ESSENTIAL MOM MOVEMENT STRENGTH 💪 CIRCUIT: Exercise 8️⃣ . 🤰Restoring your core after having babies! . 💁🏻‍♀️Think about it this way, the more you stretch/load the fascia, the more resilience you build! . This loading of the abdominal wall should occur in all three planes of motion to build a robust core. . ☝🏼Initially this exercise is performed with a small lunge and breath only. . 🧐Why? Because we don’t have the integrity in the very early postpartum period. . Slowly and progressively build your lunge, with the breath, add in an arm reach tall to the sky and finally add load. . The @powerplateusa Is an amazing tool that adds another load from the ground up in all three planes of motion. . Every cell in my body is being nourished by this whole body exercise from my @vivobarefoot Feet to my fingertips! . ESSENTIAL MOM MOVEMENT SERIES: Exercise 1️⃣ . 🙋🏻‍♀️A staggered stance ground to standing!! Yes please!! . 🤗Part of my reintegration process after delivering my second set of twins and recovery from a giant 10 finger diastasis was to improve the motion in both my thoracic spine and hips!! . ❤️This fun pattern does both!! Walk out but don’t let one hand cross in front of the other. It’s like a hand “skuffle” (for all of my fellow fellows of #appliedfunctionalscience )! . 🤚 The hand position puts the upper body into a slight lateral flexion and rotation toward the back hand plus the load of gravity on the core! . 💥Enjoy 6-8 walkouts of this fun movement!! ESSENTIAL MOM MOVEMENT SERIES: Exercise 4️⃣ . Here I am looking to load my core through a matrix! Using the @triforcefit allows me to use a variety of hand positions and position the load to create a unique reaction! . The staggered foot position really upregulates the pelvic floor and helps reinforce decoupling of the hips! Yay for a better walk with my dog Prancer that evening. . If the load is on the side and top the unloaded side is going to work harder to decelerate the load in lateral flexion! Isn’t that cool! . When you have a diastasis, there is no one single recipe for success. One common truth is that your core must be resilient to handle multiple positions and multiple loads! . Changing the hand position to challenge my deficits is another tweak! . The chain reaction goes all the way down to my @vivobarefoot covered feet! . A simple exercise that can go many directions!! . ESSENTIAL MOM MOVEMENT STRENGTH 💪 CIRCUIT: Exercise 3️⃣ . 🤗Pay attention to your body! ❤️Change your stimulus! . 🧐Instead of pulling up, now I am working on lowering top to bottom. Why? . 🌟Because I was getting some doming of my abdominal wall during my pull-ups. This is not ideal with a diastasis! . ❤️ The eccentric lowering portion of the pull-up does not create any doming and stimulates my deep abdominal wall via the arms. . 🤗This exercise pairs nicely with exercise 2️⃣ from yesterday which was a power movement with @viprpro ! . 🌟Don’t be afraid to mix things up to continually give your body a new and different stimulus! ESSENTIAL MOM MOVEMENT STRENGTH 💪 CIRCUIT: Exercise 6️⃣ . 🙋🏻‍♀️Who is ready to return to intensity? . 🙋🏻‍♀️How many moms out there are ready to bust out that jog stroller and get moving? . That’s awesome!! BUT, we have to earn that ability first! Remember that it takes up to a year for the healing process to complete itself after giving birth. . Take your time and nourish your body with high quality nutrition and proper, progressive movement. Then...build towards intensity. . Strong hamstrings and glutes are one component of a solid foundation for returning to intensity. . Here is a progression of the floor bridge which is a foundational exercise in your postpartum recovery program! . Here I am using one of my favorites, @reactive_training Coretex with a 6kg @viprpro . The two work together just like your core and pelvic floor! . My glutes and hamstrings must react to the movement of the ViPR as I shift from left to right at the top of the bridge. . The pelvic floor reacts subconsciously and breath is consciously performed, exhaling at the top of the bridge. . This exercise prepares me for the more dynamic exercise 7️⃣! . Exercise does not have to be complicated to be effective. . 🌟Can you see how my head is even working here as a driver? . 🌟Did you know that, facially our bladder is literally hung from our neck!? . Can you see how this simple movement can subconsciously load the pelvic floor and get your body out of the forward and down mom posture? . Here I am using a simple combo on the @powerplateusa moving through a squat to a two hand reach laterally at overhead. . The goal is to dynamically mobilize my feet and ankles along with my upper back and shoulders. . Of course my hips and core have to work together to stabilize the movement. . PROGRESSION: 1️⃣ Initial range of motion👉🏽increase range of motion 2️⃣ Unloaded controlled 👉🏽 loaded 3️⃣ Controlled tempo 👉🏽 faster tempo . Always with diaphragmatic breathing! ESSENTIAL MOM MOBILITY MOVEMENT CIRCUIT: Exercise 2️⃣ . Safely and progressively loading the core following pregnancy is an important step towards recovering optimal function for your life needs. . Here I am working with the @bosu_fitness using the instability of the surface to drive the BOSU in a side to side and front to back motion. . This movement loads my core through my shoulders and with gravity. Functionally causing my core to react not contract on demand. . Because I swim a lot...my shoulders need a little extra attention to avoid getting to tight and pulling at my rib cage which pulls at my diastasis. . 🌟PROGRESSION: 1️⃣Modified on knees with body drivers front to back hands on step👉🏽hands on ground 👉🏽staggered stance👉🏽on toes 2️⃣Modified on knees with hands on BOSU👉🏽staggered stance👉🏽on toes 3️⃣Single leg/increase speed . The important thing is to remember this is NOT step one or appropriate in all situations for diastasis. . Look for doming. If you have it...it’s too much load to manage. . 🌟Upright core training! . The recommendation to recover my diastasis after my first twin pregnancy from my maternal fetal medicine doctor was to, “get back to those crunches.” . 🤷🏻‍♀️What!!! No, no, no! . Unfortunately this is a common and dangerous recommendation. . Fortunately, I did not listen and carved my own path. . Here I am using the @3actslide to stimulate my pelvic floor from the bottom up and arm reaches from the top down. . Everything is functionally engaged here from my feet to my eyes! My core is working to help facilitate movement. I am not “telling” my pelvic floor or abdominal wall to contract...they are doing it on their own! . When I get off the slide, my core and pelvic floor keep working together all day. 🤗 .
