It was multichapter fic and I'm pretty much sure it was finished. It's basically story, where Wei Wuxian transmigrates from modern times into cultivator setting, summoned by mistake, by his counter-part here and basically hijacked their body? And was then promptly attacked by Lan Wangji, who thought it was original

In cultivator setting, Wei Wuxian was also known as a Yilling Laozu - ancient and mad with grief over Lans killing his husband few hundreds years ago. The present Lan Wangji is reincarnation of said husband, but due Yilling Laozu Wei Wuxian not letting him go, he couldn't properly reincarnate or something? Like - he is still man's husband, Lan Wangji, but a little bit different and that stops him from falling in love with YL WWX?

(There was also something about how this Wei Ying was summoned, because Lan Wangji from that universe probably died, before they had a chance to meet.)

Anyway, after getting (i think?) stabbed by Lan Wangji he got taken to Cloud Recess, then he somehow winded up in Lotus Pier, growing close with Jiang siblings. Also, Wei Wuxian from the modern times was some kind of doctor or inventor (?) and he tried bringing some modern solutions there.

17. For fic finder, I remember it was a multichap canon dovergent wangxian fic with inventor wwx. Tho I am not sure if that tag was used. The most notable part of it was Madam Jin bringing evidence of jgs putting his lot in with wrh complete with bills, transactions, correspondences etc. Jgs tries to discredit her by being a misogynist. That's when madam Jin uses a wwx custom binding spell on him and then says "I am a quick study when I want to be" to wwx and then she says "thank you for your instruction" because she learned the spell from jzx who saw wwx teach it to jc in cloud recesses lectures. After that she tells jzx to take the sect leader's seat and there was resistance from jin elders in the same scene and also in other later chapters. B) A post-canon wangxian fluff fic. I think it might've been a 5+1 sort of fic but im not sure. There was one particular scene where wwx is just hanging out with other lan spouses and they are all complaining about their husband but wwx is silent cause lwj treats him really well..After he says so one of the women say "how long will it take your husband to realise if I kill you and take your place?" To which wwx replies "like right away"

i have been obsessing over this extremely short moment post-sunshot campaign for weeks now trying to put together a lengthier post about it, but i think the screenshots themselves arranged chronologically speak for themselves. so i will just post them and then talk about the framing, because i’m insane about it.

just about everyone else on this side of the banquet hall within the scorching sun palace is looking towards jin guangshan as he speaks—everyone except for:

1) jin guangyao, who is staring straight ahead with a startlingly flat and resigned expression on his face, despite being seated in a position of honour beside his brother, and

2) nie huaisang, who is obviously TRYING to pay attention, but his attention keeps wandering between looking at nie mingjue, and looking at jin guangyao

(also he gets no further commentary/acknowledgement from me but look at jin zixun back there just lounging in his seat like a smug spoiled brat. ugh. step on legos forever jin zixun.)

the camera shifts its focus while jgs keeps talking to zero in on jgy’s expression. this deliberately highlights and provides us the chance to see his expression in more detail. and it is so hard to discern what he is feeling specifically beyond “not great,” but what stands out for me is: he isn’t wearing his usual polite, customer service mask, the one he managed to keep in place both during the introductory sequence at the cloud recesses in the face of so much mockery from the jiang sect disciples.

so what is that expression? what is going on in his head that he can’t play the part that he’s perfect for years now, when he has supposedly almost achieved everything he ever dreamed of accomplishing for himself and his mother? i mean, i have my suspicions of course, because we know what is going to happen very soon.

and then—

—the focus of this scene changes, drawing our attention away from jin guangyao towards nie huaisang where he’s seated just behind nie mingjue. because nie huaisang is not paying attention to jgs’s speech or watching his da-ge. unlike everyone else in this banquet hall in this moment, nie huaisang is looking at jin guangyao, observing him in this moment where his polite mien has failed him, and god what i wouldn’t give to know what is going through his head!! because:

1) i don’t for a moment believe nmj told nhs the details of what transpired between him and jgy during their confrontation in the scorching sun palace. i don’t think he did this as a favour to jgy or to lxc, either. imo this decision would be consistent with nmj shutting down any discussion of what caused him to exile meng yao from the unclean realm back in… uhhh, episode 10?? when nhs, wwx and jc all converge in the unclean realm throne room to ask about meng yao’s fate. (yeah it was episode 10.) anyway for all we know this is the first time nhs has seen his old body guard/babysitter since he watched meng yao totter feebly into the wild blue yonder all those months ago, and now here he is seated in a place of honour between jin zixuan and his da-ge, looking perhaps even more miserable than he did while bleeding from a giant sword wound in his chest. it is entirely consistent with nhs’s character to be like ‘???? what is up with this??’ but not even he is bold enough to ask jgy what is up in the middle of this banquet, not with da-ge right there.

2) his expression is ALSO harder to read than it would have been when they were last together!! but there are clearly gears and cogs shifting and ticking and whirring behind his eyes, and the fact that the framing calls attention to nhs noticing jgy in this moment when it’s quite clear no one else does is one of many hints the show is dropping for us that nhs is more than just a lackadaisical and absent-minded second son. he notices things that no one else does—but, as with jgy, we are left to guessing as to what he is thinking, and what conclusions he is drawing.

Seriously? That's just ludicrous! Please don't listen to such nonsense 🫂 that's so far from the truth I'm surprised people are even saying something like that!

The scene in question clearly shows WWX intentions from the start. There's no room for arguments or interpretation here, it's pretty clear-cut! But, just to prove this ridiculous take is completely wrong, let's have a look through the text - to put your mind at ease 😉

So, prior to the scene in question, Wangxian have had some pretty poignant moments together. Not only has WWX fully realised his feelings for LWJ, but he's started to understand he has had them for a very long time - thanks to the whole scene with the married couple making him realise his need to tease LWJ was not as straightforward as he originally assumed back as a teen. He is also beginning to take real notice of how LWJ treats him "differently" and hopes that it might be in the same romantic way he evidently feels toward him. Then of course, we have WWX even praying to be "tethered" to LWJ for the rest of his life and secretly declares their two bows as part of their marriage bows!

With all that in mind... Why the hell would WWX get LWJ drunk just to sleep with him 😂 Getting someone drunk to sleep with them is usually (but not always of course) because they feel they will not have a chance with them when the person is sober! WWX thinks he might have a chance to be with the person he loves, he wouldn't ruin that just for (his first ever!) quick fumble in the bath sheets!

We can clearly see the rationale behind WWX's actions:

Just as he was about to pour the liquor, he hesitated, taking that split second to warn himself. If he doesn’t drink, then let it go. If he does, just ask a couple things. Don’t do anything else—just figure out how exactly he feels. He won’t remember anything once he sobers up, anyway… It won’t affect anything.

He swore this to himself before he steadily filled the wine cup and pushed it toward Lan Wangji with perfect nonchalance. He was already prepared for Lan Wangji to reject the drink—but maybe the other man had his own worries, for he picked up the cup without a single glance and tossed it back in one go.

WWX literally tells himself and the reader that he has no ulterior motives. I know he can fib at times, but we know WWX is not some depraved sex offender gagging to jump LWJ's bones! Up until this point he's been rather chaste and sweet! He cares far too much about LWJ to take advantage of him. It's more than obvious WWX has a plan to use Drunkji's trait of speaking candidly and without restraint to find out how the man truly feels about him without having to risk asking it becoming awkward and being rejected if he were sober.

“Let’s play a different game. Just like before, I’ll ask questions and you answer them. No lying…”

He had only just uttered the word “play” when Lan Wangji abruptly agreed, “All right!”

Of course, once LWJ is drunk, things don't go as planned and Drunkji decides to go off on a little adventure, dragging WWX along by the hand for the ride. This eventually results in LWJ becoming dirty and WWX offering to help him wash - none of which were part of WWX's original intentions. WWX even tries to leave LWJ to bathe alone!

Wei Wuxian heaved a sigh of relief. “Take your time soaking. I’ll go outside.” He moved to step outside, get some fresh air and cool himself down, but then heard a splash.

In fact, he tries a number of times to distance himself in such a steamy situation. But LWJ is insisting he stay and being very huffy when he tries to leave, so WWX reluctantly complies.

Here we see WWX's motivations reiterated yet again:

And so, despite getting Lan Wangji drunk, Wei Wuxian spent most of the night waffling and didn’t manage to ask him a single thing. It wasn’t that it slipped his mind. In fact, he hadn’t forgotten for a moment that the reason he had given Lan Wangji alcohol was to ask him, Hanguang-jun, how do you really see me? But every time the words were about to leave his mouth, he found all kinds of excuses to back down—There’s no rush; I’ll play along with him for now, wait until he’s had enough fun before I ask, or I can’t be so flippant about this, gotta be a little more serious. I’ll ask again after we’ve sat down…

But despite the many excuses that had him dragging his heels, the real reason was probably that he was afraid. He was afraid of getting a different answer from the one he hoped to hear.

WWX only wanted to get him drunk so he could ask LWJ how he felt about him without making it awkward. He loves him so much he's frightened of losing him if LWJ's answer was not the same as his. This way, he can find out first and ensure they feel the same before confessing when the man is sober. If his answer was not what he hoped, WWX fully intended to keep his own feelings to himself and stay with him as a friend instead, anything to be by his side. He was frightened of losing the one thing he ever truly wanted for himself.

As we all know, things escalated quickly... and WWX was lost in a blazing fire of desire and passion. We, as the reader, can see LWJ had long since sobered up - thanks to the subtle hints with his speech and actions no longer childlike, as they are when he's drunk. I always felt WWX had picked up on this and at least assumed LWJ was sober by the time they became physically intimate.

Although Wei Wuxian didn’t know exactly when he had sobered up, there was one thing he could be sure of. Since this was Lan Wangji’s reaction now that he was clearheaded, it meant he’d been an unwilling participant in what had transpired earlier.

To me, this indicates WWX not only thought LWJ was sober, but he also thought the other was a willing participant in their love making. He certainly would not have reacted in such a heartbroken way if he had always intended to take advantage of a drunken LWJ just to have sex with him. Overwhelming guilt and disgust washes over him and suddenly WWX is blaming himself for everything that transpired.

I'm not entirely sure if they mean it was implied in the above scene or the Guanyin Temple confession scene. But even from the above, we can see it was not planned or intentional in any way. If they are unhinged enough to interpret WWX's confession during the hostage party as him admitting otherwise - they are completely twisting his words!

“Lan Zhan! Lan Wangji! Hanguang-jun! I…I genuinely wanted to sleep with you earlier!”

It's more than obvious this is NOT, in any way, a confession that WWX got LWJ drunk to sleep with him! WWX is trying to clear the misunderstanding up as quickly and efficiently as possible - and if it shocks JGY into letting his guard down long enough so he could escape his clutches and run straight into LWJ's strong arms, then that's a bonus! WWX could not bear the thought of LWJ being in any distress or pain because of him and he had to get him to realise how much he loved him as soon as possible. It's brilliant! He is literally just telling LWJ that he actually had wanted to sleep with him because he really really REALLY loves him and not because he is some flippant man who slept with a friend in the heat of the moment because he wanted to or to "thank" him in some way - as he had alluded to earlier in an attempt damage control. That's what the above is. Not WWX revealing he had intended to get LWJ drunk to sleep with him from the very beginning!

Overall, such a claim doesn't even make sense. Why would WWX get LWJ drunk to just sleep with him if he already suspected the man had feelings for him? What would that even achieve? I'm going to put this down to Wangxian haters trying to pick and pull at threads that aren't even there to begin with.

didn’t wwx briefly imagine that some lusty mountain beast was the one that kissed him? we could go that route, or - hear me out, scum villain style papapa plant pollen, with the added bonus of bringing one’s true feelings to the forefront of the whole ‘pls dick me down’ thing that’ll be going on as well. ah yes, mt baifeng, the home of lusty beasts and suspiciously convenient sex plants.

anyways, you can’t tell me that wwx didn’t have at least some very un-het and un-platonic things going on for lwj in his first life.

i want all of that shit to hit him like a goddamn truck.

so. wei wuxian, having had his fill of the sunshine, jumps off the tree and meanders around, accidentally stumbles into a pile of nice-smelling flowers. like, really, unnaturally nice-smelling, in ways that flowers shouldn’t be. more specifically, they smell like sandalwood, which is, obviously, wood and not flowers. strange, isn’t it? and if wei wuxian also happens to be getting weirdly hard from the scent - well, he’s a healthy young man in the middle of a hunt, isn’t he? things happen! dicks happen! it is what it is.

lan wangji, who has been following behind him like the cute little repressed creep that he is, sees wei wuxian sitting unmoving in the flowers, practically coated in a thick layer of dusty ass pollen, two fingers close to a mental breakdown about the state of his dick. and so, understandably a little concerned, he walks closer. when wei wuxian remains unmoving, he does the gentlemanly thing and calls out a regular-old, lan wangji style, not hot and not cold, exactly like room-temperature water, ‘wei ying?’

wei wuxian hears him and. the truck hits. strike one!!!

immediately, he knows who it is, but what surprises him is the way his thighs clench together at the sound (sex pollen let’s go) and more importantly, the sheer amount of feeling that surges into his chest (feelings pollen let’s really go) an all-consuming mix of admiration, joy, desire, and the straight-up burn of love. no running, no hiding, my homegirl pollen lets him know exactly what he’s been repressing, and wei wuxian chokes under the weight of it.

if lan wangji was a two on the scale of concern before, he’s now on a solid eight. hurrying forward, he drops onto his knees next to wwx, reaching out and calling his name again.

(now, sure, the pollen can affect lwj, as a treat, but this ain’t about him. he’s already pretty horny for wwx all the time, plus he’s so aware of his feelings that the pollen is a step down in intensity, actually)

wwx knows that seeing lwj right now is a Certified Bad Idea, but he’s too high on pollen to care much, pulling off his blindfold and springing onto lwj. cue uncontrollable love confession as wwx practically vomits his messy feelings all over the poor guy, who, on one hand, is absolutely elated and also horny bc the way wwx is gripping him is Not Subtle.

But. lwj being lwj, quickly realises something is wrong, figuring out that the pollen is mad suspicious and telling wwx that he doesn’t know wtf he’s saying, let’s just all calm down now and get some help (while horny gripping, lwj u freak)

of course, wwx has to debunk him asap, so he pulls out every embarrassing receipt out of the vault in an effort to get hanguang-jun’s pants off, logically and methodically. their first meeting? wwx was so thrilled that he didn’t actually mind losing his emperors smile. library pavilion days? all the better to see lan zhan’s pretty face with. waterborne abyss near-death experience? heavens, lan zhan’s arms were really…

qishan discussion conference? it was all wwx’s fault. accident what accident. he knew what he wanted, lwj’s attention and his ribbon - even though he didn’t know lwj would get so angry, he just wanted lwj to look at him, okay! you think his hand could slip?? please!! he’s more likely to shoot himself in the foot with an arrow!

xuanwu cave? don’t think he’s weird, lan zhan, but it was kinda nice to spend some time alone together, even if their third wheel was a giant murderous tortoise…

not to mention the sunshot campaign - you think wwx liked leaving lwj in the dust every time he brought up his cultivation? no!! don’t blame him, lan zhan, he just didn’t wanna be dragged to gusu for punishment, nor dirty lwj with all the corpse fumes!! (wow this guy is embarrassing)

after this verbal thesis, lwj is left blinking. wwx, who is about to lose his mind, pounces again. lwj, having all avenues of resistance exhausted, just. does not. resist.

in fact, he is equally if not more enthusiastic as wwx.

yes they get freaky in the flowers. yes lwj has to confess as well, and gets wheedled into a matching play-by-play of wangxian’s greatest hits with wwx being the prompter. yes they get married live happily ever after and lwj gets to fuck a new core into wwx. the enddddd I’m just so so so normal about these two.

Stupid ways CQL changed the story from MDZS:

First on most people's list is gonna be the gay, and I agree on a political and societal level that this is an egregious change I can't get on board with. I will say though that on a personal preference level, I don't think the romance really adds much; the magic of this story is not the gay and I'm just as happy with WWX/LWJ have the intense, weird, unstated relationship they have in the drama as I am with the ultimately gay relationship they have in the book.

The Yin Iron plot in the drama is so bad, you guys. So bad. This includes a) there being multiple parts of the Yin Iron, b) WRH having some of it and creating puppets with it, c) LWJ/WWX going to search for it. Did they add this so WWX looks less terrible? So it looks like all he's doing is fighting fire with fire? I hate it. There was a knife fight, and WWX invented guns. That's literally the point of him; that's why he's terrifying; he invented something that was beyond his means to control and it got out of hand and everyone wanted the gun and there was only one. The plot in the drama is just SO STUPID. I like WWX and LWJ getting to bond when they search for it and the trip to the bunny cave, but you could really have them bond and get bunnies a different way.

The most egregious thing, imo, is how the Wen remnants are first portrayed in the drama. After the Wen Clan is defeated we see constant abuse of these prisoners, often pretty much in front of everyone's face. At one point they are even paraded in front of everyone and WWX is the only one who has a problem with it. I get that WWX is the hero, but it makes everyone else look super morally reprehensible. Like, how are we supposed to get behind LWJ if he can stomach that. Actually, forget LWJ, because I actually think the scene in the rain with the umbrella establishes that LWJ is simply unwilling to defy social convention/popular opinion, and while I think it is a slight twist on LWJ's character, it's not a big of one as you might suppose, given the novel. But Lan Xichen? The character who is supposed to be the absolute paragon of kindness, goodness, and compassion? It's always sat wrong with me. Anyway, the novel basically shows that the poor treatment of the Wens is mostly hidden from view of the public, and WWX only finds out because WQ goes to him for help.

Replacing NMJ's dismembered arm with an angry sword spirit was super confusing. Why does the sword spirit attack people's arms, and why does it ONLY do that at Mo Manor? It's stupid and confusing. I assume this was censorship as well? Unwilling to show some dismembered corpses?

Speaking on NMJ, the character is pointless in the drama. I think you really needed to show the way he helped and trusted Meng Yao and how utterly betrayed by Meng Yao NMJ was to really understand his character.

Speaking of which, it is so completely ludicrous that the Wen Clan attacks the Unclean Realm before the Wen Sect Training/Tortoise of Slaughter sequence. It does say in the book that the Wen Clan and Nie Clan are kind of in constant skirmishes, but that's why the Wen Clan heavily attacks Cloud Recess first and then goes for Lotus Pier; the point is that the Unclean Realm is too well defended. That said--I still find it outrageous that in the book everyone (except WWX, perpetually clueless) seems to know about the attack on Cloud Recesses but sends their children to the Wen Clan anyway. Like I get they're all intimidated but that is too much.

WWX falling off the cliff. So silly. LWJ never would have allowed that to happen. What was JC even doing? That said, the actual death in the book is so unclear; I get that it was the spiritual rebound, but what was JC doing then? What did it look like? I found it really weird how the book just did not illustrate a few very key climactic plot points.

Weirdly, JFM. I actually like the guy better in the drama, but that's a problem. He really is a terrible father to JC, and his terribleness really helps explain why JC is like he is.

ok it's time for my Official Jiang Cheng Ship Opinions Post. buckle in this is gonna take a bit

Xicheng: I like it in 1 extremely specific circumstance (bonding over very similar experiences post-canon) but I've only seen that done well like. twice. NEEDS to have good characterization (also rare unfortunately) and take into account what they can and can't do as their own sect leaders with regards to courtship/marriage.

Chengqing: perfect in every way. that's it that's all I need to say.

Sangcheng: ehhhhh? Cute in Cloud Recesses summer camp era, not feasible post-canon due to irreconcilable differences in worldview and how much danger it's acceptable to put Jin Ling in.

Zhancheng: honestly I prefer this to be platonic. Hatefucking is not my jam and LWJ is Wei-Ying-sexual in canon anyway. Give Jiang Cheng a friend who is as weirdly obsessed with Wei Wuxian as he is but in a slightly different way. I want to see them coming to terms with that.

Ningcheng: again, someone just as weirdly obsessed with Wei Wuxian, but a little to the left. I don't think either one of them is ever going to look at the other and not see "the guy WWX likes better than me." Maybe someday they'll form a relationship that isn't based entirely around Wei Wuxian, but it seems kind of unlikely.

Chengyao: I'm actually coming around to this a bit recently? Again, it really needs to keep good characterization at the forefront and consider their positions as individual sect leaders, and remember that their "divorced couple energy" is part of the Guanyin Temple shitshow and not the way they would usually behave, especially for Jin Ling's sake. I want to see more fics where Meng Yao grows up with the Jiang sect so that Jiang Cheng is attached to him from the very beginning.

Mingcheng: meh. I don't really think about this ship that much because it honestly doesn't compel me at all. sorry to the mingcheng enjoyers it there I simply do not get it

Chengxuan: same as above, I don't really get this one. Their dynamic is just not that interesting to me.

Chengyi: that is a child. hard no on this one.

Miancheng: kinda cute? I like it when Jiang Cheng recruits her into the Jiang after she gives up on the Jin, it's a fun idea, but I think I like them better as friends.

Ruocheng: no. just no.

Zhucheng (chengliu? Wen Zhuliu and JC): also no.

Chengsu: I could get behind the idea of JGY desperately contacting Jiang Cheng and being like "help I just found out my fiancee is my sister can you please pretend you've been in love with her all this time and get married to her instead??? I'll negotiate to get you more Jin Ling rights if you do." she fits JC's list of desirable qualities in a wife. unfortunately she gets like 6 seconds of screen time and then dies so we really don't know very much about her, which makes it a bit hard to form a strong opinion on the ship

Other Chengsu? Sucheng/Mincheng/Chengshan/whatever this is: I actually think it's interesting that Su She and Jiang Cheng share the trait of "treat them nicely within this narrow window of time in their life in order to get them to become loyal to you forever, otherwise fuck you." It's possible that if Su She had grown up with the Jiang the two of them would have found some common ground and maybe become friends. I'm more interested in non-romantic interactions here

Cheng...yang? what do you call the Xue Yang/Jiang Cheng ship? Xuecheng? idk. again, not really my jam.

Chengjiao. Lingcheng? Jiang Cheng/Wang Lingjiao. Do people even ship this? I could see it as character development for her I guess. At this point I'm just fishing for possible pairings.

and finally, saved for last...

Xiancheng: this isn't romantic or sexual or platonic, it's all three and also a secret fourth thing that's more intense than all of them put together. As a ship, I don't prefer it, because it's too easy to flatten it out into either a boring cutesy fluffy cliche or a boring jealous/possessive boyfriend type thing. I need to see them being weird about each other in a way that no one can possibly identify, especially themselves. They'll die for each other. They'll live for each other. They'll destroy themselves and be happy about it as long as they believe that the other is going to be okay. You really can't make it as simple as "yeah these two want to fuck."

“Clash of Immortals” / COI is an upcoming project I’m super excited about with Demon WWX and Angel LWJ. I use my own version of hell/heaven for this, allowing for lots of fun details and some creatures unique to my universe, including A-Yuan who is a “Garden of Eden” [not drawn yet].

Information i can share!

Demon WWX / Wei Wuxian - Demon type: A black-blue feathered “Captive” or “Fallen” - a type of demon caused by cutting an angel’s ascension short as they are being lifted into the heavens, caused by demons trying to prevent as many new angels from entering heaven as possible. This means originally he was supposed to become an angel, but his line was cut and he was dragged past hell’s gates, causing him to descend instead of ascend once he passed through the gate.

This leaves a nasty scar on his back from the hook used to pull him up [if ascended the hook will disappear harmlessly] and this is why they are also nicknamed "Hook Demons" as they will sometimes even go around with the hook still in their back, just filed down, because they are going through a vital area and can't be fully removed.

Angel LWJ / Lan Wangji - Nearly a white wing, shares a nearly identical wing color to LXC, His is white with minimal jade undertones; he has MANY piercings to compensate his abilities in order to prevent his body from tearing apart. He does however have a unique trait- two of his flight feathers [one on each side] are completely black [I will test this with his design so don't hold me to this]. After his descent heaven is a bit perplexed- they allow this type of movement but LWJ is a very important for heaven’s force of angels, as one of the most powerful.

Fun Facts ;]

When they see each other for the first time as angel/demon they bristle, [in my universe, angels and demons feel wrong when in each other's presence, even if they're very soft and sweet. It'd probably be a good mirror to how LWJ and WWX don't necessarily get along in the actual series when they first meet too.] but then it’s a cheery reunion- LWJ might be somewhat uncomfortable, but WWX tames the sensation more easily as he is nearly unrestrained in power.

Someone comes within 50 feet of A-Yuan and Wei Wuxian sends the person’s heart to their throat just by looking at them despite this being a bad habit he probably shouldn’t use around the "Garden of Eden."*

*original species invented which will be explained better in story, I don't wanna spoil too much

and then we have "BED" HABITS

WWX is aggressive as all hell with everyone else besides his kind [in hell anyway bc he doesn't like everyone's attitude] -not in an intimate way he wouldn't do anything with anyone else- but becomes tame with LWJ, it's like a switch gets flipped. LWJ is the growling demon in bed while WWX is the purring angel, despite their anatomy quite clearly showing otherwise; and let me tell u I love purring demons and growling angels

NO ONE believes him when LWJ says wwx isnt the aggressive one, thinking the demon is tainting their precious second jade despite wwx not having a choice about his demonhood. LWJ be like: we still husbands regardless of who's the more aggressive one anyway. Yes, I’ve just decided we’re still married no extra ceremony required.

Special Lan Xichen analysis post

As I’ve previously said, Lan Xichen is a very flawed person and that’s okay! I want to examine him at several parts of the story and pick apart some of the criticism he gets. So let’s talk Lan Xichen!

Siege of the Burial Mounds: I really like this one shot from the donghua where the Sect Leaders of each sect (NMJ, JGS, and JC) are shown at the siege and beside them representing the Lan sect is… Lan Qiren. Not LXC. Setting aside the perfect storm JGS set up for the siege to occur (I don’t care who led it; JGS is the problem post-Sunshot Campaign about 99% of the time), I think this is because LXC stayed back in the Cloud Recesses with LWJ tending to his wounds post-whipping. Not assuming LXC’s absence, however, the siege was led by JC and orchestrated (because separating the twin prides of Yunmeng and artificially creating tension within the jianghu was a deliberate action) by JGS. Not saying LXC’s participation is okay just because he wasn’t the driving force behind it but imagine if the Lan sect stood against the other sect’s wishes. Standing up for WWX would have been the right thing to do but were the Lans in any position to oppose the siege with their sect in the process of rebuilding? Going along with the siege, to me, is an act of cowardice, not malice. Extra note: we see his capability of defending the Wen remnants when JGS is talking shit about them and WWX but he is shut down immediately and does not speak up any further. This is not a matter of hypocrisy; it’s a matter of fearing the consequences.

NMJ’s death: this is rocky territory. It was a bad idea full stop to force proximity between them hoping everything would sort itself out. But you simply cannot blame him for NMJ’s death because he couldn’t have known. One could argue that he endangered JGY by forcing him to be near someone who tried to kill him several times. I think that’s an oversimplification of the situation. To me, this was a gesture of trust. Trust that NMJ will make an attempt to restrain himself/get better and trust that JGY will aid him in doing so. As we know, this trust is misguided. He’s rather naive to think this would work. But he is humored anyway by two people with bad intentions toward each other. LXC is not at fault for this going south when it was at a certain point inevitable. But he did enable it.

That one line about WWX being LWJ’s only mistake: I get so defensive because honestly I’d have said much worse in his position! Think about what he knows about Wangxian’s relationship leading up to it. He saw his brother devastated that the man he loved was being corrupted and harmed by his cultivation, watched as LWJ despaired over him and fought the elders and got whipped for him. He’s only seen his brother suffer due to his love for WWX. Was saying this okay? No. Consider the circumstances surrounding this line, however. Also criticizing him for this is just plain nit-picky to me lol there’s plenty this man has actually done wrong to criticize him for.

And another thing: stop saying he favored JGY over LWJ!! The entire point of his denial surrounding JGY is that there was no solid, tangible proof that was damning enough for him to outright condemn JGY without some level of unfair assumption! He was trying to be fair about the investigation! Might I add: WWX was the only one who saw NMJ’s head in Jinlintai. Had it been LWJ to see it and approach him I think the story would’ve gone differently! But it wasn’t. And he wanted to have faith in his friend from an underprivileged background constantly facing slander and mistreatment despite doing good things for the world against the jianghu’s wishes because isn’t that what LWJ did with WWX? LXC learned his lesson from WWX’s death, he just practiced it on the wrong person.

What have we learned? Lan Xichen was complicit in and enabled a lot of Bad Things if he was not an active participant, most of it willingly and some of it unknowingly. He’s unfair sometimes. He’s weak willed and lacks the strength to actually stand up for anyone in a meaningful way. He’s naive. In my opinion, he was in denial for a large portion of his story about the harmful effects of his actions.

And I adore him! He’s got the capacity for so much good and he fails to live up to it! He wants to be righteous and he doesn’t know how without putting the people he is responsible for at risk! He thinks he can do conflict resolution and he just can’t! By the end of the story, he is painfully aware of all of this and he lives knowing he did the wrong thing over and over and over again. He got the only outcome he could ever have. I don’t think he deserved his ending but I do think he might have earned it.

wwx sucked in another deep breath, the world slowly falling away to repetition. Of course, he was still himself, and occasionally some thought or another burbled through his brain, dragging his attention away from his breath and lungs and the stretch of his body pressing into the ground, but overall, he was pretty damn successful! He was pretty sure he deserved a reward for just this—just his ability to sit quietly for so long—alone, and he was going to be sure to mention it to lwj once this was all over.

“wy,” lwj said in quiet reprimand, his voice floating across the room from somewhere behind him.

“Sorry, Lan-laoshi,” wwx said, smiling slightly to himself as he stopped wiggling his hips in anticipation of what he could get out of his dom as a reward. The man was probably used to his subs either not asking for anything—they were already being paid bank, after all—or requesting the most insane things. Shit like Fabergé eggs because they’d seen one on a TV show and suddenly had a burning desire for one. He definitely wanted to lean into that insane, but insane in the little things that are inexpensive, but a massive pain in the ass make me happy way. He didn’t need anything expensive—not in the monetary sense, anyways.

wwx startled out of his meandering thoughts about rewards for his quietude when the object of his thoughts placed a hand on his hips.

“Relax,” the man said, his hand simply remaining as a grounding force on wwx’s body as he returned to breathing.

Vaguely, wwx wondered what in the world his dom had sensed to know he hadn’t been completely relaxed anymore. His hips had definitely stopped swaying. He’d thought he’d fallen back into stillness.

More than a few people had told them they could hear him thinking—and not in the you're speaking to yourself way. He’d thought they were crazy—you couldn’t hear someone’s brain turning over, obviously!—but maybe there actually was something to that idea?

lwj’s hand pressed against him slightly, as though the man could still something hear him mulling over the fact that his thoughts were detectable. He didn’t say anything, but the reminder that he was in the room with a now verified mind reader sent wwx’s mind spiralling back towards earth.

In and out. In and out. "because I didn't want to see you like this", wei wuxian wiping away jiang chengs tears, the way that throughout their entire conversation until that point you can see wei wuxian almost reach out to touch jiang cheng several times before clenching his fingers again, the fact that even tho they reveal secrets and give apologies and explanations it is Not all said and done, their relationship, realistically, is not fixed with a single conversation, there is still work to do but you know that it will be done

Once during the 13 years LWJ was mourning for WWX, he goes to a discussion conference at jinlintai with LXC. JGY arranges acrobatic performaces for his guests and employs a particular man to seduce LWJ. LWJ is interested in all the ways the acrobat's body twists and JGY smiles seeing his interest. LWJ is uncomfortable and leaves the hall only for this acrobat -named meng something - to go after him and prance on him.

This Meng guy tries to make LWJ give into him, says he saw the way LWJ was looking at him while he was bending his body, says he can bend his body in may other ways. It goes into assault territory since LWJ is not interested in looking this guy the way he used to look at WWX eventhough he clearly feels aroused. He tells the guy as much, that he doesn't want to fuck the meng-guy and the meng guy leaves him alone.

Turns out, JGY drugged both LXC and LWJ with some aphrodisiac. JGY made advances on LXC and succeeded. And he made the meng guy seduce LWJ but the meng guy failed.

I'm a girl of a heavier build so I couldn't help but associate myself with bigger characters and... well. Mdzs is not the greatest thing for this. Because like... who do we have here? (Only talking about the donghua because everyone is slim in the CQL except some older men)

Mo Ziyuan.

Okay, I will tolerate this one, it kinda makes sence for him to be fat. He is described as looking "sickly" in the novel, so it may be interpreted as obese. Plus contrast with MXY being underweight.

Jin Zixun.

I don't get the decision behind his design. Just... Why? The donghua decided that every bully (except Wen Chao) needs to be fat? And no, he isn't described like that in the novel, he's actually just more broad-shouldered and stocky and conventionally "handsome". I would totally change his design.

Also we have this guy.

The unnamed Jiang disciple. And he is a positive character!! Oh, he was such a joy to me, so precious. Sadly he is just a background character who appears only in a few scenes so we don't really see him as a person, but he still makes the thing much much better

Overall, for me it's pretty frustrating that I look at myself and my subconscious is telling me that "should" associate myself with characters like Jin Zixun. And who wants to be him?... I don't want to. It really adds to the insecurity, unlike other fandoms which I've been in, I have a feeling that I shouldn't show my photos to my co-fandom ppl for example because of my bodytype. And the only positive plus size character is super backgrounds

So the thing is that I just really need more positive representation of weight in there. Some little but still heartwarming example is this scene in chibi donghua (MDZS Q) in ep 4 I guess where everyone has gained weight and it's treated not as a catastrophe but like a pretty normal thing? I have put on some weight in the past months and this scene saves me so much. It like tells that it's normal, even the cool characters like Jiang Cheng can gain weight and nothing is exceptionally wrong with me.

I have also seen a mention that wwx has gained some weight in postcanon (makes sence! mxy was malnourished I think) but only one person was saying this and I haven't seen it anywhere else

So... yeah. That's why I *might* seem too much on this theme but it's just me trying to deal with my insecurity and eating disorder. I just want to see some "cool" and admirable characters sharing my bodytype, because that makes me feel so much confidence. I headcanon Nie Huaisang as chubby for example, because that suits him (he doesn't really fight or do training like other cultivators do + it adds to the "cute and innocent" looks) and he is very cool!

“Ah, I guess not this one either, huh,” he sighed exaggeratedly, putting the toy on a table and reaching for another one.

A-Ling burst into tears.

“Oh no!” gasped Zixuan. He threw aside the toy and begged, “There, A-Ling, it’s gone! The bad toy is gone! Stop crying now, alright?”

Jiang Yanli couldn’t suppress a smile as she watched her son play his father like a fiddle.

A-Ling calmed down, drying his crocodile tears, but there was a wrinkle between his brows and his lips jutted out in a mighty pout.

“So cute!” whispered her husband delightedly. It seemed his son’s pout was just as satisfying to him as a smile.

Her son was very cute, yes. But something nagged at her. Something that was just out of reach… from a long time ago… Then it clicked.

She gasped, “He looks just like his uncle!” Then she burst into giggles.

“Ah?! Ah… I guess he does?” agreed Zixuan, but with much doubt in his voice. “A-Ling is much cuter, though. Clan Leader Jiang does not hold a handle.”

The giggles got cut short at once, leaving behind awkward air. “Hahaha… of course he is,” she laughed weakly, trying to cover for her shock.

She could not fault Zixuan for coming to that conclusion.

But she was thinking of an entirely different uncle.

It pained her to think that she might never see her son and Wei Wuxian next to each other, might never compare their pouts in real time, might never watch them bicker, as she was sure they would have, with Wei Wuxian’s penchant for teasing and A-Ling inheriting half his genes from his father.

She shook her head lightly, getting rid of unwanted thoughts. This was her precious time with her lovable family. No negativity allowed. She didn’t want anything to taint the memories of her time with Wei Wuxian, either, as they spent their childhoods together as siblings.

Instead, she directed her mind to the last time she had seen her brother pout seriously. It was a much different pout to the fake one he put on most often, whenever he wanted something from her, or tried wheedling free things from the stall owners stationed outside Lotus Pier, or pretended to be offended when flirting with pretty ladies.

It was not often he pouted for real, too, so she treasured each time. The last time was not long before the war, before the Wen indoctrination. In fact, it was after Wei Wuxian had come back earlier from the lectures at Cloud Recesses, at least in body. There was no denying his mind was still in Cloud Recesses, considering how much he complained about the food, the boring classes, the long punishments… the list was long.

Jiang Yanli was sure he did not really mind any of these things, however, for each time he brought Cloud Recesses up to complain, there was also a certain “Lan Zhan'' involved, and every time Wei Wuxian’s face brightened, his eyes glimmered with enthusiasm, and hands gesticulated more vigorously when talking about Lan-er-gongzi. In one breath he was a boring fuddy-duddy and the most interesting person Wei Wuxian had met at the lectures. A stick-in-the-mud who would never get married and the most beautiful cultivator. Rules-obsessed and so strong no one else but Wei Wuxian could match him.

She could only hope Lan-er-gongzi thought about Wei Wuxian just as often, and with as much zeal.

It was the first time she had seen her brother so interested in another person. She could not help but tease him.

“Going by your words, Lan-er-gongzi seems to be the most amazing person in the whole world, A-Xian.”

And at first he had not even noticed the teasing – he had taken her words at face value, agreeing furiously.

“That’s exactly it, shijie!”

So she had to up her ante. And the next time Wei Wuxian recounted her with his adventures with Lan Zhan, ending his story with a wistful,

“Ah, I wish you could meet him… I had invited him so many times, you know, but he would reject me every time! Rude!”

she had answered, “Well, there is a sure way for us to meet!”

“Oh?” Her brother had perked up, his fake pout disappearing.

She had laughed then, “Yes. You have to marry him, A-Xian, and then he definitely won’t be able to avoid visiting and meeting his dagu!”

And then it appeared – the pout, the real one, lips fuller than ever with the way they jutted out, cheeks rounding like peaches and pinking with a similar color too, eyebrows twitching into a frown. He had even crossed his arms.

“Shijie! Don’t say nonsense!” He had complained.

She had relented and placated him, stretching up to pet his head. Perhaps she had stepped on an invisible toe and he wasn’t yet ready to treat it, ignoring it instead. It was a first for him, after all. There had never been anyone like Lan-er-gongzi before then. It was better not to push yet. She would have more time later, when he grew up a bit and noticed his feelings.

Or so she had thought.

“A-Li?”

Jiang Yanli blinked, coming back to the present. She smiled at her husband reassuringly.

“Just lost in thoughts. Any success?” she asked, genuinely interested.

Jin Zixuan’s worried face bloomed with happiness. “Ah, I think I got one! A small one, really, but it was there! Come on, A-Ling, show your mother that you love your dad, too!”

As she watched her ecstatic husband coo over her smiling baby, she could not help but hope her son would inherit not just his uncle’s pout, but also his wonderful smile.

WIP Wednesday

Got tagged by @materassassino while I was actively writing, which seemed like a sign, so here, have WIP bits!

From file "Meng Yao gets one of those time travel redo things":

“My mother has recently left Yunping, and is seeking more respectable employment. She heard that Madam Qin was a lover of music and wanted to offer her services here; she is a talented singer, and plays pipa.” When she didn't reply immediately, the boy continued with, “She is also a skilled painter, recites poetry tolerably well, plays weiqi, and is an excellent conversationalist, should Madam Qin desire simple companionship–”

Briefly stunned by the audacity of this proposal, Enhua found her voice again and said, slightly breathless with shock, “While her gift is certainly generous, her presumption is unwelcome, to think that I would bring someone of such a profession into my husband's house.”

The boy Meng Yao's back went stiff, but his tone remained even and pleasant. “That is…understandable, of course. But, ah.” He glanced from side to side, with an uncertainty almost charming on one so young. “May this one beg a moment to speak with Madam Qin more privately?”

Enhua stared at him, the back of her neck prickling again. More audacity, and yet. There must be some basis for it, and she found that she was desperate to find out what. “Shanmei,” she said, quietly, “take the guards and wait outside. Gao Die will remain to attend me.” At the shocked looks of both maids, she added an irritable, “I am perfectly capable of defending myself against an underfed child. Go, now.”

Once Shanmei and the guards were out of the room and the door closed behind them, Enhua nodded to Meng Yao, who stepped closer with another bow. His voice was so, so sweet and even, soft enough not to carry out of the room but clear enough that understanding him was no struggle at all. “While Madam Qin’s hesitance is understandable, as I said, my mother thought that she and Madam Qin might be able to find some common ground on which to build a real friendship.” A pause, and he took a deep breath before continuing. “After all, this Meng Yao and Madam Qin's daughter share a father in common.”

There was a teenage boy sitting on the floor across from the bed, watching him with the kind of sharp, fire-eyed look that Wei Wuxian remembered seeing on the meaner street kids when he’d been on the streets himself. That was, Wei Wuxian realized, he was probably a teenager, and for that matter only probably a boy—his clothes fit poorly enough that his actual body was entirely concealed, and he looked underfed enough that he honestly could be any age from twelve to twenty-five. Honestly, there was a decent chance that he wasn’t even alive, just a hungry ghost in stolen clothes waiting to see if there was anything in him worth consuming.

He lifted his flute near his mouth, hating that his hands shook, and said, “Are you human?”

The boy’s dark eyes gleamed. “Gege asks fun questions. Depends on who you ask, but I think I’m human. I eat, I piss, I bleed. Seems human enough to me. What happened to your golden core?”

This little rat was a cultivator? “It’s gone. How did I get here?”

“Carried you. Thought you’d be heavy, but I’ve stolen live goats that weighed more’n you. How’d you get out of the Burial Mounds?”

“I didn’t. I brought them out with me.”

“Ooh, gege gives fun answers too.”

“Hmph. I could get myself a service top with a fat rack if I wanted to.”

“No, you couldn't.”

“*sputtering* Why not?”

“Our temperaments are completely different.”

“How, bro?”

“I am regal. I have a manner that says, ‘bring me breakfast in bed and then give me a footrub while I eat and if that goes well maybe I’ll step on you later.’ You have the manner of a purse dog who does taxes.”

“Bro, I’m an accountant, obviously I do taxes.”

“You're only proving my point. Anyway, I have a natural poise that attracts service tops like catnip. You, on the other hand, have big wet eyes that say, ‘if you bully me, I’ll get an erection.’ We’re entirely different.”
