Good evening, denizens of Radioapple nation!

I think it's time for a new fic recommendation list. I have been reading some series you recommended and some others that I found on tmblr. My tbr is still shamefully long, you people need to stop being so talented, I can't keep up with all the content.

In any case, here goes my rec list for anyone that is interested. These fics are 100% unadultered radioapple, some sfw, some nsfw, but all of them with good aroace-spec representation and fantastic characterizations.

Without further ado, here we go:

• OSaS, by @morningstarwrites: no need for introductions. This is, I believe, the most famous fic of the fandom. So many hijinks, so much fluff, such character development, and a lot of lovely bickering. It's still going, and we are now entering the 6th arch, with promises of turning up the heat (so far, very much sfw and cute).

• De santos y pecadores, by Sun_Haworth: this is the Spanish version of Of Saints and Sinners (yes, the fic is this famous, it has translations). Very good translation work, I have to say, so check it out if you are a Spanish speaker or if you want to practice your Spanish!

• Lucid Dreams of New Orleans, by @radiaurapple: a "finished" one, with promises of more epilogues and some snippets to come. This is one of the loveliest, most heartwrenching fics I've read of the fandom. Pseudo-human Alastor AU, beautifully written, it will entrance you. You will long for New Orleans like you never knew you could. A must read, for sure. Sfw with the exception of this (highly recommended) snippet, 3 a.m. (Bonus track). I'd also recommend reading A LULLABY FOR MR SHINGLES of you are looking to be creeped out and for a good laugh.

• We should've been enemies, by @soot-and-salt: the gothic horror romance fic you didn't know you needed. It's almost finished, and it captures the creepy dark atmosphere so well. This one is nsfw and very sexy, if I may say so. The writing flows really good, and you can't miss their one-shots: I shine only with the light you gave me, such gorgeous premise and prose, it's a human Alastor AU; and Transubstantiation, based on a fabulous CMV, very gorey and ethereal, it bewitched me.

• All changed, changed utterly, by @tollingreminiscentbells: a finished one, nsfw. Human Alastor AU at the beginning, we follow an alternative narrative in which Lucifer and Alastor met each other before Hell. It is SUCH a gorgeous fic, very nicely written, with so much fluff and angst and character development. Domestic and romantic, without losing each characters essence. I binged it in a couple of days. A must read for any radioapple fan, for sure.

• Lucifer and his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad relationship, by @keelywolfe: this is another radioapple stapple, and rightfully so. Nsfw and still on going, a long read that's very worth it. The writing? Incredible. The evolution of every character? Astounding. The plot? THICK. An amazingly hooking fic, with so much fluff, hurt, confort, love, hate, secrets, drama and smut. A MUST, no doubt. You can also read the short Radioapple Standalones, they are a cute, dramaless and sexy read to rest from the chaos of the main series.

• Bedtime rituals to try out before the next angelic war, by @miribalis: finished and sfw. In this one, we find ourselves with a tricky hotel room and many sheanigans involving insomnia, managerial duties and feelings. Very very cute, writing on point and captures a cozy atmosphere that few do. Another binge-read for me, I just couldn't get enough domesticity from them.

• Blood, water and other bonds, by Minimalistless: nsfw two-shot. If you are looking for some self-indulgent radioapple smut, here is your fic. This one is really well written and fun. Worth giving it a shot.

• loml, by @radioapple-heathen: sfw and still going. A very cute fic, with some really angsty moments and pet snake sheanigans. Alastor and Lucifer discover they have many things in common, but their rivalry never fades... for now.

• Stolen Moments, by @mothballmilkshake: I'm still going through this series, but so far so very good. Nsfw and another very worthy long read. It's fun, it's cute, we see the development of their characters and their relationship, and so far it's becoming another favourite! Definitelly worth seeing how this continues unfolding.

• Strange Appetites, by Gotllphi: Nsfw, gorey (diegetic gore, I believe they described it) and still going. Currently on hiatus, but the author has the story all planned out and will resume writing as soon as they can! My first radioapple read and still on my top list. Human Alastor AU, with some very cute teen Charlie included here and there. The plot is highly adicting, the development of their relationship so much so, and the writing is fantastic. Give it a shot to encourage your local fic writers not to give up!

• Unhealthy Competition, by @theaffablescamp: I have to catch up with this one too, but it is, overall, fun, sexy and intriguing. Nsfw, still going, SO many hooking plot points, SO many hijinks. The radioapples navigate their personal issues while trying to understand each other. A good, entertaining read.

• Eat your heart out, by @seducipher: modern human Alastor AU, nsfw, gorey and unfinished. Very cool atmosphere and premise, good writing and tantalizing. I also binge read this one. Sexy and intriguing, can't wait to see how this one continues.

• @notherpuppet 's AUs: I usually put this one at the end bc it's not a fic per se, but the My Deer Nanny AU is another fandom classic, rightfully so. Fun, cute, fun, domestic, fun, heartmelting... it has everything a radioapple fan needs! They are also in a queer-platonic relationship, which I think is really refreshing and good for their characters. Don't miss their other AUs, art and short-comics. They are pure GOLD.

Also, as I should, have your read Primavera en Nueva Orleans? A great fic in Spanish about Alastor's last Mardi Gras, you should take a look, it's nice 👀

a very silly highschool au chatfic. crack with minimal angst here and there to carry some plot along, but it's very low-stakes. really just something i write for fun to wind down. perfect if ur looking for some good ol crack to turn your brain off to!

waiting for godot

a three-part fic exploring mia and diego's story in ace attorney - before, during, and after his coma. it goes into the background of their relationship and dives into godot's mentality after waking up and finding out about what happened to mia. angst with a somewhat bittersweet ending, canon compliant.

SOME OLDER FICS

Object Class: Fey - completed. an ace attorney scp au, very miego focused with some light background narumitsu. does not represent my current quality or style of writing, but i still enjoy the story a lot and am proud of the fic as a whole!

Time Paradox at The Turnabout - discontinued. a time travel fic of sorts. various different versions of various different characters travel to one time period, hijinks ensue. not that well-written and was never completed, but you might enjoy the concept!

FNAF

THE SCRIPTVERSE

the scriptverse is a trilogy of scripts + a prose prequel which seeks to retell fnaf lore completely. it sticks to canon in some parts but deviates in others, so it will surprise you even if you know the lore inside out! i made my own changes to the timeline, mixed and matched stuff from the movie, books and games... overall, just a big revamp of the whole thing, all told through movie scripts!

the series is made up of:

MR AFTON, a william-focused first part retelling the missing children incident

MR SCHMIDT [act 1], a michael-focused sequel retelling william's trial shortly after

MR SCHMIDT [act 2], a massive third part to the series which deals with the fallout of the murder and the trial, michael meeting jeremy, ghosts showing up in the pizzeria, and michael finding out he has a sister he didn't know about! crazy stuff!

mr emily & ms schmidt, a prose prequel to the series which focuses on how henry, william and his wife clara met

WYNNCRAFT

warm hands, cold hearts, gentle smiles (also holy shit is that bak'al over there?)

a fic which focuses on exploring the dynamics between the four twain brothers as kids + includes an appearance from wynncraft's favorite bitch boy. also, i made theorick less of a bitch by explaining WHY canon theo is such a bitch!

my legacy in death, your legacy in ice, our legacy in blood

a follow-up of sorts to the above fic, focusing on mael having to help nesaak post-theorick freezing it. the second half of the fic looks at the time mael spent training bob. all around lots of angst, some hurt/comfort in the second part, and a very, very bittersweet ending.

requiem

currently ongoing!!! an x reader fic that has you, the player, take on the role of the villain. you team up with bak'al to take revenge on someone who has wronged you. the fic, and even its description, contains BIG spoilers for wynncraft's late-game quests, most notably a journey further and a hunter's calling. it also explores some dark and uncomfortable themes, please refer to all relevant warnings!! read at your own risk!

PALADINS

a city of self-fulfilling prophecies [paladins superhero au]

currently ongoing!!! a paladins superhero au that i've been putting together for years, and am now finally writing! most champions will be included as characters, with maeve, ying and lex as the three protagonists and corvus as the lead villain, alongside evie, cassie & kinessa, lian & rei, octavia and many others as major characters!

SOME OLDER FICS

the scholar loved the scion // and the scion loved the scholar, but not in the same way - completed. a short fic exploring a one-sided relationship between lian and rei. hurt, and no comfort!

FAITH

soul of christ (sanctify me)

a short fic which focuses on john and lisa's childhood, with a nice portion of catholic guilt and queer shame on the side (yes i projected onto john. no i am not sorry). very experimental but probably one of my personal fave works ever!!!

X-MEN (movies)

oh, i will ruin you (it's a habit, i can't help it)

a very short cherik one-shot, because they've infected my brain. it's just them flirting and making out tbh. nothing more nothing less. but i'm pretty proud of it!

again and again and again and again

a 5+1 exploring charles' post-first class depression era, from hank's perspective. lots of bitterness, lots of anger, lots of sad feels, and a bitter-sweet comfort ending.

and daddy made a soldier out of me

currently ongoing!!!! the first fic of two in a big xmen au i've been putting together for two months now!! the au itself involves a lot of concepts and combines them to form a more complex retelling of first class, the ten year gap, and dofp. the changes to the story include; - cherik as soulmates - erik raising wanda and pietro, then him and charles raising them together - after the beach, wanda leaves with erik, and pietro stays with charles - the twins grow up apart (and erik doesn't get arrested, so he actually gets to raise wanda) - dofp reunites the family forcefully - angst ensues! - also, a few other mcu characters have been added into the storyline as alternate no powers/human versions to themselves to help with plot stuff. this means the inclusion of wandavision!!

Cogito, Ergo Sum

my own take on the house of m storyline! mainly focused on stephen's perspective of things as he slowly unravels wanda's spell. a way more compassionate take on her side of things, with a sprinkle of ironstrange for the soul~

below you can find all my other fics - these i'm a little less confident in, because they're either older works or discontinued ones.

tommyinnit - dragonborn! - discontinued. dsmp skyrim au, sbi focused, secondary dream team focus. i really loved this fic and writing it but was forced to discontinue due to... stuff(tm). im still very passionate about the story and happy with what i wrote here, so i recommend it if you're into it.

The Between Dreams and Memories Series - discontinued. a complete retelling of the dsmp storyline. was planned to have 3 parts - same as above, forced to discontinue. contains 2 complete fics (part 1 and a spin off) and one unfinished fic (part 2 of the planned trilogy). one of the biggest fics on my account, a product of several years of work, and a very important work for me, even if its quality doesn't hold up. read if you wish!

a house full of serial killers VS the barbie movie starring margot robbie and ryan gosling - completed. a very very stupid creepypasta chatfic oneshot. i wrote it in one sitting because i was bored. it's nothing special, but it's pretty funny!

dance with the devil - completed. a very short dsmp oneshot, focusing specifically on c!niki and c!schlatt. im still pretty happy with how it turned out!

Deserve Better - completed. a pretty badly written who killed markiplier oneshot. darkstache focused. one of the first fics i ever posted!

laughter [anidala] - completed. a short star wars one-shot i wrote for my girlfriend, focusing on ani and padme!

Rants!

Nightmare Polycule: The cursed creation of like. 4 people on a niche fandom discord. Polycule consisting of pretty much every adult character in the series. It's awful and somehow the best thing ever. The potential for both crack and angst is unmatched. The divorced parents energy is OFF THE CHARTS. Marcia realizes she is a morosexual and has a crisis about it. Gringe confronts his prejudices by falling for a no-good wizard. Jillie Djinn is Marcia's ex and also dead and also GHOSTING ON HER COUCH which makes it very hard to bring her boyfriends over. Marcellus tries to be dramatic about the fleetingness of human life (except his) and gets made fun of until he confronts his trauma instead. Sarah and Mrs Gringe are having tea and getting a break from the drama.

Obi wan/grievous: Ok so this is a HUGE crackship and some people are not going to agree but like, Obi-Wan is what comes to mind when you think of the jedi and Grievous hates the jedi as a whole because he believes them to the cause of his mutilation and the suffering of his people, but the jedi are not the ones who did this. Grievous is a pawn in the game of the sith and he doesn't realize that his mind has been altered against his wishes or that he will be disposed of as soon as the war ends. Obi-Wan is a compassionate man and is able to consistently go toe to toe with Grievous, making him a rival Grievous can't help but respect in a weird way (his people are warriors, for all we know, fighting could be a method of flirting to his people yaknow? And obiwan genuinely flirts as a way to throw off his enemies, think of the comedic potential if Obi-Wan didnt realize how MUCH hes been a flirt or if Grevious actually gets flustered by it because obiwan is such a competent fighter and IF ONLY HE WASNT THE ENEMY-) If Obi-Wan knew what happened he would have tried to make amends and help his people, and if Grievous learned that it was Dooku (a former jedi turned sith) who turned him into a monster against his will, he'd probably be willing to team up with Obi-Wan to bring down Dooku and the Sith plans for Galactic domination to avenge and to protect his people, and they would be an absolute powerhouse since they are already familiar with eachothers way of fighting and from a writers point of view its filled with so much potential angst and drama, and hijinks, and even enhances the plot and creates parallels between the two that the franchise has never bothered to make and it has so much potential even if they don't fall in love they could be really good friends/partners/allies and if order 66 goes as planned they would be badass rebels its such an overlooked possible dynamic PLEASE 🥺

omori- do you like psychological horror? plot twists? interesting characters and a LOT and i mean a LOT of fandom angst? then play omori! the game follows the main character sunny and his dreamscape and has multiple endings. you're bound to find a character to love in omori! the game has colorful and quirky art, nuanced and in-depth characters, and a banger soundtrack (with a track by toby fox)! this game is guaranteed to get you emotional. found on steam, nintendo switch, xbox, and ps4/5. tv tropes doesthedogdie

yume nikki- do you like endless exploration, a sense of dread, and simple game mechanics? then play yume nikki! with dozens of dreamscapes to walk through as main character madotsuki and plenty of ominous creatures to come by, its a ball for fans of the unsettling. the game has a dedicated fanbase and a lot of theories piecing together the plot. found on steam. tv tropes doesthedogdie

splatoon- do you like silly games? shooters? squids? then splatoon is for you! boasting 3 games and a lot of history, cool fashion, and banger music, splatoon is a fun game to kill time on. it has fun multiplayer games and a challenging single player campaign. found on nintendo switch (2&3) and wii u (1). tv tropes doesthedogdie

ace attorney- do you like the law? do you like convulted plotlines? do you like plot twists? do you like the lgbt community? then ace attorney is right up your alley! with interesting characters, a barrage of pathetic men, and clues and investigations galore, this visual novel series will captivate you for a long time! theres a main trilogy which follows pheonix wright, a sequel series following apollo justice, and way more! the timeline is pretty long now so it's definitely hard to consume but its entertaining all the way through! various games can be found on 3ds, nintendo switch, and PC. tv tropes doesthedogdie

undertale- do you like quirky characters? theories and lore? discussions that reach far beyond gameplay? then you'll love undertale! following the main character named frisk who falls into a monster-filled underground, the game boasts a masterfully crafted soundtrack, multiple endings, and more which has launched undertale to a large popularity. if you haven't played it, you honestly should. remember sans from the sexyman championship? yeah he's from this. don't think the game is all fun and jokes, by the end its almost guaranteed you'll shed a tear. found on steam, nintendo switch, ps4/5, and xbox. tv tropes doesthedogdie

My Fandom Trumps Hate request fill which seems like it's going to be within the Burning Bright-verse, as well as Various Slices of Life and Outtakes from the Burning Bright-verse: I have a rough mental map of how this plays out into adulthood, and there's a few scenes within the series that would be cool to show from different POV-characters

What I think of as the Super Angst AU, reframing Season 2 and 3 through the lens of Zuko's overwhelming grief over the loss of his ship and crew

stupid incoherent Arthuriana based story ramblings i had to shove somewhere. tbh it’s insane, but funny enough that i thought i’d at least share the ideas.  (brandy bottle knighthood and other classic hijinks, 1/?)

please note this is in no way, shape, or form even trying to pretend to by accurate to the text. this is a crack fic for the sole purpose of good ol’ fashion feel something again entertainment. 

debating on posting/continuing to write this thing based off Arthurian legend. will absolutely be buck wild and only use the most bizarre lore/barest minimum recognisable stuff (half of which is stuff pulled from the Disney vers plot/the one movie i think is just called ‘Arthur’?). like dead-ass pretty much only names and obscure powers. and it is really queer, i mean like pretty much every character is some flavour of LGBTQ+. 

for a general idea of the tone, there are 4 working titles; brandy bottle knighthood and other classic hijinks, the queer antics of the round table rebels, the many tales of the rebel king and his beloved knights, (and finally) a series of increasingly ridiculous happenings centred around the Pen Draig twins roughly coalesced into a maddening but mostly tangible plot. (the last one’s my favourite)

one last point i need to mention, ya’ll cool is we briefly let Kay and Arthur think Ector set them to get fucked (read executed for treason, it’ll make sense later i swear)? absolutely not permanent, i’m a slut redemption arcs, but just for the narrative knife twisting, you know? 76% of this is found family fluff, the angst has to go somewhere. (hurt/comfort drawn out for two chapters. don’t worry, they work it out; ‘Of family and rainstorms’ and ‘The storm breaks, we are safe and warm’. sappy titles, eh? they get worse trust me) stans please don’t hurt me, i’m only doing this bc i love you

-first huge change, Wes is fae. (why? bc i said so.) Uther is fully aware of this and is loving it. “pretty lady and she could rip me apart without even lifting a finger?” 0////0 

(don’t get attached to this tho, they both die like 14 years before the story even starts.)

-unimportant fact #1: wes is like a foot and a half taller than Uther. none of this matters but it’s important to me you know this. okay back the mess of bullet point i called ‘plot relevant’

- royal couple with baby! two actually. yes big change two is Arthur and Morgan are twins and no other siblings. i like them the best, the others can be fae encountered later. maybe.  

-oh, and are like half fae too, i guess. (yay for drawing purposes bc pointy ears and tails! no i didn’t think through how Arthur’s gonna hide these traits for like 14 years, i’ll figure it out later)

-babies arrive, but oh no treason! 

-so the king’s dead now, that’s fun. kingdom get uspered (idk, pick a villain or make one up, all the same. will be referred to as King Man Person or KMP until further notice) 

-newborns get shunted off onto the closest loyal attendants for safe keeping, Wes promptly goes wrathful fae queen, wrecks shit, but gets mortally wounded. 

-she jams Uther’s sword (fancy wedding gift from the lady of the lake) in that churchyard rock, binding it to her bloodline so only the twins can wield it, takes husband’s body into a forest, whereupon she dies and the bodies turn into an oak tree bc magic i guess. 

-kids get pawned off to separate them (think the luke & leia, for their protection kinda thing) . the usual Ector adopts Arthur stuff. Morgan gets raised by the witches of Avalon. 

- time skip and we’re ready to actually start taking plot...

And I wasn't really going to because it feels a bit late now and also I've done quite a few other year in review posts for 2020. But then I got to thinking that it would be really nice to have one of these for each year to look back on and compare, which convinced me. So, here we go!

Total: 4 fics, 113k words

Every one of these fics was written for an event, which, realistically, is the only reason they got finished. I have so many ideas I'm working on all at once, and I came into fandom with a focus on making art, so to actually find the motivation to sit down and write/finish/post a fic was entirely deadline based. And it's a technique I'm sure I will also employ in 2021.

Best/Worst Title?

Well, I've mentioned a few times before that I usually have a title before I have much in the way of a fic concept. I don't really dislike any of the my titles, because they all did exactly what I needed them to do, which was help me focus on what I wanted to accomplish in the fic. Comparatively speaking, though, I can answer this.

Best: Use Your Words - succinct, idiomatic, a book quote/motif that also has the potential to be a spell, does what it says on the tin, is probably what all of us are constantly yelling at Baz and Simon to do throughout the books and the fic itself

(Honorable mention to A Man of Letters because that title forms a perfect heart shape when viewed on mobile on AO3. ❤️)

Worst: At the Top of a Tower, With You - this is also a quote and it fits the fic perfectly, but it is a bit of a mouthful and it has a comma in the middle of it, which, while I love commas, feels a bit off-putting in terms of a title - also, it's always kind of bothered me that it's a Baz WS quote used for a CO-era Lucy POV

Best/worst summary?

Again, I don't really dislike any of my summaries.

Best:

To the Manor Borne: The gang decides to spend Christmas together at Pitch Manor. Romance, hijinks, and holiday cheer ensue.

Anything that lets me use the word hijinks is always good! - it's short and sweet - it does a fair job of setting up the premise for the fic and giving highlights, without giving anything away

Worst: A Man of Letters

I'm not going to include this one because it's so long, I had to cut down the version I posted on tumblr to fit in the AO3 field, which is really why I rank it below my others - it effectively sets up the world of Simon and Baz in Regency England prior to where the story starts, but it is prohibitively long - and it's set up, not summary, so it also loses points for not doing what it purports to do - I could have said exactly what this fic was in one sentence: "Simon and Baz meet at several Regency-appropriate venues over the course of a London season and reflect on their acquaintance in letters", but instead I did the full book jacket version because it was more interesting to me.

Best/Worst First Line?

Oh, this is interesting. I can honestly say that I have no idea where this will go. Going to pull up my docs and find out! Okay, since I only have four fics to consider, and I'm feeling split, I'm going to do two for each. I feel good about my words, but I will say that half of my first lines actually provide information, and the other half are incomplete thoughts. Those were stylistic decisions I made, but when taken alone, it does somewhat limit the effectivness of a sentence when it can't stand without the rest of the paragraph. Perhaps that decision will lure readers in for more?

In the end, we wind up at Pitch Manor. (To the Manor Borne)

Best/Worst Last Line?

Hmm. Okay, again, no idea. Also, a little leery of including last lines for anyone who hasn't read the fics they're from yet. (Tho I guess it's unlikely those people would be reading this😆) But let's see what we've got.

Use Your Words and A Man of Letters have very similar final lines, and both are somewhat spoilery.

Best: The ending of A Man of Letters felt risky to me, in the way that it is formatted and changes tone from the rest of the story. It was something that happened as I wrote it and I loved it. I had no idea if readers would like it, if they would feel like it worked as an ending, but I felt strongly enough about it to let the entire fic hinge on that and I think it really paid off. So, without giving you the actual last line, which is only one word, I'm going to say that one is my best ending.

Worst:

To the Manor Borne: "Carry on, Simon."

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, fewer than you thought, or about what you predicted?

I did not set out to write any fics in 2020. I was supposed to be taking a break from writing. I've been an aspiring novelist for half my life now, and have been going through major ups and downs with my writing. I decided I needed to re-evaluate and figure out if writing was something that was even going to be able to make me happy anymore. The answer is: YES! Just…not original fiction. At the moment. I'm happiest when I can write for the sake of writing and not have to DO something with that writing. Which is why discovering fan fiction was AMAZING!!!! 🥰🥰🥰

To actually answer the question, yes, I wrote more than I thought I would. I also wrote exactly as much as I thought I would, simply because these were all things I signed up for (with the exception of my Countdown fic, but I committed to it as if it were something that required a sign up).

I have a lot more ideas for 2021, but I don't know how many of them will come to fruition. I'm not putting pressure on myself to have to do anything beyond what I sign up for again, because it did work out so well for me starting off.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

I mean, the pairing and the fandom were in no way a surprise. 😆 They're my only ones, so those were both a given. The genre is also not surprising.

What's your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest?

A Man of Letters, without any hesitation. I adore it so much. It's the kind of fic I know I will unabashedly sit down to read over and over, even if I'm the one who wrote it. I had one reader to please and it was ME. By far, my most self-indulgent fic.

Okay, NOW your most popular story?

That depends on the metric.

To the Manor Borne leads in Comments (107), Kudos (153), and Hits (1992), and Use Your Words leads in Bookmarks (26).

But since To the Manor Borne is top in 3 out of 4 metrics, I'll say that one.

Story most upderappreciated by the universe?

I mean, the least popular by a wide margin is At the Top of a Tower, With You, but I don't know if I'd call it underappreciated. It's short, it's angsty, it's got a very unusual style, it's Lucy POV, it's the first fic I wrote and posted. I didn't really go into it with high performance expectations. I'm proud of it, I just didn't expect it to be popular. It would be nice if more people read it, but I'm not broken up over it.

Story that could have been better?

I'm not even going to touch this one. Everything can always be improved upon, but if I go down that route, nothing will ever be done. This is one of the things I have come to appreciate about traditional art versus digital. With traditional, there is only so much you can do before something is permanent and you have to live with it. It's an exercise in letting go and acceptance. Digital is flashier and more flexible, but I could (and have) spend months on a single piece and never feel satisfied, never stop tweaking. I think that's also the reason I started to hate my novels.

Sexiest story?

Based purely on overall vibes, I find the understated tension of the Regency the most appealing, so I'm going to say A Man of Letters. I didn't actually stray into sex territory in any of my fics (though Simon and Baz have had sex by the time To the Manor Borne starts, and refer to it, and probably do it "offscreen"), but A Man of Letters is the one that feels sexiest to me. Lots of thirsting!Baz and feral!Simon and sensual hand touching (how risqué!) - and YEARNING. That, to me, is the sexiest vibe of all. So. Much. Yearning.

Saddest story?

At the Top of a Tower, With You - for this one, I tagged "angst without plot" and I stand by that. It's Lucy losing her connection to Simon at the end of CO and trying to find a way to reconcile herself to leaving him alone again. I gave it as much of a hopeful bent as I could, with the refrain of Baz's spoken "love" to cling to, but it's very sad.

Most fun?

To the Manor Borne - All of my fics have their fair share of angst, but this one also has some good, silly, holiday fluff thrown in. Since I wrote it for the Countdown, each chapter was based on a different prompt, which led to this one going in all sorts of directions no single fic probably ever should. Plus, it has the most Shepard, and Shepard always makes things more fun.

Story with the single sweetest moment?

Oh my god. I don't know. No, never mind. I do. It's To the Manor Borne, but it's split between the two gift giving scenes, the Constellations and Secret Santa/Gift Giving prompts. These were private moments between Simon and Baz, sharing themselves with each other, being vulnerable, and communicating. It's the gifts they give each other, yes, but it's more so the reasons they chose those gifts, and how they show part of themselves and share their love for each other, through those gifts, that had me in tears writing those two scenes. I'm super proud of them.

Hardest story to write?

Use Your Words - it was written for an exchange and that made it really hard to write it knowing there was this pressure of making my gift-ee happy with the fic. I'm proud of it, and they really liked it, but the anxiety was too much for me.

Easiest/most fun story to write?

A Man of Letters - if there is a fic better suited to me as a writer, I haven't met it. I started writing after reading Pride and Prejudice in high school, so I started out writing Regency and I spent years and years and years of my life obsessed. When I transferred into college, an administrator I had never met before heard my name during orientation and said, "Oh, you're the Austen scholar." (It is a small, private college, and I was a transfer, so the pool of students was even smaller. But still. Many years later, I'm clearly not over it.) I also did my senior thesis on an epistolary novel (Frances Burney’s Evelina), and my English Lit emphasis was for that time period. So, I felt like I had been preparing for this fic my entire adult life. 😂

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

I don't think so. I tend to let my writing be dictated by the characters, so I'm always following their lead. Sometimes they'll do or say something that surprises me and takes me down a route I didn't necessarily foresee, but I don't think there was ever a point where one of them did something that made me rethink who they are as a character.

Most overdue story?

I will say A Man of Letters, since that one felt like a culmination of my seventeen-year-old self's wildest writing dreams. But I should probably say the Scooby Doo AU I still haven't managed to finish, because that one has been a WIP since I joined the fandom. Oops. (I'm hoping when I look over this in a year, I can feel smug that it's finally done.)

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

Writing at all was a risk for me! And writing fan fic for the very first time! Writing an entire fic told only through letters. And then ending it in a completely different style from the rest of the fic. Doing a multi-chaptered fic for the Countdown, using a different prompt for each chapter, and publishing a chapter every single day for thirty days (with the exception of two days that had art). Signing up for fandom events in the first place!

What I learned from taking risks in my writing is the same thing I learned when I took risks in my art this year. I have a much better appreciation for what I've done when I push myself, I feel better about the end product, and I like it longer. I think it's really good for me to challenge myself creatively.

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most?

Oh boy. Um. Therapy! Both Use Your Words and To the Manor Borne had their big HEA moments built around sending Simon and Baz to therapy. I don't think that's likely to change for future fics, either. I feel like therapy as the theme for 2020 seems very fitting. (Also, I think I keep sending the boys to therapy because I'm trying to get myself there…)

What are your fic writing goals for next year?

Just to write what I want to write, have fun, not put any pressure on myself, and to take risks in my writing and my art because it will help me to grow.

Just thought of a case closed like au where Tommy is basically Conan (important to note that the characters real name is Jimmy, but when he becomes a kid he uses the name Conan)

In the anime some dudes try to kill Jimmy, but it ends up making him a kid and only his inventor/ mad scientist friend knows (I’ll be referring to him as Doc). Because I never have an original thought, Dream is obviously the guy trying to kill him during exile and thinks he’s dead. Everyone else just thinks he’s off in exile or ran away. Now for some situations and dynamics I think might be cool. Also all of these will be anime logic cause it’s based off an anime. It’s all ooc now suffer through my rambles

You know that library scene where Jimmy has to think of a new name? I am absolutely keeping that it’s an requirement. Tommy finds Techno’s house and Techno discovers him in the attic. Tommy ends up backed against the bookshelves and sees the Iliad and Odyssey, and so when asked for his name he says Homer. 

 If Techno doesn’t realize it’s Tommy it would be like Richard and Conan, but if Richard was actually competent. Tommy might try to lead techno towards his and l’manburgs enemies. Techno would definitely notice, but he cares about the kid and entertains the thoughts until he realizes that there might be a point

honestly i just want to see techno doing his usual stuff and Tommy ends up following along. Most of the time causing trouble for techno, but sometimes he thinks something kinda pog and joins in on whatever destruction techno is doing (i know this makes techno one of those anime villains that occasionally team up for the greater good, but like that’s the point. Case Closed is an anime with the biggest case of anime logic like it’s the only way. Our favorite pig has to be reduced to this I’m sorry not sorry) 

Also I know that a competent Richard just wouldn’t be Richard but shhhhh let me have this

If Techno does realize he’s Doc. Like that inventor dude is perfect. Just tosses Tommy some potions and golden apples. Mainly lets him do his own thing, but as they get closer helps out a little. Definitely gives Tommy maxed out netherite armor practically immediately. 

Honestly whether Techno knows or not he’s still like Doc, but I think if he doesn’t know then he’s going to be a little more like Richard. 

Dynamic with Phil could go in 3 main ways 

Phil instantly knows because he’s immortal and has seen everything. He does some research to figure out how to turn him back, but he’s not too bothered and is in no hurry. Just mainly laughs and makes fun of him, especially if Techno doesn’t know. (Once Tubbo and Ranboo adopt Michael he takes the opportunity to bother Tommy and runs with it. Just sends him off for a playdate or comparing the two when Tommy does something childish) 

Phil doesn’t know but has seen this before. He eventually finds out and laughs about it, but techno would probably already know. Very similar to the first one, but shock value. I think it would be really funny

Phil doesn’t know and didn’t think it was possible. Maximum shock value and maybe some emotive wings thing here. Techno most likely knows, but would also be funny if he didn’t. Just the child that’s been living in his home is actually one of the dudes that betrayed him. (I think it would go with if Phil was the one to find him in the attic when he said the fake name. Just techno already knows and is slightly freaking out and Tommy just giving the worst name ever. Phil would definitely know that something is up, but he trusts Techno.)

Butcher Army things

Just doesnt happen for plot reasons, which is valid but come think of the drama and angst

If they come before Tommy is there then honestly it’s just the same plot, but Techno is even more cautious of Tommy, especially if he does know he’s Tommy. But also imagine he comes home from nearly being killed, and a random child he’s never met is there. He knows that Homer isn’t his real name, but he’s too tired to care and he’s not so heartless as to leave a kid out to die. No deal or partnership is made, just Tommy being told not to steal anything and to make himself useful. Basically just treated like Edward and allowed to exist in the same space. 

If they come while Tommy is there we know that Tommy won’t just stay hidden. He might get spotted in a window, he might rush out, he might be outside when they come, or my personal favorite 

As they’re taking techno away he might grab a bunch of random potions and weapons and run after them. Would most likely be caught and used as a hostage, but I bet people would be a lot more uncomfortable with a kid as the hostage (might even make some people second guess about l’manburg). But what if he is successful, and Techno is saved by a little Tommy/Homer. But what if Techno sees a random kid he doesn’t know show up with his own potions and spare weapons and helps him escape. It would be the greatest thing ever with Techno’s ultimate equivalency thing. He owes this kid a favor, which could lead to techno being more active in finding out what happened to Tommy. 

The library scene still happens cause it’s a requirement, but it happens after everything with the butcher army. So this either smooths over the whole thing of him actually being Tommy, or Techno doesn’t press on being told an obviously fake name. Either way techno would let him stay, but imagine the hijinks if techno doesn’t know

imagine the angsty moment when techno realizes that ‘Homer’ knows more about what’s happening to Tommy than he’s letting on and Techno gets frustrated and yells at him about if he really wants to find Tommy and the truth comes out

True Case Closed fashion would have some complicated plan to withhold his identity but this is Tommy and Technoblade we’re talking about. Without massive outside help that wouldn’t be happening, and even then it would just make Techno even more suspicious 

Scenario for if techno doesn’t know: he notices how similar ‘Homer’ and Tommy act and wonders out loud how old Tommy is. While he knew that Tommy was young, he didn’t think that Wilbur would have child fight in multiple wars and be vice president. Cue Tommy being flabbergasted

I know that has fix-it fic vibes but they exist for a reason. Let me imagine conflict resolution in peace

Imagine all the complications on people trying to figure out how Techno knows ‘Homer’

Crackfic style: When Tommy is asked why his name is Homer he in a panic tells people that his father really liked Greek Mythology. With all of Techno’s mythology references and Tommy being around him a lot people think Techno is his dad. 

The confusion, the misunderstanding. Phil congratulating techno and confronting on not being told, Phil knowing and laughing at the ridiculousness. 

Makes the most sense with if Techno already knows, but if he doesn’t he would probably have a talk on how he’s flattered, but that he shouldn’t be a father and blah blah blah. Maybe a talk about being equals? idk this is already in crackfic area it doesn’t make sense

People think they’re brothers. Honestly a lot of different ways this could happen, but would still be funny. 

Nephew!!!!! Would honestly be less likely to be disputed by Techno, but he probably still wouldn’t be a huge fan of it. Might follow after the dad rumor as who else would be that into mythology than Techno’s family? 

Family friend’s kid. Probably the cover story and where they end up with, but leaves a lot of room for speculation. What family? Who would trust him with a child? Is he just trying to hide his true relation? I view dsmp as basically a soap opera and by god I will make it even more of one

Most likely: a combination of everything. everyone has a different idea and no one knows the truth. 

If Tubbo was the one to know he would be the tech guy, but not like Doc was. He would be fully involved in helping Tommy get back to normal

Phil might find out if Tubbo asks suspicious questions 

Tommy would get a front row seat to Tubbo and Ranboo getting married and he would be happy for them but would not stop complaining 

People might think Tubbo is grieving by helping out a kid that acts a lot like Tommy

When confronted on where the kid came from he might mention how he told Jschlatt that he was pregnant and how could everyone else forget? 

Honestly ghostbur might bring that up and they just roll with it

When Michael comes around will absolutely tell Tommy to go “play with his brother”. Would be kinda similar to Phil with teasing Tommy about that, but more exaggerated. People might find out due to the teasing 

Ranboo

insert the million ways he can find out due to techno or tubbo

He moves in after doomsday and figures it out by ‘Homer’s’ mannerisms 

Maybe he sees Tommy become a kid and comes to the conclusion that the only place safe is with Phil, which leads to Techno basically taking care of him 

Would be so awkward but imagine the begging and explaining. Doesn’t make sense in terms of the smp but anime logic 

Butcher army drama intensified as Tommy is captured. Would fight whoever tries to hurt Tommy. 

If we go with true case closed style Tommy would secretly pass supplies to Ranboo, who secretly passes them to Techno with some dramatic speech and a soccerball, but that doesn’t quite fit here. 

Might have Tommy stay at his L’manburg house and it all goes terribly. They eventually go to Techno’s together cause i like the plot line

In this case Tommy might find out about Ranboo unknowingly being involved with Dream

Would put Tommy in charge of watching over Michael when the syndicate comes to snowchester 

If Tommy shows up when he’s already moved in it would be extremely complicated to explain but I don’t think they’d mind all that much? Techno wouldn’t like him stealing his stuff, but it’s less aggravating when it’s a child who probably had to steal to live. And anyways they took in Ranboo, who is basically a kid in need, and so how can they get mad at Ranboo for doing the same? Techno and Phil would let them be with the occasional offer to bring food, or let them stay while Ranboo makes an actual house

Tommy is probably there when the disc is found and there’s a whole range of scenarios to do there take your place

During Techno and Ranboo’s adventure for sponges and totems Phil would offer to watch Tommy. 

Insert what happened with Rachel almost figuring it out, but Phil isn’t fooled. He responded to the name Tommy and the signs are there. He has a long talk with Ranboo and Tommy about what’s happening when he gets back

Ranboo would absolutely try to pull off complex plans to get people not to notice, but because it’s Ranboo they believe him or ignore it. Tubbo would definitely press a lot more than others, but I don’t think Ranboo would break. He has no moral backbone but this isn’t for him to tell. 

Insert Tommy in a panic tells the syndicate his dad liked Greek mythology and Techno makes the comment of him not knowing that Ranboo liked mythology too. Phil would make the joke too, not mattering if he knows or not

Michael  

Just thinks Tommy/Homer is fun to be around. 

They get into trouble together, especially if Ranboo and Tubbo don’t know he’s Tommy. 

If they do know he’s Tommy they’re pissed 

Craziness for who knows about Tommy and/or Michael 

Tommy and Techno are worried/and or suspicious about Ranboo so one day they follow and find out about Tubbo and Michael. The syndicate checking out snowchester is so much more comical as Techno pretends not to know. 

Circle of secrets as Phil, Ranboo, and Tommy knows about Tubbo and Michael. Only Techno and Tommy know that ‘Homer’ is Tommy. Tommy is the only one who knows everything and absolutely holds it over techno’s head. Everyone knows that something is up, but asking would mean reveling their secret as well

Phil would be most likely to just casually drop Tommy off with Michael. Techno might if push comes to shove. Tubbo would do so momentarily. Ranboo wouldn’t want to, but might end up doing it the most because he’s worried about people hurting Michael. 

Now what makes this like Case Closed is the attempt to get Tommy back to normal

Conan becomes normal momentarily a few times but then gets back to being a kid. It just keeps on going. The show is still running. 

There’s this attempt to go after Dream but it never really works, Dream might never find out. He somehow ends up in the prison anyways and still nothing happens

The Bridgerton Novels, Ranked from Best to Worst

Because the adaptation is coming this Christmas! I am very excited, even though my feelings about the book series is mixed, to say the least. I assume that, because it’s 2020, certain things will be different. 

On the Way to the Wedding (#8): I’m probably doing this wrong; this is the last book, and it’s a somewhat anticlimactic conclusion (I doubt anyone was on their edge of their seat about Gregory, the blithe second-youngest). Yet Gregory is the most likable Bridgerton, and he has a nice dynamic with Lady Lucy Abernathy. The espionage plot is also fun.

Romancing Mister Bridgerton (#4): This is the most Bridgerton book of all, starring the most-foreshadowed couple of the series, Colin and Penelope. I’m not a big fan of Colin; he does that infuriating thing romance novel hero thing where he goes off on the heroine for doing something “dangerous” (in this case, going to a church in the business district of London with her maid in broad daylight). He’s also super-self-absorbed. But I love Penelope with all my heart, and the social comedy of the Lady Whistledown scandal is delightfully chaotic.

When He Was Wicked (#6): This is the least classically Bridgerton book of the series; the more mature, quiet Francesca is the odd one out and has her own life, and the story has far more angst (grief, miscarriage, malaria) than hijinks. This does make for a rather sedate book, but the romance between Francesca and her late husband’s best friend is really sweet.

It’s in His Kiss (#7): Hyacinth is an irritant in her siblings’ books, especially Gregory’s, but I like her pretty well in her own story. Gareth, her love interest, is cute, and he has some fucked-up family drama that I enjoy. The treasure-hunt/translation plot isn’t too memorable, but it’s pleasant.

An Offer from a Gentleman (#3): Benedict is the opposite of Hyacinth, in that he has BDE in his siblings’ books but is pushy and humorless in his own. The story is charming when it’s following the Cinderella template (with the illegitimate Sophie in the title role), but it devolves into some rather miserable will-she-agree-to-be-his-mistress drama.

The Viscount Who Loved Me (#2): Lord, Anthony is a piece of work. He’s not the Bridgerton who does the absolute worst thing (see: Daphne), but he is the most consistently unpleasant of the bunch, always berating heroine Kate for nonsensical reasons (her dog makes him look foolish???) and nursing a Gaston-like obsession with marrying her hot younger half-sister (he doesn’t love Edwina, but doesn’t he deserve the best?). Kate is equally ready to throw down, though, and their dynamic is often funny even if he needs to chill the fuck out. Kate is cool in general! And I do sympathize with Anthony’s debilitating fear of bees.

The Duke and I (#1): Daphne is a perfectly serviceable heroine, until she does the One Thing. Y’all know what I’m talking about. Simon makes me really sad. Overall, a sordid bummer. 

To Sir Philip, With Love (#5): Say what you like about The Duke and I, but at least I don’t hate either of the protagonists; they just depress me. But Sir Philip is a straight-up turd. He’s a self-absorbed, unreflective, and tedious man whose emotional neglect of the heroine, his late wife, and his children crosses the line into cruelty. Eloise isn’t my favorite, but she deserved better, and it’s sad to see her rapid devolution into a pick-me girl. There’s also some gratuitous mean-spiritedness towards a homely older governess, Sir Philip’s obviously post-partum-depression-suffering late wife, and a random large-breasted woman. 

Also: Violet Bridgerton is a very nice lady. I don’t understand the scheme Julia Quinn used for choosing these titles (four movie puns, one song pun, one quote from a nursery rhyme, one straight-up song title, one...phrase?). I read The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband, and it was fine, but I never know how to feel about the fake-amnesia-husband plot.

16. 17. and 21. for writer meta ask! Always love to hear you talking about fics you wrote / are writing / will write!

16- Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)

Mm, i would say the style in a couple of fics of mine were a little bit different, i wanted to try to change the way i usually narrate or explain stuff. The main examples are And the Nightmare Collapses, because I wanted to do something a little more strange and play with the reality breaking aspects. I just love eldritch stuff, plus the entire part of the Lukas being a collective mind struggling to find personhood was delightful.

I would love to do it more in the future. I just have fun sprinkling in that sort of stuff.

Beating heart of the institution is also a very good example of that. The way I chose to tell it was meant to be different due to who the narrator was, its… the sort of weird and strange narration that reminds me of a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy or good omens. Something about the voice who tells the story being a little bit odd and going into tangents. It was fun, I struggled a little bit until I realized that I could make several pov changes to open up more possibilities regarding what the story could say.

So i'm very fond of how it turned out, despite everything.

Finally A mother’s love is also like that in the sense that i had to construct the story based on the letter and Elias reactions towards reading them. To have a bunch of seemingly unrelated events all connect into the final one and the revelation at the end. The letters and statements were the moving force, while everything else was a little window into his life. I greatly enjoyed that, and wish to do it more. Will need to see how I can implement it later on.

As for future uses, im not sure yet, like i said i would love to use some of those aspects again, but i would need to pick a plot that i feels goes well with it. Which is somewhat difficult if I want it to fit within canon as a little of an offshoot alteration.

Maybe i would love to go into more horror or the cosmic aspects of the fears, which is funny considering the fandom im writting for, but Peter and Elias are far too blase about murder and spooky shit for the horror to settle.

Its why i need to go into au territory to be able to use it best.

Oh perhaps errr, I'm trying to write smut? It is technically a genre change, im vibing with several ideas and maybe a few sequels for things i already made. But i'm not sure about it. There are a few that I do not believe will ever see the light of day even if i finish them, i'm too embarrassed for it.

17- Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations?

I… don't know? I mean it is hard to really know someone just by their writing and i try to be honest most of the time about how I am. At most I guess people would think I'm very sure of what I write? But half of the time I spend it thinking i suck. I like what I make and put love and effort into it, but I do end up feeling like its not really as good as I think. I'm still surprised that people like my stories to be honest.

My motivations are rather simple, i have an idea i like and i just make it, its not that complicated. To be fair i would love to see what someone who has only read my fics and hasn't interacted with me thinks, because who do you think i am based only on my fics its a very interesting point. But yeah, I guess that maybe they think i know what i'm doing but i'm just there trying my best to not overthink myself into feeling bad, i swear im not usually so much of a downer, but it does get me from time to time. Still is it as i tell my close ones, i keep my feelings inside and one day i die!

21- What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?)

Maybe… maybe a webcomic? Depends on the story to be honest. But most could do with that media. But i guess if i have to pick from the longer ones-

Once upon a time could be an animated series, since it is mostly hijinks, fluff and angst. The fantasy aspects would be lovely to see animated.

Heart Machinations i believe a webcomic could do, it would be a nice way to show the space backgrounds or the facility.

Beach afterlife reunion party would also work as a webcomic, i have very vivid ideas of the places i described for it, but i am unfortunately terrible at drawing backgrounds. Which is a shame, because i would love to be able to see some of the things i wrote as an illustration. Particularly chapter 2 would be a black and white thing, with the ink seeping and the empty beach. It only gains color at the end when Jonah remembers Peter….

This just me talking about the brainrot dramas have given me

Private Lives 

TBH I let this drama live in my mind rent free just based on the trailer, because I started making assumptions like ‘OMG older con couple vs. younger con couple’ but then I started it, and the first two episodes were immaculate like two people leading very different lives, lying to their significant other about who they are, and marrying them with the feelings being very much real... and then it all goes to shit because one of them slipped up.. And it was like that for more than half the show and then IDK what happened and politics got involved and personally I’m too pretty for that so I lost track, but I kept watching because I like watching pretty people fight on screen and be bitches... And also the main pairing slapped so like who am I to say it was shit. The show tried to do a lot which was commendable, but sometimes you can overstretch yourself and just comes off as sloppy. The ending was like okay makes sense, but sometimes an open-ended finale is worse :)

Also, I watched My Beautiful Bride, which was kind of similar as in two people who hid their secret lives from one another, and it was a lot more gritty with a lot more angst and I enjoyed it... About a man coming home and finding his wife missing and goes on a hunt for her, and doing so uncovers the life she lived before she met him... and overall it was great

4/5 - I’d still recommend it just b/c the Vibes and also I love it even with it’s flaws

Start Up

To make up for time between new Private Lives episodes I started this just for fun wasn’t too invested, but then the story got real sad and I was like okay I have to see this through. And I did... watch up until Episode 6, and thought it was really cute because the main characters were adorable and the plot was messy and I love messy plots (except when they involve politics). But then I realized that the show was gonna be romance heavy, when the description it came off as oh the romance mix-up is just something that happens on the side and not the main focus... Also the fandom is Ugly and Ji Pyeong is annoying so I was like bye I’m keeping Smiling Dal Mi with her rivalry with In Jae, and Do San as they are and quitting while I’m ahead

2.75/5 - .5 stars for the DILF at the start, 1 for Do San, 1 For Dal Mi, and .25 for Sa Ha 

Because This Is My First Life

I’m not into slice of life shows really, personally just find them boring... This one had a cool tagline though, like oh marriage of convenience and then dealing with the realities of marriage. It started off really good, it was genuinely funny, and gave the female lead’s friends lives and development of their own... and then it switched up halfway through and it kind of tanked... there wasn’t enough hijinks for me, and the main lead lost her charm and honestly I wasn’t even a little bit invested in anyone’s relationship so I kinda just skipped through the last few episodes.

Also bye I hate large age gaps so that’s another thing that I was cringing at... ESPECIALLY when it came down to ‘omg lol idk what ppl in ur generation do for dating’

3/5 - IDK I liked the first half a lot, the rest was meh

A Korean Odyssey 

Lee Seungi Gi holds the fantasy genre of kdramas in his fist, and like it has to be his speciality at this point because this bitch just fucking hits every role. I originally avoided the drama because of the synopsis that was like ‘Jin Seon Mi makes a promise as a child which she later regrets’ and I hate... HATE! media that’s like oh look this immortal watching this child grow and suddenly they are into each other, because it’s creepy and gross.. But this one was like ‘Okay yea this Monkey King was a dick and tricked her as a kid, and then fucked off for 30 something years and forgets she exists until she sees him again and lets her existence be known'... Then it turns into this angsty, Monkey King wants to eat her to become more powerful, but she tricks him and binds him to her so he has no choice to protect her, but the binding uses love as a way to get him to follow orders... and so they have this limbo of him being like ‘I can’t wait to flay you with bbq sauce but also that makes me sad because I’ll miss you when I’ve eaten you bc I’m in love with you’... IT WAS SO MESSY... LIKE UNBELIEVABLY MESSY AND I LOVED IT

Also, this show had the best cast of characters I’ve seen? It was very much found family vibes, with backstabbing demons and I loved it! The plot isn’t really there until near the end, but doesn’t matter because I wasn’t even watching for the plot but more for the characters because they’re so funny? This is a case of characters carrying the show rather than plot... I know a lot of people had problems with the ending because it wasn’t necessarily happy, since a lot of people die, but I felt like it was well done. There was no ‘oh their love conquers all’ like no they were still victims to fate, but they at least got to choose how everything happened... This is also a case where a sad open-ending makes sense and is good (lookin at u private lives)

Maybe she joins Dean and Sam and they become a hunting trio.

2. Jess gets brought back to life – place this in any season you want! Go wild.

1. Dean keeps in touch with Sam during Stanford! Maybe from the get-go, maybe after a couple of years, maybe seeing each other, maybe just through postcards

2. I’d love to see them during S4 where their relationship starts to fall apart, but like also see them still loving each other

1. John gets a year to live instead of instantly going to hell AU – how do they react? Do they try to save him? Does John tell them?

2. I’d love a sort of non-linear story of them (especially Sam because it’s been so long) trying to integrate John into his adult life also looking at his life as a child/teen. You know the general angst about how he’d done it, he’d gotten away and he’s right back at square one. Also, Dean starting to realise that he isn’t a kid anymore, and he’s got his own thoughts etc

Sam & Dean & Cas - Cas/Dean & Sam

1. I want to see Sam and Cas and Dean being pals! I especially want to see Cas trying to figure out how he feels about Sam without heaven influencing him to think of him purely as the boy with the demon blood who will break the last seal. I wanna see Dean making fun of Cas with various misconceptions about the bible and Cas just taking it wildly seriously and not getting any jokes.

2. I’d love just a domestic-ish fic, let Sam drill Cas with questions about angels and heaven! Let Cas drill Dean and Sam about human culture! Would love to see Cas taking human culture things out of the context that Sam and Dean provide him, or maybe Dean purposely lies to him about something as a prank

1. Licherally anything in the boy king arc! I’d love to see him fulfilling his role as the boy king. This stops Dean from going to hell, changes the way the demons work etc

2. His time at Stanford! I’d love to see him adjusting to his new life.

3. I would love to see a bit more of him in Season Four! How he feels about Dean being chosen by the angels, how this affects his view on religion, how he feels about himself and the demon. Blood etc

But he's not the only one. My Notes: Short and sweet, it touches on Shou and Ritsu’s mutual trauma from the World Domination arc and gives insight in the Suzuki family relationship before Touichirou decided to take over the world. Also Shou plays the guitar.

Of Cold Hands Reaching Author: UncannyCookie Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: terumob (can be read as platonic), angst, ptsd, trauma recovery, hurt/comfort, dissociation, miscommunication, post-mogami arc, slow burn Summary: After six months in Mogami's mind world that weren't even real anyway, Mob returns to his old life. Everything is fine. My Notes: A really interesting take on what Mob’s mind looks like after spending six months in Mogami’s fake world. It gets pretty real when discussing Mob’s dissociation and apathy about the whole thing but gets sweet at the end and has a happy ending. It’s introspective, which I really like, but has enough lighter moments in between that it doesn’t feel heavy constantly.

Delirium Author: Janekfan Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: serirei, pneumonia, hospitalization, guilt, smoking, depression, sel-harm, panic attacks, fever, sickfic, love, kissing, caretaking, misunderstandings, mental instability, flashbacks, unconsciousness Summary: Reigen questions himself. My Notes: Reigen decides to pick up smoking again as a coping mechanism and hides it from Serizawa. It goes into Reigen’s feelings of self-loathing and depressive tendencies that the manga only really touches on. It’s dreary pretty much throughout but does have a happy ending to end on a high note!

April Fools Author: SparkyFrootloops Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: dad reigen, good parent reigen, teru is reigen’s son, hijinks & shenanigans, pranks Summary:  Teruki gets to celebrate April Fools Day at his new home with Reigen. My Notes: This fic is short but so so funny and full of heart. Teru trying to prank Reigen, who he lives with in the context of the story, is hilarious and all the dialogue is just gold. I also really love Mob’s cameo in the second half. Just a solid found family comedy one-shot to lighten your mood and make you smile.

Broken, Repaired, New Author: GalacticConfectionist Rating: T Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: serirei, abuse, child abuse, domestic violence (all abuse is only implied/referenced, never shown), light angst, hurt/comfort, pining, good parent reigen, good brother reigen, original character but she’s really good Summary: “You’re a good kid” He said, ruffling his student’s hair. There’s a moment of quiet and Reigen sighs, “Mob, remember this. Guys who hit women are the biggest losers in the world.” Reigen’s sister comes to visit, shenanigans ensue. My Notes: I don’t usually go for fics with ocs in them since I don’t typically end up connecting with them but this is one of the rare exceptions! Reigen’s sister escapes her abusive husband with her daughter and goes to Reigen for help. She ends up staying with Serizawa and trying to set him up with her brother. Despite the references to abuse it’s actually a very lighthearted fic about wanting to make your friends happy and taking care of those you consider to be family. Misaki and Reigen’s sibling relationship is well-written and she has enough personality and motivation to make me invested in her situation. Just an all-around good read if you want to smile and feel happy.

It’s not too far in but still has enough content to be worth a read. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but that’s the charm of it, and it comes across as humorous and lighthearted with its found family dynamics. Reigen and Serizawa are both clueless parents of their adopted sick kids and are just trying to help each other out.

The Space Between Author: sofia-estrella Rating: M (nsfw content in later chapters) Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: serirei, reigen pov, slow burn, coworkers to friends to lovers Summary: Reigen never expected Serizawa to stay. My Notes: A really nice fic about how Reigen and Serizawa’s relationship grows and evolves slowly as they spend more than a year together over the course of the narrative. Both Reigen and Serizawa are very in character and their relationship is approached with care and concern from both sides, which I think is very fitting for them! It does a good job of balancing soft character interaction with personal squabbles and drama, which makes for an interesting and entertaining read.

The Joy of Cooking (for a Family You Didn’t Know You Had) Author: pepperfield Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: good parent reigen, background serirei, found family, unintentional parenthood, cooking, meddling kids, family fluff, food as a metaphor for love, getting together, light pining, 5+1 Summary: At first, it's easy. Mob likes takoyaki. This, Reigen can remember. When Teru moves in, things get a little more complex, but it's fine. He only has to feed one kid on a regular basis; he can handle this. But before he knows it, he's memorized all of Tome's favorite restaurants and he's keeping a stash of snacks in the office just in case Shou visits. This whole "family" business has gotten out of hand. My Notes: Good old dad Reigen taking care of his five unruly children. In this fic Teru lives with Reigen and everyone else is just along for the collective ride. It’s a 5+1 fic about Reigen cooking/buying food for the kids as a way to show he cares about them. It’s really cute and shows how much Reigen cares about the esper boys and Tome after all is said and done in the manga.

On Revelations and Renovations Author: mustdang100 Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: good parent reigen, reigen adopts teru, background serirei, hurt/comfort, adoption, fluff and humor, 5+1 Summary: “I’m really sorry to bother you, but, ah, I don’t suppose that offer to stay at your place for the night was still an option?” Five times Reigen got called a 'dad,' and one time he called himself one - a vignette-style fic on how Teruki grows up and Reigen acquires a family in the days, months, and years following the World Domination arc. My Notes: Teru decides to stay with Reigen after all following the world domination arc, and then never leaves. It’s a super cute and fun fic about found family dynamics between all the main cast, but specifically Reigen and Teru. Teru and Reigen’s banter is well-written and funny, and the whole concept and execution is really charming and fun to ready.

A Real (Psychic) Conman Author: Trinz Rating: T Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: esper!reigen, empath!reigen, swearing, reigen centric Summary:  An AU where Reigen actually is the 21st century's greatest psychic- or at least the second, or third, or maybe fourth- the point is that he’s an esper and his "I'm so powerful I can hide my aura" thing is... actually true. My Notes: This is one of my current favorite fics. I read it all over the course of like two days up to its current chapter and I’m in love with the author’s psychic Reigen concept. It follows the canon storyline with some divergence to account for Reigen actually having powers, and really paints him in a different light. It also has an air of mystery with its over-arching plot that, seventeen chapters in, still has only been hinted at, but the real star of the fic is the way a psychically powered Reigen interacts with Mob, Ritsu, and Dimple and the creative ways the author incorporates his powers of telepathy and empathy. Really creative and a super fun long read if you want a longer story!

Don Carlo: Ahhhhh well, I guess I have to choose something...maybe Act IV, Scene 1. You have Filippo’s big scene (ALL THE FEELS), the bass/bass showdown that is absolutely legendary, you have Elisabetta calling EVERYBODY out and being the strong, amazing woman she is, that phenomenal quartet, that scene for Elisabetta and Éboli that rips my heart out every time (seriously, I physically cannot listen to the line ‘Io...io stessa...avea...comm’esso!’ without crumpling. it’s bad.), and of course, you have perhaps the greatest mezzo aria of all time, ‘O don fatale’, to close it out. It’s just one phenomenal piece after another, and I love how much it focuses in on the characters and allows us to get to know them (ESPECIALLY the more morally dubious ones) a lot better.

Les Huguenots: As much as part of me is begging me to say Act IV, my heart is saying the last two scenes together (Act V, Scenes 2 and 3, which are often combined as Act V, Scene 2 or even as just Act V). This is for a lot of the same reasons as Act IV, Scene 1 of Don Carlo: (for the most part) this is essentially a huge trio in several movements with occasional interventions from the chorus and a couple other characters and I feel like every part just gets better and more intense and more heartbreaking...and I emotionally die in the middle every time. (Specifically, if not earlier, at the line ‘Ils ne chantent plus.’) Anyway the music slaps HARD (and I CANNOT with all the repetitions of ‘A Mighty Fortress Is Our God’), and once again, I just love how much this focuses in on our leading trio and lets us, the audience, get to know them that much better only to be like ‘okay now they’re gonna die’ DAMMIT THAT’S NOT GOOD FOR ANYBODY BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH anyway I need to stop writing so much for each of these because if I do it’ll take forever

La bohème: Act II, for a combination of sentimental reasons and the fact that it is just so good! You get the street scene with all those amazing choruses but you also get hijinks and love and happiness and it’s Puccini so you get great tunes. And of course, we all know that a) Musetta’s Waltz is an absolute BOP and b) we all secretly want to be Musetta. At least I do.

Dialogues des Carmélites: I am legally obligated to say the Salve Regina because a) it’s the scene that got me hooked on this opera, b) it’s an amazing piece of music, and c) THE FEELS I DIE EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even though I SHOULD know that the guillotine is going to happen it ALWAYS throws me off whenever it comes in for the first time and I’m like WTF WTF NOOOOOOOO and the part where Blanche comes back? kill me. just...kill me.

Un ballo in maschera: Act III, Scene 1! Once again this is a lot like Don Carlo, Act IV, Scene 1 because it’s a super-intimate scene and the music SLAPS from start to finish. Amelia and Renato/Anckarström’s arias are both incredible and make me feel ALL THE FEELS, and they’re also great at showing parts of their lives that we don’t really get to see much of elsewhere, respectively the mother and the lover. Then there’s the whole conspiracy trio-turned-quartet, which is amazing, AND THE LOT-DRAWING SCENE. It’s so creepy and extra and the music is just perfect for the scene. And of course, we top it off with Oscar coming in and being his delightful self while everyone else is either angsting or plotting and it’s all in one quintet that works??? so??? well??? like??? how???

Die tote Stadt: ‘Glück, das mir verblieb’ AND its return in the final scene. First off, it’s some of the most gorgeous, cinematic, heartbreaking music in all opera. Seriously, drop what you’re doing and go listen to it (especially the one with Carol Neblett and René Kollo). But also, it’s just this amazing, seemingly-simple little song that’s about grief and what it’s like to lose someone you love and it HURTS. Also, it’s like the one time in the entire opera when Paul and Marietta are actually getting along because pretty much everywhere else their relationship is INCREDIBLY messed up. And then the last verse coming back in the final scene, when Paul sings it alone as he finally works up the courage to move on, leave Bruges, and start over...I die every time.

Falstaff: While perhaps my favorite individual part of this opera is the finale, ‘Tutto nel mondo è burla’, my favorite scene is Act II, Scene 2, which is absolutely comedy GOLD from start to finish. It’s late Verdi so you know the music is going to be amazing, and it is, and it’s all so light and fizzy and just plain FUN. I also just love all the women working together to outsmart a creepy old guy, all the men being Clueless, Nannetta and Fenton just trying to get a moment together...and I love how much this scene makes fun of opera tropes, especially the “we’re going to stand around and sing about how we need to do something while not actually doing that thing” trope. Also, thank you Shakespeare, Verdi, and Boito for the laundry basket stuff. That is absolutely priceless.

Tosca: This could be a veritable coin flip between the finales to Acts I and II (if nothing else, you have to acknowledge that Puccini knew how to end an act. he did.), but I’ll go with the finale to Act II. Obviously I love MURDER TIME and everything Tosca is screaming at Scarpia (and yes, ‘Questo è il bacio di Tosca!’ is arguably the best line ever) and the music for that part is so amazing, but my favorite thing is actually what happens afterwards...the one melody that keeps coming back (the daa-daa-daa-da-da-da-da-DAAAAA) is so awesome, I love the line ‘E avanti a lui tremava tutta Roma!’, and pulled off well, this can tell you so much about Tosca and everything she’s going through. I love it.

Die Zauberflöte: Anytime Papageno is onstage (yes he is also my favorite character) OR ‘Der Hölle Rache’. I love Papageno for a lot of the same reasons you do; he’s fun, he’s a sweetheart, he doesn’t really want to get involved in all this Masonic mess, he just wants true love and happiness. And all his music is amazing. And then of course, Der Hölle Rache is just absolutely iconic and terrifying as hell and I NEVER get tired of hearing sopranos hit those high Fs. I love.

Faust: The Cathedral Scene (depending on the version, this could be Scene 1, Scene 2, OR Scene 3 of Act IV because Act IV of this opera, and directors’ stagings of it, are weird). This is one of those rare soprano/bass or bass-baritone duets in opera and the music is absolutely incredible (THE PIPE ORGAN). Even more than that, I love it because it’s so great at portraying psychological trauma/disintegration because no matter where this scene is placed Marguérite has experienced some Extremely Bad Things and has an incredible amount of shame and Catholic Guilt and she’s trying to keep things together but Mephistopheles is just taunting her about how terrible of a person she must be and Marguérite is just trying to hold it all together and she’s praying and trying not to lose her mind but everything just seems like it’s condemning her and she just. can’t. deal. with. it. I mean...damn it’s an intense scene.
