Мнемиопсис - древнейший, люминесцентный организм.
Mnemiopsis is an ancient, luminescent organism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ctenophores are not jellyfish, and they are not even related to them, although it is impossible to call them anything else. Externally, Mnemiopsis are light, transparent, with blade-like skirts and paddle plates. They do not have a brain, heart, or skeleton, but they do have a nervous system, an organ of balance, and the ability to luminesce. Mnemiopsis is a predator, a carnivore that feeds on zooplankton, eggs, and larvae of fish and mollusks. In the light it shimmers with bright colors, at night it gives the sea waves a yellowish luminescent glow.
According to the latest data from scientists, the ctenophore is one of the first living creatures on planet Earth. Previously it was believed that this title belongs to sea sponges - much more primitive creatures. More recently, the Ctenophore Mnemiopsis (Mnemiopsis leidyi) lived only on the other side of the ocean: along the eastern coast of North and South America, from Canada to Argentina. But, thanks to intensive shipping, it moved to Europe along with ballast waters. As it turns out, the ctenophore can adapt to a wide range of salinity. Now its habitat includes the Black Sea, the Azov, Aegean and Marmara Seas, the western coast of Sweden, even the almost fresh Baltic Sea.

Semifinals
Out of the 32 original teams, only four teams are left, split into two semifinals: Spain v. Sweden, and Australia v. England. This is the culmination of three weeks of joy, passion, and heartbreak…and some really good soccer. These teams have all found their grooves, their momentum, and there is so much on the line now that everyone will be giving it their all. At this point, I don’t know what else I can say about these teams, but I went back through each team’s journey so far to look at the results so far in the tournament.
Spain, FIFA ranked 7
Won 3-0 over Costa Rica
Won 5-0 over Zambia
Lost 4-0 to Japan
Won 5-1 over Switzerland
Won 2-1 over Netherlands
Sweden, FIFA ranked 3
Won 2-1 over South Africa
Won 5-0 over Italy
Won 2-0 over Argentina
Won in penalties over USA
Won 2-1 over Japan
Australia, FIFA ranked 10
Won 1-0 over Republic of Ireland
Lost 3-2 to Nigeria
Won 4-0 over Australia
Won 2-0 over Denmark
Won in penalties over France
England, FIFA ranked 4
Won 1-0 over Haiti
Won 1-0 over Denmark
Won 6-1 over China
Won in penalties over Nigeria
Won 2-1 over Colombia
I think that both games could go either way, and it would be arrogant and stupid on my part to try and predict anything from here on out. It is a guarantee that we will have a brand-new champion; none of these teams have won a world cup before. England and Sweden have gotten to the semifinals and won medals before, but Spain and Australia are at this point for the first time in program history.
One thing that most people won’t know is that the players on these teams have all played together on club teams, becoming friends, and even dating. England’s Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh play in Barcelona with nine of Spain’s players, and Sweden’s Fridolina Rolfo. Australia’s Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord play for Arsenal with England’s Lotte Wubben-Moy, while Australia’s Sam Kerr plays for Chelsea with four players from England, and three players from Sweden. No matter which teams go through, players will witness their friends and colleagues triumphs and losses–a bittersweet end to a world cup that has been full of rich, new, powerful experiences.

Still thinking about my National Animals AU:
Micronations would not have animal forms. It’s one of the things that marks them out as not being real nations. If a micronation ever achieved their dream of being recognised, they’d gain a beast form then. If you’re curious about Sealand in this scenario: Peter would want to be a lion like Arthur…but instead he’d end up as a seagull. D’oh! 😂
Overseas territories and small, separate parts of countries (the ones like Hong Kong and Macau that have their own nation-people) would have animal forms. Which beasts they have would depend on their circumstances, but a general rule of thumb would be they’d be the same as the nation in charge of them. Not always, but usually. If the ownership changed then their form might change with it. They have the least amount of control over what they’d become as something that’s not quite a colony but not quite part of the “main” nation either.
Now a few more beast form headcanons from around the world:
Australia: lion → red kangaroo
Pretty easy to come up with these. Just like his big bros over in NA, little Aussie was a lion cub in his early days as a British colony. The adult lion he grew into would resemble the kind in Africa that live in scrubland because I think that would be better for roaming around the outback. So he might not have had a mane? Anyway, unlike biggest bro Alfred, Australia’s break with Arthur wasn’t violent enough for a skin ripping. Australia went the Matthew route instead and changed gradually. Until one day he assumed his beast form and found himself standing on two legs as a big ol’ roo.
New Zealand: lion → ram
The lion route strikes again! Calm down Arthur, lol. Another colony cub who grew into an adult lion and then settled on a different form after gradual independence. That form has to be a sheep. I mean, just look at NZ’s canon design. Making him anything else would be weird.
Sweden: ??? → lion → Eurasian elk
Sweden was once known as “the lion of the North” with a fearsome reputation to match. They still keep the lion on their coat of arms, but I think Berwald has moved on from that stage of his life. Sweden is pretty peaceful these days. Berwald would have spent his conqueror years as an Arctic lion with a pale mane. Then at some point he would have changed into an elk, which is Sweden’s national animal. Not a hunter any more but still not to be messed with either. You don’t want to be on the wrong end of those antlers. Yeah, an elk works. Not sure what he would have started as way back in his viking days.
Finland: reindeer
He’s lapland, bro! Father Christmas lives in his house. What else is he going to be? Berwald would be happy too after his final form change. Now his elk self matches his wife Tino’s deer. Nordic ungulate solidarity. 👍
Seychelles: dolphin
I think only small, isolated island nations would get forms that were completely sea based. Otherwise not being able to come up on land would be too much of a pain. Nation-people like Seychelles would have more space to roam in the ocean than her dry land. So her place to unwind would be beneath the waves. Also fits the big fishing culture there.
Argentina: black bull → silver bull
Antonio’s son: the little black calf who eventually grew up to lock horns with his dad over independence. If Arthur and Alfred had a badass lion duel in the North, then Argentina and Antonio would have had a sick bull fight that shook the plata in the South. Argentina didn’t tear off his skin like Alfred did after he won, but his beast form did change its appearance in a more subtle way. His black hide and horns turned silver because how could the Argent-ine be anything else? If Hima ever gives us a canon Argentina, I really hope he’s a guy to go with this headcanon. I just want this epic bull v. bull clash so badly. 😆
Brazil: ??? → jaguar
I haven’t decided what Portugal would be in this AU yet but, whatever it is, Brazil started as a baby form of that. Then changed into a jaguar after independence. I have no deeper reasoning other than jaguars are awesome.

New USAF Operations and Mission Planning Center in Darwin, Australia
Diego Alves By Diego Alves 08/04/2023 - 15:01 in Military
Recently, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) made a significant discovery about the strategic plans of the United States Air Force in the Northern Australian Territory. According to budget records and acquisition documents discovered by ABC, the U.S. is expected to invest approximately $630 million in northern Australia in the next two to three years.
The most notable aspect of this investment is the construction of a state-of-the-art mission operations and planning center in Darwin. This development sheds light on the growing importance of the region for the U.S. military and its implications for the U.S.-Australia defense partnership.
The revelation of a new "mission planning" and operations center of the U.S. Air Force marks an important milestone in the continuous strengthening of military ties between the U.S. and Australia. The center, which will be located in Darwin, is budgeted at about US$ 40 million. It will serve as a crucial center for various vital activities, including mission planning, intelligence operations and crew briefings. This facility will undoubtedly increase the coordination and operational capabilities of the U.S. Air Force in the region.
Tumblr media

The substantial investment of the United States in northern Australia means the growing importance of the region as a strategic location for the United States armed forces. Notably, the U.S. is already building facilities to support up to six B-52 bombers with nuclear capacity at Tindal air base south of Darwin. The new "mission planning" and operations center in Darwin and the ongoing developments in Tindal demonstrate the U.S.' commitment to strengthening its military presence and capabilities in northern Australia.
The U.S. decision to invest heavily in the Northern Australian Territory also highlights the robust and lasting partnership between the two nations in the field of defense and security. With this investment, Australia is positioned to play a more crucial role in strategic U.S. military operations in the Indo-Pacific region. The improved facilities and operational support will allow for greater collaboration between U.S. and Australian forces, enhancing their ability to respond effectively to emerging challenges and threats in the region.

One of our most popular lines happens to be hot dogs. The standard hot dog, with mustard and ketchup has been a staple fast food, forever. When we decided to move it up a gear and offer hot dogs from around the world, with fillings such as sushi, nachos, even candy floss, we thought we were being a bit edgy. Out of interest we started looking at what other countries actually offer in their dogs, boy were we surprised, what we thought was edgy was nothing compared to some of the crazy stuff you can eat in other parts of the world. Here are a few of our favourites; Tokkebi From South Korea, The Deep-fried Delight Take one plain ole wiener, coat it in batter, deep fry it, then cover it in diced French fries. This is one crazy combo that could almost be a complete meal. Found mainly from street food vendors, the chips are sometimes replaced by ramen. Choripan, Argentina's Upgraded Dog Argentina, famous for invading mall South Atlantic Islands, footballers who score goals with their hands, and Gabriela Sabatini. To be fair the footballer in question was also fabulous when he wasn't cheating. They also produce one heck of an hot dog. Not for them the usual mystery meat concoction of left over parts of various animals. No, they use a high quality Chorizo sausage, that is is seared to make it crispy, then slotted into a toasted bun. Add chimichurri sauce or tomato salsa and you have the final evolution of the hot dog. Tunnbrödsrulle, The Crazy Swedes Entry Into The Hall Of Fame This is what you get if you take a hot dog, stick mix it with onions, shrimp salad, lettuce, mashed taters, mayonnaise and stick it inside a tortilla. Oh and don't forget to add the requisite mustard and ketchup. It hard to tell if this is a hot dog or a sandwich wrap. Either way it ranks up their alongside Abba and Volvo in things to love from Sweden. TBH it looks like the culinary version of a split personality, some sort of existential crisis wrapped in a flat bread. Taiwanese Da Chang Bao Xiao Chang The name of this fairly uneventful looking dog, translates as big sausage wrap small sausage. The bun you see in the picture isn't. It is actually another sausage made from sticky rice. Add in sauces including black pepper and our favourite wasabi, and you have something unlike any other hot dog you will meet. Chinese Pastry Hot Dog If the Swedish entry is an existential crisis, this one is a full on split personality. Is it a dessert or is it a main. Take your bog standard frankfurter and wrap it in sweet pastry. Its so obvious, you wonder why no one else is doing it. They also come coated with different topping such as cheese, icing frosting, egg dough. Its as if you have been talking in your sleep about your favourite foods, and an alien has decided to make them for you, having never actually seen them before. Khanom Tokyo, Is It A Hot Dog Or A Breakfast Roll Thailand takes the existential crises of the Taiwanese hot dog and takes it to the stage of certifiably insane. Of all the things you would naturally think to stick a hot dog in, a pancake would surely be the first thing that comes to mind. Made from flat pancakes that have a mixture of savoury and sweet ingredients such as quail eggs, sugar ,cream, Someone in Thailand came up with the idea of sticking a sausage in. The dish is said to hail from around 1960 and was served at the opening of a Japanese department store (which could explain the craziness), its now a staple of Thai street food. Czech Párek V Rohlíku Hot Dog Compared to the oriental offerings this one is plain simple. A hot dog in a bun. Where it does differ slightly from what you are used to, is that this is pretty much like the roller dogs you sometimes see in service stations. A crusty bun that has had the middle cut out and the sausage inserted. Quite neat really, though you need to add your toppings before you had the dog. Brazil's Completo Hot Dog This one is less of a fast food snack and more of a meal for 2, Take a hot dog sausage, stick it in a large flattened bun, add ground beef, peas, corn niblets, bell peppers, onions, potato sticks, parmesan cheese, carrots, diced ham or bacon, cilantro, and top it off with a hard boiled quail egg. It is a wonder the Brazilians aren't all the size of the Americans. Peru's Salchipapas Hot Dogs A weird one this, there is no bun and the hot dog is sliced. Placed on a bed of fries and garnished with the usual mustard and ketchup, then chilli sauce and mayo for added tang. You can also throw in salad, fried egg and cheese. A staple street food found in various South American countries this ain't what springs to mind when you say hot dogs. Puka Dog Hawaii A mish mash of hot dog traditions this one. A Polish sausage, grilled then slipped into a sweet bun. Dress with relishes, garnishes and tropical mustards and voila, another entry into the hot dog hall of fame. Norwegian Pølse Hot Dogs You don't get much simpler than this, well there are some single celled organisms I suppose, and that lad I once sat next to at school, but in the hot dog world this is bare bones. Sort of the Trabant of dogs. Simple, easy to make, no frills and it just works. A tortilla, with a sausage in and a dollop of condiments. Enough said about Norwegian dogs. Denmark's Pølser Though it shares a name with it's Norwegian neighbour, the Danish version is a whole different beast. The sausage spills out of the bun, both ends, its filled with Danish remoulade, sliced pickles and onions and tends to be served on special occasions. The one stand out feature is the sausage which is a vibrant red colour, reminiscent of the British saveloy. It originates from bygone times, when vendors would dip their poor quality sausages in red dye to 'spruce' them up. New Zealand Hot Dog Our cousins across the Ocean's take on a hot dog is very similar to what our other cousins across a different ocean (the Yanks) would term a corn dog. Basically a battered sausage, deep fried and served on a stick, with ketchup. However you look at it, the humble hot dog is as near to a universal food as you will find. Sure, some cultures take it in a weird (to us) direction, but at the heart of them is usually the hot dog sausage. Read the full article

Humanity ended on the planet Earth and there are nothing but ruins everywhere. El after del Mundo (The World's After) is an animated short film created by Florentina González. After everything was destroyed, there weren't many living creatures around there. The story starts with a soul seeking a stable wifi connection. His luck isn't in his favor but he's persistent. Eventually, he meets with another ghost, we begin to realize their relationship and similar sides as well as opposites. While their environment changes the story develops. The animation and character design are spectacular, the story hooks the viewer to other aspects. In some moments I felt the same vibe with Midnight Gospel, a Netflix-produced animated series. In some ways, the similarity is out there and that also gave me comfort and let me into the story. El after del Mundo does not need any praise from anyone because the awards they get from festivals show its value. You can check Florentina González's Instagram and Vimeo profiles for more information. You can also watch the short film from Vimeo with close captions as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRMnwjmSNH0
