You have no clue how astonished you left me when I saw this drawing.
Primarily, even though you used a gacha background and I repeat this frequently: the "backdrop" that you chose is nothing short of perfection. I just find such delight when a person knows how important the environment is in art and that they actually take the time to find one that suits the milieu. And I canât help but remark that this time, the surroundings play a part in the artwork and that is whatâs making it more emotional. One of the symbolism of rain is a spiritual connection. In the art, the expressions of the actors convey this metaphor in its own beautiful way.
This leads me to talk about the subsequent aspect; once again, the expressions. Noticeably, the characters are asseverating more expressions than before. What I mean by that is you finally have this face filled with emotion other than love,yearning and compassion. Momentarily, you seem to be staring at Akashi with THIS clichĂ© stare. I am not sure what it means considering that I havenât experienced love and I donât know how you must have been feeling at the instant. But if I were to take a guess,your eyes were giving a mix of the following gazes: the curious stare,the adoring stare,the blank stare, the surprised stare and for some odd reasons I sense a tad bit of nostalgia and contemplation in those eyes.
As for Akashi, something about him obviously seems different. Under my interpretation, he has this sense of liberty stamped over his face. My reasoning for this would be because he must be feeling unrestrained after a certain period of suffering since heâs come to realize that heâs not alone and there are his friends by his side. In reality they were always by his sides, he just couldnât discern this because they didnât express it vocally and rather by their behaviour which can be tricky to comprehend.He didnât realize this beforehand and he used to feel abandoned and alone. Once again, I find it symbolic how the rain matches with Akashiâs (probably new goals); life renewal/renewal of the lifestyle and he probably changed himself for the better after this match.
I havenât watched the Last Game movie but from peopleâs posts, this is the appropriate conclusion I deducted.
I failed to recall this previously but I was very endeared at Akashiâs smile.Itâs just so winsom! Surprisingly his cheeks are of a lighter tint of pink than usual. You didnât forget the blush on yourself this time đ
I must be hallucinating but I feel like you either draw Akashi slightly different than your usual artstyle or completely different like today and yesterday. Also your eyes arenât purple or so I think (?) I usually get the allusion that theyâre blueish purple or purplish blue but this is new (well atleast for me that is). Youâre so talented!

I am so terribly sorry if I missed any detail, I tried my best to cover anything that I could. This time I wanted to focus more on the symbolism because thatâs what I believed the main idea of your drawing was since you focused more on your face and Akashiâs expressions (it was giving lachrymose but in a buoyant way).From my experience, when artists focus on the face itâs for emotional reasons. But that may not have been the case for you.
Your drawings are like a gift because of how pretty they are. I could truly stare at them all day.

INTRODUCTION
When you guys met in the mines, you guys connected like attracting magnets! Orion definitely enjoyed your independence and fun personality when he saw you talk to your other friends. He decided to strike up a conversation one day since you guys had the same commander, Elita One. He went up to you while you guys were exiting the mines, smirking with that charm that he always has.
Though you were shy at first, Orion understood and decided to make it his mission to get you comfortable with him. He brought you around with D16 and Orion slowly started to leave D16 out. D16 was definitely pissed but he couldnât care too much⊠It then went to a point where Orion would just entirely ignore D16 and just talk to you.
Orion loved everything about you, from your looks to your humour to your eagerness to learn! He was almost even obsessed, wanting to always hang out with you even while you guys are out doing your job. Your soft heart to your strong emotions made him so happy
Overtime he got just a bit too touchy and clingy. He would bring you with him everywhere and I mean everywhere! Even if you're uncomfortable. Orion didnât care, he just wanted to have you in his presence 24/7.
HEADCANONS
- This guy would take note of literally anything you hated, loved and anything like that. He would also force himself to like what you like, even if it doesnât pique his interest.
- You would talk to him about your love for art and astronomy, how you know every single piece of detail to each of your artworks, each stroke having a deep meaning. This bores Orion Pax, but he doesnât care. He will listen.
- He absolutely loves to joke around with you. You being so humourous and impulsively funny makes Orion Pax go over the moon.
- The second you crack a joke (even if it isnât funny) he will laugh loudly and encourage you to make more of those jokes. Your jokes will absolutely make his day 10x better, even if bad.
- Orion loves to come by to your carrierâs (motherâs) bakery, helping out with the baking. Though he isnât patient enough, he will do it for you.
- No matter where you are, he knows. He keeps a little calendar in his berth, listing what you usually do throughout the day. It gets to a point where he can predict your location off by heart.
- Orion definitely defended you from your other siblings, telling them to back off and scram. He would try to be your âheroâ and will always be the one to tell the others to go away. He definitely encourages your anger issues for this.
- Definitely a sunshine x warm light ( your warm light you lovely goof! )

- Orion knows that you are very kind and gullible, so he would use this to his advantage. He would manipulate and guilt-trip you into breaking the law with him, whether you like it or not. He would try to be the utmost grateful for everything and blame you for messing up when you barely fell and did nothing.
- Since you're willing to try new things, Orion decides to push you into trying new things. Anything he likes that you dislike, he will force you into it. He would peer pressure you and be upset when you donât try, using your sympathy to his advantage.
- Sometimes you bring up D16 and why Orion has been so distant from him. Orion tries his best to brush the topic off and force another one onto you, bringing up some pop culture. If you are persistent, he will get mad and walk off, blaming you for upsetting him and bringing D16 up.
- Sometimes Orion may gaslight you or just lie about D16, saying either that D16 was just a bad friend and he pissed him off too much or D16 and Orion were never friends to begin with. You obviously didnât believe him but he insisted.

ICYMI: Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Livestream News

Earlier today there was a nice, hour-long livestream covering new information and details about the upcoming Guardians of Azuma, set to release on May 30th. The stream archive is linked above, and is absolutely recommended viewing, but if you just want a quick summary of the basics, that's what this post is here for!
15:05 - Countdown Ends, most recent trailer begins playing. The trailer features the different season-based villages, Village Builder Mode, Adventure, Romance, and story-focused segments.
18:50 - Our host, Ovilee May introduces herself and welcomes viewers to the livestream. She also introduces us to Suzie Yeung, the voice actress for Kaguya, the game's heroine, and Brandon McInnis, voice of the game's hero, Subaru. They emphasize how much work they've put into the game, with a lot of voice acting and story emphasis for the game. Brandon and Suzie describe the protagonists as "good listeners," but adds that Kaguya is refined and elegant while Subaru is a bit more brash.
22:48 - An overview of the Rune Factory series, with slides pictured above. Brandon relates a story about how his voice acting career began during his play-through of Rune Factory 3. Suzie hasn't played Rune Factory yet, but is a fan of farming sims. The basics of the series are laid out, farming, fighting, romance, RPG elements, etc.
30:13 - A look at Guardians of Azuma specifically. Describing it as a re-imagining of the series, building on the core tenants of the series but adding village building and earth dancing. There is emphasis on the turtle in the artwork, which is appreciated as turtles are extremely cool. Please look directly at the turtle in the above image.
32:32 - The next segment focuses on the Earth Dancers, our protagonists. Brandon and Suzie emphasize again that their characters are a bit brash and more elegant respectively while also adding that Subaru is a bit more emotional and Kaguya is more reserved.
34:25 - We move on to the next segment, which covers the Village Builder and farming aspects of the game. Players will be able to place residences for villagers, build farming/ranching facilities like barns, and storefronts. Ovilee emphasizes that you can design the town for your own quality of life, such as setting up the blacksmith next to your home instead of having to run into town every time you need them.
35:20 - There's emphasis on the Eastern style to the game's world design, though there will be some Western aspects as well, such as foods. No specific mention of actual Western foods included in the game.
36:33 - Bows and Talismans are new weapon types, and the ability to recruit monsters and party members to adventure with you as a returning feature is emphasized. When asked about favorite characters, there's some evasion on being able to mention specific characters, but shout-outs to Woolby, the game's mascot.
38:19 - We pivot to the romance side of Guardians of Azuma. If there was any doubt, same-sex relationships are emphasized as a returning feature. While, there was some evasiveness on favorites at first, Brandon does say that the writing is wonderful and that different scenes would make him laugh or cry from the ways different relationships play out before highlighting Cuilang's story in particular.
41:15 - Ovilee, begins asking Suzie and Brandon about their characters. Kaguya and Subaru being childhood friends who were betrothed in an arranged marriage before the events of the game, where things "get complicated." Ovilee then asks about their opinions on the depths of the relationships of the characters. The phrases "comprehensive," "fleshed out," and that each side character has a strong story without short-cutting anyone. Playing their characters did have plenty of strong emotions, with Suzie mentioning one of the characters made her extremely angry, "I was ready to take a swing at somebody." Kaguya and Subaru have a lot of history with each other as well.
45:33 - Garrison Denim, localization team member, joins the group to hand out three Sacred Treasures from the game, a Sacred Drum, Sacred Sword, and Sacred Parasol. After praising our voice actors, it's time to jump into some gameplay. Garrison narrates as we're given a look at Spring Village, the first in the game. Village customization is emphasized, and it's shown that villagers are also helping with the farm work, not just the player. They can plant, water, harvest, and each villager will have distinct qualities and specialties. You can also still use monsters to handle your fields.
Next, the Sacred Treasures are introduced. Each has special abilities: The Sacred Parasol can water every tilled tile simultaneously, the Sacred Drum can speed up growth, the Sacred Sword generating seeds from crops ready to be harvested. While the drum is being used, there is a pop-up referencing a "Drum Dance Skill Tree."
An alternative, birds-eye view for village customization is shown. Maintaining villages will be extra important, as you're "not farming just for yourself" as the leader of these communities, and "making sure all the villagers are fed." There's also a lot of decorations to help creative village designers. Each village will have a fully customizable space, or multiple spaces, to use.
55:55 - We now switch to demonstrating combat. Your party can have a maximum of six, filling in with romance candidates, monsters, or villagers while you adventure. It's demonstrated that bosses have specific weaknesses and that filling a stun gauge can allow you to get an upperhand, and different characters will have different specialties. You can also ride some monsters, relationships with party members will improve, Sacred Treasures are demonstrated to offer combat abilities like debuffing enemies, and perfect dodges will grant bullet-time like effects.
1:07:22 - It's time to get to relationships! There's a new menu while interacting with characters that will give you options based on your bond level with them, with new options unlocking as your bond level increases, as well as a time-based cost. Each character has a variety of different things to do with them, as well as likes and dislikes, and some interactions lead to distinct scenes.
1:12:25 - Sakuna collaboration DLC! She exists as a villager, can join your party, and such. She's itty bitty. We also get to have a little look at the Collectors Bundle. Closing out, Suzie and Brandon also mention that this is probably the longest running project they've worked on, with lots of hard work and voiced dialog that they're looking forward to players experiencing. Finally, the newest trailer plays again.

May I ask what scanners / equipment / software you're using in the utena art book project? I'm an artist and half the reason I rarely do traditional art is because I'm never happy with the artwork after it's scanned in. But the level of detail even in the blacks of Utena's uniform were all captured so beautifully! And even the very light colors are showing up so well! I'd love to know how you manage!
You know what's really fun? This used to be something you put in your site information section, the software and tools used! Not something that's as normal anymore, but let's give it a go, sorry it's long because I don't know what's new information and what's not! Herein: VANNA'S 'THIS IS AS SPECIFIC AS MY BREAK IS LONG' GUIDE/AIMLESS UNEDITED RAMBLE ABOUT SCANNING IMAGES
Scanning: Modern scanners, by and large, are shit for this. The audience for scanning has narrowed to business and work from home applications that favor text OCR, speed, and efficiency over archiving and scanning of photos and other such visual media. It makes sense--there was a time when scanning your family photographs and such was a popular expected use of a scanner, but these days, the presumption is anything like that is already digital--what would you need the scanner to do that for? The scanner I used for this project is the same one I have been using for *checks notes* a decade now. I use an Epson Perfection V500. Because it is explicitly intended to be a photo scanner, it does threebthings that at this point, you will pay a niche user premium for in a scanner: extremely high DPI (dots per inch), extremely wide color range, and true lossless raws (BMP/TIFF.) I scan low quality print media at 600dpi, high quality print media at 1200 dpi, and this artbook I scanned at 2400 dpi. This is obscene and results in files that are entire GB in size, but for my purposes and my approach, the largest, clearest, rawest copy of whatever I'm scanning is my goal. I don't rely on the scanner to do any post-processing. (At these sizes, the post-processing capacity of the scanner is rendered moot, anyway.) I will replace this scanner when it breaks by buying another identical one if I can find it. I have dropped, disassembled to clean, and abused this thing for a decade and I can't believe it still tolerates my shit. The trade off? Only a couple of my computers will run the ancient capture software right. LMAO. I spent a good week investigating scanners because of the insane Newtype project on my backburner, and the quality available to me now in a scanner is so depleted without spending over a thousand on one, that I'd probably just spin up a computer with Windows 7 on it just to use this one. That's how much of a difference the decade has made in what scanners do and why. (Enshittification attacks! Yes, there are multiple consumer computer products that have actually declined in quality over the last decade.)
Post-processing: Photoshop. Sorry. I have been using Photoshop for literally decades now, it's the demon I know. While CSP is absolutely probably the better piece of software for most uses (art,) Photoshop is...well it's in the name. In all likelihood though, CSP can do all these things, and is a better product to give money to. I just don't know how. NOTENOTENOTE: Anywhere I discuss descreening and print moire I am specifically talking about how to clean up *printed media.* If you are scanning your own painting, this will not be a problem, but everything else about this advice will stand! The first thing you do with a 2400 dpi scan of Utena and Anthy hugging? Well, you open it in Photoshop, which you may or may not have paid for. Then you use a third party developer's plug-in to Descreen the image. I use Sattva. Now this may or may not be what you want in archiving!!! If fidelity to the original scan is the point, you may pass on this part--you are trying to preserve the print screen, moire, half-tones, and other ways print media tricks the eye. If you're me, this tool helps translate the raw scan of the printed dots on the page into the smooth color image you see in person. From there, the vast majority of your efforts will boil down to the following Photoshop tools: Levels/Curves, Color Balance, and Selective Color. Dust and Scratches, Median, Blur, and Remove Noise will also be close friends of the printed page to digital format archiver. Once you're happy with the broad strokes, you can start cropping and sizing it down to something reasonable. If you are dealing with lots of images with the same needs, like when I've scanned doujinshi pages, you can often streamline a lot of this using Photoshop Actions.
My blacks and whites are coming out so vivid this time because I do all color post-processing in Photoshop after the fact, after a descreen tool has been used to translate the dot matrix colors to solids they're intended to portray--in my experience trying to color correct for dark and light colors is a hot mess until that process is done, because Photoshop sees the full range of the dots on the image and the colors they comprise, instead of actually blending them into their intended shades. I don't correct the levels until I've descreened to some extent.
As you can see, the print pattern contains the information of the original painting, but if you try to correct the blacks and whites, you'll get a janky mess. *Then* you change the Levels:
If you've ever edited audio, then dealing with photo Levels and Curves will be familiar to you! A well cut and cleaned piece of audio will not cut off the highs and lows, but also will make sure it uses the full range available to it. Modern scanners are trying to do this all for you, so they blow out the colors and increase the brightness and contrast significantly, because solid blacks and solid whites are often the entire thing you're aiming for--document scanning, basically. This is like when audio is made so loud details at the high and low get cut off. Boo.
What I get instead is as much detail as possible, but also at a volume that needs correcting:
Cutting off the unused color ranges (in this case it's all dark), you get the best chance of capturing the original black and white range:
In some cases, I edit beyond this--for doujinshi scans, I aim for solid blacks and whites, because I need the file sizes to be normal and can't spend gigs of space on dust. For accuracy though, this is where I'd generally stop.
For scanning artwork, the major factor here that may be fucking up your game? Yep. The scanner. Modern scanners are like cheap microphones that blow out the audio, when what you want is the ancient microphone that captures your cat farting in the next room over. While you can compensate A LOT in Photoshop and bring out blacks and whites that scanners fuck up, at the end of the day, what's probably stopping you up is that you want to use your scanner for something scanners are no longer designed to do well. If you aren't crazy like me and likely to get a vintage scanner for this purpose, keep in mind that what you are looking for is specifically *a photo scanner.* These are the ones designed to capture the most range, and at the highest DPI. It will be a flatbed. Don't waste your time with anything else.
Hot tip: if you aren't scanning often, look into your local library or photo processing store. They will have access to modern scanners that specialize in the same priorities I've listed here, and many will scan to your specifications (high dpi, lossless.)

Okay, so new day; new insane lore history theory.
Looking at the tapestry from ToX again more closely, after my very quick scan this morning, there are actually five distinct types of soldiers shown:
Based on careful examination of the contemporary armor/uniforms used by the Pentarchy armies, I landed on this breakdown:
I could explain in great detail how I made those distinctions, but honestly it doesn't matter and people don't care. Just trust me, I thought hard about it.
Originally I misidentified there as only being three types of soldiers, because the Katolis/Evenere and Neolandia/Del Bar designs are very similar. Also because the tapestry shows three cities:
Katolis is obvious, and I still think the other two are Berylgarten and Neolandia. The map helpfully tells us there are five known cities in the human kingdoms, complete with little pictures:
I've left out Hinterpeak because it's very obvious none of the tapestry cities is Hinterpeak, Hinterpeak is literally inside a mountain. Del Bar's secondary city, Serpentongue, looks like a candidate based on its map drawing, but ToX tells us that Serpentongue actually looks like this, which is... less representative of what the tapestry shows:
We see Berylgarten briefly in s2 during Viren's flashback sections, where it's a sort of tiered city with towers around a central dome:
I think that's closer to the top tapestry city than Serpentongue is, though it's still fairly abstracted. It also makes more sense for the "capital" city of a kingdom to be represented.
Finally, we have Eboreus, which is a bit of a problem child because we have no long-distance views of Eboreus that I can recall... there are depictions of the inside of the city, but nothing that would characterize its silhouette for us. However, ToX does have another piece of "old" artwork, meant to be probably some kind of fresco, depicting the founding of Neolandia and Eboreus:
(This is the latter, Eboreus half, the right half just shows the people migrating from the east and going through a nomadic tent-based civilization period.)
It doesn't help a ton, except that construction of the city wall is given a pretty dramatic place in the visual narrative. I would definitely assume, from this, that Eboreus is a walled city similar to the bottom tapestry city. Combined with the many-spired depiction on the map, I feel okay about that identification.
It's interesting that they geographically represent only three of the five kingdoms, but if the tapestry pre-dates parts of the kingdoms' formations... well, the kingdom that's a swamp infested with magical megagators and the kingdom where they still choose the next monarch by having a literal melee free-for-all are honestly the ones I'd say probably took the longest to establish like... actual government.
However, something to keep in mind is that while I've been talking about this tapestry like it's a super-old historical document within the setting, it may actually not be from all that far in the past. All we really know is that it shows a conflict between humans and elves, divided by the Border, and that's not exactly a historically unique scenario. The main things that suggest it's showing an earlier time than "now" are that it includes only three cities, and that it clearly depicts mages being heavily involved in warfare. If that was something that was expected at series time, a lot of things would be very different. I could, however, see it being a thing as late as, say, the time of the Orphan Queen. I mention all of this because the tapestry is one of several "old"-looking art pieces in Tales of Xadia, but we have to keep in mind that one of those literally depicts Harrow killing Avizandum, so. It could be very old, it could be not-very old. (I mean, 300 years is still pretty old, in the scope of known human history.)
Really, though, what I wanted to talk about is this:
We have our "Katolian" soldier, but the heraldry on their shield is not the Katolis uneven towers, even though that's already a distinguishing feature of the kingdom (as seen in the city depictions). Instead, it's a layered uh... thing. But it's a thing we've seen before:
The guards at Allhaven Hill have their own heraldry, presumably because they're supposed to be neutral regardless of their kingdom of origin... but it's almost exactly the same overlapping geometric design as we see in the tapestry.
We also have Blondie McKatolis, in the flashback scenes during Zubeia's account of Aaravos's imprisonment, strongly implying that we are seeing representatives of the human kingdoms at the time of the Orphan Queen:
We pretty clearly also have Neolandia, Del Bar, and Evenere at this table. Also Duren, I just always get confused by her since they gave her those purple-y pink accents instead of blue. Why? No idea. What is this, Sleeping Beauty?
Anyway, Blondie up there also does not use the modern Katolian uneven-towers heraldry, nor the crown that matches it. Depending on how long the Aaravos bullshit had been going on, it's not surprising that the Orphan Queen would try for a clean slate when taking the throne. Having just averted devastation on both sides of the Border by working together with Xadia, "finding strength in our differences" is a pretty good choice for new logo inspiration. (I don't actually know how you adopt/change heraldry. But I do know logo design and branding strategy!)
Given that all five kingdoms technically appear in the tapestry, the "Pentarchy" heraldry could already be a united human kingdoms symbol... except then why isn't it on any of the other soldiers? Some of them have shields almost exactly the same as the Katolian soldiers, but no heraldry.
So here's a thought: what if it actually is the Katolian heraldry of the time, or a symbol of the kingdoms united under Katolis?
Katolis is one of the older and larger kingdoms, it's implied to have had a larger and more organized military for a long time (holding most of the Border), and Blondie is the one with Aaravos whispering in his ear. It wouldn't be super weird if Katolis at one point held a higher position than the other kingdoms, whether as "first among equals" or an actual system of vassals with a "high king" or whatever. The center, frontmost piece of the overlapping geometry, so to speak.
We have occasionally gotten weird little hints/implications that the current era of peace between the human kingdoms, even the entire concept of the Pentarchy, is fairly recent. What if that's not because they were all squabbling amongst themselves even after the mage wars wound down, but that prior to the Orphan Queen, they were all varying degrees of vassal states to Katolis? If part of what the Orphan Queen did was reset the human kingdoms as equals, doing a "this symbol now belongs to all of us, not just Katolis, and Katolis will adopt new heraldry" could be a nice gesture.
But yeah, that's how my brain has been spinning today.

Hello and happy endless January! Despite how long this month may have seemed, it is almost over - and that means it's soon time for another art party hosted by my guild, Verdant Shield [VS]! We're taking a little tour of the cozy size of the jungle this time, over at Mabon Market in Caledon!
For those who arenât familiar with art parties, theyâre a concept carried over from Final Fantasy XIV - in-game get-togethers for artists/writers/creatives of all types to hang out, chat, and create together! Get your favorite character/look together, head to the location, find someone that catches your eye, and create! Afterwards, everyone posts their creations in a shared tag (ours is #VSArtParty) so others can see, interact, and share! Tl;dr: the âgoalâ of an art party isnât to be drawn, but to draw others, and share with the community!
Time and /squadjoin information is under the cut, but will also be posted again via reblogs as the squads go up on the day of the party!
Location Information:
Caledon Forest is a nice easily-accessible map for everyone, and Mabon Market even has its own dedicated waypoint (that is, Mabon Waypoint)! I imagine we'll kind of scatter out across the market and beach, so don't take my exact location in this screenshot too seriously!
Time & Squad Details:
As we always do, we'll be having two parties - one on EU servers and one on NA ones - with an hour break in between. People tend to arrive early and/or jump between accounts as soon as the break comes up, so don't be surprised to see tags and announcements going up ahead of schedule!
The first party will be on EU servers and begin at 9pm Central European Time (aka 3pm Eastern Standard Time or 4 hours before in-game reset). Iâll be hosting on my EU alt account, so to join either /squadjoin or whisper Aemryn of Dusk for an invite.
The second party will be on NA servers and begin at 7pm Eastern Standard Time (aka 1am Central European Time or at in-game reset). Iâll be hosting this one on my main account, so to join either /squadjoin or whisper Kirslyn for an invite.
Closing Words:
A few days ago some nasty info came to the surface about various GW2 sources being scraped for AI purposes, with tumblr tags specifically being mentioned. Though I certainly wouldn't blame anyone for being discouraged and not wanting to draw at all (even this post was delayed because of it), I think at the end of the day, even if you don't post anything publicly, you still shouldn't deny yourself the company and community of your fellow creatives! If you'd like to make this art party have more of a focus on screenshots, or even just hang out and not draw at all, please feel free - your presence is what makes these parties...well, parties, after all!
If you are still interested in posting your artwork though, please check out Glaze and Nightshade as potential ways to protect yourself (and hurt AI datasets) if you haven't already! And even if you don't do that, make sure to slap signatures/watermarks/etc wherever you can. This may be a disheartening time for us, but it doesn't mean we have to stop doing what we love.

He's probably one of my most drawn boys... He and Khlo are a part of the Stakebait Coterie - which also include Christian and Kyle! The four best friends that anyone can have, all Thinbloods, all taking on ATL's Camarilla!

This isnât an art request but I just saw your AMV and I loved it a lot! If you can, could you walk through the process whereby you color the animation? Do you have set color palettes and add overlays to create lighting or do you manually pick the colors via color theory? I want to know /nf
Hello!! I appreciate your interest :D I put a lot of thought into the colors so this may be a long one! It'll include other animation info too
Any color I use is never reused for any section, I pick them all manually and for a purpose, it's important to have something different for each section as it adds more meaning and so things don't get boring. I occasionally use overlays, only one section uses it though. I'll go over a bunch of parts where color was important.
I struggled with the colors here, it based it off of an old drawing (on the right), and I realized I couldn't make my old coloring style work again, especially with how I was going about it, nothing played off of each other and felt very icky? I opted for more natural colors, creates a better sense of what I was originally going for, this part isn't very significant but it was interesting to find out what works and doesn't, you can learn a lot from redrawing old works.

This was another part I struggled on, I purposely made One look wonky because I liked the sketch more than anything I could come up with. They really look stupid, don't they? I redrew it a bunch of times to incorporate the orange, but I did not want to base it off of the scene where One was counting down, that had a purpose for it, this did not. It was following the previous parts color, which has an overcast of orange, but I couldn't find a way for this to work without feeling unsatisfying. I opted for using a trio of blue+green+red, it could be seen as 123 but that wasn't intentional.. it was the only colors I thought could work with the lighting of One's TV, but hooray for unintentionality! It makes this part connected with the lore!

This part I put a lot of thought into! Something I found interesting about One's lounge is how it uses red+yellow+blue, the three primary colors, in design those colors are used to invoke a sense of familiarity and safety, and if you pay attention, these colors are used everywhere. this could or could not be intentional in the actual show, I do not believe they are, but I used this to my advantage as when One's walking past the figurines, the yellows increases, but when they figurines fall, the yellow fades into white to show while One tries to come across as trustworthy, their façade can be quickly broken. I put together a lot of notes for this part and drew a sketch for it too LOL

"The lights that shine" section's color were meant to be like this from the start, this was the first section I animated, they have a big contrast and yellow limbs, I only put that because I thought it looked cool, but the colors carried over to the other part where they look like this, and ended up using this palette to symbolize who was kidnapped by One. I had trouble deciding how the beams(?) that were coming out of the moon should look like though, this was what I was originally going to do. The placement of each contestant is important too, more to the front, the more they may be impacted by One. I wasn't sure between Gaty or Leafy to put in this section, since we don't know if either of them will/had contact with her, it was difficult to decide. I put Leafy instead because I didn't want to animate Gaty.

The chair for Gaty! No one mentioned this detail and I was a little sad about that - each time One's lounge is shown, there is a different chair for each contestant, if One took Gaty, it'd leave a bitter feeling if she used a similar chair to her and Two's hangout couch.. their hangout couch is already split in half, it's possible One could take half of it. The colors were based off of how the person who designed One's lounge uses colors, I used some of her personal artwork as reference, and also how the chairs shown in the lounge were designed, and each design has something to do with the characters, One's is big, to show importance and uses the primary colors, Fanny's is small and dark with shadows taking up most of it, Basketball's is big, modern and green to reflect her mechanic room, Gaty in TPOT is (unfortunately) mostly associate with Two and this couch, and is similar to a therapist's patients couch, it would fit her role and characterization in TPOT if I am right about this
This was the only section to use overlay, layer 6 and 5 were the only ones to be changing as stated in the notes, there's a lot of light changes in this sequence, and if you notice closely there's a red, a shadow casting from characters outside of ones shadow, and there's a bigger contrast between the lighting and shadows. The "lights that shine" section you'd think uses that, but everything was done manually, even the transitions colors
These are some storyboards for this, the handwriting is probably poor I apologize about that, I created this during school and I don't write neat/properly if I don't plan to show anyone it LOL

#i started writing this when u sent the ask then i got distracted sorry#i could go on and on about this but i tried staying to the original question#there was a lot of intention in each section (that rhymes!) each part tried to relate to the lyrics without being overbearing?#i dont like when AMVs only relate to the lyrics and dont do anything creative with it. like only lipsyncing for example#i didnt think id ever finish this but im glad i did. i havent animated something to a song in over a year#fun fact! i was originally going to do a different AMV with one. looking at the skecthes im glad i didnt go through with it#it was very bland and boring besides for the last part#BUT TYSM FOR ASKING i loved writing this

I had silly thoughts run into my mind, Regulus igniting Vertin's passion to do art again by showing her an abandoned wall and bringing spray paint.
Vertin is more traditionally on painting but she has known about spray paint and has been wanting to try them for a long time and Regulus gives her the opportunity to test them out.
When first picking up one of the spray cans, she's not sure what she wants to create, what type of mural or artwork. Vertin is pretty unfamiliar on how to work with such a big canvas, and with a tool she hasn't quite got the grasp of yet. Regulus comes back with a bunch of paint buckets and big and small paintbrushes "What are these for? " "To help us with the painting of course, I may not be the best at any painting stuff but this pirate is passionate in anything art based and the freedom of expression! " Regulus happily chimed.
Vertin was grateful but she's not sure what to make yet, so she asked Regulus who gave her one of the buckets of paint, puzzled, she looks at Regulus "what am I supposed to do with this? "
"Throw it of course! Throw it against the wall and watch it splatter, let it be messy, let your artwork be free. It has been awhile since you last painted yes? So why not let all your creative ideas out now? "
Vertin looks at Regulus and then to the paint bucket in her hands, the swirling color inside it, she knows what she needs to do. Taking a slight step back, she throws the paint out of the bucket towards the wall, making a huge splatter to it and some to themselves as well. Regulus let's out a cheer "There ya go! Now, Let's get painting!"
Splashes of colors added to the wall, the more added, the more Vertin felt free. The paint flowing down like raindrops, the lines of contrasting colors overlapping each other, using the spray paints to add more texture and little designs and details. It was messy yes, but it was free, Regulus smiling wildly as she continues to paint the already very colorful wall, this felt nice, it felt great. Vertin was smiling, laughing even at times where they get hit with splashes of paint, Regulus's joy has been contagious and seeing Vertin happy made Regulus even more joyful.
After finally finishing their artwork, both sat down on the ground, facing what they've created. It was a messy mural, with designs of their interest, a music disk, some doves, a golden thread, butterflies and much more. Both were covered in paint and colors, it'll take a while to get them off but that's the least of their worries for now. "I think this pirate can say that, that is one beautiful mural" "It is, thank you Regulus, for bringing me out here and doing this" "No problem, you've been cooped up in that office for days now, I think you deserved a break.. And you did tell me you liked painting so, this was the best idea I could come up with" "One of the ideas you had that didn't end in disaster *pfft*" "Oi-"
Both bickered for a bit, laughing and giggling like children. It's moments like these that make all the work and sacrifices worth it, even with the weight of responsibility of being the timekeeper, others are lending a hand to carry the weight, just like Regulus. Both sat there, as the sun sets and hope rebuilds.

Bonus:
As both sat quietly, a song from the radio that Regulus brought suddenly plays "Oh hell yeah! I love this song.. Say Vertin, do you dance? "
The timekeeper pondered for a bit and gave her an answer "I do, why? "
"Well, would you like to dance with this pirate? I think that'll be fun"Regulus stood up and stretched out her hand, Vertin, slightly surprised by the sudden request, but accepted it, taking Regulus's hand into hers.
" Though be aware that this pirate may not be the best at dancing, but will certainly try her best" It's been awhile since both had danced, and more so with someone but none of that mattered right now, they're just here to have fun. Dancing to the beat of the music, as both moved to the rhythm, a few slip up's here and there but is still going strong. Going with the flow of the music, both have actually made a good dancing pair, being able to move to the rhythm easily and adjusting their movements to near perfection. Despite not even having steps in mind, both have their own, synchronized and adapting as the music goes on. It felt like walking on air as they continued to dance, they kept this on till the music ended and both were exhausted.
"I must say, you're a great dancer Regulus"
"Thanks, you're not half bad yourself, we should do this more often" "I'll check if my schedule can free up a bit"
They realized that it was near dark soon, both headed back into the suitcase, walking and talking about their interest, plans and anything really. They've grown into each other's company, and they wouldn't have it any other way, a captain and her second best mate, a bellwether and her first follower.

Things were about as tense as you thought they would be,. You had never felt this uncomfortable in your own home until this very moment as you stood here with Dean. But you supposed for the sake of your own sanity, you knew you would have to break the ice somehow.
âMake yourself at home I guess, agent.â You spoke and motioned for him to have a seat on the couch.
Dean walked further into your home and he straightened up the jacket from his suit, uncertain if he should bother with taking it off or not. But then something caught his eye. Dean started walking towards wine of your bookshelves, the one that had several sketchbooks you had from over the years.
âYou mind if I have a look at one of these?â Dean asked.
You glanced over and saw he was looked it through your bookshelves. âSure, have at it.â
Then you sat down on your windowsill and picked up your current sketchbook once more so you could get back to work on the cover art you were asked to do. Meanwhile, Dean pulled out a random book and he was slowly going through the pages.
As Dean looked at your work, he was amazed at the detail you put into it. Youâve definitely improved your skills over the years, though back in the day he didnât know how you could have possibly gotten better. Obviously he was wrong.He continued to look through different sketchbooks but then there was one that he hadnât expected to find.
This one had a photograph of the two of you glued to the first page. Then as Dean flipped through the pages he realized you had drawn pictures of him, each of them were dated and from what he could tell you often wondered what he would look like over the years or even what he did for a living, judging from the different uniforms you drew him in.
âI didnât think youâre talents could get any better. You were already really good back then.â Dean finally spoke, but you ignored him.
Dean looked up at you and saw you were focused on your artwork. He closed the book he had in his palm before he put it back on the bookshelf and he walked over.
âWhat are you working on now?â He asked and started looking over your shoulder. He watched as you were drawing some sort of steampunk looking piece, as if it were some sort of Cinderella alternate reality.
âCover ideas.â Your shortness didnât surprise him but it still stung nonetheless. He let out a sigh before he tried to speak again.
âLook, at the bar I didnât mean for you to misunderstand anything. I was really happy to see you there.â
âDean, what was there to misunderstand? Youâre an agent here to do a job and walk right out of my life all over again, leaving me with no clue as to where youâre going or if you even care to see me ever again. Danielle was right. And I should have forgotten about you decades ago.â
âItâs not as heartless as it sounds. I canât afford to just catch up with anyone i want to, I canât afford any kind of closeness with anybody. You have no idea how many enemies Iâve made with this job, how many innocent lives have been ruined, how many people have gotten hurt or worse just because they knew me.â Dean tried to explain but you scoffed and tossed your sketchbook to the side.
âThatâs a cowardâs answer. Lots of FBI agents have families. That means theyâre brave enough to take the risk. But I get it, a simple conversation that isnât work related isnât worth the risk. Iâm not worth the risk, I get it.â
âY/N, thatâs not what Iâm saying!â
âIsnât it though? It may not be your exact words but thatâs the implication.â You got up from your spot and started walking to the kitchen.
Deanâs jaw tightened and his brows narrowed before he started to follow you into the kitchen.
âAlright, you want the truth?! This job sucks and Iâve gotten attached to people like you and the moment I let my guard down, ninety percent of the time those people die. Knowing me is a death sentence. My brother and I have lost too many people because of it. I canât let you die like that because some monster takes it upon itself to break in and gut you up just because you know me.â
You, under the impression Dean was using the word âmonsterâ as some term for a serial killer or some sick sort of human being, scoffed. âPlease, Iâm plenty capable of protecting myself against some killer. You make it sound like the Boogymanâs after you.â
âThe thing that killed your friend could easily kill you too and you canât protect yourself from any of them, Y/N! You donât know the kind of shit thatâs out there. I didnât expect you to be a part of this job and trust me if you werenât involved I wouldnât even be here.â
âThanks, Dean. That makes me feel a thousand times better. And what kind of thing do you think will come after me, huh? Nothing could be that bad. Bad people do eventually get caught.â You said and you opened the refrigerator door to grab something to drink.
Dean rubbed a hand over the lower half of his face, wondering if he really needed to risk telling you the truth after all. You were being so difficult but you didnât even understand the shit heâs ever seen.
âThe think thatâs killing your coworkers and your bossâ wife isnât just any bad guy. You have no idea what weâre going up against.â Deanâs voice was a little calmer, yet still deadly serious. You turned around to see if heâd elaborate or if heâd keep you in the dark just as he always has.
âThe business that I told you I was in with my brother and my dad⊠itâs sort of um.. a traveling extermination business. Sam isnât my partner in the FBI. Neither of us are agents. Heâs my brother, and we hunt monsters. Vampires, werewolves, demons, doppelgĂ€ngers⊠every ugly ass creature you can think of, weâve probably killed before.â Dean finally confessed.
Your brows arched upward with shock. This was the excuse Dean decided to give you? This was why he avoided you all these years and he really expected you to believe he was hunting monsters like Van Helsing? Yeah right.
âMonsters? Really? Dean if you arenât going to tell me the truth I think you should just leave. I donât want to see you around here anymore.â You said, growing angrier the more you saw him, hurting even more knowing he would lie to your face like this.
âY/N, name someone in this town that would gut innocent people and steal their hearts. Thatâs something a werewolf has been known to do in my field and they are stronger than you can handle.â He was still insisting you believe these lies?!
âDean, Iâm serious. Iâm not buying this story of yours, okay? Why donât you just go with Sam to make sure Danielle and her boyfriend are alright.â You said and when you went to brush past him, you felt his strong grip on your upper arm and you looked up at him.
âThis isnât just a story, Y/N. Itâs the ugly reality.â He told you and you searched his eyes.
What the hell had Dean seen over the years that made him so sincere about this? You swore he had to be crazy if he expected you to believe this whole monster thing like he believed it. But before you could ask any questions about it, Deanâs phone started ringing.
Dean sighed a little before he let go of your arm just to answer the phone, figuring it mustâve been Sam.
âSam? Whatâs happening?â
âDean, it was Danielleâs boyfriend. He was one of them. Danielle and I were safe and I took care of Chris but maybe one of his guys broke in and knocked me out or something. I canât find Danielle anywhere. They took her belongings too. I donât know where they could have taken her.â Sam said on the other line.
You mustâve heard bits and pieces of what Sam was saying because when Dean looked at you, he saw the stunned expression on your face and he watched as you started looking around to find your shoes to put on.
âAre you sure they took her? What if she had something to do with it? Did you do the test on her?â Dean asked.
âTest? What test? Dean what the hell is going on?!â You asked, wanting to know if your friend was alright. What test could they have possibly been talking about? None of this made any sense.
âIâll explain in a second just hang on, alright? Sam, how fast can you get here?â Dan asked, turning his attention back to his brother.
âI couldnât tell you. You and I may have to meet somewhere on foot. They took the car.â Sam said and Deanâs eyes went wide.
âYou let them take the car?! What happened to you being the responsible brother, huh?â Dean asked and he ran a hand through his hair.
âWait wait.. I found something. Dean itâs a notebook with all the workersâ addresses on them. Y/Nâs name is circled. Sheâs bound to be next and I donât see Danielleâs name anywhere on this list.â Sam explained and that was when Dean heard the familiar roar of the impala from outside.
âI think sheâs here. Sam, You need to find Nelson and find out what the hell happened on that hunt.â Dean said sternly and your brows narrowed with confusion.
âNelson? How can he be a part of this? What hunt are you talking about? Heâs not a hunting kind of guy.â You said, thinking Dean meant hunting wildlife and you still refused to believe this whole monster killing story.
Dean hung up the phone before he looked over at you while shoving the phone in his pocket, âYou need to go in your room. Lock the door and donât you dare come out until I tell you itâs safe.â
âNot until you tell me what the fuck is going on, Winchester! What happened to my friend?â
Dean shook his head, âShe stopped being your friend a long time ago. I need you to just trust me and stay out of the way until I tell you itâs safe. I promise Iâll explain everything when this is over.â
As much as you desperately wanted to argue with Dean, you could tell from the look on his face that he wasnât going to argue because this was no longer up for any debate, let alone discussion. You bit your tongue to keep from saying anything else and you walked towards your bedroom and shut the door behind you. But you didnât lock the door as Dean advised. If what Dean was saying was really true, then you had to see it for yourself.
Dean took the gun he had from behind his back and he made sure there was plenty of ammunition. Once he found he had plenty of silver bullets on him, he made sure to keep it on him so heâd be prepared for when Danielle would come in. No wonder she seemed hesitant to leave with Sam. She had a job to do and he was willing to bet she was the one that killed Callie. Some actress.
Before Dean could even think about anything else, the door was suddenly kicked down and not only was it Danielle that walked through the door but there were two guys that were about Samâs height dressed in leather like they were a couple of bikers from the bar or something. Sort of matched the charisma, or lack of, that Callieâs former boyfriend was talking about.
âWell well⊠You were just gonna spend the night with your friend and when she least expected it, youâd kill her like you killed Callie, huh?â Dean said as he lifted the gun to aim at their direction.
âOh what would you know. Nelson deserves what heâs got coming. But it serves him right to watch everything he worked for fall apart, just like he did with my fatherâs pack.â Danielle seethed.
You could faintly hear the conversation from behind your bedroom door and your heart sank. Danielle was going to kill you? That was why she asked if she could spend the night? Why would she do that? She was one of your good friends, or at least thatâs what you hoped. Clearly you were wrong, but what was this talk about a pack?
You reached up and carefully turned the knob, doing your best to keep quiet and you slowly started to open the door so you could hear things a little bit better. You simply cracked it open, not wanting to give your location away completely.
âCome on, you know Y/N better than anyone and you knew Callie better than anyone. You know damned well neither of them deserve what youâre doing to them. Theyâre good people and you know it.â You could hear Dean say but Danielle scoffed.
âMy father was a good man before your kind took it upon yourselves to massacre my family! We never hunted anyone, strictly animals because my father wanted to be civilized. Live under the radar and stay clear of hunters. But Nelson⊠Nelson decided all of us are the same ugly things that keep you up at night. When he killed my family there was anarchy. I took the lead and said to Hell with it, weâre going after Nelson in the most.. traditional.. way possible. Show him the monsters he wanted us to be.â You could hear Danielle say, but your heart sank down to your feet.
Dean was right, she mustâve never been your friend if this was her plan all along. You felt so naive, gullible and stupid.
âCome on, Danielle, donât make me pull this trigger on you and your friends. You think this is what your family would have wanted you to become?â Dean retorted.
âWho cares how I avenge them. This is how Iâm getting my payback against Nelson and Iâm not letting you, Sam, or any other hunter stand in my way.â Danielle said and from what you heard a fight broke out after that.
You heard furniture get moved around, you flinched at the sound of a vase shattering to the floor. Slowly, you moved to where you could look through the crack in the door. You finally saw the truth of what was out there. Your friend and her two companions had fangs, their fingernails turned to claws, their eyes changed color. You couldnât believe what you saw, and you didnât think werewolves could possibly be real. All of it felt so unbelievable.
Your eyes widened when you saw Dean get knocked to the ground. You didnât know what to do but you could tell that Dean was starting to lose the fight. Everything in your was screaming to help him but you didnât know how to fight these things. What if you did something wrong and Dean died because of you?
Still, as Dean was wrestling with one of the werewolves on the floor you saw him drop the gun and the weapon slid on the ground towards your door. This was your chance to do something. You just hoped that things wouldnât go wrong.
You took in a deep breath before you opened the door wider and stepped out of the room.
Dean heard the door creaking open and he saw you standing there. Were you nuts?! What the hell were you doing?!
âY/N! Get back inside!â He called out but he watched as you ignored him and rushed to get to the gun and you picked it up.
You could feel your heart beating fast and before you could think, you realized one of the wolves was coming after you and you aired the gun and you closed your eyes before you took a shot. When you opened one of your eyes, you saw that the werewolf was on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The werewolf above Dean was distracted by the gunshot and when the creature looked over at you, Dean took the opportunity take a shot and kick the werewolf off of him. Then, Dean rushed over to you while you were stunned about what youâve done.
âItâs okay, Y/N. You did what you needed to, now go back to the room and Iâll finish up.â Dean said and you hesitantly nodded as you backed away and stayed in your room but you couldnât help but to keep watching everything unfold in front of you.
You watched as Dean was fighting both Danielle and the other man she came with and Dean managed to shoot the man Danielle was with and she knocked out your former friend. The next thing you knew, Dean stood over the unconscious creature and shot her in the heart so sheâd never wake up again.
You didnât know what you should be feeling in that moment. Should you be angry that Danielle was never your friend, but a monster? Should you be angry that Dean had knocked out the person you thought was your ally?
When you slowly walked out of your bedroom again you walked over to your friend. You saw the claws on her fingers and her fangs still showed. You wondered if this was just some sort of never-ending nightmare. You didnât know what you were supposed to do and it felt like you had been blind to so many things your entire life. Your world was turning upside down.
Dean saw the look on your face as you looked down at the corpse. He could tell you were questioning so many things right now and he never wanted things to be this way. He never wanted you to get wrapped up in this horrific bullshit of a hunting life and he never wanted you to know what was out there.
âDo you believe me now?â He asked softly, but you gave him no response.
âY/N⊠I never wanted you to find out about any of this. Thatâs why I never told you much about my family or what we did.â He said in a gentler tone and you ran your fingers though your hair.
âWell now I know, Dean. I canât just unsee everything that just happened.â You said softly and you felt a soft hand on your shoulder. You looked up and saw Dean looking up at you.
âIs it at least over now?â You asked.
âIâm not sure. It should be over if Danielle was the leader of this new pack, but I have to check with Sam if there were any indications of any other members of the pack and if he got in contact with Nelson again.â Dean replied and you looked back down at the body.
âShe was the sweet one out of the three of us. She seemed so concerned about Callie when we hadnât heard from her for several days⊠I never wouldâve seen the attack coming.â
Dean frowned a little when you spoke, knowing all of this had to be a lot to take in for you.
âLet me call Sam and see if heâs got everything squared away on his end, if he was able to talk to Nelson and everything.â He said and you nodded as you walked away from the bodies and went to your bedroom again.
Dean watched you walking away, knowing your life was forever altered at this point. He pulled out his phone again and he dialed up Samâs number. Luckily he didnât need to wait long for an answer.
âDean? Are you guys okay?â
âYeah⊠turns out Danielle wasnât as innocent as she lead on. She and two other wolves are dead.â
âHow did Y/N take all of it? She alright?â
âHonestly I donât know, Sammy⊠It might take her a little time with Danielle specifically. You get in contact with Nelson?â
âWell⊠yes and no.â Sam replied and Dean lifted a brow.
âWhat do you mean?â
âWell when I tried calling him there was no answer. So I took a taxi to his house and when I walked in, it looked like another attack. I guess someone caught word that you were facing the new leader and they wanted to make sure the main goal was accomplished so it looks like they killed Nelson before I had the chance to talk to him.â
âShit⊠so what does that mean? Do you think theyâll still go after people working in the bar?â Dean asked.
âIâm not so sure⊠I think we may need to stay a few days and lie low to see what happens. Itâs better to be safe than sorry.â Sam insisted and Dean looked over at your bedroom and saw you sitting on the corner of your bed, disassociating because of everything that transpired.
âYeah⊠That might the best option. You think you can swing by to help me take care of these bodies and get Y/N somewhere safe? You said the werewolves had addresses in that notebook right? I think she may need to stay with us for a few days just incase anyone tries to go after her again.â Dean insisted.
âYeah, just give me about fifteen minutes and Iâll be there.â
When Sam and Dean hung up, Dean walked over to the bedroom and towards you. He knelt in front of you and saw you were just spacing out and thinking of so many different things, he could practically see it on your face how lost you were.
âHey, youâre gonna be okay. I promise.â He said and he placed a hand on one of your knees, which broke your trance and you looked down at his hand then back at him.
âDean⊠Iâve never even shot a gun at a person before⊠I just killed someone.â You said in such a timid little tone.
âY/N, youâve got to realize that wasnât a person. None of them were. Not anymore. They would have killed you, your coworkers, and who knows who else they would have killed if you hadnât helped stop them.â
âDanielle⊠was a person to me. I canât believe she lied to me like that. Then again what the hell do I know about anything anymore. You must think Iâm so stupid for not listening to you before.â You scoffed and your eyes started welling up with tears, one slipping from your face and you swiftly wiped it away.
âItâs natural to have doubts. I know what I was telling you is hard for a lot of people to believe. I wasnât expecting you to believe me instantly. Stuff like this isnât easy to take in.â he continued and you looked back at Dean again.
âWhat am I supposed to do now? Where do I go from here? Am I going to get in trouble with the police? Surely my neighbors heard the gunshots.â You started to ramble.
âThe cops are bound to show, but they still think Sammy and I are FBI agents. We claim self defense which unfortunately ended in fatalities.â Dean answered.
âYou make it sound so simple.â
âThis isnât my first rodeo, Sweetheart.â Dean said before he moved his hand from your knee and he held one of your hands.
âBut as far as beyond the police are concerned⊠We donât know if there are more werewolves. So after Sam and I handle the police when they come, I think it would be better if you stayed with me and Sam. Just for a few days until we know there wonât be anymore attacks against you or any of your other coworkers. They have your address so we donât think youâll be safe here right now.â He continued.
You bit down on your bottom lip before you nodded a little, deciding to go with Dean after all. You didnât exactly want to be alone after tonight, but maybe youâd be alright after a few days.
âOkay⊠Let me pack some clothes before I go with you.â
A few days went by and things seemed to settle down. You had found out Nelson passed away and the cops connected Danielle to the murders so they believed Deanâs claim of self defense. Not that you were really surprised. Dean seemed to be a pretty good liar when it came to the cops.
There werenât anymore threats against you at least that you knew of, and now that itâs been a week of silence, Dean said it was safe for you to go back home and now you were riding with him in the impala.
The car ride was quiet, as if the both of you knew this week long journey was coming to a close and you werenât sure if you would ever see him again. You wouldnât be surprised if you didnât see him again, knowing heâd more than likely say the same things as he did in the argument before the attack. It was disheartening to know that Dean didnât want to take a chance.
When the two of you made it to your apartment, it was like nothing had ever happened. Only because Sam and Dean went out of their way to clean up the bodies. Naturally some things did need some replacing like the vase, or the living room couch that had been splattered with blood, but you would get those things on your own since you had been looking into buying a new couch anyway. But it was sweet that Sam and Dean took it upon themselves to help as much as they could.
âWell⊠I guess this is the part where I take off.â Dean said and you looked over at him.
âWhy donât you stay for dinner? Iâm a crummy cook but I can order something. My treat. Itâs really the least I can do after you saved me and helped clean the place up after everything.â You insisted.
Lucky for you, Dean didnât really put up much of a fight so he followed you into your home. Dean sat at one of the love seats since you no longer had a couch at the moment and you sat down on the recliner as you pulled out your laptop to see what you should order.
âChinese sound alright to you?â You asked and Dean smiled a little.
âWhatever you want to orderâs fine.â He replied and you pouted a little.
âDean, this is supposed to be for you as a thank you. I need a little help here since Iâm not exactly a mind reader.â You said and Dean let out a little chuckle before he tried to think.
âWhat about a burger and some fries?â He said then it was your turn to smirk.
âDiner food again? Sure.â You snickered, âWant anything else with that?â
âMaybe some pie.â Dean said and somehow you knew that was a must, considering he just went through a whole pie in three days during the week you stayed with them.
âSure thing.â You insisted and you started placing the order online for delivery and a couple of minutes later, the order was completed.
âIt should be here in thirty minutes or so.â You said, shutting your computer and you set it down on the coffee table.
âYou know you didnât have to order anything.â Dean replied and you smiled.
âAgain, itâs the least I could do.â You insisted
You and Dean were watching a show just to think of how to kill some time but the two of you settled on some sort of cartoon. You and Dean couldnât find anything decent so the Boomerang channel seemed to be a better option at least for the time being.
âDean?â
âHmm?â
âYou donât⊠have to hit the road after today, do you?â You asked and Dean looked at you.
âWell⊠I mean thatâs what I normally do with cases. I never really stay in the same place for a long time. Thereâs a lot more than just werewolves to worry about and⊠and well itâs better if Sam and I kept on moving.â He said, looking away from you even though he could still feel your gaze on him.
âDonât you ever just slow down? Catch a break? Surely there are other hunters out there that can handle the stuff you do.â You said and Dean shook his head.
âNot really⊠the stuff Sam and I see⊠theyâre pretty much apocalyptic and we canât put that on anyone else. Itâs our responsibility, our burden to bare and itâs a death sentence to bring anyone else into it.â He said and you scoffed a little, causing him to look at you again.
âWhat?â
âYou and your liking for the cowardâs way out.â You said, recalling the argument again when he gave a shitty excuse as to why he didnât get close to people.
âItâs not a cowardâs way, Y/N. Itâs reality. You saw yourself whatâs out there. And Iâm risking a lot just being here right now.â He said and you rolled your eyes before you got up and went to your room.
Dean lifted a brow before he got up and followed you. When he did he noticed you were looking for something and he couldnât help but tilt his head as he leaned against the doorframe.
âWhat are you doing?â He asked.
âLooking for something.â
âI can see that.â He said and watched you pull out a box. He didnât see a whole lot inside until you pushed it towards the end of the bed. Thatâs when he saw a few shirts and cassettes, mementos of that summer.
âYou donât realize how many lives you affect when you travel, Dean. I know I canât possibly be the only girl youâve come across just to leave behind. And from what I can tell, Iâm not the only one that could have died but survived. But when you just leave people behind you take a piece of them with you and itâs like you donât even realize it. Youâre too blind with the whole idea of keeping your distance that you donât realize the people you hurt along the way by not giving them a chance.âYou began and Dean lifted a brow.
âY/N, Iâve gave people chances and they still lose their lives. Youâre right, you arenât the only woman Iâve come across. But once I get too close they get killed. The last one got hurt severely so I had a friend erase her memory to forget everything about me. Itâs to keep her safe and I canât lose anyone else.â He told you.
âDo you realize how youâre making yourself sound, Dean?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âAs far as hunting, youâre bound to be one of the strongest men that I know. Not that I know many- obviously. But what makes you a coward and what makes you selfish is the fact that you canât allow yourself to be close to someone long enough to know if theyâre willing to stay with you even if this life is tough. Hunting is scary shit, I know that now. But you donât deserve to go through it alone. Itâs unfair to you.â You said.
âI donât deserve that sort of fairness. If you knew half the things Iâve done-â
âDo you think any of that matters to me, Dean?â You set the box down on the floor again before you walked towards him.
âI donât know much of what youâve done all these years, and I donât know the pain youâve gone through. But I know that no one should ever have to be alone like that. I can tell just by looking at you that youâve been through a lot. You deserve to have someone by your side to at least give you some sort of relief from this life every once in a while, give you a break from your âapocalypticâ stressors.â You said and took a bold move by taking one of his hands.
Dean looked down at your hand with his before lifting his gaze to meet your own.
âBut what happens if you get hurt, or worse? I canât stand that risk, not with someone like you.â He said gently and you sighed a little before you gave his hand a little squeeze.
âDidnât you ever think about me accepting that risk? You can teach me a lot and Iâm willing to learn. Obviously I wonât have as much experience as you and I never will, but you can teach me enough to defend myself so you wonât have to worry about me so much.â You were trying so hard to compromise and Dean could tell.
What seemed to surprise Dean the most was that you were actually willing to learn how to hunt. You were actually willing to be a part of this much shittier side of life. It was amazing that out of the choices you had, this was the one you were willing to make.
âWhat about your art? Or the bar?â He asked and you shrugged.
âI can still work on art. The bar was just to keep my lights on. And now that both my friends are dead⊠I donât really have anything keeping me bartending.â You explained.
âBut what if-â
âStop with the what ifs and the hypotheticals. Please?â You said, practically begging him to stop trying to make excuses for you to not join him. You didnât have anything left going for you here.
Dean looked down at the floor between both of you as he tried to think of his best options. So many things swirling through his head about how things could go wrong. How would be able to protect you? How quickly would you be able to learn everything heâd have to teach you? If anything they could always use the help with research while he and Sam were on the field. But what happens if you were researching while he and Sam were out on the field working and something happened to you while he wasnât there?
You could practically see the gears turning in his mind with how so many things could go wrong and you reached up, touching his face gently.
âThis is the kind of thing Iâm talking about. Youâre thinking about so much already. You have so much on your shoulders, I can see it.â You said softly and he started looking at you, gaze softening as he started to relax against your touch.
âYou donât deserve to carry that stressâŠâ You whispered and leaned up and placed a kiss on his cheek, close to his mouth.
âLet me be at least some sort of distraction.â He listened to your voice barely above a whisper and he could barely feel your lips against his cheek.
Dean carefully moved his head and your faces were so close to each other. One small movement and heâd have his lips over yours if either of you simply leaned forward.
âDo you think you could handle everything youâd distract me from?â He asked, his mind slowly starting to open up to the idea of you coming along even if he still had an overwhelming reluctance within himself. Still, he felt your thumb lightly graze his cheekbone.
âI wouldnât be asking to go with you if I wasnât willing to try. I could never fathom everything. Youâve been through, but I can try to make it easier even if itâs for a moment.â
Dean tucked his bottom lip between his teeth as if he were still thinking about it before he lifted a hand and brought it to the back of your neck. He felt the way you seemed to melt into him but all he could think of was how he let Jo and Lisa down.
âPlease⊠just give me a chance.â Your voice broke him from his thoughts, or at least a strand of them. Only to start a new strand.
Dean started to think of the two weeks he spent with you. Those two weeks he had never felt so normal, even happy because of you. It was like the hunting world hadnât even existed for that amount of time when he was with you even if he was supposed to be working on a job. Seeing you happy and realizing he could make the world safe, make sure you were safe, thatâs what gave him the reason to hunt that summer. He thought back to the drawing you had given him, knowing he had never forgotten you over the years and knew he never could. He remembered the way you made him feel and a part of him now was screaming not to let you go like that again. John wasnât in the picture anymore to lecture him like a child about who he told about hunting. He was a grown man and you were a grown woman, and you were begging him to take you along. He knew you were capable after watching you kill one of the werewolves when you were attacked. So why shouldnât you come along?
He remembered just how Jo passed, how so many others have passed and who heâs lost and his jaw tightened for a moment.
âYou have to promise me that youâll listen to everything I tell you on a hunt, swear that youâll listen to every precaution Sam and I tell you. When there is a plan, you stick to the plan so you donât get hurt.â He said, tone stern with a certain gentleness about it.
You softened, realizing that heâd likely be so cautious with you and you wondered just how many people heâs lost with this life. But you knew thatâs something you might never know. You could tell it was taking a lot for him to even think about you coming along.
âPromise.â You swore.
Dean then leaned down and he was so close to pressing his lips on yours. Your noses barely brushed against each other with how close he was and eat somehow he was already at ease. He didnât know exactly what made it so easy, but it had felt like ages since he was able to feel this calm, decades since his mind finally slowed down just because of a small action like this.
The abrupt sound of someone knocking on the door interrupted the moment and the both of you pulled away before you had the chance to kiss. The voice on the other side of the door alerted you that it was just the delivery guy. He heard the way you sighed with a little irritation and he cracked a small smile at the reaction.
He let go of you so you could tend to the guy at the door. After you paid the guy you set the food on the coffee table just as he was walking out of your bedroom. You were in the process of pulling everything out of the plastic bags but Dean kept his gaze on you.
âIâm not kidding, though.â Dean said, his mind going back to the roller coaster it always was, but you gazed up at him.
âI know youâre serious. Iâm not a child, Dean. Iâll be careful, but you and Sam will still need to teach me a few things. Plans have to change sometimes and we have to adapt. Nothing in life is cut and dry so youâll have to trust me to take care of myself too.â You said, and that was the part Dean may have the issue with at least for a while.
âThat⊠may take me a little time to do.â He warned and you walked over and handed him the bag with his burger in it.
âNaturally.â You replied and he was surprised you were taking this so well.
âIâm not expecting things to be smooth right away and for you to be so nonchalant with me on a hunt. So long as youâll eventually be able to trust me on these things, then itâll be fine. Iâm a bit of a fast learner so weâll get there eventually.â You promised before you sat down.
Dean listened and smiled slightly. He knew youâd need that determination. Itâd be a good thing to have especially when he and Sam were both so close to having enough when it came to facing demons and angels. But trust.. he knew that would be the biggest thing heâd need to work on.
Dean knew he could trust you with certain things. He could trust your willingness to learn, trust your ability to adapt to a changed plan quickly, but he didnât trust other factors of a case and when things would inevitably go wrong. Maybe the more youâd be around, the more heâd get better at that.
Either way⊠it would be nice to have you around, at least to let him forget about his own personal hell once in a while.
âYou gonna join me or am I going to have to eat and watch Scooby Doo by myself?â You asked, breaking Dean away again. He smiled before he walked over to join you in the living room where you moved the seats closer to the coffee table.
One day it will be easier to let his worries go, easier to let the weight on his shoulders get a little lighter, and Dean hoped that maybe, just maybe, youâd be the one that could help him along that journey.

Calling Gravity falls artists!
Firstly, I love you all your art is so scrumptious mwah mwah mwah mwah!!.
Okay now to the casting call?? Listing?? Idk the term BUT! I am in the process of scripting out and designing a 80s Stan pines Dating SIM bwah bwah!
I'm planning to do the sprite work as I'm pretty good at replicating the gravity falls style.
But! For CGS, the Game Cover(?) (and / or backgrounds, maybe still deciding), I'm hoping to find an art style with a bit more - Pizzaz!!!!
**I am more than willing to pay! Your art is beautiful, and you deserve to be compensated!!!!**
Now some details about what it would look like:
- I will come to you for a few different cgs for both a Ford and Stan route in a stretched out period of time (meaning not all of once, not only because I don't want to overwhelm, but so that I can fully decide on a scene make sure it's fully what I want before coming to you for the CG for it, I don't want to think I know what I want then fully change my mind and then ya know this CG your either working on or finished now doesn't apply)
-We can talk through DM's , email (Tho my email rarely gives me notifications, so if I respond late, I'm sorry), Discord. Wherever makes you the most comfortable, artwork probably should be shared through either Drive or Email, though since Dependant on Size, most sites will kind of crunch them.
-You will receive FULL credit!!! This one feels like a given, but the internet is wild, and I've seen this misconception happen. Just because I'm paying for your art doesn't mean you don't also get credit. Credit your commissioners' kids.
-You get to set the price on your own art! Far be it from me to tell *you* what your time and effort is worth.
-communication is very important, I do work full time, but if I'm free and you need to talk to me, I'm more than open! If I don't get back to you within a day or so, feel free to give me a friendly little reminder that the notification has been lost.
-I will provide reference sheets that don't follow the canon (like other outfits or hair styles or whatever)
- as part of talking out each piece, I'd like a quote on price and a rough?? Idea?? On when it may be completed (Note: that is not like a strict deadline or anything. I understand things happen! Like i said, just pop me a message saying it can't be finished by 'blank', maybe 'blank' or just that you don't know! I won't bite! I'm an artist! I get it!

Hi, and thank you for thinking about me for advice! I'm honoured to share a bit of my process, nerve-wracking as that is for my shy self, and hopefully help you out as much as I can. Forgive me if I don't express myself very clearlyâI have a bit of a hard time explaining these things. Now, let's get started, shall we?
I'll be using the first panel of this artwork as an example.
My process is pretty straight-forward for most artworks. Make a sketch, draw the lineart, and follow a self-made guideline for coloring and rendering.
Sometimes I'll throw the guideline to the trash bin and start experimenting with brushes and chiaroscuro and color palettes, but that doesn't happen most of the time and, when it does, it's more a challenge than anything else, and not really what I think you're looking for.
I'll include my usual steps here, however, and like I said earlier, these steps are more like what you'd call guidelines than actual rules.

This is the lineart!
I tend to think that details bore me and are actually pretty exhausting to do, but then I go and make things as clear and detailed as I can. Because I'm a hypocrite like that.
I did try to keep things simple here, though, mostly because I had to go through three other panels and didn't want to burn out my fuel mid-process.

It's time for shadows!
Pick a color depending on the atmosphere you want the artwork to have. Is it a cozy, warm scene in a honey-tinted room, or is it a moment shared under the moonlight? The color choice should come as an answer to those questionsâdeep red for the first one and dark blue for the second.
Choose a color and make it dark and saturated. Then, play with the layer opacity! A darker shadow means harsher light, while less opacity works best for a softer look. See the difference? It's subtle, but it's there.

Of course, this is my personal choice. The way shadows are drawn and color is chosen depends on the artist and the artwork. I choose to play with a more simple coloring style, keeping shadows from blending into each other, but you may like a more realistic approach to shadows and colors.
My best advice? Try doing it every way you can, but in the end choose what works best for you. Whatever feels more comfortable, whatever you enjoy drawing the most. And then work to improve it. Love the little proof that you've gotten better, even if it's subtle.
And talking about subtlety...

I love to play with gradients. I use them mostly to give the artwork some form of atmosphere, and make it look cohesive and whole. A light gradient in the color and direction of the shadows will help the characters blend with the background, as will another gradient in lighter colors for the light.
Get creative with gradients! Use them so the lights feel brighter and the shadows darker.

Now it's time to work with the lineart again.
The pure black lineart makes the artwork look harsher, sharper, so I tend to give it some color to soften its edges and compliment the rest of the drawing. In darker shades as the rest of the colors, growing more saturated as the light comes closer.
I love to make the characters' eyes pop and glow! It's really fun what you can do by just messing a bit with the tones of the lineart.
Finally, I play with the level correction. A high contrast will help your artwork stand out and look brighter. See the difference?

And it's done!
Sometimes I like to add other effects or details, but this is the very, very rough shape of my usual process, and thus what I thought you'd like to see.
Once again, I'd like to point out that this is what works for me, and a large part of improving as an artist is just fooling around and messing up until you find the tools and tricks you're most comfortable with.
So keep drawing those muddy shadows and colors! They're only a step of the process.

Wally and the Colour RED
Wally and the colour Red have an interesting relationship in Welcome Home. This is a rambling/analysis of different things I've found that makes me believe it's an important detail moving forwards with the Welcome Home Mystery!
First! Why do I think this matters?
There's a few reasons why I think this matters! First, while all the members of the cast seem to be tied to a colour, none is as focused or as consistent as Wally and the colour red! The two primary examples I'll use to cover this is one that we've had for a while, and two that we got in this update. Those being the signatures at the bottom of the guestbook, the interactable telephone, and the name graphics on the transcript page!
Interestingly, all of the cast are directly tied to a specific colour! The signatures at the bottom of the Guestpage and the colours of the "calls" on the telephone are the same for each character. This being pink for Julie, orange for Sally, yellow for Frank, green for Poppy, turquoise for Howdy, blue for Barnaby, purple for Eddie, and red for Wally. This is consistent (and possibly something to pay attention for in the future?)
Notably however, Home is signed by Wally, while the audio file for Wally's "call" recording is also called "duet" when you open it in another tab. Audio files with "duet" is a sign that Home is present. This means that red is not strictly a Wally colour, but also the colour for Home!
(if you're curious, the other audio called "duet" is Wally's little song he sings)
This is interesting, because Wally and Home are often treated as a duo, moreso than any other characters of Welcome Home. I would also like to point out another detail, one that I think ties into this tie between Wally, Home and the colour red.
The Records
All the records from Wally's hidden message ("I will help you understand neighbor, I will find a way soon.") are red! Sure, some are glitched, but they are all red. As is this record with the strange audio (has anyone decoded this yet?). This audio is directly tied to Wally, as it's called "(DRAWING?) WITH WALLY DARLING".
However the hidden one's may not just be Wally. Though they are all name the tab "answer" when opened, I'm tempted to say that "answer" is wally prompting us to answer (or, alternatively, Wally is trying to answer us, however he perceives us).
I believe that Home is there too in the audio. If you listen to all of them in a row, turning up the audio will reveal that there is a heart beat in the background. This, I want to say, is Home and not Wally, as Wally does not seem to register them. It peaks about halfway through with Neighbor, coincidentally the audio that is both glitching and is made of a series of clicks rather than voice lines.
I have seen people say that this is "Help Me" or "Hello" in morse code. I do not know which is the agreed translation is (to me it sounds like "âŠ. . ..-.. .. -.. ---", which translates to "HEÄIDO", which is not a word. However it most resembles "âŠ. . .-.. .-.. ---" which translates to "HELLO")
Regardless of what Home may be saying, it shows that the hidden recordings can be put together into a timeline that sounds like one recording, which means it's most likely all recorded at the same place. Ergo, Home is in the hidden recordings as well!
Other spots where red is brought up
There are other instances of red being tied to Wally. Some are obvious, like his love of apples (red ones specifically), the Wally prints/finger paint on the bottom of the guestbook, the background of the "i <3 Wally" gif/sticker in the sticker section of the site (also shared with Home. Wally's character description is also shared by home!), Wally himself in the "so-below" page, among other things. Such as the Wally themed telephone being red, despite his more iconic blue swirled hair (or blue and yellow-trimed sweater), his clothing in multiple official artworks, the Wally cereal box, and more.
(Like something I've noticed, which is that Home is the only house that's a solid colour (red!) without any pattern breaking it up, plus the most "standout" red that Wally typically wears being tied around his neck (symbolism?). Plus the "W" of Welcome Home is red! That's fun too!
There's also some... stranger ones. Such as this hidden piece of morse code found by this person, which spells out ".. -- .-. . -..", or "IM RED" when translated to english.

And more hidden ones too, that tie into the hidden staff page (I have a post breaking that down that you can find here!! I cover everything I could find plus went through the website code, if you want to know everything about the secret staff site check it out!)
There is the red safe, which has in WHRP universe lore!! I delve into this in my other post, just know that it is something that exists both in the secret website (it is what introduces you to the hidden website!) AND it exists in the WHRP world, both written about in printed emails and as a physical object seen within The Room:tm:. You may also notice everyone is represented by their original colours, except for home, who is now white (or blank?).
There's also scrap pieces of red paper spilled on the ground in The Room:tm: (that have drawn spirals), a red clock in the style of Wally's red car, a red painting of some sort on the wall of The Room:tm: (that we never get a good look at, though it may have a drawn yellow eye in the upper center), a red apple, and most importantly of all, this:
The Red Notebook
This is no ordinary notebook. This here is the notebook that the WHRP team have "loaned" the Question Answerer, also known as the Head Curator of Question Answer! according to the printed emails. This book is very important because there are multiple signs that it was written by Wally. Inside is a sketchpad attached to the lefthand interior bookcase with little paintings and a handprint suspiciously similar to that on the bottom of the GuestBook page and doodles in the styles Wally has used (spirals, finger paint smiley face, the drawn apple, etc).
(by the way, if you're interested in what the note says the most accurate translation I've found is by Tumblr user truckfreaks
"Hello,
My name doesn't matter. I am here to catalogue something I'm not sure is fully real. But it must be. I'm holding all the evidence in my hands. Pictures. Characters. Text I can barely read. It's called "Welcome Home" and it looks like it might've been a children's book? Like I said, I can't tell.
It was sopping wet when I found it. When I first reached into one of the brightly colored envelopes, my hand was already covered in some gross, [unknown - possibly âoozingâ] material. It feels like antiques are always covered in some kind of grime. I'm trying to clean up what I have and do a little more digging.
There's only one name I can make out right now... Wally. Probably important, but like I said, I'll keep looking.

The wrap up (don't want to make this too long!)
Regardless of what you make of this, it shows that there is even more proof of Wally, not just the character but the Wally ""haunting"" the website and the Wally within the WHRP universe, all being tied to the colour red. (Quick clarification: The Wally we see in branding, clips of the show, etc are all Wally, however he isn't current Wally. He is the Wally of the past, the original Wally, the base Wallly, whatever you want to call him. Therefore I separate him from the "now" Wally. It's unconfirmed whether the Wally that's seemingly trying to communicate with us through the website is the same as the Wally that seems to be related to all the objects being sent to Question Answerer, who is the same Wally that is constantly calling them. If so, then there is only one "now" Wally. If they are separate, then there are two, possibly one in the website itself and one focusing on Question Answerer. Please note, this is all speculation).
While it's true that red is Wally's favourite colour, I believe that it's far more than just that tying Wally and the color red together. Going forwards, anything red that isn't immediately branded as a Wally related object should be considered important, at least I think so.
As for the connection between Wally and Home, both sharing the colour Red? I think this primarily is a display of how the two characters either rely on each other or are, in the vaguest of ways, tied together by fate.

No. 52 - Alaska Airlines XĂĄat KwĂĄani and Salmon-Thirty-Salmon Liveries
Did you think I was done with Alaska Airlines?
No, this is actually my last post about them for now (though, mark my words, you will be seeing a post about the Gold Nugget Jet in the not-too-distant future - I just feel like we need a break from nothing but consecutive posts about the same airline, and I have other things I want to cover). But it's something that's both requested and which I've wanted to talk about for some time.
In my last post I discussed the identity of the man on the Alaska Airlines tailfin. It wasn't a major part of the story, only taking up a small piece, but I did touch on how ChatGPT apparently will lie when asked about the background of the livery. Not only does it falsely attribute the livery to Fred Kabotie, who I'm sure had more important things to do, but it also falsely claims Fred Kabotie, who was Hopi, to be Tlingit. As it turns out, though, Alaska Airlines does have a livery designed by a Tlingit artist.

Crystal KaakeeyĂĄa Rose Demientieff Worl is a Tlingit artist known for large public artwork which heavily incorporates indigenous artistic traditions and visual motifs across many mediums. Some of her previous work includes large-scale murals in Alaska and throughout the world and guardrail panels at Juneau International Airport. She feels like the most natural choice possible to design an airliner livery, given the scale and diverse canvases she works with, and in May of this year the airplane you can see looming behind her was unveiled in a brand new livery that I, and a lot of other people, immediately fell in love with.
It's safe to say that this is one of the most ambitious and unique special liveries out there. XĂĄat KwĂĄani (which means 'salmon people' in Tlingit) is a beautiful and one-of-a-kind take on the often-noticed resemblance airplanes have to fish.
Salmon fishing is huge in Alaska, both now and historically. Today fishing is a major part of the Alaskan economy and something many people making a living off, but historically they were even more directly responsible for making the difference between life and death for those who lived beside them. A major source of food, they were literally life-bringing to indigenous societies, necessary to survival. Humans and salmon were part of the same ecosystem.
Independent of this fact, airplanes seem to lend themselves to comparisons to sea creatures. They may be called 'birds', but time and time again other people confirm that I'm not just imagining it, they do distinctly look like cetaceans and fish. Very early on in this blog the fact that 747s look like Humphead Wrasse was discussed. Amakusa Airlines, Japan Transocean Air, and Southwest Airlines have all leaned into this fish resemblance, and I'm sure over time my sea creature plane tag will continue to grow. This genre of livery will never cease to delight me.
I think it's fairly predictable that I always loved N559AS, the brilliantly named salmon-thirty-salmon plane. I was devastated when I learned that the livery was going to be removed. I mean...just look at her.
The salmon-thirty-salmon was a very unconventional take on the fish-plane, using a much more realistic drawing than any other attempt. It doesn't even try to transform the plane itself into the fish, which I think is potentially a smart way of accepting the limits of doing so. Instead, it fully displays the honestly hilarious and adorable face that salmon have while providing a nice canvas, a bit of water for the salmon to be carried on. At the same time it incorporates thoughtful details like the scales on the interior winglets, and the way the salmon's body is aligned with the empennage and nose feels very precisely done. It can create a somewhat uncanny doubling effect from a few angles, but by no means is it enough to rob the livery of its charm or elegance.
The salmon-thirty-salmon gets an A.
I've lived near the ocean my whole life. I love fish. I loved this plane. I was heartbroken when I learned the livery was going to serve its final milk run before rolling into the hangar for the very last time, coming out repainted and lost forever. It's always a bitter pill to swallow when airlines retire special liveries, particularly when it involves the plane being repainted into the standard colors. A lot of other people were sad to see this design go too.
What we didn't know was that this was not the end of the salmon-thirty-salmon. She was not lost, but transformed. When she emerged from the hangar again she was not wearing Alaska Airlines' default colors but something even more eye-catching, a livery honoring the same fish but with extra layers of meaning added by means of an intricate and beautiful new design.
Costs, materials, and man-hours used to paint an airplane vary dramatically from case to case, livery to livery, model to model, airline to airline. The numbers in my description are somewhat conservative estimates used for comedic value. Alaska Airlines actually gave some numbers for XĂĄat KwĂĄani - twelve days, 117 gallons of paint. The colors used are Midnight Blue and Atlas Blue for the background, White for the fish themselves, and Pink for highlights, and a clear coat has been applied over the top in order to preserve the livery. Alaska Airlines has every intention of keeping it intact for as long as possible.
The use of colors is beautiful. The waves of darker and lighter blue keep it from ever looking too light or too dark, adjusting to the lighting in order to always remain saturated and vivid, and the irregular wave pattern keeps any part of the livery from looking static. The use of the pink as a highlight is sparing but effective. The white, though, is what makes this livery so fantastic. A central tenet of this blog is a disdain for the dominant trend of livery design in recent history, Eurowhite - that of an almost entirely white fuselage. And there is a legitimate sense of general derision for white, but it can be so powerful as a design feature. There is no contrast more powerful than a stark and complete absence, a space carved out fully from the world and color around it. It is the color of bone and snow.
The balance of each color is just perfect, the blue never overpowering the white, the white never fully blocking out the blue, the pink subtly adding depth throughout, and the shapes of the salmon are placed perfectly, not feeling cramped or confined. They are free to wander the fuselage and they have an amazing sense of movement to them, as if caught mid-leap. I've seen salmon swimming upstream to spawn, and they are so startlingly large and vivacious. The fish on this plane, though stylized, perfectly capture the way that these fish look in motion.
Formline is a style of art historically created by indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest coast of North America. It was a common and versatile visual element, present in everything from painting to carving to weaving. It is defined by its use of continuous, curving lines which may change in angle, width, and direction but do not terminate. Though it was diminished in quantity by suppression of indigenous culture by US and Canadian settlers it never went away, and from the second half of the 20th century onwards it has been surging back as more and more indigenous artists are able to produce and display their work. Worl has worked with formline many times before. She is quoted as saying:
Every time I looked at an Alaska plane, I couldnât help but visualize the salmon being in formline [...] I canât help but look at things and see how to Indigenize them.
And the idea has now come to life in this absolutely unforgettable livery. I wish I was within the range of the 737-800 from Alaska Airlines' hubs so that XĂĄat KwĂĄani could pay a visit to my home airport, because this is among the most beautiful planes in the world right now. And beyond just nice colors and pleasing shapes it represents something important - indigenous artists being given a 40-meter-long flying platform on which to honor fish which have provided countless centuries of life to the people who live beside them.
Worl's work is above and beyond what I would have ever expected for a custom airplane livery. Even the 'Alaska' wordmark is neatly incorporated into the formline, blending into the background to the point it's hard to notice in a good way.
Most liveries are designed by graphic designers and branding firms. Landor Associates design liveries and logo, but they aren't building monuments or putting their work in galleries. I don't mean to diminish their work - obviously I'm passionate about it, I have a blog about it - but it's just fundamentally different from what Worl does. It has different priorities, a different philosophy, and a different level of personal investment.
From my perspective XĂĄat KwĂĄani feels less like branding material and more like a piece of artwork. This isn't something designed to go on letterhead, to be put in a press kit, to be widely reproduced. It's something to be looked at, thought about, and remembered. This is a mural that flies.
I mean...A+, obviously.
There is just about nothing else in the sky which has the same visual power as XĂĄat KwĂĄani. As far as I'm concerned, every gallon of paint was worth it to give us this flying tribute to the people and wildlife of the state Alaska Airlines takes its name from.

Please try to be fairly specific with your request! no need to get too detailed, but enough for me to work with. Please also provide references if you can! If not, moodboards and text description work too.
50% payment upfront (Kofi only, USD only.)
Prices are loose and negotiable!! as i said before, i no longer particularly agree with my pricing, so it won't strictly adhere to my chart. feel free to discuss prices with me!
No full refunds once I've started. If I haven't yet, I will refund the money to you. If you would like to cancel your commission once I've begun on the artwork, I will keep the 50% you paid initially, unless I am already close to finishing. In that case, you will have to pay the other 50% as well.
I will send progress updates, which is when you can request changes. I will only change things regarding that particular stage! For instance, if I'm on the coloring stage, you can ask for changes with color, but nothing before that. I will not make any changes to the lineart. You can ask for more progress updates if you'd like!
The commission will take around a week or so to finish, more if I have other commissions due before yours. I am also a student and have other things I need to do. Please be patient! I will let you know how many people are in line before you.
Please try to pay the other 50% within a week after I finish the artwork. You cannot commission me again if I do not receive full payment!! I will be flexible with when you send me the money, but know that if it takes far too long (more than 2-3 weeks) then you will no longer be able to commission me as well.
The art still belongs to me. Do not claim it as yours. Feel free to post it on your social media, but please still credit me regardless. Non commercial use only. You cannot use my art for any sort of profit. I will provide you with a non watermarked edition, but I will post it with a watermark. I will usually post the commission art I make, but feel free to tell me if you are uncomfortable with me doing so and I won't do it! I will usually also say who commissioned me, especially if it contains their oc's to give credit, but if you prefer to stay anonymous please let me know as well!
