Day 11 of drawing Sonic for every splatfest.
Grasshoppers vs Ants
Tumblr media
This one was a little weird, the prompt was, "which are you more like, a grasshopper or an ant" and I wasn't really sure what to do with that. Then I looked at Callie and Marie's dialogue for the fest and saw that the actual prompt was, "do you procrastinate or not?" That kinda threw me off a little but eventually I decided sonic is team grasshoppers because he tends to do things at the last minute.
Also the official splatfest art had these little marshmallow tooth fairy looking things so I added one here as a little treat :3

Author: Kevin Carson Topics: health care, left-libertarianism
Mutualist, at the livejournal blog of the same name, writes on “Building Consensus with Egalitarian Liberals in Healthcare Reform.”
His argument is that libertarians and egalitarian liberals are likely to disagree on demand-side issues like single-payer insurance vs. medical savings accounts, because they’re so closely tied up with differences in purchasing power. But liberals are more likely to be sympathetic to proposals to open up the supply of healthcare to competition. Breaking the power of the license cartels and the patent system, and eliminating barriers to a fully functioning market (i.e., permitting price competition through advertising) would drastically reduce the price of healthcare and greatly empower the consumer.
And, I’d add, if we did that, discussion of demand-side reforms might be a lot more politically feasible.
Liberal welfare-statism is a pretty natural--if misguided--reaction to a society in which the state, through privilege, creates great disparities in income. Privilege creates massive distortions, made cumulative through the process of feedback, that must be dealt with somehow. One way of dealing with the consequences is through a Rube Goldberg device like redistributive welfare policy, another layer of policy to counteract the first layer, to prevent underconsumption from becoming too destabilizing and the underclass from becoming too radicalized. The other way is to eliminate the privilege itself--a lot simpler.
But make no mistake. If the privilege remains, statist “corrective” action will be the inevitable result. That’s why I don’t get too bent out of shape about the statism of the minimum wage or overtime laws--in my list of statist evils, the guys who are breaking legs rank considerably higher than the ones handing out government crutches. All too many libertarians could care less about the statism that causes the problems of income disparity, but go ballistic over the statism intended to alleviate it. It’s another example of the general rule that statism that helps the rich is kinda sorta bad, maybe, I guess, but statism that helps the poor is flaming red ruin on wheels.
Libertarians need to stop admiring the emperor’s clothes and pretending that disparities in income reflect the triumph of industrious ants over lazy grasshoppers. Liberals might be a lot easier to talk to then. That Galt’s Gulch bullshit can be kind of hard to listen to sometimes.
I’ve argued elsewhere myself, by the way, that we need to go beyond cooperative solutions to healthcare finance, and get into cooperatively organizing delivery of service, as well.

speaking about the fact that sozo seems the be the only one infected by the unnamed cordyceps-inspired fungus. irl, theres different splits (subgen) of cordyceps and each of them i think can only infect One Type of Host. like irl split subgen of cordyceps that seems to the inspo for sozo's parasite is Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, all of them in this subgen can only infect one tribe of ant called Camponotini, and cannot infect any others. i think?? (due to reproductive isolation yadayada) so i always sorta linked it in my head that "oh its only infecting sozo because it can only infect ants or something like that".
[or whatever, take my words with a grain of salt im a random autistic artist who graduated from highschool like two years ago,,,,,, that just happens to have a special interest in biology lol]
Yeah I sorta wondered that as well!! It could be that the type of cordyceps within game is just extremely specified to ant folk, in which case my theories get even more complicated because then anything could be going on there (the menticide itself causing the infection, a separate fungus causing the infection, the mutualistic stuff I mentioned,,,)
I just wasn't totally certain n didn't suggest it being super specialized since 1)
When I was taught very broadly about cordyceps, we were shown images of various insects getting infected from grasshoppers to beetles, so I wasn't certain how many generalized vs. specialized cordyceps were sporin around hdgKJSHG
and 2)

Woke up thinking about how part of why I am the way I am is when I first heard the ants vs. grasshopper story I was in first grade but as old as a second grader. Anyway...I watched a lot of PBS and Discovery channel so I knew why grasshoppers die before winter and all I could take away from the story was this:
The grasshopper knows he's dying. That's why he does what he does
The ants are technically being rude to basically a great-grandpa who's dying
Even if the ants took the grasshopper in, it wouldn't work because the grasshopper can't get enough food anyway
Even if the grasshopper tried to save back food, he wouldn't be able to save back enough food and the ground is going to freeze and kill him anyway
I couldn't talk to my teacher about it because she didn't want to have the "What if the grasshopper knows he's dying?" conversation in front of t he rest of the class, so I had to stew on this one by myself.
So in the end it became less a work hard or else story for me and more everyone dies so you need to make the most of it because you can't escape death. Then after I moved a few years later and became that one kid everyone bullies (including the teachers), I also started to take from it (since this was around the time of A Bug's Life (1998) came out) that people are going to hate you on principal so you might as well do what you want because they're going to get upset about you either way.

This + the fact that staying alive is Too Fucking Expensive.
Two months ago I got a UTI that rapidly traveled up to my kidneys. If you leave a kidney infection untreated, you can get sepsis and die.
I was pissing blood, in pain, could barely leave a toilet, and every urgent care was booked. The only choice was to go to the ER.
The bill, with insurance from having a min wage full-time job, was 3,500 dollars.
I could not have possibly saved that much money over time. Not with rent costing the amount it does. They're just charging too much for healthcare. There's no grasshopper vs ant bullshit here. They are extorting money we don't have or we die of sepsis.
no amount of budgeting will make up for the fact that we simply do not make enough money

Yall know that post that talks about using your phone for the "smaller internet" vs using your laptop? That's how I feel when I'm on a walk and I watch an ant or grasshopper.
Like I see what Big Nature is up to (looking at the birds and larger animals) but I wonder how little nature is doing (<-watches a series of ants communicating)

some from this note i made in a writing app
also:
marina’s in-game models don’t have ears because she’s never seen without her headphones
there are multiple sea cucumbers in the deepsea metro, found near goals or in other places of certain stages
the skill tree in RotM’s outline changes depending on what species you are
during a big run, salmonids can be heard in the sewers
octoling rendezvous is the only song to make it into every story mode unaltered.
in the art for the ant vs grasshopper splatfest, callie is seen catching…something (a scallop, iirc?), and marie is seen keeping it in an enclosure tied with a pink bow. (presumably from her outfit, maybe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the scallop makes a reappearance in the perfect brain vs perfect body art,
Tumblr media
and it can even be seen in splatoon 2, inside the same cage it was in since callie caught it.
Tumblr media
question #3: what is the most useless splatoon knowledge you have. for me its the fact that agent 3 (splat 3)'s male counterpart is represented the least out of the other agents

Jean-Claude Brialy and Gérard Blain in Les Cousins (Claude Chabrol, 1959)
Cast: Gérard Blain, Jean-Claude Brialy, Juliette Mayniel, Guy Decomble, Geneviève Cluny, Michèle Méritz, Corrado Guarducci, Stéphane Audran, Paul Bisciglia. Screenplay: Claude Chabrol, Paul Gégauff. Cinematography: Henri Decaë. Production design: Bernard Evein, Jacques Saulnier. Film editing: Jacques Gaillard. Music: Paul MIsraki.
Chekhov's gun plays a major role in Les Cousins, heightening the suspense about who will use it on whom. But the film isn't a suspense thriller, despite Chabrol's admiration for Hitchcock, so much as a deliciously perverse adaption of some classic fables: the country mouse and the city mouse, and the ant and the grasshopper. It also resonates ironically with Balzac's Lost Illusions, the novel that a bookseller (Guy Decomble) allows Charles (Gérard Blain) to "steal" from his shop. In the Balzac novel, a young man from the provinces goes to Paris to seek fame, fortune, and love, and his misadventures wreak havoc on himself and the people he loves. In Les Cousins, country mouse/ant Charles goes to Paris to share an apartment with his cousin, Paul (Jean-Claude Brialy), the city mouse/grasshopper, while both study law. Paul is a somewhat decadent hedonist, who tries to introduce the straiter-laced Charles, who is very much dedicated to his mother back home, to the delights of the city. One of these delights is the promiscuous Florence (Juliette Mayniel), with whom Charles falls in love, only to have things end badly when she chooses to live with Paul instead. Chabrol fills the movie with quirky, somewhat sinister characters, though never turns the film into a clear-cut tale of good vs. evil. Innocence doesn't triumph over cynicism here, though cynicism pays a price, which is what makes Chabrol's film such a grandly satisfying one to watch and to think about afterward. Blain and Brialy (in a suitably Mephistophelean mustache and beard) are brilliant, and the cinematographer, Henri Decaë, gives us a grand evocation of Paris in the 1950s.

Eco Pest: Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions
Are you tired of using harsh chemicals to rid your home of pests? Eco Pest: Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions may be the answer you're looking for. With the growing concern for the environment, many people are looking for alternative solutions to traditional pest control methods. Introduction: The Need for Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions
Pests are a common problem that many homeowners face. Whether it's ants, spiders, or rodents, pests can cause damage to your property and pose health risks to you and your family. These products are designed to target pests while being safe for humans, pets, and the environment. Some examples of Eco Pest: Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions include:
1. Essential Oils

Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder made from the fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms called diatoms. It is effective in killing insects and other pests by dehydrating them. Diatomaceous earth is safe for humans and pets, making it a popular choice for Eco Pest: Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions.
3. Beneficial Insects
Beneficial insects, such as ladybugs and praying mantises, can be introduced to your garden to help control pests naturally. Ladybugs, for example, feed on aphids and other soft-bodied insects, while praying mantises feed on larger insects like grasshoppers and crickets.
Benefits of Using Eco Pest: Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions
There are several benefits to using Eco Pest: Environmentally-Friendly Pest Control Solutions, including:
