Lando Norris (McLaren) - Moving Home
Requested: yes
Prompt: Moving in with Lando x
Warnings: nope
Tumblr media
Lando gazed at the picturesque English countryside as they walked hand in hand up the pebbled driveway. The prospect of moving back to England with his girlfriend, Y/n, was an exciting one. He had missed the rolling hills and the vibrant culture and in all honesty, Monaco had gotten been a bit boring after a while. He remember how he tried convincing Y/n to just move to Monaco and not worry about uni since he said he would take care of her forever, but she was not going to just give up on university that easily.
As they approached a house with a "For Sale" sign, Lando couldn't help but feel a spark of anticipation. The real estate agent, a friendly man named James, greeted them with a warm smile. "Hello there! You must be Lando and Y/n. Very lovely to meet you." James said, shaking their hands. Lando smiled. "Nice to meet you, James. We're looking forward to finding the perfect place." He said, holding his hand out for Y/n to take. "Well, hopefully this is it. It's truly a remarkable house." James saud as he led them inside the house, a grand property with a spacious garden and elegant architecture. As they explored the rooms, Y/n's eyes lit up at the features that matched her wishlist.
"I'll let you both have a look around yourselves. I just need to make a call." James said before leaving the room. "This is beautiful, but-" Y/n hesitated, glancing at Lando with concern. "It's quite expensive, isn't it? Almost 4 million pounds." Lando squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, love. I want us to have the best. I'll take care of it." Y/n smiled, feeling a wave of warmth. "You're sure? It won't be too much will it?" Lando laughed. "Darling, I got paid 20 million last year. This place is not not much." They continued the tour, discussing how they would decorate each room and imagining their life in this idyllic setting.
Over tea in the cozy kitchen, they finalized their decision. Lando looked at Y/n with determination. "This is the one. I want you to be happy, and if it means a beautiful home in England, then it's worth every penny." Y/n's eyes shimmered with gratitude as they held each9thwrs hand on the table. "Perfect, I can get a payment plan started out for you if you'd like and then-"
"No, no, I have the money just tell me when you want it and I'll send it on over." The dealer was gobsmacked. He didn't exactly know how to react to this 24 year old saying he can just pay off his house whenever it is needed. "I mean, whenever you'd like to move in." Lando nodded. "Let me call my bank and I'll have the money sent over." Lando stood up, smoothenlling out his shirt and shaking hands with James. "Please doing business." Jame said. "I will call you to finalise everything." Lando placed his hand behind Y/n. "Of course, we'll be in touch."
A matter of weeks later, Lando and Y/n shared laughter as they tackled the mountain of boxes in their new home. "I hope our furniture isn't lost in this bloody cardboard." Lando quipped, holding up a lampshade. Y/n chuckled, setting a box down. "Well, at least we'll have a well-lit maze." Lando plopped down onto the sofa, completely exhausted from hoisting boxes around everywhere. "You okay?" Y/n asked sitting beside him. "Just tired. I honestly thought being a racing driver would prepare me for this, but these boxes are giving me a headache." Y/n leaned on his shoulder. "Well, maybe if you drove as fast as you unpack, we'd be done by now."
"Rude."

Content warnings: yandere, angst(?), some descriptions of capitalism, you're locked up
Summary: You are a bakery owner and you and your shop are going to be evicted by the IPC. Unfortunately, Aventurine is the one handling the plans.
Note: I suddenly want to write this very much...sorry, I don't know what I am writing...🥹
According to the calendar of your home planet, you spent all your savings and bought a bakery three years ago.
Once upon a time, you had your own ideals, which were woven into unrealistic dreams in your childhood paintings. When you become an adult, you realize that adults use lies to pile up in school and blow up beautiful bubbles. Those lies are probably the beginning of your idealized misfortune. Your dream goes from unrealistic to another. Under consumerism, you want a property of your own, with one room, a large living room, an open kitchen, and a ceiling where you can sleep while looking at the stars. Approximately 8,000,000 credits. You deposit money into the Cosmic Bank. Staring at the rising numbers in the bank account with tired eyes, health has been replaced by some slowly rising numbers and countless nights.
Then, you collapse. Your ideal transforms into a spaceship for 1,200,000 credits. However, classmates and friends of Universe University in the same year shared on social media that they had gotten married step by step, had children, and had a lovely next generation from the artificial womb. The venue for their proposal was on a romantic planet with endless sea, sky and seagulls. A growing sense of comparison creates unnecessary suffering. Others tell you, go ahead, just like others, work, save money, buy a house, buy a car, get married, have children, bring new blessings to the universe, and believe in an Aeon you like.
Best is Qlipoth. They said. Everyone said so.
That's the Aeon that IPC fervently believes in. They may not necessarily know about the walls and protections made by Qlipoth, but people must know that IPC is a huge company involved in the economy of the entire universe. Their golden bodies symbolize enviable wealth in people's eyes.
But spacecraft are out of reach. You figured this out through a cheap and unpalatable 10-credit lunch and a scolding from your boss. You know you should set a more realistic goal.
Then let’s get a car with 30,000 credits. There are also jewelry for 50,000 credits. I'll go shopping after get off work. you said so.
You walked into the store and bought a car that met your expectations despite the salesperson's inner eye rolls and eager sales. Stroking its shell, eager joy surges into your heart, as if your hard work has been transformed into a visible reward. This is valuable. And jewelry, you buy a necklace that sparkles around your neck.
Your face was hot with excitement. There is value in this, keep it to yourself and it will appreciate in value!
Trembling with excitement, there is endless emptiness behind the joyful smile. Cosmic Express is responsible for delivering express delivery to your home. You browse the Internet and buy a list of unnecessary things to fill your misery and pain and stop the bleeding that might come out.
Then one day you quit your job after another scolding, knowing that you are just a cog in the functioning of society. You don't want to live like this anymore, but you don't know how to live without money and without getting married like others. You buy a spaceship ticket and wander off randomly. Romantic, casual and comfortable life. You think idealistically again to cheer yourself up. No matter where you go, you have to start a new life.
You arrive on a new planet, a beautiful and highly developed space society. The dome has a transparent dome woven from Qlipoth that envelopes the entire planet. You have heard that IPC has its headquarters here, but some say it is just one of its branches. Regardless, they obsessively imitated the architecture of Aeon Qlipoth, constructing a towering building with a beautiful transparent glass dome. It is stationed on the planet like a banyan tree, tirelessly absorbing money and energy.
You bought a small, independent bakery on one of the shopping streets, renovated it and prepared it for opening and used up almost all the credit in your bank account. But, you are happy, from the bottom of your heart, practicing your baking recipes and thinking about a bright future. On opening day, you put up a sign with a design on it. And greets all guests warmly. They smell the aroma of bread, follow the traces and step into your store, buying this and that bread and drinks. The aroma of food, warm bread, that is the breath of life.
-
One month after opening, Aventurine stepped into your bakery. When socializing at work, he accompanied his clients to drink and enjoy haute cuisine, with a charming smile. During lunch, he would choose a coffee shop or an elegant restaurant to sit and browse the stock market and invest. Those tens of millions of money came and went, only in exchange for a smile or a sip of coffee from him. Wonderful afternoon. Beautiful gamble. But that day, he smelled a different aroma of bread, and realized that a new store had opened in the commercial street.
He walked into the store and browsed the golden bread. Aventurine spent 2 minutes choosing toast and croissants, listening to the sound of money arriving on his phone. He glanced at you, who was in uniform and busy. It was inevitable that he thought from a professional and utilitarian perspective, wondering how this narrow store did not meet the requirements of modern business. Decoration, bread production, marketing, and store staffing. It would be foolish to hire just one clerk. Hiring just one more clerk can lead to more revenue. You obviously have your hands full.
He spent 2 minutes in line. When it was Aventurine's turn to pay, you gave him a warm smile, as warm as sunshine. These days, you remember some familiar faces of your customers. You're a little surprised by the new-faced customers arriving at the store.
You greet him and ask if he wants a takeout or just enjoy it in the store.
"Right here, thank you." Aventurine replied.
So Aventurine sat down, right in the bakery. He munched his bread and invested his money, living his daily life. Day after day, weeks and months passed. Occasionally, he pays attention to you. You always do all the work in the store, packing the bread, putting it on the shelves, and doing the cashiering. So one day, He asked out of curiosity. “Isn’t the bakery owner going to hire an extra employee?”
You opened your eyes wide and smiled awkwardly. "I-I'm the owner of this bakery."
Ah, so here's the answer. Aventurine nodded, you may not have more funds, but he accidentally started to invest and play, just like the play he had not completed in childhood. He loved investing, which was like finding a pearl in the ocean, playing Monopoly, playing with his assets. A desire arose spontaneously, satisfying his heart. "Have you considered expanding the store and staff? I see your bakery is very popular. I've witnessed many, but none like this, and swear there's some potential here."
"Really?" You were a little shy in the compliment. He was surprised at your naivety. "Thank you, but I have no plans yet."
"Oh, you're eating Brioche today." You looked down at the bread he selected. "You are a familiar face. Let me give you a discount. It only costs 200 credits."
Aventurine was about to refuse, but heard your question. "If you don't mind, could you tell me what you do for a living?"
He didn't understand the specific reason. Aventurine didn't want to reveal his work in front of you, so he muttered vaguely. "I'm in the gambling business."
"You mean the casino?" You blinked.
"Yeah, yes," he replied.
"That must be hard…" You recalled the casino in the drama, where the gamblers seemed likely to fight. He must have been mediating frequently there. After thinking about it, you gave him extra drinks and bread. “Here’s today’s special offer!”
Aventurine held the drink at a loss, feeling that the cold drink was radiating heat.
-
On a rainy and windy afternoon, Aventurine won't sit at your outdoor table. He returned to the IPC with the bread and pressed the button for the lift. One of the members of Ten Stonehearts saw him and asked caringly. "I can't see you eating in the office lately. Can you be full just by eating bread?"
"It's okay. I fill up easily." He smiled politely, even though he had eaten some more bread… He didn't refuse your offer.
He finished chewing the bread while scrolling through your bakery’s social media feeds on his phone. You like to update the bakery's social media and have accumulated about a few hundred likes per post. In the photo, you shared a new type of bread, and your passion for life is reflected in your eyebrows and eyes.
The department meeting is just after lunch. The holographic screen fluttered IPC's business plans and developments. IPC announced that one of its small plans was to acquire a new commercial street and all the businesses would have to move out. His eyes reflected the glowing words- your bakery is on that commercial street.
-
Gradually, that friendly customer who works at the casino becomes too busy to visit your bakery, or he finds a new restaurant. There's something empty inside you, like a piece is missing.
New signs were posted in the neighborhood, and other store owners who often borrowed flour and other supplies from each other knocked on your door and told you that the Interastral Peace Corporation was buying the street and that every store was going to be evicted. This will be the place where a new type of space commercial city will be built. Many companies will settle in and open stores. It will be beautiful and modern, just like other space commercial cities. You'd better discuss a compensation plan with IPC now and strive for better terms.
IPC may compromise, but with other economic systems of the entire planet, not with a small commercial street. They do what they say they will do.
Like a bolt from the blue, you repeatedly confirmed and asked questions. Why does it have to be here? Why? What are their plans? How much will the compensation be? The IPC wants the compensation to be as small as possible, and the shop owners will fight for it, but the court is on their side. So don’t be too tough in your attitude, be more diplomatic, be more worldly, and seek more benefits for you. they said.
Many shop owners have signed up for the compensation plan. You are one of the few shop owners who are too stubborn to embrace the world. Guard this shop like a dragon guarding the last treasure. As the deadline gets closer, you notice more rude customers, the ingredient supplier says they can no longer serve you, and some negative messages and reviews appear to smear you. There are also people in all-black uniforms looking outside your store. That's downright creepy.
But you are not afraid, what you are afraid of is that something will be taken away from you again. Those capitalists are used to taking something from you and then giving you something in compensation. Before it was salary, now it's compensation plans.
Occasionally, you bow to reality and pay attention to some new stores, but those prices cannot be bought with compensation.
One night, before you close the shop, you hear the sound of construction work, destroying the original shops. It's not loud and noisy, it's a new space construction technology, but you're terrified and just want to pack up and go home. You have filed a complaint with the court. Once again, you place your hopes on the ethereal, and then you see a figure appear at the window of the bakery.
Ah, it's that customer. He must be here to support you and buy bread.
You maintained your smile and greeted him, "I haven't seen you recently. Where have you been?"
Aventurine just stared. There was some compassion in his expression, and his features were soft. He knew that the gentlest of measures would not work. “…let me talk to you about the new compensation plan.”
You were stunned for a while. "…What do you mean?"
He hands you a card with neatly printed handwriting and the IPC logo.
“Aventurine, Senior Manager in the IPC Strategic Investment Department”
You held the card and read it for a while before looking up at him. Your throat was dry but tears were streaming down your face. The holographic screen projects a new plan, specially prepared for you stubborn, idealistic people, to provide better compensation.
"…Go away, I don't want to see you!" You paused for half a minute before getting angry and pushing him out of the store. What flows inside is anger at the betrayal, even though you know he doesn't have to support you. Aventurine's arms opened up to embrace you. You were shocked, struggling, and sobbing. "I don't want to see you…you are with them…I have nothing, and you still want to take it away…"
Halted like an emotional kitten, you whimpered, tired from sobbing, sleep overtook you and darkness enveloped you.
You opened your eyes and found yourself in a luxurious room, with stars visible on the ceiling and a soft quilt covering you. Pillow supports your head. You adjusted to the light for a few seconds, frowned, and moved your hands, but the sound of the chain sounded. You looked at the chains on your hands, stunned, shaking and struggling. "What-what's going on?"
"Ah, you're awake." Aventurine opened the door and came in. He touched your forehead, and you realized that the clothes you were wearing had also been changed. They were a set of pajamas. "What happened?" You shook the chain in your hand in confusion. "Someone attacked us last night?" "Um, it's not like that actually."
Aventurine comforted you and shushed you. "You're locked in. Shhh...shhh, don't scream. I know this may be hard to accept at first, but you'll see the benefits."
He explained, to your expression like a frightened little animal. "…For business purposes, I looked into your background. You've been having a hard time, haven't you? Now you finally have time to relax. This is one of my houses, and it's yours, too."
"I didn't ask you..." Tears welled up in your eyes. Are you going to be locked up? "I know." Aventurine stroked your head gently. "I know, now just relax. I'll take care of the bakery. We'll open a new one somewhere with the ocean, you know, new plans."
You noticed that he used the word "we," which made your heart feel strangely warm. You were speechless, closed your eyes, turned around, a tear flowed down your cheek, and the chain creaked.
This is your new reality, but at least you can rest, right?

The Emperor's New Groove (2000, Mark Dindal)
17/01/2024
The Emperor's New Groove is a 2000 animated film directed by Mark Dindal.
It is the 40th Disney classic, and began as an epic musical called Kingdom of the Sun with directors Dindal and Roger Allers, but over the course of its six years of production it was transformed by Disney executives into a light buddy comedy about Kuzco, a young and selfish Inca emperor who, mistakenly transformed into a llama by his former advisor Yzma in an attempt to poison him, tries to regain his human form aided by the generous farmer Pacha, who teaches him to be altruistic.
The film, shown for the first time in the United States on December 15, 2000, was not a great financial success but received generally positive reviews, being considered one of the best films of Disney's post-Renaissance era and being nominated for an Academy Award for Best song for My Funny Friend and Me, performed by Sting.
However, the film achieved greater success and notoriety from the public later, thanks to excellent sales on the home-video market, and had a sequel and direct-to-video spin-off entitled Kronk's New Groove (2005) and an animated television series entitled The Emperor's New School (2006-2008).
Kuzco, a spoiled, selfish and arrogant young Inca emperor, intends to build, as a birthday present, a new holiday home with a swimming pool called Kuzcotopia on the top of a hill, at the price of destroying an entire village of farmers. Due to the naivety of Kronk, Yzma's aide, a potion is poured into the glass from which the emperor drinks that transforms him into a llama.
The emperor ventures into the jungle alone, coming across a pack of black jaguars; saved at the last minute by Pacha, Kuzco accepts the latter's conditions to be able to return to the palace.
Meanwhile, Yzma celebrates the emperor's funeral and is proclaimed empress; while she toasts with Kronk to her success, the latter lets slip that the emperor is still alive, so the two leave together to look for him.
Kuzco: protagonist of the story, he is the emperor of the Inca Empire.
The idea for Kingdom of the Sun was conceived by Roger Allers and Matthew Jacobs, and development of the project began in 1994. When pitching the project to Disney's then-CEO and president Michael Eisner, the latter said that "it has all the elements of a classic Disney film", and thanks to his success as director of The Lion King that same year, Eisner gave Allers carte blanche with both casting and plot. In January 1995 Variety reported that Allers was working on "an original Incan-themed story".
In 1996 the production team took a trip to Machu Picchu, Peru, to study Inca artifacts and architecture and the landscape in which this empire was created.
Kingdom of the Sun was supposed to be the story of a greedy, selfish emperor (voiced by David Spade) who finds a farmer who looks just like him (voiced by Owen Wilson); the emperor trades places with the peasant for fun, just as in Mark Twain's archetypal novel The Prince and the Pauper. However, the evil witch Yzma plans to summon the evil god Supay and capture the sun so she can stay young forever (the sun gives her wrinkles, so she speculates that living in a world of darkness would prevent her from aging).

I've finally achieved my goal to check out the infamous Digger webcomic that's been lying in my firefox bookmark for an embarrassingly amount of years. Critically acclaimed as it were, I was baffled on how a story about a wombat could wow even the hardiest of critics.
Then I read it, and I recall some bit of skepticism. Within the span of a chapter or two, the titular Digger runs into Ganesha, his worshipers, a shadowy child with zero comprehension of general principles and morals, hyena people, dead gods, and oh, and an oracular slug.
They seemed so widely disconnected that I couldn't imagine how Ursula Vernon could connect them seamlessly to its world. Turns out, she didn't have to try pretty hard. And to be fair, Digger didn't give enough credit to this magic-infused world. ...At first.
Tumblr media
This is the expression she gives off on a frequent basis, because she's surrounded by well-meaning chosen one monks who is a tad mad after seeing a horrifying god figure, compassionate gods who understand her frustration yet require so much of her, ethical dilemmas and too many questions with little answers, a dude with a deer head brought upon himself through sheer dumbassery, lizard people whose honor and culture revolves around the skins they cut off from people (and they do not necessarily have to be corpses), and so forth.
And I think a combination of Digger pointing out the absurdity of the world blends all these seemingly random elements into a cohesive whole. A lot of this is owed to the creator's anthropologist background: her knowledge of human culture and religion shines and she treats every single element equally and with great care.
Digger is great because it stars a wombat who is disdainful of Godly figures and is quick to rationalize what others take for granted, but is just as often an eccentric byproduct of her culture (her behavior is just in the nature of wombat society; it's a world of proper planning, architecture/geology, and loads of paperwork.) She desperately wants to go home, but eventually grows attached to the people around her and learns to respect them, be they be a Monk or a prophetic slug because she, ultimately, wants to do the right thing. And they, in turn, treat her in equal measure.
It's a comic where philosophical, cultural, and ethical differences mean these characters can discuss and debate about the individual world they live in, but also unite and understand each other. And that's really the beauty of Digger; we are all empathetic and willing to listen to another, even if our lives are different and maybe contradictory to one another. Ultimately, they're all good people trying to rationalize the world they live, be it through logic or faith or whatever. And they can all act as one to stop something far more damning.
Digger is a wordy comic, but it was actually a breeze to read. I think Ursula Vernon's magic with lengthy text boxes is owe to how she utilizes it. With dialogue, they're often short and manageable. Whenever Digger narrates though, the giant text box is often superimposed over looming backdrops of nature and towns that the character is currently in. The simplicity of the background (further helped by its generous use of chiaroscuro) means it affords a space to breathe in spite of any ongoing blabbering.
I'm kicking myself for not reading this further, because now I'd love to own the omnibus, but it's been out of stock for a while (though the individual volumes are still up for sale.) I'm sure this comic has been compared to another particular graphic novel before, so I'm very sorry for being tedious, but it reminds me of BONE so damn much. Maybe that's also why I liked it.
Man, I'm so glad I read this. Digger is so friggin' good at mixing ethical, religious, cultural, and societal discussion and worldbuilding without the pretentiousness that often comes with it. I feel very enlightened having read this, but also find it engaging, funny (using foot notes to humorously describe wombat culture was a treat), open-minded, and hopeful. It's a great demonstration of the marks we have left on this planet for thousands of years, and how it carries on through out descendants. We can make of it however we can.

Acclaimed Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas described it a masterpiece of experimental architecture. Singaporeans were drawn to it for its atmosphere and the abundance of cheap Thai food. For Thais living in Singapore, it was a home away from home.
Golden Mile Complex, also known as Little Thailand, was sold in 2021 to a consortium which will redevelop the building. As it has been gazetted as a conserved building by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, its physical structure is likely to be preserved. However, the same cannot be said for its unique character. Its tenants – a mix of inexpensive Thai eateries, seedy bars and tiny shops selling Thai perishables – were given until May 2023 to move out. Now that they have dispersed, they are unlikely to return.
As an era in the building’s history ends, it is timely to look back at its history, which goes back five decades.
Building Golden Mile Complex
Officially opened on 28 January 1972, Golden Mile Complex was an urban renewal project by the government to “redevelop and rejuvenate the slum-ridden areas in the Singapore city centre”.1 In the 1960s, the site was home to squatter settlements, small-time furniture and rattan makers, and the Kampong Glam Community Centre.2
In June 1967, then Minister for Law and National Development E.W. Barker announced that the area would be one of 14 urban redevelopment projects which would be transformed – resulting in modern skyscrapers, luxury apartments, hotels and shops – to give rise to a “new look Singapore”. These projects would involve the participation of private enterprises.3
Singapura Developments won the tender for the three-acre site that would eventually host Golden Mile Complex with a proposal for a building by the architecture firm Design Partnership (now known as DP Architects), which was then helmed by William S.W. Lim, Tay Kheng Soon and Koh Seow Chuan. The three men had convinced Singapura Developments to bid for the site in May 1969, offering the unusual proposition for a single building that would integrate shops, offices and apartments. Although the concept differed sharply from the government’s original proposal for luxury apartments on the plot, Lim, Tay and another architect, Gan Eng Oon, proved their design could work with an economic feasibility study that included precisely calculated land and sale prices.4
The all-in-one design of Golden Mile Complex marked a significant shift from how city planners in Singapore then traditionally segregated areas into different zones for “live, work, play”. In fact, it embodied Lim’s vision for “megastructures” that would contain all the functions of a city within a building, which he believed to be the future of Asian cities.
“We must reject outdated planning principles that seek to segregate man’s activities into arbitrary zones, no matter how attractive it may look in ordered squares on a land use map. We must reject arbitrary standards laid down that limit the intensive use of land,” said Lim and Tay as part of an essay for the Singapore Planning and Urban Research Group that was published in Asia Magazine in 1966.5 This vision was realised in Golden Mile Complex: a concrete megastructure that became one of the earliest mixed-use developments in Singapore and Asia.6
In January 1970, Singapura Developments began marketing the property and declared that “The Golden Mile Race Is On”. All 64 apartments were snapped up within a month, and most of the offices and shops were sold by the time building works commenced in May 1970.7
The building was originally named Woh Hup Complex, after the parent company of Singapura Developments. Rising 16 storeys, the edifice was designed in the Brutalist style popular in Europe and North America from the 1950s to the 1970s.8 It was constructed in a stepped terraced design held up by two end pillars that each adorned a star logo by Singapore’s leading graphic designer William Lee.9 Such a facade maximised waterfront views for the 64 apartments and maisonette penthouses spread across the topmost seven floors.
The next six floors housed 210 offices and studios to complete the tower that was seemingly pried apart in the middle. This sheltered a residential play deck facing Beach Road on the 10th storey while letting in natural light and ventilation into the office corridors and a three-storey podium. The latter comprised 360 shops that sat atop a basement carpark for 550 vehicles.
Completing the facilities was a four-storey residential car park at one end of the building that was topped with an open-air swimming pool overlooking the former Crawford Park. All these different functions were connected by corridors, including a “street” that ran through the podium of shops. The result was an interiorised environment designed to “encourage human interaction and intensify public life”.10
A Hub of Modernity
Woh Hup Complex was part of a pioneering wave of shopping centres to open in Singapore in the early 1970s, along with People’s Park Complex in Chinatown and Tanglin Shopping Centre and Specialists’ Centre in the Orchard Road area.
Like many of the complexes built then, Woh Hup Complex was also a strata-titled development. This form of property ownership was introduced by the government in 1968 to allow individual owners to have a share of a land. It allowed property developers to quickly recoup their investment by tapping on a pool of buyers, and also enabled individuals to participate in the on-going modernisation of Singapore.11
Woh Hup Complex offered shop lots in various sizes, starting from a 144-square-foot lot for just $16,500.12 The prices were lower compared to other shopping centres because the complex was at the city centre fringe. But its developer remained bullish about its prospects. “We offer easy parking, no frayed nerves while coming up here,” said T.M. Yong, a director at Singapura Developments. “Our shop owners will most probably be able to offer goods at lower prices.”13 The earliest tenants in the complex were an eclectic mix of shoe retailers, beauty salons, photo studios, furniture suppliers, travel agents, eateries, restaurants and nightclubs.14
As one of the first buildings to offer modern office spaces in Singapore, Woh Hup Complex attracted many businesses too. Singapura Developments and its parent company Woh Hup as well as Design Partnership set up offices in the building.15 The complex also became known for its many architecture and engineering firms, including OD Architects who were conceiving the masterplan for the National University of Singapore’s Kent Ridge campus, Cardew and Rider Engineers who were working with Design Partnership on Marina Square, and several engineering firms involved in the construction of Singapore’s up-and-coming Mass Rapid Transit network.16
But a decade after the complex opened, there were complaints of interrupted water supply, faulty air-conditioning and lifts, leaking roofs, rotting ceiling boards, rubbish piling up along the corridors, and broken or missing lights.17 These were reported after Woh Hup exited the property market and sold Singapura Developments along with its properties to City Developments in 1981.18 Woh Hup Complex was then renamed Golden Mile Complex.
The Rise of “Little Thailand”
By the mid-1980s, many of the building professionals had moved their offices elsewhere and Golden Mile Complex became better known as the haunt of foreign construction workers, specifically those from Thailand.
After work, particularly on Sundays and public holidays, homesick Thai workers thronged Golden Mile Complex to drink Singha beer, catch up on news back home by reading Thai newspapers, and listen to Thai music on cassette tapes. The draw for most was the various eateries selling Thai food at reasonable prices on the ground floor. Not only did these establishments serve food just like home, they served them on tables and chairs “scattered in front of food shops” or along the corridors and the concourse – just “[like] a street corner in Haadyai or Bangkok”.19
Golden Mile Complex was also the terminal for tour buses plying the Singapore-Haadyai route operated by travel agencies located in the complex and the neighbouring Golden Mile Tower. As the Thai clientele in the complex grew, it became referred to as “Little Bangkok” and “Little Thailand”.20 The Thai community injected new life into what was then a rapidly ageing Golden Mile Complex, and attracted even more shops to serve the community. A tailor in the complex reportedly expanded from one shop to seven to sell all things Thai, while a “100% genuine Thai style” disco named Pattaya opened in 1988 on the second floor.21 There was even a 50-seat “cinema” that screened kick-boxing specials and Thai features at $3 a ticket.22
In 1986, the Straits Times reported that Golden Mile Complex “would be a ghost town but for the office workers, who appear at lunch time, and the Thais, who have made it their haunt”. Dorothy, a secretary working in an architecture firm in the complex, told the Straits Times: “Before the Thais started coming here about four years ago, the place was very dead. Now, it’s sometimes so noisy that you get a headache.” Because fights would occasionally break out, she was not a fan of the place. “For Thai food, I’d rather go to Joo Chiat,” she added.23 Her sentiments were shared by many other Singaporeans who avoided Golden Mile Complex on Sundays.
As one shopowner explained: “Our Sunday business has been hit. Some customers stay away because of the Thai character of the place.” A food stall operator added: “The Thais linger for hours, drinking beer and eating their favourite beef noodles. Sometimes, they fight among themselves over a few drinks.”24
It did not help that migrant workers and the complex were often in the news for the wrong reasons. As part of the government’s massive crackdown on illegal migrants in March 1989, 370 suspected Thai undocumented workers at Golden Mile Complex were nabbed in a single operation.25
National Icon or National Disgrace?
In 1994, Rem Koolhaas visited Singapore and marvelled at its development in his seminal essay “Singapore Songlines”. He was particularly captivated by Golden Mile Complex and People’s Park Complex, which he praised as “‘masterpieces’ of experimental architecture/urbanism”.26 On his next visit to Singapore in 2005, Koolhaas said: “These buildings were not intended to be landmarks but became landmarks. Yesterday, I went to see all the buildings again, and they are absolutely stunning, radical and amazing.”27
While Koolhaas and many in the architecture fraternity saw Golden Mile Complex as the future, most Singaporeans regarded it as a relic of the past. By the 1990s, a slew of new shopping centres had sprung up near the complex, including Raffles City, Bugis Junction, Suntec City, Millenia Walk and Marina Square. Many felt Golden Mile Complex and other strata-title malls were simply no match for these single-owner developments that could plan a more attractive retail mix to woo shoppers.28 A 1996 article in the Straits Times assessed that Golden Mile Complex was unlikely to change because of its ownership structure and should simply “fill [the] low-end gap”.29
The disconnect between Golden Mile Complex’s celebrated architecture and its decline came to a head in 2006. During a parliamentary session on 6 March, then Nominated Member of Parliament Ivan Png called it a “vertical slum”. He was particularly irked by how each individual owner had added “extensions, zinc sheets, patched floors, glass, all without any regard for other owners and without any regard for national welfare”, resulting in “a terrible eyesore and a national disgrace”.
“The appearance of Golden Mile Complex appals me whenever I drive along Nicoll Highway. It must create a terrible impression on foreign visitors arriving from the airport. How can we be a world-class city in a garden? The Golden Mile Complex is just the most extreme of how a strata-title property can deteriorate,” he said.30
This came just after Golden Mile Complex was featured in Singapore 1:1 – City, a publication showcasing significant architecture and urban design in the city-state.31 “That’s a real joke!” said Png. “Can you imagine if that thing was standing on the Singapore River between OCBC Building and UOB Centre?” He added: “It just gives me goosebumps. It’s so close to the city, yet it’s so unlike Singapore – orderly, tidy, everything neat. It’ll drag us down.”32
Not everyone agreed with his criticism. Retiree Evelyn Ong, who moved into the complex in 2005, immediately booked her 11-storey apartment after seeing the breathtaking views. She said: “Once I stepped in and saw the view, I said book, book, must book.” She bought her 1,000-square-foot apartment for about $310,000, and spent about $70,000 on renovations to make it look like a holiday resort. “I think I’m very lucky. It’s so difficult to find such a nice view. Every day, I sit here (at my balcony) and I can see the beautiful lights at night.” She agreed that more could be done to spruce up the building though.33
The local architecture fraternity pushed back against Png’s comments. In August 2006, Calvin Low, a trained architect and journalist, kickstarted a monthly series on local architecture in the Straits Times and titled his first article “Golden Mile Still Shines”.
“The architectural thesis that GMC [Golden Mile Complex] represented was revolutionary – not just for Singapore but globally, too. It stood as a concrete realisation of the architects’ vision of a futuristic city-within-a-building that offered a whole, new integrated way of living in a modern, tropical, urban Asian context,” he wrote.34
In November the same year, a collective of architects, designers and artists known as FARM launched “Save the Modern Building Series”, a lineup of talks to raise awareness of the complex and other pioneering modern buildings such as Pearl Bank Apartments.35 In November 2007, the inaugural architecture festival, Singapore ArchiFest 07 – organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects to celebrate Singapore’s built environment – featured tours of the complex conducted by architecture students from the National University of Singapore.36
A Landmark Saved, a Community Lost
In August 2018, news broke that more than 80 percent of the owners of units in the complex had agreed to put the building up for an en bloc sale at $800 million. This came hot on the heels of the sale of another modernist icon, Pearl Bank Apartments,37 just six months earlier. Heritage and architectural experts were dismayed at the news. “It will be a tragedy and a great loss to Singapore if the en-bloc sale results in the demolition and redevelopment of such an important urban landmark with such high architectural and social significance,” said heritage conservation expert Ho Weng Hin.38
Although architects and academics petitioned for Golden Mile Complex to be conserved, residents were in two minds about it. The complex’s long-time residents confessed they could no longer keep up with the building’s maintenance needs. “The problem is that it’s an old building, and when it rains, the water seeps through some of the walls. The building has water-proofing issues,” said Ponno Kalastree, who had lived and worked there since 1989. He was among those who had voted for the sale and was planning to downgrade to a Housing and Development Board flat, but admitted that he would miss the place.39
To the surprise of many, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) told the Business Times in October 2018 that they have “assessed the building to have heritage value, and is in the process of engaging the stakeholders to explore options to facilitate conservation”. “Modern architecture, dating from our recent past, is a significant aspect of our built heritage, and we have selectively conserved a number of such buildings. Where there is strong support and merits for conservation, we will work with the relevant stakeholders to facilitate the process,” said the URA. This meant that the existing building could be retained while a new block would be added next to it.40
The tender closed in January the following year without any offer, and a second tender launched just two months later with the same terms and price tag of $800 million suffered the same fate.41
Almost one year after the two failed collective sales, the URA announced in October 2020 that it was officially proposing Golden Mile Complex to be conserved in light of its historical and architectural significance.42 When it was gazetted a year later in October 2021, Golden Mile Complex became the “first modern, large-scale strata-titled development to be conserved in Singapore”.43
The owners relaunched an en bloc sale in December that year at the same price of $800 million.44 This time, the sale was successful and the complex was sold in May 2022 to a consortium comprising Far East Organization, Sino Land and Perennial Holdings. Although their bid was $100 million lower than the reserve price, the owners agreed to the sale within “a record time of 15 days”.45
At the point of publishing this essay, the new owners have yet to reveal how they plan to redevelop Golden Mile Complex, though it is unlikely that any of the former tenants will return. The battle to conserve Golden Mile Complex has, ironically, cost the community who kept it alive when others moved on to swankier new buildings. But all, however, is not lost. The redevelopment of Golden Mile Complex could serve as a model for how other similar buildings in Singapore can be conserved and enjoy a new lease of life for the future.

Scandinavian Style House Plan
Tumblr media
Modern Scandinavian house plans are flexible and adaptable to changing lifestyles. This allows homeowners to transform rooms based on their needs.
Simple and Minimalist Design Style
The style is simple and minimalist yet cozy and influenced by nature. It is often described as "lagom." It means a balance between function and beauty. Here are some ways to incorporate this design style in your home.
Scandinavian design embraces a variety of natural materials to add texture, warmth and a connection to nature. Wood slat walls, exposed beams, and light wooden furniture are common throughout the home. Embracing hygge, soft textiles like sheepskin area rugs and throw blankets are used in conjunction with modern straight lines to create cozy, functional spaces.
Tumblr media
Large windows and skylights allow natural light to flood interior rooms, providing a healthy and bright living environment. Having a steeply pitched roof is also a must, as it helps to shed snow and other harsh weather elements. When buying a Scandinavian style house there are many things you need to pay attention to and think about.
Creating Scandinavian Exterior Lighting
Adding house numbers, mailboxes and unique exterior lighting can help to customize your Scandinavian style home. Decorative accents like doormats and planters can also bring the style together for a personal touch. When it comes to decorating, avoid using too many colors or patterns, as this can feel too busy. Instead, choose a few small pieces of artwork to draw the eye and enhance the clean lines of the room.
Large windows are a staple of Scandinavian house plans. They help to bring in natural light while preserving privacy and warmth. Often, these windows are double or triple-glazed to keep out the cold and save energy.
Tumblr media
With their neutral color palette and large windows, Scandinavian home plans offer a timeless look that appeals to many homeowners. However, this style can also be updated with contemporary elements like an open floor plan, technology integration, and flexible living spaces that adapt to changing lifestyles.
Scandinavian-Style Home Design
The defining traits of a Scandinavian-style home are its simplicity, functionality, and connection to nature. Its timeless design has captured the attention of architects and homeowners worldwide. Learn more about the history and current trends of this architectural style to find out how you can incorporate Scandinavian-inspired elements into your home. Then, discover our collection of Scandinavian-style house plans to find the perfect fit for you.
Modern Scandinavian design emerged in the 1950s alongside a wave of modernist movements that swept across Europe and North America. The style focuses on clean lines, functional furniture, and a neutral color palette. It also encourages natural light, open spaces, and a cozy feel.
Tumblr media
In the bedroom, opt for a low-profile platform bed with an upholstered frame that aligns with Scandinavian aesthetics. Keep your duvet covered in a white or grey linen for a sleek look. Add a few minimalist nightstands and a wooden dresser to keep the space clutter-free and in line with the design's principles. The simplest idea for us to get a Scandinavian house is through the property sales site property.thegardengranny.com.

623 ~ Part 2
623 East 68th Street: The Most Iconic Address on Television!
Tumblr media
623: THE BUILDING
The Mertzes apartment building was completely fictional. Although based on traditional New York brownstones, the address 623 East 68th Street would have been located in the East River!
Tumblr media
All the scenes had to be filmed on one of two soundstages in Hollywood, California. The Ricardo apartment took up the bulk of the studio, with a larger space for the Tropicana. Everything else had to be staged within the Tropicana set (far right).
Tumblr media
In the long-unaired "I Love Lucy” pilot (1951), the Ricardos don’t live at 623 East 68th Street, but in a seventh floor apartment in the Theatre District.  When the writers invented the characters of Fred and Ethel Mertz for the series, Lucy and Ricky’s address was changed.  Being a ‘house-bound’ sitcom, location was integral to the show’s success. Location, Location, Location!
Tumblr media
623 may be based on the Wilcox Apartments in Jamestown, NY.  Lucy and her family moved there after being forced to sell their family home in nearby Celoron.
~ THE STREET ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The front of the building was seen in five episodes: “Getting Ready” (1954). Is that Central Park in the background?
Tumblr media
“Lucy Learns to Drive” (1955) ...
Tumblr media
“California Here We Come” (1955) ...
Tumblr media
“The Homecoming” (1955) ...
Tumblr media
and “The Ricardos Are Interviewed” (1955).
Tumblr media
View of East 68th Street in “Lucy and Superman” (1957) from...
~ THE LEDGE ~
Tumblr media
Lucy went out on the ledge to spy on Ricky and the Mertzes in “Lucy Cries Wolf” (1954). She ventured out there again in “Lucy and Superman” (1957). In “Wolf” the ledge only extended to the wall, but in “Superman” it extends around the corner and under the vacant apartment window, an architectural anomaly only possibly on television!
~ THE BASEMENT / FURNACE ROOM ~
Tumblr media
When “Lucy Writes a Novel” (1954) her shredded roman a clef is set to be burned with the trash.
Tumblr media
The basement / furnace room is also the location of “The Freezer” (1952). Trying to hide her newly-bought beef from Ricky, she stashes it in the furnace. When Fred lights gets a chill, it’s a barbecue feast for everyone at 623!
Tumblr media
The furnace (aka ‘the snooper’s friend) was used as an intercom in “The Gossip” (1952) and  “The Anniversary Present” (1952).
~ THE BACK PORCH / FIRE ESCAPE ~
Tumblr media
The back doors / porches of 623 are first seen in “Pioneer Women” (1952). The script called for Ricky to ride the horse through the door of the Ricardos' apartment. But when the horse saw the audience during filming, it got spooked so badly that the scene had to be changed so Ricky could ride the horse to the apartment building's back porch.
Tumblr media
Then again in “Never Do Business with Friends” (1953). Such porches were common in California apartment buildings, but less so in New York City.
Tumblr media
The Mertz’s back entrance in “The Quiz Show” (1951).
Tumblr media
“Too Many Crooks” (1953) gives us a glimpse of the fire escape outside the Ricardo bedroom.
~ THE ROOF ~
Tumblr media
“Vacation from Marriage” (1952), Lucy and Ethel get themselves locked on the roof!
Tumblr media
“Ricky and Fred are TV Fans” (1952) shows us a slightly different view of the roof during the same season. This will be the last time we see ‘Lucy on the Roof’! Sounds crazy, no?
ETHEL: “Listen, I happen to own this building!”  COP: “Yeah, and I’m J. Edgar Hoover.”
~ CLOSET SPACE ~
Tumblr media
A major selling point for any apartment is closet space!  In “I Love Lucy”, however, closets weren’t just for coats. In “The Kleptomaniac” (1952), Lucy and Ethel store treasures for their club tag sale in the Ricardo closet.
Tumblr media
In “Sentimental Anniversary” (1954), Lucy and Ricky’s plan for a romantic anniversary dinner at home is interupted by the Mertzes - so they hide in the closet.
Tumblr media
The Ricardo apartment has his 'n’ her closets on both sides of the bed. In “The Fur Coat” (1951), Lucy keeps her iconic polka dot dress in hers.
Tumblr media
In “Drafted” (1951), Lucy and Ethel invite folks to the boy’s going away party, while at the same time, Ricky and Fred invite folks to celebrate Lucy and Ethel’s blessed event. The hall closet gets crowded when they both stow arriving guests in there!
Tumblr media
In “The New Neighbors” (1952), Lucy hides out in the O’Brien’s closet - disguising herself as an armchair!
Tumblr media

Hello fellow nashuri moots hru hope your having an good end of the month. I have received so much likes and comments on this story. I’m so grateful for the your continued support and sharing. Without further ado chapter five.
Chapter 5: Bubastis
~Shuri~
I felt for the first time an urge to not be right yet we are. I was right Bubastis was all old tombs and desert.
“Griot, can you scan any other life or town around here?” I asked walking around.
“Scanning Princess” he replied.
I leaned against a pillar tired and frustrated we’d been here only five minutes and I was ready to go home. The emotional and mental weight on my shoulders added more additional pressure to my stress.
I’ve been scammed and bamboozled.
Before I could start going on a rant about how Bast would have to catch these hands and how I wanted to throw her in a vat of hair remover so she could look like that cat from cats and dogs the revenge of kitty galore.
“Princess in one of the tombs there is an sign of an oasis.” Griot cut into my sacrilege plans and revenge.
“Which direction?”
“Behind this temple”. I turned and entered the temple with statues of intact and eroded depictions of cats.
I delved deeper and found a crypt with a gold mask of a cat in the middle of the room a doorway in the middle of it open. I felt the humidity and a bright light ebbing from its cracks.
I carefully stepped through the room wary of traps and such. I slipped through the crack in the door and shielded my eyes from the light.
Tumblr media
-------------
The door quickly slammed closed behind me and before I could panic I came to the sight of a giant oasis. The water is clear and the air is similar to Wakanda’s. the trees and crops outlining the banks of the river.
I readied my black panther suit ready for whatever came next to tear away this serene scene and stepped more into the mysterious oasis. I turned to my left and couldn’t believe my eyes. There lay a big city with beautiful architecture and signs of vibranium in the buildings.
Tumblr media
I stumbled as two kids ran past me giggling.
It motivated me to move to enter the vibrant area. A bustling marketplace hummed in the familiar tune of bargaining, calls of sales, and orders being given.
I looked around in awe at the place and its liveliness. There was a thrum that brushed over me in care. No doubt Bastet was here, her followers had her depicted in their architecture and clothing a sign of her ingrained in every person.
But who out of all of them is really her? She said she could be a man, woman, or child and appear at any age but what makes her distinct?
“Griot any supernaturalness in anyone here other than me?” I asked reaching the square of the city and looking around.
“There is a faint trace calculating” I let out a frustrated moan and plopped down on a step.
‘So much for coming to me’ I rolled my eyes.
I took out my flask of water gulped down the cool drink and took a moment to observe and cool down. I smiled at the kind people who had started to approach and started to strike up a conversation. Some tried to get me to buy something or just gave me items and food for free.
A few hours later
The children took a shine to me as well urging me to play some soccer games and other games with them. The time slipped with each interaction until I was caught up in a conversation with a musician.
“How do you like Bubastis so far?” she said handing me some juices to try as we continued marveling and talking about the beautiful city and people.
“It’s beautiful I haven't seen a place like this anywhere else other than home(and talokan)” I replied sipping and humming at the sweet taste of the coconut and melon juice.
“Oh, and where is home?” she asked.
“It is like here the air is crisp, the water is clear and clean and the people are lively, and even when we fight we still forgive and grow and love each other.” I reminisced.
“Sounds wonderful I wish I could see it someday” She replied and before I could say something in response the children swarmed her and I.
“ ‘basti, ‘basti please do music for us please” they begged and we both laughed fondly at their eager pleas.
“Alright, alright my cubs I’ll make music for you what would you like me to play.” She asked turning to her guitar case and bringing out a guitar. And other musicians surrounded us ready to play.
“Sing a song from Nigeria”
“No no, sing a song from south africa”
“No, do an international piece we loved your singing from other continents they sound so beautiful coming from you ‘basti”
“Okay, little cubs how about I perform a song from India hmm” They vibrated with energy and nodded excitedly.
She said something in Coptic and the musicians started playing a serene tone. The singer started vocalizing, moving around and serenading the crowd.
Tumblr media
I quickly glanced at Griot's report and saw she was nearby. I scanned the crowd but saw no one resembling the goddess from my dreams.
Drums rang in the air catching my attention again as dancers started to appear out of nowhere in time with the beat and ‘Basti stood in the middle. What.
The video of dheera dheera from magdheera
She sang and danced with the mystery people and looked like a moving work of art her movement was flexible and graceful almost like a cat.
No way ‘basti, Ubasti, Bast.
She started changing forms she grew a bit taller and her skin formed a galaxy pattern. She formed ears and a tail and her irises slit to that of a cat the man who performed the duet with her was mystified and put even more effort into their performance.
“First time seeing Ubasti perform” a voice cut in and I turned to see an older woman sitting beside me.
“Yes is she…”
“The goddess yes”
“How did I not notice,” I asked turning part of my attention back to the goddess.
“She only exposes herself when she performs for the kids, they are the only ones who don’t fear her form and make it more comfortable seeking her.” exactly as she instructed someone will lead me to her, and then she would find me.
“It’s been a tradition since her birth that she performs for the people she sings, dances, and plays with us. Our days never result in anything but joy.”
The performance ended in cheers and joy like the woman said she hugged and playfully chased the children. She finally turned to me and all the people appeared behind her in a bow.
Tumblr media
“Welcome princess Shuri to Bubastis sorry for the long wait my panther,” The woman said her voice a bit deep, mature, and smoothed like caramel and honey. Her eyes were a galaxy purple sparkling in excitement.
“You are really real, this is really real.” I breathed out taking everything once again.
“Yes, Princess Shuri and thank you for being patient with me and my people. They haven’t seen anyone in the outside world before and begged me to let them entertain you a bit before I sought you out.” She apologized with a sheepish smile.
“I-It’s okay I enjoyed their company” I stuttered standing up with an incline of my head in thanks.
“Ready?” She asked placing her palms out in time for our ritual. I nodded and placed my own a bit hesitantly in hers. The tattoo on my arm tingled and glowed a similar one appeared on her arm.
My mind was engulfed in magic as an image of an infinity sign and ankh formed and sealed together an even deeper mind link forming between us.
“I am you and you are me,” She said in finality. It was finally official.
The oasis immediately started to change time went faster and the door appeared opening revealing the tomb and the sleeping form of Bast’s body holding an ankh and sistrum.
The bast with me let go of my hands and went over to her people and did the signature wakandan greeting.
From what I now observe and found to be how the Egyptians buried their dead. They returned it with a few tears. A sign that her leave from this world a big affect on them.
“I love you my cubs” she said in Coptic love and care in her tone.
After the tearful goodbye with a couple hugs from the children she went I’ve to her body.
“My people want to say goodbye to you princess you’ve made a great first impression” she threw over her shoulders as she past me, climbing into her body.
I turned to the city people who were greatly cherished by her. To see them waiting to address me and once again bowed in farewell.
The crowd got up from their second bow with a smile, some calling out goodbyes, and others mostly waving to me and giving the wakandan greeting in respect to me.
They all slowly started to disappear with sand and wind. The shadows of cats run away into the changing scenery. One of the kids who played with me named Ife called out.
“Please come visit again princess” her smiling form whisked away with the wind and a tiny kitty running to follow the others.
I went through the portal door the warmth of the oasis leaving me. Now that I’m back in the tombs I am faced with a graveyard with gold statures in my wake.
“They were…”
“Dead”
I turned to see her now awake the ankh and sistrum tattooed to her arm along with our matching mark. She looked almost human.
Her eyes and tattooed face were an indignation of her otherworldly powers.

Tumblr media
“Yeah, they were my first-ever followers since my creation they have allows held a special spot in my heart. After their death thousands of years ago they used to care and love for me living. I wanted to return the favor. Creating this part of the duat for them to spend eternity”
she continued coming out of her crypt.
The goddess brushed sand and dust out of her hair and body accepting my hand up.
I sighed resigned that I would be returning back to Wakanda and in turn seeing Namor once again.
We got out of the tomb to my aircraft an air of silence mutually settled between us in a break from all the magic and supernatural events. I really needed ten bottles of palm wine now that my fate has been set in stone.
“Griot set the air craft course for home” I ordered.
“Setting course for wakanda princess”

No matter how much research I did about Iceland when I first got here, nothing could prepare me for what I see there. These few pictures are just a mere glimpse of the things that stuck with me the most.
Row 1: Yes. I went to Iceland, and I ordered an icecream; but trust me, this one was so worth it. It's called Bragðarefur Icecream, and I'm already starting to miss it, from a lovely place called Skubb. If you still have time to go there, get on it. You won't regret it. The Northern Lights. Everything they say they would be. A true wonder of nature, made even better with hot chocolate, made by yours truly, and the fine company of a good friend, Archer, a.k.a. Grumpy Gills Clarington. A unforgettable night. I have never tried smoked lamb in my life, or how they call it here, Hangikjöt. Delicious. I went as far as to convincing the chef to tell me more about it.
Row 2: The thermal waters lagoon, and coffee at the Cafe Babalu, with my dear friend Noah. We truly had a blast that day. The skincare obssessive in me went on and on, explaing how those waters were good for the body, detoxing all the bad things and impurities, including also a mud facial, for which he wasn't so suer at first, but I managed to convince him. I also bought a brand new Icelandin knit sweater, which I can't wait to make the most of when the cool weather returns back home.
Row 3: During the days we didn't have any excursions planned, I dedicated to explore the city, a couple of times by myself, and one other time with Charlie, who graciously accepted to keep me company. During one of those trips, I discovered my own paradise on Earth. A lovely shop which had only organic skincare products. Nirvana achieved. After a lot of thinking and debating with the sale lady, I chose the brand Soley, also after making sure they made deliveries to the States. Obviously, a number of new coats and scarves were bought, and the stroll ended with a nice early evening shot of the Hallgrimskirkja church. I'm not a religious person, but I can appreciate a wonderfullly made architecture.

How to Find a Home for Sale: A Step-by-Step Guide
Buying a home is a significant milestone in many people's lives. Whether you're a first-time homebuyer or looking to make a move, finding the right home for sale can be an exciting but sometimes challenging process. To help you navigate this journey, we've put together a step-by-step guide on how to find a home for sale that suits your needs and preferences.
1. Determine Your Budget
Before you start searching for homes, it's essential to establish a clear budget. Consider factors such as your down payment, monthly mortgage payments, property taxes, insurance, and maintenance costs. Knowing your budget will help you narrow down your options and prevent you from falling in love with a home that's outside your financial reach.
2. Get Pre-Approved for a Mortgage
Getting pre-approved for a mortgage is a critical step in the home-buying process. It not only gives you a clear idea of how much you can borrow but also makes you a more attractive buyer to sellers. Contact lenders and provide the necessary financial documents to begin the pre-approval process.
3. Define Your Preferences
Make a list of your preferences for your future home. Consider the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, location, commute times, school districts, and any specific features you desire (e.g., a backyard, a garage, or a particular architectural style). This will help you refine your search criteria.
4. Use Online Real Estate Platforms
Online real estate platforms like Zillow, Realtor.com, Redfin, and local MLS websites are valuable tools for finding homes for sale. You can search for properties based on your criteria, view photos, read descriptions, and save your favorite listings.
5. Work with a Real Estate Agent
Real estate agents have access to the latest listings and can provide guidance throughout the buying process. They can also help you schedule viewings, negotiate offers, and handle the paperwork. Find an experienced local agent to assist you in your search.
6. Attend Open Houses
Open houses are a great way to get a feel for a property and the neighborhood. Make a list of the open houses in your target areas and attend as many as possible. Don't hesitate to ask questions and take notes.
7. Research Neighborhoods
Do thorough research on the neighborhoods you're interested in. Consider factors like safety, schools, amenities, and future development plans. Online tools, local government websites, and community forums can provide valuable insights.
8. Consider Off-Market Listings
Not all homes for sale are listed on public websites. Some sellers prefer a more discreet approach. Your real estate agent may have access to off-market listings, which can give you a competitive advantage in a tight housing market.
9. Evaluate the Property
When you find a home that piques your interest, inspect it thoroughly. Look for any signs of damage or needed repairs. Consider hiring a professional home inspector to provide a comprehensive assessment.
10. Make an Offer
Once you've found the perfect home, work with your real estate agent to prepare and submit an offer. Be prepared to negotiate with
