I’m catching up on Bungou Stray Dogs and I got to chapter 39 and wow… what a bad chapter. Or I should say, I VERY purely written, mishandled chapter. So I wanted to talk about why I hate this so much (even though so many people have probably talked about this here and other platforms.) Get ready for a rare known Iruma breakdown. But also I’m so mad about this chapter so this is going to be more of an unhinged rant then a well written post. Warning: child violence, abuse, abusive cycles, and sympathizing an abuser

This chapter is somehow a thousand times worse than what the anime did? I wonder if the people in charge of the anime also didn’t like this part and decided to cut it short and get through it as soon as possible and move on. Though it could also just because of how fucked up it is. No matter the reason, I went into this chapter hoping that maybe there was some context lost from the anime to manga but nope! In fact the manga goes further with trying to make you sympathize with a literal child torturer? It honestly makes me appreciate the episode just a tiny bit more for not including his oh so tragic backstory 🙄. Look, no matter what you have gone through, you don’t get the right to abuse a child. Plain and simple. Just because you were abused doesn’t give you the right to do it to someone. I get that the abuse cycle is not easy to break but once you fall down the same path you are ALSO a fucked up person! And you deserve to suffer for your actions. I wished he got a worse death than a car accident tbh 🤷.

Anyway, I hate how every character in this chapter acted like Atsushi was being irrational about not wanting to know why the headmaster was around? That’s his torturer, the man that literally made his life hell? If he doesn’t want to know, don’t force him. Like, could it give him closure, I guess. But he should be the one seeking that out. Quite frankly, once it was found out the headmaster was involved Atsushi should have been pulled from the case. Give him some distance to process everything rather having to learn about his abuser’s life story or whatever. Like I said, if he wanted to learn that info he should but only if he wanted. Idk why it treated him not wanting to know as acting irrational. I feel like every character treated him like this, from Tanizaki to Akutagawa to Dazai. Instead of comforting him in this difficult time they just… didn’t do anything? Obviously Akutagawa wouldn’t but why didn’t the other two do anything to make him feel better? Only Dazai did really and it was shitty. Full stop bad.

Which leads me into the crutch of it, I hate how they made the headmaster out to be a father figure or mentor. He’s not?? What the fuck are you on about. Like, I could see it if there was fake comfort, subtle or advert manipulation by being nice sometimes. Then it would have been a situation of, he’s the only father figure I ever had but he hurt me in the worst ways. And that’s where the ending could be. Not to say it would still be a well written depiction of abuse, it still tries to get you to empathize with the man, however, I could get where all the complication in Atsushi would lie. But this man was literally the worst human being to walk the face of the Earth the entire time we see him in the manga. So it makes ZERO SENSE. I guess that’s the angle they were going for, he’s the only adult man I know but it does NOT work at all. How is he a “mentor.” Just because he said to hate me not yourself? Fuck that shit, Atsushi does not need to feel bad for that man just because he was trying to make him strong or whatever bs excuse he has. Oh wow, he got him flowers. How ‘bout you pay for his therapy bills?!

If they really wanted to have some nuance, instead I feel like the conflict should have centered around Atsushi still not feeling safe or like he isn’t really dead. Like he can’t allow himself to relax despite the fact that he knows the facts. Especially since the headmaster was a big threat throughout his life, having him suddenly die would be a large shock to the system and go into denial mode. Thus, Dazai or someone else could help him move on and he could finally breath a sigh of relief. Or maybe he’s scared that other workers of the orphanage will try to find him. Maybe he tries to go back to normal, doesn’t give himself time to process, and it all comes crashing down and he has to grapple with the fact that he will never know WHY the headmaster treated him like this. Honestly, not having it answered would have been better because often people don’t get an answer why abusers act the way they do. This idea could add another reason why Atsushi is conflicted between happy and deeply upset because the headmaster is gone but now he’ll never understand why he was treated so horribly. And grappling with the idea that maybe he will never know or understand. Which is tragic but would be a better written and understandable conclusion.

BSD just really dropped the ball with that chapter. It had a great opportunity to bring a nuanced perspective onto why Atsushi may not be elated with his death and get further perspective on him as a character. But instead it focused too much effort on making a child abuser sympathetic because he also faced abuse in an orphanage and some people died and so he tried to make Atsushi strong or whatever. Atsushi deserved a better end in than chapter that Dazai calling that gross piece of shit his father.

Edit: I wanted to add that as much as I hate this chapter I liked the parts where we got to see how bad Atsushi’s life really was at the orphanage. I mean, it hurt for sure but getting to see this put into perspective fully why Atsushi has a hard time pushing through his trauma and past. Like, PTSD is no joke and that was reason enough, but seeing how far it got really showed that. Which makes me mad when people imply he should have gotten over it already or similar statements. Like, dude if that was me I wouldn’t have made it to 18. It’s actually impressive his resolve to live despite everything. Kind of wished we saw that in the anime as dark as it was but once again, I think it was not included specifically because of how poorly it handled this topic. Not gonna lie, it would piss me off enough to not finish the show (not that it’s too much of an improvement but it at least is like, bad writing but a pass).

Episode 11 of Bungou Stray Dogs was…really bad.

Oh my god is was worse than I could’ve possibly imagined. WOW! Amazing! The villain who’s had a consistent presence in the narrative (background or otherwise) from the beginning is killed off like some single-arc baddie in an anti climax! Thanks, I hate it!

Listen, it’s not just that Fyodor died, it’s the way that he died. Gets the rug pulled out from under him by Dazai and ends up being impaled by some random vampire and dying unceremoniously in a flaming helicopter. It’s not even in a “the powerful seemingly invincible villain was killed by an unknown man, demonstrating his human fallibility” sort of way, it was just another facet of Dazai’s grand scheme.

There’s hardly any gravitas or drama to speak of in his death. Does his ability play a role in his downfall? Why is the death of Dazai’s only intellectual equal treated so casually? Where is the poetic justice? The thematic cohesion? WHY MAKE A SHOW OF HIM REVEALING HIS ABILITY WHEN HE WAS JUST GOING TO DIE ANYWAYS??!

That was what Nikolai told Sigma right? That he had rescued Sigma to use him to find out what Fyodor’s ability was? So Fyodor reveals the truth to Sigma and it culminates in…Sigma laying dead on the floor while Fyodor gets charbroiled by an exploding helicopter. We get no elaboration on his ambitions, the book, or even his ability and even if Sigma lives to tell the tale, who cares? He’s dead anyways.

And worst of all…we’re subjected to yet another one of Dazai’s convoluted explanations about how he actually was in control the entire time…yay! What a complete letdown. Looks like there was nothing to worry about! As usual, there were no stakes whatsoever and Dazai doesn’t have to confront or overcome any sort of challenge that culminates in a character arc. No, we can just watch him explain everything no matter how outlandish and “I just pulled this out of my ass” it is. It’s not exciting, it’s just DULL. How many times are we going to go through these trite story beats before everyone finally realizes how stupid they are?

Silly me, I thought Dazai might actually be emotionally honest about his partnership with a Chuuya for once during a moment of peril. But no! Actually they were just acting, GOTCHA! You thought the anime was going to show some character development? SIKE!

meeting the greatest detective

your bakery, Sakura’s, which you named after your late grandmother (who was also your guardian), went into business when you were 18 right after graduating high school

who needed a culinary course when you were trained by dear ol grandma?

your grandmother died when you were 16, just as you started your second year of high school

you were devastated of course, but you knew she wouldn’t want you to wallow over it too long

so in those last two hard years of high school, you took part time jobs at other bakeries and saved lots and lots of money

by graduation, using your life savings, the money your grandmother had left for you, and all the money you earned working, you were able to buy the small building—with a reasonable amount of money left over to survive— you and your grandmother had been eyeing back in her hometown, yokohama, to start your bakery

the building was a bit run down, but you were planning to give it a makeover anyways

it was a bit smaller compared to other buildings around, only having two stories, but on the plus side, the second floor had taller ceilings and was an apartment

is that realistic? probably not but bare with me here

you finished putting your bakery up in about 4 months, then finished up your apartment 2 more after

you opened Sakura’s at 7 in the morning then closed at 8 in the evening

when you first started, you did quite well!!

especially with those who went to work on early mornings and families

the time when you first opened was the most peaceful, but you admitted that it was a bit boring, and you wished for a bit more excitement

and boy, the day edogawa ranpo stepped into your bakery was the catalyst for the chaos and excitement that was soon to come

not that you knew that

if you did you would’ve never let him in

maybe

you were 19 when ranpo discovered Sakura’s, and it was completely accidental

he finished solving a case and was on the way back to the agency, and he—not surprisingly—got lost and then it started to rain really hard

it was pouring; there was even the cliche thunder strike and everything

you saw the brown clad man across the street and you ran out with two umbrellas (almost getting hit by a car mind you) handed one to him and practically dragged him inside

with the heavy rain on the forecast, Sakura’s was empty, so you gently pushed him down on a chair and you rushed away to find towels

even though the two of you had umbrellas, the two of you were still soaked 

finding said towels, you quickly dried yourself the best you could then you draped your towel over your back and rushed over to give him his as well as a warm pastry and your special hot honey lemon tea

ranpo laughed as you placed down the refreshment and snack, thinking that you knew who he was and was giving him special treatment

poor bby blinked and went :0 when you said you didn’t

“you don’t know who i am?”

“no. am i supposed to?”

“...”

the 25 year old blanked and you worried that you broke him and started to apologize profusely 

he cut you off claiming that he got over it he didnt but seeing as the bakery was empty and it was pouring pretty badly, he demanded you give him all your attention sit with him so he could tell you all about himself and what he’s done

the two of you got along quite well

you were amazed with all the stories he’s told you 

you honestly acted like a cute little kid listening to fairytales

he told you that and in response you threw a napkin at him

“wow ranpo-san! that’s amazing!!”

“you look like a little kid”

cue the napkin

he was happy with all the attention, praise, and sweets you gave him

the agency gave him praise sure, and made sure he had a lot of snacks but it was refreshing to have someone give him this much and your treats were the best he’s ever had

after he told you all his most interesting cases, the two of you just rambled about the most randomest things; going from the best desserts and snacks to the stupidest things his coworkers have done

you guys were on that last topic for a while

you two talked and rambled for hours, and when it hit hour two and the rain was still pouring, you just went ahead and slipped the “we’re open” sign to “closed” even though it was only 2 o’clock

you thought that this was probably the loving goofy older brother relationship that you missed out on

“ranpo-san, you’re kind of like the brother i’ve never had”

“and you’re still like that little kid”

cue another napkin to the face

don’t worry, he already adores you <3 

he just likes to make fun of you </3

*cuts you off as you’re talking to squish your cheeks* “(y/n) you still have a lot of baby fat and you’re pretty short...are you sure you’re still not in high school or smth??”

*incoherent talking due to pressure on cheeks* “ranpo-san you have 3 seconds before i kick you out”

at around 6, the rain came to a stop and by then, the both of you were all dried up

before he left, you gave him a map so that he hopefully wouldn’t get lost again and gave him a couple boxes of treats for him to have and to share with his coworkers

you closed early so you had to give away at least some of the remaining treats somehow

he wanted you to go to agency with him so he didn’t have to carry everything but you declined saying that you didn’t want to bc you wanted to rest

and for payback for calling you a little kid

you were 19 goddamnit

you already placed everything neatly into two bags so it was easy to carry but this bitch still had the audacity to pout and whine at you

and he calls you the little kid, jeez

you never told him but, you almost gave in

you never told him. but he probably already knows

ranpo san knows all after all; even you knew that by now

the two of you had also exchanged phone numbers and when the two of you showed each other what you each put for a contact name along with the note below, the two of you broke out into grins

you named him “the greatest detective <33″ & put the note “new nii-san <33 & bully </3″ and he named you “cute bakery girl” with the note “best follower, sweets supply & annoying little kid”

when he left, you properly closed the bakery and taped a sign to the door saying that you closed early for personal reasons

when everything was cleaned up, you marched up into your bedroom, plopped on your bed, and took a nap

you deserved it

at the agency not too long after that, ranpo had arrived and when he opened the door, everyone rushed towards him in concern asking if he was okay

he waved them off and walked towards his desk and plopped down in his seat

he placed the two bags in front of him and took out a box of cream puffs and started to snack on them

his coworkers watched him blankly as his scarfed down one after another

after finishing that box, he rummaged through the bags to look through the different kinds of pastries you’ve given him 

noticing that there were people still staring at him he paused before sighing in exasperation

he began to whine at his coworkers saying that no one told him it was gonna rain and that they were lucky that he happened to be in front of Sakura’s

“why did no one tell me?! it was pouring and i was soaked! you guys are lucky that (n/n)-chan’s bakery was right there! you would’ve probably lost me! how would the agency even function without me here?!”

no one wanted to be the one to tell him that they had no idea who he was talking about and that they did in fact tell him that it was gonna pour

they can save that, and their questions for another time

Just not in the *phase* where I feel like posting anymore. But I'm back here because my brain is finally gearing back into stuffs thanks to Bungou Stray Dogs 😂

I haven't been able to get this out of my head, it's more like a prediction or a theory and I wanted to write it down somewhere

Currently Dazai and Fyodor are still in jail, talking in coded language because they're *that* smart and the last I remember from Nikolai Gogol is that he wants to kill Fyodor right? Because he's had enough about the man manipulating and brainwashing with that smugness on his face-

And he's bringing Sigma along to use his ability so they can figure out what exactly is Crime and Punishment.

And I still don't have a full grasp on how Nikolai's ability works but what if he'll be able to access to the space where fyozai is currently in 🤔

I have no doubt that the place certainly must've something to block off ability users from using their skills, not to mention it's heavily guarded and the location is a top-secret information.

But maybe later, after Dazai gets freed from the cell bcs Ango or his superior (the one that got stabbed by Sigma I forgot his name I'm sorry skdjskkdkd) bails him out- what if Nikolai and Sigma approaches him to make a deal?

Oooh I love imagining this scenario 😂

That "what if"

Nikolai Gogol probably pretty much figured out they can't win against Fyodor's mind but there's someone who is on par with said man: Dazai Osamu

And I keep getting mind blown by how far Dazai had planned/thought of what's coming bcs he knew something serious is about to go down. He even called Akutagawa 2 days before the ADA was framed like wow sir, your mind, it amazes me 😩

He also knew he was being followed and I also have no doubt if he *wants* to escape the scene to warn the others, he definitely would've done that. But nah, he lets himself get captured to get to Fyodor ASAP.

So honestly it'd be so damn interesting to see if the 2 members of the Decay of Angels who are supposed to be dead according to Fyodor's plan- secretly forms an alliance with Dazai to get the upper hand on Fyodor.

And idk what they'll offer to Dazai in return though I haven't think that far- maybe his safety? A position in DOA replacing Fyodor? It make sense jskskskksksk

OR WHAT IF Dazai's the one who approaches them first to make a secret deal behind everyone's back because he wants to wipe off that smugness off of Fyodor's face as well. He'll probably offer them freedom from the DOA? 🤔

OH AND.

Remember that Fukuzawa and Mori made a deal to help hide the ADA members in exchange for one of them to join Port Mafia instead? Yea...... you cannot convince me otherwise that Mori wants to use this oppurtunity to get Dazai back to the mafia.

Mori did asked for Yosano but no doubt Fukuzawa will be hella mad if he finds that out later because he did specifically said NOT to ask for Yosano. And Mori didn't insist it after saying it once though so he's probably being a dick OR he's planning to get Dazai from the start.

Can you imagine the scene 😩

Dazai couldn't have known about the deal that was made or he could've because he predicted it in one of his scenarios

I can already imagine by the end of it and after everything's gone back to normal, Mori with his cat-like smile asking for the 'payment'.

And he all but drops the bomb on the ADA members that he'll be taking Dazai Osamu in exchange for helping them before.

And oh boy, I can already imagine Dazai's pensive face staring straight in Mori's eyes with that "try me, bitch" aura.

But also like- here's the thing, back to Nikolai and Sigma.

What if Dazai accepts the offer to be one of the DOA 😩 temporarily no doubt because he knew DOA would lose, he's only there to add more fuel to the fire before switching back to ADA

Or Nikolai and Sigma could start off a new organization/team because the rest of the world thinks they're dead already anyways. You can't kill them if they're already dead 🚶🏻‍♀️

hi!!! i've been okay :) classes are going pretty well, i'm REALLY enjoying the one law class i'm taking (stretches out my little hands for more) so in that regard i am just living my very best life. the rest of them are decent but it is hard to beat that one. i've actually started trying to take up poetry on the suggestion of a girl in one of my classes and i think i'm at least not horrible at it lol. i think prose is still more my style but poetry isn't half bad either, especially free verse because fuck rhyme and meter i do what i want.

unfortunately i do not have the job anymore :( it was a temporary position but wow they did not make it clear just how temporary it was going to be. i worked from thursday through to the saturday of the following week (except on sunday) and then that was it. so my contributions to the college tuition are not exactly skyrocketing. i did win a scholarship though, it's small but i take what i can get. why must college be sooooooo expensive the cruel hand of capitalism crushes me

i'm also considering signing up for a little show at my university i kind of want to try comedy... i might be awful at it but it could also be fun, who knows. i haven't made a real decision yet though i'm too anxious about possibly being bad at it lol

he'll just go 'HAH?!' and my day will instantly be improved. like of course he's gonna be yelling and screaming and such when he's literally being taken over by a god of destruction and calamity it's the fact that he keeps doing it all the time that just makes it perfect. and the SCREECHING i know EXACTLY what scene you're thinking of and it's one of my favorite examples. dazai's just sitting there with a whole little party set up complete with absolutely enormous cake (boy did the cake look good) and then just the quiet (at first) scream slowly getting louder and louder and the war between 'yay, chuuya's here' and 'oh god he's gonna come in through the window, goodbye cake' and you can SEE dazai having basically the same reaction i mean he sighs and looks towards the window like 'and i went to all this effort.'

i think the screaming is his internal rock star coming out. i mean he IS voiced by taniyama kishou, it's to be expected. (speaking of which, have you listened to any of his songs outside of the ones he did for bsd? because i've been listening to this one he wrote apparently way before bsd, 'sugar', and there's one part where it DIRECTLY MENTIONS chuuya (the real one) and it cracks me up. irl foreshadowing. plus it's just a catchy song) whole reason i'm weak for aus with chuuya as a singer is because it just already works. he might as well be. in my mind it is nakahara chuuya singing the bungou stray dogs openings. i manifest it.

also let's talk for a second about how i can count on one hand the amount of times chuuya yells about something that is completely unrelated to dazai. those two are a riot.

also also on that subject ranpo was so brave to pull that trick with the book like if he'd gotten even a little bit wrong he would have been so pulverized even yosano couldn't do anything. he would have been dust. this man intentionally pissed off someone who literally has a god of destruction inside of him. really brave... and also really stupid

he IS so little and angry though bsd wan was on point making him a chihuahua bc thats exactly the vibes. tiny loud and ferocious. i love him. one of the best characters in bungou stray dogs and that's just a fact. [claps] where is he asagiri show me the tiny angry man

One Punch Man 2 1

This season’s name…sounds counterintuitive, to say the least.

I love how Genos is carrying a box of hijiki (which looks like hair) and Saitama’s wearing a shirt that says “hair” (in kanji) all over it. It’s funny for a bald man and his “work of modern art”.

I never knew Genos was so blunt. Maybe because the last season was a good 2 – 3 years ago…and was by Madhouse and Shingo Natsume, and so this feels slightly different.

Oh, Sonic…! I didn’t realise how much I missed you! (Not to mention, you look hot with the off-the-shoulder shirt, y’know?)

“Enoki” is a type of mushroom.

It’s Takamatsu being Takamatsu again. Also… I forgot to mention this earlier, but…Taiga Umatani seems to be related to Kurari Umatani (who is credited for Boueibu), so…I wonder if it’s a collective writer’s name for Studio Comet, like Izumi Todo for Toei? The only thing that goes against that is the fact “Kurari” existed during the Diomedea days of Boueibu. Also Isekandar seems to be related to Yamato’s Iscandar (which Takamatsu seems to like, based on the fact he once used Matsumoto metres as a shorthand for being in space). If you don’t understand, Yamato’s endgoal contains a place called Iscandar and that’s by Leiji Matsumoto.

Okayyyyy…what are these rabbit creatures…? But yes, it does smack of Boueibu simply because the episode layout’s the same.

Hmm…? So Robby seems be En (the do-nothing life) in spirit, but Kinshiro in background, but also he runs away from his fortune. “Hmm” indeed.

Oh! That’s what this string of misfortunes reminds me of! The monsters of the day from Boueibu.

Hatchi is a Kinshiro in looks but an Atsushi by being a goody-goody.

Hmm…they actually bother to show girls now…apparently Takamatsu went to a boys-only school, which is why his original works focus on dudes (as in, you can pick out when Takamatsu is adapting someone else’s work because it has a heavier focus on girls as supporting characters).

Mechs and spaceships are probably two of the only ways I accept CGI…and you, Takamatsu sir, have just done it (the latter)!

I just really like how Tanjiro’s eyes grew larger with what was clearly resolution before he closed the door.

Why do the non-descript hunters look like Giyu too…?

I’ve never seen KnY so comedic…and that’s coming from someone who thought the Head Demon fight from last episode was funny.

Welp, this is…kinda interesting (<- says a fan of Touken Ranbu).

This letter writing…it reminds me of Kekkai Sensen somewhat.

This realistic water…it’s beautiful, but it looks like it came straight out of Niagara Falls. Is that…too realistic for anime?

I’v read the wiki page for Chuuya enough to know the next few eps involve the LN Fifteen, so even though I haven’t read a translation of the source material, I know some of the ins and outs of it already.

I think at this point in time, all viewers are used to Dazai’s bulls*** by now.

Is it just me…or did Bones use CGI for the city? It actually looks kind of good…! Sasuga Bones!

I have a fic that predates Fifteen and could be set in the same period (the fic’s vague enough that it could’ve been them at 15, 18 or even 12)…and basically the only thing I got wrong was the fact Chuuya doesn’t have his hat (because I wrote Chuuya as having his hat in the fic). Also, the banter is tenser than I imagined it, but that’s subjective and something only I, the fic writer, can compare.

I wonder who the yellow-tinted Ability holder is…? Update: That’s Randou. Spoke too soon.

Well, with only one suspect (or 3, if you count the Sheep kids), it was quite easy to figure out one of them was behind it. I kind of suspected Randou, anyway, considering what I’ve learnt from all the mysteries I’ve read.

Because I was watching this episode with the volume down low (so I could hear the OP and ED), the volume really did work wonders for the plot this ep…!

King of Prism – Shiny 7 Stars 1

This is the final debut of the season, so basically how this and Shield Hero perform will decide what will stay and what will go. Oh, yeah…apparently this is the companion to a movie, but the movie and TV series have slightly different content.

Oh…my goodness! Nekoyama (Cat Mountain) Mokichi (written with kanji for “hair” and “luck”). It’s a Boueibu monster! Frick, I’m laughing too hard!

It’s very small and very thin, but the word next to the cat in the eyecatch is neko.

“…Meow God!” – It’s a pun on “Oh, My God!” but with a “meow” in it. It’s pretty forced, but it does get the nuance of the joke across…

Why the heck did the subbers choose “herb” as the word for weed in this? “Weed” is sufficient, right? Right…?

The title translates better as “…but I want to steal”. Y’know, add a little force into it.

Daiki Tasaki - Anthem of the Heart

At first, he’s an asshole. He didn’t get enough screen time for a good position, but I wanted to mention him nonetheless! He also mentioned the role to Kouki Uchiyama who ended up playing the lead quite well. What a reliable guy always looking out for people who’re younger than him!

Loki Laevatein - Kamigami no Asobi

[I remembered the harem by who voiced them. I don’t remember their names. Behind the bushes: Hosoya, Toshi, Miyu, Kamiya. Behind the post: Daisuke Ono, I actually don’t know those two. RIP]

I didn’t even believe this was him at first. I checked a couple of sites. But wow, that was unexpectedly good? His character is one of the only that I remember vividly from that harem (I watched it for Saori Hayami, to be honest).

Fumikage Tokoyami - Boku no Hero Academia

Give him more screen time. That forest “test of courage” scene was not enough. And that scene where he tried to hide his room was funny because that’d be me. You’d just walk in and go, “Why... why is there nothing here?” I have a table, a fan, a bed, and a closet.

Jin Asukai - Boogiepop

This series is still airing, but this character-- wait, I don’t want to spoil it. It’ll come together at the end, but up until now, he gives off both a charismatic and creepy vibe. It’s pretty cool.

Kojou Akatsuki - Strike the Blood

I technically haven’t finished a season, but I put up with fifteen episodes with this crappy series.

He has proclaimed this as one of his strongest roles, and he has mentioned this in a few interviews when asked what left an impact on him as an actor. I should watch it, but *hiss* I watched one episode and fell asleep twice.

5. Doppo Kunikida - Bungou Stray Dogs

After reading the manga up to the current point, I can say that it only gets better from here on out. Although it’s far more comedic in season one and season two focuses on Dazai’s past more than anything, I can say that Kunikida continues to be a strong supporting character in seasons to come. 

Fun fact: He mentioned in an interview that one of his favourite authors is Haruki Murakami who’s Kunikida’s grandson in real life! He likes the book: “South of the Border, West of the Sun”

4. Hal - Hal

I can’t say too much about this role without spoiling it, but it just worked out so well. The studio that did Haikyuu and Attack on Titan doing a sci-fi romance drama? Sounds odd at first, but it turns out to be an anime that really makes you think.

3. Haruhiro - Hai to Gensou no Grimgar

Same with this one, but I’m just going to say, after a major death in the series, the tone really changes. You think this is going to be a simple “isekai” kind of anime, but instead of going the SAO-route, they take a slow-paced route that allows characters to really develop.

2. Sentarou Kawabuchi - Sakamichi no Apollon

I can’t believe they’re supposed to be fifteen. Bruh. He’s 6′3″ (192cm). Anyways, Sentarou is a wild thug with a big heart, but we’ve all seen that kind of character before, so what makes him different? He rides the waves of adolescence, love triangles, and of course, that sweet jazz music. He’s the passionate drummer with a bit of a temper, but he’s one part of a great dynamic that resonates really well with Ryouhei Kimura. Besides that, I find it a bit hard to describe what I like so much about this role. It might’ve suffered from the rushed adaptation, but that’s definitely nothing on Hosoya’s part.

1. Nezumi - No. 6

This is a good ship. This is a great ship. I ship them with happiness. Same with the previous entry, this also suffered a bit from a rushed adaptation, but I enjoyed both of those anime. One of Studio Bones more underrated works, No. 6 was a great anime that fuses a sci-fi dystopian setting with two well-rounded characters. Nezumi is the rough and tough guy who met Shion at a young age. Hosoya and Kaji both voiced the younger versions of their character. After a series of events, these two go through an adventure to unravel the society that did them wrong. Seriously, you just have to watch the anime to understand why this was my number one.

my computer broke months ago, hence the lack of updates. apologies for that! i tried writing up a quick summary of my latest trip to japan on my phone despite that, since i really wanted to share some details with everyone.

i was in japan from february 1st to 21st! during that time, i saw tenimyu’s VS higa six times, which i will talk about in a separate entry. so for now, let’s talk about bungou stray dogs on stage, stage oofuri, mononofu & nostalgic wonderland, as well as spi’s valentine fanmeeting!

02.03 BUNGOU STRAY DOGS what better way to start one of my japanese theater pilgrimages than by going to see my #1 boy, hideya (7th tezuka), less than 24 hours after landing in japan? i also had the chance to see teruma (6th inui) & kuwano (2nd shishido).

what most impressed me about this production was the choice casting. people i usually am iffy on were given very fitting roles that they rocked in, and of course, hideya was able to shine as the very popular & multidimensional character that is dazai. i was really happy to hear so many audience members gush about how good he was during the intermission! i think it’s one of the greatest compliments for an actor when fans of the original work & characters enjoy their portrayal.

i also enjoyed all the effort & wit put into the staging, the supernatural aspect of the franchise put into motion in such smart & artistic ways. also hideya is fantastic, gorgeous, versatile, charismatic, perfect.

when i got home, i found out that ryosei (8th inui) had went to see the show at the same time as i did...

02.11 OOFURI ️ oofuri was such a lighthearted & fun stage play, which really carried the energy of the source material. fantastic casting decisions were made here, i had a lot of fun both discovering actors i knew less and also seeing actors i’ve known for a while in person for the first time!!

i was mostly inclined to see the show because mashu (7th momo) & junpei (2nd marui) were in it!!!! i love them so much and was really happy to see them perform. they have very sparkly eyes and mashu is just such a delight to watch.

ps. ino hiroki is ridiculously handsome

02.12 SPI’S FANMEETING this was my first time going to an event without any tennis motivations, but spi is just such an amazing guy who’s always been very welcoming and inclusive towards his foreign fans, so i thought i’d honor that by attending his fanmeeting. well, of course, i also think of him as an amazingly interesting person and a fantastic performer!!

he had an entire talk section dedicated to sharing toumyu gossip, which i loved. he notably mentionned how arayan (2nd inui) is The Greatest Senpai Ever, that mario (7th eiji) has hilarious over-dramatic reactions of relief and keeps complaining about how tired he is when they’re finally done training, and that imari yu has this tendency to wrap his arm around whoever is sitting next to him...

otherwise, it was mostly spi showing off his wonderful voice with a variety of english songs. including a one direction song. help. he made a few jokes about english stuff, like how funny he thought the lyrics in real love story (tonbokiri’s solo) were, and each time he would look into my direction in a moment of north american bonding... i felt like i couldn’t unleash my full fanboy self bcuz we had an unexplainable bro bond now

after the event itself, much like for tenimyu, we had to wait our block’s turn to get out of our seats for miokuri. while waiting for my turn, an older lady came up to me and started talking to me in english, asking me where i was from, if i liked tourabu, if i’d go see take me out, saying her friend & her saw me earlier and thought i was cute, thanking me for coming, etc. now, i’m not going to assume anything, but spi did make a joke at the start of the event asking if there were mothers in the room (said lady cheered), and i also know for a fact that spi’s mother is an english teacher... hmmm...

afterwards, i got to meet spi! he handed each of us a rose since it was valentine’s day, which i thought was absolutely adorable  i was getting ready to ask 英語でいいですか？ before saying anything in english, just in case, but he was the one who super excitedly started talking to me in english, asking me where i was from & all!! we talked for a surprisingly long while considering it was just a miokuri! i was really happy... i also went WOW YOU’RE SO TALL I’M SURPRISED bcuz i’m never prepared for anyone that isn’t an inui to tower over me

02.16 MONONOFU  i went into this show excited to see so many of my favorites gorgeous boys, notably tsune (2nd atobe), kubohide (2nd niou), arayan (2nd inui), kent (3rd shinji) & sugie (2nd yuuji). since i didn’t particularly enjoy or understand the previous titles of this franchise which i had seen on DVD, my expectations for anything other than eye candy were fairly low. i ended up pleasantly surprised, as a fan of japanese history & the bakumatsu era in particular! this segment of the story covered the shinsengumi’s fall, with kondo isami’s execution & okita soji’s death at the hands of illness. i actually ended up crying along with everyone else in the theater, the actors’ performance & dramatic staging allowing a really emotional, honest & down-to-earth portrayal of a story we all love so much.

and of course, tsune was incredibly hot and kubohide really does look like that and arayan is so cool and kent is ridiculously handsome and sugie is a charismatic angel. but everyone was really fantastic! i knew ryosuke from kamen rider ghost, but his portrayal of okita really touched me. i also thought it was super cool how katsura’s actor was a legit kabuki actor! so impressive to watch!

02.17 NOSTALGIC WONDERLAND oh this show. THIS!! SHOW!! you guys!! this was undoubtedly one of my favorite things i’ve ever seen on a japanese stage!! okay, i might be a little biased because i’m a really big fan & collector of all things 60s~90s, but really!! this was just a bundle of joy, nothing but singing & dancing & casual talk segments between the actors.

the story here is actually pretty funny. i initially didn’t get a ticket for this, thinking “okay this would be fun but i already saw miura (3rd atobe), ikumin (3rd oshitari) & masa (1st niou) in person and i’m not supposed to spend money on anyone other than seigaku anyways”. then my love for miura amplified tenfolds. then my friend was like hey i have an extra ticket. then i was like i shouldn’t. then i watched shinken ranbu sai. then my love for miura amplified even further. then i was like okay please. i need that ticket. then my friend is like okay sure here is a pic of your ticket btw! and i see. the words. “Guest: Yata Yusuke”. written on the ticket. i have never been so happy to have ever decided to go see a show.

so, yes. i had the chance to watch yata (7th fuji) perform in person. he sang Open Arms by Journey, which was an absolute delight. a song i love and a voice i adore. i actually found myself crying while listening to his singing. listen... y’all know how much i love 7th cast. this meant a lot.

during the talk segment, miura was extremely excited to introduce yata, and is so jumpy, happy & clingy near him! it’s adorable! these two have been senpai & kouhai before miura’s days in tenimyu and continue to work together to this day. yata, in classic 7th fashion, was incredibly entertaining & hilarious in all of his crude honesty and lack of fucks. notably just saying “i don’t know these guys” about everyone who wasn’t miura, ikumin, masa & utsumi (2nd saeki), being absolutely exasperated and lacking in any efforts when asked to do cute fanservice, and also getting upset at masa for talking so much instead of letting him sing his solo. beautiful.

but my favorite moment was when miura exposed ikumin as a being a huge fan of yata! saying he always sings yata’s tenimyu songs when they karaoke! ikumin was incredibly flustered, but he confirmed this and straight up said “yata’s fuji is the best”. he then proceeded to kneel on the floor and reinterpret yata’s boku wa kawaru from VS shitenhoji for at least half a minute. i was howling with laughter, i can’t believe this was even allowed to happen?? where is the tennis police?? (too scared of miura and a 7th, probably.)

back to the actual show! they performed a wonderful variety of our songs, from The Karpenters to Blondie to Elvis and the Backstreet Boys as the great finale. absolutely incredible content. we all know the range of singing and/or dancing talent from our tenimyu boys, but the other actors were also really incredible singers, one is a trained ballet dancer as well, and another could play a wind instrument! sheer talent all around. miura & the other dancer, rui, had a contemporary dance number together, a very sensual one at that!!

there was also a lot of fanservice & audience interaction! and of course, i wound up with an alley seat. let’s start smoothly. i got a wink from masa when he stopped at our row during the final number!! and a big smile from ikumin during his solo!!

but what still has me *ahem* Shook to this day... is miura. yeah. during his solo — a cover of Venus by Frankie Avalon — he walked thru the alleys, doing cute fanservice with a few audience members, up until he stopped right in front of our row. i was smiling so widely from 50% happiness & 50% nervosity, and then he ended up looking right at me. held out his hand towards me. and smiled so beautifully as he continued singing. i think my heart actually stopped beating in that moment. and my hands were still shaking by the end of the show. i’m fine. yeah. uh huh

“Free day.”

Ryuunosuke didn’t budge, but the way he sat up straighter on the sofa implied that he was listening.

“We have a free day,” Atsushi finished. He was lazily stroking Shiro, who was stretched out on the dining table, eyes closed in content. “Dazai-san didn’t send any mission objectives.”

“That doesn’t mean we’re free,” Ryuunosuke retorted, turning around. “You must always be on standby in case an emergency ensues.”

“You’re too serious about these things,” Atsushi whined, relinquishing his gentle hold on Shiro. The cat yawned, and jumped off the table. It padded into the room, presumably to where its bed is.

It was overcast in Yokohama, though the weather reports stated that rains wouldn’t start until later in the evening. The nimbly branches outside swayed in the occasional gusts of wind.

“Don’t you want to relax, at least?”

Ryuunosuke stayed quiet for an inappropriate amount of time. When he opened his mouth to answer, Atsushi beat him to it.

“If you don’t want to, it’s fine.” He stood up from the table, seemingly annoyed, and made a beeline for their shared room. If there was another thing Atsushi was good at other than trusting his gut, it was the fact that he can barely keep his emotions in check. Every expression shows on his face with livid energy, and it always manages to startle Ryuunosuke. Even the subtlest of expressions are always evident on his face.

When he emerged he was wearing a white button down, black slacks, grey sneakers, and his threadbare messenger bag.

“I’ll just go out for a bit.”

“D-Don’t be out so late. The string—”

“Yeah, I know.” He closed the door behind him, leaving Ryuunosuke with an awkward, stifling air. He groped around the sofa for his cellphone, and speed-dialed the first person that came into mind.

“Gin?”

“What’s up? You never usually call like this,” Gin said jokingly on the other end of the line. “What’s wrong?”

“How…How do you know if you…annoyed someone? Also what do you do after that?”

“Oh?” Ryuunosuke could almost see Gin raising a questioning eyebrow at him. “What did you do this time?”

Ryuunosuke made an outraged noise, but continued talking anyway. “He was…offering to relax…and…”

“You turned him down. Because you said to always be on standby in case of emergency situations.”

“How did you—”

“Big bro, I’m your sister. Of course I’d know.” Gin sounded extremely proud of herself on the other end. “And besides, I don’t think Atsushi-kun is actually mad at you.”

“I’d understand that you’d know my mannerisms well enough, but how can you be so sure of that?”

Gin was quiet for a while. Too quiet, in fact. Ryuunosuke had to check twice if the call was still ongoing.

“I think…I think Atsushi-kun is well past that age where he’s mad at your for everything. You’re partners now. He’s more patient with you, at least.”

Ryuunosuke looked down guiltily at his free hand, which he balled up into a fist as though to serve as reparation. “I see.”

“Also, he can’t get mad of you because of the occasion today.”

Ryuunosuke’s thin eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Occasion?”

“Wow, now I can see why Atsushi-kun’s annoyed with you.”

“Hey!”

“Kidding. It’s Valentine’s today, big bro.”

“I’m back!” Atsushi announced cheerfully, all too suddenly that Shiro jumped awake.

“Welcome back.”

“Yikes, you sound like someone just died.” Atsushi joked as though the events that morning didn’t happen. “Did you just stay on the sofa the entire time?”

“…Kind of?”

Atsushi giggled, wherein Ryuunosuke then noticed that Atsushi was hiding something behind his back.

“How was your day?” Atsushi brightened up, making the dim room suddenly brighter (Atsushi’s smile bore the ferocity of a thousand suns, it’s ridiculous).

“Oh! I met up with Kyouka-chan, and we got our usual crepes at the Red Brick Warehouse. She never really gets tired of that place, and, oh! After that we went to Cosmo Clock 21, then the Cultural History Museum, then Zou-no-Hana terrace. There was a café there with really good coffee…”

His smile was small.

“Maybe next time, we can go there.”

Ryuunosuke nodded. “That sounds nice.”

Outside, the sun sank completely below the horizon line, casting the world in a dying glow. The red string materialized, daintily tied to their pinky fingers.

“Here, I got these for you.”

Atsushi thrust out a fist holding three long stalks of sunflowers.

“Because roses are too cliché.”

Hesitantly, Ryuunosuke took the flowers (a crazy metaphor about how the bringer of death was holding something full of life plagued his mind).

“I’ll look for a vase.”

BSD movie trailer is out and so is my tinfoil hat

 Ok, so, the Bungou Stray Dogs trailer just came out today and after I was done with all my squealing and fangirling, I realized I have one too many questions about all of it, therefore I did not hesitate to put on one too many tinfoil hats. And so, my theory discussion begins.Five seconds in the trailer and I was already going “Ok, awesome, but what in the living hell??”. Let’s be honest here, that castle is astounding, but with its appearance came a lot of questions: Where is it located? Whose is it? Why haven’t we seen it in the series before? What’s its purpose? Why were Dazai, Fyodor and the recently introduced to the public character, Shibusawa, in it?  And many more. But I’m going to take a look at these four today, as I’m mostly wondering about them. Let’s start! :D 

Where is it located?  There isn’t much details or information to suggest where the exact whereabouts of this palace are, not even in the translations of the plot of the movie I stumbled upon. But if I were to guess, I highly doubt it’d be anywhere in Yokohama or even near it, as we would have seen it at a certain point in the main series. Although, it is still most likely somewhere in Japan, for a bit I thought it could also be in Russia, but why would that be? There is nothing to suggest Fyodor is the owner. Which brings us to my second question:  Who owns the palace?  I feel like the the manor being in the possession of Dostoevsky is out of the question, to me he doesn’t seem like a person, who is fond of typical for the medieval period buildings. Anyways, the fact, that Tatsuhiko is not part of any of the current organizations we are currently aware of, suggests he must have  some sort of headquarters, leading to me assuming, that said castle belongs to him. Makes the most sense. I could also theorize that it belongs to Fitzgerald, but so far, he hasn’t even been mentioned in anything, related to the project, so, it’s honestly pointless to even bring him into this. Why haven’t we seen it in the series before? Well, I sort of answered my question in the beginning. I believe that not seeing it before is tied with it’s location, further supporting, that it is nowhere near Yokohama. I even considered it being an ability and that made sense, until I became aware that it is absurd, if we mind the fact about Dazai’s ability: any other power it touches gets nullified. At first the idea of the castle being an ability seemed very appealing to me, as it explained a lot, but it, sadly, just doesn’t make sense.  What’s its purpose? As I mentioned above, I believe that it’s a base of sorts, for now I don’t know what else it could be, but its surreal proportions make me curious if it has another purpose as well. Why were Dazai, Fyodor and Shibusawa in it together? Now, this is the question that has been bugging me the most, especially considering we have Dazai there, too, who is in no way a villain anymore, his mafia days long abandoned behind his back. So, what is he doing with the two main antagonists? Well, I have three theories about that. First one is the most unlikely, but I will talk about it anyways. All in all, Dazai, upon disappearing “into mist” joined the enemies, because all of a sudden he decided he wanted to rid the world of ability users. Sounds pretty impossible for two reasons: 

 That would go against what Odasaku wanted and let’s be honest here - Oda is like a God to Dazai (Not really, our favorite bandage-wasting device just respects him greatly, but you catch my drift);

Nothing up to now has suggested, that Dazai has been wishing to do that. 

But there is one reason, that our walking mummy might have joined: They offered him something, that is seen as impossible to be done, which might and might not be bringing back Odasaku to life, unlikely, but could also explain the cut of him we see and why Tatsuhiko collects abilities: to merge them into one God-like super power. Although I can’t really see that happening, so I’m moving onto my next theory: Osamu was forced to join against his will. I think this is very probable because I quote: “And Dazai, who has disappeared into the mist”, which could suggest an abduction. To support the theory, that there was at least a kidnapping attempt, there is the following line from the trailer: “Did you think you would be able to capture me?”, said by Osamu. Except kidnapping, it is also viable that they could have very much threatened the agency or something dear to him, leaving him no choice, but to join, in order to protect said thing. But most likely he got threatened, as I feel like if he was abducted he’d be chained up, similar to when the mafia held him captive.  And my third and last theory when it comes to this question: Dazai is sent as a spy by the ADA, pretending to have betrayed them. This, too, isn’t very likely, considering Fyodor would most likely sniff up their plan before they could even start executing it. 

Well, that concludes my first pack of questions, onto the next one. Why is everyone either hunting Dazai down or wanting him in their little “Doom” party? Why is Dazai still alive, is he that valuable to Shibusawa and in what way? 

Why is everyone either hunting Dazai down or wanting him to join their organization? Okay, this has me, like, hella puzzled. We literally hear Dazai say “Did you think you would be able to capture me?”, later on Akutagawa gets a line as well:  “Dazai-san …will be killed by me.”, which could also mean, that someone else is meaning to kill/capture him as well, this being further supported by Ango’s crew pointing their guns at Dazai. Why do they all want him dead so bad all of a sudden? Last we checked, no one really was THIS determined to get rid of him. So, I humbly assume, that this is because he WILLINGLY joined Shibu and is now seen as a traitor (wow, Dazai, making it a habit, aren’t you), which supports my earlier theory, seeming almost impossible, until I got this far into my so-called “analysis”. And if I am to accept, that said theory is what actually will happen, then what is that special, almost divine thing that made him join? Is it really a promise to bring back Odasaku? 

Why is Dazai still alive, is he that valuable and how so?  Now, I have made two main assumptions about that. First one, appearing to be more inviable: Osamu is seen as like-minded by Shibu and Dostoevsky and his ability - genuinely handy. But it just doesn’t seem to fit, Dazai never had the same ideology as them, as far as we know, neither is his ability that helpful or meaningful to them, if the work was getting done just fine without it. Then, that brings me to my second theory - the evil team is afraid of Dazai, that he can make their long scheming crumble and go to waste with just the touch of a finger, something, that is further supported by this quote: “If I touch this and make it disappear, everything will end.”. But even so, why don’t they just kill him? Good riddance and very easy, what is really stopping them? Well, I have to say, that is hard for me to comprehend and the only thing I can think of, without anything, that suggests it is like that, is that since Tatsuhiko collects abilities, if he were to kill Dazai and we are to assume, that no matter who killed the said ability user, Shibu still gets to absorb the power of the person perhaps via an item no matter if he wants it absorbed or not, Osamu’s ability would affect all the others in some, most likely negative, way, given that it can nullify.  Well, time to finish this off with and absolutely preposterous theory, that the reason we see Odasaku and probably mafia Dazai along with Chuuya is because two parallel Universes are crossing paths, one being our regular BSD Universe and the other - one, in which Dazai never left the mafia. Just the wishful thinking of a fangirl... :D  But anyway, this concludes my “analysis” of the one minute long trailer... :D

This, I must say, literally took me a month to finally sit down and be like “Okay come on Jasmine, you KNOW you want to write this, and even if this series may take a while to come to a conclusion but you do wanna write this part. DO IT. DO IT NOW!’ but I also must admit and add that the many nice reviews and comments from the here and the AO3 pages have really accumulated to my confidence, plus also IRL genuine boost of motivation from a lot of my friends, family, peers an even mutuals who really acknowledged my writing skills and continuously support my writing endeavors. It’s been truly a blessed progressive journey. 

To be really honest, I wasn’t all too sure how well-known the ‘Chuya x Reader’ writings I have here reach out because I’ve always been only writing mostly for otoge that fanfics that are non-otoge has kind of been out of my spectrum for a very long while - especially the ones more romance. But writing with passion for both Chuya and the art of writing itself, I wanted to really get this out there and I did it - I’m thankful for many who not only took time reading but also enjoyed both my writing and the stories. 

This series may come in a few parts as I still have a lot of ideas for it, just as also how Part 3 took the longest time for me to finally decide on a scenario because it has a lot of ideas of how it can branch out to the next part but then finally decided on one, it didn’t turn out the way I wanted to because I have a habit of never really plan my stories but only go YOLO WHAT IS PLAN PSHT YEAH RIGHT spontaneously see where my hands take me. So to speak. 

But! Still happy with how it turned out because it was still samiliar to the original initial idea. And also just very happy I really got it done. 

Anyway! Enough rambling for me. I’m so sorry for the wait and once again, thank you for your support!

Breakdown: 

- Atsushi and Dazai are still following the couple for (Dazai) blackmail material and (Atsushi) curious unfolding of unexpected sides to Chuya! Dun dun! 

- But at a clothing store?! 

- Wow so Chuya must really love to spoil his lover, huh? Ohoho

Atsushi had to only keep it to himself that again, part of him is quite curious about wanting to find out more of this unexpected side of the infamous Nakahara Chuya, who is also one of the biggest figure of endangerment and name of death itself within the Port Mafia; he doesn't have that many memories of getting into any encounters with him but being a witness of silly to deadly silly bantering between Dazai and him gives him a lot more of a reminder to not cross the 'petite mafia'.

"Honestly, Dazai-san," Atsushi said wryly as he offer Dazai a sundae cone, "Don't you ever think of the chances we could get caught? Nakahara-san is quite sharp.."

"Pfft!" Dazai scoffed, followed by a small chuckle as he took the sundae, one stroke of his tongue for a taste before he hummed softly in approval and then look at Atsushi, "A man is still a man when he's in love. Ah that reminds me... I hope my battery doesn't run out since I still need more photos for blackmail material..."

"Dazai-san!" Atsushi chided, but of course he wasn't expecting the taller male to actually do the opposite; it's almost amazing to think Dazai actually take sinister pleasure in this 'stalking mission' not only to do more than to prove his point, but he also knew Dazai is quite serious about keeping those photos for blackmail material.

Ah he wouldn't want to imagine how the very person they are 'stalking' now would react to those photos, but in hindsight he began to get curious how did he look like in those pictures - especially with the way he seems so unguarded and relaxed around his lover. She must truly be a special human being to hold such significance in his life.

Atsushi took a quick glance at one of the photos in Dazai's camera roll, his posture relaxed as his expression became more contemplative, "He looks genuinely happy despite he has his temper. I figured it would be hard to date a Mafia, or even for him to be able to relax in his free time to date."

"Mmm well," Dazai hummed, "Let's just say if the situation have changed in a sense she's part of the Mafia just to be in a relationship with him, danger lurks and follows in any direction really." Then he shifted his gaze to observe the couple from afar, and Atsushi noticed the devillishly playful light in his eyes dimmed.

Maybe Dazai must be ruminating of the same kind of possible situation and the predicaments that would follow, especially since he had been in the Mafia for the longest time before finally getting out of there and joining the Agency. Perhaps in some ways, Dazai could relate but at the same time Atsushi had to bear in mind that it's not easy to compare when these two are two different personalities.

Atsushi look down on the ground, "Dazai-san..."

"Ah! But not to miss a fact that Chuya is an embodiment of danger so PSHT as if there's much to be concern about!"

Oh lord, nevermind already.

Atsushi's lips form a thin line of a frown before his expression soften, just knowing deep down his senior may not have really meant ill entirely. For some reason, despite he's still quite on edge at the anticipation of sooner or later to be caught by Chuya, he also wouldn't mind just learning a little bit of what is it like for an ordinary life for a Mafia.

Of course, at least from a 'safe distance' observation that is.

The two silently followed the couple, remaining stealth and flexible with their movements as they made sure they would stay fairly further away as they trudged inside a clothing store. Which is quite an amusing choice for a change of location to them because this time it isn't really the lover's decision to walk inside here but Chuya's.

"Chuya, I have quite enough clothes already, you know." His lover said with a sigh, smiling up at him wryly as she watch Chuya shuffling through a clothes rack of what seem to be a tidy lineup of evening gowns. She tilted her head to the side, blinking, "Are we going somewhere or something?"

"No," Chuya answered her curtly, then taking a step back as his eyes move from one end of the rack to the other end, then looking back at her with a small light of love in his eyes; while he isn't smiling and his lover had to hold back her giggles because it's as if Chuya is the one pouting over not getting a dress he wants, she knew Chuya's affection for her is immense. "Why didn't you tell me if you needed a new evening gown for the upcoming annual dinner? I have to hear it from Kouyou-aneesan since she said she wanted to take you for clothes shopping."

His lover folded her arms with raised eyebrows, "I didn't want to tell you because what is the point of surprising you if I did?"

Chuya frowned, "Don't lie to me. It's the washing machine, isn't it? The last dress I bought for you was tattered so you tried to keep it from me."

Seeing the surprise apparent on her expression, Chuya knew it must've been really hard for her to try to keep it from him because she must've predicted if she told him the accidental damage happened to the dress he bought for her last year for last year's annual dinner, it wouldn't actually upset him but it would upset her more to think of a way to tell him about it. He love to spoil her, and that is also one reason she would try to keep it from him.

Finally, she unfolded her arms, let out a heavy sigh of defeat. Both her hands reach out to cup his cheeks, Chuya didn't move a budge as his blue eyes focus on her, her touch so delicate and warm that he wish he could just enjoy this ardent attention all to himself in his own private space and time.

"You need to stop spoiling me or spending on me like this. We're getting out of here." She said, trying to hold a firm tone to her words but when Chuya held his hand up to hers, and seeing the snarky smile, she frown hard. "....Chuya. No."

"My day off, I get to decide so I decide to buy a new dress for you. Hell if you need new clothes--"

"But Chuya..."

"You said you wanted to surprise me. You still can. Just try on something, anything and get what you like. You're gonna surprise me for sure." Chuya crooned softly with a small note of seduction that it almost made her stop breathing for a second; he leaned forward and she realize his blue eyes illuminating with so much kindness and love - it's almost hard to believe this is the same fearsome Nakahara Chuya.

"But...but it's really expensive here..." She whispered, trying to at least do her best to convince him but as usual for a stubborn man like him, he refuse to go back on his word.

Chuya snorted, then look over to one of the staff standing from afar and then snapped his fingers to call her over. When she did, she stopped and then gave a polite bow, trying to hide a small smile to herself at the adorable sight of the couple.

"Yes, Nakahara-san."

Chuya didn't waste any time as he spoke curtly but direct, "Assist her in what she needs. Make sure to get the right measurements. I don't care the cost so just add it into my name."

"Chuya!"

"Go on now," Chuya softly whispered to her, patting at the small of her back to usher her away with the assigned staff, "I'll be outside and around." A small smile of triumph etched to his lips when she finally let out a heavy sigh and surrender to his kind offer.

Meanwhile, the duo who had been watching the whole spectacle from afar exchanged looks; Dazai still look greatly amused, Atsushi wasn't sure what is the proper reaction but he have to admit it was quite fascinating to watch them.

"Nakahara-san really like to spoil her, huh," Atsushi commented with a dry smile. Dazai chuckled, but the slightly cordial moment was brief as he took a while to glance around, his eyes narrowed as he noticed a shady man donned in black carefully making his way towards Chuya, dagger ready in hand.

"Ah, I surmise this isn't the only reason to be here..."

Atsushi was confused at first, until he followed Dazai's line of sight, his eyes widened. He was about to make a quick sprint to prevent an incoming danger to happen but Dazai quickly held him back.

"D-Dazai-san! What if--"

"You don't want to blow our cover too soon, do you?" Dazai interjected, smiling, "I wouldn't worry if I were you, you know."

"But..."

"Watch." Dazai said as he urged Atsushi to keep his defenses down.

Atsushi had his reservations but as soon as he turn back to watch how the 'incoming danger' would entail, his eyes widened in astonishment at how quick Chuya had already dodged the knife, taking the man by surprise for a moment but he wasn't given enough time to retreat or shift his movements when Chuya suddenly grab his arm, his free hand clasped on the assailant's mouth.

"I had a hunch I was followed but I didn't think you would be this smart to come all the way here," Chuya murmured coldly as he twisted the man's arm, muffled his scream with his other hand before pushing him down on the ground; he snapped his fingers to signal one of the employee of the store [who surprisingly isn't quite taken aback by the physical feud for some reason] to open the door of a vacant changing room.

"Chuya!"

Chuya grabbed the assailant by the back of his shirt and then threw him inside the changing room, just in time for his lover to come out of changing when the door of the other changing room banged shut.

He turned around to see his beloved making her way to him, wearing a casual floral one piece dress, added with a silk floral scarf to match with the cute combination. Thankfully he had taken care of the attacker before she notice or else not only would he have to explain to her about what happened but he really don't need the unnecessary worry right now when he's on his date.

"Is there a theme for this year's annual dinner? I forgot to ask. Koyou-san didn't tell me but I thought you'd know." She asked curiously, then giving a brief twirl to show him, "What do you think?"

"Not that I know of," Chuya answered, looking down to take in the view of her in the dress, "It's cute. But this time I want you to choose a few more selections. We only picked one last year, maybe about time I get you to grow that collection."

When she started to frown with disapproval, he knew she was going to argue. With a small charming smirk, he leaned down and then quickly peck her cheek as though to assure her.

"Come on, I'm just saying I want  you to get more." Chuya crooned lovingly.

She sighed, "But Chuya, this is really expensive...and it's not like we go on that many dates for me to wear them..."

Chuya patted her shoulders, then gently turn her around and called the same employee over to assist her, "Alright then, stubborn girl, I'll make time so we can go on more dates for you to wear them. Now go. Take your time. I'll be around here."

She knew it is either she would continue to be more stubborn or he would continue to be more persistent but either way, in the end she also knew she could never really prolong such a silly argument between them - not when Chuya always make sure he would try to be the more dominant one. Besides, if they had spent more time bickering because of their stubbornness, the day would only be quite a waste and the date wouldn't go on - it's just so much better at times to just compromise and appreciate what's more important.

Once Chuya made sure his beloved is far away enough and occupied with her time in trying out few selection of dresses, along with the employee's assistance, his eyes narrowed as he turn to the employee who's standing next to the changing room the assailant is trapped inside.

"I'll handle this by myself. Just make sure this doesn't reach Koyou-aneesan. I don't need her nagging at me again." He coldly blurted out like it's both a command and a comment as he cracked his knuckles.

The same employee only give a sheepish grin, "Understood, Nakahara-san." Once she had affirmed her acknowledgement of the command, she open the door and Chuya walk inside with a look spelling murder and seven minutes ready to unleash hell - he crack his knuckles again.

"You're going to pay for choosing this very day to try to spoil my date..." He muttered coldly under his breath as the door of the changing room close behind him.

Atsushi winced at the shrilling scream coming from the same room, followed by loud thuds, bangs and the symphony of murder and punishment delivered by the man - who not only decided not to use his 'gravity manipulation' to beat the crap out of the unlucky scumbag but had once again proven he is just as terrifyingly powerful WITHOUT needing to use his ability.

"T-That's... Is this really okay? It sounds like it's going to get more than a bloody mess in there..." Despite Atsushi ask as though he really thought his conscience is trying to reason with him, the brutal truth is he really wouldn't want to go in there and step on Chuya's ugly side - that and also because it would be extra hell to pay if Chuya happen to find out he is also being followed by the very person he hate to stand one millimeter close.

Dazai chuckled, absolutely amused in comparison to Atsushi who's pretty much fretting a lot more for many different reasons, "I told you. Nothing to worry about. But this is definitely entertaining to watch, isn't it?"

Yes. Poor Atsushi has plenty of reason to worry.

He didn't have to ask, of course, what the next step would be after this.
