since we’re now talking about the racism in the phandom, i’m very glad it’s being brought to light so thank you to @dapg-otmebytheballs @demonqueenart and everyone else talking about this, i want to talk about cancel culture.
now i’m as white as they come, so before reading any of this i need you all to read the posts made by some of the people starting this conversation. here’s some links. xx xx xx xx xx
the reason i want to bring this up is because it’s something i noticed in a lot of the posts bringing up the behavior that dnp have/have had. its bizarre to me that we as a society, but especially we as a fandom, feel the need to disclose that bringing up problematic behavior isn’t an attack or call to ‘cancel’ someone!
to be able to have an open discussion where people CAN evolve and learn, bad behaviors need to be brought up without the immediate assumption that the person talking about it wants to bring harm to the other.
i am not here to defend dan and phil, they are well old enough to have these realizations on their own and stand for their actions, but, without the space to point out these behaviors, there will be no change. if these questions are being brought up within fandom spaces, why assume that the person means harm? excuse my metaphor but why would they set fire to their own house? i can understand wanting to take something with a grain of salt if it was coming from someone not in the fandom spaces at all, or someone not familiar with dan and phil whatsoever, but since it is the fans bringing this up, the absolute least you can do is believe them and listen.
wanting to see change is far from the same as wanting to see someone ‘canceled’ or lose their platform. these discussions are good and important to have, and i want to again thank everyone who has taken time of their days to speak up about this. it’s labor you shouldn’t have to do, and i really hope that we as a fandom learn from this. i know i will.

Fascinated by people just getting into WTNV and asking if there is a list of episodes to listen to, omitting the "unimportant" stuff I assume.
Chill, you all. Night Vale has been ongoing for around 11 years and it's yet to show any sign that it intends to end any time soon, so you can take your time. Even if it ended soon, there is time.
Enjoy the episodes as they are. Chew on them.
WTNV does this very special thing of making the town feel alive, not every citizen gets an arc or even a spotlight, but they're constant, they're there, living their lives. Those little details, little mentions of everyone growing and continuing living as time pass make it feel so nice.
And then, one day, Night Vale surprises you, and, oh, hey, remember that one intern whose death wasn't confirmed? Well, he has come back, and if you remember him and remember what happened to him at the time, you'll be able to connect the dots of the current arc faster.
The MOST unexpected things come back. The town is alive.
Just enjoy the ride! Enjoy Cecil's voice. Enjoy listening about this friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep.

I saw a fanart the other from who knows what fandom that was like that and I immediately thought of dming u this very same request (w the og post) because I could SO CLEARLY envision it with your style, but I was reticent to do so and now I have to send a photo stock OTL

Don't have to answer if you don't want, but why is going to law school a bad idea?
Law school is really fun! Being a lawyer is not.
CW Network Parody Song sums up the points pretty well, but here’s the longer version:
It’s a very stressful and very unpleasant job, no matter what area of law you go into
Seriously, being a lawyer means your entire job is to get yelled at for 9-12 hours every day, and having to be brave enough to stand your ground and yell right back. Yes, even if you do [x area of law] - and yes, even if you never see the inside of a courtroom. It’s a very mean and very aggressive profession.
You’ll be so deep in student debt, the only people who attend your funeral will be your creditors.
Law actually pays really poorly in comparison to the amount of work you do + your student loans. Almost every other profession requiring a degree pays MUCH better per hour than law.
The job market notoriously really sucks. It’s very hard to get a good job as a lawyer, even if you go to a great law school. It’s a crazy hustle culture with new grads searching for months and often fighting for scraps.
Due to ~21st century efficiency~ you’re expected to have a work-product and billed hour output that is basically impossible to achieve. You’ll agonize over every hour you don’t spend working, and then agonize some more about your billables. I, along with several peers, have been admitted to the hospital before due to extreme stress and exhaustion making us dangerously ill.
At least a fourth of the people I know who did everything right - went to a fancy high-ranked school, passed the bar, and got an excellent job right out of school - stopped practicing within the first three years because they were so miserable. In other law schools, it’s probably at least a third of the school.
Unsurprisingly, we have the highest suicide rate of any profession per capita - by a very wide margin. And let’s not talk about the alcoholism issue (something like 85% of attorneys)
To enjoy and be successful in the legal profession, you have to be someone who really, REALLY, *REALLY* needs to win at everything. Even in transactional law - you’re always trying to beat someone and “win” at the deal. And so you’ll inevitably become a bit of a dick, even if you don’t want to be. It’s not like morally abhorrent or anything, but you have to accept that you’ll eventually become a little insufferable to be around.
…and I say all of that as somebody who genuinely loves my job and loves being a lawyer. And who practices in a relatively lowkey, low-stress field of law, working for some of my favorite people on the planet.
Now, if you read all of that and said “fuck you! That’s all totally worth the feeling of winning a case/achieving an outcome and sticking it to the man!” then congrats - you’re the rare person who probably should go to law school.
Otherwise: you have only one life. Please spend it doing literally any other profession.
