So, he has a new series out so I was reminded of my obsession with Ding Yuxi again and in watching some YT video about the new series I was again struck by how fascinating it is to me how different his looks can be. For example, when I watched the first series with him in the main role (The Romance of Tiger and Rose; which yes, I'll readily admit, I agreed to watch in a large part because I saw him on the poster and was like, well, I wouldn't mind seeing more of this 😏), there were two ~versions of him – in the historical and the modern setting:

And like yeah they all wear those wigs in historical dramas so that's not particularly remarkable, right. Little did I know that this was just a tiny tip of the iceberg

Because then when I went to look him up afterwards on YT etc. and the first pictures I saw were these:

about which I was at first like, is that even him? Like the face is just ... not the same in these? But ok, what do I know, anyway ... And then I watched an interview where he has yet another different look, and that seemed kind of in between, so that "bridged the gap" in a way. And then! – in that same interview – they juxtaposed him with another of his earlier looks:

and it's like, who tf is this person ?

It's just, idk, really amazing how much just different hairstyles, lighting, makeup, accessories will do. Obsessed

Other interview looks are nothing extreme

And obviously there's supposed to be more variety when looking at the different roles

But still, sometimes I'm just like, this is one person .....

And like, sure, these looks obviously aren't impossibly different, but comparing the different ends of the spectrum can be pretty wild

In any case, the one that brought all of this about was this latest one:

and idk at this point I shouldn't be surprised anymore. And yet ...

Anyway, I do actually love his acting too lmao

It is so... odd to me to call my dad every 2-3 weeks and now receive positive enforcement and... loving affirmation. Part of me short circuits every time. Part of me wants to spit it out, yell in his face that where was this when I was a twelve year old boy with a newly-deceased mom instead of being told I was a disappointment to her memory, where was this when you wanted to slap me across the face for talking back or talkin' smart? But part of me hears him and just crumbles, man. Because I described my struggles with my current job and trying to look for another job, and I allowed myself to be vulnerable and tell him how hard it was, and he of all people came back with understanding and telling me that I'm smart and capable of doing anything and I'm just sitting outside of my coffee stand in public trying NOT to weep now because I needed to hear that

ok but seriously, thank you all so much for all the support. i never really. expected to make it this far? like, ever?? i’ve mentioned it a few times on here, but i’ve been a lurker for the past… 2 years, i think? and even before that, i never gained much traction outside of a couple posts. so this has been. very new to me!! in a nice way!! it’s weird to feel like an actual member of a community!! that people know about!

the idea of finally coming back to social media was Daunting (i literally got stress hives writing my first post lol) and the warm reception really. meant a lot?? i don’t think i would’ve ever gotten the courage to come back if i hadn’t been encouraged to by the people over at the isat discord!!

the fact that people actually care about my art still doesn’t feel real?? seeing people take inspiration from my art is just. surreal. just. auagssh. thank you all so so much for everything, i really do appreciate it!!! i’m really glad to be in this community. sorry if this all sounds sappy and long winded i’ve just got a lot of emotions about this whole thing!!
