Been watching The Apothecary Diaries and love Maomao!! I wanted to draw her with the flower from the opening, the creeping woodsorrel. A youtube comment by user Zenedhyr7612 explained that her nickname MaoMao is a reference to this flower which opens its petals during night, and closes them during the day. Very epic of her :-)

23/03 Creeping woodsorrel in the dome. Pretty much every greenhouse has it. We thought we'd been lucky so far - we received a plant with a woodsorrel stowaway and immediately fed the woodsorrel to the chickens, but alas, here it is, springing up from the ground itself.
Reasons every greenhouse gets creeping woodsorrel eventually, and can't eliminate it:
Batteries: If you leave any tiny root splinter in the ground, it holds enough energy to regrow the whole plant. (An unknown species of woodsorrel was domesticated into the root crop oca, granting that energy to humans. I'm sure this is fine).
Detonators: The seed pods build up water pressure in their tissues and actually explode, ejecting seeds in ballistic arcs around your greenhouse. So it sprouts very far away from wherever you last saw it.
Wires: creeping woodsorrel accumulates copper in its stems, which run for long distances along the ground and sprout roots wherever they touch down. Historically, picking woodsorrel and grinding it up has been a practical way to locate underground copper deposits.
I don't know what kind of Ineffable Device the creeping woodsorrel infesting every greenhouse in the world is intent on forming, but our dome is part of it now.

My twin flowers are... ? Reaching for the stars? 🤭 I don't know why the petals are suddenly standing upright. Google doesn't seem to have an answer and PictureThis deems it healthy so I'm not gonna worry. Just curious and quite amused! I'll be deadheading these four blossoms in a couple days for tea, since I'm bringing them over to my sister's for a couple weeks anyway and I don't wanna shock them too much. There are plenty of new buds forming already, so I'll have new blooms soon enough!
My creeping woodsorrel meanwhile is very happily growing in its tiny makeshift home 🤭 It's still too babie to properly transplant into its own pot but considering how fast it grows I hope this is enough for the next two weeks. We shall see!

Your Melody & hanakotoba (language of flowers)
during the voice drama watch party livestream, hyuga (rimicha's seiyuu) mentioned the meaning of the sunflowers in the pv and how they may relate to his feelings for kirimi-chan. knowing that (and that hanakotoba seems to have some differences here and there) i decided to go down the rabbit hole
disclaimer: i don't know anything about flowers and guessed for some of them, also most of the sources (listed at the bottom of the post) seem to be wikis of sorts run by either a single person or a small group of people
Rimicha
Sunflowers (ヒマワリ/himawari): As mentioned by Hyuga in the voice drama watch party livestream, they tend to mean "I'm looking at only you" and symbolise "longing".
Strelitzia reginae/bird of paradise flowers (極楽鳥花/gokuraku chouka): Pretty hard to translate, but according to my sources, it carries a negative connotation. The best it can probably be translated as is "a love which you are trying to show yourself bigger and better", according to my sources. (To be clear, what's being translated is 気取った愛, which the machine translation didn't give any clues for what it might mean, and a dictionary was somehow even more confusing.)
Oxalis corniculata/creeping woodsorrel (カタバミ/katabami): I honestly don't know if these are the right flowers, but they're the best guess I have for the small yellow flowers at the base of the bouquet. It seems to symbolise "a shining heart" and mean "to be with you".
Hallritt
Geraniums (ゼラニウム/zeraniumu): I can't tell what type of geraniums they could be, but that doesn't seem to matter in hanakotoba anyways. Red geraniums in particular can represent "friendship", "determination", and "solace", and can carry the meaning "happiness when you're there".
Merold
White roses (白いバラ/shiroi bara): Generally represents "purity" (in the "innocent" sense) and "heartfelt respect". It can have the meaning "I am suitable for you", but it seems it can also mean something like "beauty is your only appeal", which is... interesting.
Pink roses (ピンク色のバラ/pinku iro no bara): Seems to represent meanings like "kind heart", "satisfaction", "promising" (in the sense that one could have a "promising future"), and "elegance". It can also mean "first love" or "to be deeply moved".
White lilies (白いユリ/yuri): Again can represent "innocence", but can also represent "unmarked beauty" or "magnificence". It can also mean "a noble personality". (As a sidenote, I think people generally assume you mean a white lily if you just say "yuri".)
Pink lillies (ピンク色のユリ): Much easier than the above, but funnily enough can mean "insinuations" or "words or behaviour that hints at a deeper meaning", and "vanity".
Asters (アスター/asutaa): White asters tend to represent "change" or "reminiscing", and can also mean "a heart that has faith".
Lupinus (ルピナス/rupinasu): They seem to represent "the (power of) imagination" or "being greedy", which is an interesting difference. They can also mean "always content" or "you are my comfort". The last one's kanji can also mean "peace of mind" or "tranquility", so that's what "comfort" means there.
Calluna vulgaris/heather (カルーナ/karuuna): My best guess for the smaller, darker pink long flowers. This one doesn't have many sources for hanakotoba I can find, so the meanings are probably nonexistant, but a few sites I can find are claiming it can mean "self-reliance", "integrity", and "departure".
Loropetalum chinense (白いトキワマンサク/shiroi tokiwamansaku): The best guess I have at the little white flowers with slim petals. This is another one where I had to go digging for other sources for the hanakotoba, so it might just be all made up. Anyway, it can represent "inspiration" or "mysterious powers", or mean "good luck charm" or "I want to love you" (not entirely sure about the last one).
Gypsophilia/baby breath (かすみソウ/kasumi sou): The very small white flowers (notable at the bottom of the bouquet). This is a later edit because someone I know figured it out. Anyway, white baby breath represent "a calm heart" or "a pure heart".

Creeping Woodsorrel is a notorious weed with reddish green leaves and yellow flowers. If left unchecked, its "creeping" stems will spread throughout the yard, easily taking over nearby plants.

This latest refutation of creationism is an example of observable evolution occurring in recent history. It shows how a species will evolve according to local environmental conditions. The definition of biological evolution is of course, changes in allele frequencies in a population over time, and need not include a phenotypic change at all. In this case though the change is the observed change in the leaf-colour of a species of plant, the creeping woodsorrel, Oxalis corniculata. The traditional response by creationists to these examples is to try to get away with a different definition of biological evolution to include changes that biologists don't claim ever happen, such as an entirely new taxon arising in a single event, or one taxon changing into another, unrelated taxon. It matters not one iota to a creationists that they may have been corrected on this point numerous times, it's almost impossible to shift them away from their protective shell of pretending science makes claims science never makes and the definition of biological evolution is something so absurd that no sane person could accept it.

When I scanned my plant life, I decided to learn more about these three plants in my artwork.
1.Creeping Yellow Woodsorrel(my clovers): With this plant, I learned that Native Americans have a history of using it for mouth sores, eye issues, nausea, urinary infections, and fevers.- Source: HealthyGreenSavy 2.Rose of Sharon(the purple flowers): I learned that I could crush the petals up and use them as natural conditioner in my hair. It can reduce dandruff and even darken your hair.-Source: Farm Homestead 3.Sugar Maple Leaf(the red leaf): I learned that scientists recently discovered that this leaf could repress elastase activity, just like botox, and it reduces inflammation on the skin.-Source: Insider

We have baby blooms! 🌼🌼
First twin buds on my calendula have been slowly opening up over the past couple days. It's past 8pm right now. I'm thinking they might fully bloom by morning and I'm so excited!! They're already so pretty like this 🥰🥰✨
Meanwhile, my creeping woodsorrel sprouted up its second leaf stem which might also fully open tomorrow! It still excites me whenever I think about how I spotted this growing out of my outdoor calendula pot.
I've been looking at possible choices to buy as houseplants next month and I did have an oxalis in my list. I mean sure I was looking at the red triangular oxalis, but the heart shaped leaves on this one is just.. well it's going straight to my heart and winning it over 🥰🥰

I also saw other cool plants like Trilliums, violets, ferns, some BIG woodsorrel, and mayapples (the big, shiny, lobed circular leaves in the fourth picture).
The forest shows many signs of being adapted to human presence and caretaking! All along the trails, blackberry brambles are in bloom, and small trees are covered in wild grapevines. Pawpaws dominate the understory, along with occasional red mulberries. The forest is full of plants that make food, and they all depend on a little disturbance to thrive—whether that is trails being cut through the woods, controlled burns creating open understory and meadows, or the occasional cutting of a tree to allow more sun.
All of these things happen naturally, but humans can do them intentionally and with care and purpose, which is what makes us such a cool species.
Do you want to see the site of a controlled burn?
That bigger tree's bark has been a little scorched, but it will be totally fine. However, the smaller plants and dead brush have been killed and/or cleared out by low creeping fire.
As you can see, the leaf layer isn't gone, just scorched and broken up a little bit. Unlike tilling the ground or driving over it with heavy machinery, the soil (and the mycorrhizal network, I presume) is practically unharmed.
The mayapples are already springing back up, and a few baby elms as well. No sign of wintercreeper, Amur honeysuckle, or tree-of-heaven! The burning makes the ground fertile and ready for new growth by releasing nutrients immediately.
Importantly, this also uses up the fuel that a bigger, more dangerous wildfire could use to spread all throughout the forest. Sad for the little trees that got burned up, but that's a very quick way to go, on tree timescales...
Pawpaw trees! I went down a little used trail and found some even bigger pawpaw groves. Pawpaws grow in clonal colonies, so the slender trunks in the third pic are most likely all the same pawpaw tree (like Pando, but on a smaller scale).
They need shade to sprout, but they flower and make fruit only when the sunbeams can touch them! They often form splendid little groves in areas where a large tree was cut down or felled in a storm.
Pawpaws are an example of a tree that thrives best with human caretakers. When the canopy closes up and the forest floor becomes dark and shady, the pawpaw trees no longer flower and make fruit. Cutting an occasional tree and/or managing the forest as a more open woodland creates good conditions for lots of pawpaw.
Which makes good conditions for other life! The pawpaw groves were filled with frolicking zebra swallowtail butterflies.
The zebra swallowtail butterfly's caterpillars can only eat the leaves of the pawpaw, much like monarch caterpillars need milkweed! There were many of them flying around in the sunlight.
...i tried, okay
There were loads of wasps, but they didn't bother me at all, they were too busy with their wasp business. The flies were numerous too—which makes sense; pawpaws need flies to pollinate their flowers! I saw tons of electric green tiger beetles and big tiger swallowtail butterflies. I hope the big beasts like elk and bison will be able to return soon...

I found a volunteer creeping woodsorrel in my lemon thyme! How charming: two lemony edible plants in the same container.
