The Haunting of Wells House:

I love a fun episode to get my mind off the angst of Operation Birthday Take back!

The gag of this being a paranormal TV show were so great! So many minor things I loved like the "Paranormal Pursuit" show title they keep saying. Literally cracked me up the way they were saying it.

I also adore the interview gags, you cannot tell me this ain't so fitting for both of them!

"My local paper called my performance of Ebenezer Scrooge 'Not as bad as it could've been'" 😭

Her expression is golden.

Also the reference to that one painting from Cosmo and Wanda was a nice touch (I mean they already had The Scream up there before this)

(The original is called American Gothic, I had no idea! I knew the art piece generally but didn't know the name till I googled and it and suddenly boom that's the name. AND it's from the 1930s! Ain't that cool stuff!)

Jorgan reappearance! We haven't seen you in like. A bit. I'm pretty sure not since the fairy testing thing but I could be wrong. "Father Jorgan" I love how Wanda and Cosmo literally summon him for the sole purpose of "exorcising" a ghost fairy. Funniest shit on Earth fr. Bro was NOT built for the "Father" role. HE LITERALLY GETS "DA RULES" OUT INSTEAD OF A BIBLE IM CRYINNGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Also why does bro just have like so many cassette tapes? Are they all cursed? Are more fairies trapped in tapes or something? And it's a LARGE collection. WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT MANY TAPES JORGAN WH-

Overall, this episode was fun as hell and I ADORED Hazel and her dad's dynamic together. Tbh it's so cute! Hazel is so enthusiastic about hunting for the apartment ghost with her dad it's so wholesome 🥺 I honestly love the father/daughter duo sm an episodic adventure episode is so nice. Also the TV segment thing was awesome af, enjoyed that a lot. I feel like it's probably in reference to Buzzfeed Unsolved or something.

Best of Luck:

Ohhhhh boy, Dev is back again! And it is NOT looking good! I found this episode to be kinda heartbreaking for many reasons. This entire episode essentially revolves around Dev wanting to make "rule breaking" wishes (eg. win the tournament and that t-shirt) but Peri (being normal about Da Rules) tells him he can't (because he can't) and Dev and Peri have a little fight in which Peri seems to quit. I find that looking back, he might've been crying?

Bro's got tears rolling down his face and everything!

And then he gets replaced with Minecraft Steve Foop Irep, who retains the cube shape he was born in (is this a glimpse into a potential timeline where Peri would've been a sphere?), and really hates his name change unlike his normal fairy counterpart.

HE SAYS HE'S MORE ATTRACTIVE 😭 If only he knew that Peri was a Tumblr sexy man and he.... isn't.

Anyway, Dev literally uses the anti-fairy powers of not giving a fuck about the rules to essentially wish his way into winning the stupid prize, while giving Hazel bad luck (which she manages to get past using good luck charms) and making her lose the tournament.

Important thing, let's talk about that scene after Dev wins. He's expecting Hazel to be upset about losing, like... really upset. When she's not that upset and takes losing normally, he lashes out at her.

He WANTS her to react like how he's been reacting to the thought of losing the competition. I think this is still a reaction to his dad being neglectful at the party (and he very likely hasn't stopped being absentee since then). He's projecting his own emotions, and rejecting Hazel's attempts to be nice.

"I don't need your caring and understanding, Hinkle!" (This is also a sign of Dev's detachment from Hazel, since he reverts back to the "everything but calling her Hazel" bit)

He's more happier with physical things rather than emotional. He seems to avoid the emotional wishes, likely a coping mechanism for the neglect, opting to use the rule free wishes of Irep to wish for money, love from some classmate (who he's never been shown to love back in any way before this), to be the King of America (bro really invented monarchy for a monarchy-less country. Crazy.).

And then he literally wishes for Cosmo and Wanda to be nothing! To kill them essentially! I think that's driven by Dev's idea that having two fairies is better than one (a concept I remember being battled on with Remy Buxaplenty and his one fairy), even if it isn't and they're all still bound to the same rules, and by some motivation to get back at Hazel, likely another projection of his feelings.

Just before the mini battle ends, Dev exclaims that he's "finally going to get everything [he's] ever wanted" and that they're ruining it for him. I think, deep down, Dev really wants his dad's affection. I've mentioned this before in the review I did for the Take back episode, but he seemed so devastated about the lack of attention from his father then and even way back from scavenger hunt episode when Dev and Hazel first bonded with each other. Personally, I think Dev was likely going to use Irep (and his ability to basically with whatever, in Dev's eyes) to wish his father could be different. I think that was the real goal, and all the physical stuff was for show and very surface level wishing.

Dev's rejection of Hazel eventually gets to Hazel herself, where she chucks the shirt at him and says "Fine! Take the dumb shirt! I hope it was worth it." Hazel is probably very much done with Dev for the time being, because she tried to reach out to him but she could see he doesn't want any of it.

Let's spawn in the question of Peri. Peri technically should act as a father figure or some kind of parental figure in this case, but he's defo been screwed over by the council for giving him this boy with issues and seems to resent him for constantly not listening when Peri says that some things are against the rules, which is why he temporarily takes a break. I know someone on a discord server pointed out that Peri isn't really bonded with Dev yet, and that really rings true.

You can see this when Peri pretty much ignores his godkid in favour of his parents (which I guess contextually could be described as just being wrapped up in convo, but knowing his track record it's likely the former). THE KID WAS SITTING RIGHT THERE! SAD! Peri, to me at least, doesn't seem like he's emotionally equipped for the job of truly being there for Dev. Cosmo and Wanda seemed way better at this in OG FOP, where they constantly looked out for Timmy, even if he was a bit of a brat at times. But Peri really does care, even a little, as evidenced by the fact that he was jealously watching over Dev while he was gone. He wanted him to call Peri back. I wonder if Peri will figure out how to adjust to being a more parental figures than he hoped, because for now it seems he's thinking about this more as a job than an actual child he has to take care of. I hope he'll improve that aspect of himself, especially concerning the finale.

NOW ON TO THINGS I NOTICED!

AYOOOOOO FLIPPED GENDER ROLES OF THE KNITTING AND READING NEWSPAPER LETS GOOOOOOOOO

It's also kinda weird to me that they sorta fly up and come out of the box at Hazel's school after this. It gave me the vibes of "we're living inside the box" but they aren't? Wasn't that their home? Anyways.

I said it once and will say it again: Irep is built like Minecraft Steve. You can't change my mind.

Mr Guzman is so happy at the new nickname lol. He's got that 😎 expression.

JORGAN YOU ARE BACK AGAIN. DOUBLE WHAMMY RETURN. TWO EPISODES IN ROW, KEEP UP THAT STREAK DAWG!

I guess there's a fairy HR too? And I thought the DMV was bad enough. Placing my bets on a fairy godparent union now.

Overall this episode had a lot for me to ponder on and now I wonder what Dev's gonna do with the information about anti-fairies he's gonna collect (how the fuck are the o-pears gonna know shit about this anyway). One of the episodes is Irep and Dev taking over fairy world, so I guess minecraft Steve is gonna make a reappearance, plus Dev will likely try to take over Fairy World with the same vulnerable-ish state he's in. I LOVE the plot thickening! FUCK YEAH BITCHES WE GETTING LORE

I feel like tumblr keeps eating my asks and it’s driving me nuts, lol

Anyway, I wanted to just kind of dump all my fop thoughts here because this is a show I didn’t realize I wanted. I was SUPER skeptical at first when I saw they made a reboot, but it’s honestly great. Also, I’m an absolute sucker for wholesome friendships, and I wasn’t prepared to care about Dev, lol.

Hazel definitely drags all her friends into tickle fights, especially Dev. She’s probably the queen of cheer up tickles! If things had gone down differently during the birthday episode, I could totally see her tickling Dev to remind him that they’re still friends. (She definitely tricks him by saying she has another birthday surprise for him, making him close his eyes and even lift his arms up)

Also Cosmo and Wanda are couple goals now! They totally have the cutesy romantic tickle fights, but aren’t above tickling Peri and Hazel on occasion.

I really hope this show gets another season!

Oh my gosh I totally feel you! I was a little skeptical too hearing it had been rebooted but the second I saw Hazel I knew I’d love the show! I was not expecting to care so so much about Dev either he’s such a little shit though and I love it 😭

AHHH I LOVE THESE SM!!! I fully agree that Hazel is the resident (self proclaimed) tickle monster of her friend group! I can see her making up games just to get to tickle them! Like “okay let’s see which one of you can hold your arms the longest!!” “let’s play hide and seek!! But I’m the seeker and whoever I catch, I tickle >:))” stuff like that! She’s super playful with it and her friends come to expect her shenanigans after a while!

And yesss I can totes see her doing that :,)) cheer up tickles for Dev is just such a sweet concept I love them sm! My buddies ever.. I can see him thanking her in a fit of linger giggles afterwards,,,

hii im back!! and i’ve finally read through all the fae au lore for everyone that’s been released so far! ok first off, it’s absolutely crazy how cool the chaotix turned out to be,,, i really like vector’s design in particular! but both charmy and espio look amazing too,, i like how the wisteria flower works as pio’s head + the little hat on charmy is super cute <3 the rabbits being higher members in the court is also a very cool detail, they’re the firsts to be introduced as part of the court so far too i think?? i love their wings :D, vanilla’s are sooo long and wide. it’s awesome.

we sure have a lot of spring fairies… aside from rouge who’s revealed to be a winter fae, do you have plans for any other characters currently? i was pondering about who sonic was referring to in his own intro post: “their current goal is to wake up early enough to spend a few days in the Winter - to challenge their fastest fae to a race to prove they're the fastest out of anyone” and honestly i think beside shadow (but since shadow’s a season) the only one who would fit this description is jet,,, babylon rogues as winter fae :0?? speaking of trio, it’s kinda sad that omega won’t be around in this au for team dark shenanigans, im wrecking my brain for a possible encounter but i really dunno how that would work out when faes and eggman never mesh together rip. [1/2]

Thank you sm! They're not all spring fairies, they just all wake around the same time! Knuckles and Tails are in the Autumn Court, Amy's Summer and Sonic's Spring, it just doesn't matter too much as they all hang out anyways and none of them are high members. Spring, Summer and Fall fairies all wake Spring, and die in Autumn, but they all belong to different courts. Winter fae don't die, some hibernate some don't but they're all pretty elusive - Sonic doesn't know who's the fastest of them but to find out he has to wake up early and ask them himself - this is how he accidentally runs into Shadow.

Currently I've vague plans for the SatAM crew and Rouge (maybe Cosmo? but she's sorta already a plant so it feels like cheating), but I'm brainstorming for any others, the Rogues are definitely a consideration!

South Downs, revisited

The garden faces south.

Wisteria and lavender. Borders of delphinium. Brilliant violet asters, peonies and shock-white hydrangeas. Hostas that could use splitting come spring. Hollyhocks thriving, standing ten feet easy. Lady’s Mantle, climbing roses, snap dragons. Yarrow, a lot of yarrow.

Grow you a garden. Start from seed, from the beginning, the inception. Dirt under fingernails, cracked terracotta pots, noon sun high. Watch stalks rise and flowers bloom, creation, something new and whole and yours.

There’s lattice-work arches too. A little neglected, water-warped wood imprinted with decades of climbing tendrils tattooing the grain. The clematis has fallen back, overstretched and thinning at the apex, but still the stains of its vines remain on the wood, revealing past summers. The patio stones that dot the perimeter are smoothed almost slippery from years of use and rain. Initials are carved in the trunk of the overgrown birch that shadows the back gate. SM + RB dug deep in testament, a fine layer of moss creeping at the edges.

Loved, this garden was loved by its former caretakers. Could be loved again, certainly.

There’s room enough to spread out. Add some colour — daylilies, cosmos, bellflowers. Coax some ivy up the brick. Mint as ground cover, along with flowering thyme, lily of the valley, phlox.

He could build an awning off the back wall, offer some more cover. Move the hostas – they’d be happier under the protection. Plant some astilbes, coral bells, some begonias in the summer. Add a few lounges, a place for an angel to read while it storms.

Maybe an apple tree, if he’s feeling bold.

“Centuries since I’ve holidayed properly. The occasional day trip hardly counts.”

“Not permanently, maybe just to get some air. See the sky again.” Saucer meets desk. A smile his way, blue eyes alight,

“And I will make thee beds of Roses And a thousand fragrant posies, A cap of flowers, and a kirtle Embroidered all with leaves of Myrtle”

“For Satan’s sake, you’re invoking Marlowe of all people?”

“And why shouldn’t I? Just because he’s been a smidge overshadowed by —”

“You know he was an atheist, angel?”

“Even a broken clock is right twice a day.”

“And that broken clock can write poetry too?”

“Quite.”

The bell above the shop door rings, and Aziraphale is off.

The third bedroom is just a nook really; it peaks out of a dormer window overlooking the back garden. It has built-in shelves along one wall, inset and bordered with the sort of colonial crown moulding that Crowley imagines only Aziraphale would truly appreciate. Grandmotherly; shelves seemingly meant to house sun-faded doilies and ceramic cats.

But it could be a library. Granted, a small one, but there was space enough for a collection of the essentials with room to spare under the window for a desk. An angel must keep up with his correspondence, after all.

Dear angel, he’d written once, centuries ago. Then scribbled it out.

Dear angel, he’d written again, not long after. Then burned it.

Dear angel, he’d written again and again and again. Wasted paper made pulp made paper again, never sent.

He buys the damned cottage.

Dumb idea. Impulsive, really. Like a lot of what he did, what he still does — gets a notion in his demonic skull and just charges on, unencumbered by reflection. As if he trusts some higher power is looking out for him, has his back – the absurdity of it. Once upon a time before the beginning of the world, he’d sauntered vaguely downward without really considering all the consequences, the ramifications of it all; hadn’t weighed and measured, worked out the celestial maths. No, he made a choice and paid for it without knowing the price.

(he would have kept sauntering on anyway, knowing where it would ultimately lead — earth and humans and their wonderful cars and Aziraphale and and and — but he hadn’t known then, couldn’t have known, just what shape his damnation would take, and that was rather the point; he was a careless idiot)

Here too, on earth. We can run away together — Alpha Centauri. Get an idea, a cocked up, stupid thought and go all in on it.

The Bentley, raging down London streets. A sharp, nearly blind corner. Is there oncoming traffic? Could he stop if he wanted to? Who’s even in control, has he ever been? Has he gone from one master to another to another?

You go too fast for me, Crowley.

So he buys the damned cottage, because what else can he do?

Aziraphale gets in the elevator and Crowley gets in the Bentley. He doesn’t know where he’s going, but it’s not South Downs.

January 26 2023 (Thursday)

I went to UP today for Dimensions’ ticket selling. I brought my baked goods with me, thankfully I sold most of it. I’m starting to feel like an actual college student again. The past two years of the pandemic has taken so much from my experiences — sometimes I even feel like I’m still a freshie at UP, still trying to figure out how everything works, not knowing which buildings each college is located, confused about the UP Ikot’s route even though I’ve seen the pubmats about it a couple of times already. It feels like a new beginning even though my life as an Iskolar ng Bayan started way back 2020. THREE DAMN YEARS.

Can I just say that I love riding the jeepneys from SM North to UP? I really can’t explain how it feels, but it does feel good (at least to me it does). I love remembering the streets in UP that lead to somewhere I know. I love knowing where to eat, what the color of the jeepney’s roofs are depending on where they’re going, I love being in UP. It really does feel like home.

Anyway, enough with the sappy, sentimental shit. Surprise! We didn’t get any Dimensions tickets! The line was so long I wasn’t even gonna hope that we’d get some. I mean it’s alright though, I’ve already secured tickets for Cosmos. Today was spent with some of my acquaintances from UP. I wouldn’t actually call all of them my friends because I don’t even know if they would consider me as their friend (except for Alyanna & Nic!). So yes, I spent the day with Darla, Sophie, Jade, Alyanna, and Nic today. I’ll just post some photos so I could remember this day when I come back to my entries. Oh and yeah, my book and annotating supplies arrived today! I’m so excited to read this one!

oikawa tooru, one of the smartest men in his sport and campus, can’t seem to find the right words whenever he speaks to you.

maybe it’s the way you’re always around him, or maybe it’s the way that when you’re not, he’s always the one to be looking for you.

either way, it’s complicated — he’s had his attention on you for almost a year now, and no matter how flashy he gets or how cool his sets are, you never seem interested enough to be the one to talk to him first.

which is why he’s making the first move.

“nice shoes.” oikawa tells you, breaking the sound silence in the air, and you look up at him, and he notices how you’re surprised that he spoke to you.

it’s the afternoon, class just ended, and you’re stranded under a bus stop waiting for the restless rain to clear up.

you know who oikawa is, you sit a few seats next to him, and he’s always been one of the few that’s prompted to lend you notes for whenever you needed it. he’s a good guy, and an even better note taker.

you know him — you like him.

you glance up at him, noticing that it’s only the two of you here right now, and you smile.

“thank you, they’re new.” you say, shuffling on your feet a bit.

oikawa flutters, giving you half a smile back, and he tells you, “i noticed.”

you raise a brow, amused, “you noticed?”

poor choice of words. oikawa scratches his cheek, nervous with a faint redness peeking through his face, and he laughs (nervously), words dancing, “they’re nice shoes.”

your smile is still cheeky, but you nod anyways with a sound ‘ah’ before you let the silence fall through again.

it’s weird talking to him, especially when you’ve only talked on rare occasions before, but you know that he’s fumbling, and you know that he’s trying to keep the conversation going, he’s just unsure of what to say next.

so you chime, “so uhm, aren’t you walking home with iwaizumi?”

oikawa looks at you — surprised that you know this — but there’s an ear to ear smile chewing at his face and a redness flooding his cheeks thats hard to ignore.

“he stayed back,” he tells you, “i think he’s waiting for the rain to clear up - which is stupid by the way since he could be here for hours.”

you nod, “yeah, i don’t think it’s letting up any time soon.”

he looks to the sky, sighing hard, and he tells you, thinking out loud, “bad day to forget an umbrella.”

and a second passes, and another, and another, and he wishes he didn’t have to say something so hard to reply to because now you’re probably unsure of what to say.

great going oikawa, now the conversation is gonna stop, and they’re not gonna talk to you again til the next time you need to ask for notes, great g—

you chide, “you wanna share mine?”

and oikawa blinks, “huh?”

that was not what he expected you to say.

“we walk the same path, so i don’t think it’ll be any problem if we share my umbrella.” you titter, reaching into your bag to show him the white umbrella you’re opting to share.

and he fumbles again, “i — uhm — wait — how do you know that?”

there’s a flush that reaches your nose, taking a step back, and this time it’s you who becomes obviously nervous.

so you smile - rather nervously - staring at your shoes, referencing to what he said before, and you say, voice small, “i noticed.”

oikawa may be a fumbling mess around you, but it’s good to know that he can have the same effect on you too.

“oh — that’s well — that’s — really — uhm.” he stammers, looking for words even though he really doesn’t know what to say, but there’s an unnerving grin threatening to break out on his face that he really can’t try to contain.

the rain is loud — deafening, but it’s your quiet chopped up nervous laughter he pays attention to.

you’re as nervous as he is, huh?

you breathe out a sigh, saving up the courage to look at him finally, and you hand out the umbrella from your bag pocket.

“wanna share?” you say, smiling.

and his face is red, a stone in his throat and his hands unbelievably clammy.

the chance to walk you home — to walk with you, in general — and to finally spend some time with you without running off with a cheap excuse.

oikawa flashes you a grin, “definitely.”

you make him flushed, you make him red, you make him nervous — you make him feel like a fool and trust him when he says he’s not because he’s definitely one of the smartest guys out there — but damn, he has always been a fool for you.

he walks by your side, grinning, “you should carry your bag on your other hand.”

and you brush him off, “i’m not holding your hand, oikawa.”

so he fakes a pout, and his voice dramatically higher, but he inches closer to you, under your white umbrella, and he whines, “i have really nice hands, you know!”

oikawa tooru is not a fool (but he’s a fool for you.)
