Can we stop acting like dazai was the devil. Like yes he did bad things but he was a child. He was 15 alone and in the mafia where althe was told to do was bad things. ALL dazai knew how to do is lie and deceive because it what he's always had to do.it's self preservation. Like??? When will people realize dazai wasn't a monster and was justa child brought up in an Unsafe and abusive environment. Behaviors are learned your aren't born with them. Dazai was a suicidal child just trying to survive all'he knew was manipulation and Iying because that's all he was taught. He abused akutagawa because that's all he was taught. And as he got older it's all he knows how to do. Obviously he's gotten better but he's still morally grey. And that's ok but it's not enough to call him a monster. hes trying so so hard to change, and even if he may not realise it or cling guiltily to his past, the entire prison arc shows how much effort hes put in to become a better person it isnt easy, growing up exposed to death/violence resulting in empathy and apathy issues, all while battling an emptiness inside thats slowly eating up ones will to live. hes genuinely trying to recover from that period of his life, and i cannot express how proud i am solely because of that. hes finally found a healthy environment, a family, and he deserves it along with so much more. he may be deemed as a “monster“ in the past, that cannot be erased, but he hates that part about himself too. being in the good or bad used to make no difference to him, but i strongly believe it does hate that part of him.  Dazai slander are fún and everything - BUT people seem to not get his character right. No, he's not an edgy boy. He genuinely wants to change for the best to make Oda proud, 'BUT HE ABUSED AKUTAGAWA’ , yeah, Akutagawa abused Kyoka and nobody is talking about how its litterally GENERATIONAL TRAUMA. Dazal was never raised correctly, he got raised by Mori and used by him to make him his right hand, maybe because of his ability, or he saw potential in him. He never fell parental Love nor being special to Someone except for Oda. "He LEFT Chuuya!!!“ ok and? Chuuya doesn't need him to live: Dazai LITTERALLY SAW PEOPLE GETTING KILLED/KILLING THEM ON THE DAILEY (AND HE WITNISSED ODAS DEATH - THE ONLY PERSON THAT MADE HIM WANT TO CHANGE.) his eyes at the age of 14, and Mori made him live in a shipping container. Obviously he is not gonna feel human after all this.
And about him and chuuya - the thing is they DO CARE ABOUT EACHOTHER. but nobody seems to care about chuuya other than the fact hes hot asf anf the fact that he is ’super mega gay for dazai 🥺🥺🥺’ because are we reading/watching the same series???? There’s SO MUCH to his character too!!!! But all everyone talks about with him is with dazai, chuuyas character is CRAZY WELL WRITTEN and everyone dumbs it down to ‘he’s an angry short boy with a god inside him and he’s mega gay for dazai and he’s also really hot’ like no - stfu he’s not actually super hot headed and it’s CANNON he’s usually pretty calm and collected. On the other side of the coin is that dazai DOES care about him - in Stormbringer ; Dazai literally willing gave Chuuya an option to either use corruption on Verlaine when he used his true form or to retreat and not do it, which gave a sense of Dazai giving Chuuya the choice to do what he wants without forcing him to, and the fact that when Chuuya used corruption, he was being injured badly to the point where Abahabaki was going to destroy Chuuya which FREAKED DAZAI OUT , and the fact that Dazai certainly believes that Chuuya is human shows that Dazai does care about Chuuya in certain ways without showing due to afraid of losing someone he cares about. and In age 15 Dazai, was willing to help Chuuya to find Abahabaki and defeat Rimbaud, along with stormbringer with him helping Chuuya to find out if he's human or not and to defeat Verlaine.
Ty for reading my rant 💞💞💞💞
i can't tell if this is attacking me or just a rant in general but anyway YESSSSS I 100% AGREE YOU ATE W THAT ANALYSIS BRIAR‼️‼️

I'm sorry, but the leader of the LoV was Shimura Tenko. That's the whole point. Wanting to be a hero for the outcast was the part of him that persevered since his childhood despite the grooming. I don't get why people are treating the whole name thing similar to deadnaming or something, because it was a name given to him by his abuser for a character he was creating. Real people vs. their "characters"/alter egos is one of the prominent themes of the story. Any deviation from the character comes from Shimura Tenko, the real person behind the alter ego. Shigaraki Tomura is a "character" the same way All Might, Symbol of Peace, is. He is the Symbol of Fear. It's objectively a bad thing that he was still stuck as that Symbol in the end. Reclaiming the character doesn't work as a positive thing here. It's good that Deku was focused on Tenko, the problem was that he should've seen that Tomura is Tenko too. Instead he didn't engage with anything that had to do with Tomura.
Reading helped me understand why people would prefer the Tenko version, as much as it made me realize how much I disagree with that reading.
( Not necessarily a thi-or-that-is-correct situation. The way I see it, it's just a difference in both our interpretations of the story ).
You mention only one example, but it's you go to other characters for comparison, you're gonna find another themes:
Theme 1:
alter the egos as the real selves— or at least, alter egos revealing traits of the real selves that could not be because of prejudices.
Theme 2:
reshaping / reclaiming a stereotype beyond what others might believe or think of it.
Best example? Deku.
Originally, "Deku" was a mean name for Bakugo to make fun of this weak quirkless kid. It's with the help of Ochako that Izuku reshapes Deku into a new meaning and reclaims it as his hero name. He is not hiding behind it, tho. Deku is the version of Izuku wants to be— brave, heroic, strong.
When the UA kids tell their pro-hero names, they are shaping their future and themselves. Beyond the circumstances, they are deciding who they want to be. Another example of it are "Shoto" and "Ingenium". Shoto takes back his identity as a Todoroki as something to be proud of, while Iida decides he will continue the legacy of his brother.
None of those names mean something bad per se. They are not fake realities. Those names are what helped those kids be more confident and sure about themselves.
Now, the Symbol of Peace is that bad not 'cause it was bad from the beginning.
Toshinori was right at first. Society needed a real reason to believe everything would be okay. They needed an example, a champion. If someone does the impossible, then it's not so impossible, right?
The problem with that name is that people used it as an excuse to ignore individual responsibility.
" Why would I save a child when it's not my job and there are heroes who can do it? "
" Everything bad happens because pro-heroes couldn't prevent it and not because we ignored it out of apathy until it got this bad. "
Those type of things.
The "Symbol of Peace" was destroying Toshinori and the hero society because Yagi lost control over it. It didn't belong to him anymore, it was a myth, a public figure. It wasn't even him.
All Might was created when an insane quirkless kid proved the world wrong getting a quirk and facing the biggest threat out there.
Toshinori Yagi will always be All Might and that is something good. That means hope. That means he doesn't need powers to be dangerous, just like he demonstrated on the final war.
Now, I must mention that the pro-heroes naming convention is nothing like Tomura Shigaraki's situation inside the bnha world. It shares some of the dual identities themes of the story, but when you explain the circumstances, it clicks.
Tomura Shigaraki might have been created by AFO, but to say that the identity belongs to AFO alone because he created it would mean to deny the 15 years Tomura spent living as himself, no memories of who Tenko was.
In fact, Tenko and Tomura both share the fact that they were created by an oppressive person or household that tried their best to shape him as they wanted. The only moment in bnha where Tenko / Tomura decided who he wanted to be was when he chose to keep being the leader of the League of Villains.
By the way, AFO was the Symbol of Fear and they started calling Tomura that because he was going to become AFO's new vessel. He didn't want to be the Symbol of Fear at the end, but the leader of the LOV. When he asks Deku to tell Spinner his last words, he calls himself Tomura Shigaraki and not Tenko Shimura.
The final part of your asks is something I agree with. Deku was so focused on seeing past the mask that he didn't realize part of it was not a mask at all.
Well, let me correct myself.
Deku saw it and couldn't forgive him. Deku saw it and felt unsure about whether he actually saved him or not. Deku stood there, watched everything unfold and couldn't decide if the job had been done. All Might had to reassure him in that regard and we all know how wrong Toshinori constantly is about Tomura.
In a sense, I guess you can affirm that Tomura is Tenko or that Tenko is Tomura. It's more a matter of preference or interpretation what do you want to call him from here on (so far).

Heavy headcannon time with a bunch of songs because I realised that a lot of songs from marina work very well for both og cale and our cale WAIT LET ME COOK
the gremlin in my brain craves angst as sustenance so no happy songs :(
OK Are you Satisfied? For og!Cale like the beginning itself "am I supposed to be happy that my life was just about to change?" LIKE THE DEAL WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO JUST BANK ON SOME RANDOM GUY TO MAYBE SAVE THE WORLD MIGHT HIGHKEY DESTROY IT OR RUIN YOUR REPUTATION LIKE THAT DEAL WAS THE LAST POSSIBLE RESORT and the rest of song is just sad but like I said headcannon ANGST
a close parallel for our cale is Oh No! Cause it really highlights how I think of him? Like slacking or protecting his family comes first, his "success" and nothing else and like people calling him emotionless ( I was ready to throw HANDS at them btw) and the song vibes also kinda fit
SEVENTEEN for both but more og cale cause like the switch happened when he was around 18 right practically 17 (do you see the delusion) BUT my main thing here is "the rise of a king and the fall of a queen" BUCKLE UP IM INSERTING FEELINGS THAT WERE NEVER MENTIONED I think that og cale would be really happy for our cale like at least one person got a better life but I don't really think he enjoys his current life as much? AND WAIT BEFORE YOU KILL ME I don't think he's gonna live for a long time (constant danger, self sacrificial and the already numerous scars) he only has his niece which is a reincarnation of his mother but he can't tell her that?? And the teammates might be close but they all seem not as close as our og cale's family ( AND THERE ARE VERY COOL OG CALE TEAMMATES FICS OUT THERE THAT SHOW IT VERY DIFFERENTLY AND I LOVE THEM AND THE AUTHORS but ANGST) so there might just be teeniest bit of hopelessness because the whole reason he was fighting for is like gone and he knows his dimension is being taken care of so maybe he feels like living just to protect his teammates and pay back our cale. BUT I DIGRESS, it was the rise of our cale but the fall of og cale (have you seen that one tiktok of like no one cared about cale until it was krs! Cale it got me kicking screaming crying-) SO YES JUST THE GENERAL FEELING OF IM HAPPY ONE OF US IS GOING TO LIVE LONG WITH OUR FAMILY BECAUSE OUR CALE ALSO GETS REUNITED WITH CJS AND LSH (so happy for him tho) and I can do a whole spiel on like the very happy apathy I think I see in the side chapters that support this but this is too long so thanks for reading and feel free to suggest more songs or your own takes :)

I got a break from work so I’m gonna write this.
Hi, I was the anon that wrote about dimidue and emblaskr (guess that’s the ship name) earlier and the problematic biases underlining both (moreso with Askr and Embla).
Also, I absolutely do not hate Askr, he’s my favorite character, but I did want to hide my identity in that previous take as much as possible since Embla’s a pretty popular character. But it was cowardly of me. The rest of this post is going to elaborate on why Emblaskr is problematic and reflects racist trends in the media.
If Embla truly loved Askr, she would have never tried to hurt him so gravely. Invading his kingdom, trying to kill everyone he holds dear…that isn’t love. That’s obsession, jealousy, selfishness. When he died, I believe it was less that she cared about him, but more that she lost the chance to have someone unfailingly caring about her again. It’s a matter of possession and satisfaction. She can’t have Askr. When she dies she calls out his name, but again that reinforces not her love for him, but her desire to not be alone. It is inherently selfish because even as she dies she thinks only of how she is affected. She laments being alone, not how she cares about Askr. If she cared about him, would she have ever tried to commit such terrible acts of violence and hatred against him? Never in the story do we see her atone, see her feel guilt.
Embla is all about control. Controlling her people, controlling those that go to Askr, controlling Askr even. Because she doesn’t want him to be happier than her. She wants him at her level.
TV Tropes has an article called the Black Best Friend. Askr isn’t confirmed as black, but he is a poc character, and this trope can affect non-black poc as well. The details of this trope are quite similar to how Askr is. For the sake of length I’ll only go through a few.
Askr “is used simply as a means to make the white character look better.“ Without him, Embla would never have received her Freudian excuse. She would have been the equivalent of Surtr without Askr’s existence.
Askr is “flawless to the point of being unreal.“ He is unimaginably perfect. He has no flaws, no deep seated issues to speak of. One can argue he may not have been a good listener to Embla in their flashback, but the problem is that this isn’t an issue that is talked about or delved into. He is also a bit oblivious, but again, this is ignored. It would have been great if Bruno called Askr out for his ignorance and seeming apathy, but it doesn’t happen. What about how he and his sister suffered due to Embla’s bitterness? I would have loved Bruno calling Askr out for trying to paint a sympathetic picture of Embla in front of him, since his life was ruined by and ultimately taken by her later on. And I would have loved if Askr reflected on that, apologized, and realized that he himself does not deserve to be the long-suffering supporter of a woman who hates him and wants to destroy everything and everyone he loves. But this doesn’t happen, and Askr is glossed over to be genetically perfect. We can brush him aside so we can focus on more of Embla. This isn’t good treatment of Askr. Actively ignoring facets of his character to make him bland and generic compared to the “deep” and “complex” Embla is just a symptom of racism, in trying to make sure he doesn’t overshadow her.
Askr “revolves almost entirely around a white character.” (Found in the laconic tab). As before, he is merely focused on the white Embla. He should have been a prominent character on his own, but he is instead quickly killed off (see another familiar trope on the website, Black Dude Dies First). Askr is the first prominent casualty of the book on top of having less screen time than any of the other ocs. We even see Letizia more than him, alive at least. The following times he shows up is in her memories. He provides even more development and focus for Embla!
Askr only exists to uplift the Embla, to carry her trauma and help her process it, and to no benefit of his own. She belittles him, threatens violence against him, and it’s seen as…romantic? The white female character actively engaging in war viciously attacking him and emotionally abusing him is…romantic? If this was a relationship that existed in real life, Askr would be considered a victim of abuse. And there are relationships like this in real life, sadly enough. Embla is capable of her actions and I’m sick of seeing her woobiefied by parts of the fan base. And it is her own fault that she refuses to see past her flaws. She is long past being a victim. It is not Askr’s job to handle her emotional maturity and make her better. Embla is trying to, once again, COMMIT GENOCIDE. Against HIS people! He absolutely does not need to show her kindness, nor does he need to coddle her when HE is the victim! And the audacity to imply that Askr gaining independence and being strong enough to advocate for his worth and safety is “selfish”? (Speaking to the anon whose take was a response to mine). That is wrong on so many levels.
Most of the time, nonwhite characters in media have to be paragons to be even remotely palatable to the fan base. But white characters (most often men, but sometimes women) are often given more excuses for their actions. They can be war criminals. They can be violent and petty and make mistakes. And it is absolutely problematic to DEMAND Askr be there for Embla at all times at the expense of his own mental health. What about his suffering? His pain of being cast aside? The stress he must feel over having to be perfect because if he makes ONE mistake, she snaps? Because that’s what happened! One little misunderstanding and she was lost to her own wickedness. That is frightening to think about, and shows she really was never good. She just had the privilege of being surrounded by goodness and allowed to hide in its light. It is unbelievably disgusting and unrealistic to expect someone to be unfailingly devoted as they are repeatedly broken down by someone who supposedly “loves” them.

It is just another boring Tuesday. T-Mart, the only convenience store in the whole two-mile radius, is empty at this time of the day where the sun is at its highest and almost everyone is at work. There are no customers, only the three workers loitering in boredom, waiting for the shift to finish. Murder is flipping through a tabloid magazine, Horror is manning the register, and Killer is doing her nails – all of them periodically glancing at the clock to see when they will be released from this hell.
“huh, have you heard the new scandal of dream yet?” Murder asks out of the blue, breaking the stale silence among them.
“dream… like our ceo’s brother? that dream?” Horror perks up.
“yeah,” Murder says, her mouth curved into a devious smirk. “apparently she got caught sneaking out of the hotel with ink. you know… the famous musician.”
“wait, isn’t ink married? to that wwe performer – crux or something?”
“cross, yeah. here, look at this.” Murder flips the magazine to show Horror the salacious photo: Dream in a trench coat and Ink in an oversize hoodie, both looking like deers caught in the headlights.
Killer snorts from across Horror, which is as close to a laughter as she gets. “that is the least stealthy thing i’ve ever seen. trench coat and sunglasses? that’s one face mask away from announcing to the world that you’re doing something you shouldn’t be doing.”
Murder smirks back. “apparently her publicist is saying this is a business meeting.”
“at 2 am?” Killer grins, propping her chin on her hand. “they should’ve met in broad daylight. no one suspects shady business at brunch time.”
“they’d get caught anyway,” Horror muses. “the universe really loves to create chaos.”
Yep, just another regular Tuesday.
Until the wall explodes.
“oh, come on,” Horror groans, ducking under the register as chunks of drywall fly all over the place.
Through the dust strides a figure in a long black coat, slightly floating off the ground. A web of strings shoots from the figure, quickly covering the whole area with glitching patterns and noises of a dying Wi-Fi modem. The air hums with electricity as the apparent villain points at the three unfortunate minimum wage workers.
“fear me, you abominations – for i am error the destroyer! surrender your worthless lives to me, or face your deletion off this world!” The villain proclaims, her voice crackling like a compressed MP3 file.
The trio exchange unimpressed glances.
“seriously?” Horror raises an eye ridge at Error. “that’s your line? that’s so corny. where did you get that from? straight-to-dvd trash bin?”
Error’s fingers glow ominously. “do not dare to underestimate me, you-”
Murder interrupts whatever is about to come out of the villain’s mouth. “oh, we’re shaking in our boots,” she deadpans, glaring at the destroyed wall with a twitch in her eye. “every week there’s a new evil overlord wannabe around these parts. blah blah world domination blah blah you’re gonna be my minions – we get it already. take the cash. or burn the place down. we’re not getting paid enough for this.”
“keys are under the fire alarm box,” Killer chimes in. “just don’t take the slushie machine though – it’s the only thing keeping us alive here.”
Error’s face glitches. She clearly doesn’t expect this level of apathy from her soon-to-be hostages. “insolent worms! you will submit!” she screeches.
“big words for someone who looks like a tiktok filter,” Killer quips, now holding a boxcutter and spinning it in her hands. “also, that’s just a horrendous costume. Where did you get it? The bargain bin?”
“how dare you- this is a custom design!”
“yeah, it shows.” Killer tilts her head, grinning. “and not in a good way.”
“well,” Horror says to the side, squinting at her phone. “according to chirper updates, the starlights should be here in three minutes. so if you’re gonna finish your monologue, you should probably do it now before they haul your ass to who-knows-where.”
Error splutters, her glitches spreading to the rest of her body as she’s incandescent with rage. “you- all of you insolent freaks! you will regret this!”
“not more than this job, i wager,” Murder says, her voice bored. “you know, if you want to be an evil nuisance, you can just go to business school. like our blood-sucking ceo.”
Error looks like she might implode on the spot. “you can’t just- you can’t-”
“aww, what’s the matter, glitchy?” Killer drawls. “the school of evil didn’t teach you how to deal with a little bit of criticism?”
Before Error can say anything in response, another wall explodes, showering people with even more debris.
“STOP RIGHT THERE, ERROR!!” a chorus of voices exclaim. The local magical girl squad – the Starlights – have arrived in all the pastel and frilly glory, posing dramatically in the rubble. There’s Solar, the leader of the group holding a bow in her hands. Prism, who brandishes a giant calligraphy brush. And Aqua, who wields two billy clubs. Any villain would hate to cross their paths, and Error isn’t an exception.
The customer service trio quickly hides somewhere when the fight starts, but still peeks in to see what’s happening. The Starlights launch into their usual spiel about love, righteousness, and protecting the innocent, while Error’s glitching presence seems to falter even more. Murder leans toward Killer.
“10g saying that villain will break in five minutes because of the speeches instead of the fighting.”
“pfft, should be three minutes max.” Killer counters.
Three minutes later, Error is wrapped in sparkly ribbons, courtesy of the Starlights, and hauled away as the squad strikes yet another triumphant pose. The day is saved, but the store is probably not. The workers exchange another look with each other.
“thanks for cleaning up the mess,” Horror calls out sarcastically as the magical girls prance out of the store through the hole they created. “urgh, can we go home now?” she asks, slumping even further onto the counter.
“nope. still got four hours left,” Murder replies, uncaring as she picks up the discarded magazine and continues reading it.
Killer sighs, flipping the boxcutter back into her pocket. “i’m gonna break the slushie machine.”
“do it,” Horror says, completely deadpan, her eye staring straight at Killer. “i dare you.”
Just another Tuesday.
YAYAYAYAYA I BREEEZED OVER IT I GOTTA REALLY READ IT BUT ITS SO FUNNY. The way they're so nonchalant is the funniest thing ever, they're just trying to survive their shift bruh 💔

I feel like Killer often had to act dumber than Nightmare around him. I just know that Nightmare is the kind of guy who wouldn't take kindly to not being the smartest person in the room at any given time. It mostly stems from his own childhood traumas (I'm sure that the fact that nothing he ever did was good enough to make him deserving of not getting abused stuck with him post corruption), but to me he's a walking inferiority complex.
And the thing is that Nightmare isn't stupid. He's a very studious person and he probably retains a lot of the stuff he reads about. But Killer is undoubtedly more observant and logical than he is. I feel like he probably picks up on stuff much quicker (even though he also probably forgets a lot of it just as quickly because of his memory issues).
And, well, I saw a couple of comics of them playing chess and Killer winning every time. And I do think that, realistically, if he played at full capacity every time, he would win against Nightmare. Chess is a game that rewards his kind of smarts so much more than Nightmare's.
But I also think he'd know not to win most of the time (unless his purpose is to piss off Nightmare that day). But, here's the kicker. I think it would be just as humiliating for Nightmare if Killer dominated the entire game only to make some very obviously porpuseful fumbles at the end. Of course, Nightmare could call him out on it, but then he'd need to admit that he would have lost had Killer not thrown the game. And he's not gonna fucking do that. Not when they both already know and Killer is staring unblinkingly at him, challenging him to say something, to admit defeat.
No, he's gonna take that fake victory and he's gonna massage his bruised ego with it. Denial is always a powerful shield.
Yeah absolutely. Killer knows how to stroke people’s egos and notice their insecurities, he will use both against someone for his own benefit. He knows he needs to walk a fine line with people like Nightmare and Chara—those that tend to have huge egos, that are also very fragile. Those whose first instincts are to lash out, and in Chara’s case, throw violent tantrums.
It’s like managing the moods of very explosive, highly dangerous bombs. It’s just that sometimes Killer can’t resist playing a little careless, in a calculated way. He is not above putting himself in huge danger and playing with his life just to gain momentarily pleasure in pissing them off, or to provoke them into hurting him just to alleviate his soul crushing apathy and boredom in controlled bursts.
Like micro-dosing on a drug that is pain, or simply because he knows (or thinks) it is inevitable that they will hurt him today, so he will provoke them earlier and take away their satisfaction in hurting him by taking away their control and bruising their egos.
Let Chara think he loves them. Let Nightmare think he’s stupid and blindly loyal. Those are the things he knows to maintain control over them. On the flip side, a way to keep Killer under control (particularly Stage 2), is to let him think he has more control than he actually does.
Imagine how powerless Nightmare could make him feel if he were to say, find a way to destroy any pleasure and satisfaction Killer gets out of pain. If he takes away the framing of torture, punishment, and pain as “fun” and “playing” in Killer’s mind.
I wouldn’t be suprised if Killer finds a sense of pride in his ability to not only endure but enjoy vast amounts of suffering—especially if he ever got some form of validation or approval for it. He views it as him still having power and control even as he is being “dominated”—because he can say that he enjoys it and therefore it means nothing and has no genuine impact on him beyond the satisfaction and pleasure.
People being unnerved and annoyed when you laugh in their face after they’ve broken your bones just means that Killer still has control over their emotions.
Yet another way he is views himself as sort of, above others. Not in the self loving ego stroking way, but still in a superior, ‘I’m above you, so don’t try me’ way. He’d likely look down on anyone who runs from or hates pain— or anyone who obviously lets it show. Viewing them as inferior and weak.
If Nightmare can take that away, then pain is just pain. Potentially sending Stage 2 deeper into his apathetic, nihilistic, fatalistic worldview—“just get it over with if you aren’t going to make it fun.”
Which is probably the reason why physical punishment wouldn’t work on Stage 2 at all—not until you can take away his sense of control in these situations—psychological stuff like isolation and sensory deprivation certainly would.
I feel like another way would be to greyrock him whenever he tries to provoke someone into violence and hurting him—not giving him the reaction he expects and craves. Which would either make him quickly lose interest, or motivate him to keep escalating until he gets what he wants.
Killer has definitely greyrocked Chara and Nightmare before as well— refusing to give them any type of satisfaction or control over him by not giving any response or reaction they want from him. And sometimes giving the exact opposite of a reaction or response that they want.
All in all, I can definitely see Killer underplaying himself and his own abilities to satisfy others egos and play into expectations if it benefits him or avoids inconvenience. And he’d definitely use their egos to lure them into little mind games and traps—like the one you described.

So I've been listening to a lot of music from my childhood recently, and that inevitably lead me to listening to The Pillows, a great Japanese Alt Rock Band that was pretty big in the late 90s, early 2000s (iirc.) They produced most of, if not the entire OST of cult classic anime FOOLY COOLY or FLCL.
FLCL is, in my opinion, an anime everyone should watch at least once, and imo it's a very good litmus test for whether or not a person has any kind of media literacy and is able to pick out themes and stuff.
I say all this as basically the long way of saying I listened to a song I really liked when I was younger that was also part of the OST of an Anime I really liked when I was younger and so I watched it all over again today, and now I'm gonna make it your problem.
So anyone with any kind of media literacy can tell you that the major theme of FLCL is growing up, and anyone with decent media literacy can tell you that on the flipside the actual theme of FLCL is "The most immature thing you can do is grow up too fast." With a secondary theme being "Adults will use maturity to manipulate you."
But what if I told you there's a secret, third theme, and it actually changes who the main character of the show is, and it's stated in the opening scene of the first episode, with the REAL main character?
So the show opens on Naota and Samemija Mamimi, immediately establishing Naota and Mamimi's very codependent relationship, with Naota using Mamimi to feel more mature than he actually is, and Mamimi using Naota as a rebound and stand in for his older brother Tasuku, who moved to America to pursue a career in Baseball, which has burned both Naota and Mamimi in different ways.
This is also the establishing shot for the actual theme of the show. In a voice over, Naota explains that nothing amazing ever happens in the town of Mabase, directly after Mamimi explains to him that if she were ever to "Overflow" something amazing would probably happen.
Naota's claims of nothing amazing ever happening in Mabase are, of course, undercut by the antics of the entirety of FLCL, but, as an itty bitty Egg living in a small, nowhere town in Kansas USA, and even later, as a Trans Woman, in a different, but still very much the same Small, Nowhere Town in Kansas USA, the specific type of Ennui Naota feels is well known to those who live in Small, Nowhere towns across the globe.
It's the kind of apathy that lives and thrives in small communities that revile change. It is, in its truest form, Stagnation, and it is what FLCL is really about. Stagnation is the Enemy of Maturity. And that is why Mamimi is the true protagonist of FLCL.
Mamimi has the most to gain from holding onto the past, the most to gain from nothing ever changing. And she fights against it with all her strength, to the point that she'd rather die (or have the world destroyed) than have them change. When Naota manages to "Swing The Bat" and stop the bomb heading for Mabase, she's disappointed, showing that she's tired of the life she's got, but not so much yet that she's willing to take her life herself.
Mamimi yearns for Stagnation. Yearns for the past, when things were better. We never see what Mamimi's home life is like, to the point that there is no credible evidence as to whether or not she's homeless. What we do know is that she's incredibly poor, bullied, and alone, and for at least some of that, it didn't used to be that way. She used to have Tasuku, or Ta-kun, she used to not be bullied, she may have even had a good relationship with her parents, or a home to go to.
But things keep changing. Tasuku left, people look down on her, Naota is maturing, meanwhile she's stuck in the past, and is fighting to stay there...until she can't anymore. Naota is no longer satisfied with being a stand-in for his older brother, she's going to need a job to support herself, and Tasuku isn't coming back.
Through out all of this, there is a theme of Mamimi taking pictures, hinting that even she, in fact, has dreams of the future. Which does culminate in the ending, of Mamimi leaving Mabase to become a Photographer, her picture of Naota holding Haruko's Rickenbacker 4001 is even seen in the magazine the anime is named after, Fooly Coolly.
Mamimi is the secret protagonist of FLCL because she embodies the secret theme of the show, that Stagnation, never growing beyond the fence posts of your backyard, is truly the enemy of Maturity. Throughout the show, all the children spend their time trying to be more mature than they are, while Mamimi is seen as having never matured despite actually, secretly, being more mature than all of them, but wishing she didn't have to be. Throughout the show, she is abandoned, belittled, and bullied, and it isn't until the very end of the show that she breaks, feeding the technology of all the people who wronged her to Core Ta-kun. Even trying to stop Core Ta-kun from eating the truck of the Friend Trio because they didn't do anything to her. Then she escapes. She breaks the confines of Mabase, and goes on to become a Photographer. Was she successful? Was she happy? We'll likely never know, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is she broke free.

thinking about sirius entering grimmauld place, abandoned, horrible, cold, another prison in his torn and paper-thin prison robes, unearthing a wand from somewhere in the house, and just thinking. fuck. i need some decent clothing. but his own wardrobe has been ransacked, and regulus’ robes are all too short, and he’s not gonna wear anything his mother would’ve worn and so. what options does he even have at this point?
he leads buckbeak into his mother’s bedroom and lets the hippogriff go wild in destroying everything within it, then leaves for the master’s suite. kreacher is following him, cursing at his ankles and deftly avoiding every swift kick sirius sends his way, snarling and grumbling as sirius sifts through the wardrobe of a man he still hates after all this time. he never had the chance to develop apathy. the closet holds a variety of beautiful, functional fabrics that smell of dust and a bit of rot; linen shirts and coats of firm, double-lined velvet, woollen trousers and barely-worn boots made of expensive dragonhide, thick outer robes all a decade or two out of date.
he takes the most muggle-looking set in the collection and leaves for the nearest bathroom. washes himself to the best of his ability—he’s got half a mind to stay unwashed out of sheer spite, but the ones who the spite would be aimed towards wouldn’t care are dead, so what purpose would that serve? the water sputters rust-coloured and smelly out of the creaking taps, so he cleans the bathtub with a scourgify and then fills it with an aguamenti; the soap is probably expired, but it lathers well enough. body first, layers of filth falling off his skin and darkening the water, then his hair, long and matted with blood and sweat and sand. the water is a muddy brown by the time he vanishes it and refills the bathtub again. it takes at least two more full-body washes before the water stays clear and his skin doesn’t feel like it’s covered in a film of oil.
he cuts the bulk of his hair somewhat blindly, uncaring if the severing spell nicks his skin. it may be clean, but it’s beyond saving: a thick mat hangs particularly heavy at the nape of his neck, soaking wet, and locks of his hair cluster together in unsightly, tangled clumps. it’s a representation of his lack of control in his own life. it hurts. it’s off. molly will probably help him cut it into something resembling decent later, when she and her family arrive.
sirius, truly clean for the first time in thirteen years, shakes out the clothing his father may have used for his rare trips into the muggle parts of the continent and wrinkles his nose. cleans them with a refreshment charm; a cloud of dust and dead insects rise up out of the fabrics, coalescing into a tiny ball of dirt. putting the clothing on his body is easier than he expected and there’s a hint of muscle memory as he does up the buttons, fastens the waistband.
the clothes smell, in spite of the refreshment charm, still like the stench of rot that permeates the entirety of number twelve. they also smell vaguely of a familiar cologne, of burnt pipe tobacco, of alcohol. they smell like disappointed speeches and expressionless faces. they smell of dispensable memories.
sirius takes one look at himself in the dirty mirror and sees dead eyes and a bitter, arrogant tilt to his mouth and grooves of worry and discontent in his face someone he doesn’t want to see. someone who’s been dead for fifteen years. and he goes off in search of something to numb himself with.

Do you have any thoughts on Pursuance Meursault? His rejection of faith was pretty important in the book so him having this EGO sticks out a whole lot
So, I'm just gonna preface this by saying I Have Not Read the Stranger. That being said, I'll give it my best shot anyway.
Under the cut now! Shoo!
As always, let's start with the Abnormality. Heavenly Executor's Scribe, while sparse in information, is Extremely Clear about its themes. It's very explicitly described as only noting down and following the judgements of someone else, while not assessing what it writes down on its own.
It refuses to cast down its own judgement, and refuses to doubt the judgement of others. We can see that in how it accepts the Sinners' opinion of its tablet regardless of whether they read it or destroy it.
The parallel with our Mr. Refuses To Cast Moral Judgement here is very, very clear. Just like the Scribe, Meursault simply follows orders of those in authority without question, and accepts whatever opinion others have of him.
Another thing to note is the religious angle of the Abnormality. Heavenly Executor's Scribe, and the Pursuance E.G.O by proxy, have very clear design references to angels and heaven, and seem to be referencing the Biblical idea that angels have no free will, simply being vehicles through which God acts.
The connection between religion and oppression through judgement is absolutely not lost on me here, especially with the Abnormality's name calling the higher power it follows the Heavenly Executor. It is merely the secretary of the True Judge, Jury, and Executioner that is this interpretation of God. Which, while I'm calling attention to the concept of Judgement and Execution... that should sound Extremely Familiar to those of you who have read the Stranger, now shouldn't it?
Now onto the Sin Analysis, because that's the part I feel most comfortable with.
Pursuance's Sin damage is Sloth, which is a Sin associated with apathy and inaction, as we can see from the base E.G.Os of Gregor and Yi Sang. Likewise, Sloth as Pursuance's main Sin means exactly what one might think it means for Meursault - apathy towards the judgement and orders made by those of authority. He doesn't assess them on his own, he simply follows them to the letter.
For the Sin requirements, we have Sloth, Pride, and Gloom. Sloth I already covered in how it reflects Meursault's apathy and lack of own opinion towards the judgement and orders he is told to follow, so let's focus on the other two.
In my interpretation of the Sins, Pride represents actions taken for their benefits with their consequences being ignored. This, I think, is reflected in what Pursuance represents. Meursault is following orders because that's what he believes benefits him, regardless of whatever harm he may be inflicting by doing so. After all, following what the judging party says is better than standing out and being judged himself.
The last Sin requirement here is Gloom, and that's the one I'm most intrigued by. I interpret Gloom as actions taken under the pressure of negative emotions. As such, I think Meursault requiring Gloom to use Pursuance actually repaints the context of his actions in a somewhat sympathetic light. It implies that severe emotional stress is part of what pushes him to do this. And really, can you blame him? Knowing that the authority whose orders you're following could at any point turn its judgement against you can't be conductive to good mental health.
As for the dialogue lines, there's some interesting implications to them, I think.
His Awakening line has him promise to "pray for someone", which is generally considered to be a way of giving someone blessing, to be hoping that something good happens to them. However, that's not what Meursault is talking about here. His line here implies that by praying for someone, by turning his God's attention towards someone, he is actually doing the opposite. That by praying for someone, he is ensuring that that someone will break.
By praying for someone when his God is Judge, Jury, and Executioner, he is effectively ensuring Holy Judgement upon this person. And well, Meursault very much feels like the type of person to understand how horrible it feels to be judged for everything, doesn't he.
On the other hand, his Corroded line ties back to something else I already mentioned in this analysis. You know the whole thing of Meursault blindly following orders because he knows the authority could very easily judge him instead? Yeah, this line basically confirms it. It confirms that, while everyone around him is on thin ice, the ice he's on is even thinner. If he ever messes up, it doesn't matter who else messed up, he's the one getting punished. He's the one who won't be forgiven. He's the one who Shan't Be Pardoned.
...Fun fact, analyzing Meursault's E.G.Os is how I truly started to appreciate him as a character.

How long of a journey did it take GB and BS to get to the latter's kingdom? And how long will it take to get back?
Because if it is long hours, I had this thought that the rest of the Beast at the Temple of Apathy, once they woke up and realized Gingerbrave's absence, would quick dash storm the Faerie Kingdom (and possibly find the Rebellion's hideout) and starts causing havoc thinking they kidnapped Gingerbrave. Cloud Haetae would instantly make that assumption and bring it up to the rest of the Beast.
When they got back empty-handed (and annihilated majority of the cookies' lands and somehow, if only possible, destroyed the remains of the Tree), it was only minutes after their return that Burning Spice came back with the little cookie.
Cue a sickly worried and overly stressed Eternal Sugar Cookie screaming bloody mary at BS as she pecks and claws the hell out of him....and somehow manages to get her hands on Shrimp Dumpling King's sword.
Burning Spice just better hope that she isn't in her brooding phase as well.
Well-
I will say that the Rebellion's hideouts are *not* in the Faerie Kingdom and they are still unknown to the Beasts. The elusive group of cookies are still at large and *no one* knows where they are.
But in the topic of the travel, I would say it only takes two hours to BS' Kingdom and 2-ish hours back to the Ivory Pagoda (only because GingerBrave is going to want to stay longer).
And you bet ES is gonna be overemotional and clawing at BS. Cloud Haetae might even bite. And even the Dumpling Kings are looking at Mystic Flour Cookie like, "You gonna let us fuss over the kid now???"
Who knows 🤷‍♀️

DnD anon back again with the final subclass for host!, last but certainly not least, The School of Observation.... admittedly I don't think this would be very strong in a standard dnd game..... but this would be very strong in a roleplay heavy focus one but anyways I present to you, the subclass ---------
School of Observation Wizard are known for standing away from the brunt of the action, yet wizards of the school of observation take it to an entirely different level, Hidden in secluded locations, observing gruesome scenes with either detached apathy or cruel glee, the School of Observation does more that just watch… it puppeteers…… After all… You already view people like one would chess pieces…. what's wrong with using them as such?
2nd: Eyes of the Observer When you gain this subclass at second level you first gain proficiency with Perception and Insight and gain the ability to create Remote Eyes, as an action, you can create a number of Remote Eyes equal to your intelligence modifier. These eyes must be placed manually but can adhere to any surface. They are permanently invisible and last until destroyed or dispelled. You can view through one eye at a time as an action and hear and see as if you were present. However, you are blind while doing so, and viewing through a Remote Eye requires concentration.
Remote Eye Stats: Permanently invisible. AC 10, 1 HP. Immunities: Immune to all conditions. If a Remote Eye is destroyed or dispelled, you sense it immediately.
6th: Master of Observation The Maximum number of Remote Eyes you can have at one time increases to 4 times your intelligence modifier and you can place them anywhere you can see within 30 feet as a bonus action
10th: Puppet Master When Viewing through a Remote eyes you may cast a spell as if you were there, the spell must be Enchantment, Illusion or Divination and cannot target the caster, you can only cast through a remote eye if you are currently looking through it
14th: All-Seeing eyes You no longer need to concentrate to view through your Remote Eyes, and you can simultaneously see through as many of your Remote Eyes as you wish, as well as your own surroundings. However, viewing more than your Intelligence modifier in eyes at once causes sensory overload, imposing one level of exhaustion for every 10 minutes you exceed this limit. ------- Oddly this one was fairly simple and also the one I am most divided on..... Mechanically it's much simpler that something like the Arsonist rogue I made....... and yet it also encourages a very odd playstyle but honestly I feel like it's fitting for host since it's just really weird... especially with how it's only very weak early on but snowballs once you are a high level.... But regardless I'd love to here what you and host think of it! And honestly I am kinda gonna miss this little series of asks, if I am not making DnD subclasses after this can I still call myself DnD anon lol?
Host being useless in battle is pretty much in character. They'd be the type to DM games rather than play though they'd rarely get the chance, the only ones that would humor them are their staff but this class is fitting, they are, in fact, pondering their orb.
This class would be a relief, if they actually have to be a player then they'd like this class and really any class that skewed more odd and strange mechanics wise, they like the challenge of seeing what they can get away with do.

One of my biggest criticisms of how Hori wrote the LOV villains was how remorseless and utterly self-absorbed they were.
They were given too much empathy and compassion by the narrative, so much focus was put on them being tragic victims of society that never got help, so much emphasis was put on the heroes needing to reach to them and save them from themselves.
All the typical sings of characters who will get a redemption or at least a salvation arc, right?
But it was utterly baffling to me how much these villains didn't give a flying fuck about the victims they ruined or killed. How much they even enjoyed lashing out at innocent people and destroying lives. This might trigger their fans, but when it comes to evil apathy? They were exactly like Overhaul and AFO. They absolutely were!
And it got me thinking, how the hell are these villains gonna get a redemption or a salvation arc when they've never shown the most crucial qualities thar all redeemed villains and bad people had in this manga: remorse and a sincere desire to atone?
But the answer was right there, wasn't it? They were NOT supposed to get a redemption or a salvation arc precisely because they did NOT have these qualities.
Hori was very consistent about this throughout the story.
Now the question is: why did Hori choose to make the LOV undeserving of redemption or salvation despite feeling so much empathy and compassion for them? You couldn't possibly accuse him of not caring deeply about these characters. He put his whole heart in writing their tragic lives and all but forced his readers to feel for them and care about saving them.
I've thought about it for a while, and I guess the answer might be in Hori's love for sad endings and horror stories. He has expressed his fascination for them a couple of times. Deeply sympathetic yet doomed characters who fail themselves are a pretty standard trope in these genres. So it's not surprising that he channelled this into his writing. And I think he wanted his readers - the ones who the LOV villains - to experience the tragedy of these types of characters. I think he wanted to use their tragedy to express his concerns about real societal issues in Japan.
This is part of the reason why I'm glad Hori has no interaction or even any knowledge about the discourse in BNHA's western fandoms. I'm glad they're not his target audience.
Cuz imagine you're Hori. You've spent years enjoying writing about specific genes and tropes that you've always loved and you managed to incorporate them in your Shonen manga, only to find out that a large segment of your fandom are throwing the biggest hissy fits because they belived you were writing about radical hope syiry and redemption arcs for monstrous villains when you actually writing about your (horror/tragedy-influnced) sympathetic yet doomed characters 🫠

Here's a small list of Poor Man's Poison songs that fit the current recent events instead of just Feed The Machine. Complete with a summary of each song and lyric quotes as an example of the song's contents. Said summaries are just my interpretation of the songs meanings.
Each title with an underline will take you to the exact song on YouTube if you tap/click it.
Tumblr media
Greedy Man
A song about how greed may very well be your downfall. It criticizes the rich and talks of how truly unimportant money is in the long run. When the food and water runs out and all the animals are extinct, you can't eat money.
"See, around here, the greedy man, he ain't nothing but a fool, and his money ain't nothing but a cemetery tool."
Prodigal
A song about how it doesn't matter who you are. You still need to be careful and humble with your life. If you make the mistake of lettin your hubris get the better of you, you'll be the only one responsible when it all crashes down around you.
"So don't think no less of your humble possessions when you see all the money they owe.'Cause all the gold they got ain't gonna change a thing, and it ain't gonna save their souls."
Call For Soldiers
A song about war and the troubles that come with it. Land bein destroyed, innocent lives bein taken, slavery, colonization, everythin you'd expect from a gruesome war.
"Tearing down flags of dying men. Claiming land that no eyes have seen. Set in does the rain, guiding rivers to seas. Turns these battle soaked mountains to green."
Change
A song about how everythin is changin for the worst, like we're goin back in history. It talks of deception, unreliable governments, conformity, slavery, and overall apathy from the world.
"Things sure ain't looking like they used to. You got people dying all over the place and the government's lying right to your face."
Providence
A song about major problems in society with corrupt leaders and the rich. It talks of seekin salvation from the corrupt and the consequences of their actions.
"Feed the rich and kill the poor. Turn out the lights and just ignore what's going on outside. Beating hearts of the depraved, we've turned their people into slaves. And we've given up before we've even tried."
Hey Mister
A song about wantin to leave your current residence/situation to start anew and get away from your problems. It talks of seekin help for said problems and the effects those problems have on you.
"I said, "Hey, Mister, hey, if you're going my way, I could sure use a ride out of this place.""
C'mon Down
A song about tryna escape your problems in unhealthy ways like indulgin in drugs and bein reckless. It talks about all the ways you could stand up to make a change, or completely ignore others to focus on your own problems to climb your way to the top. Give up, stand up to make a change, help others, focus on yourself, all of it is your choice.
"You can lay down, or you can put up a fight, or you can break bread with the beggars and thieves, or you can highhorse your way to your knees or you can take that lesson that you learned today. Share it around or throw it away."
Feed The Machine
A song about rebellion and fightin those who try to hold you down. While it mainly shows and focuses on the oppressor's view how they want to continue holdin the people down and make them into cogs in the vast machine. To continue controllin them. While it all just seems hopeless to the people in the end regardless of their fightin.
"Let's all just blindfold the poor. We must remind them what's in store. We got 'em now, just break them down a little bit more."
Good People
A song about mournin the loss of how respectful, humble, and kind people used to be. Askin you what you'd do to help those in need, if you'd reach out a hand or walk away.
"If you could help or walk away, if that choice was up to you, what would you do?"
Give and Take
A song about rebellion, but this time the people have the ability to stand up and defend themselves. Standin up for themselves and startin a revolution no matter how dangerous the war will be. Preparin and fightin for themselves. It focuses on the oppressed from Feed The Machine instead of the oppressor's perspective.
"Today's the day. The revolution's on its way. (Our time is now.) Hold the line. This is how we'll be defined. (Just stand your ground.)"
Let's Go!
A song about how we're bein deceived by our world leaders and how bleak it all seems in the end. We're bein lied to constantly and there's a war on the horizon. We've been betrayed and we need to step up. To defend ourselves like they did in Give And Take.
"We're not the same. For that, we should embrace. This is the tool they use to separate. Some are afraid, some full of rage. We all feel we've been betrayed."

The Sunday News Shows were pretty interesting...
Sen. Marco Rubio goes on 'This Week' & speaks about a "Pro- Hamas Wing"(?). He's obviously Pro- Israel, but he tries 2 equate 1,200 Israeli deaths (hundreds killed by 'Friendly Fire') & the relocation of 90,000 Israeli squatters w/ over 30,000 dead Palestinians & the relocation of over 1.5 Million Gazans. Netanyahu faces criminal charges when he leaves Office, so he's motivated 2 keep his Campaign of Genocide going. Netanyahu & the Likud Party's lust 4 a 'Greater Israel' has made Bibi determined 2 force the Palestinian Population on Egypt, & Marco Rubio seems okay w/ that.
Sen. Rafael Warnock appeared on 'Face The Nation', & pretty much echoed Sen. Rubio on Israel. He called 'The State' of Israel an Ally, but R they? The History isn't lining up w/ the Washington D.C. narrative. AIPAC is definitely getting their money's worth! Warnock then stumbled over the question of Black Voter Apathy. Blackfolk want Freedom of Expression more than the Right 2 Vote 4 Anti Black Racist 'A' or Anti Black Racist 'B'... What's his view on Black Business & Job Development in Georgia? What about Black Home Ownership? Can We get ALL of these bootlicking Ministers out of Our Politics? We need POLICY, not Sermons. How many of them actually LIVE in 'The Hood'?
Following a curious disclaimer by Kristen Welker, she proceeded 2 grill Former RNC Chairwoman & Current NBC Contributer, Rona McDaniel on 'Meet The Press'. Nothing out of the ordinary 4 Kristen, but her Panel took it up a notch. Chuck Todd started by saying NBC owed Kristen an apology 4 interviewing McDaniel(???) He went on 2 slam his 'colleague' & question NBC's decision to hire her. The other Panelists more or less agreed w/ Chuck... I found that curious. NBC has been criticized 4 its Democratic Party affiliation; Chuck Todd came across like a 'Cool Kid' who didn't want Rona McDaniel sitting @ his lunch table. I thought they were supposed 2 B 'Teammates' who agree 2 disagree... I found Myself thinking about The NY Yankees acquiring Roger Clemens. Imagine if the Players shunned 'The Rocket', bcuz of his actions during his tenure w/ the Boston Red Sox? He 'beaned' A LOT of them over the Years... Where R the Adults in The Room?!
It's pretty clear that The Powers That B believe that They have dumbed down & polarized the American Public, 2 the point that Proxies call tell Us anything. Meanwhile, Conspiracy Theories of a Cancelled 2024 Presidential Election R growing. When Alexa & Siri both have it in their Algorithm, that's cause 4 concern. Nevermind the Fact that Joe Biden just signed the 2023 Budget @ the end of the 1st Quarter of 2024. When can We expect the 2024 Budget 2 B passed? Congress is awash in Lobbyist $$$, & Our Elected Officials R actually Corporate Vassals. This degree of decadence destroyed Rome, Mali, & Kongo; America is walking the same path. The Southern Invasion is only speeding up a historical Cycle.
I have said that 2024 is a Year of Affirmation, & it's clear what Politicians R affirming. Lucky 4 Us, Real Change doesn't come from Congress, it comes from The Streets.
-It's gonna B a HOT SUMMER Family!
