I saw a video the other day that thos woman had filmed of "pranking" her husband, by surprise shaving q big ol clump of his beard. Because she didnt like his beard. And he had the audacity to keep it anyway.

And he doesnt even get angry, just sad and defeated. References her doing "crap like this all the time". And he says "if I took that and took off some of your hair that would be abuse, people would say its abuse but because youre doing it to me its different" and she says "yeah you better not" and she *cackling* the whole time like its fun and hes absolutely devastated.

That *is* absolutely abuse. And its also the effects of "men strong, women weak. Women have emotions, men not allowed emotions.". This guy is being abused and maybe only sort of recognises thats whats happening because hes a guy and his abuser is his wife and thats not the narrative. And thats not right. Men have to be allowed to admit vulnerability because how else do you reach out for help? How else do you name "this feels bad and relationships arent supposed to feel bad like this, something is wrong". How do you say "my wife is abusing me I need help" when youve never been allowed to show any weakness whatsoever??

Crying by itself *is* super important. But its not just "cant tear up in a movie". By not being allowed to display vulnerability, thats stops you from showing someone else that you need help. It means you just dont get meaningful support. And thats huge. Thats getting away from an abuser huge its likely life and death huge. We all need each other.

"being told not to cry isn't the same as violent misogyny" is like. yeah, obviously, different groups experience different things and those are never the same because they're different experiences. but like can we acknowledge that, for example, men experiencing domestic violence or any other kind of abuse often have trouble getting help or speaking up in general about it because of the societal pressures not to show emotion or vulnerability and that it's really dismissive and disrespectful to reduce the issue down to "being told not to cry" and none of the kinds of people that make these arguments are willing to acknowledge that even a little bit?

oh yep that's another thing people do when they are actively being dismissive of another group's issues. like yeah when you position it as "women are being MURDERED on the STREET and you're mad that men can't get a little teary at movies???" like you are actively trying to make it seem lesser. i've literally seen men say that they were told men are ONLY allowed to cry at their mother's funerals. and like you said, "men can't cry" is connected to all the other issues that leads people to not take male victims of abuse seriously and drives male victims of abuse to keep quiet because it's seen as shameful to show weakness. but when u reduce all that down to "men are told not to cry" it's easy to make it sound like nothing (especially if you are a cis woman who has literally no personal experience with how this impacts you)

dumb fnaf security breach thoughts but I am genuinely surprised Vanessa isn’t used more in fics. Used as in “literally it’s a miracle if she’s mentioned at all”. Which is really weird to me? Regardless of how you feel about how her storyline is handled in the game, she is like The Perfect character to have in your x reader fics. you need conflict? fuck dude VANESSA is right fucking there. (Romantic rival for a jealousy plot? She can get the job done. You need a mean bitch to make your self insert look better in comparison? SHE’S THE PERFECT LADY FOR THE ROLE. You need someone to hurt your animatronic of choice/make them turn evil/sabotage whatever you need? VANNY SLIDES RIGHT IN)

I mean hell, she could even be your coworker BESTIE, the typical “well she’s rude but she’s only nice to me bcus I am The Most Specialest Guy (gender neutral) in the whole world :)” and would facilitate certain plots if you wanted to. But… no?

Vanessa straight up doesn’t exist in most fics. People prefer to invent their own original named coworkers and regular joes to populate the background of fics but they don’t seem interested at all to even mention Vanessa in passing.

i love walburga so much, i think she’s so interesting. i think people forget that she was a woman in the 70s, and a girl in the 60s. to be clear, i don’t think she’s a redeemable character, especially not as an adult, but i do still think she’s a victim. <- two things can be true and everything isn’t as simple as black and white.

she’s painted as the main villain of the noble and most ancient house of black, but people forget she’s a woman. in the seventies!!! realistically, walburga held no power what so ever, was married off to orion against her will, and under orions control. she gave orion sons and an heir and did her duties as a wife. she’s a victim turned abuser. <- she simply didn’t break the cycle of abuse, tale old as time, etc. she’s been powerless her entire life, so she takes it out on her children.

me and kara talked about walburga a bit when we started talking about the bellareg marriage, and like, in the grand scheme of things, walburga isn’t really anything. she’s such a small pawn in such a large game, a game ruled by powerful pureblood men. she was born a daughter, something to be dealt with and bartered with, and ends up at the hands of a husband like her father. <- i wrote a bit about this in my bellareg oneshot. me and kara said that we think bellatrix grew up idolizing walburga, because despite being small in the grand scheme of things, she can appear so scary and violent. but as bellatrix gets older she loses more and more respect for walburga. she realises that she really is just a submissive and obedient wife, on a tight leash held by her husband. walburga doesn’t have ambitions that stray outiside being a wife and producing an heir. like, at the end of the day, walburga really is just a wife and a mother.

walburga’s abuse is allowerd because orion is the one to allow it. he’s the puppet master, the only one with an actual say-so in his family and with his sons. i’ve said it before when i’ve talked about how walburga is treated like the Main Villain, but a silent man (of the house) will always scare me more than a wife ’acting out’. orion is a man, and it’s bonkers to me that people don’t recognize that he’s the main villain and main abuser in the black household. he’s literally a massively powerful pureblood man in the seventies and people want to act like he’s somehow scared of walburga ??? (<- a take ive seen multiple times lmao). like genuinely, WHAT is walburga going to do to him. she’s powerless in her own marriage. even a disowned sirius is more powerful than she’ll ever be. even regulus, the spare, is more powerful than she’ll ever be. because they’re men.

to sirius, she’s a monster. he’s simply not able to humanize her (to me), and nor should he have to. she quite genuinely is his abuser and his own devil, and i don’t think he necessarily recognizes that the main villain of his upbringing is his father. <- not that he doesn’t hate his father too and thinks of him as his abuser. but to me, walburga is his actual devil. his monster under the bed, more frequent im his nightmares than his father. and like, yeah. that’s so understandable, and i don’t think that’s like the wrong opinion of him to have lmao. it’s never up to the abused to forgive and/or understand his abuser. like i said at the very top, walburga is irredeemable. when she becomes an adult the abuse becomes a choice, and she didn’t break the cycle. <- i wrote a bit about this, and how shocked sirius is to see walburga as a person with feelings, in my grief microfic.

reg, however, is able to humanize his mother. me and kara talked briefly about the spare & wife parallells and how that’s why he’s able to see her as a person. laurie @/itsjaywalkers reblogged a post a million years ago that said something like ’i wish they would invent a mother who wants to be saved’ <- and that’s how regulus sees his mother, i think. regulus knows what it’s like to be powerless, to be a shadow, to be less. but his mother doesn’t want to be saved, and so regulus doesn’t want to be saved. i’ve always thought that sirius is more like orion and regulus is more like walburga. <- and that’s also why walburga loves sirius more, and why she can’t stand regulus. it’s also part of a lot of conflict between the black brothers, the fact that sirius can’t humanize walburga and regulus can’t help but humanize her.

anyway! yeah, walburga is irredeemable & and abuser but at the same time she’s also a victim. people can be, and often are, both. it doesn’t mean she should be forgiven. i’ve talked lots here on quillkiller dot tumblr dot com how much it infuriates me when abusers are painted as evil heartless monsters that simply can’t help it because its ’in their nature’ or because they were ’born evil’ <- that’s simply just not how people and/or abuse works. abusers are people who chose to do that to you, who have feelings and lives and relationships and a past. it’s never as simple as black or white ! there’s nuance everywhere, babey

It's kind of funny to me that there are people who seem to be surprised when Claudia does things like depersonalize Rayla by referring to her as "[Callum and Ezran's] elf" in the Reflections short story when it's been clear from the very first episodes of season one that Claudia doesn't really see elves as people—or at least, not people worthy of basic rights or dignity.

When Runaan was cornered om the balcony and Soren was about to kill him, Claudia protested. Not because of any mercy, but rather the opposite. "We have more practical uses for this one," she said. "Tie him up!"

Earlier, Viren describes dark magic as "practical," so it's obvious what Claudia is referring to here. Runaan will be tied up and harvested for dark magic ingredients. Viren has slightly different plans, of course, but Runaan still ends up coined in the end. A fate arguably worse than death, by his own estimation.

Silly, goofy Claudia at her happiest saw an entire person as dark magic ingredients. There was no reason for that; she still had her father and brother, Runaan was dead to rights, Soren could have ended him with a single blow. But Claudia saw this person and thought, no, lets squeeze the magic out of him instead.

Claudia's actions have become more overtly brutal over time, yes. But she has always been like this. She has always had the same cruelty in her that led her to pretend to hand over Rayla's family, only for it to be a trick instead. Claudia does love Terry, but she says she loves him in the very same season that she tells Soren that elves are actually terrible and are just using him. For Claudia, Terry is the exception. One of "the good ones."

She has always been like this. Desperation has just driven those traits out more often. And it's part of what makes her so interesting.

The misogyny of the authors has rubbed off on the fans I see, how are you gonna tell a victim of domestic abuse that’s she’s a worse leader and suffered less than her husband.
