I like to imagine Narþil was made by Curvo with Telchar alongside Angrist. Curvo kept Angrist while Nelyo was gifted Narþil - Nar coming from the word Anar, meaning the sun, and þil coming from the word Iþil, meaning the moon. A sword of duality.

That sword was carried into the Nírnaeth Arnoediad, Doriath, Sirion, and hundreds of skirmishes in between. Maedhros used it to shed blood one last time for the Silmarilli before taking his own life. Maglor made sure it reached Elros, who Maedhros had half-jokingly said would get the sword should something happen to him, before Maglor himself disappeared from the narrative.

Narþil was passed through Elros' true heirs until Elendil. When he fell, Iþildur took up the shards. He swung, and he thought he saw a flash of russet hair, a copper circlet, glowing silver eyes.

Þauron's finger fell.

Like, I'm sure Tolkien would make Narsil a sword that belongs to good guys and stuff, but the idea of Narsil being Maedhros sword (maybe even made by Fëanor himself) makes me so rabid.

Like, Elros taking the sword that caused so much pain, that belongs to someone he both loves and hates, and makes it into part of his own kingdom for the purpose of good.

That sword being then broken by Sauron and finally used to defeat him in its brokenness (something, something, the redemption in battle that Mae never gets, something, something, symbolism).

And its shard then reforged into Anduril.

I know we often associate the canary with Sam, but I think Collin was the canary.

From the start he was singing the dangers of the job, trying to warn off everyone else. He tried to warn them, to save everyone by destroying the servers.

In the end, no one paid any mind to his voice until it was gone and he was dead. He died caged in the thing he tried so hard to escape, like a canary taking its last breath deep below the ground caged by the rocky walls that would spell its doom no matter how hard it sang.

To me, the best embodiment of modern capitalism is in the phrase "please hold, we are experiencing higher than usual call volume". I know it's a lie. You know it's a lie. But you still hear that line every time you call, regardless of the day or time, because it shifts the blame. It tries to prompt you to blame the other callers instead of asking, "Hey, why are they deliberately understaffing their call centers and making it so difficult to get help?" If parenting has taught me anything, it is the importance of getting down on your hands and knees and teaching not just facts, but love and enthusiasm for the natural world.

This is my son Q and me. I have dozens of photos like this by now, even though he is just two years old.

Every chance I get, I will kneel down with him and show him the little creatures all around us. Especially when they are frogs. He loves frogs for some reason. No idea why.

It is important that we all see this together. It is beautiful. It is magnificent. We are here. It is improbable to the highest degree. It is fleeting, but it is everything we get. And we can get so, so much of it. If we just get our faces into it and really absorb it.
