#repost @shn_rublob (Mexico City). I am a fan of the feline representation in this artist's work, which here includes a pet portrait and a street mural.

Mexican Feminist Art groups everyone should know about…
Tlacuilas y Retarteras, Bio-Arte and Polvos de Gallina Negra.
These groups were the predecessors for the feminist art movement in Mexico. They were founded around the 1980s, a time were women were standing up against inequality and making their voices heard, just like we do now.
These political and social groups reflected on the gender wage gap in the art world, the sexualization of women portrayed in art, sexism in general, and the worth of female artists.
Some of their works included extensive investigation of the role of women in art, expositions, classes imparted by female artists, performance art and involvement in feminist marches around the republic. The most well known works were the exposition: “Las mujeres artistas o se solicita esposa”, and the performance art/reflective conceptualization of mexican traditions: “La Fiesta de XV Años”
