DPXDC Prompt #58 Part 3
Gotham Academy High School was the sort of school where almost everyone was elite in some way or another. Some of them were from old money like Damian who held himself up to a very high standard in his academics and was the top of the class. Others from new money like Dash and the rest of his cohorts became very hateful of somebody like Danny who was given a scholarship by Bruce Wayne, in their eyes Danny was taking advantage of Damian not even knowing that Damian approached Danny for companionship two years ago.
This also meant that everyone including the teachers would compare Danny and Damian to each other even though they weren’t brothers. That didn’t matter though as Danny was associated with them so that was all the reason they needed.
Danny groaned as he sunk into the seat next to Damian. The lunchroom was filled with chatting students and Danny was glad he shared the next class with Damian, which happened to be English. Dash never bothered Danny when Damian was around, probably because Damian had threatened the jock. How he was threatened Danny didn’t know, Damian never told him what happened and he was a little scared to ask.
The guy hadn’t stopped harassing Danny since he and Jazz transferred a couple years ago. The school year had barely begun and Dash had made Danny his primary target like he was making up for lost time over the summer. Danny sighed as he dropped his paper bagged lunch on the table with a little plop. Jazz had packed for him this morning hopefully before his parents arrived and contaminated the entire kitchen.
“Dash again?” his sister asked across the table, she was seated next to Tim.
“I was paired against him in dodgeball again,” Danny lamented, his head resting on his arms that were crossed on the table.
“Danny, could you just talk to Mr. Lancer or something?” Jazz asked before she took a bite from her sandwich.
Danny sighed again and unpacked his lunch, “I have but no one will listen! They all act like I’m lying or something.” The teachers at this school probably wouldn’t listen to a charity case like him. Dash was a football player and had plans to become captain of the team. Everyone at the school loved Dash and it was precisely why everyone except maybe the four students at the table they were seated looked down and sometimes even bullied Danny.
Danny ignored it all eventually, it was better just to let the jock tire himself out.
Once Danny and Damian finished eating they made their way to English. Luckily it was easy to carry the material for a class that only required a small binder and whatever book they were reading, in this case it was ‘gone with the wind’. Danny didn’t really care about reading old literature like this but he did what he had to maintain the grades he had. He’d endure anything, even Dash’s bullying, to become an astronaut.
Danny could hardly concentrate today through his afternoon classes. For some reason he had a bad feeling that something was going to happen. He tried his best to ignore it, he was probably just tired or something. Soon the school day was out and Danny packed up whatever homework he had for the day and headed outside to wait with Jazz. Damian and Tim were probably wrapping up their classes. Tim had an AP class that ran an extra 30 minutes and Damian’s last class was art, they were doing a painting and it wasn’t unusual for Damian to finish up what he was working on as he found out over the last few years that he enjoyed painting.
“… Do you think it’ll work?” Jazz asked a hint of hesitation in her voice. Danny knew she was talking about the portal, the both of them had talked about it before. Danny glanced over at his sister, he could tell she was having trouble sleeping lately, her face looked tired and her posture was stiff with her arms crossed in front of her. Both of them had anxiety about the possibilities the portal possessed, and they were especially worried that their parents wouldn’t take it well if the portal didn’t work.
He was equally concerned that it would work. “I hope not…” he said eventually. It was something that brought the siblings closer as the whole of their family fell apart. How their parents managed to pull off getting the funding in the first place seemed to be a miracle. Everyone called their parents crazy and dismissed all of their science as ludicrous garbage.
Danny wondered how they even managed to stay under Batman's radar, he thought that something like this would be cause for the vigilante to look into it but maybe the thought of ghosts was just that outlandish that even the dark knight himself thought it to be crazy too. Danny himself didn’t believe in anything his parents published, some of the papers even seemed to be biased somehow, even though his parents hadn’t ever actually encountered a ghost. That last part was probably the reason no one bothered to actually investigate his parents, there wasn’t really much to investigate.
The siblings waited in silence and eventually Tim and Damian showed up after their classes and the four headed to Alfred waiting by the car.
If anyone tried to start a conversation with Danny he wasn’t paying attention. If he was being honest, his parents' portal scared him a lot. He wasn’t sure why he felt so nervous about it, both him and Jazz renounced the thought that ghosts could exist. Something deep down in his guts told him that he should turn and run, that what his parents were attempting was taboo and that his parents were tampering with forces unimaginable.
No one was going to listen to a fourteen year old though so Danny kept his feelings to himself and ignored them.
Soon they were pulled in front of their apartment and true to their word, Damian and Tim asked Alfred to park nearby. Danny and Jazz took a hesitant glance at each other as they walked into the house.

Wished Away 7:
Happy Thanksgiving (Early, I Know, Shut up):
“Father, Mother, and Uncle Tucker wish to invite you to our Thanksgiving meal,” Damian said.
“Are you sure?” Bruce asked, “we’re a lot.”
Even without Damian, Bruce had many children and cooking for all of them was sometimes a tall order.
Damian smiled, “We are aware. You are not the only family we are inviting. Every child Father, Mother, and Uncle Tucker has taken in we have invited along with their remaining family if they have any. Even the non-Americans have been invited.”
“We’d be delighted to come,” Alfred said for his family, “should we bring anything?”
“You may,” Damian agreed, “however, the chefs and cooks of the Palace will be preparing the main meal. It will be mostly meatless. Seitan mostly, in observance with mine and Mother’s dietary needs and our beliefs. It will also be made in-line with kosher regulations.”
“Cookies,” Jason said, looking at Alfred, “we can make vegan cookies.”
“Very well, Master Jason,” Alfred nodded, already planning for such a large batch, or several batches.
Damian grinned.
Thanksgiving Day arrived and the portal opened.
They filed through and were greeted by Sam, the younger Sam on her hip, “Happy Thanksgiving.”
Sammy just waved shyly, gaining fond chuckles.
They all echoed the sentiment and were led through the palace to one of the ballrooms, “Not even the large dining room is big enough to hold our horde,” she said with humor.
“Oh?”
“Everyone invited came,” Sam explained before visibly remembering, “Oh, and any red wine you see? Not red wine; we have a vampire in attendance. He eats human food but not really.”
“Of course,” Bruce nodded; only Dick was of age to drink, of his children, but neither one really drank. Still, it was good to know.
“’m assuming the vamp’s friendly?” Jason voiced.
“Friendly as in doesn’t eat humans anymore, yeah,” Sam nodded, “but, well, Spike’s Spike. You’ll understand once you meet him. Don’t go after his humans and he’s nice enough.”
“Fair enough,” Stephanie nodded.
“Also in attendance are a Vampire Slayer, several witches and wizards, two magic superheroes…basically everyone you met at Damian’s birthday party’s here. I know Spike wasn’t there; he had to babysit the Hellmouth that day, so he’s really the only new face. Him and his daughter, Hope.”
“Vampires can have—”
“She’s adopted, from a separate dimension. Danny brought her to the Hellmouth group to hide her. She’s being raised by Buffy and Spike.”
“Oh.”
They finally made it to the ballroom; the doors were wide open; servants rushed forward to relieve the Waynes of the platters of cookies they carried before they entered the room.
Most of the room was divided down the middle by a cartoonishly long dining table, bench seating on either side of it. Settings were already in place.
In one corner was a padded and gated off area where Anakin and the baby that could only be Hope played. Well, played as only young babies could, which wasn’t much.
Dotted around the room were small clusters of regular chairs and beanbag chairs, some of which were already occupied, surrounding small tables with pitchers of water and juices and, yes, blood.
Spike the vampire was easy to pick out from the masses because he had a glass of what looked like red wine in hand. Nobody else did.
The Waynes spread out, first finding Damian to say hello, then mingling and visiting with the friends made at the birthday party.
Bruce made his way towards the vampire.
“’Lo,” Spike greeted lowly over his drink, Buffy at his side.
“Hello, Buffy,” Bruce said before smiling with a closed mouth, “and you must be Spike. Bruce Wayne.”
“Not an ape, mate,” Spike snorted, “won’t attack if you smile at me. Sit down, take a load off. Hear you’re Batman. The real deal one.”
“I am,” Bruce took a seat, reaching to fill a cup with orange juice, “where did you hear it from?”
“Dawn was excited; her little brother’s bio-dad is Batman,” Buffy explained, rolling her eyes fondly, “one of my friends, Xander, is a big comic book nerd.”
“Ah. I assume there won’t be any problems?”
“Not from us,” Spike agreed, nudging Buffy with a smirk, “my girl here’s a superhero too. Won’t be any trouble from our lot. Right, Slayer?”
“Yep. No problems from us. If Danny and Sam are good with you being…you know, you then we’re good,” Buffy nodded, “just as long as you don’t put Dawnie or Hope in a suit.”
“I don’t want them out there,” Bruce grumbled, “but if I didn’t help them, they’d all be dead by now.”
“We get it, honestly,” Buffy assured, “Dawn’s given us enough gray hair,” she grinned mischievously at Spike, “she’s even given Billy Idol here some.”
“Slayer, you know that pissant stole—”
Bruce laughed.
Everyone mingled and chatted for a few hours before the meal began; servant after servant carried food and drinks to the main table as everyone found seats on the benches.
Spike and Danny placed the babies into highchairs.
By the time everything and everyone was ready, the table was fairly groaning with the meal.
Danny gained everyone’s attention, standing and grinning, “Welcome to Thanksgiving Dinner at the Palace. Thank you all for coming, even our non-Americans for putting up with our silly traditions.”
The non-Americans laughed fondly, nodding; even Alfred cracked a smile.
“For those who’re probably wondering,” he continued, “our essential living staff celebrated at lunch and most will have the day off tomorrow. Everyone else had the day off today. Now, normally we’d go around and say what we’re thankful for but we’d be here forever if we did that tonight. So, while we eat let’s just think about what we’re thankful for and enjoy the food and the company. Oh, and just so you know, everything’s kosher and most of the ‘meat’ is actually Seitan. Real meat is on the green platters. But before we begin, let’s give a round of thanks to the kitchen staff for making the food!”
Everyone applauded.
“Now, tuck in!”
They all did so with gusto; the meal was magnificent and it was clear the Palace staff had put their all into it.
Most of the Seitan was shaped into meat product appearances, looking indistinguishable from the real turkeys and hams. And it tasted almost like the real things too.
The meal lasted well into the night and everyone went home stuffed and with leftovers.

I just realized. I don't think I've seen anything about April in OaaHF. Where is she? What does she do in the resistence? How aware is she of Leon's situation?
Set while Leon is recovering from his first facial scar:
“No, no way!”
Leon groaned as the yell woke him, sound getting choked out by the bandages wrapped tight around his neck. Constricting his airway making it so he could never get a full breath, was always light headed. Although that could be the bloodloss.
“We need his portals, its not a-”
“I don’t care if it’s a transport mission, I don’t care if he’s at the very back line, you are not getting him out of that bed,”
Leon scrunched up his face so he wouldn’t have to deal with the light of day. Or the light of med bay. He wanted to go back to sleep and it wasn’t even the yelling that was stopping him. Pain flared along his face and shoulder in tandem with his heartbeat. Bandages pulled meticulously tight making every throb worse.
“It’s not an active mission, I’ve mapped out the points all Kraang will be avoided-”
“Then you do it!”
That voice, Leon knew it even past the haze pain. Probably helped that there were no painkillers available to keep him floaty. He sighed his big sisters voice was always soothing, well when she wasn’t yelling at him. Although he supposed she technically was.
“Ape’s I’m needed here,” Leo reasoned, his voice was deep and raspy. Huh Leon wondered if his voice sounded closer to it now, “I can’t up and leave the resistance without aleader for a minor mission,”
“So you admit it’s a minor mission!” April accused, Leon tried to open his eyes. The best he could make out was a couple of blurry figures until the light forced him to shut them.
“Minor but needed, lives are at stake here April,”
“His life is at stake!” Leon opened his mouth, but his throat was raw and the skin of his cheek pulled weirdly threatening to make him throw up if he tried. He tried anyway, why should be matter? “If he moves that wound, the wound you gave him is going to tear right open, he won’t survive that a second time,”
“April it was an accident, my hand slipped,”
His future self was right of course. After all he had been the one to sacrifice his scarf to keep as much blood inside Leon’s body as possible. He had literally held Leon’s life in his hands. You didn’t do that for a person you were actually trying to kill… no matter how much it looked lik you wanted to seconds before.
That was fine. It was an accident. Leon shouldn’t have baited him.
“Bullshit, also I don’t give a crap, he’s not ready for field work!”
“The doctor cleared him,”
“Which you know they shouldn’t have!” April screeched, ugh Leon wished she wouldn’t, “Come on Leo you're a medic, just look at him!”
There was silence. Leon held still pretending to be asleep. Which was easy as he was teetering on the edge of unconsciousness. Only the jabs of pain and his sister keeping him present.
“It’s between him and them,”
“Him, everytime, my little brother should come first everytime,” Leon’s heart didn’t know if it should skip a beat or clench. It was the answer he wanted to hear- but one he was completely undeserving of.
“I can’t play favorites,”
“Plaaeesseee,” The pure amount of sarcasm poured into the tone would have shot three men dead, “Is that why Mikey’s locked up in the underground bunker within an underground bunker, deep fried and finished with magic?”
“April-”
“Or how about Donnie’s lab, which is enforced with thirty percent of our titanium stores?” Leo would have rolled his eyes if they wouldn't just keep rolling back into his head. Obviously it wasn’t a matter of favoritism, his brothers were simply more important than him, “And how me and Cassie keep getting shortlisted missions? Junior hasn’t left your side in months and you haven't left this safehold in a year? Yet guess who’s going on missions every other week?”
“It’s all a matter of circumstance,” Leo’s voice took on a cold and harsh tone, “I’m trying to keep everyone alive for the sak-”
“Everyone but Leon,”
She called him Leon… when had he become Leon? When has he started solely thinking of himself as Leon? Why was his futureself exclusively Leo? The thoughts were to hard to capture, slipping through his hands like sand. He wasn’t sure he wanted to dwell on them anyway.
“Well sucks for you but I care about keeping him alive, even if you don’t,”
That wasn’t fair, he cared about Leon he did, as much as he could. Leon didn’t make it easy, after… after everything he caused. He couldn’t blame his future self for being a bit weird. He cared where it counted. Leon would’ve been dead three times over now if he didn’t.
“This mission is needed-”
“I’ll go then,”
No, April
“April, No,”
“If it’s so important you need to drag him out of bed and risk reopening the slice you put in his neck then it’s important enough for I, commander O’Neil to take over,”
“You’re not who you are in the future, you’re not Commander O’Neil,”
“And I never will be if you keep coddling,” April spat, “Besides I don’t care about being a commander right now, I care about being a sister, so it’s either I take the mission or you cancel it,”
The silence stretched on. Leon grasped onto his threads of consciousness. Purposely twitching his shoulder to get the fiery pain to keep him awake. It was amazing how something could fill him with so much dread yet he still selfishly felt hope that they would go through with it. Because he was selfish, rather stay hidden away in bed in a back room of the stronghold while his big sister fronted all the danger.
“Fine,” Relief and dread, unfortunately not in equal measure, “You come back alive understand?”
“Oh darn, there go my plans,” April tossed back, a shade closer to her usual teasing tone but still tense.
Leo didn’t answer. Because he was Leo, even in Leon’s own mind. But the older turtle huffed. Leon listened to his footsteps fade as Aprils got closer. The dip in his bed bit him to open his eyes.
“Heya blue, you awake?” April’s hand gently brushed his forehead, Leon cringed as he opened his eyes, “How’re you doing?”
He couldn’t answer, not really. So he leaned into her palm. Flinching as the small movement pulled on his wound from neck to cheek. He hissed through the pain. Tight bandages around his throat feeling suffocating as he would have struggled to breath even without them.
“Sorry, sorry, just wanted to check in,” The details of Aprils face were hard to make out pain blurring them out, “I’m going away for a mission,”
“Do… t,” Leon tried to sound out, it didn’t come anywhere close, but hey look at that: His voice was raspy.
“Don’t worry about me, it’s my job to worry about you,” She pat his cheek, thumb rubbing soft circles under his eye, “Seriously, please, it’s ok to care about yourself, you should, once in a whil- actually all the time,”
Leon shook his head imperceptibly. She was wrong. He had done that, over and over again. Each time they lost so much. He couldn’t, not anymore. Why couldn’t she understand that?
Leo understood that. He knew what it was like to sit with that guilt, that self hate. He knew how to work for others to ease that feeling even a little bit. As losses stacked everyday and crushed him under their weight.
“I bet your thinking something stupid right now,” April pinched his opposite cheek, the unscarred one that showed off his brilliant red stripe, “I wish you were better so I could beat my love into your skull, but we’ll have to save that for when I get back,”
Leon plucked up the strength to use his right arm. Greaspoing Aprils loosely. He needed to get his point across, even without words, he had to.
“I will be alright, you rest up,” April moved from his grasp to instead thread their fingers together, “I’m your big sister, I’m always going to look out for you, even if I have to do that by not being here,”
No, no that wasn’t what he meant. Leo jerked to grab her again. White hot flares shot through his shoulder. Fuck, wrong arm. Darkness clawed at the edge of his vision, plusing in time with the pain searing through him.
“You’re so………. Don’t let anyone convince you…..” April's voice faded in and out, “ We have always…….. None of this………… alright Leon?”
Leon, that was the last word he caught before his world faded to black. The last thing he heard his sister say.
When he woke up.
She was gone.

Between the reality gauntlet, the scepter of Duul Amon and Freakshow’s staff I’d say we know ghosts are not immune to human magic, and Danny even less so.
I propose that the Dan timeline being averted did some timeline fuckery - maybe Clockwork purposefully did this timeline fuckery - where in Amity Park was then deposited in a world where that Cannot Happen Again because mortal and immortal wizards, sorcerers, witches and mages would be ready for it.
Captain Marvel, as Champion of Magic, isn’t gonna go down so easy so long as he’s in his champion form and Danny can barely handle electric shocks from Technus and Vlad, i don’t think he’s tanking a shot of Power Of Zeus to the face.
On the same note: Thor has definitely fought ghosts before. I’m not even gonna go check, I just know he has. His neice is the goddess of death and he deals with all kinds of shit, he could throw down with Danny.
Far more interesting to me would be the question of which hero comes to AP to help out from time to time and eventually just yells at the Fentons to close the portal?
#Danny Phantom#DP x DC#DP x Marvel#sorry I just think it’s so funny how people go ‘Well Dan happened so he must be able to wipe the Leagueor Avengers’ honey no#danny gets his ass handed to him by his own rogue’s gallery regularly#he’s not beating experienced hero teams solo

I would like my mods to be available in more languages than just english, but I don't know how to like, solicit translations.
Also presumably the mods need to be in a basically-finished state, otherwise you would need to go to everyone and be like "hey hey please translate these three phrases" whenever you add anything. This is an issue because occasionally you can't do a small rebalance or add compatibility with another mod without adding a new item, which needs a name and possibly a description.
I know that I'm going to need to do a big update when the expansion releases, which is as good an excuse as any to do some base-breaking changes to the easy mode which is at this point mostly solidified (e.g. moving galvanized steel from hard to easy mode, with hard mode potentially introducing multiple galvanized parts and possibly a dedicated electroplating machine. but maybe this is shading into outright aping Galdoc's manufacturing. although really more like aping real industrial processes.) This kind of big update would probably be fine for asking for translation updates, except it would likely need multiple small balance and compat updates trickling in afterwards, and then it has the same issue.
On the other hand you can make translations as separate mods, so it doesn't necessarily need my intervention.
On the third hand having potentially multiple translation mods per gameplay-changing-mod clutters the mod portal search results when they are really easy to integrate into the main mod.

Are we not Engaged? Part 14.
Red vs Blue!
Spoilers under the cut.
Red Alear has a lot of ballista.
The avalanch mechanic was REALLY poorly explained, I thought I had to hide BEHIND the rock outcroppings, not IN FRONT OF THEM.
Red Alear still needs a hug.
Lol the animals you can adpt are no different from normal ones even though this is 1000 years ago.
Oh god Sombron is horrific.
Zephia hears Sombron treats his children like tools and decides she wants one of those. She’s like Eunie but a monster.
Lumera just wandering around enemy territory lol
Lumera was so nice TnT
Veyle worried
The guardian worries Veyle
Sombron’s castle is kinda cool
Veyle’s really uncomfortable
Oh lord it’s Lumera, Sombron is a bastard.
They’re repeating Mikoto, lol...
Lol stupid Veyle snuck in alone.
is Lumera threatening Veyle or challenging her to a dance competition?
This is supposed to be terrible but we barely know Lumera
The fuck Lumera knows was the ring would do?
Nice of Lumera’s body fading away to just pause at her waist for about a minute so she can have a second too-long death scene lol.
Oh no the party’s throwing death flags for the Emblems XD
The Emblems are gonna go away, lol. They’re tools, not characters, this’d be like being sad about the Wing Spear dying at the end of Shadow Dragon.
“The Last Engage” jesus christ.
Oh yeah you might notice I’ve stopped reporting on supports. I’ll get back to those :p
I have to enter the final battle from the Somniel directly, lol, what.
Marth’s being ominous again.
We’re actually riding the Somniel through the portal Sombron opened.
Something’s bugging Marth.
The portal’s ripping the Emblems apart. Oof. And once the portals closes it’ll send out a shockwave that’ll destroy the portals.
If you wanted me to care about the Emblems disappearing you should have actually had them be characters.
There’s like no cinema for entering the portal, you’re just THERE.
Oh, Sombron’s actually willing to let bygones be, lol, that’s kinda remarkable.
Sombron’s after Lelouch!!!
Ah, so Sombron’s from another world. Right, Lumera said nobody knows where he came from.
Why are they bothering to try reasoning with Sombron, he’s clearly deranged.
Lol, Marth confirms that Emblems are different from the people they’re based on.
He’s babbling about revenge but on who? The Zero Emblem?
Also shut up, Marth.
Oh he’s fucking with the Emblems. Oh shoot, Emblems are dead, that sucks :p
Power of friendship moment lol.
Oh no, this scene is just the characters condensing their character gimmicks into one scene XD
“Let us engage!” Roll credits!
This scene of all the Emblems coming back is really gratuitous.
I just noticed Sombron’s... things that those purple crystals are dangling from attaches to his hair. What.
This final boss theme sure don’t hold one drop of a candle’s wax to Id Purpose, End of All, Twilight of the Gods, or Apex of the World.
Sombron, both now and in the flashback, scolds Alear for turning on her father despite rejecting the concept of bonds, so what on earth is he griping at her for? Severing a bond that was never there?
Yeah I was expecting the dragon form, that first phase was way too easy.
ROFLMAO, DARK EMBLEMS.
So wait he rejects the idea of bonds, but he makes his own Emblems? God this guy’s a hypocrite.
Gah that final boss took forever! T_T
Oh please, cut it out with the pity party for the cretin who traumatized his kids.
Jesus why's this game so eager to make abuse victims try to be sympathetic to their abusers.
And bam, back to the Somniel. This game really rushes transitions.
This game’s still trying to make me think Marth was the biggest best partner, lol.
Oh lord, each of the Emblems is going to give some canned dialogue that references their character from their respective games, lol.
Lol, of course fucking Marth gets a special longer scene.
It’s trying to ape Azura’s death scene from Birthright but as usual it misses the landing because it drags it out too long.
Clanne and Framme never developed as people lol.
Holy shit, Alfred fucking died after the war! Long live Queen Celine, rofmao.
The hell, the Emblems are back?
You've gotta be kidding me THIS GAME DOESN'T HAVE A SUPPORT VIEWER ON THE MAIN MENU?
Whooo...
Anyways, game’s done. I’ll be back later with final thoughts.

The Portal Home is Built with Roadblocks - Chapter 20
I'm trying something new with the chapters. Instead of just posting the link I'm going to put the chapter on here too. Anywho, enjoy!
AO3 Link
“You know you don’t have to tip-toe around him, right?”
Chula gave him a flat look, “I am not ‘tip-toeing’ around.”
Leon snorted, “Riiight, that’s why you’re sneaking out after everyone’s gone to bed. Probably to sleep in your ship by yourself because old me is being a dum-dum.”
Chula huffed, turning around to fully face Leon, “Nothin’ gets by you, huh?”
“Look, I don’t know what other me said to you,” Leon stepped through the Lair’s entrance and into the tunnel, stopping when he was right in front of Chula. “But me? I’m glad you got my twin back safe and I know you don’t just run into every fight chanting ‘kill, kill, kill’.”
“....I mean, ‘Oya’ can translate to-”
“You know what I mean!”
Chula snorted, “Well, if it helps, I mostly want to keep an eye on my ship.”
“Bullshit,” Leon hissed back.
Chula shook her head fondly, patting Leon’s shoulder, “Look, it’s not just Leo, they’re all a bit wary of me and I don’t blame them for that. Plus, I really do want to do some maintenance on the Tortuga.”
Leon narrowed his eyes.
He knew Chula was playing things down. He’d seen Leo whispering with his brothers on the way back but he hadn’t been able to pick out the words. But Chula definitely could’ve heard them and they were probably talking about her.
He wanted to march into Leo’s room and demand he apologize to Chula.
But she’d probably just shake her head in a fond but disapproving way at that. Because god forbid Chula Verd actually get mad on her own behalf.
“Well I don’t think you should go off alone.”
Chula rolled her eyes, “Verd’ika, I can sleep in a ship by myself. You should stay with your family.”
“But you are family,” Leon countered. “You shouldn’t have to go hide because our alternatives are being weird!”
“If you two are quite done,” Donnie’s voice drifted from the Lair as he shuffled over to them, yawning widely. “I have already proposed to our brethren that we all stay in Chula’s ship.”
Leon blinked, leaning back so he could peer around Donnie to see that, yup, the rest of the fam was sleepily shuffling over, dragging a few blankets behind them. He grinned and spun back towards Chula, already begging with his eyes.
She didn’t need convincing but Leon’s puppy eyes made her giggle.
“Okay, okay, you can all bunk with me,” Chula chuckled. “Did someone leave a note? Can’t have everyone thinkin’ we all got kidnapped.”
“I have taken the liberty of sending a message to Don,” Donnie said quickly.
“And it didn’t wake him?” Raphie murmured, rubbing his eye.
“He has a habit of leaving his phone in his lab,” Donnie explained.
“Good enough for me!” Leon spun out a katana.
Distance and unfamiliar turf were still shaky ground for him but he’d spent hours walking and running and climbing and training in the Tortuga. So building the mental image in his head was as easy as breathing.
He slashed his katana in a downward arc, creating a perfect blue portal. And when he leapt through, his feet immediately met the worn rugs that decorated the living quarters, and he sucked in a deep breath of recycled air.
His brothers, Apes, and CJ shuffled through the portal after him, taking in the interior with quiet awe. Even Donnie was actually looking around, taking the ship in this time instead of sulking.
Chula stepped through last, fondly shaking her head and walking over to a blanket storage crate. Leo released his concentration, letting the portal snap out of existence before flopping back onto the couch, “Welcome to the Tortuga, please keep your hands and feet inside the ship at all times. Snacks are in the kitchen but, last I checked, it was all fish jerky and food that’s way too spicy to be considered edible.”
“Not my fault your spice tolerance is weak,” Chula hummed as she tipped the entire crate over, spilling every blanket and pillow she owned onto the floor.
“He cannot handle it at all,” Michel agreed. “He can’t even handle hot cheetos.”
“Okay, what is this?” Leon sat up to glare at the two. “Make fun of Leo time? You two running the comedy hour now?”
“Someone’s gotta keep you humble,” Chula teased as she pushed and tucked a nest-like shape out of the blankets. “Now get over here, the tour can wait until after everyone’s had a few hours of proper sleep.”
“God yes,” Apes groaned, flopping into the middle of the nest. “...whooooa this is comfy. Are blankets from space, like, extra soft or something?”
Raphie giggled, carefully shuffling down on top of Apes and scoping her into his arms, “Thanks for this Chula.”
“‘Course,” Chula flapped a hand in dismissal. “Not like I have enough bunks on here for all of you…wonder if I could add some-”
“Yes, yes, add it to your project list,” Leon jumped up and started to pull at Chula’s backplate. “Now get all this off and join us! You don’t get to shoo me to bed and then slink away to the cabins!”
Chula huffed and did…whatever trick there was to get her armor off. Leon yelped when the back and chest plates fell off the undersuit and sent him sprawling onto the floor.
His siblings all cackled as he scrambled to right himself and glared at Chula. She merely smirked back as she stacked her armor carefully on the couch. Leon waited, shifting from foot to foot until the last piece of beskar steel had been laid out and left Chula in only her green flight suit.
Leon grabbed her hand, dragging her to the turtle pile that had formed. Raphie was in the middle, of course, with Apes tucked securely in his arms. CJ was leaning on one of his shoulders, Donnie on the other and Michel had tugged a blanket and pillow with him to curl up on top of Raphie’s shell.
Leon tugged Chula down so she was sitting Next to Donnie, leaning on Raphie’s side. After some grunting and adjusting, Leon tucked himself into her side, slinging an arm around her middle and churring happily when her claws scratched along his shell.
He felt a chuckle rumbling in her chest and heard Raphie give a low, growling purr of contentment.
Yeah, this had been an amazing idea. He’d have to thank Donnie for waking everyone up later.
…and have that ‘talk’. A proper one, like Chula had said.
Leon cracked an eye open to look at his twin. Donnie had his back to Leon but…he looked relaxed, more relaxed than he’d looked since he’d first found Leon and Chula in the sewer.
It settled something in Leon, something he hadn’t even noticed was bugging him until he saw Donnie was, for all intents and purposes, finally calm.
Leon sighed and shut his eye again, settling more snuggly against Chula.
He and Donnie would have to talk eventually. Leon had to apologize for calling him names and trying to force him to like Chula. But sleep first sounded pretty great at that moment.
Warm, safe and surrounded by his family, he couldn’t think of a better place to be as he drifted into sleep.
Only to be blinking awake long before he should be.
He frowned, glancing up to see everyone else was still snoozing away. And he knew it was still night time because the lights would turn on automatically at what he considered ‘eight o’clock standard’.
He grumbled to himself, preparing to hunker back down and try to fall asleep again when he noticed his first assessment wasn’t quite accurate.
There was a Donnie sized gap on the other side of Chula.
Leon sat up, frowning as he scanned the entire common room.
Nope. No Donatello.
Where had he gone?
Leon carefully excreted himself from the sleep pile, only getting a mild huff from Chula, and carefully tip-toed into the hall, peeking out to see if he twin was anywhere to be seen.
Not in the corridors.
Or the cabins.
Not in the Hold either.
Leon clambered his way up the ladder to the bridge last, wondering if Donnie had left the ship entierly.
And snorted when he found Donnie, sitting in Chula’s seat and playing with the steering yoke, “You know she has it locked down, right?”
Donnie shot a glare over his shoulder, “I wasn't going to attempt flying it underground.”
“And do not count on ever flying it,” Leon dropped into his co-pilot seat. “The only time someone else took this helm was when she was whacked out on poison and we had to get off the planet quickly.”
Donnie hummed, leaning back in his seat to stare out the windshield.
Leon looked out too. The view wasn’t anything close to what he usually saw out of the glass, but there was a sort of comfort in the dingy, gray brick of underground New York…even with the weird splashes of teal mixed in.
The twins sat like that for a while. Just existing in each other's space.
Leon debated striking up conversation. This would be an opportune time for a ‘talk’, but maybe it was too soon? He should give Donnie time to rest and recover from his abduction before making him deal with emotions.
But how often was it just going to be the two of them? Donnie was the one of the few people who could figure out how to send everyone home.
The decision was taken out of Leon’s hands when Donnie spoke first, “I found my tracker in Don’s lab.”
Leon nodded slowly, “Yeah. CJ found it in the river. How’d they know you had one?”
“They probably had something that scanned for them,” Donnie said. “I was…unfortunately out of it a good deal of the time but from what I saw of the facility they took us too, the had a decent knowledge of technology.”
“But who thinks of scanning for trackers? They’d already ditched your phones.”
“People who are likely used to dealing with the Donatello brand of being prepared.”
“Ahh, yes, your paranoia,” Leon snickered.
Donnie made a low huffing sound.
Both of them were quiet for a few moments again before Donnie spoke again, “I’m still kinda mad at you.”
Leon blinked in surprise, “Oh?”
“And I believe the quickest way to get rid of this unwanted feeling is to talk to you about it. So…” he paused for a moment. “If you could allow me to get it all out before your rebuttal, I believe it would be…the most tolerable for me.”
“...alright,” Leon readjusted so that he was sitting sideways in the chair, facing Donnie. “Shoot.”
Donnie heaved in a breath, beak scrunching in focus, “...I am upset…because I feel like you left us…you left me…logically, I know why you did it, we clearly couldn’t stop the Krang from taking over the first time, hence why Junior was sent to us, but…you left, you chose to leave us…”
He inhaled again and Leon fought down the urge to fill the pause with chatter.
“And when we finally found you…it still felt like you weren’t choosing us because…all you wanted to talk about was this,” he gestured to the bridge around them. “And Chula. Look at what Chula showed me, listen to all the things we did together, look how smart and strong she is. It was like…it was like you didn’t even miss us-”
Leon had to bite his cheek to keep from crying out in denial. He’d said he’d let Donnie finish first.
“And then…you seemed weirdly fixated on getting me to spend time with her and…I was sure she was taking you away from me so I didn’t want anything to do with her…she’s basically all of us wrapped into one package and I thought….maybe when we got back, you’d want to keep going to space…”
Okay, yeah, nope, nope, “Okay, I know you said no interrupting but I missed you guys every damn day. I literally couldn’t step on one planet without being reminded of one of you guys. There are literally two crates full of stuff I brought back for you guys back in the hold.”
Donnie raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, two! But no pre-gaming, we’ll dump ‘em out when everyone is up tomorrow. And I am not running off on another space adventure when we get back to our reality. Space is very cool but, fun fact, no one but Earth has good pizza. That alone makes me want to stay on terra firma for a very long time.”
“...then why did you only want to talk about Chula with me?”
Leo paused, “...it’s stupid.”
Donnie hummed, “You interrupted, I need to re-hype myself, so why were you so insistent that I like Chula?”
Leon hesitated, slumping in his seat, “...I know it’s selfish and stupid but…I was kinda hoping if we all liked her…she’d stay with us.”
Donnie frowned, “Doesn’t she have family in her dimension?”
“Yeah, that’s why it’s stupid,” Leon sighed. “But…she told me a little about how things were. There was a war going on when she got lost and a pretty nasty one from the sounds of it. And I know she wants to go back to check on her people but… she looks so tired when she talks about the war and she clearly loves all the stupid misadventures we got into…I kinda hoped she’d want to just…keep doing that, silly adventures with low stakes and not go back into a war zone.”
Donnie hummed in thought, “...you are worried the war in her dimension isn’t over and it will kill her.”
“Or, you know, that it’s a one-way trip and we’ll never see her again.”
“Oh, well, if my hypothesis is correct, that won’t be an issue.”
Leo frowned, looking up, “Huh?”
“It will certainly take a lot of power and a lot of testing but, hypothetically, if we can combine the Key’s new programming with Chula’s hyperdrive, theoretically, it would create a stable way to move from dimension to dimension with minimal repercussions.”
Leo sat up, jaw dropped, “And you never mentioned that?”
“I was irrationally upset at a great many things. But even then, the possibility of exploring more alternate realities was something I had to investigate.”
Oh, right, yeah, this was supposed to be him having a heart to heart with Donnie.
“...I take it back, you’re not a shabbing oaik’la vod. You’re awesome.”
“Yes, yes, I’ve put your fears to rest, you can thank me by telling me what… shabbing oo-lak la vod means.”
Leon snorted, “Oooh, I’m telling Raphie you swore.”
“You were swearing at me?”
“Yup, ‘shabbing oaik’la vod’ mean ‘fucking shitty brother’.”
Donnie made an indignant sound and stood up, eyes narrowing.
Leon chuckled nervously, slowly moving out of his chair and backing away, “Buuuut I said that while upset and didn’t mean it! So, we’re good, yeah? All hunky-dory? Water under the metaphorical bridge, right?”
Donnie was not convinced, because he still bodily tackled Leon to the floor. Leon put up a token struggle, growling and shoving at Donnie, trying to pry his death grip off. Donnie hissed back and refused to budge.
Both glared at each other for a few moments.
Leon spoke first, “We better?”
“...we’re better,” Donnie agreed. “But only if you help me find some terrible westerns from this dimension we can watch together.”
“Deal,” Leon agreed, wiggling an arm out to shake on the agreement. “Can you get off my chest now?”
“No, you’re being punished, this is your punishment.”
“Brat.”
“Shell-for-brains.”
Leon snorted, “Where’d you pick that one up?”
“Raph uses it a lot. I believe it’s his catchphrase.”
Leon snorted, thunking his head against the floor, “I dunno, ‘dummy dum-dums who are dumb’ is a pretty good one.”
Donnie sighed and flicked Leon between the eyes.

Angelenos Shrug at Recent Quakes, Decades After the Last ‘Big One.’ (NYT) Los Angeles, in all its glory, is a wonder to behold. Its finest days (high 70s, sunny, breeze whispering through the palm trees) can make one believe it is impervious to disaster. The unfortunate truth that lurks below the earth is thus easy to gloss over or even forget. Until it reminds you with a jolt. Suddenly there is no denying the shaking, the rattling, the swaying—and one’s memory is jogged. In recent months, Los Angeles has experienced a smattering of earthquakes that were just powerful enough to make residents stop in their tracks. One morning last week, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake was felt across all corners of the city. For some, the recent quakes have amplified the underlying dread of “the big one” and prompted many to wonder if the shaking is a prelude to a disaster. (The short answer is: it’s up for debate.) But for much of Los Angeles, the general response after being jostled awake, after floors and shelves have vibrated, is apathy.
America’s Oil Country Also Runs on Renewables (NYT) During the scorching summer of 2023, the Texas energy grid wobbled as surging demand for electricity threatened to exceed supply. Several times, officials called on residents to conserve energy to avoid a grid failure. This year it turned out much better—thanks in large part to more renewable energy. The electrical grid in Texas has breezed through a summer in which, despite milder temperatures, the state again reached record levels of energy demand. It did so largely thanks to the substantial expansion of new solar farms. And the grid held strong even during the critical early evening hours—when the sun goes down and the nighttime winds have yet to pick up—with the help of an even newer source of energy in Texas and around the country: batteries. The swift growth of battery storage as a source of power for the electric grid, along with the continued expansion of large-scale solar farms, could not have come at a better time. Texas, like many other states, is facing a surge in its power needs from data centers, new manufacturing plants, cryptocurrency mines, growing residential demand and increasingly intense summer heat. Officials estimate that Texas, already the nation’s largest electricity consumer, could roughly double its demand in just a few years.
It’s been a decade since 43 students disappeared in Mexico. Their parents still fight for answers (AP) Clemente Rodríguez has been documenting the long search for his missing son with tattoos. On Sept. 26, 2014, Christian Rodríguez, a tall boy who loved to folk dance and had just enrolled in a teachers college in the southern state of Guerrero, disappeared along with 42 classmates. Every year since, on the 26th of each month, Clemente Rodríguez, his wife, Luz María Telumbre, and other families meet at the Rural Normal School at Ayotzinapa and take a long bus ride to the capital, Mexico City, to demand answers. They will do so again next week, on the 10th anniversary of their sons’ disappearance. Rodríguez and the other parents are not alone. The 43 students are among more than 115,000 people still reported as missing in Mexico, a reflection of numerous unresolved crimes in a country where human rights activists say violence, corruption and impunity have long been the norm.
Firefighters quell most of Portugal's worst wildfires, fight still on (Reuters) Firefighters tackling deadly wildfires in central and northern Portugal had doused the flames in the Aveiro district, one of the worst-hit, as of Thursday, and were focusing on eight large blazes still raging elsewhere. After five days of ravaging tens of thousands of hectares of forest and farmland, destroying houses and claiming seven lives, the fires in Oliveira de Azemeis, Albergaria-a-Velha and Sever da Vouga, in the northwestern district of Aveiro, were no longer listed as active on the civil protection service's fires portal.
Violence rocks France overseas territories in challenge for new PM Barnier (Worldcrunch) France’s territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific are facing a new wave of unrest with security forces killing two men in New Caledonia and a curfew imposed after rioting in Martinique. The uptick in violence poses a challenge for new centre-right Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who has struggled to form a government following snap parliamentary elections in June, when no party won an absolute majority. The curfew in Martinique comes amid protests against the high cost of living on the island of 350,000.
The EU is trying to help Ukraine prepare for winter (AP) European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Ukraine on Friday focused on helping the country to repair and reconnect its war-damaged electricity grid and boost its heating capacity as winter approaches. Around half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been destroyed during its war with Russia, and rolling electricity blackouts leave parts of the east in darkness for four hours at a time. Von der Leyden said it was as though all of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia had lost electricity. Meanwhile, winter is approaching. The Europeans have already sent more 10,000 generators and transformers, and they’re supplying small and more mobile gas turbines too. These types of electricity-providing equipment is harder to hit and easier to repair. Ukraine’s winter runs from late October through March, with January and February the toughest months. The Europeans hope to help supply around 25% of the 17 gigawatts of power that the country is likely to need this winter.
Putin wants Russia’s youth to become patriots. Many are all in. (Washington Post) At age 25, Maryana Naumova is a regular speaker at youth forums, universities and talk shows across Russia. Naumova is one of thousands of young Russians who have inserted themselves into their country’s new wartime system, adopting Kremlin spin as their own beliefs and ensuring that Putin’s core ideology, of ultranationalist patriotism and Orthodox Christian values, will be carried forward by a new generation. This includes the idea that the United States wants to destroy Russia and that Russia is a peace-seeking victim rather than an aggressor. Like Naumova, they see themselves as patriotic truth-tellers, not instruments of spin. About 7 in 10 Russians between ages 18 and 24—69 percent—support Russia’s war in Ukraine, according to an August poll conducted by the Levada Center, an independent polling group. But 66 percent of young Russians also support moving toward peace talks, according to the poll—a higher proportion than the overall population, of whom only 50 percent support moving toward such talks.
Pagers attack brings to life long-feared supply chain threat (Washington Post) The deadly attack that caused thousands of pagers used by members of Hezbollah to explode Tuesday shines a spotlight on an inconvenient truth: It is virtually impossible to secure the modern electronics supply chain against a determined and sophisticated adversary. Experts call the Israeli attack unparalleled in the history of spycraft in its scale and casualty count, and believe the risk is low that other governments will follow suit in rigging consumer electronics this way. But the Lebanon attack brings to life a long-theorized, worst-case scenario that has troubled governments including the United States as electronic devices have grown more complex and global supply chains more convoluted. The incident may add momentum to political efforts from the U.S. and others to localize more production of critical technologies at home or with trusted allies. However, construction of the typical modern gadget involves dozens of countries, with a dizzying number of component suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
Why Israel’s pager attack in Lebanon is a war crime (Daraj/Lebanon) The idea is truly terrifying. In its gravity, it even exceeds the casualties—at least 12 dead, 3,000 wounded. To plant explosives in pager devices of more than 5,000 Hezbollah members and detonate the explosives remotely is beyond a security breach. Whoever pressed the detonation button, did so with the knowledge that the target was not going to be limited to those who carry the devices. He must have been aware that most Hezbollah members spend their days with their families or work colleagues, or they are walking in markets, stores and streets, along with civilians who have no idea what is going on. The decision was made to detonate about 5,000 small explosions. Benjamin Netanyahu approved the operation, so we can indeed say that he pushed the button himself. From what moral ground did this act originate? The majority of targeted Hezbollah members lived outside the trenches of war, and the decision to liquidate them all means that the goal was not to kill just them, but to expand the circle of death to their hometowns. Thus this new attack aimed at their “hometown” qualifies as a war crime, because the target goes beyond the fighters, down to their families and children. The individual targeted explosions are a kind of retaliatory act, and the pain they inflict goes beyond the death count. The tearing out of the eyes is a kind of torture, and the amputation of the fingers that the bombs caused hit not just the fighters, but their families and relatives.
Israel says it killed senior Hezbollah members (BBC) At least 14 people have been killed and 66 injured after Israel's military said it carried out a "targeted strike" on Beirut—its third attack on the Lebanese capital this year. Israel says it killed Hezbollah's operations commander Ibrahim Aqil in the strike. We are in Dahieh, Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut, and the streets around the site of the airstrike have been closed. There’s a heavy security presence of Hezbollah members stopping journalists from getting close to the location, a densely populated area. The atmosphere, unsurprisingly, is very tense. This latest Israeli attack, which the IDF says killed senior Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil, is another sign of the precise intelligence Israel has about the group. In July, another airstrike in Dahieh, Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut, killed Fouad Shukr, a right-hand man to the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah who was responsible for its military operations. He was the most-high profile Hezbollah member to have been killed in the current conflict. Today's attack is another humiliation for Hezbollah, in a week when hundreds of pagers and walkie-talkies used by the group exploded, causing chaos and panic across Lebanon. It was an unprecedented security breach that indicated how Israel had managed to penetrate the group’s communication system.
Sword with pharaoh’s mark found in Egypt, still shimmering 3,000 years later (Washington Post) More than 3,000 years ago, a long bronze sword emblazoned with the insignia of Ancient Egypt’s Ramses II—the most powerful pharaoh of the era—was set down in a mud hut somewhere in the Nile Delta. A team of archaeologists digging up an ancient fort in the area spotted the bronze blade and cleaned it, revealing this month they had found a shimmering blade with the intricacies of an ornamental cartouche—the personal emblem used by the pharaohs—still visible. It had not lost its reflective shine under the layers of rust and grime accumulated over millennia. Ramses II, the second-longest ruling pharaoh in Ancient Egypt, reigned from 1279 to 1213 BCE, a period marking the final peak of Egypt’s military power. Many scholars believe he was also the pharaoh reigning over Ancient Egypt during the time of Moses.
Book sales (Publishers Weekly) Total book sales were up 5.6 percent year over year in the first half of 2024, hitting $6.3 billion. That’s fueled by a 6.7 percent increase in sales of books for adults, as well as hot markets in the religion section (up 15.6 percent in the first six months) and the higher education book market (up 8 percent). Fiction for adults was up 11.3 percent, and sales of digital audiobooks were up 20.4 percent. The only areas where sales slipped were in children’s and young adult fiction and nonfiction.

FILM REVIEW
HELLBOY(2004)
Hellboy is a mix of supernatural and action. The story came from Mike Mignola’s comic. The film has a way of saying things with mocking language and lots of slang. The movie starts with a scene from World War II. The Nazi’s trying to summon Seven Gods of Chaos but instead they bring a little red thing with horns and tail from the portal. Instead of where he came from Professor Bruttenholm raises Hellboy as a savior from hellish powers and as hero to be.
Hellboy grew up and live in a secret headquarter of FBI with Ape Sapien, who is an aquatic creature. When Sammael appears, they go to rescue world together and make an unforgettable adventure for us to watch in amazement.
Hellboy is played by Ron Perlma’s unique style. He bring the character from the comic into real life and it is not an easy thing to achieve. Chomping on cigars, twitching his tail, and battling demons, Perlman makes an impossible character come alive. His chemistry with Selma Blair’s pyrokinetic Liz Sherman adds depth to the film.
With amazing directing skills Guillermo del Toro is the main person for the success of Hellboy. He made the film right out from the comic pages with camera angles and the aesthetic used.
Hellboy is a balance of action and humor but underneath its more than that. Hellboy is a demon and a hero. This makes a great opposition inside him and this I what the movie discovers, acceptance and judgement.
The villains are as deep characters as Hellboy. Grigori Rasputin is the one who opened the portal and helped Nazis with dark rituals. On the other hand, Kroenen who is in Nazi army is a long death modified to live person. He is the perfect one for the non-dying villain in the movie.
In the end we can say Hellboy is not just an another superhero film which ends with an hero accepted by people and live a prestigious life. Hellboy is more realistic than them and has a unique style.

Games Played in 2023
New year, new post where I humiliate myself by posting everything I played this year! And actually? I'm pretty proud of myself this year! If you look at 2022, I bought a LOT of games! A crazy amount! But this time, I actually didn't spend nearly as much this year. My purchase list is pretty short, and I actually barely bought anything during Steam Sales! I actually did not buy ANYTHING during the autumn and winter sales and I'm genuinely proud of myself!
And I managed to play a BUNCH of stuff! I really tore through a lot of games and had a lot of fun even with the ones I had to play on super easy difficulties cause I suck at games lmao. If you're curious what I spent time playing, you can take a look under the read more!
Key
Present - Game was given to me by someone else
Gift - I gave the game to someone else, but I can still play that copy
Free - I got the game for free
And as always I only put games on here that I played for the first time or had the intention of beating for the first time or reached a big milestone in for the first time. I won’t include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for example, I played it a lot this year. But I played it a lot last year too.
I also removed stuff like itchio bundles and subscription services because it bloats the list and... I'm a little embarrassed haha.

===========
And there you have it! Everything I bought, beat, and tried through the year! As always, I'm certain there's stuff missing that I didn't intentionally axe. I keep track of this stuff kinda closely cause I'll completely forget otherwise but even I make mistakes or play stuff that's forgettable lol.
As for next year? There's a few things I'd like to play in 2024, a couple of series I want to continue and a couple of new things to try, as well as a lot of games I wanted to play THIS YEAR but didn't get around to it! My only real gaming resolution is to play less Fortnite. I'm serious!
Looking back at my goals for 2023 I actually did get through a lot of them. Megaman, God of War, and Enchanted Arms were all games I mentioned wanting to play. And I said I wanted to play more meaty RPGs and wouldn't you know it, my top 5 old games I played this year were ALL RPGs! So I think I did a good job!
I also did a lot of emulating this year and had a GREAT time with it! I experimented with a ton of consoles and it's interesting to see how certain things work for more complicated stuff like PS3/360. It really did open up what I can play and I can't believe I just stopped doing this for a while! Glad to be back! NOW I CAN MAKE GIFS!!
That should be that for 2023! Here's to a fantastic year full of fun and video games for everyone! Let's head into 2024 blazing!

What Is Chroma Keying Green Screen and How Do You Use It?
When it comes to making movies and crafting videos, there are no boundaries. Filmmakers have the power to transport viewers anywhere or anytime with Chroma Key, also known as green screen remover technology. This game-changing method has redefined the film industry by producing impressive visual effects and smoothly blending subjects into a range of backgrounds. Let’s unravel the incredible world of Chroma Keying — including its definition, how it works, and tips for harnessing this technique to level up your projects.
Finding Out About Chroma Key: Revealing the Art
It is a kind of visual effects (VFX) wizardry that allows creators to eliminate a specific color from an image or video, turning it transparent. This invisible section can then be substituted with another scene, background or clip — all creating imaginary scenarios for your characters. What sets Chroma Keying apart is its capacity to proficiently isolate and remove the selected color, turning the procedure into a portal of endless creative opportunities.
Blue and green are often chosen colors for Chroma Keying. Wonder why? Because these hues rarely appear in normal human skin tones or hair colors. Therefore, it becomes easier for video editing software to tell between subjects and backgrounds. As a result, green screens along with blue screens have turned into essential components in the Chroma Keying process.
Understanding Inner Functions of Chroma Keying
The magic of it goes way beyond the glam world of Hollywood; anyone with a camera and a dose of creativity can harness it. Here’s the basic process of Chroma Keying:
· Background Setup: First, you install a green screen (or alternatively, a blue screen) as the backdrop for your video recording. You need to ensure that the screen is evenly lightened and devoid of any defects which might lead to unwanted shadows, complicating the Chroma Key after effects process.
· Subject Placement: Position your subjects, performers, or actors in front of the green screen. Be careful not to have them wear outfits in the same color as the background to avoid unintended transparency.
· Camera and Lighting: Achieving ideal lighting conditions is paramount for successful Chroma Keying. The green screen needs to be equally and brightly lit to allow easy removal of the background color.
· Video Capture: Proceed to record your video with the subjects placed before the green screen. This is where everything happens, as your chosen backdrop color (green or blue) gets replaced with your preferred image during the later post-production phase.
Essential Tools: Leveraging Video Editing Software for Maximum Results
Your primary tool for after effects Keying would be video editing software. During post-production, you experience all aspects of Chroma Keying charm, with software playing a crucial role. For example, Adobe Premiere Pro offers “Ultra Key,” a powerful tool that has revolutionized Chroma Key methods. Let’s checkout how it works:
· Footage Import: Start by importing your video clips into Adobe Premiere Pro.
· Application of Ultra Key Effect: Look for the Ultra Key effect in your software’s effect panel and apply it to your particular video.
· Color Selection: Once you integrate the Ultra Key effect, you can choose a color. Use the color picker to point out the exact green or blue shade used in your video’s background.
· Refinement: Adjust the settings to get the best results. This might include modifying transparency, spill suppression, and other parameters that erase any residual background colors.
Performing these steps will pave the way to easy substitution of your green or blue backdrop with your desired image creating outstanding visual effects and captivating the audience with varied amazing locations.
The Creative Potential: Chroma Keying’s Power
The creative possibilities intrinsic to it go beyond merely replacing backgrounds. They mirror a filmmaker’s creativity who approves of its capabilities. Here are some creative ways to use Chroma Keying:
· Fantasy World Creation: Fantasy movie directors film actors against green screens and incorporate remarkable imagery of alien planets, heavenly realms or weird landscapes as backdrops.
· Adding Realism: In character-driven dramas, greenscreen after effects are commonly used outside windows to integrate city skylines, immersing the audience within a towering apartment ambience.
· Safely Adding Special Effects: Through Chroma Keying, risky special effects can be included without compromising actor safety. Explosions, daring stunts and other sensational scenes can be filmed against green screens and flawlessly integrated into the finished production.
· Eliminating Unwanted Visual Entities: Chroma Keying also serves to clear away safety gear and protective equipment from action sequences. Harnesses and other protective equipment can be made see-through, ensuring the primary focus remains on the actual action scenes.
Tips for Mastering Chroma Keying
To be a true Chroma Keying champion, attention to detail is extremely important. Although it’s a reservoir of creative supplies, working towards a seamless professional output should be the ultimate aim. Here are some key pointers to best utilize your green screen:
· Use Adequate Screen: The green screen should be big enough to cover all the background eliminating the need for time-consuming masking.
· Even and Flaw-free Lighting: Appropriate lighting is crucial for successful Chroma Keying. Illuminate the green screen uniformly to prevent shadows and maintain steady coloring.
· Avoid Color Spill: Be particular about green light reflecting onto your subjects potentially leading to unwanted color spillage. Software tools like “Spill Suppression” in Adobe Premiere Pro can help in resolving this issue.
· Mutually Experiment with Colors: Green and blue are not your sole options for Chroma Keying — any solid color will work. However, take care not to overlap colors with your subjects.
The Takeaway
Chroma Keying is a versatile and budget-friendly cinematography trick that has changed our film viewing experience. Whether it’s about virtually traveling to distant panorama or adding authenticity to a scene, Chroma Keying is as limit-free as your own imagination.
With the right tools, lighting expertise and creative genius, you can fully exploit the potentials of Chroma Keying to liberate your movie-making inputs. Regardless if you’re a pro or an aspirant filmmaker, Chroma Keying presents unlimited creative possibilities in your projects.
Grab your camera, set up your green screen and get started on your thrilling voyage into Chroma Keying. Also, if you’re looking for chroma key green screen services, consider checking out Motion Effects.

It was a good thing Harleep had the intuition to quickly guide her away from Raphael, because she was seconds from leaping and going absolutely ape shit on his ass.
She wasn't pouting about the loss though. Definitely not. She wasn't that petty. Yes she was.
" I don't give a shit if he's the son of the god of the universe, I think he needs a good punch in the face - " she growled as she was practically dragged to the portal room, the door shut hastily behind them.
" And clearly he's easy to please - a little touch from you was all it took to make him give in, what a pussy - "
She should probably shut the fuck up, but she was angry and had nowhere to vent it. She wasn't good at keeping her emotions in check. Neither was she sure if that was the hells in her, or the cursed monster she was born as, a beast that wanted to conquer and rip into everything.
Probably a fresh combination of both.
Raphael's nose scrunched as the dog began barking loudly. It was as if they were trying to say something... though it was entirely lost in a mouthful of unpleasantness, which only caused disruption in the order of his house.
"My dear, a muzzle may be best suited for such a vile creature," he commented with a wave of his hand. "As entertaining as you are, little pup, you are a guest in this House of Hope. Before you turn yourself into a creature you may be unable to control, I would suggest taking a few careful breaths before you do something that we may all regret." He would hate to bloody the carpets.
Raphael was insightful enough to know that the woman before him was a werewolf. Much like he could not escape the scent of the Hells that lingered on him, she could not with her wet dog stench.
Haarlep placed his hand to Katya's shoulder to keep her from attacking the master of the house. Raphael would have her neck snapped in a heartbeat if he wanted, and Haarlep still found her entertaining enough to want to keep.
He stepped forward, shoving Katya behind him. "Dear, I promise when we get back, I will make it worth your while. Let us pass, and I will bring you back something special from the markets." His voice was all charm and promises of seduction, and he reached out to drag his claws down Raphael's jawline.
When Raphael did not bite back, he knew he had won, and patted the man on his chest.
"A couple of hours. No more. Is that understood?" Damned incubus...
Haarlep perked up and wiggled himself happily. "I promise." He gently pushed Katya's back and made her walk to the portal room, closing the door behind them. When the door was closed, he looked down at her. "As feisty as you are, tiefling, Raphael can be one of two things. Your greatest friend, or your worst enemy. It would be wise to watch your tongue. He is no mere cambion. He is the son of Mephistopheles."
