in your headcanon would iraq as a character be super old like iran and china? or would they be younger, like egypt and greece in hetalia?

i really need to do more research, but based on what i know so far, i’m leaning towards them being younger like egypt and greece. so the likes of sumer, akkad, babylon, assyria would probably be the Old Nations whose blood runs in the veins of descendants/successors like iraq.

I was just wondering the relationship between Turkey and Iraq?

In 1055, with the Seljuk empire beginning to flex it’s muscles, Iraq and he would have had a temporary century to acquaint one another with this temporary leadership of the turks until 1152. Mostly it was a military gain, seeing as the Seljuks were exactly that– an extension of the Persian Military gone large, but of course, Mongol and Mazyadid interference weakened Seljuk by the later 12th century. 

The 16th century then brought forth the beginning of Ottoman and Iraqi relations as the sultanate took over the Mesopotamian land during the, overall, biggest expanse the empire knew. Unfortunately for Iraq, not having been known as “Iraq” but as three divided provinces by the name of Mosul, Baghdad, and Basra. Turk involved himself with Baghdad more than the other two, but otherwise all three were shared a familiar Arabic-speaking Kurdish culture.

Iraq, being Shi’a, and Ottomans, being Sunni, they already faced an incredible issue of religion— so it was unlike the two to not have bickering disputes and disagreements. Especially seeing as Iraq was previously Persian territory which was, at a fault, Ottoman’s natural enemy. With the beginning of the Ottoman rule, agriculture in Iraq had been unfortunately neglected, so it was thanks to insistent pestering and managing of crops and trade on Ottoman’s part to the fertile crescent that the territory was able to become proficiently prosperous and worthy of it’s investment.

Of course, as World War I came around, this territory was one of the Ottoman Empire’s more crucial losses. The UK then invaded the three provinces and founded their unification as the war. Seeing as it was rearing close to the 1920′s, Turkey himself was facing more crucial internal issues of Civil War and Independence, so it wasn’t until the 1930s that their relationship began to simmer from it’s previous boiling point. Iraq still kept it’s close ties with the UK, but nonetheless as an Independent Arabic state till modern day [Despite disputes on which Iraqi provinces would stay in Iraq and which would go to Turkey. Specifically the Mosul province.] 

As of late, Turkey and Iraq expect better relations to come with both of their hopes for peace and prosperity between their regions. Sure, it’s been an on and off tense relationship of Turk’s overbearingness on the poor Arab(s), but nonetheless it’s out of good intention (usually).
