I think what I want to get into with the "Anyone can do harm." thing that I keep beating yall over the head with is that literally anyone, anyone at all can do harm it's not "in your DNA" to be an abuser or written in the stars that you'll be a predator. Whatever image you have of an abuser in your head, drop it and replace it with your favorite person in the world and you'll probably be closer to the truth than you realize. It's easy to address harm when it's coming from someone you already hate. I see it happen all the time. Someone you couldn't stand for no real reason does something heinous then all of a sudden here comes the avalanche of "I always knew they were a fucked up individual." No, you didn't. There is no possible way you could have known, you just already didn't fuck with them before they started doing something you could use to justify your hatred of them. I'm guilty of it too! I'm petty, mean, vindictive, and yes! I'm way quicker to believe something bad about someone I hate versus someone I love because I'm human. Still, y all gotta learn to move past that initial "Well, they were always nice to me!" gut feeling and understand that nobody truly knows anyone and anyone can be capable of anything. Even victims. Even you.

I cannot express enough that if your reaction, as a hobby artist, to not getting that many notes on your art is to say "maybe I should just stop doing art altogether" you need to stop posting art to tumblr

not necessarily forever, not even for long, but just stop putting your art on here and start doing it for you again, remember why you enjoyed doing art in the first place and stop relying on the attention of faceless people on the internet for your enjoyment of your hard work

believe me, I get it, nothing crushes the artistic soul quite like labouring for hours on a piece only for it to get like 10 notes, so you need to find your own source of joy in the act of creation and a lot of the time that means making art and not showing it to anybody

His Dark Materials is a franchise that tackles so many branches of physics and even creates a universe where the main course of study is experimental theology which is all about identifying and explaining dark matter while also adding dimensions to string theory, the multiverse theory, and the very concept of the human soul. At the same time, it aggressively calls out the problem with the state being controlled by the church, how people are condemned for being different and religious fearmongering stops the chance at growth both on an individual and a societal scale. It’s a franchise where the heroes of the story are two children who aren’t allowed to know the prophecy they’re a part of, who save the world unwittingly simply by doing what they believe to be right. Meanwhile, the person who thought he was the hero all along, the person who rallied an army from multiple universes to FIGHT. GOD. HIMSELF. is ultimately consumed by his own ego and forced to take a back seat when he realises he’s just one tiny piece of a much larger story that’s true heart is his own daugher. The child he abandoned, the child he didn’t know or care to know how to look after. It’s a franchise about finding love even when your biological family abandon you, it’s about looking evil in the eye and seeing your own mother, it’s about good and evil not being black and white but instead a complex and cruel mixture of both. It’s about the two worst people you know banding together at the last second to save their daughter with their final breaths. It’s about exploration and learning how to grow through experience, it’s about kindness being shared across the multiverse, exchanging stories with strangers and saving the whole world by doing something perfectly ordinary and receiving no reward.

Oh, and it’s also a franchise rich with fantasy, with giant talking polar bears, witches and ghosts, angels and daemons, and a mammal-like species from another world that travels exclusively on roller skates. 

And it fucking. rocks.

I've talked to fellow peaceniks who have lost the motivation to protest or donate out of spite for the western pro-palestine movement. I myself have become much more wary of it all. you're causing us to be resentful and then you complain like we were the problem all along when guess what, human beings (surprise, we are ones despite how much you want to think otherwise) don't have that kind of mental tolerance and you can't expect us to keep advocating for your cause while simultaneously having to tolerate your bullshit. in the end I think you're the ones who don't actually care about palestine, when you're actively rejecting movements and protests that are actually helpful as soon as they don't align with your worldview or your ego or your fantasies of a glorious violent revolution. your standards for what's considered pro-palestine and not "both-sidesing" are absurd, hostile and only harm everyone in the long run. peace is the ideal solution for all but you have made it clear you don't want that, you want "justice" based on your own misconceptions about a 2000 year old conflict you knew nothing about before and know nothing about now. you're in this to feel good about yourselves. Just to clarify my thoughts (since I've had a number of people ask me about it) re: Job and cursing God. There's a big difference between cursing God as used in Scripture and how we generally would think of cursing at God today.

Cursing someone, in the Bible, has a lot of depth to it. It's not just saying "screw you " in anger, it's got a sense of forsakenness to it. It's the opposite of a blessing, a removal of blessing. If the blessing is presence, your face shining on the person you're blessing, then a curse is absence. In some translations, Job's wife tells him to "renounce God and die," which I honestly think makes a lot more sense to modern ears.

Job says a lot of unpleasant things to and about God in his anger and grief. So do the Psalmists. A number of the Prophets. So can we. God can take it if we come to him with honest expressions of our emotion, including those not-so-nice ones directed at him. I don't think there's anything wrong with getting mad at God and saying, "How dare you, you bastard" when you suffer unjustly. You can say much worse, I think, without sinning, though I don't feel particularly inclined to give examples. But as long as it's an honest expression of your heart, I think you're doing exactly what prayer is for. You're presenting him your heart with an open hand. He can use that. Opposite of love is not hate but indifference, etc.

Job doesn't renounce God. Neither should we. But I think when you're truly suffering, you're gonna have those feelings toward God either way. He'd rather you address them with him directly than try to avoid them. Cursing at God in the modern sense is actually a great way to keep the relationship strong and not end up cursing/renouncing him in the Biblical sense.

Ughh I’m just kind of tired seeing the same pattern of carelessness from the devs. But I also dislike seeing fans disregard how some og players are feeling due to this new change. Like I’m happy that new fans will have a chance to get these og cards but it feels so bad to see the cards we once worked so hard for being rehashed for a quick money grab.

We complain & criticize the game because we care for it but also are tired of seeing the devs make decisions that only benefit them and not the players. I’m just tired of seeing people blindly defend a company that is proactively draining what once was a good game into a shell of itself. Idk I’m just kind of over it, I’ll continue to edit stuff for the game but I’d be lying if I said I don’t love the game as much as I used to…

omfg found the catch with spotify audiobooks being included in your subscription and it is that at some point you are out of "listening hours" (unlike other audiobook apps, it does not tell you how many hours you've listened to and it definitely doesn't tell you how many hours you have left, or even how many audiobook hours total you have been granted unless you go looking for it)(it is 15 hours) and when you hit the 15 hour paywall they graciously inform you that you can "top off" your account and buy extra audiobook listening hours (no you are not warned this would happen. when you start listening to audiobooks it seems by all accounts that it is unlimited)

and i was like okay, fine, for convenience's sake i'll fall prey to their scheme this ONE time so i can finish this damn book, thinking it'd be like, $5, considering the monthly subscription is $10.99+tax. but

you have to pay THIRTEEN DOLLARS! FOR TEN HOURS OF AUDIOBOOK! that will get you one full airport paperback novel or self-help book. most of everything worth listening to is longer than that

for that price you're much better getting a scribd $11.99 subscription which although it comes with its own faults, it will at least let you listen to a handful of complete books before it starts getting choosy

or better yet, get your audiobooks from your local library app. libby my best friend libby and her girlfriend overdrive would never do this to me

vfx, cinematography, acting, score, character development, lgbt rep etc are all 10/10 PLUS it has a bisexual black man as the lead who is the center of a throuple 🙏🏼 netflix has been horrid with marketing but I have faith in this little show (and it’s been praised by critics!) so lets get them their renewal 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

EDIT: it got cancelled and I expected nothing better from a streaming platform which actively kills its shows with people of colour at the forefront. anyway if you’re still planning to watch the show please do so because it’s genuinely good and the ending can be seen as definitive! congrats to the team for managing to make such an excellent show and they deserved so, so much better than being forced to perform in one MONTH and getting cancelled right after with no room to breathe
