Future Goals Day 27, Future Goals: I was going to try and be in a couple of my first art fairs this year, but we will see how things are in the world before I commit to an event like that. My current goal is to have prints and originals online and ready to be purchased in April. My future projects will be developing landscapes and flower paintings, and making large abstract paintings. I would love to make a landscape series of trees. I also would love to make a series of flowers. With my abstract work, I would love to create large abstract paintings, both in watercolor and in oils. I hope to be in a gallery and have my artwork on a collectors wall someday. Day Two of Lolla was dope! I got to see two artists I’ve been wanting to see for so long! @dontoliver along with @tinashenow! Don Toliver did a mashup of his song “No Idea” & Aaliyah’s “One in a Million” and it was sending me!!!! Tinashe is so talented & she sounds amazing all while dancing her ass off! Got to see @cordae & @coileray too! I just got into them not too long ago so it was awesome seeing them perform! Saw @dualipa again! She sounded and looked amazing! Her whole crew was so awesome! She performed on the biggest stage which is every artist’s dream! We saw her at Lolla back in 2018 and what’s crazy is she performed at the small stage opposite from the biggest stage (T-Mobile). They’re in the same big field so she could see it while standing on the biggest stage! Hearing her say it was such a dream come true performing on the biggest stage and reflecting on her past performance at Lolla brought me to tears! I can’t wait for the day I can say that in front of a huge Lolla crowd too! Wednesday wisdom💘James Baldwin once said, “Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go.” As an adoptee, I have always wondered where I get my artistic gene. My awesome adoptive Grandma Phelps always fostered & helped harness my artistic inclinations through painting & sewing, but an early childhood assessment test picked up on my ability to draw straight lines at a very young age. I’ve always wondered if my artistic ability was rooted in some genetic predisposition towards art. Fast forward to present day and I found my genetic art link via my biological family’s ancestry page. At 19 years of age in 1905, my biological Great Grandmother moved to Chicago to attend the Chicago Art Institute & the Chicago College of Music!! So progressive!!! Love to Make! #marchmeetthemaker2020 Day 8, Love to Make: If I didn’t love what I do, I wouldn’t wake up at 4:30 a.m. in the morning and want to paint! I want to make art all the time. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with my ideas! I’ll have projects and ideas half finished, waiting to be worked on. When I worked as an art instructor for young kids, and when my kids were much younger, I would think of all sorts of creative projects to work on. Now that I’m working on my own art, all my creative juices are going into my projects and commissions. When I was starting to make art again, for me back in 2017, I challenged myself to make art everyday for a year. That practice is what really disciplined me to make art everyday now and to be a professional artist. It was that challenge, and my motivation to want to be an artist, that made me see that even on the hard days when you don’t feel like making art, to get up and make. B L U E Last night I was able to see my art work on the big screen in Oxford Street as part of the campaign #makeitblue #lightitblue which encourages people everywhere to share their own messages of gratitude and solidarity to the NHS. It is such a proud moment and super exciting to be part of it! Thank you to @w1curates for choosing my art to be displayed. If you have been following my posts from a few weeks back I posted about ‘dreaming big’. My dream was that one day I’d have my work exhibited on a huge scale that can be seen by millions….well I think this dream has sort of come true here! Seeing my painting on such a huge scale on one of the busiest high streets in London (all be it during lockdown) is so thrilling!
