Honestly kinda ready for the holidays to be over.

Ever since my mom died, I've tried my best to get into the holiday spirit, both for myself and to celebrate it for my mom since Christmas was her favorite holiday. The first Christmas without her was incredibly hard and I couldn't do it, but I managed to do okay with holiday spirit in the years after, even if I was also sad too.

But this year? I can't do it, I've been trying so fucking hard to be positive and feel the holiday cheer or whatever but I just can't this year. I want Christmas to be done already, and that's depressing.

did you ever notice how merry doesn't actually volunteer for the quest? pippin is the one who assumes he and merry will go, gandalf vouches for them both, but merry doesn't say a word for the entire encounter. it's a stark difference from his insistence on going with frodo in the conspiracy chapter, and i think it's because he's totally lost his confidence. in the beginning, he's very confident and fully believes he'll be able to lead the group through the old forest to bree with no trouble, and then they all almost die twice basically immediately. notice that when they get to bree, he refuses to go to the prancing pony with the others, deciding instead to stay in their room alone? and then of course he gets attacked by nazgul, which definitely doesn't help matters. i think by the time they get to Rivendell, he no longer believes himself capable of helping frodo. he'll do it, obviously, if frodo or gandalf or elrond or pippin ask him to, but i think he's at a point where he no longer believes he'll be any good.

HERES the fun thing about this one. The reason I never posted a third chapter was at the time. I didn't have a holiday to match.

Since we go through Christmas and then New Years, I believe the next logical one was valentines day, but when I started writing it that went into a different direction entirely (it ended up being number four in fact, about Eddie yelling about the evils of valentines day on top of tables. Which later spawned a third WIP, number 21, wherein Eddie's having a speech on top of Steve's Beamer in an ill fated attempt to show the kids Steve is in fact, a Totally Evil Joke Asshole after Steve failed to raise to any other bait Eddie had given him. Spoilers Steve doesn't raise to that bait either lol.)

So I don't have a snippet for this one. I do have a question though for anyone willing to throw a hat into the ring:

Merry Crisis leaves off with Steve telling a pre Vecna Eddie a very sanitized, monster-less version of why flickering lights made him almost takes Eddie’s head off with a frying pan.

Would it be more fun to have the kids individually harass Steve and Eddie about their lackluster dating lives, inadvertently pushing the two together

Do I involve supernatural upside down shit?
