so one time i got bit by a brown recluse which is one of the only types of spider in my area that's actually dangerous and at first i didn't know what had happened to me, only that it was nasty. the swelling wasn't going down and the wound started to get ugly. i don't want to like get into the details because that's gross but it got to the point 2 weeks later that i was worried enough to go to the doctor, which i hate doing.
i am not afraid of spiders but other people are so i'd been covering it with this big ole square bandage (i needed more landscape coverage than a simple bandaid) and sat in the university medical waiting room, kicking my heels and playing BOTW. the nurse who admitted me was like, oh, we have got to get Tom to cover this one. she wrote spider bite under my ticket.
i waited in the near-empty building for like an hour and then nurse tom shows up in spiderman scrubs, out of breath. "sorry," he says, "i saw - your slip - and I had," he heaves in a breath, "to run home and. get. these scrubs. i literally. ran. felt like a job. for. spiderman."
i laugh. he puts his hands on his knees, thumbs-ups at me. fishes a pamphlet out from under his clipboard that basically says spiders can be scary but you don't need to be scared, there's very few dangerous spiders in new england. "honestly," he wheezes, "we probably don't need to get you into an exam room. just..." he waves his hand at the pamphlet, "read that."
i look down at my arm. then back at him in his scrubs. and then down at my arm. i like that he made an effort to make a joke, but now it does not feel like a good joke, because they are mistaking my calm for a lack of injury. "can i. like. at least show you the bite?"
he gives me kind of a weird look, which is fair, but then says. "if. i mean, if you have to."
i peel the bandage off. his face goes green.
"oh," he says.
"yeah, man."
"a... spider bit you?" his voice is high and tight and trembling. he backs up a few steps.
"i think a brown recluse," i offer. "i know it's nasty, sorry."
"excuse me for a moment." he looks over to the administering nurse on the other side of the small room. "i need to find someone else to take care of you."
the administering nurse smiles over to us with a degree of pleasure that is almost salivating. for a moment, like a window opening, i am briefly aware of what must be a psychic message floating amongst the in-between. her jaguar teeth all say this is like a party for me and i know exactly what i'm doing.
"oh no, tom," she says, grinning. "i gave her to you specifically."
#this is a real thing that happened#i then waited in an exam room for another hour until a doctor was similarly dismissive until he saw it#and then just gave me antibacterial cream which didn't help the swelling lol#it went away on its own like 4 weeks later#but that's like not the fun part of this story#i was just like. suddenly in the middle of someone else's work drama and GIRL#btw found this extremely funny#edit in the tags: oh ! i thought they were native to NE !!! ???? omg#i mean a real doctor really saw the wound and said ''brown recluse'' so i assumed he was right i never googled it#i lived on a mattress on the floor in a house of people who were always travelling#so like i guess it could have been ANY spider???#omg.....#the way this rocked my whole world

Machete is much like meringue with his pure white and often pointy appearance and very hard and brittle surface that if you are able to break through reveals sweetness inside.
Vasco on the other hand resembles honey with his rich and warm yellow color that softly flows to embrace anything it touches. His softness must not be mistaken as a weakness for he can be strong and tough like the sugar crystals rendering honey solid, but he can be returned to his soft form once again if shown a little warmth.
And most importantly, soft and warm honey can soften the hard surface of meringue, without breaking it.

#anons getting all poetic in my inbox again#ough#augh#I've compared Vasco to honey before#honey is antibacterial anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants#it has a long documented history of being used to treat wounds and burns#and if stored properly it refuses to go bad it can stay edible for thousands of years#answered#anonymous#Vaschete scenarios

This modified stainless steel could kill bacteria without antibiotics or chemicals
An electrochemical process developed at Georgia Tech could offer new protection against bacterial infections without contributing to growing antibiotic resistance. The approach capitalizes on the natural antibacterial properties of copper and creates incredibly small needle-like structures on the surface of stainless steel to kill harmful bacteria like E. coli and Staphylococcus. It's convenient and inexpensive, and it could reduce the need for chemicals and antibiotics in hospitals, kitchens, and other settings where surface contamination can lead to serious illness. It also could save lives: A global study of drug-resistant infections found they directly killed 1.27 million people in 2019 and contributed to nearly 5 million other deaths—making these infections one of the leading causes of death for every age group. Researchers described the copper-stainless steel and its effectiveness May 20 in the journal Small.

i think it would be really funny if regis had a kind of fucked-up haircut
“he could save everyone except himself” but like with regard to the barbery, and not the surgery. kind of like when chefs don’t cook very well for themselves. or when fashion designers wear sweatpants all day.
but moreover. i think the aesthetic effects of a bad haircut would help to dampen his natural lugosian allure and good looks. to reduce any potential suspicions
#by fucked-up i mean asymmetrical and messy. maybe a little wiry#this is partially why i like to draw regis with some bangs over one eye#an angel of your rising sign darkens the evening with his one good eye…#it’s like he cannot be at his full potential#there’s like a code to it i made up#bangs over one eye = normal#bangs over both eyes (and head a little lowered) = drunk. in a despairing or disoriented state#bangs blown out of both eyes by invisible wind that somehow manifests to dramatically caress the hair of vampires = this is at castle stygg#at the same time. when he has long hair then it must be tied back for reasons of ~medicine and hygiene~. like the rolled-up sleeves :)#but the bang ideas can be used in tandem with long hair headcanons#one of my friends once said that geralt regis and angouleme all need hair over their forehead bc they're large forehead gang LOL agreed#the other reason for bangs over his eyes is that the visual design communicates that he doesn’t take things too serious...#like regis is chaotic good. cahir is lawful good#cahir keeps his hair out of his face. he has curly hair and that does not = messy hair. you can have neatly kept curly hair#i go back and forth on regis' hair texture but messy is a quality that sticks with me on the topic#like his hair is messy in the same way that his cottage was messy#in a way that communicates humility and introversion and being too deep in your own thoughts to#concern yourself with what other people may think if they saw you. and not expecting guests lol#the elbow-high diaries#c: regis#like he is wearing black robes (with no mentioned embellishments or adornments). girl what do you think his hair looks like#he's not starring in a l'oreal commercial anytime soon#however when they get to beauclair and attend the october banquet maybe it's a different story for one night#i love the idea of regis dressing in that velvet kaftan and cleaning up and geralt questioning like has he always been this fine?#cleaning up figuratively as in doing your hair and wearing nice clothes. bc in the literal sense regis is the cleanest of them all#the herbs have antibacterial antifungal antipest properties or whatever

thinking about the adam's red sclera you were talking about. if his aura is constantly trying to prevent it from getting worse, would someone with aura amp semblance like jaune be able to cure it? it wouldn't give him back his vision, but stop the chronic pain maybe?
it also gets me thinking about the fact that blake has chronic pain on her scar where he stabbed her (i cant recall where the chronic pain fact was mentioned nor implied, so i cant really tell if it's canon or fanon), which got talked about a lot back when the volume was out
In theory, I don't see why an Aura boost couldn't help cure an infection. It completely closed Weiss's injury and that was complete impalement open to the air! A true feast for bacteria. I imagine even modern doctors would struggle with a wound like that
Once again, though, we bump against the reality that a) Adam shouldn't have this infection after literal years. (6 years minimum if my math from the comics is right.) It should've either been healed or taken out to prevent more damage, and b) Auras aren't consistent throughout RWBY because the writers care more about Events than Story. In some cases, Aura will stand up to incredible amounts of force and others be shattered in a single hit, even with the same character! (Ex. Ghira in the v5 fight vs the ambush in the Adam short/Yang in pretty much any fight yet going down in a single hit from Neo in v8.) Scars are just another Event for the writers, story and logic be damned. (Seriously, how the fuck did Cinder lose both her arm and eye? I don't think the writers know. Or care.)
As for Blake's wound, that is 110% fanon. I have no idea how a stab just above the hip would lead to chronic pain. Perhaps in flashbacks or nightmares she would relive the pain, but unless there were complications with the healing (considering she was leaping on rooftops shortly after, this is not the case), that should be the only pain she gets. I can only hope someone made an ignorant mistake rather than deliberately foisting more suffering onto Blake just so Adam would look worse
#rwde#anon hours#yang didnt even get phantom pains for her *lopped arm.* aint no way chronic pain for a stab is canon#the way people want blake to suffer at a much higher rate than any of the others is just Weird#and its always as a result of Adam or to prompt a reaction from yang (or weiss when its racist shit specifically)#anyway i know less abt modern medicine than i do for medieval practices#did you know that honey was used as far back as ancient egypt for its antiseptic and antibacterial qualities?#or that a guy named john bradmore invented a new instrument for extracting arrowheads from deep wounds?#its called the bradmore screw and it looks like a torture device. probs felt like one too since painkillers are a more recent discovery#reading the iliad really prompts the mind#back then infections were the biggest thing to worry abt bc they had basically nothing to cure them#they could only prevent as well as they could w herbs and warm water#terrifying to think abt

Aizawa never smells the same.
He always take morning showers when he’s still half asleep. He’ll grab whatever soap is nearest him to wash up with. No need to look, soap is soap and it all cleans the same. If it doesn’t lather, it’s probably conditioner and he just tries again.
Sometimes it’s one of Hizashi’s 300 hair and body products.
Sometimes it’s Eri’s ‘No Tears!’ apple scented kids shampoo.
Sometimes it’s whichever scent body wash Hitoshi liked the best at the store the last time they went.
He never smells the same, and this fact is a closely guarded and much coveted secret by those who have gotten close to him enough times to know.
#before he found his family it was unscented antibacterial bar soap for everything#shouta aizawa#hizashi yamada#hitoshi shinsou#bnha eri#bnha#shut up grandpa#mha

Codename Milk and Honey
#yes that's actually the name I had in mind for them#ever since 2018 or so#biblical symbolism#means state of prosperity abundance and freedom from want#honey is antibacterial and doesn't spoil if stored properly it can stay good and edible for hundreds of years if not more#whereas milk is only good for a very short time and quickly becomes disgusting#answered#anonymous#if we're being honest if I made an actual webcomic or other piece of media of them that's what I might call it

Wound treatment hydrogel infused with amino acid kills bacteria naturally and promotes cell growth
Hydrogels are popular for use in skin ailments and tissue engineering. These polymer-based biocompatible materials are useful for their abilities to retain water, deliver drugs into wounds, and biodegrade. However, they are complicated to manufacture and not very resilient to external forces like rubbing against clothing, sheets, or wound dressings. They are also not inherently able to battle bacterial infections, so they are often infused with antimicrobial drugs or metal ions, which can cause antibiotic resistance and negative effects on cell growth. In a paper published in APL Materials, researchers created a hydrogel that is easier to synthesize, contains natural antibiotic properties, and promotes cell growth. "A diabetic patient may have skin wounds that do not heal easily due to metabolic disease," author Jing Sun said. "The patient may try to treat the wounds with topical medicines such as erythromycin, and it may be effective at first, but over a long period of time, it may fail to relieve symptoms. This could be due to antibiotic resistance."
