🤍➡️ @mdp_info 🔜 🤍➡️ https://linktr.ee/MDP_info ⬅️ We’re pleased to offer our next online workshop to support artists & creatives who are planning an application to Round 17 of Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) programme. Taking place on Wednesday 29 March (10-11:30am) and led by Mark Devereux, this workshop will address the core questions helping you create a strong application. 💷 As one of the core funders for individual artists, Arts Council England grants can unlock and create important developmental opportunities to help you take your practice and ideas to the next level. The online workshop (via Zoom) will take an in-depth look at the application process for the DYCP programme – dissecting the questions, what they mean and the detail the assessors are looking for. ⭐️ This workshop is independent from Arts Council England, sharing the knowledge and experience Mark has built from previous successful grant applications. 👀 Find out more and book your place via our website (link in bio) 📷 Marfa Abstraction XVIII, Gareth Kemp (@garethkemp), 2020 (made as part of DYCP funded project, supported by Mark Devereux Projects) . . . #MarkDevereuxProjects #MDP #ArtsCouncil #ArtsCouncilEngland #ArtsCouncilFunding #ArtsCouncilEnglandFunding #ACE #ACEFunding #DevelopingYourCreativePractice #DYCP #DevelopingYourCreativePracticeFunding #DYCPFunding #DYCPFundingWorkshop #DYCPWorkshop #FundingWorkshop #ArtsFunding #ArtsFundingWorkshop #Artist #Artists #Artwork #ArtistDevelopment #ArtistMentor #ArtistMentoring #SupportingArtists #GetFunding #GetArtsFunding #Funding💸 #FundingSpecialist #ArtsFundraising #GarethKemp (at Mark Devereux Projects) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqIUYRfIL3s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

1st research week at the British Library for SHELTER (part of my @aceagrams funding) & feeling very lucky. Having access to such a wealth of books, articles and audio & visual references is a genuine gift. It’s also free to be a @britishlibrary reader. As are the snazzy lockers. I highly recommend joining. Especially if you’re researching a story. Not to mention the surprise of an early printing press next to the loos for good measure. Today’s reference: Womens Lib 1970, Westway Travellers, Celtic Folk Magic & Witch’s familiars Monday’s was the Newsroom (not pictured) reading microfilm of newspapers from 1970. I can confirm The Sun was as vacuous as ever. Very intrigued by some Evening News stories so more to delve into. #britishlibrary #britishlibrarylondon #research #comiccreator #acegrams #artscouncilengland #acefunded #dycpgrant #shelter #shelterthecomic #shelterearlydoors https://www.instagram.com/p/CnUzQ9bso3q/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Introducing The tale of ‘The Four Friends’ Or ‘The Chapter of the Ringdove’ from Kalila wa dimna.
‘Kalila and Dimna: Ancient Fables for Troubled Times’ focuses on one specific fable from the book: the ‘Tale of the Four Friends’ or ‘The Chapter of the Ringdove’ باب الحمامة المطوقة in Arabic. Like all the chapters of the book it begins with a brief dialogue between the king and his counsellor. The king wishes to hear a fable about true friendship; the tale his counsellor recounts is the story of the crow, mouse, tortoise, and deer – characters who appear, on the surface at least, too different to get along. In the chapter, the four animals overcome difficulties, represented in the story by a hunter, by working together, exemplifying the moral of the fable that true friendships are strengthened by adversity. Despite their apparent differences, they recognise the good in each other and find common ground and companionship.
Their encounters take place in a landscape of persecution and fear, in which the animals move from place to place to find safety. Meetings with others are, at first at least, frequently the cause of anxiety and mistrust, and often invoke a desire to flee – emotions which are overcome through exchange of words. Storytelling lies at the heart of the animals’ ability to see beyond their differences. As they recount their own personal histories and the journeys that have brought them together, they create a sense of community; a ‘home’ in which they finally find peace.
The journeys undertaken by the friends are not only physical, i.e., from one place to another, but symbolic: from pessimism to acceptance of help; from ignorance to wisdom; from exile to companionship; and from fear and persecution to safety and tranquillity.
The ‘Tale of the Four Friends’ is a story about looking beyond perceived differences, working together to overcome adversity, and finding peace in community, it also provides the perfect vehicle to explore issues of identity, community, migration, and intercultural relations – themes that are highly relevant in contemporary UK society and above all to a multicultural/lingual city like London. Dr. Rachel Scott.

I painted this mural in Great Yarmouth at the end of last year with @reprezentproject It’s on the front of the former pub Quayside Tavern, and later Quay Pride. The pattern is a recurring image through a lot of my work, especially my murals. I think that it’s about enjoying repetition, and ideas around obsessive compulsive traits, but I also think it relates to skateboarding, in that the original version looked like brickwork floors or even a map of a city. When I make murals I don’t necessarily like to make political statements, more just colourful work people can enjoy and read into further if they wish, and this pattern repeats across a few murals with that function. I always try to find ways to adapt the pattern and how it flows across surfaces. For this wall I was asked to think about the history of the site and of Yarmouth. As this was a pub, and still has the Lacons Brewery logo built into it, I made the pattern spill out of two pint glasses at the top of the wall and splash off the ground. If you want to see the mural for yourself it’s on South Quay along the river in Great Yarmouth, and there’s a load of other murals in the area you can find through @reprezentproject (and if you’re in the area it’s only an 8 minute walk from one of them new Banksy’s)!!! #art #artistsoninstagram #artist #artistsofinstagram #mural #graffiti #streetart #paint #spraypaint #spraypaintart #colour #greatyarmouth #yarmouth #ace #artscouncilengland #regeneration #muralproject #reprezent #banksy (at Great Yarmouth) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUNLNU4DuD9/?utm_medium=tumblr

NORTHERN ART CARBOOTY 2018 PERFORMER: Gemma Parker
PERFORMING: The Tattooed Lady
Tattoo designs to celebrate the 100 years since women got the vote in the UK and Manchester’s place as the birth of Suffrage!
Funded by Arts Council England the tattoos will be available from Gemma Parker’s 1900′s style temporary tattoo dispenser as part of Northern Art Carbooty on August 26th.
More about this project:
Originally commissioned for HOME's opening exhibition, The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, The Tattooed Lady is inspired by tattooed performers of the 1900's. This work takes on the form of an end of the pier penny arcade machine from the same era. An interactive art work with flashing bulbs and a friendly 'ding!' that offers audiences the chance to take a piece of art home with them, either as a keepsake for posterity or as some temporary 'ink' to wear proudly on their skin.
