finished mcl ng ep 4 and. what a strange experience. while i ofc love that we get a photo w/ thomas on his bike, it's very strange to me to see the experience be described the way it was when i've been riding motorcycles since i was like, what, 7? much, much possibly earlier?

like, i get it, romance and all (kinda. i AM arospec and ace, but i am also a writer so i do get the point), but it's just a bit of a tonal whiplash when i, the player, consider tightly holding onto the person actually "driving" it to be very normal and non-romantic (my period of being weird about it was when i was 10 and super duper anxious about any way i could be perceived), and the character, who has never ridden a bike and at first even refuses to hold properly onto thomas and then. on the special scene, starts to wax poetic about his scent and wanting to talk to him and wishing they could do this with their helmets off lol

This episode cost me 1411 APs on Roy's (+Jason) route with jokers, without Archibald. 1212 on Amanda's route (didn't meet Jason), with jokers, with Archibald. 1431 on Devon's (+Jason) route with jokers, with Archibald.

they are both excellent players as we both know, but theres one thing paige has that caitlin doesn’t

and its a complete all around game. like paige can do it all! she gets it done defensively, she can score from all over the floor. and especially does things caitlin needs to develop more in like floaters and midrange and finishing at the rim.

i mean yes caitlin outscores paige but look at the efficiency she did it on! paige shot 54% from the field and clark shot 45%. paige was 42% from 3 and caitlin was 38%.

the elite eight vs juju watkins.

juju had 29 but shot 36%. paige had 28 and shot 47%. they both attemped 6 threes and juju shot 33% while paige shot 50%.

i mean paige can have big number games like caitlin and be incredibly efficient cause thats just how good she is. like she is shooting post player percentage. i mean like she was playing 1-4 to make up for what they lost this past season. like she was posting up against bigger girls.

and we talk about assists. i think people forget that because nika took over that role as passer, they think paige cant pass the ball like caitlin. which is just wrong. even tho caitlin assists more look at the turnovers she also creates.

Levihan High School HCs: IB Program Edition

CAS Hours - Basically volunteer hours

Levi hates touching banisters and handrails on staircases, so he hangs off of Hange's arm.

Hange takes HL Biology and HL Chemistry. They keep track of HL Physics and HL Math material, though, out of pure intrigue. They probably had engineering courses, too.

Levi is in HL Psychology and HL History. He just wants to get his diploma and leave. Or maybe Math HL, he seems like he'd be inexplicably good with numbers.

Hange is in robotics and, surprisingly to most, is in track and field with Levi. Hange does long distance, though. Levi meets for long distance practices as well as practice for sprinters but usually is a sprinter during track meets.

In this universe, Levi is still broke (damn), but he takes the road of education as opposed to crime in order to find himself opportunity. He's hoping to get into colleges this way.

Levi and Hange join humanitarian clubs together, like Red Cross and UNICEF. They love getting CAS hours together.

Hange studies German and Levi studies... also German, maybe?

Hange is a natural at public speaking. Their speeches and presentations are always incredibly well thought out and articulated beautifully.

Levi did a Math IA on tea and the ideal time it would take him to cool the tea for optimal temperature, considering the average time it takes him to finish a cup of tea so that it stays hot for as long as he needs.

Hange checks out textbooks from the school library for fun, often Gen. Ed. books.

They take a lot of AP classes, too, and encourage Levi to do so as well. Hange is going for an IB diploma as well as an AP diploma.

To maximize success, Hange ate, slept, swam and lived in German. They thought in German as they were doing all their studies for other classes, so they gained a lot of extra knowledge. Thus, in the Individual Oral Presentation, Hange talked their professor's ear off about some obscure topic they fell down a rabbit hole for after doing a school assignment in German. They probably scored a 6 or 7.

Hange's global presentation was about life below water. Levi's was about something related to poverty conditions.

After school and extracurricular activities, they like to study together on a call. They'll both be awake at the most odd hour in the morning, half delusional while working on their EEs or studying for exams.

They are each other's alarm clocks. If one wakes up before the other, they'll give the other a phone call to wake them. Usually Levi does the waking, since he sets an alarm regularly, but occasionally Hange will wake Levi.

Due to stuff like this, both of them are constantly seen charging their phones at school.

OH god actually it's really funny how much shit that was in it has come to pass in canon by now, because I originally conceptualized it circa gen 4. It's usually what I think about if I think of like pokemon fancharacters or whatever. here we fuckin go

It was based on the Holon region in the TCG which has pokemon with funny types. we have Tera types now... the idea was that it would be begin further expanding and adding its own League and whatnot. I put it as above Johto/Kanto so relatively gen 1&2 selection of mons. keeping it simple.

it was more about the Weird Type Shit, which the pokemon prof of the region was studying under an organization she was a part of (the evil team, which was not branded as "Team (x)" just like Aether Foundation lmao). anomalies to track down and whatnot. but they were also inducing it themselves and studying other detected anomalies in the region. or sometimes the experiments they did created new, unintended anomalies of their own

this was mostly to make Missingno canon. which is like the only thing that hasn't still come to pass yet (BUT IT SHOULD!!!!!!). my dearest darlingest Missingno, the entire reason I love glitches today, was effectively my box legendary. the backstory of the prof was much like Lusamine in that she saw this Fucking Weird Pokemon a long time ago due to her Experiments and it fucked her up and she became a weird bad anime mom afterward. SHE EVEN HAD A DEAD HUSBAND!!!!!!! I FUCKIN INVENTED LUSAMINE FIRST

oh I should mention the "protag" analogue of the region WAS the professor's child. SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you had to fight your mom. who is the prof. who is also the evil team leader. and corrupted by some messed up videogame code. damn that sucks

later when we started getting more AI-feeling Rotom characters, I imagined a Rotom in a more robot/android body as one of the team underlings. he was the protag's buddy back home but now he has to fight you :( sorry i dont wanna do this but my programming is telling me to (throws a pokeball out halfheartedly)

(ASIDE: I remember in the first movie when they were like flabbergasted at Mewtwo technically qualifying as a pokemon trainer. that was kinda fucked up and weird, can we go back to that? tbh when I think about it, a lot of the vibe of my fanregion is based on how Weird early pokemon gens felt. they really dont make it like this anymore. Ape Inc became Creatures, I'm certain some EarthBound talent factored in)

I think I was also imagining weird-typed versions of the legendary birds for a trio, which is funny cuz we got Galarian versions of them now too....

Hooke was originally a Pokemon OC and was my first one actually, he ran a Dark-type gym because one didn't exist in canon yet. he was ex-Team Rocket and moved up north to turn a new leaf. thought it fit Dark's vibe as like the Schemer Type. I had to wait amazingly long for an actual Dark-type gym in canon which is kinda funny. it actually felt a little sad when we finally got one because it had been 11 years since I had made Hooke in protest of this

if you remember my OC Serafine (she doesnt have a TH SORRY), she was also an evil team exec.

she doesn't have a modern analogue but another one of the fancharacters was the rival-type one and she was Lt. Surge's spoiled neice

the Ghost-type gym leader I can describe as a Super Nerd with the constitution of the Hiker. can see ghosts but is a social outcast but more in a nerd sense than a goth sense. I liked him a lot but I haven't had anywhere to put him :(

the Psychic-type leader was extremely tsundere and her mind reading helped her out with all those tsundere insecurities (now she's just paranoid and preemptively reads people's minds)

the Fire- and Steel-type leaders were a duo battle of "smoke and mirrors" themed magicians. and also married

Yass, time for adult!Percy!

I was wondering about life past the current Riordanverse and I really like the idea of gathering different possible jobs for Percy, for fics and for fun.

So here’s a few:

1. Teacher/Counselor

First of all, what kind of teacher? Is he an elementary teacher? Does he teach AP classes in high school? Which subjects? Public school or private school (let’s not forget, Percy spent a good chunk in his life in private schools as the token poor negro kid and was surrounded by awful arrogant rich kids like Nancy and Matt)? Montessori school?? And most importantly: no, I absolutely do not see it.

Percy’s ofc very compassionate and aware of surroundings, so he’d be on high alert with his students but with the current and former state in schools I don’t think he’s willing to get traumatized each and every single day at school.

2. Marine Biologist

Call me basic but since it’s essentially canon, Imma stick beside him (tbh I can’t remember anything past PJO lol). But marine biology is such an interesting and diverse field?? Like c’mon now!

Yes, it’s a lot more chemistry and math and physics than one might think but the possibilities? And the benefits with his powers? Let Percy get a minor in psychology and study animal behavior by actually interviewing them, IT’S A GENIUS MOVE IF YOU GET THE VISION!

3. Marketing Manager

Hehe. My field of study. Am I biased? Of course I am! Was this part of my fic Oh. It’s Them Again? Yessss, mama!

Again. Such an interesting field with many possibilities! And he’d get more than just a good check in NYC if he switches positions enough! Like… is Percy a digital marketing manager? How much does he hate Google, Meta, Amazon and co.? Is he working in strengthening brand awareness and if so, how? Is he forced to work in newsletter/email marketing? Is he a sales machine and constantly on the road? Or is he a key account manager and simply focuses on a handful of important clients?

Is he, as a disgruntled millennial, forced to work with spoiled gen z influencers he hates and has to figure out the TikTok algorithm like a grandpa on the sofa whilst unhelpful Annabeth is laughing at him (shut up Annabeth, we all know you use IG reels and occasionally YT shorts at best!!)? Does he accidentally go viral and HATES everyone calling him daddy in the comments??

Oh, the possibilities.

4. Firefighter/Paramedic

Hell yes. I saw someone else posting about this ages ago (if you can remember, feel free to @!). But this is so interesting. If you want to somewhat stick to canon and let Percy use his powers, this could be an option.

I see it, helping and saving people that way could be an option. Still, also more on the traumatizing side but I actually think this is more interesting than a teacher. And oh, the possibilities in stories are endless! Saving people and pets from burning houses. Coordinating shifts in the station, being a first responder… oof.

That said…

5. Doctor

Oof, I should really work on The Wedding Dance in the future even tho it’s hella minor plot point…

Hospital doc? Owning his own practice doc? Doing 1 first and 2 next? What type of doctor is he? Simply an internist? A gastroenterologist? Pediatrician (could be traumatizing)? A surgeon to let out his god complex? Okay, let’s note down surgeon for Annabeth… a neurologist? Endless opportunities. Where’s the PJO x Grey’s Anatomy fic we all need??

6. Hotelier

Whilst the service industry is incredibly fucked (pre- as well as post-Pandemic), this is also interesting. Let Percy and Sally own a bed and breakfast. What does it look like? How many rooms are there? How much do they hate booking.com and AirBnB for taking a good chunk of commission?

Where’s the hotel located? In Montauk? In Manhattan? In Greece?? What are the roles? Does Sally do the cooking and house keeping whilst Percy does repairs and is the receptionist/clerk?

Who are the guests?? You decide!

7. Chef/Baker

Ahhh… Chef!Percy my beloved, you will always be welcomed. So. Much. Stuff. To. Think. About. And yes, this will actually be relevant for one of my fics, IFYKY. Head chef, deputy chef, junior chef… did Percy go the Institute of Culinary Education? Did he go to Italy or France for a few years to hone his craft? Or did he purposefully say f Europe, let’s head somewhere else? What is his specialty? How much sleep does he get per week?

Also I’m never letting go of Baker!Percy and Sally who own their sweet cupcake shop and sell all kinds of sugary shit!

8. Stay at Home Dad

My fave trope, don’t get it twisted! While I think Annabeth and Percy realistically have one kid max plus two or three pets, I love the idea of Career and Business Woman!Annabeth and SAHD Percy who’s trying to make her life as easy as possible whilst tending the baby, trying to clothe the toddler and reminding their elementary school aged kid to pack their lunch.

A chaotic, yet amazing and rewarding life (which is still stressful! Just a different kind of stressful!)

What do you think? Agreements, disagreements? Anyone who’s interested/in school for/already working in any of these fields? Do you think it’s unrealistic? Is it realistic?

Everyone is talking about New Gen (which is understandable of course) but I'm more worried about the AP system like will it be similar to the OG MCL? will it be like more improved AP system? Will it take me years to finish an episode? Like I want to be excited but if the AP system is bad then I'm gonna have to skip this one out and finish OG MCL

That's the crucial question isn’t it? What is the AP system, meaning is the game playable? And I think we will only really find out when the game is released.

We can summarise what we know so far:

1. The game will use APs and we'll be able to cumulate them, like in old MCL. I don't have a screenshot at hand but this was answered on instagram.

2. The game will use at least 3 different currencies, as we can see from the pre-registration bonus (hence why it's inportant to preregister).

The hearts I assume symbolise the normal APs, the coins might be the equivalent of gold that we used to buy outfits and a new currency which seems to look like heart-shaped gems. Gems, in all games are generally used to indicate premium content. Gems are bought with real money, but can also sometimes earned (very slowly and painfully).

3. We do know there is going to be premium content, it's mentioned in the video policy, but there’s been no word on what this is going to be. We already know that some things are available only under "specific choices", so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that some of these are going to be diamond choices.

4. Whenever we think about diamond choices, we think of something crappy like:

MC: Roy is about to kiss me, what am I going to do?

Diamond choice: kiss him back.

Free choice: sneeze in his face.

Which are clearly terrible. At least I can say that I know for certain that Chino hates this kind of things, so for sure we should not expect something with crappy free choices which force the player to spend money.

This is what we know. Now I'm gonna say what I think we're gonna get.

Personally I think that the game is going to have the same level of playability for free as it has now, or even better. The fact that there are diamonds involved makes me believe that it’s going to be easy enough to get to these premium/diamond choices and that the free option is going to be decent anyway, but that the diamond option is going to give something more. For example ikemen games have very tame fade-to-black sex scenes as free options and more descriptive wild scenes as premium. Is It Love games and even Henry's Secret used to have secret scenes and illustrations which players were either able to unlock for free in very complicated ways or just buy (which is what most people did I believe) but that didn’taffect the game if skipped. So my expectation is that everything that paywalled stuff are going to be extra (including extra outfits, decors, scenes etc) and won’t have huge impact on the playability of the main game.

Would you share why you didn’t like Bodies Bodies Bodies?

The film just felt like a lot of nothing to me. Spoilers for it for anyone who is interested in it.

Like people talk about it as if it's this updated version of And Then There Were None that satirises the USAmerican upperclass but it has none of the bite that Christie's work had. Though there are issues with And Then There Were None (spoilers for it I guess), Agatha Christie pretty ruthlessly satirised the British upperclass of the time and part of why it worked so well is that every character is already a murderer of sorts before they come to the island. They are all already bad people whose selfishness lead directly to people dying.

The character in Bodies Bodies Bodies are... not that. Their biggest crimes are being wealthy, being annoying and being Gen Z. The fact that they all turn on each other is meant to represent the way people immediately turn on one another on the internet via cancellation and mob justice and all that, but like, 1) that's a wider internet trend than the people represented by the films' characters and 2) the film is not clever enough for that to work. Because all the characters are knobheads so of course they'd turn on each other, and also, this is a common trope seen in films made before the advent of the internet.

Obviously the film isn't a 1:1 to And Then There Were None but it clearly takes inspiration from it and also it's very easy to compare the two and Bodies Bodies Bodies comes out lacking. I would probably enjoy the film more if it didn't ape And Then There Were None so much because wow this film really defangs Christie's best work.

Bodies Bodies Bodies doesn't effectively satirise anything. It mostly just makes fun of Gen Z because haha they care so much about internet and phone, and idk I think that's a tired trope and a complete misunderstanding of Gen Z.

It also falls into some of the traps that it's meant to be satirising. Like there's the whole thing between Sophie and Bee where they're not really honest with each other and don't know each other that well, and part of that is indicated by Bee being confused and worried when Sophie says she loves her because they've been dating for 6 weeks and all that, but to quote Eileen Jones:

"But love isn't necessarily defined by knowing each other well. That's more of this nonsense people believe now, that the only real love is healthy, wholesome, and balanced, like a high-fiber diet, when real love can be volatile, dangerous, annihilating. There's no reason, initially at least, to think Sophie can't be honestly in love with Bee."

Like I'm supposed to think Sophie is lying to Bee about loving her when like, yeah, you can feasibly be with someone with six weeks and love them. That's not a sign of dishonesty. And like their rocky relationship is fairly important to the plot itself so like, I need to genuinely believe in this dishonesty, which I didn't initially.

The film isn't all bad, like the cinematography is great and the sound design is very effective, considering how repetitive this story can get, the pacing was pretty good. The acting is all very good, especially Amandla Steinberg and Maria Valcheva Bakalova. If Valcheva Bakalova wasn't in this film, I'd probably have turned it off halfway through.

I did also really enjoy the reveal that Greg is a vet as in, a veterinarian and not a military vet. That was pretty funny. I'll give the movie that.

If it had been that clever throughout, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. But it's not. It's trying to do something and is falling flat on its face most of the time.

Especially the ending. Where 1) the ending really shows how much And Then There Were None inspired the film and 2) how much better And Then There Were None is. One ends with the characters killing themselves because there's no way to save themselves after all that's happened, and the other ends with a character gripping a smartphone and yelling "I've got coverage!"

If I didn't dislike the film by then, that final line really made it.

If you similarly didn't like the film the way that I didn't, I'd recommend Eileen Jones' review. It's a very fun read and very cathartic.
