📓 Intermission AU Masterpost 🎲

🙋‍♂️ INTERMISSION is a college AU featuring Mother 3 & EarthBound characters. It's set in a regular college town, in essentially real world Kansas. All supernatural elements are replaced with the mundanity & hilarity of real young adult problems & egregious product placement. The cast is 7 or 8 years older than in canon, putting most of 'em around 21. The whole AU's a labor of love, exploring how these characters from games about growing up would Actually Grow Up, without having to carry the planet Earth on their shoulders. Fantastical events from canon are often re-imagined as ordinary experiences that could've happened to you or someone you care about. Oh yeah - and of course, they play D&D.

I imagine them going to an animal shelter just to look around, and El overhearing an employee saying “nobody will ever adopt this one, these dogs are monsters.” She instantly demands to see the monster dog, and of course it’s not a monster at all, it’s the cutest tiny little pit bull puppy, and El and Gare instantly fall in love with her and name her Bosco since she’s chocolate brown. 😊

Here’s my take what are total drama characters are doing now

Beth💚

Married to Brady couple years during her second year in college and still going on strong

A mother to two kids one girl(6)and one boy(9)

Named the girl Lily(Beth wanted her daughter Lindsay but she knew Lindsay would be confused so she decided to make name her daughter that sounds like Lindsay) and named the boy Brandon

Is a stay at home mother

Originally she wanted to be a relationship counselor (since she felt good helping other people’s relationship problems) but she got pregnant during the last months in college and decided to be a stay at home mom

She still want to be a relationship counselor so once her kids start to become mature and can handle themselves she’ll start looking for a job

People she knew comes to her for relationship advice

She keeps in touch with Lindsay and Tyler(obvi), Harold and Lashawna, Cody, DJ, Chef and Justin( surprisingly), talks to Heather once in a while, same thing goes to Owen

If anyone mention about total drama or Chris she’ll just talks about the good times she had during the show and just ended the talk with ‘that life is in the past now I’m with my loving husband and good kids’

Gwen is the godmother to Harold and Lashawna’s kids, Bridgette and Geoff’s kid, and Zoey and Mike’s kids

Okay this is actually a fic idea i cooked up when i was into kpop but never did anything with! i think about it randomly every month or so and go hmm i should probably get around to writing this eventually huh

Basically the premise is that character A is a private practice art conservator who has a roster of clients that supplies him with his work, but sometimes he takes out of network jobs when they're recommended to him or if he's specifically requested by a prospective client. One day, he gets contacted by one such cold-caller who is weirdly adamant that he perform a restoration job on a portrait in their private collection that's in really rough shape (smoke damage, yellowing varnish, etc.). After some deliberation, A signs onto the project. When the work arrives at his studio, however, he realizes that the client's wildly underplayed the extent of the damage––the combination of the smoke damage and old varnish has darkened the surface to the point that it's near impossible to discern any of the painted elements, and more worryingly, there's a huge gash running across where A can just barely make out the outline of a person's head.

Not to be deterred, A gets to work, slowly but surely undoing the damage done to the portrait. As more time passes and more of the painting becomes clear, he can't shake the feeling that he recognizes the man in the painting, which is absurd, because his client told him that this painting was completed years before A was born.

That's all the exposition I have figured out, but basically the actual story is a reincarnation with magical elements au where the man in the portrait (character B) was the lover of character A a number of life cycles ago, back when A was an artist rather than a conservator (the portrait he is restoring, of course, was painted by none other than A's previous self). The story would oscillate between scenes from the past and the present, such that the reader learns more about A and B's past relationship at the same time that the portrait of B is undergoing its restoration process. There's a bunch more I've thought out regarding where it goes and how it ends, but I won't spoil it in case I actually end up writing it (or unless someone is curious enough to ask, in which case I'll spill every detail I have because I am unfortunately a born yapper)

I have another iteration of this au banging around that's a little more streamlined where a character X is the subject in a painting that lives in the Met (or some other distinguished museum in the city where the fic would take place) and character Y is a museum regular that always lingers in front of X's portrait. (in this au, too, they were lovers many lifetimes ago). The whole thing would be told from the perspective of the character in the painting. I found a passage that I wrote (four years ago, now!!!) for this au that goes into detail about the painted character's anxieties about legacy and memory--in this au, he's a work on paper, which are notorious for being extremely fragile and light sensitive, and as a consequence, the progressive fading of the artwork correlates to the character's progressive loss of memory of his old life, of his identity, of his love, etc. Character Y, somehow, is able to dull the pain of this loss, because something about him reminds X of someone from his past who lies just beyond the boundaries of his memory...

my problem is that i can't think of any hockeys that might fit either of these premises so they remain un-worked-upon for the time being. I am open to any suggestions! Answering this ask has reignited my desire to write these fics!!!
