got a weird question for you, not really about Spanish itself.
I came across a post talking about citizen rights that apply when interacting with the police in the United States (https://www.tumblr.com/silvergrovezelda/761993895199522816/rat-detector-fymo-blogs-fuckingradfems?source=share hopefully the link works). I'm sure the law is different in, say, Mexico and other Spanish speaking countries.
Do you happen to have any knowledge on similar rights that apply when speaking to the police in Mexico?
Cheers & sorry if this question is out of scope!
Yes, most countries have some version of these types of laws. In the US what you're talking about tends to be referred to as "Miranda rights" or things under the 4th Amendment about Search and Seizure laws regarding warrants etc
Spanish-speaking countries (and most countries worldwide) have some similar version to this that makes some searches illegal or disqualifying, or the right to remain silent. It tends to be written about in the penal code or ley de enjuiciamiento criminal or it comes up with detención ilegal "illegal detention" which is holding someone against their will (though that's usually like if you kidnap someone, but I think it's still understood as "unlawful imprisonment" for police too)
Each country varies, and the police force varies, but the laws and the Constitutions of different countries usually protect against this; and many countries in Latin America used the American Constitution and Declaration of Independence as guides when they were gaining independence from Spain
It's definitely out of my area of expertise, but a lot of the rules still apply
There might be corruption and police brutality and illegal searches etc just like everywhere else, but on paper there are protections
It's usually in their penal code or in the Constitution itself

Introduction 👋
I'm realizing that I never actually made a formal introduction to pin, so now's as good a time as any to finally do it.
I'm Eván (Evan is also fine) and use he/él/ele pronouns exclusively. Please do not use they/them pronouns for me. I grew up in the US, split between Hawaiʻi and Oregon, and am currently living in Ontario, Canada, while completing a B.A. in Spanish (Lang and Lit) and Caribbean Studies. I'm currently in my 4th of 5 years and plan on applying to Master's programs in LATAM or Caribbean Studies after completing my undergrad. My main focus for research is Spanglish usage in Boricua communities on the mainland and, more generally, English-Spanish code-switching.
Obviously I speak Spanish since I'm a Spanish major, and have been learning it since I was around 7 years old, but I don't practice as much as I'd like so I make a lot of mistakes 😅 I've taken 2 years of Portuguese at my university, mainly focusing on PT-PT, but wasn't able to continue this school year because of scheduling problems. Since I'm from Hawaiʻi, I've been trying to study Hawaiian independently when I'm not too busy with school. I'm planning on starting Catalan (at uni) and Ladino/Judeo-Spanish (independent study) in 2024 as well!
The main resource I've been using for studying Hawaiian is the Ka Lei Haʻaheo: Beginning Hawaiian textbook by Alberta Pualani Hopkins.

Aurora dragons whom are representatives upon the earth have a natural ability through their lightbody to repair the human body form, and apply aurora rainbow coded organic creator platonic solid repairs to the planetary body and to human lightbody. This healing ability comes natural to them and is not learned by earthly means. Those who awaken their inner dragon essence will apply god's love through neutrality to harmonise stabilise and repair without force or ego. These beings are a part of the ancient builder and creator races of the time matrix in which they help to restore god's plan and order to the earth. Many fallen and reversed dragon parts are on the earth and have bound dragon DNA, including clones and AI versions of the creator code.
As a consciousness journey to recover and build the organic DNA happens, one can span multiple dimensions at once and see the overall picture outwith the lower new age fields of 4D astral mirrors and 5D reversal and false christed light.
A Dragon being can portal jump and span multiple dimensions simultaneously, which means accessing multiple rounds of time at once. This allows them to span multiple nested creational bodies of the christos at once, to carry out tasks such as planetary gridworking or restoration of the hologram.
(Source)
In 2019, the King Dragons from Andromeda started to show up in service to the guardian christos families of which King Dragon Shields were available to install into the earth body which support the re-encryption of the elements, into the new aurora elementals through the hierogamic instruction sets of the rainbow body and dark matter template.
&
In 2020 The Dragon lineages restored the aeonic pairing of the twinned christos child to the earth via birthing process to support the planetary body realign to the template of the Krysthallah. The ley lines of the earth receive their upgraded dragon consciousness energies through the returning dragon lineages supporting the influx of the Dragon restorations.

𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐒
☆ 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐎𝐍𝐄 - 𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐑𝐈𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐀𝐃/𝐎𝐋𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐒
- it’s time to get rid of all those negative thoughts about yourself your life, we’re starting off a journey with clean thoughts and positive thoughts. negative thoughts get you nowhere with the law if you think that you can manifest something in seconds or you can’t manifest something like your db or df it’s a total lie you can manifest literally anything at any time no matter what, if anyone tells you that the law is fake it’s not fake at all that’s a limiting belief it’s called a limiting belief because you are doubting and limiting yourself from discovering your true power. there aren’t any fails with the law at all it’s impossible, you create your entire reality you putting in negative thoughts is going to come around and backfire because what you put in comes out if you think of that my life sucks, im so depressed or anxious, nothing works for me that’s going to form and harden in your reality!
think of manifesting as a boomerang what you throw out example limiting beliefs, bad thoughts, self doubt and insecurity will come back to you, if you throw something out you get the results back from all the negativity so if you throw positive things out like working on your self concept looking after yourself thinking good thoughts that’s what your reality becomes you can either make it amazing for yourself or very difficult
☆ 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝟐 - 𝐅𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐂𝐇
- now that we got rid of all the negativity we need to switch the flip our mindset stop thinking you can’t and start thinking you can. you can manifest anything no matter what. to get rid of negative thoughts we work on self concept, this post contains all you need to know about self concept and my favorite affirmations that helped me go from a negative mindset to a positive mindset
☆ 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝟑 - 𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐋𝐄𝐃𝐆𝐄
- through the two stages we left the negativity behind and we started working on ourselves and our own self concept now we’re aware of our worth and our power we should apply all of that! if you think that you can’t be a model and be a billionaire and have a famous rich significant other you can, start applying this to your daily life and you’ll improve significantly, with changing your thoughts you can change your life, be the person you’ve always wanted to be, be that famous influencer be that actress be the person that makes everyone turn their heads when they walk in a room
you don't need methods, you can manifest at any time the sky is the limit, please don't make manifesting hard for yourself, try not to overcomplicate it for yourself, stop bringing yourself down and believe in yourself you can manifest waking up in a mansion in italy with billions in your bank account, by commanding your subconscious , visualizing or even just affirming, you make the rules and you are in control (from my law of assumption guide)
im gonna say it again manifesting is like a sims game there are so many different cheat codes think of the law like your cheat codes to life. you wanna change your appearance = create a sim, you want money = motherlode!
☆ 𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐑𝐎
that’s pretty much the post :), there’s nothing else i have to say but believe in yourself and most importantly your power, you’re super powerful no matter what. thinking positive and being aware that you have exactly what you want gets you what you want, if you want that job or you wanna get into that school or whatever you can do it, don’t doubt your abilities to manifest there’s no room for failure when it comes to law of assumption. don’t dwell in your old beliefs habits it’s really not worth it!
love you lots, hope this helped lei 𑁍

23 May, 1992
Today in Italy is the anniversary of the death of the magistrate Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca, also a magistrate, and three police officers and their bodyguards: Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro.
They lost their lives in a mafia attack called "Strage di Capaci" (the Capaci bombing), which took place on the A29 motorway at 17:57 in 1992.
I'm not writing this post to teach history or even for a sudden poetic surge of melancholy. I'm writing because I see more and more often on socials like this one an attitude of romanticization of the mafia, often also by cosplayers and people that I esteem so much and that I find inspiring and that I don't want in any way to offend. Surely these people create their content knowing what they are talking about but maybe some of their followers base their knowledge on these AU or on comics read or other conjectures. So I want to talk to these people who maybe think that mafias are not a totally negative thing.
I understand that abroad there may have remained an image of the mafia like Al Capone or similar... of men of other times, criminals of course, but with values like, for example, the untouchability of women and children. Perhaps (I am not an expert on the subject, so it may be possible) in the past organized crime had a sort of ethical code; but, if it ever existed, it hasn't existed for a very long time. Because the mafia, the real one, the one that still terrorizes countries in the south but also in the north of Italy, kills men, women and even children indiscriminately.
It kills men who fight for the freedom of the state and for legality, like the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
It kills boys like Giuseppe (Peppino) Impastato, a young journalist and activist in his early thirties who rebelled against Cosa Nostra, because he believed that the terrified Sicilian people could be freed from this scourge.
It kills women like Graziella Campagna and Emanuela Loi. The first "guilty" of having collaborated with the justice system for the arrest of a fugitive mafia man, discovering his identity by chance while doing her job as a laundress; the second one, instead, was one of the first women policeman of the bodyguard service, entrusted to the protection of Borsellino and, like him, blown up outside a building in the Strage di Via D'Amelio (Via D'Amelio bombing).
It kills kids like Giuseppe Di Matteo, kidnapped at the age of 12, held hostage for more than a year, then killed and dissolved in acid just because he was the son of a repentant boss.
It kills children like Mariangela or Noemi who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It kills people on the street just because he looks like a member of an enemy clan and therefore "uups, wrong person".
The mafia here in Italy is serious. Despite the fact that some young people answer "it's not here in my house, so I don't care" it's a disease that seems incurable, worse than Covid19.
It's not only about southern Italy as many people think, the small town where I live is one of the (minor) centers of the mafia in the north of the peninsula, just 10 years ago there were arrests and "gambizzazioni" (shooting another person in the legs as a warning or a gesture of revenge) just behind my house.
So, please, however imaginary "the Boss" may have his charm, don't make him pass for the misunderstood one, the one who in the end does good even though he bypasses the law because in this way you only spit on all the dead, as you would do if you would excuse the perpetrators of the massacres in schools or other kinds of attacks.
With this I'm not saying that in Italy we have to pay attention to every dark alley or similar (I mean, in those cases you have to pay attention wherever you are, but not because of the mafias). Ours is a wonderful country with a unique history and culture that can't be found anywhere else, as well as all the cultures of this world; so, once this mess with Covid19 is over, come and take a tour and enjoy the beautiful cities like Naples, Rome, Turin, Florence and Bologna or see the wonders of our Alps or beaches.
As a fangirl and a cosplayer I love good AU's and the creation of original and eye-catching OC's... but the important thing is to be able to distinguish fantasy from reality.
I know that not many people will have read all this post and many will have found it heavy and boring but I invite you to do some research, even just type on google "Strage di Via D'Amelio" and "Strage di Capaci" which are the most sadly famous. Look at the photos. Look how they destroyed roads to hit a single man, in both cases. Then you can go back to cosplaying and writing and reading fanfiction, you have every right but at least you will do it with more awareness.
P.s: This applies to all mafias, both Italian and foreign.
P.p.s: Since English is not my native language and I have never studied it so much, I hope I haven't made too many mistakes and that the sense of the post is still clear.
///
Ammazzano donne come Graziella Campagna e Emanuela Loi.

Applicability Of Legal Entity Identifier Or LEI Code
The Legal Entity Identifier (“LEI”) code has been conceived as a key measure to improve the quality and accuracy of financial data systems for better risk management post the Global Financial Crisis. The LEI code is a 20-character unique identity code assigned to entities who are parties to financial transactions. In respect of the applicability of LEI, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued various notifications from time to time to cover entities that will have to apply for LEI code.
Since most of you will have questions regarding the applicability and procedure for registration for LEI code, we thought it will be appropriate to put them down in FAQ format.
1. What is LEI Code?
LEI Code is a 20-character unique identity code assigned to entities who are parties to financial transactions. Globally, it helps in labelling an entity with an Identity number that has entered into financing transactions and is registered with multiple agencies having varied registration numbers.
2. How does LEI code work?
LEI code is designed to enable the identification and linking of parties to financial transactions in order to manage counterparty risk. The goal is to improve the measuring and monitoring of systemic risk and support more cost-effective compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.

The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations - How to Crack the Code
Now that Season Three of A Series of Unfortunate Events has aired, I feel it’s about time to finally tell y’all the Code from The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations- for those of you who can’t get the book, haven’t read it yet, can’t figure out the code, or who just don’t wanna spend time finding it out yourselves.
On page 188 of The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations, the key to cracking a code sprinkled throughout the book is provided:
WARNING → THERE IS A SECRET MESSAGE IN THIS BOOK
You may have noticed a cross-referencing technique that appears throughout these pages, looking as such: (See: Notorious Researchers, pg. 30). This device is a helpful way to direct readers to relevant information that can be found elsewhere in a text.
It is also a handy way to send a secret message.
Every librarian knows that books contain secrets, and hiding a secret message in the pages of a book is a frequent VFD tactic. Volunteers who cleverly cross-reference will discover the message, while their enemies, who rarely finish a book, remain unaware.
If you have read this far, you may be wondering how to discover this message yourself. First read the book carefully, making note of any parentheticals shaded an unusual hue. This is no printer error; it is a key informing you that part of the message can be found on the suggested page. Follow the references and locate the letters colored a corresponding hue. These letters are scrambled, not unlike an anagram. Once you have unscrambled the word, write it on the color-coded line of this telegram. Completing the telegram will reveal the answer to a question that has stumped philosophers, police inspectors, and even Lemony Snicket:
What comes after the end of The End?
Next to this description is a photo of a telegram, which is fourteen words long:
___ ____ __ _______
____ ___ __ _____
____ ____ _____
__ _____ _____
And, indeed, each word is underlined in a different color.
Now... onto cracking the code.
As referenced, there are occasional cross-references in the text. And sometimes, the See: is in the color you need to look for.
If you follow each See to its corresponding page, you’ll find letters scattered across the text that are in the color you need to find. These letters make up each word.
Word-by-word, let’s see what we can find:
The first word, in dark purple, is on page 133: The Reptile Room. To be honest, this is the hardest word to find: the dark color is very close to the color of the actual text. There are three letters here, in the following sentences:
You always want to do something new, but at the same time, I wanted to see if there were clues I could integrate into the design.
This flips it so the priority is the reptiles, and his own living space is sort of diminutive.
And in “The Reptile Room,” [Monty]’s delighted to share his world with these kids.
otw
The second word is on page 99: Toupees for Toddles, in an orange-ish color. There are four letters, which can be found in the following sentences:
“Well, we can’t put a wig on a baby.”
It’s one of the oddest things I’ve ever done in my career, applying a little wig on a baby.
When we started the second season, Presley had grown her hair long enough that we could actually create the ponytail with here own hair, which was a relief.
ests
The third word, in a hot pink, is on page 130: Mr Poe’s Office. There are only two letters, which can be found in the following sentences:
It can be goofy, but it’s never goofy-stupid.
He’s the guy that’s literally standing between Olaf and the Baudelaire fortune.
of
The fourth word, on page 110: How to Dress for a Masked Ball, in a gray-blue color, can be found in the following sentences, with seven letters:
The flashback that opens “The Carnivorous Carnival” is set at a Venetian-style masked ball, where masks conceal a number of familiar faces. Cynthia Summers designed each mask with the character in mind, including Dr Orwell’s “eyeglasses,” a Medusa-inspired snake mask for Uncle Monty, and theatrical comedy/tragedy masks for the Snicket Brothers. (Jacques wears the comedy mask, while Lemony, of course, is tragedy.) The ball also marks the first on-screen appearance of the mysterious Beatrice, described in the script as “a beautiful woman dressed as a dragonfly.”
eidnrsf
The fifth word, four letters long, is on page 45: Olivia Caliban/Madame Lulu, is in gray:
A dangling thread from Season One was a certain book on secret organizations discovered by Justice Strauss - a book whose title will be familiar to anyone reading this.
Still, they liked the idea of a character finding The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations and having the book change your life, as it will no doubt change yours.
While the book’s version of Olivia is a veteran agent of dubious morality, the show reinvents her as a noble school librarian struggling against institutional corruption.
There, disguised as Madame Lulu, she fulfills her mission of passing the book to the Baudelaires - and sacrifices herself at the lion pit to save their lives.
jtsu
The sixth word, colored light orange, is on page 109: How to Dress for a Career in Food Service. The three letters can be found here:
Author Daniel Handler explains that the VFD agents we meed in the show are the types of people whom children notice by adults overlook.
You’re going to notice things that are invisible to the adults talking over your head.
Take a good look at the restaurant’s terrifying logo.
uto
On page 141: The Miserable Mill is the seventh word, in two red letters:
“The Wide Window” left us with no more stage space, so it forced us to shoot the mill at a real location, an old dock building which we then tried to make look like a stage.
Klaus comes back from the eye doctor, but he isn’t quite himself.
fo
The eighth word is on page 97: The Real Sugar Bowl. There are five light purple letters:
According to Esme, it was stolen from her by Beatrice, and according to Olivia, it may have been the reason for the VFD schism. It’s not the first sugar bowl to play a vital role in a work of classic literature (interested parties may seek out We Have Always Lived in The Castle at their local library), but Daniel Handler muses on another possible inspiration: “There a whole sugar scene in the movie Midnight (See: Snicket, Jacques, pg 44) that must have seeped into me when I was a child. Somehow I think that was one of the sugar bowls of literature that ended up sneaking in.”
The existence of four identical sugar bowl [props] may be of interest to Esme Squalor, or at least her actress, Lucy Punch, who requested to keep one when the series wrapped. “My character was so desperate for it,” says Punch. “It seemed appropriate.”
eahrc
The ninth word, in blue, is on page 172: The Carnivorous Carnival. There are four letters:
There’s literally no program you can watch that’s any wierce.
The aesthetic of carnivals and circuses is naturally creepy and absurd to begin with. And then you add the overlay of our material, where everything is filtered through the Baudelaires, so the sets are designed to be seen as if you’re a vulnerable child glimpsing this horrible world and trying to maintain hope.
Count Olaf arrives at Caligari Carnival, where he hopes the fortune-teller can help him.
wlli
The tenth word is on page 89: The Many Faces of Barry Sonnenfeld. There are four green letters:
and in “The Vile Village,” he’s the fire chief posing with his Dalmatian int he firehouse-turned-saloon.
A common ancestor to our series’ interconnected families?
Barry birthday is April Fool’s Day, and for his birthday, I decided to knock off a painting with him in it.
We’re shooting the Hotel Denouement right now, and the whole hotel isi based on the Dewey Decimal System, and each floor is a different subject.
eetm
On page 64-65: The Sinister Songs, you can find five magenta letters for the eleventh word:
“I was a huge fan of the books in my twenties, and I was also a huge fan of Barry Sonnenfeld, so to see those two come together and actually be a part of it was unreal.”
Count Olaf introduces himself to the Baudelaires with this song and dance - ignoring the fact he’s already met them. Handlers says, “Singing is perfect for Count Olaf because he imagines himself so wonderful.”
All of the dance numbers were choreographed by Paul Becker, who pulled double duty in the first half of “The Carnivorous Carnival”.
She’s had quite an exciting / Time on the road
agina
On page 24: Violet the Inventor, there are two gray letters for the twelfth word:
But now those inventions, like the Baudelaire mansion itself, are gone.
She promised her parents she would always look after them, and while Count Olaf’s schemes have put that promise to the test, Violet’s managed to stand strong in even the most unfortunate situation.
on
Pages 116-117: Deciphering Code: Using the Dials of the Spyglass, has five purple letters for the thirteenth word:
As a volunteer, you already know why and when the spyglass was created (See: Motion Picture, Pg 10) but we will briefly recap its history here.
A permanent mark has its advantages, since even the most absent-minded member rarely leave the house without their ankle (See: Peg Leg, pg 86), but it has its drawbacks too, particularly if the organization undergoes a schism, so that the same symbol that once stood for comradery and literacy suddenly represents treachery and pyromania now that it is inscribed on the ankles of your enemies.
But just as a movie might be more than a movie, a spyglass can be more than a spyglass.
Critics called these films terrible, which was the point: Sebald wanted to ensure that no one would want to see them besides other volunteers, who would be more interested in their secret messages than their artistic value.
The cinema’s projectionist assigns the film a production code made up of a unique combination of numbers and symbols.
riynb
The fourteenth and final word can be found on page 32: Who is Lemony Snicket? There are five pale green letters:
He is currently investigating the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, though his reason for doing so is unknown, as are his whereabouts.
Mr. Snicket can be identified by his dry wit, his tailored suits, and his ankle tattoo, as well as his tendency to launch into wordy monologues containing Very Frequent Definitions.
But when developing the series for Netflix, Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler independently felt that their Snicket should be seen as well as heard.
And they both independently thought of Patrick Warburton, a frequent Sonnenfeld collaborator whom Handler had loved in a little-seen film called The Woman Chaser. Volunteers who track it down will note that it features Warburton speaking to the camera in a suit and a deadpan style that one might call Serlinig-esque - or Snicket-esque.
haebc
The Code
So now we have all the words:
otw ests of eidnrsf
jtsu uto fo eahrc
wlli eemt agina
on riynb haebc
Which do not take a long time to unscramble...
What comes after the end of The End?
Well, it turns out... the code is a couplet...
Two sets of friends, just out of reach
Will meet again on Briny Beach.

Share Festival 2020: call for entries
The XV edition of Share Festival, the Italian exhibition of contemporary tech art and science, lead by the Artistic Director Bruce Sterling, announces the opening of the call. The theme of this edition of Share Prize is:
RIOTS HERE WE ARE
An atmosphere of blissful calm prevails over Share Festival, in the fifteenth consecutive year of our technology-art fair. The cruel word “Crisis” has become old-fashioned here in Italy, a nation whose government is the most stable of all the G-7 major powers.
Our city has recently signed a ten-point Manifesto of Non-Hostile Communications, which recommends wise principles of civilized discourse online (and is highly suited for public announcements like this one). The City of Turin has recently celebrated its first “Festival of Technology,” where our erudite populace responded with polite appreciation to the marvels of science. This huge, crowd-pleasing tech festival appeared back-to-back with Turin’s vast, legendary “Artissima” art fair, so that our city can now justly boast of its learned patronage of every form of modern art, and modern research, too!
Here at Share Festival of Piemonte, the radical, cutting-edge art forms that we have long championed: tactical media, net.art, device art, code art, interactive installations and augmented experiences — are being legitimized, refined and civilized. All of our avant-garde artistic eccentricities are fast becoming twenty-first century mainstream lifestyles. Our Share Festival jury for the year 2020 is the wisest and best-briefed that we have ever assembled, for it includes the doyenne of the Piedmontese art scene, the globally-famed art collector and cultural activist, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. She is ShareFestival’s favorite Knight of Arts and Letters. We are really looking forward to a close discussion of your artistic entries this year. Frankly, our festival has never seen such a halcyon situation. We are the picture of smart-urban civility.
La vita é bella!
*******************************************
However… here, below the dividing-line…. what about all those other cities, here at the turn of the decade? Crowds waves angry banner, subways are flaming, airports are besieged, lasers flare in the tear-gas clouds under the drones — urban mayhem smolders over every horizon! Leaderless crowds cry out their need to take back a control that seems entirely illusory; polarized parliaments howl abuse and demand impeachments, blockades and barricades abound to stop overcrowded caravans where all the wheels have fallen off…. Tech unicorns fall flaming in disgrace, and even the ultra-rich weep and tremble in public venues; social lynch-mobs abound, while enlightened scientists flee the trolls; upheavals are met with ominous silence as the Internet’s plug is pulled over vast, stricken provinces. The tenuous fabric of civilization is shredded as law enforcement agents randomly batter the passers-by, and frenzied outbursts of reckless passion and raw discontent shatter the one-way mirror of the status quo. Surveillance is redoubled as the surveilled can’t be bothered to behave; to “befriend” is an act of covert emnity, while to “like” is passe’. A riot is not a revolution or a reform, it’s a burst of frenzy that concludes in melancholy astonishment. And yet: here we are. Such is the social condition. It could be anywhere, it could be anybody.
What can we make of this? What’s to become of us?
Bruce Sterling, Share Festival Art Director Jasmina Tesanovic, Share Prize Curator
The works nominated for the prize must comply with the theme. An International Jury will select 6 candidates for the award, who will be invited to take part in the exhibition, which will take place in Turin in May 2020. By the end of February 2020 the finalists will be announced.

RIOTS HERE WE ARE

&&. word has it ( christian bennet ) was just spotted around the city. ( he ) is a ( 34 ) year old affiliated with ( the nypd ). it’s been said that ( he ) resembles ( ben barnes ). ( he ) has been said to be ( loyal & hard-working ) but also quite ( uncertain & introverted ). ( he ) is currently serving as ( a detective for the organized crimes unit ).
— ❝ it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.❞
( hi there, kiwi here! this is the official intro for christian bennet, a detective for the nypd working in the organized crimes unit. my quintessential “good guy”, i’m really excited to see where this group takes christian. please let me know if you’d like to plot; i’m available through both the group’s discord and tumblr ims. ♡ )
name: christian james bennet
birthplace: savannah, georgia
birthday: june 11th | thirty-four | gemini
scent: vanilla and caramel
appearance: 6′3″; tall, broad, all-around large. christian is almost comically the exact opposite as far as build and form goes from his younger sister, emmaline. christian could be described as the very definition of a gentle giant; though he is strong, muscular, and toned from years of training to be a detective, he’s genteel and caring with everyone he meets. christian has a mop of dark brown hair, eyes so dark they’re nearly black, and prefers to keep a full beard (nice and groomed, of course!) at all times.
christian tends to wear button downs, slacks, and suits at work; outside of work, though, he tends to be much more laid-back. sweaters, v-neck shirts, jeans, and jackets are his go to. he’s humble to the core, primarily from the way his parents taught him to cherish and appreciate the little things in life.
personality: loyal, hard-working, kind, introverted, uncertain, determined, ambitious, giving.
biography: christian bennet was born to two lovely, humble parents in savannah, georgia; farmers who sold their produce to local grocers and at stands in farmer’s markets. christian spent most of his childhood wrapped in the embrace of these two loving, gentle-hearted southerners; his father was intelligent and capable, his mother strong and productive, but neither ever saw the need to live beyond their means; rather, they were content to sit and use his abilities to protect and provide for their loved ones. as he grew up, Christian’s mother told him that no gift in the world was greater than kindness; that he ought to treat others with warmth, compassionate, and kindness--as if they were members of his own family. eventually, the two had a second child, a young, doe-eyed girl named emmaline…and christian loved her with the entirety of his heart.
christian’s family was warm, welcoming, and wholesome; he grew up, graduated high school, and was planning to attend university to work towards a degree in criminal justice and forensics. however, when christian was nearing nineteen years old and ready to fully immerse himself into his studies, his world shifted and shattered beneath him. his parents had gone out on a date one evening, leaving his younger sister in the care of a sitter; christian received a phone call hours later that his mother and father had been in a terrible accident, and both were declared dead at the scene. suddenly, christian’s wholesome family had broken and cracked apart, leaving him and his baby sister, still in her toddler years at this point, orphaned and alone. christian abandoned pursuing university full-time and instead worked hard through two jobs, adopting emmaline into his care and raising both of them on the small inheritance their parents had left behind for them. he worked part-time as a server as he put himself through the police academy, eventually becoming a rookie cop. still, he worked tirelessly to provide for his sister, making sure she had the love, support, and financial security any parent would have been able to provide for her.
eventually, christian was able to work his way up the ranks, attending night school to receive the diploma he had originally sought after, and he was informed by a friend--a retired cop who had moved to new york to be with his own ailing father--about an opportunity to join the organized crime bureau in new york city, providing he had the experience and records to prove he was worthy. so, by the time christian was twenty-seven, he had applied and been accepted as a fledgling detective in the nypd, and he and emmaline packed their belongings and moved to the great, wide city of new york to start a new life together.
christian soon became consumed by and dedicated to his job. with a rigid sense of morals and ethics, christian is determined to help reduce crime in new york and dismantle the threat that organized crime leaves for civilians.
eventually, christian had a fateful encounter with a young investigative journalist who was busy poking around in business related to a homicide christian was investigating. he ended up saving her from getting involved in the crossfire, and despite the fact that becoming involved with a member of the media was strictly against the code of conduct, christian ended up falling head-over-heels in love with lilianna shu lei. the two became inseparable; christian loved her for her strength and character, for the way she treated his younger sister (whom christian definitively thought of as his daughter at this point), and for the fierce and devoted way in which she tended to all things she loved and cared for in life. she eventually moved into the brooklyn flat he and emmaline shared, becoming an integral part of his life. christian had rebuilt the perfect little family for himself, he thought; though he missed his parents every single day, he had a woman he loved and a family in his younger sister.
but then one day, everything changed. and christian’s life cracked apart once more.
emmaline had been acting strangely; more distant than he remembered her ever being. and then one day, there was a report--there had been a fire, and emmaline had been involved in it. she was declared dead at the scene, and christian could barely hear the words of condolence and sorrow people offered him through his own grief. he completely shut down, rejecting anything and everything around him. no one believed him, but christian was determined that his sister had not been killed; her body had never been found--no body easily identified had ever been found--and christian was skeptical. he grieved the way a parent would for their child, but he also became consumed with a conspiracy that his sister was alive somewhere, taken by one of the mafias as punishment for him investigating them.
christian began to behave more recklessly than he ever did before; he started investigating mafia hangouts and dens off-duty. he knew that he was becoming obsessed with the world of organized crime, perhaps more than he had ever been professionally, but his grief and denial had completely taken over his life. he felt guilty for his grief; he blamed himself for the way he had pulled away from everyone in his life--including lilianna--and felt guilty for his sister’s disappearance to begin with. christian did not think he was worthy of his badge or the honor of being emmaline’s guardian or even lilianna’s lover. he told lilianna that he didn’t think he was equipped to be in a relationship, despite the way it broke his heart, and felt grief overwhelm him like a cloud.
but he was lost, he was alone, and the last person he wanted to hurt by being a failure was the one woman he loved more than anything in the world.
it’s been a few months since emmaline “died”, and christian still believes (much to the dismay of his partners at the nypd, his friends, and even lilianna) that his sister is out there, alive somewhere. waiting for him, perhaps. he and lilianna remain best friends, though she no longer lives with him. he misses her every single day and wishes he could tell her he still loves her. but after the way he failed emmaline and then, consequently, failed lilianna emotionally, christian doesn’t think he’s quite good enough for anyone.
