Okay, quick question:

Why does Legend have violet/purple eyes in your Stories? Like idk it’s my hc now too because I’ve read it so often but where does it come from?

Oh boy, I know I've answered this one a few times, but I don't blame anyone for asking again LOL

It was sort of impulse? Mostly? I remember when I was writing my first fic, I actually sat down and tried to decide what color eyes everyone would have, because eyes are incredibly important to me in my art, be it writing or sketches, and a character always feels incomplete until I can visualize them somehow while working with them.

Anyways, I don't know precisely why I chose violet for Legend, maybe because I have this character (Thane) who I wrote with violet eyes and I thought it would be a fun trait to give to someone, and so I gave it to a random Link who wasn't my current favorite (at that time, I was a huge Wild stan). It became really key to me though because, thematically, it suits him; it plays with various sorts of imagery and symbolism that make my fangirl heart scream in joy!

His eyes are the color of Fi's hilt, while Sky's are the color of her blade. His eyes are the color of a night sky, the place where stars stay, a place of peace in darkness. In my mind, I can see Hyrule as a kingdom regarding their royal family like the sun; a brightness and light that brings life. But Legend, the hero, is the light in the darkness, a star himself, who reminds them that there's hope even when the sun can't be seen. And, well, the sun is just the star closest to us, so he's a sun himself, in a way, just a distant one :)

Additionally, this works as a nice contrast to Ravio! Where Ravio has green eyes, black hair, and wears purple, Legend in my HC would have purple eyes, golden hair, and wear green, so they appear more as a reversed version of each other, just as Fable's blue eyes are a reverse to Hilda's red. (Which also means that, between the four of them, they have red, blue, green and violet! Kind of like Four!)

I also just like how it breaks up the sea of blue eyed boys. like, Hyrule is hazel to me, and Four has grey that change depending on his mood/mentality, and Wind is a ocean blue so they're almost green at times, but Legend's the only one with purple. Which means that he himself also has a blue, green, red, and purple color scheme, between his clothes and his eyes, which, in my early fics, made for another fun similarity to Four (I like tying them together, thematically)

Last of all? It's just pretty. Like, our boy changes his hair all the time, like a girl changes clothes (if you will), but purple eyes? Those go with anything! The black he had during OoX, the red, green, blue (whichever you like, or all if you prefer) of TFH, the typical blonde, or even his traditional pink! they soften his appearance some as well and give him a unique look and feature amid a sea of look-alike-links!

So yeah, there's a lot of "reasons" which mostly boil down to the fact that I thought it'd be fun and then I made it important because It Just Worked

And it's stuck with me! and some other writers have even started doing it too! Granted, I see a lot of brown eyed Legend, green eyed, and of course, the traditional blue, but it makes me smile when I see Violet in anyone's work, because while I'm not saying I've definitely impacted the perception of him by the fandom, I am saying it's nice to think of it like I have, and imagine that in some way, I got to be part of crafting a really cool character, even if it's just through a color contribution :)

while it's still pride month, here are my thoughts on a potential queer interpretation of kpop demon hunters in no particular order

before anyone starts getting mad, i just want to remind you that this is all in good fun and if you disagree, that's totally fine. however, as a queer person, i see a lot of parallels in this movie that resonate with my own experiences and those that i've seen from others in the queer community.

first of all, kpdh and rumi's character arc in particular focus a lot on resisting expectations in order to be authentically yourself. while this is not an exclusively queer experience, and is in fact one that real life idols must contend with, i think any queer person can relate to hiding your true self in order to conform to the "image" other people hold you to.

the song "Golden" really feels like a queer anthem in this sense; while i definitely relate to the bicultural experience zoey alludes to in her lines, "i lived two lives / tried to play both sides / but i couldn't find my own place", i think it also is a feeling many closeted people know well, especially bi, aro/ace, and nonbinary people. mira's follow-up line, "called a problem child / 'cause i got too wild" can be interpreted as a reference to the scorn and ostracization many queer people face when they are too "loud" about their own identity. and rumi's quiet, "waited so long to break these walls down / to wake up, and feel like me" ? ohhh man...especially considering she was looking at herself in the mirror. trans vibe, anyone?

the pre-chorus through post-chorus of "Golden" feel so freeing after all that, as the unapologetic authenticity shines through. i think "What It Sounds Like" also reflects this theme, so i'm not going to dissect it because it'd be more of the same, but my thoughts on it essentially boil down to that song feeling like a coming out.

on the flip side, we have the shame that seems to power the demons (or at least gwi-ma) in this world. it's quite easy to say that the demons represent internal demons as well as physical ones (see the lyrics of "Free" and "What It Sounds Like"), but in the context of a queer interpretation this tie to shame specifically—rather than rage, jealousy, etc.—struck me as rather fitting. many queer people experience shame, self-loathing, and so on for being queer in a world that refuses to accept us. in the movie, the huntrix girls initially follow the age-old formula of "our faults and fears must never be seen," which also contributed to the shame that split them apart and let gwi-ma take advantage of mira and zoey. rumi herself is told over and over by celine—her own pseudo-mother—that she must shed her own identity in order to be accepted, and nearly convinces jinu of the same. internalized homophobia, who?

but again, the movie insists that shame must be overcome (i.e., the old honmoon being destroyed and replaced with a new one when "What It Sounds Like" plays, rumi showing her patterns proudly at the end of the movie, etc.) so that one can really shine. yup, the coming out vibes are strong in these scenes.

as a random side note, i thought that moment when the saja boys transform back into their demon forms after returning to the demon realm and a demon happily tells their friend, "they're just like us," was an interesting nod to the desire for representation.

now: moving on to the fact that this movie is built around kpop. while i would consider myself at most a casual kpop enjoyer, i think the reaches of kpop's "queerification" extends even beyond kpop fandom. if you're reading this post, chances are you've at least heard of the kpop fandoms on ao3, youtube, twitter, tiktok, etc. and the ships that dominate them, but even if you haven't, queer fanservice has become ever more present in the kpop sphere. plus, many fans of kpop are queer, and find community with those like them who also have the same interests. coincidence or not, the fact that kpdh is about kpop idols definitely leaves space for queerness to permeate its themes of expressing oneself freely and connecting to others with your genuine, raw self rather than a carefully constructed version of yourself.

and finally, the most important piece of evidence for this whole interpretation:

rumi's bisexual eyeliner. what an icon.

Silver's basically a physical carbon copy of his biodad, so what did he get from her? like, I understand why the two of them kind of have to stay as these super vague and mysterious figures -- the whole point of them is that their story ended 400+ years ago and they're not really relevant anymore (and. well. the more that gets explained about them, the less that can just kinda be handwaved as "oh the politics were Very Messy") (we can sit here and theorize all day but let us acknowledge that, ultimately, canon gave us almost nothing about them post-Meleanor and we'd just be making things up). I do still wonder about her though! RIP Lea, we never knew you and we probably never will.

Nikolai and Price going to an evening game of poker with some of Nik's "friends", John sitting with his guard up as he's surrounded by a group of dangerous international criminals, all of them carrying guns, all of them glancing at him with a curious look. Price is uncomfortable but doesn't show it, while Nikolai is awfully relaxed considering the situation.

The evening goes on, drinks, cigars and hearty laughs are shared around the table, the bets reaching numbers Price doesn't even make in half a year. It would be a problem, if he wasn't winning most of the rounds, piles of cash gathering around him as he feels the tension build in the room. One of the younger guys, another russian speaker, starts getting an attitude about it around two hours in, and Nikolai immediately puts him in his place with a single sentence Price doesn't understand, his voice booming, as intimidating as he could be, a heavy silence falling inside the room as the lad with an attitude sits back down, eyes not even daring to look at Nik. The silence is only broken by Nik again, a warm laugh leaving his lips and the other men joining him, their nervousness barely hidden.

It had been so easy for Nik to command the room, and even after the tension had diminished, Price could see how much respect these men had for him, while also clearly being scared shitless of the man. Price had rarely felt more attracted to him as he did at that moment, and the wink and smirk Nikolai gave him when he noticed him looking in his direction absolutely did not help.

John eventually left the table, excusing himself for a moment but squeezing Nik's hand briefly as he got up, moving deeper in the building they were using for their game.

A minute later and it's Nik's turn to excuse himself, quickly finding Price who immediately grabs him by the collar of his open shirt and presses his lips against his, Nik hungrily returning the kiss and pushing John against a nearby wall.

When they return to the table, hair tousled, face flustered, all it takes is one glance from Nikolai to shut the others up. This is his territory, this is where he's comfortable, surrounded by dangerous men who show him respect and never dare to cross him.

It's easy for John to forget how natural this all is for his partner, and if Nikolai brought him here tonight to assert his dominance and show off a little, just so he could impress John, well, that mission sure was a success.

I think she should be allowed to have as much sex as she wants with zero consequences. Could be a lot of sex, could be a little. au where bruce is attracted to his robins and batgirls. he tries not to think about it or act on it, but it's getting more difficult with every new member of his team he acquires. does anyone know? do the robins and batgirls notice his weird behavior? what do they do about it? do they ever find out the truth? who would think it's terrible and who would find it strangely hot/comforting/nice? does bruce ever act on his feelings?

oh my GOD do i have thoughts for AUs like this, i love this shit so dearly, dirtybadwrong Bruce who's trying to keep a lid on it my beloved.

i think the fun of this AU is if characters would notice Bruce lusting for themselves vs would they notice Bruce lusting for a different Robin/Batgirl. like does Dick pick up on it when it's just him and Bruce? no, because it's just. him and Bruce. he and Bruce are weird and complicated and hold endless bounds of nuance. that's just How Bruce Is, and Dick is the "test run", in a sense. he knows Bruce is new to this whole sidekick/family thing and is giving Bruce grace for being rough around the edges. but when Bruce starts looking at Jason or Tim or Cass that way, that's when Dick starts to notice. it's never enough of a suspicion he feels justified to bring it up, but the thought lingers. he's hyperaware and grows less and less comfortable with leaving them alone with Bruce. it's a weird game of chicken, Dick and Bruce staring each other down when Bruce's touch lingers too long. each waiting for the other to say something first. if Bruce ever broke and actually acted on his feelings, Dick would be eaten alive by the guilt of knowing something was up, but never saying something until it was too late.

obviously, Cass would know. there's no world where Cass *doesn't* know, the nature of who and what she is would immediately clock it. but the issue is, Cass doesn't have a good framework of what family looks like. she doesn't really understand familial vs romantic love bc she has no firsthand experience of what a parent's love should even look like. so she never calls it out. she just watches. i'm a fan of Cass believing this is normal and believing she too can express and act on attraction that's vaguely incestuous. maybe it's with Babs, maybe it's with Dick or Tim or Bruce himself. but she recognizes this as Normal and Accepted within the Batfamily, so it severely fucks up her understanding of familial love and i just. man it's my favorite thing about Cass in Batcest honestly, is how you can play with her lack of experience with love, boundaries, and sexuality.

Tim is the fun one for me. because my favorite flavor of BruTim is when Tim knows, as he agrees to be Robin, that there's a non-zero chance that Bruce is going to be Weird and agrees anyway because he's decided it's an acceptable risk. so Tim knows from the get-go because he's expecting it. if Bruce acts on his attraction, i think it's either with Tim or Cass first, because they're the most likely to confront him about it in a way that isn't entirely negative. Tim has accepted it's a possibility and Cass just seeks being loved and touched so. it leads to the first time someone's ever confronted Bruce about it. and the thing is, Bruce really doesn't like confrontation about his flaws. the first time Tim tries to imply he's okay with it, Bruce would lash out at the idea, tell Tim how inappropriate that is and benches Tim for a week. it'd probably take a united front from Cass and Tim to get Bruce to even *admit* to the attraction. still Bruce wouldn't allow it to happen and he brushes them off until finally, the dam breaks. it's fun if there's a cause like sex pollen, but i think it's *more* fun if it's just. a random fucking Tuesday and finally Bruce is at his limit. he has no real reason, there's nothing particularly different about that day's routine. he just sees Tim or Cass striping armor and sighs and gives in.

i don't think Steph, Jason, or Babs would notice until anything substantial happened. not because they're not wicked smart, but just because none of them were looking for it. Jason put Bruce on a pedestal when he was alive, and when he came back from the dead he wasn't close enough to be noticing Bruce's interpersonal dynamics outside of his narrow scope. Steph has no real framework for what healthy fatherhood looks like, so if Bruce's touches linger, if he stares too long, she just shrugs and assumes it's how it is. and Babs was just never quite close enough to Bruce to notice. if and when she notices, is when actual sexual things start to happen between Cass and Bruce. because Cass would see no reason to hide it. Babs would be pissed, but it'd be tricky to navigate. Cass would be an adult, even if she's only 18/19, so technically, she's old enough to be consenting. if nothing else, Bruce is a careful man. even when he breaks and gives in to his desires, he covers his tracks well. he makes sure he has enthusiastic consent and there's no legal recourse that could be taken. age of consent and all that. there's not much Babs can *do* other than try to tell Cass (and/or Tim) that this isn't normal or okay. not that it gets her anywhere, but god would she try.

by the time Duke comes along (if we venture out of the pre-Flashpoint era) i think it's a sort of. open secret, in the Batfamily. talked about in nothing but hushed whispers and knowing glances. at some point, they've all had sex with Bruce, caving all for different reasons. some more than others. Tim sees it as a duty, Cass sees it as a way of seeking comfort, Steph sees it as getting Bruce's approval for once, etc. it's never forced on them, but eventually, they all come to Bruce sooner or later. and that's the fun irony of it, i think. they try to convince the others not to, but would go to Bruce on their own well. because complicated reasons they can't put into words. sometimes, Bruce is just a messy man who doesn't realize how prized his Attention to for the rest of the Batfamily. that weird duality of not liking him, but also wanting desperately for him to like you. all of them have dealt with it, at some point. so for Duke, it takes a while for him to understand this... whole dynamic. it's Cass who tries to explain it to him, and he's a little horrified, a lot confused. especially when Bruce starts staring at him a little too long as well. i think he'd only want to watch first but well. they all cave eventually.

also fun bonus if we venture into the Dark Knight Returns universe for my bestest girl Carrie Kelley: there's such a like, "i'm fucking around and i'm finding out" vibe to Carrie. like Tim, she's very proactive in just. deciding she's going to be Robin and she's ready for whatever that entails. (IMO canon Carrie is closer to fanon Tim than canon Tim is but *that* deserves its own post-) like she takes one look at the old man that is Batman and goes yup. he's never fucking getting rid of me now. if Bruce started having weird feelings about her, i think she'd have *fun* with it. she's decided she's in it for the long haul and for whatever being Robin means so. she's almost teasing about it, seeing how hard she can push before Bruce snaps. since it's an older, gruffer Bruce, i think he'd express open annoyance at it first, almost a sort of banter about how Carrie behave. but of course he caves and Carrie leans into it, because there's a fun in having all of Bruce's attention to herself. in the main timeline, Bruce is pretty split with so many Robins and Batgirls, but during their era, it's *just* her and him and she's very proud she's got him all to herself.
