we talk about and make jokes about how we're gay, or trans, or bi, pan, enby, aro, ace and all of the lovely and valid identities in the queer spectrum. and if you think we do it too much and you're okay with queer people but why do we have to "make it our whole personality"? it's alright sit down i'll tell you what's up

(TLDR up front coz i know long posts are hard for some folks: we do it to affirm our identities and find love, acceptance and community because IT IS SO RARE TO FIND SAFE ENOUGH SPACES WHERE WE CAN TALK ABOUT OUR QUEERNESS.)

We're so relieved that we have even small spaces or people that we feel safe enough in and around to make those jokes and comments. We're so relieved, we want to enjoy that relief of not being hatecrimed, disowned, and all the awful things that happen to this community.

We're so intent in being proud of our identity and reaffirming it, when so many people invalidate us every day.

We're so eager to connect with other queer people, to be assured that we are not alone, we have a family, we have a community.

We want to lighten up the mood around queer discussions, to make sure it's recognised as normal and human, to make sure it's not a dark taboo topic.

We want to reassure ourselves. That we are safe, that we are accepted, that we are loved, that we are valid. And we are.

We talk about it, we make jokes about it, because for so many centuries, and even now in most places and for most people, we couldn't and can't. When we are able to, we will.

Some of us have different reasons, too, reasons I may not know about and that's great too! I'd love to hear the opinions of other queer folks. Tell me if you feel anything needs to be changed or clarified, too, I'm open to hearing you out :)

And as for things that are not jokes, if you're complaining about a queer person speaking up about their experiences and/or the discrimination they have faced then mate you need to leave, educate yourself on sensitivity and empathy, and only then return.

And to my queer siblings who say "i can't open this packet of biscuits im too gay for this": you guys are totally valid i too am too gay to open biscuit packets sometimes. Straight people who are offended by this: this is a joke. That we are allowed to make. See? it's that easy.

This blog is for aroace autistic people, but you’re absolutely welcome to follow still even if you aren’t aroace or autistic! Inspired by all the other culture-is blogs out there, some of which I will tag at the bottom.

You did said or did something I find offensive. Include a link or description of the post. We cannot respond when we have no idea what you’re talking about.

You reblogged a post that included character x under identity A, but character x is actually identity B. Let us know and we will remove or add an note to the post, but please understand that the mods are not omniscient, and unless you’d like us to limit our reblogs only to media we are personally familiar with, this kind of thing may happen from time to time. It is not intentional. The personal attacks and passive aggressive comments are unnecessary.

Is x identity valid? This blog is against identity policing.

Did x media queerbait? Queerbaiting is not a catch-all term for “I’m queer and I didn’t get what I personally wanted out of this media.” It means intentionally leading queer viewers to believe your media will have queer representation when you have no intention of actually providing it. See this post for more info (but note the examples are a couple years old).

Do you think x celebrity is queer? This blog is against public speculation about celebrities’ sexual orientations and genders. Queer celebrities are entitled to come out on their own terms, the same as anyone else.

Is it okay to headcanon x character as gay/bi/trans/ace? It’s okay to have whatever headcanon you want, as long as it isn’t incompatible with a canon queer identity. Headcanoning a commonly-headcanoned-as-gay character as bi or vice versa is not “stealing representation,” nor is headcanoning a canonically gay/bi character as ace/aro/trans in addition to their canon identity.

[ + once upon a time, Oct. 25th, 2017, one day after my birthday. yes, I made a Taishiro Fan-soundtrack using THIS particular track as inspiration, remembered a certain other favorite series of mine had a ton of cool/actually fitting-for-the-themes/plot music, realized “ HEY I MAYBE CAN ACTUALLY MAKE AN AMV TO THAT SONG ”, and things kind of ... uh ... spiraled as I came up with too many AUs to list + EPILOGUE-ERA AUs / HEADCANONS ESPECIALLY INCLUDED ]

... And, you know, I don’t regret that I’ve worked on this 30k+ WORDS/AMVs. Even if only got a couple reviews initially, (I know, my writing is poor) [ there’s reasons for that that would be way too time-consuming to explain ] I met some amazingly kind fans via it I’ve received other nice comments since, too, honestly, after all the hard work/time I poured into those self-indulgent AMVs, I can only say to those who encouraged, supported, and chatted with me, ( me, a person with autism + severe anxiety who was terrified of posting anything with my deeper thoughts, ) those who gave it a chance, thank you so much.
