I heard underconsumption-core was trending so here’s my watering can. There’s one hole drilled into the top of the handle to allow air in so the water comes out of the cap smoothly. Is it aesthetic? No. Was it free (with purchase of oat milk and access to a drill with bits of varying sizes) and does it work? Yes!

This is going to have to be the year I successfully learn to window and patio garden I think. It's always been difficult because the sun just fries the fuck out of my patio. I just anticipate it being too expensive to do otherwise.
If I'm going to be working from home there should be no reason I can't do this.
Any secrets or book suggestions welcome.

Vegetable Gardening in Apartment Balcony
Urban green spaces can be transformed into havens of tranquility and development by incorporating vegetable gardening on apartment balconies. This not as it were gives a steady supply of fresh, organic produce but also offers a helpful escape from the urban hustle. The intimate connection with nature promotes physical well-being and mental peace, reducing stress and improving overall quality of life. However, gardening in small spaces presents challenges such as restricted regions, changing light conditions, and urban pollution. In any case, with thoughtful planning and creative solutions, these challenges can be overcome. Choosing the proper plants, using vertical space effectively, and using innovative container solutions can maximize gardening potential.

Really getting into growing indoor edible plants. Making a spreadsheet and everything. I live in a small apartment and I have plenty of plants in my livingroom but I want to replace them with edible plants. I'm used to growing all sorts of things for food. My parents grew up on farms and as a kid we always grew veggies and fruits and other edible things and I've been without plant ripened produce for 5ish years now and I can't take it anymore. Even the farmers markets here are from large commercial farms where produce isn't picked fresh. If you have any suggestions or advice, lmk.
Yes I know they need light. Yes I have grow lights (I'm growing a tropical palm tree perfectly fine inside). I read so many reddit threads today where people were being so pessimistic and mean to people asking about growing crops indoors in an apartment and I don't like that. People do it all the time. My father had all sorts of plants in his apartment back in the 80s for crying out loud.
I had to stop growing herbs because my ferret loves digging those up for some reason. He doesn't mess with many other plants though.
I'm definitely going to be starting with a dwarf rose and might try my hand at some dwarf peppers because I use both of those a lot in my cooking.

I moved the catnip inside temporarily for 2 reasons. The first is because we have fleas ✨🥳✨ and learned that they don't like mint, and I didn't want to spray peppermint oil in my room because of the cat and essential oils being toxic to cats, so I just have the catnip plant in here to hopefully help. We also have diatomaceous earth scattered around (I was choking on it yesterday) and Rookie is now wearing a flea collar. Apartment pest services were also already scheduled for July 26th, so we should be clear of fleas by the time we move out in August. I'm not looking forward to packing (I hate moving), but thankfully unlike my parents homes, we've kept this place pretty clean and it's fairly small so cleaning every room when we go should be pretty easy. The non-packing chore I'm looking forward to the least is changing the shower head back to the landlord's, because it was hard enough to get the old one off and now the current one is just smooth. even if I use the pipe wrench, it's going to be hard to get enough friction to remove it . I don't know how I got it on, to be honest. At least I still have Teflon tape so I won't have to buy any new supplies.
The second reason is to give it a break from the heat since as you can see it's withering a little bit. I might have left it unwatered for a day longer than I should have by accident. I really, really want to put my plants in the ground where I can water them daily and they can freely put down roots :( darn this apartment life.
It will go back outside after a few days of acting as a flea repellent and monitoring for plant health.
The lavender, wand flower, basil, and wildflowers are all dead. The thyme is basically dead but I keep watering it because there are some green sprouts somehow hanging on. Leaving just the cacti, which are doing just fine in the heat. There's also a couple stray sunflowers still kicking in the wildflower box, I'm still watering them too.

My twin flowers are... ? Reaching for the stars? 🤭 I don't know why the petals are suddenly standing upright. Google doesn't seem to have an answer and PictureThis deems it healthy so I'm not gonna worry. Just curious and quite amused! I'll be deadheading these four blossoms in a couple days for tea, since I'm bringing them over to my sister's for a couple weeks anyway and I don't wanna shock them too much. There are plenty of new buds forming already, so I'll have new blooms soon enough!
My creeping woodsorrel meanwhile is very happily growing in its tiny makeshift home 🤭 It's still too babie to properly transplant into its own pot but considering how fast it grows I hope this is enough for the next two weeks. We shall see!

Hiked in the woods and sat by creeks, admired plants.
I'll be honest. For the last 4 months, I couldn't tell you what is happening in the world.
I've been out here vibing with plants when I ain't working or doing school.

These seeds are from a banana pepper from my mom's patio garden. Will I be able to germinate and grow any of them? Don't know! But I'll certainly try, at least hydroponically and maybe also in soil. My new motto with gardening is "fuck around and find out"!
