Next Time We’re Driving…
Pairing: Arizona robbins x reader
Summary: Arizona and her wife are world class surgeons, recently they decided to take a vacation but in the process of their flight things take a turn for the worst. Can Arizona overcome her fear and PTSD from the crash? Can they save lives while 30,000 feet in the air?
********************************************************
You looked up from your phone watching as the flight attendants scurried to make sure everyone was on and closed the doors, you heard one of them start to make the announcement welcoming you all to the flight and explaining emergency plans. You could feel the plane start to move down the runway preparing for take-off, you felt a hand grip your thigh and looked over at your wife.
"Arizona, are you sure you're going to be okay?" you said taking her hand in yours, she squeezed you back, but couldn't take her eyes off the window she was currently staring out.
"I think so just need to get in the air, I need this to be a smooth flight."
"Arizona, look at me..." she ripped her eyes off the window and turned to you, "It'll be okay, I promise, i know it's hard but just take a deep breath." she slowly nodded at you then leaned her head on your shoulder wrapping her other arm around yours, you leaned your head down on hers letting her know you weren't going anywhere. a few moments later the plane started to lift off which can always be a little rocky and you felt she gripped your hand tighter leaning into you, you bent placing a kiss on her forehead realizing that her eyes were squeezed shut. "Breathe baby just breathe."
About an hour later and everything was going smoothly, Arizona had settled back in her seat and after nightmares the night prior she even started to get some sleep, though she still tightly held onto your hand. Perks of flying first class was that she could sleep uninterrupted and she had a little more room, though all hopes were quickly squashed when a flight attendant came up to you.
"Ma'am... I, uh... I saw your shirt." she said motioning to the 1/4 zip that you had on, you had left so early that you just threw on whatever was comfortable, not realizing that it read "Angels Memorial Hospital Trauma dept."
"Yea?"
"Are you a doctor?"
"I'm a trauma surgeon, is everything okay?"
"Can I just have you follow me?"
"Um sure," Arizona shifted when she felt the loss of your hand, you leaned down to whisper that you'd be right back. Before turning to follow the flight attendant.
"It's normal for people to be scared of flying."
"Yea well unfortunately my wife hasn't had the best luck with planes before.
"Oh?"
"She was involved in a crash a few years back, this is her first time back on a flight."
"That's understandable then," she said pushing the dividing curtains aside, guiding you through sections of people, a lot of them watching movies or sleeping, slowly the sections held less passengers, everything seemed pretty still until you stepped into one section at the back of the plane.
Suddenly you understood why she needed you, before you was a young mom, face contorted in pain a flight attendant was squatted down next to her, trying to talk to her while looking extremely worried.
"So this is why we need a doctor..."
"Okay, that's okay," you said nodding to her but quickly you made you way over and squatted down in front of the mom, "Hey mama how're we feeling?"
"I'm not sure, not good."
“That’s okay, sweetheart what’s your name?”
“Ava.”
"Okay Ava, I'm Dr. Y/N Sinclair, just call me Y/N... can you tell me what exactly you're feeling?"
"I um... I started to feel some cramping, thought it was a false alarm but it's been getting worse, and my water broke."
"How long ago did your water break?"
"an hour ago..." spoke the second flight attendant.
“Why didn’t you come get me sooner?”
“We thought we had this handled… we’ve all watched the training video.”
“A training video?” They both nodded. “Okay yea no.”
“But…”
“Look right now I need you to go back to my seat and get my wife, calmly bring her back here and tell her I have it handled.”
“okay.” Said the first attendant before scurrying off, “okay Ava what I’m going to need from you is to try and relax your muscles, I’m gonna need to get your pants off so I can examine you.
“okay.” She said softly, fear plaguing her features.
it wasn’t long after that you had examined her and found that she was extremely close to having her baby and no sooner Arizona came bursting through into the small room.
“Hey what do we have?” She said placing a steady hand on your back, and kneeling down next to you.
“Um can I talk to you?” You said to her motioning your head back through the curtain, she slowly nodded reading your eyes and guided you back the flight attendants rushing to the young girls side.
once you were in the next rows and out of earshot, Arizona spoke up, “so preterm labor?”
“yea and by the looks of it 8-10 weeks early.” You said concerned.
“Is that confirmed?”
“not yet as soon as I saw her I sent for you, Arizona she’s young but you know how labor is and bleeding I’m concerned for that… you know what a nose bleed is like let alone having a baby.”
“True, though even in the best case this could strain the baby with the pressurized cabin.”
“So what’re we thinking we can try to put it off as long as possible but with her water having already broken our hands are tied.”
“Yea, okay so let’s try to prevent it with emergency landing, if worst comes then I’ll walk you through delivery and when baby is born you get mom and I’ll take care of baby.” She said trying to put you at ease, you’d seen to many trauma cases and knew to always fear the worst which you dealt with but usually you were in a state of the art hospital with any supplies you’d need, not 30,000 feet in the air in a flying pressurized death trap.
“okay and if i need more hands, we’ll see if there are any other nurses or doctors on board.” You said nodding to her.
“that’s the plan… we got this, I love you Y/N, it’ll be okay.” She said kissing you before she could say anything else you heard Ava calling your name. you looked at Arizona before turning and running back intothe room.
"Y/N!... Dr. Sinclair!"
"Ava, I'm here what's wrong?"
"It's-It's the baby."
"okay...okay."
"I-I feel like I need to push... Oh god, I feel like I need to push." you looked up at Arizona who was standing over your shoulder, and she nodded down to you.
"Okay Ava, I need you to listen to me... this is my wife Dr. Arizona Robbins she's going to help me, we're going to deliver your baby and then she's going to take care of your baby while I take care of you." she nodded at you, sweat dripping down her features as she strained through another contraction, arizona got behind her coaching her through as you helped her get into postion, pulling on gloves that you had found and pulling some other supplies close.
---time jump---
"Okay Ava one last push... one more and you meet your baby." she grunted one last time letting out a scream, you held her baby in your arms, quickly handing him to Arizona and then focusing back on the young mother in front of you.
2 hours later and you had landed and Mom and baby were en route to the closest hospital.
"Next time we're definitely driving."
"and yet I still feel like chaos tends to find us." you both laughed.

It’s funny how since I started watching Grey’s, I have been completely wrong in all of my inital opinions. For example:
I thought I wouldn’t care that George was going to die. I knew it was going to happen from the very first episode because of a tiktok but I thought I wouldn’t get very attached to him because he was kind of… useless. I was wrong. I cried when he died.
I told myself I wouldn’t get attached to Denny because he was played by JDM and I would just keep making jokes about John Winchester. I was wrong. I got very attached, very quickly, call me Izzie Stevens because I was tearing up at his death.
I was SO SURE that I wouldn’t care about Mark or Lexie dying because Mark was an ass and Lexie was just the “other sister.” I am on season 8 and I love them both individually and together and I know I am going to be sobbing when they die.
So, what I’ve learned is never to trust my inital judgment on a character in Grey’s because it is going to be changed within a season and I WILL become attached.
#grey’s anatomy#grey’s#george o’malley#denny duquette#mark sloan#lexie grey#ignore me while i ramble#I fully can’t cope knowing the plane crash is coming up#I can’t do it man I’m gonna have a breakdown this time I just know it#george was bad enough HELL DENNY was bad enough!!#I’m not ready to lose mark and lexie#I still don’t know who else goes out in the crash because my sister won’t let me read any spoilers#she’s sure arizona is going to be on the plane though so uhhh I’m worried about her too

had a few tags for things from some lovely people 😘 and I now have 12K+ and counting of a sequel to snickerdoodles... so have some of Eddie arriving in Texas @tizniz @hippolotamus @eddiebabygirldiaz @daffi-990 @exhuastedpigeon @spaceprincessem @spotsandsocks @kejfeblintz @smilingbuckley @sofa-king-lame @chaosandwolves @smilingbuckley @kitty-covey @bekkachaos @blutterlie @sazanahashi @livinginsunnyhell @epicbuddieficrecs @sparklespiff @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove @dangerpronebuddie 💕
He walks to the house, up the porch steps, and knocks on the door. After a good two minutes with no answer, he rings the bell. It’s another minute or so before the door opens to his mother in her gray apron.
“Oh. Eddie. You made it,” she says flatly and he can’t tell if she’s annoyed at the interruption or just displeased to see him. Or if she was hoping to hear about a plane crash somewhere over Arizona with no survivors. “I thought you were coming next week.”
“I—” No. He texted her. He called and talked to her. Briefly, but he wasn’t the one who hung up and rushed off to do something. He’s pretty sure he did. He did. He knows he did. His brain isn’t that much of a sieve. “No, today. It was always today.” He opens his arms but doesn’t step forward. Just in case she doesn’t want to hug him. “It’s good to see you?” It sounds like a question but he really can’t help that.
She hums dismissively, looks at his offer, but doesn’t accept. Which doesn’t mean anything. His mother was never all that affectionate. But some people aren’t. Some people don’t care for it. Doesn’t mean anything. “Yes,” she says in a way that sounds like anything but. “This isn’t a good time.”
Eddie drops his arms. What the hell does that mean?
“I’m in the middle of making dinner. And Christopher is doing his homework.”
“Okay?” Eddie doesn’t know how that means it isn’t a good time. Not a good time for what? Him being here? He’s not company. He grew up here. He’s tidied and cleaned everything in the house at least ten thousand times. She doesn’t have to make small talk and host him. “I can help. Whatever you’re doing.”
She waves that off and smiles like it’s funny. “That’s all right. It’ll be faster if I do it myself and the kitchen is no place for you.”
Because it’s her kitchen? Or because she thinks he can’t cook? Or because she looks at him like he’s still a child? Or he's a man who shouldn’t be doing ~women’s~ chores? It could be any one of those. Or every one of them. “Can I just see Chris then? I won’t be in the way. You don’t have to do anything for me.”
“Eddie,” she says and her voice gets sterner. Colder. “It’s not a good time right now. Why don’t you come back— hmm, we have activities tomorrow and your father is taking him out after school. How about on Wednesday? Or Friday? That would be better. You could come over then.”
He could— come over then? Then? He could wait days and then see Chris? They’re busy today and tomorrow and he’s supposed to wait around and do nothing? “You don’t have to feed me or host me. I just want to see my son.”
“Christopher is doing his homework right now. You’ll only distract him.”
Distract him? Eddie, Chris’ father, is a distraction? “I can help him with his homework.”
That earns him a disapproving scowl. “It won’t help him learn if you are doing the work for him.”
“I know that,” he almost snaps. It’s far too close to it. Which will not help. She’ll scold him if he’s angry. He would’ve been sent to his room and ignored, and it was awful when she wouldn’t talk to him and was disappointed in him. He tries to take a breath. Shove it down. Put it away. “You think I don’t know that he needs to learn for himself? Mom, I’m not—”
She puts her hands up but doesn’t touch him. She wants to quiet him. Because he’s the one who is overemotional and unreasonable. “It’s best if you don’t distract him while he’s working. You’ll only upset him if he sees you now. Now is not the time. He needs to finish his school work first.”
Okay. Sure. Maybe.
Would Chris really be upset to see him? No, they haven’t exactly worked through or resolved anything. They need to. Obviously. Hence Eddie in the middle of this whole situation. But they’ve had conversations. Would Eddie really be detrimental to Chris functioning?
Why wouldn’t he be. Hasn’t he always been that to everyone?
“I— I flew all the way here,” he says. It’s quiet, tempered, but desperation and anguish are difficult monsters to conceal. “I’m moving here.”
“Then you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see him when it’s a better time.”
A better time? “What do you mean a better time? I won’t bother you. I’m not going to distract him. I can’t have two minutes with him?” It’s angry. It sounds too angry. Too cracked. Unstable.
She steps forward onto the porch and closes the door behind her, clearly blocking him from the house and anything inside. “Is that what’s best for your son? Or what’s best for you? Are you thinking about his needs at all or only what you want?”
There’s no air in Eddie’s lungs. There might not be blood in his body for all he knows. He swallows hard and it’s rocks and dryness and everything hurts. He won’t see Chris. He can’t see Chris. She’s not going to let him. What can he do? Is there anything he can do? Besides make it worse?
“Okay,” he says quietly and feels like he’s maybe ten years old and two feet tall. “I’ll come back on Wednesday.”
“Good. Thank you for finally choosing Christopher instead of yourself.” She turns and shuts the front door behind her, and leaves Eddie on the porch all alone without another word.
No invite for a visit. No invite to dinner. No “good to see you, how are you.” He can’t help, he’s not allowed.
No Chris.

just visiting
♡ pairing: alex karev x female! reader
♡ genre: angst to fluff
♡ warnings: small season 9 spoilers (plane crash) & family issues
♡ part two, part three, part four, special scenes
♡ check out my grey's anatomy masterlist here
going back to seattle will never be one of your plans. but, your mother had to pick seattle as one of the destinations for your so called family road trip.
to add more, you had to stay in town for a few days. it's not like you hate the city.
it's where you've met your soulmate. your person, alex.
but when you were on your last year residency, you had to leave. not only because of all the crisis that hit seattle grave mercy west that time, you were also offered a job at hopkins, your dream hospital. to start your fellowship.
fortunately, alex was also offered to start a fellowship there.
but, the plane crash happened.
he couldn't just leave the hospital. especially with what happened to arizona.
"you can't be for real y/n." he said following you onto your shared bedroom.
he proposed that morning and now, you're packing your stuff up.
"we said we'd stay!"
but, now you can't.
"is this about your family y/n? is that why you can't answer me? i swear if they're talking crap about me again i'll–"
"you want to know how they're treating me because of us?" stopping at by the doors.
"you know about this. alex i–"
"and yet you listen to them huh." scoffing at what you said.
"if you walk out of that door, we're done y/n."
after five years, you were back. you convinced yourself you were just visiting and checking the sights you never seen or had the chance to see when you were still living in the city.
you were on your hotel room when your four year old boy, lucas, who just came back from a walk with your parents suddenly threw up on the carpet.
"i don't feel good mama."
you called for an ambulance and of course it brought you to where you started your career as a doctor.
as your son was brought in the emergency room. one of your former colleague and a very close friend noticed you.
"y/n?"
"meredith!"
she walked towards you. "how are you? and you've got a kid!" she said hugging you.
"i'm fine, mer." you replied, hugging her back.
"are you staying long?"
"does alex—" she was interrupted when your son started to cry and vomit again.
you came back to his side and started to rub his back for comfort.
"no. he doesn't know i'm here." you replied shortly.
"just so you know he's the one on-call on peds today."
"and let's catch up after work." with that she hugged you again before going back to her patient.
while waiting for the doctor on-call to come down. you made the time to pray that it's arizona or another doctor will come down.
"where's the–" he stopped in the middle of the emergency room.
he certainly did not expect you to be somewhat in seattle. and of course, he did not expect for you to have a kid.
he saw the way you were talking to the child. promising something which made the kid smile. but shortly after, the kid reached for the basin and vomited again.
from that, he got out of his daze and walked towards the two of you.
"how are you feeling little champ?" he said standing on the bedside.
"i don't like it." he said turning himself towards you.
alex looked at you and asked you what happened. "he was fine before he went out with my parents. he said he ate something from the sea."
"from the sea huh." alex said examining your kid.
"i tried to ask which is it but he's really not in the mood to be specific." you said brushing his hair out of his face.
after alex looked at him more "he's already getting fluids and i already ordered some meds but i'd like to keep him overnight for observation."
you agreed. "y/n i–" he was interrupted when lucas started to call for you.
"i'll check up on him again later." he said before letting himself out of the emergency room.
after settling in and calling your parents. you had the chance to take a breather. walking in the halls with some of the staff recognizing you. you finally reached the cafeteria.
"can we talk?" alex's voice came from behind. you motioned for him to take the vacant seat in front of you.
"so...you've got a kid huh." he said starting the conversation.
"yeah. he's smart and funny..."
"i met him three years ago from a program we did back at boston. and instantly fell in love with him. can't believe that i'd be falling in love an infant though." both of you letting out a laugh.
"you know, i waited for you text or something." he spoke again.
"i waited over there too." you said smiling sadly at him.
"so you're the chief of peds surgery now huh." you said pointing at his coat. "yeah. robbins gave me the job, so she can do neonatal."
"are you staying?"
you stood up from the table before answering. "we're just visiting."
after that talk with alex, you went back to lucas' room. he's finally asleep after vomiting all afternoon.
"you can go back to the hotel and rest up." sitting at the end of the bed. "lucas' doctor, karev. isn't he that ex-boyfriend of yours?" your father asked as they were gathering their things.
"it's a good thing you listened to us cause you're doing way better than him, i mean have you seen him? hopkins is way better than this–"
"can we drop this conversation dad?" you said sighing as took as seat beside your child's bed.
"i'm just saying that you're doing way better than–" with your father not dropping the subject, it made you mad. all those years of torment of them hearing how great you are now just because you listened to them and left seattle.
"do you think i was fine after i left this hospital? i listened to everything the both of you said because i can't bear how you were treating me."
"the only good thing that happened to me over there is lucas! and don't think i didn't know what you said about me adopting him cause i–" you received a slap from your mother.
"how dare you speak to your father like that? we were only looking out for you and you adopting a kid you just saw at a program was–"
"out. i've heard enough." your mother protesting woke up lucas. "mama... where's grandma and grandpa going?"
"the-they're going home sweetie. we'll just visit them after we go home tomorrow okay?" rushing to his side so you could help him go back to sleep.
after your parents left, meredith was standing by the door. "are you okay? cause this is just my cup of tea y/n, i mean, mommy and daddy issues?"
laughing from what she said, you let her take a seat on the chair by bedside. "so you heard the whole thing."
"pretty much."
"well, hopkins was great. but you know, this place was my home, mer." sighing, and thinking that all of the things that happened today made you tired enough for days.
"i could hire you." she said nonchalantly. "are you serious?" you said in disbelief.
"you don't think i'm serious? i kinda own this place now."
"we could head down and sign the contract." looking at her, checking to see if she's really saying the truth.
"no. i–i can't." standing up and hushing your child as he started to turn again. "why? is it alex?"
"it's kinda stupid but yeah."
"what's stupid is the both of you are still in love with each other and you're not together."
"pretty sure he moved on mer. the minute i walked out on him. we were done." you said getting a cup of water and some apple slices which you presume was for your child.
"no. he still loves you."
"i left him after he proposed mer."
meredith stopped at what she was about, shocked at what she's hearing. "he proposed?"
"then i left him." you sternly added. "so that's why he always have this small box on his coat or pocket."
"what?"
"i think you weren't supposed to know that." she suddenly changed the topic about you and your program at hopkins and it turned to how you met your kid and how she loves her kids. just the both of you catching up.
the next day, meredith came back to check on the both of you for the third time. "are you sure you don't want to work back here, cause i told bailey and she's more than glad to have you back."
"mer–"
"we're moving here mama?" your kid said looking up from where he was playing with his toys.
"do you want to live here, sweetheart?" meredith asked him as she sat beside him.
"can we live near auntie mer?" lucas asked too excited. meredith looked at you with a smug grin on her face.
"bailey has an offer that tops hopkins." she said as she started to play with your kid again.
"fine. i'll talk to bailey, but i don't promise anything."
"i'll take it."
you didn't know how she convinced you to talk to bailey about your job here. but boy, meredith and bailey pulled out the big guns.
"look, i love the offer dr. bailey, but i just got here yesterday and–"
"we'll keep the position open for you dr. y/l/n, it would be really great to have you back with us." with that, you left the office wondering how you and lucas would be happier here.
to your surprise, alex was the one playing with your child.
"hey, where's aunt mer?" asking as you walked in. "she has a person to cure, mama." your kid said not looking up.
"your mama's back now, champ. i'm going now." alex said as he ruffled lucas' hair. "don't go! i love playing with you!"
"baby i'm sure dr. alex has some patients to cure too." your kid started to have tears forming on his eyes, but he tried his best not to let one tear out.
"how about we, uhh--" you can't find a pretty good excuse for lucas to feel better.
"hey how about this. you and you're mom are going home in a few hours, right?" alex asked and he nodded. "you play with your mama first, and i'll come back after curing my patients?" lucas looked at you for a signal and you smiled at him which he took and nodded at alex. "you promise uncle alex?"
alex was quite taken aback by the way he called him. the whole time the both of you were around, he always called him by 'dr. alex'
"yeah. i'll be quick."
you mouthed thank you at alex and went to your kid's side, starting to play with him.
"ma?"
"yes?" the both of you are now eating your lunch, well you're doing most of the eating.
"auntie mer said uncle alex is special to you." almost choking at what he said, you tried to hide the coughing. "she told you that?"
sipping water trying to compose yourself. "h-he is, sweetheart."
