerous place and perhaps more so for someone like Luke, so.)
Between the regular weapons and hand-to-hand and whatnot and Obi-Wan’s instruction with his Force abilities and his father’s lightsaber he’s quite the dangerous individual.
He keeps running into this Corellian smuggler and his Wookie co-pilot, and sometimes he turns a blind eye to their antics if he’s tracking someone else. (In return Han’s willing to let information slip to Luke, for the price of a drink or a meal, and of course he’d never say no to an outright gift of credits, so.)
There’s a miscommunication on a job, once. Luke after a bail jumper and this other Mandalorian with a silver helmet who wants the pilot Luke’s bounty hired.
There’s a bit of a fight, nothing serious before it occurs to Luke that the aforementioned pilot looked a little too panicky at the sight of the other Mandalorian to be fully innocent. (Also, it’s Mos Eisley. Innocent people are exceedingly rare here.)
It’s the first time Luke’s worked with another Mandalorian on a bounty, and it’s actually kind of nice. (Although he suspects the other Mandalorian may have ties to The Tribe, but it’s the least of his problems at the moment and the man makes for good company.)
Anyway, anyway, at some point Luke runs into Ahsoka - and he knows her. Obi-Wan and his secrets and she’s safe, she can help him.
At first she’s reluctant, because look what happened to Anakin, what if she’s resposnsible for the same happening to Luke? But he finds a way to convince her - stubborn like Anakin, if not worse - and she takes up his training where Obi-Wan left off.
She’ll lave from time to time because Rebellion shenaigans, and sometimes Luke goes along to help.
And then word through Luke or Ahsoka’s contacts about Leia being taken prisoner and important plans and they’re so far out they might not make it in time.
“I know someone who might help?” Luke offers, because he and Han are hardly friends (they kind of are though), and the Falcon is one of the fastest ships out there even if she doesn’t look like it.
So, side trip to Tatooine and Han is just “Oh, come on, you too? What is with today?” because Greedo and Luke being a bounty hunter and Ahsoka is super unimpressed.
Once Luke explains what he needs, Han is like “NO,” but Luke convinces him and Han reluctantly agrees (but then Jabba and that whole mess and it’s kind of a disaster getting off Tatooine but they make it so everything’s fine.
Before they leave though, there’s this weird hermit they run into and emotional reunions because Obi-Wan and he thought Luke was dead and what has he been doing? Also it’s very nice to see you again, Ahsoka, you look well.
Luke going up to the cockpit to give them privacy for their part of the reunion and sharing information and all that.
And then rescuing Leia and Luke in his beskar getting between Obi-Wan and Vader even though both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka are incredibly not happy about that, but some people there were just going to let the sith lord kill them, and Luke is just how about no???
(Satine would never forgive Obi-Wan something like that Luke’s sure, and according to Obi-Wan she’s back on Tatooine still, so.)
Leia gets rescued and the Rebellion’s down a few pilots and oh, hey, Luke’s kind of not bad at that whole deal?
Obi-Wan’s needed as a strategist - and honestly, no one wants him out of sight after the whole thing on the Death Star - and Ahsoka with her Rebellion Thing.
Han comes back to save Luke’s life and Luke destroys the Death Star and happy ending for now?
But Luke knows there’s something about Vader and Luke himself that has Obi-Wan and Ahsoka deeply worried. (When he thinks about it there are a few reasons why that might be, but he does his best not to dwell on it.)
Anyway.
The usual Star Wars shenanigans but with Mandalorian!Luke with his armor and whatnot.
Confrontations between Luke and Vader go a little differently because of Luke’s armor? But the hand thing still happens because parallels or some nonsense, idk.
(Anakin’s not the only one who has to remove their helmet on the second Death Star and so on.)
Leia has mixed feelings about the whole Boba Fett putting Han in carbonite because Luke’s used the same method on some of his bounties in the past. (The violent dangerous ones that posed a risk to him transporting them the guild, though, but it doesn’t matter to Leia at the time.)
After the destruction of the second Death Star there’s talk, idle, unsure about forming a school to teach the next generation of Jedi?
Because Force-sensitive kids and there must be a better way, a balance between the ole Jedi Order and a new one.
Until then, Luke is curious about the whole Jedi thing, goes looking for relics and whatnot. (Maybe does some bounty hunting every so often, because why not.)
Satine wants to go back to Mandalore, help her people if she can and Obi-Wan goes with her because not a lot of reason to stick around Tatooine otherwise.
And then!
This call for help through the Force and Luke following it to an Imperial light cruiser and Din being very, very confused at seeing a Mandalorian with a lightsaber?
Is it like Bo-Katan’s Darksaber? Will one of them have to change? So confused. (Also though, possible concussion from his fight with the Dark Trooper, but yes.)
“Are you a Jedi?” Din asks, feeling that it’s a valid question because Mandalorians and Jedis and ancient enemies????
And yet.
Luke is like, hey, it’s you! Because silver helmet and remember that time we got into a fight on Tatooine? But also, also, hello Aunt Bo-Katan and friends.
Mainly though, Grogu who is kind of losing his tiny little mind because Mandalorian? But also Jedi? But Mandalorian???
And then shenanigans in which Luke is like, huh, about the Darksaber and poor Din who wants nothing to do with it. His adopted mother who wants to help her people but afraid they won’t listen to her after what the Empire’s done them and is like.
Strangely convenient, but he’ll take it.
They stop by the closest New Republic planet or outpost to hand Gideon and whatever other Imperials are still on board over and then head to Mandalore.
Din is still so very confused, but it doesn’t seem like Luke plans to take Grogu away and he’ll take what he can get. (So sure Luke will take Grogu far away at some point, but tries not to think too hard about that.)
And then the whole working at calling Mandalorians home - Din is super unsure about being the new ruler of Mandalore, but once Bo-Katan and Satine have a chat about the fure of their world they’re like, “He’s perfect for the role.”
Just needs a little help, and with them and Obi-Wan and other trusted people to help him, something great could come of it.
Luke stays on Mandalore - his home more than anywhere else in the galaxy - and he and Obi-Wan train Grogu. Ahsoka too, when she visits.
Once Mandalore and its people are more settled there’s talk of joining the New Republic, right?
Leia as the New Republic’s representative, and Obi-Wan one of Din’s advisors, negotiators and it seems as though good things will happen there too.
But!
Also!
Luke who grew up on Mandalore helping introduce Din to it? Teach him about this world he’s never seen, but is important in its own way more than ever now.
And little Grogu and all that.
Keldabe kisses in a courtyard on a night when Luke’s meditating outside, Din restless after tucking Grogu in and happens across Luke.
Understands that Luke doesn’t follow the Creed the way Din does, but he was raised as a Mandalorian and Din’s seen him in his helmet more often than not and anyway.
Luke meditating in the moonlight and while Din was worried he might have interrupted, Luke opens his eyes and smiles, something about it drawing Din closer.
And it’s.
There’s been so much Pining, but this is Luke, and anyway, keldabe kisses, and Luke laughing at Din being so flustered by it, but Luke’s laughter is shaky, breathless and really, the man’s a hypocrite.
Still, the two of them stay like that for a little while longer.

"Ooooh can I come on this one too?" Kayden clapped his hands excitedly like a child, his eyes wide in anticipation and nearly bouncing on his seat.
As it turned out, taking him with you all wasn't hard. It only required a Batcher to have your wooden crest in their possession for him to be able to follow them in a 3 klicks radius and his presence on missions had helped on the two previous ones he slipped himself in.
Retrieving heavily guarded data was a walk in the park when you could have someone walk in there like a tourist, search around for his objective while ignoring the commands of the clankers surrounding him and laugh as the friendly fire killed a majority of the enemy forces.
He even managed to detonate a malfunctioning bomb by walking right up to it, press the button to blow up the whole base and pop back into the Marauder in a second, whistling like it was nothing. Correcting the error in the programming would have taken too much time and the chances of a Batcher being hurt would have risen exponentially with each passing second.
He was a precious ace up your sleeves… when he wasn't a shit digger.
Unsurprisingly, his not-so-hidden talent was to create chaos wherever he passed. It was true back in Alryan, it was still true in the Havoc Marauder. Many new rules were created to ensure that nothing too awkward happened and to keep a somewhat control over the situation.
Rule number one: Kayden had to be visible at all times when in the ship, the only exception to the rule being when people outside the Batch were around. Two: the barracks were off-limits as he didn't sleep and there were established relationships aboard that liked to have their private alone time. Then came rule number three: do not be a nuisance. This command encompassed the pranks, the whining and the fact that he couldn't be seen or else the Batch would be in deep problems.
"General Skywalker is a Jedi, Kayden. What if he can sense you? Or worse, what if he sees you? What do you want us to tell him?"
Cody's debrief has been short and a bit too vague to your liking. Usually, he was more concise but then again, you've rarely worked with Jedis before. In the nearly two years you passed with them, it only happened once and it was a memorable experience.
Watching those two peacekeepers fight from your seat in the Havoc Marauder left you in awe. Their movements and grace made a straining fight look so easy and- "Dunno. That he should stop doing spices?"
Kayden said it with such nonchalance that you nearly got whiplash at how quick you turned to face him, although you did choke on air at the mere idea of insulting a General that can use the Force.
"No. You're sitting this one out. We can't risk blowing her cover if he can link you to her and Fors." Hunter intervened while getting his armor on, just like the rest of the team.
"He could be useful during the recon part of the mission." Tech pointed out, adjusting his pauldrons. "There are still a lot of unknown variables in this operation and his abilities could be desirable on the field."
"Yeah what he said." Kayden's arms crossed at his chest. You rolled your eyes at his childishness and finished strapping your custom chestplate on to get to your rerebraces and vambraces.
"If you can refrain from pulling tricks on everyone and follow orders that is." Tech added with a heavy look. If it managed to get his attention away from his datapad, then it was a really important point.
"I can do that." You would have laughed at how definite he sounded, but Crosshair beat you to it.
"Right." The sniper sneered and you smirked. Now that he could get away with pretty much anything, Kayden often took pleasure in disturbing the grey-haired clone and rile him up until you had to intervene or Crosshair would blow a fuse.
"You ass-"
"The answer's still no. We successfully completed missions with bigger holes in them than this one. We'll manage." Hunter put an end to the debate just as he slipped his helmet on his head.
"Yeah cuz y'all like big holes, eh?" Since he was losing, he retreated to his old habits. You kind of felt bad for him. You knew he was bored of staying on the ship. Hells, even you who were the assigned pilot had more fun in this thin can because you could actually fly it. All he could do was watch all days long and wait all nights long.
"Better stop talking now." Crosshair too slipped his bucket on and grabed his rifle for a last inspection.
"Or you'll hit me?" Smugness dripped from each of his words, a daring look in his eyes.
"Let's not get there, shall we?" You showed him the Core between your fingers, that he knew you could control his density with. Wrecker happily tested your theory a while back.
"No thank you." Kayden conceded defeat, hands in the air and slumped in his seat behind you, arms crossed.
________
The recon went well if you based yourself on the fact that everyone was still in one piece, regs and Batchers alike. There was no denying that you were worried Crosshair would cause too much problem to the boys in blue. It seemed like there was tension between them and your abrasive boyfriend, but nothing too dangerous.
As the Marauder's pilot, you stayed behind with the ship and by extension, Kayden, who whined the whole time about not being able to enjoy his time as a ghost.
"I'm still young! Now's the time to enjoy myself! Not when I'll be an old rat like that chandeler."
"Chancelor." You'd correct him on the title, but not on the old rat. You had to admit that he did give off that vibe. As for his age, you actually had no idea if he was still aging or not.
You admired your work, the ship was in order, every supply has been replenished in the boys' absence, the fuels tanks were full to the brim and all that was missing for the ship to be complete was the crew of walking testosterone.
A couple of hours later they arrived and you fussed over them. None were injured, to your relief, and everyone headed to bed for a short night of sleep. Everyone who could sleep, that is.
You knew it'd be awkward to have a Jedi on board so you geared up quickly, wolfed down your plain food that the GAR dared call a breakfast and put your whole armor on, deadset on keeping your helmet on until the mission was over. Not even Crosshair managed to take it off you for a kiss.
"It'll be fine." He'd reassured you with that soft tone he only reserved for his time alone with you. The following keldabe kiss put you more at ease.
The effect only lasted an hour.
Shortly after, the General entered the ship with his Captain in tow and you set course on Skako Minor.
You had managed to lay low for a good part of the trip with your Bad Batch fashioned bucket on and some good old shut-your-mouth. The boys at the back kept all the attention, Kayden remained invisible and civilized, while you navigated the ship alongside Tech.
Everything was alright until you felt Skywalker's gaze taking you in, up and down slowly just like the two Jedis a year ago. He analyzed you the same manner they both did, with an attentive eye and- you couldn't see it but you were sure it was there- a small frown. Your heartbeat picked up again and you forcefully swallowed the lump in your throat.
Tech's theory about your origins being somehow mixed with the Jedis' must be true to some extent. Three out of three force users took a special interest in you and you were sure what got their attention was the weird wave of energy traveling between you.
He approached the front of the ship and you could now see his scrunched eyebrows, his head slightly tilted to the side, still trying to figure out what was special about you.
Heat raised to your cheeks under your helmet, every muscle in your legs contracted to keep you from listening to your fears of being separated from your newfound family and run away. There was nowhere to run anyway, you weren't in the jungle anymore.
Would he try to invade your mind like Wrecker said? Would he find out who you were? Stay calm. Keep your mask on like in the village and it'll be fine. Calm your mind.
After more than a year on this ship, you developed the useful ability to distinguish who was walking where with the mere sound of the person's steps. Each clone had a distinctive footstep and right now, it was Hunter who moved to your side to save your ass. The sore muscles in your legs started relaxing, followed by the drum in your chest. You'd be fine. Hunter will have it under control.
Then, right before Hunter could intervene, General Skywalker suddenly gripped his shoulder in a hiss, freezing the blood in your veins. The man looked behind him to find no one close enough to have hurt him and flee. All the others were minding their own business, while Hunter was yet not within arms reach.
"What…"
"General?" Captain Rex inquired after he approached at his CO's sound of pain, the confusion on his features reflected perfectly the one on the brunette's face.
The Jedi stood silent for a moment longer. You felt the energy around him shifting as he searched his surroundings for something. Please do not find him. Please do not find him!
Thank the gods Texh was actually piloting the ship, your attention so completely focussed on the General that you could have rammed into an asteroid the size of a planet.
"It's nothing." He shrugged it off and reported his attention on you. "I don't think no one mentioned a pilot. What's your name trooper?"
Talking to General Skywalker was inevitable and you knew it. You simply didn't think that you'd be stuck in a Kayden-induced stress while doing so.
"Not a trooper, sir." You removed your helmet to show him what you meant and offer him a sheepish smile. "My name's Y/N."
"My apologies. I didn't know the GAR assigned civilians to trooper squads." Again, he eyed you up and down, but you kept your cool this time. He didn't seem to be able to find what was wrong and didn't force an access in your head.
"It's rare but not unheard of. Her abilities with a ship made her a good match for our team and the," He paused to search for an adequate word. "Type of mission we usually do." Tech elaborated on your situation.
"And what type is that?" Rex came closer to get a good look at you and even offer you a hand to shake.
"Downright suicidal, Captain." You managed to genuinely chuckle while shaking his hand in a firm grip. "I'd recommend strapping in, the landing will be a difficult one." You announced as the first turbulence racked the Marauder.
You silently prayed that this situation with the blue-eyed Jedi would be the only difficult part of the mission. Helmet back on, you showed off your skills by landing the ship in a raging storm.
_______
There was very little you could do for Echo without using the Core. After reading through the whole Forsian book about its powers, you learned that it could be used to heal dying planets and basically anything in the galaxy.
Your desire to create or heal a planet was extremely low. However, your desire to heal your comrades was very high. Instead of creating life and whatnot, you used the Core to heal their wounds and keep them safe. So far, no one had been on the verge of death so the crystal passed its time tucked in your pocket that was now closed with a zipper to ensure that it did not slip out.
The book didn't tell whether or not using the Core affected the Force so you refrained from using the golden rock on Echo seeing as Tech and yourself highly supposed that it did, as it was said that the Force was connected to every form of life and the Core was the initial creator of life. There was no way you'd leave hints for General Skywalker to pick.
Echo went off a while ago, looking paler than Kayden, to barge in a strategic debrief with too many Generals for you to ever consider following him. Now that the ship was only composed of members of the Bad Batch, reprimands were in order.
"You hit the General?!" Despite keeping his voice down, the strength in his tone unconsciously caused you to press further into the cushion of your seat in the cockpit.
"I pinched him because he made her uncomfortable." Kayden popped on the Sergeant's left with a scowl of his own. To his credit, he did stay with you in the ship and followed Hunter's orders. You were sure he would have sneaked the crest on someone's backpack like he did on the very mission he attended.
"I was going to intervene." You let them bicker, instead turning to Tech when his hand fell to your armored shoulder.
"I get it that you've had another sort of connection with the General." His curious brown eyes met yours for a whole second.
"Yeah. It was more powerful with him than with the others." You recalled, remembering how the dull hum between you and General Skywalker was way more significant than the one flowing between you and the two previous Jedis.
"I highly suspect that the strength of the bond is influenced by the strength of the Jedi. General Skywalker is known to be quite strong Force-wise." He typed away at his vambrace too fast for you to keep up with his notes. Back-Up peered up at you with her dark eyes, her body wrapped tightly around Tech's vambrace to enjoy the warmth radiating from the electronics below the plastoid. "It seems like you can still feel a particular form of Force despite not being sensitive to it. Surely due to your legacy and your connection to the Core. It is the source of the Force after all."
You nearly yelped when a fist collided with your shoulder. Wrecker's playful punch didn't hurt as much as it scared the shit out of you. "Yes because she's a goddess!"
You sighed at the perpetual reminder that you may or may not be as normal as you'd like to be. Wrecker's excitement was cute and all, but you wanted to be their equal, not some deity that could be perceived as superior or something.
You knew your two boyfriends had been influenced by it at some point. He never told you, but you were certain Crosshair had been intimidated or would use the excuse of you being "better than he was" to belittle himself. He had started distancing himself a little, although you didn't let him the time to get too far and reassured him that you didn't care who or what you were, that all you wanted was to be his. Hunter found himself on the other side of the spectrum. He would often use the excuse of you being a "goddess" to worship you more than necessary. He didn't get it the wrong way like his brother, no, he used it to his advantage, whispering words of adoration and how he could venerate your body all day long. You blushed at the memory of your last worshipping session.
"Am not!"
"You are!"
"Am not!"
"You brought Kayden back! And you healed my blaster burn the other week and you helped that village on Ruusan when their entire crops have been destroyed by the clankers!"
You bit your lip at the reminder of what you did. Tech had been against your intervention, saying that miraculously reappearing crops would be awfully suspicious and could be easily linked to the team. You'd listened in the beginning, but as the day passed, you noticed more and more people hurting from hunger. Kids who couldn't understand why they couldn't satisfy their rumbling stomachs cried their hunger, mothers did their best to not seem affected but from a sharp, adult eye, their suffering was clear.
You weren't an idiot. New crops didn't magically grow back in under a minute. No, deep down you wished that there was a nearby undiscovered meadow, hidden in the dense vegetation, where juicy fruits grew in the trees and small preys liked to play. Edible fungus pullulated through the grass amongst the root vegetables that were already ready to be harvested.
It had been 100% unintentional. You'd thought that this could have been a good idea and the next thing you knew, a kid came back running with two round fruits in his hands, holding them like they were treasures and claiming that there was “infinite” more. Needless to say, the kid's overstatement gave you a heart attack and won you a lecture by not only Tech but Hunter too. Up to this day, you never regretted accidentally helping them. Not when the kids were cheering in glee at the food and the moms were relieved to the point of spilling some tears.
"She's a what who did what?" A voice rang out from the Havoc Marauder's entrance, sending your heartbeat and body heat through the roof.
Echo stood there in his new armor, courtesy of Clone Force 99's armor surplus from when Tech developed your own custom model, a deep frown deforming his tired features.
For a split second, everyone stood there, frozen in place, until Crosshair harshly pulled the clone inside and hit the buttons near the door to lift the ramp. Should have done that sooner. You could at least be relieved that he was alone and not accompanied by either his Captain or General.
"Who's that?" Echo added once he realized he'd walked in a confidential conversation and that everyone was wracking their brains to find a suitable lie. His features hardened from confusion to suspicion as he shook Crosshair off his arm and stood straighter.
Kayden, who was still poking Hunter's chest plate, clapped his hands once and kept them pressed together. "No one." There was an awkward pause as he met yours and Hunter's gaze and turned to Echo with a wink. "Don't do spices." He uselessly added before vanishing.
The gloved hand flying to your forehead was purely unintentional. Idiot!
"What was that?! Where did he go?" The clone took a step backward, his eyes moving around frantically.
"He's- eh-" Hunter was the first to attempt to defuse the situation. He was a good liar. Knew what signs to avoid, how to keep his vitals as normal as possible and had quite a quick reply. The thing was, Echo had had enough time to see that Kayden wasn't just the fruit of his imagination and the moron even talked. The alarmed expression on Wrecker's face wasn't helping either.
Considering all the factors, you decided that Hunter's lie would not do. "Echo, calm down. Let us explain." You abandoned your seat to get closer.
"How can I trust what you say when you hide things from the GAR and that- the man that was there- he…" He tripped on his words and guilt washed over you. The poor man passed years at the Techno Union's mercy, was brainwashed, butchered up and patched back up with mechanical pieces. He was already lost and confused and what he overheard wasn't helping.
"Big words coming from you." Your jaw tightened as soon as Crosshair cut him off, the toothpick between his lips moving from one side of his mouth to the other.
Echo bristled at the attack. "What does that mean?"
"You've been a Separatist puppet for quite some time, selling the GAR every time you could. Now, how do we know you won't be selling us out?" He grabbed his toothpick and threw it with a flick to the white and blue chestplate before you could even lift your hand to stop him.
"I wasn't in control! I'd never betray the GAR and my brothers!"
"Cross, stop." You put yourself between the sniper and the once reg, your right hand falling on the grey plastoid to keep him at bay and maybe calm his arrogance. You knew his whole demeanor was because he was worried you'd be taken away if Echo decided to report you and what happened with Kayden. You were worried too. Scared even. But it wasn't Echo's fault and you couldn't hold it against him. Talking about such things when still on base had been stupid and reckless.
Crosshair didn't meet your eyes but you knew he'd not interfere when the muscles in his neck relaxed. Your hand fell to your side and you turned to Echo. "My instinct tells me that you're trustworthy, so listen. What I'll tell you must not be repeated outside the Marauder and to no one else."
"Y/N-" Hunter tried to talk you down from telling the truth, a hand softly grabbing on your shoulder to catch your attention.
"It's alright. Echo's a good one." You smiled warmly at the tattooed clone. "I'm not a goddess," You shot a look at Wrecker who nodded his head in contradiction. "But I can create some things at will. Like crops and such." You intentionally forgot to mention the Core. You trusted your gut, but let's not forget that the Lumsins fooled you once. "And the guy you saw was Kayden. He's- eh…"
"Your brother." A voice rang out from nowhere and everywhere, scaring Echo who jumped and hit a console with his elbow.
Silently wishing he did not hit his funny bone, you continued. "Adopted. But yeah. He's that. And he's technically dead."
His eyes grew wide and once again, he seemed to struggle to find the right words."Wh- Did you say dea-"
Sharp knocks on the side of the ship cut the conversation short. "Permission to get in? I hope you're all ready in there!"
Everyone straightened, multiple pairs of eyes fell on the 501st trooper to see how he'd react. Against a majority of the expectations aboard the Marauder, Echo kept his mouth shut.
"Of course General! Sorry about the ramp!" You answered the man outside the door before quickly glancing back at Echo. "If you keep this for yourself, I'll explain more later." You promised and even offered your hand to seal the deal.
After looking at the boys behind you that you were sure looked back at him with hard looks and maybe some distrustful gazes, he nodded once, shook your hand and stepped aside so you could lower the ramp for the blue Captain and his General.
"Welcome back." You smiled before hurrying away to your seat, away from the weird buzzing energy that roared to life once the Jedi walked up the stairs.
______
Flying right towards a Separatist fleet messed with your nerves. Even though you'd previously mentioned trusting the robot-clone, Kayden could easily feel the doubt snaking its way into your mind. Despite everything, you remained calm and focused on your task. As soon as the droid called your permission to land on their big-ass ship, the brunette felt a new wave of pride wash away your worry.
He had to admit, so far your guess had been right. The clone kept his word and didn't mention Kayden or the fact that you were a goddess to any of the men that radiated authority more than testosterone. Because yes, you were a god damn goddess despite you denying it like a vegan that claims to have never cheated on their crazy diet.
So far, you were the only member of the Bad Batch who trusted Echo. Even Wrecker was still torn between accepting the new guy or following his brothers' judgment. As usual Crosshair was nasty towards everyone, Hunter was more on his guard than anything else and Tech, well, Kayden didn't like feeling Tech's emotions. They were so fast and too much was happening at the same time that it gave him terrible headaches. From the look he exchanged with Hunter, though, it was easy to tell how he felt about Echo.
Guess they're like that for every outsider that joins the bubble, Kayden thought. He watched as you landed upside down under the belly of the cruiser and gave your signal to the rest of them.
Time to go!
Sneaking the crest into Wrecker's backpack had been terribly unchallenging. Everyone was concentrated on the mission or on Echo, leaving him all the time in the world to fetch the necklace from under your pillow- yes, he wasn't supposed to be in this room but who listens to rules anyway- pass through the barracks doors and discreetly make his way to Wrecker. No one saw the flying piece of wood and now he could get off this damn ship and maybe even enjoy his time outside.
Kayden jogged and ran with the group, staying invisible for any mortal and mechanical eyes. He watched as Echo proved his loyalty to the Republic and got zapped when he pushed his luck.
So far, he'd been pretty disappointed. He thought a cruiser this size would swarm droids of all sorts, giving him some reason to be out and about. Then Skywalker ran away and the action began. He didn't know if he still had veins and adrenaline, but Kayden felt a surge of energy flow through his whole being. Let the fun begin!
He walked two corridors down so he would not be seen by Rex still following the Bad Batch and messed with the droids' internal circuits. He discovered that his new ghost status allowed him to disrupt electronic systems. Tech wasn't too happy about his learning method, but it was a necessary process.
To his delight, the droids fell like flies under his ministrations and he got to return invisible before the clones even turned the corner. He waited for them, leaning onto the wall with a smug grin on his face. Hunter will love this.
"What happened here?" The blue trooper's steps faltered as he took in the scene. Hunter shook his head with a low grunt while Tech crouched to assess the nearest robot. The Bad Batch already knew what happened, but needed to put on a show nonetheless. The wave of displeasure radiating off every single one of them minus Wrecker nearly made him laugh.
"They seem to have malfunctioned, somehow." Tech provided his best half-truth. There wasn't time to ponder more on the matter as more droids marched their way and thus, Rex accepted the explanation and passed to the next problem.
"There's too many of them!" Kayden scoffed at Rex's statement. Not for this team, bud.
To Kayden's joy, Wrecker got into position. This was his cue.
"Mind a little help?" He smirked at Crosshair who was currently sniping through his body to hit some targets behind him. From his place right over the corner, there was no way Rex could see him. It wasn't the case for Hunter.
"Hell yeah!" Wrecker cheered before charging the first droid.
"Kayden, no." Hunter growled so low he nearly missed it.
"Kayden, yes." He laughed as he popped at the other end of the hallway filled with droids. Wrecker charged at the B-1s, quickly making his way to Kayden's position as he walked between the yellow robots and worked his magic.
He was taking down his 7th victim when movement and loud approaching steps caught his attention. A large pile of droids charged his way and would have knocked him over had he not made himself intangible.
He couldn't control the laugh bubbling out of his mouth at seeing Wrecker throw the droids everywhere. Since the last enemy standing was shaking in fear, Kayden took it as his cue to disappear once more.
"I heard someone." Rex peaked in the scrap-filled hallway, his head moving right and left to try and identify what caught his ears.
"Wrecker?" Hunter asked with an impeccably innocent voice.
"No, not him. It was a laugh. But it wasn't Wrecker." The man was on edge, his senses alert and gun at the ready.
"Didn't hear anything, Captain." Hunter turned to meet Echo's frowning gaze. Brownie points right there! The peak of gratefulness escaping the long-haired clone was subtle, just enough to breach through his irritation. "Perhaps a defect in your helmet, sir."
He knew he'd be in trouble later but it was worth it. Doing nothing on their ship was boring him out of his mind. Maybe he should ask you to get him some wood and wood scissors so at least his nights would be interesting instead of playing with his thumbs and doing castles with the toothpicks he found here and there.
Kayden stayed behind with Crosshair, still invisible to not disturb the guy. Not that he cared, but he was curious to see how the small mirrors he threw on the walls would help. Knowing the sniper, they were all placed perfectly where they should be even if the pattern seemed random.
He may not like the hard-ass clone very much, but he wasn't ashamed to admit that his skills were impressive. They got to the infiltration point where the others were waiting, Skywalker amongst them, and Crosshair got into position. The thought of moving the first mirror passed through Kayden's mind and prickled at his fingertips.
Hunter was a nice target to pick on. Crosshair, not so much.
The mirror stayed in place, allowing Crosshair to execute his awfully impressive shot and take down every single droid marching their way. Without an ounce of doubt, Kayden knew his face was mirroring Wrecker's.
Back in the ship, it didn't take long for Crosshair to find the crest in Wrecker's bag and shove it into Hunter's hands who closed his fist around it. Oopsie.
You piloted the ship back to the GAR base and gracefully landed in the hangar, something Tech never learned to do or didn't care to execute.
Rex and Skywalker exited the ship, the rest of the troops slower to follow.
"Nice job cyar'ika." Hunter carefully touched your helmet with his, once the two men walked out. Both your foreheads touched for a whole second and Kayden felt the bile rise in his throat.
"You boys did all the work as usual." You laughed, your hand lifting to cradle the side of his neck.
From his invisible spot near the door, Kayden saw Echo do a double-take in the corner of his eyes before following Rex down the ramp, Wrecker and Crosshair behind him.
Hunter threw the crest in the barracks, clearly hoping to keep Kayden in the ship while they had to follow their superiors.
Joke's on you! Kayden internally laughed as they stopped within his 3 klicks radius and received their praises.
Just because you were there and still felt uncomfortable whenever weird people with weird energy were around, he remained from doing shits around the hangar. Then it was time to pack up and go. He did look forward to being visible again, it did consume more energy and was a bother to not be able to pull pranks as he did before, but he could interact with people and it was worth it. Hunter's lecture would be a hassle though.
Maybe he should look around for a crate to push on someone before the fun time was over.
Echo, who apparently decided to trust you all despite not knowing the whole truth about you and him, joined the ranks of the infamous Clone Force 69. Watching you all salute, Kayden entertained the thought of kicking Crosshair behind the knee and admire him stumble to the ground. As hilarious as it seemed in his head, he couldn't find the courage to do it.
You all got in, Wrecker removed his armor, Hunter disappeared in the barracks, Tech helped you pilot and Crosshair hovered over your seat. You removed your helmet and briefly smiled up at him. He kept watching you do your stuff until the Marauder was in hyperspace and the autopilot was engaged.
Echo was still looking around, wondering what to do with himself. Kayden walked up to him, still too ghostly to be seen and waited for the right moment.
You stood up to smile once more at the grumpy clone.
"Now kiss!" Kayden loudly broke the silence as soon as he made himself visible and scared the cyborg. He closed an eye and moved his fingers so he was pushing yours and Cross' heads towards each other.
"Why are you the way you are?" You rolled your eyes with an exasperated sigh and moved around Crosshair to get to the barracks with the sniper in tow, a too familiar glare hardening his gaze.
"Do not make fun of me because I was dropped!" Kayden laughed at your retreating forms.
"Wait… I thought she was with Hunter…" Echo trailed off, confused.
"She is! But she's a girl so she's predisposed to love triangles. Ya know, like in their anatomy. Boobs, south pole. Triangle." He traced a triangle in the air, using your body as a reference.
"And wh-who are you again?" Echo inquired, frowning too deeply for his fragile features.
"The Dimwit." He winked with the most suspicious grin on his lips before vanishing into thin air.
Echo ran to the cockpit and stayed close to Tech for the whole evening.

Nobody Listens to Kix

Case 00864: Dogma
Warning: This chapter deals with the aftermath of the Umbara arc and touches on shock, PTSD, and related themes. Please skip this chapter if those things make you uncomfortable. (No grossness like the last chapter, though.)
For the first time in his life, Kix stood in the middle of the medbay and felt utterly lost. They had been picked up by the Resolute, pulled from Umbara's surface aboard General Skywalker's favorite ship, the Twilight. The medbay was filled with men from the 212th and the 501st alike, men mixed together more completely than they ever had been. They were united in one thing: they were clones.
Nothing else mattered right now, maybe nothing else would ever matter. They had been pitted together, forced to fight to the death against their own brothers, and for what? To help a corrupt Jedi prove that clones were defective? Nothing as petty as the colors painted on their armor could separate the troopers from their vode now.
The medbay was overflowing with troopers and Kix felt helpless. Most of the injuries were minor, easily treated, but the emotional trauma…
Everywhere he looked, Kix found brothers frowning, crying, raging at the injustice of it all, or looking just as lost as he felt. Every bed in the medbay was taken up and troopers still filed in. They leaned against the walls, sat eight to a bed, or just stood in the middle of the floor. Normally, the accepted procedure was to create temporary medbays in the Resolute's hangers, but Kix refused to do that. The bodies of his fallen brothers filled every hanger, and he would sooner be court-martialed than force injured or emotionally-vulnerable men to stare at the bodies of men who had died in transit.
And it was only those who had died on their way to the Resolute who were being recovered. The men who had fallen on Umbara's surface would be left there, left to become part of the planet's dark soil. The Republic didn't worry about burying the clones. The new teams who arrived to hold the planet would have orders to collect the numbers of fallen troopers. A full casualty report couldn't be made until then.
An envoy of Jedi healers was on the way to meet the Resolute, their needs deemed too severe to wait until they had docked at Coruscant. It was a surprise, but one that Kix wouldn't turn away. It seemed that, despite being seen as expendable by the Republic, there were some Jedi who felt the injustice of what the clones had undergone.
The generals were out and about, as well. General Skywalker had gone to console Captain Rex, who - according to clone gossip - had nearly destroyed his office after returning to the ship. General Kenobi and Commander Tano were circling the medbay comforting troopers. They did their best not to look hurt by the men who flinched away from them. They understood that such recent betrayal by a Jedi meant that they would not easily trust another.
Kix noted that every Jedi he had seen since they left Umbara was not wearing a lightsaber. Even Commander Tano's iconic dual hilts were missing from her crossed belts.
General Kenobi veered closer to Kix as he moved through the crowd and stopped to speak with him. "I offer my most sincere apologies, Kix. Please, if there is anything I can do to help-"
Kix had started shaking his head before the General had fully formed the question. His brothers wouldn't accept help from a Jedi just now, and it would just agitate them further. Between himself and the three medical droids, Kix knew he could keep the men in the medbay alive until the Jedi relief healers arrived. Just then, though, he had bigger concerns. "Are you all right, General?"
Kenobi looked surprised when Kix gestured at his face and raised a hand to touch the wet trails down his cheeks. "Oh. I hadn't… I just- There is a great deal of pain in this room," he finally explained without apology. "I despise seeing the men like this. I would do anything to remove the pain from them."
"You and I both, General," Kix agreed. He tried to move away in an effort to treat more of the men, but General Kenobi caught at his arm. Before he could fight the reaction, Kix gave a noticeable flinch.
With an apologetic grimace, Kenobi dropped his hand and said, "There's one man I worry about more than these. Dogma is in bad shape. I don't feel anything from him at all in the Force. It isn't a good sign. I know you're busy, but..."
"I'll check on him, sir," Kix assured him, moving away with a medic's clipped steps. At the moment, it still felt more fantasy than reality, but the need for a plan had helped him build concentration. The medbay was too full to be effective, and he needed to start moving troopers away from the area.
Kix easily found Fives and Jesse, sitting in silence in the back of the room. Having obviously decided that the beds were too crowded - or needed by other men - they had opted to sit on the floor with their backs firmly braced against the wall. "I need you both to direct some of the men out of here."
Fives shook his head. "You can't expect them to leave. They're scared."
"I know, but I can't save anyone if I can't move in here," Kix argued. "I know we've gone through a horrible tragedy, but I need them to find somewhere else. Take them to one of the barracks. They need space and quiet and sleep, if they can manage it. I'll even get the ship's mess to send food and drinks, but they need to be away from here."
Jesse's lips were pale. "I don't know if we can move them, Kix. I don't think I can do it."
Kix's temper sparked, but he kept his voice calm and supportive as he crouched down in front of the troopers. "You are both leaders in the 501st. Fives, you're an ARC trooper. Jesse, your actions back there have you in line for a promotion, I can guarantee it. The men look up to you. You've taken care of them this whole time and you'll keep taking care of them by making sure they get the food and rest that they need. Give me a second to get Captain Trapper from the 212th and you can start moving men to the barracks. Move them in small groups and make sure one of you stays at the barracks with them so they feel safe."
A few moments later, Kix led Trapper back to the others, having explained the plan to him as well. "Start with the men who seem most at ease. The nervous ones will follow once they see the others leaving. If any of the men start to show signs of illness or trauma, bring them back here and I'll take care of them."
Fives gave a decisive nod. "Right. Let's start with the men we know will come along. Jesse, get Tup, Gurr, and Strike. They're good at explaining things to people. I'll get Appo, Fledge, and Quasi. They can start convincing people to come with us."
Obviously catching on to Fives's plan, Jesse added, "We'll try to get as many men with us as we can on the first trip. That might get some of the nervous ones to follow along eventually."
"I'll get a few steady troopers from the 212th to help out," Captain Trapper agreed. "Kix, we'll take them to D-Barracks. In case anyone needs one of the men, that's where you'll find us."
Kix nodded his appreciation and the men started working. It was a surprisingly quick process. After the initial troopers had been informed of the plan and circulated the room for a few minutes, the first group left, leaving the medbay noticeably more quiet than it had been. It took a total of four trips to convince all the stragglers, but Kix was eventually left with only a few of the most drastically injured men, General Kenobi, and Commander Tano.
"Should we go to D-Barracks, too?" Ahsoka asked.
Kix gritted his teeth. "Sorry, Commander. Most of the men just aren't ready to be around the Jedi yet. They need a place they can see as being safe, a type of haven."
Open hurt flashed across the Togruta's face. "I just want to help."
"I know, sir, and the men know, too. Everything is just a little fresh right now," Kix assured her. "General, have you spoken to Commander Cody yet?"
General Kenobi sighed and tugged mournfully at his beard. "I tried, but I could sense that he didn't want me there. I cannot be upset that he blames me for the 212th's part in this tragedy. I blame myself, too."
"Sir, I have never known a commander to look up to their general more than Cody does to you. He needs some time, but he knows the only one to blame for this mess is Krell." He thought for a moment. "Can you find someone to relieve Admiral Yularen?"
"On the bridge?" Kenobi asked, surprised. "I likely could. May I ask why?"
"He isn't a clone, but he isn't a Jedi. He's a member of the GAR who many of the men look up to. His presence may help them heal. If he's willing, of course."
"Of course," General Kenobi agreed, leaving the medbay at a fast pace.
"Is there anything I can do?" Commander Tano asked.
"Can you order some of the food droids from the mess to deliver supplies to the men?" Kix asked. "They'll need food and water, but hot drinks like caf and tea will help with the shock. Admiral Yularen and the Jedi could help with the delivery side of things. It's a good reason to see and be seen by the men without making them feel invaded by the Jedi."
"I'll do that," Ahsoka told him, spinning decisively on her heel. "Thanks, Kix!"
Before she left the medbay, she paused by the doors to look back at him with her expressive face free of the typical Jedi mask. "I'm glad you're okay, Kix. I really am."
"Me too, Commander," he murmured, but she was long gone.
With a nearly empty medbay, Kix fixed his attention on Dogma. The trooper was huddled in the last bed, his wrists fastened together in front of him in a pair of well-used binders. He stared blankly ahead, giving no reaction even when Kix approached him. His normally intelligent face was slack and his right shoulder gave an occasional twitch.
"Dogma," he said softly. There was no response, and Kix repeated the trooper's name without hope of him answering.
He took a bioscan of Dogma's current state, unsurprised to find that his blood pressure and pulse were high. "Dogma, it's Kix. Can you hear me?"
After a long moment, Dogma repeated tonelessly, "...hear me?"
"Come on, vod," Kix cajoled. "I need you to come back here. Come back, Dogma. You're here, you're safe."
"...safe," Dogma echoed. His brows crinkled slightly, the minor shift seeming tremendously important with his lack of other response. "Not safe. Never safe."
"You are safe," Kix insisted. "You're safe, Dogma. You've made us all safe. No more Krell. You can come back now."
"Krell…" Dogma's eyes lit with recognition of the name and his entire face crumpled a moment later under the weight of the memories. "I killed him. I killed a Jedi."
"A traitor," Kix said firmly. "He wasn't a Jedi. No Jedi would have done what he did."
"He was a commanding officer," Dogma replied, sounding almost like his regulation-quoting self if not for the thickness in his voice. "I killed a commanding officer. The regs say I'll be court-martialed and found guilty. They'll either execute me or lock me away for the rest of my life. I'm not sure which is worse."
Kix rested a hand on Dogma's shoulder, unable to keep it from tightening as he felt the trembling in his brother's body. "You did what you had to do. Not only for us, but for all of the Republic. Krell was a traitor and he deserved to die. Should have died slower, if you ask me. You were too merciful."
Dogma gave a slight chuckle at that, though there was no joy in his eyes. "That's an interesting take on the situation. I don't think the GAR will follow your logic."
"I'll talk to whoever needs to hear me - anyone who will listen," Kix told him fiercely. "You took out a threat. That's what we're trained to do. You're a hero. You should be given a medal, not face a court-martial."
"Even the other men are avoiding me," Dogma said with a shake of his head.
Kix laughed. "Because you killed that ori'dush shabuir? Most of the men want to shake your hand."
Dogma laughed, but the sound quickly turned to stifled sobs and he began to tremble uncontrollably. When Kix was unable to get another response from Dogma and the trooper's blood pressure began soaring to dangerous levels, he administered a mild sedative and waited by the bedside until Dogma's scans showed normal levels once more.
After Dogma fell into a drug-assisted sleep, Kix moved quickly to his desk, opened a link to the holonet, and proceeded to abuse his medical access privileges.
"Kix?" Senator Amidala asked, her confused frown evident even through the unstable connection of the hololink. "Anakin told me what happened on Umbara. I am so sorry-"
"Sorry, ma'am, I don't have much time," Kix interrupted. Thankfully, the senator didn't seem offended. "I have the trooper here who finally put an end to General Krell. He's facing a court-martial and they'll most likely rule against him. I don't want to put you in an uncomfortable position, but is there anything you can do?"
Senator Amidala fell silent, and Kix appreciated that she was taking the time to fully consider his question. "The Senate and the Grand Army of the Republic don't operate jointly, but I think I can find a way to bring this to the Senate's attention since there are clone rights bills on the floor. I will need a few details and I'll warn you that it'll become a publicity circus. Is your trooper all right with that?"
"It's better than death, ma'am," Kix said firmly.
"That is true," she agreed softly. "Send me a file with as much information as you can and I'll put together something. The Senate won't meet tomorrow, but that should give me enough time to get something ready. When will you land on Coruscant?"
"A little less than a standard week from now."
"That should be plenty of time, then."
Senator Amidala's confidence was enough to ease the burden on Kix's shoulders. "Thank you, Senator. I can't tell you what this will mean to Dogma - to all of the men, really."
"It's the right thing to do, Kix," she said, voice filled with conviction. "You and your brothers deserve consideration as thinking beings as well as for the work you do in service of the Republic. We'll give Dogma the best possible chance that we can."
"I couldn't ask for anything more," Kix told her fervently.

~~
~
His heart may keep beating the first time he pulls the trigger, but his life ends then.
~~~~~
He can only remember flashes of what happened that day, little snippets of the moment his world finally crumbled. The shout of his brothers, the shaky words of a dying vod, the recoil of his blaster.
He can’t remember, but no one lets him forget.
~~~~~
It starts out small, at first. Murmurs and whispers from visiting battalions and the shiniest clones in the Guard.
Murderer.
Brother-killer.
It’s followed by cold looks, by orders followed to the bare minimum, by shoves and tripped-up feet as he walks in the halls.
He manages to take it all without flinching, until the day one brother sneers back at him and calls him CC-1010.
“You’ve no right to a name, to call yourself a vod, 1010.”
The words fall from the lips of a drunk 501st trooper the Guard had picked up for disorderly conduct. Fox leaves his cell without a word to inform Rex that he has a wayward trooper.
~~~~~
Rex finds him in his office. He signs a form to collect his man, and leaves Fox with a brutal right hook and cracked jaw.
Stone finds Fox hours later sitting with his head in his hands and his back against his desk, mumbling about how he deserved every bit of it.
~~~~~
It’s no surprise the Chancellor finds out.
His words, while sympathetic on the surface, leave oily trails in Fox’s mind. They find his cracks and fill them with poison, saying how sorry he is to hear of Fox’s recent difficulties, but neither side can be blamed. The troopers, who are such basic, animalistic creatures that they would attack one of their own, or Fox, for completing his sworn duty to defend the Republic.
Fox can only stand there and listen to it all—
~~~~~
He leaves the office with a hazy mind, not truly recalling the events of the meeting, but feeling more beaten down than before.
~~~~~
She is the only good thing in his life.
Riyo holds him protectively in her arms as he shakes under the weight of it all, despite her being much smaller.
She accepts him despite not knowing what’s wrong. He can’t spill all his burdens onto her. They’re his to bear, to continue to roll up this incline even if they slip from his fingers before he reaches the top. This is his punishment, not hers.
He’s failed her, even if she refuses to hear him say such a thing.
He shouldn’t be near her. Shouldn’t let her touch him. She’s so pure, so precious— he can’t let his sins taint her light.
She says she loves him, but he knows that’s not true. A thing like him isn’t something anyone can love.
He allows himself to kiss her forehead one last time before he leaves while she sleeps.
~~~~~
There is a call to 79’s to break up a fight on his patrol. When he and his squad arrive, it is to find the matter at hand was him. One of his Corries stood up for him, and it was all downhill from there.
Fox remains outside while his squad handles it. If he goes in, he knows he’ll only make things worse.
All he ever does is make things worse.
He looks up as an armored figure approaches him. He doesn’t have time to register anything about them, other than it’s unmistakably a fellow clone trooper, when their blaster is drawn and a searing pain shoots through his shoulder. He falls to his knees as the shot is followed by two more: one to his right hand and one to his left thigh.
He’s left on the cold ground.
~~~~~
He comes to in the medbay. He wishes he hadn’t.
What a waste of resources. It could have been used on someone else.
“You’re awake.”
He turns his head to find Wolffe sitting beside him. His face is unreadable, but his brown eye burns with fury.
Fox doesn’t say anything. He simply returns to staring blankly at the ceiling.
“Vod—”
“Don’t call me that.” His voice is raspy, unused. When is the last time he spoke to anyone outside of his shifts? “I’m not a brother. Not anymore.”
Wolffe is silent. Maybe he’ll leave him alone now.
“Who did this to you, Fox?”
His smile is like broken glass. “Didn’t you hear? I did, of course.”
“We both know you didn’t shoot yourself.”
“Not yet.”
Wolffe’s growl draws Fox’s gaze again. “That’s not karking funny, Fox.”
“You know what is funny?” Fox laughs brokenly. “That you’re here. Rex broke my jaw. Bly blocked all transmissions from me. Cody was in a conference call and didn’t once acknowledge me. Just said, ‘Commander of the Guard.’” His eyes are tired as he meets Wolffe’s. “Bet you’re here so you can tell them they still have a disappointment in the batch.”
Wolffe sighs as he runs a hand down his face. “Fox... I lost a battalion of men. All of them, except for two. I heard them cry out to me as they were slaughtered one by one in what should have been their saviors. I listened to them scream as they were murdered, as they listened and watched their brothers die around them.” Here he leans forward, his hand reaching up to clench Fox’s uninjured shoulder firmly. “I can hear your screams too, Fox’ika. I will not sit and do nothing as I listen to a brother dying. Not again.”
Fox flinched and tore his eyes away from his batchmate, finding a fixed point over his shoulder to stare at instead. “You’re too late.”
~~~~~
The Chancellor calls for him once he’s released.
Fox idly wonders how broken he truly is when he finds himself back in his office, not able to coherently remember if he ever made it to the meeting.
~~~~~
Only his fellow commanders in the Guard interact with him now outside of what is required for duties.
A part of him wonders why Stone keeps asking when he last ate. It doesn’t matter anyways.
He’s not sure why Thire counts the hours he’s been awake. At least in the waking world, he can bury himself in work. When asleep, he’s left to the mercies of his ghosts, the ones that whisper that his time is far overdue, that he’s only causing more problems being alive.
He knows they’re right. It’s only a matter of time, he supposes.
~~~~~
So he writes.
He’s never been one for writing, thanks to all the reports he’s had to draft, edit, review and sign off on. But... he’s a clone. He’ll have nothing left to his name anyways besides these words. It’s selfish, yes, but it’s all he has left.
So he writes.
He writes to Rex about all the memories he has of them whispering quietly at night on Kamino, dreaming about their lives when they finally got to see the stars. He wonders where it all went wrong— probably somewhere at the start. He tells him that he’s one of the best commanders out there, even if he never formally received the rank yet.
He writes to Bly, saying that while he isn’t worthy of love... Bly is. He shouldn’t let it slip through his fingers.
He writes to Cody, outlining the lack of memories he has about the Chancellor. How he thinks he’s investigated something, but can never remember what. Files mysteriously erasing. Men sent on missions that didn’t exist. His blaster— it should’ve been set to stun. He gives him one last mystery to solve, knowing Cody won’t accept any weak, mundane attempt of an apology.
He writes to Ponds, even though he’s long gone. It’ll go to his general, because Fox knows his brother still lives on in him. He asks if he’ll be forgiven, if there’s an after where they’re all waiting for him. He asks if they’d welcome him, even if he’s broken and can’t remember what he’s done anymore. He says he’s glad Ponds had a General who cared, because he was glad that his brothers were taken care of even if the universe punished him with the Chancellor’s oily words in return.
He writes to Stone and Thorn and Thire, and says he’s sorry he couldn’t help them. He tried to keep the weight off their backs as long as he could... and he now had to pay the price. He tells them he’s proud of them.
...He writes to Riyo, his starlight, the one who taught him of a different type of love. He says he’s sorry. He hopes she keeps shining bright for everyone around her to see. He tells her how every smile, every laugh, every crinkle of her eyes in happiness gave him something to keep living for, if only for a while. She’s the most precious thing in the world, and he’s sorry to have ever burdened her with his inconsequential self.
He writes to Wolffe.
Well, he stares at the datapad for countless minutes, and then he writes to Wolffe.
He gives Wolffe every bit of spark left within him. He gives him every happy memory, every trying moment, ever second of calm he’s ever had. He tells Wolffe how everything went wrong, how his mind had betrayed him just as he’d betrayed his brothers, how he didn’t know who he was anymore. He tells Wolffe of the reason behind each scar and tattoo on his body, how his hair had become peppered with gray, how he’d done his best to live up to the name Wolffe had given him.
He thanks Wolffe for being his vod. He tells him he’s proud, and to keep fighting.
~~~~~
When he’s finished, he sends his words out across the galaxy. Maybe one of them will read his final thoughts, and keep him alive in theirs, even if he doesn’t deserve it.
He sets the datapad on his desk and reaches for his blaster.
The cold durasteel against his temple is fitting, he feels. It matches the emptiness within him.

Right Here
you are secret cupid for: @lonelinessisadisease / @twinning-the-shit-out-of-you ( @starwarsfandomfests )
Prompts: Romantic or platonic: Gift-giving but someone (or more than one) has never had a gift before, holding hands as an act of rebellion, end-of-war kiss and/or celebration
A/N: I debated pretty heavy if I wanted to do Codywan or the Bad Batch, but I really love CodyWan so much and I never get to write for them, so I hope you like it! Happy Valentines Day!
Obi-Wan stared at the small package sitting on his bed. He was exhausted beyond belief; this last mission had drained him completely. He was thankful for the time off he and the 212th had received. Except there wasn’t enough time for the men to make it back to Coruscant for a break, so they opted to just take a much needed rest on The Negotiator.
Why was there a small package on his bed? For a moment he couldn’t get himself to move his arms to pick up the box. It looked like a gift; it was neatly wrapped in blue in paper with a carefully tied bow on top. Could it be some sort of trap? Who would take that much care to trap him? What is-
“It’s a gift.” Obi-Wan slowly turned around to see Cody leaning against his door. Cody looked equally exhausted as he walked into Obi-Wan’s room. Cody picked up the small box and held it out to Obi-Wan. “I saw it on our last relief mission, and I thought you may like it.” Cody said, suddenly becoming bashful. Obi-Wan smiled wholeheartedly as Cody’s cheeks turned red.
The two had become closer as time went on and even though Obi-Wan hated that the Jedi had become soldiers in a war but knowing and being close to Cody made it all worth it. For a moment Obi-Wan allowed himself to imagine an after the war with Cody. No Jedi order. No Grand Army of the Republic. Just the two of them. Obi-Wan gently took the small box from Cody, their fingers just barely brushing.
“I can’t even remember the last time someone gave me a gift. It would have been before I was taken” Obi-Wan mused, Cody let out a laugh.
“I think General Skywalker counts all the times he’s “helped” us out on the field a gift.”
“Oh yes, Anakin sure does believe he is the forces gift to us all, doesn’t he?” The two shared a laugh as Obi-Wan sat next to Cody. The two fell into a comfortable silence as they both looked at the gift. Cody nudged Obi-Wan with his shoulder.
“Well, are you going to open it?” Cody mused, causing Obi-Wan to frown and look away from the gift and Cody.
“Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments, emotional or physical…” Obi-Wan sighed and looked at Cody’s honey-colored eyes. “Maybe it’s the war, but I’m beginning to question a lot of their teachings.” He whispered, hoping Cody would catch his meaning.
“The long necks taught us something similar, a lot of the men think it’s bantha fodder and I don’t blame them. We were made to fight a war and that’s it. And when the war is over, then what? Are they going to take us all out? Are we going to just be running drills until the next war?” Cody’s voice started to raise. “Obi-Wan, I don’t want to be considered someone’s property. I don’t want-“
“Cody, you won’t I promise.” Obi-Wan interrupted, stunned for a moment by his promise he had no way to guarantee but regardless, it seemed to calm Cody down for the moment. “Who knows, maybe we’ll both leave our stations after the war.” Obi-Wan pondered, allowing himself one moment of imagining himself and Cody living a simple life. No more politics, no more fighting, no more wondering if this day will be their last. Just the two of them.
“That would be nice.” Cody whispered, emotions catching his voice. Slowly, Obi-Wan began to unwrap the gift. He had to take a few deep breaths to keep himself from unraveling in front of Cody.
Inside the box was a small teacup. The cup itself was made out of some sort of clay that had been painted a faint orange and blue and then had designs carved into the cup. Upon closer inspection Obi-Wan noticed that the design did not seem to be random and in fact there were little lightsaber hilts and clone trooper helmets hidden within the other shapes and squiggles. Obi-Wan didn’t know a lot about ceramic art, but he could tell by the intricate design it had taken whomever a long time.
“The commission price was high, I wanted to get you a whole set, but I didn’t have enough.” Cody whispered, he was nervously fidgeting, believing Obi-Wan didn’t like the gift. It was just one measly teacup, Obi-Wan must’ve had at least 5 aboard The Negotiator alone. Obi-Wan deserved a full set and then some. All the good he did for Cody and the other men under his command. He knew he should’ve gone with something better, he should’ve-
“Cody, I…I’m not sure what to say. This is beautiful.” Obi-Wan breathed out. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the small cup. “Thank you.” Cody smiled and looked at Obi-Wan. He wanted to remember this moment, Obi-Wan’s checks were slightly blushed, his mouth slightly opened in awe, and his eyes had unshed tears. “I…I don’t have anything for you.” He said finally looking over at Cody.
“No worries, General. I have everything I could ever want right here.”

Oh, it's that little Bonteri shit again. Wonder if we're at any time gonna talk about his mom's support for Care Bear genocide or the hilarity of her whining about her husband killed by clones (people with no rights)?
Star Wars is doing that funny thing again where we are TECHNICALLY portraying a democracy but it populates it with characters that run on dynastic inheritance; this Bonteri brat is LITERALLY just Some Fuckin Kid to a bunch of politicians. His mom being a politician is completely irrelevant to his qualifications to be here. But, y'know, The Drama
"We can't just let them take him! He'll be killed!" well maybe if you didn't let RANDOM FUCKING CHILDREN into critical negotiations...
Hang on, why did the droids drag him away anyway? This is being hosted on Mandalore BECAUSE it's neutral. That means that Mandalore's security is supposed to be enforcing the rules.
Am I gonna have to put up with comphet again?
Wait, he ACTUALLY has the title of senator? Even though he's like fourteen? How--ah, what the fuck ever
I do like how Ahsoka has these consistent little...gremlin animations
The backs of these purple senate guards are identical to clone trooper backs (rectangular pack with two lines and a circle on it, cylinder in small of back) because mold reuse is the true king of design
This is legit How You Can Tell how much a series's sense of design leans towards the toyetic; characters designed around being able to share the same mold for major body parts. You also see this a lot in Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, where goons will tend to have a copied chestpiece with unique helmet.
Is this sword logo on the chairs Mandalore's? This ship doesn't look all that art deco, and it was being run by R2, and the senate guards were outside it
This kid is not very smart huh
"There is another option" is it terrorism?
"Like [the Republic] helped my mother?!" you do remember that your mother was not part of the Republic and killed by DOOKU without any chance for the Republic to do anything, right...?
Like, this is a perfectly normal way to process grief but I'd appreciate it if someone pointed out how irrational it is
"a group who are noble and allied with my cause" ah yes, terrorism
How much longer til this little shit dies
[fake shock] Oh my goodness, terrorists!
Ahsoka's winter hood with the montral pockets and little puffballs is really fucking cute
There's often an implication/outright statement in fic that Mandalorian armor is androgynous but that is definitely not the case with what I'm looking at
There's not a whole lotta consistency with Mandalorian names, is there? "Satine" and "Bo-Katan" don't sound like they came from the same planet
Why do I have to deal with a fake relationship plot with Ahsoka and some walking, talking spoiled milk rather than literally anyone fucking else
.............so Bo-Katan's a lesbian
>Mandalorians are bullying droids and this is supposed to be ominous regardless of the fact that our heroes bully droids 24/7
WHATEVER
Death Watch doesn't recognize Ahsoka? Wasn't she pretty publicly involved in ruining their plans?
"Tell your woman to leave us" oh these guys sound VERY egalitarian and not sexist at ALL
Love how these guys are bragging about having Dooku's location as if that information isn't several hours outdated by now and Dooku isn't a guy who moves around a lot
"We are battle droids no longer. Now we are slaves." NOW? Oh, whatever
These guys look vaguely Mongolian? The girl's facial decos made me think Mirialan for a second, but I think they're new. In a very weird cultural appropriation boomerang, this dude's hat looks like Amidala's
"You have taken our women" ...oh, I was not expecting the rape implications to be that, uh, not-implied
So traditionalist Mandos are DEFINITELY pretty fucking misogynist
>there's not even an animation of Ahsoka taking her coat off, it just vanishes between frames
Goddamn, this really does drag when everything that's going to happen is so blatantly choreographed
I'm tired of Deus Ex Artoo
What kind of shitty terrorists don't even bother to take a ship that was parked on their front lawn?
"You know I can't go with you" LITERALLY why??? He hasn't committed any crimes by Republic standards. He's got valuable info on a terrorist group. He has similar goals to Ahsoka and he's just proven himself quite fucking incompetent on his own.
"We could try to change things from the inside" LITERALLY WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? Dooku is a SITH, there is no "changing from the inside" with that shit!
"We make a pretty good team, don't we?" No

Summary:
Whumptober 2021 Day 1 - ALL TRUSSED UP AND STILL NOWHERE TO GO
“You’ll have to let go” / barbed wire / bound
Anakin was used to being captured. The way his master was determined to spring every trap had resulted in it being a common occurrence in their apprenticeship.
He was confident Obi Wan would come to rescue him. After all, he always had. The Force Suppression cuffs however, they were new.
If he was honest with himself, Anakin had got used to being captured by this point. Obi Wans mantra that the best way to negotiate a trap was to spring it had gotten the two of them into this kind of situation too many times before. It had happened too many times to be a novelty.
Obi Wan would be along to break him out soon. He always did. He wasn’t worried.
The Force Suppression cuffs clasped around his wrists though, he was not used to them.
He didn’t know if a new scientist had joined the separatist cause and developed the technology, or someone had defected from the order bringing it with them. It couldn’t be Dooku. If he had wanted to use them surely he would have introduced them when the war had first started. Anakin stared at the blank walls of the cell.
He hoped Obi Wan wouldn’t take too long to reach him. Experience had proved that lone captivity was nothing if not boring.
***
His captors seemed intent on ignoring him. The only real contact he was getting with any sentient being was with the guard that brought his rare meals. He never talked. Never responded to Anakins attempts to engage him, whether through his brand of humour or insults to prompt him into a fight. Nothing worked. He was craving some kind of human interaction. Anything that could add interest to his day.
Anakin had no windows in the cell. He couldn’t tell exactly how much time had past but counting meals made him think it had been at least a standard week. Maybe more. His arms were hurting from the cuffs, his shoulders stiff from holding them in the same position. What was keeping Obi Wan? He had never taken more than a few days to come after him before.
Doubt crossed his mind. Maybe Obi Wan was only willing to come after him when he was his Padawan. Maybe now he had been Knighted he didn’t think it was worth it. He wasn’t his responsibility anymore…
No! Anakin thought. He would come. He was just spiralling from the lack of conversation. He never could deal well being left alone with his thoughts Obi Wan would come.
He would.
He had to.
A clanking sound echoed outside the room. Anakin scurried towards the hatch in the door. Maybe today would be the day the guard would crack. The Dura-steel slid back to reveal two mechanical arms.
Roger Roger!” The droid droned before withdrawing.
Anakins heart dropped. There went any hopes of a conversation.
***
If you asked Anakin the whole charade was his captor’s fault.
It was them who had decided to leave him alone for so long. He could only be trusted for a short amount of time before he came out with some kind of scheme.
The problem was that his well planned escape attempt had not worked.
Not in the slightest.
He hadn’t made even two corridors until he had run into a patrol. He had not realised how much he had come to rely on his connection to the force. It had covered up holes in his plans before.
Not that the quality of the plan was his fault. It was the separatists. The ones who had left him alone with nothing to do but think. And Obi Wan. For leaving him here.
The droids that dragged him back through the hallways of the ship didn’t seem interested in whose blame it was though. They didn’t seem interested in his comfort either. His legs had given out after the injuries he had suffered in his recapture had got the better of him. But the droids didn’t slow, continuing to drag him along the floor
They weren’t heading back to his cell Anakin thought. These corridors were different. Darker. They were going deeper into the ship. Where could they be taking him? Maybe at last he would be able to work out exactly why he was being held here. At least that would mean he got some answers.
The door slid open before him with a mechanical beep revealing a bed surrounded by mechanical equipment.
The whole room had a disconcerting hum. As if it was alive with electricity. He was sure if he could feel the force it would have felt dark.
He subconscious reached for his bond, feeling a deep pang of loneliness when he found nothing in its place.
He was wrestled into the bed and strapped down
This was not going to be good.
***
Electric shocks jolted into his body.
“Tell us,” the masked man growled. “The plans for the defence of Christophsis !”
The jolts stopped and Anakin felt his body sag.
He hurt. All over. He desperately tried to conceal it. He ran over the Jedi code in his head. He couldn’t let his emotions show.
He was serene.
He was peaceful.
He felt no pain.
Except he did. He really, really did.
He kept his mouth shut. He was not going to risk his troopers lives by revealing anything. And Obi Wan. His master was due on Christophsis. He wouldn’t condemn him by telling them anything. Even though he hadn’t come for him.
He wasn’t coming Anakin realised. He was going to be left here alone. He’d probably die here.
“Very well,” The man said. His mouth contorted into a smile through the mask. “We will have to do this the hard way.”
He jolted the switch down and Anakins body ignited.
He couldn’t see.
He couldn’t hear.
He couldn’t feel anything apart from the pain coursing through him.
His mouth was open but he couldn’t even hear himself scream.
The world was white. The world was pain.
Let me die he begged to himself just let me die rather than live through this.
The electricity shut off and the world slowly returned to him.
The man was hunched over him now. His face was barely above his.
“Christophsis Jedi. Tell us about Christophsis and this will all be over.”
I don’t know!” Anakin sobbed. “I don’t know anything about Christophsis. I didn’t even know you were interested in it .”
The man’s smile seemed to get even crueller.
“I don’t believe you Jedi. See we have sources that suggest you are one of the key Generals for the Christosphis campaign. I guess I must try harder to break you.”
Sources Anakin thought distantly was their a spy in the order. But before he had the chance to swell on it further his world became pain again.
Why didn’t you come? He thought desperately before he lost his grasp on consciousness. Obi Wan, why did you chose to leave me here?
***
Anakin didn’t look up when the door opened. The door opening only resulted in pain now. Maybe if he pretended to not look the door wouldn’t have opened.
That his torture wasn’t about to resume.
Not that he wasn’t in pain now. Ever since his escape attempt, he had been restrained even within the room, his hands cuffed on the wall above his head.
His arms hurt. The only break they ever got was when he was taken away to that chamber, if you could even call that rest. He was so tired. His hopes of rescue had almost completely gone.
He still had faith in his Master. He had to. It was the only thing he had left. He just wanted it all to be over.
He could see an electric blue light ignite behind his eyelids.
He knew that light.
He was sure.
His eyes flew open.
Obi Wan was standing in the doorway.
He felt relief course through him. He didn’t know how it would play out. He didn’t know how they’d get out. But his Master was here now. That meant everything would be fine.
Obi Wan moved forward quickly, lightsaber swinging straight through the cuffs. Anakin felt his weight give way, the pressure finally released from his arms. He fell to the floor. Or he would have done it if he wasn’t caught. Obi Wan lowered him gently, hand caressing his face.
“Dear One, what did they do to you?”
Anakin opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted by the rush as the force returned to him.
He could feel the hum again, the way the world seemed to speak to him. He reached for the bond, clumsy and desperate but he grasped hold of it as soon as he found it.
He felt Obi Wans worry.
He felt the sense of hopelessness Obi Wan had suffered.
He felt the determination Obi Wan had felt.
“You looked for me.” Anakin croaked. “You didn’t stop looking for me.”
Obi Wan looked devastated. “Of course not Padawan. I would never stop looking for you.”
He glared at the cuffs. “Those, abominations meant it took far longer, but I would never…” Obi Wan stared into Anakin’s eyes “never leave you behind Padawan.”
“Am not a Padawan.” Anakin tried to joke.
Obi Wan didn’t crack a smile. “You will always be my Padawan dear one. I will always care for you.”
Anakin smiled, feeling himself being lifted into Obi Wans arms.
“Knew you’d come for me.” He murmured. “They told me you wouldn’t but knew they would.”
“What did they do?” Obi Wans voice was flat. Carefully controlled.
“Electricity…” Anakin said. He was fighting off the darkness again. He desperately fought himself, trying to keep awake. “They wanted to know about Christophsis. Know about you. Couldn’t let them know that Master.”
Obi Wans expression was dark. “They won’t get you again Padawan. I swear.”
Anakin felt a pulse of reassurance as he fell back into unconsciousness.
He was safe.
Obi Wan would protect him.
He was safe.
