Letter from Monica Caballero, political prisoner of the $hilean $tate, to the Bosque Baucis Animal Shelter : “ Building anti-speciesist empathy”
X Monica Caballero
There are people who do all kinds of things for the well-being of beings of other species, that is, for non-human animals. What is it that motivates these people?
What is it that differentiates them from those who passively observe (and/or are part of) the slavery, torture, and murder of countless animals?
I believe that there is no single, uniform answer to these questions, but it is very likely that a compelling argument among those who build anti-authoritarian relationships is empathy.
Simple and straightforward empathy, which is the ability to put oneself in the place of another. And in this case, the other lives dominated, imprisoned, tortured, etc., just for being of a certain species. The latter is speciesism.
Speciesism that cemented a reality in which the other exists to satisfy the desires of the dominant species, which sees the body of that animal as a product.
As an anti-authoritarian, anti-speciesism seems to me to be a logical consequence of ideas and practices, so knowing that there are people who have managed to build a space to shelter animals seems beautiful to me.
Girls from Refugio Bau, I send you a big hug, which I hope to go and give to you.
Mónica Caballero Sepúlveda, anti-speciesist anarchist comrade, imprisoned in the Direct Custody Section, San Joaquín Prison.

Your post is giving serious Anti-Speciesist Vibes, Take my Like. Quick Rundown: Speiesism is the belief that humans are superior to other creatures, this is seen in our industrial mass killing of non-human creatures, our destruction of important habitat and even our language, which places ones humanity as their value, with those who are deemed as less than human being victims of oppression, colonialism and genocide.
Anti-Speciesism is opposition to Human Supremecy. Anti-speciesists believe that humans are just one species of animal which is not morally better or worse than any other species, and as such we should respect other species. Anti-Speciesism correlates with certain communities such as Other kin, 2 spirit, Therians and Furrys who may identify as a non-human or partially-human being.
The amount of people that are completely uneducated about bugs- wasps, flies, and roaches especially- disturbs me. The amount of people claiming these animals have no purpose is just.. terrifying. And people calling for their extinction..
Even if they didn't serve any purpose to humans, that doesn't mean they have no right to live. Humans may have risen to the top of the food chain (for the most part), but does that really give humans the right to decide what deserves to live and what does not?
I do not think so.

I'm glad they didn't kill the behemoth (unlike Harrow and Sarai, who killed the titan), but the show stays speciesist. The behemoth is a "monster", because they (not "it" - they are a sentient being, not an object) cause a problem to the elves, so they decide it's okay to kill them. But as soon as Rayla realised they were once a pet, their life suddenly has worth. They're not angry, but grieving - so anger criminalises you? The behemoth wasn't even attacking the stupid elves - who could have just moved elsewhere (not the behemoth's fault you're a bunch of cultists who live with blindfolds). But no, let's just make a prophecy about chosen twos who will solve our problem for us by killing an evil beast. Oh sure, but afterwards we praise you for your empathy. Yay, double standarts! Man, elves really are just as self-righteous and entitled as humans.

seetttthing scalding hot take but honestly i feel no sympathy or theoretical sadness about altea being blown to bits. the few alteans we DO know are all assholes. clearly the universe isn't missing much. in fact, if you look at the only canon universe that DOES still have altea--- they go on to be just as bad as the galran empire if not even worse.
so yeah. maybe zarkon did the universe a small favor before he went truly off the deep end.
edit; just found out alteans destroyed Diabaazal long before zarkon destroyed altea. nothing ANYONE says can convince me alteans are anything *but* the real villain of the show. they got what they deserved.
#calling coran an asshole only bc he's... well. kind of an asshole.#and honestly speciesist.#the first episode always makes me seeth mad over that one line 'look at your synapses firing away in their primitive brain cage!' bc#apparently only alteans can make observations and only alteans have 'evolved' brains#what pidge said wasnt even that ground breeaking of an observation. anyone who wasnt actually blind would be able to see the lions together#that one line was the perfect glimpse into how alteans ACTUALLY behaved and how they ACTUALLY viewed all the planets they colonized.#bc i do not believe for a second that they were actually a 'diplomatic race'.#that's just sparkly language for space colonizers.#and all the times he rambles on about altea while the paladins are stressed. he doesn't even consider their feelings or notice.#their constant dismissal and even insulting of the humans' biological needs and social behaviors. aint no fucking way a diplomatic species#that has traveled the universe and seen and allied with billions of species would behave like that. and it isn't just allura. it's coran to#they constantly compare everything the humans do to what the alteans COULD do. again; first episode allura gets mad at these teenage kids#for not being able to fiht a gladiator 'fit for an altean child'. she gets mad at them for laughing and bonding (the ENOUGH! scene at dinne#allura is self explanatory.#honerva is self explanatory (she was a major asshole long before she became haggar)#lotor is self explanatory#i havent watched past se 6 bc i refuse to but the small bit i have seen from romelle? also an asshole.#and again. alllllll of the comet au alteans.#even alfor is kind of douchey at times. i mean clearly he raised his daughter to do nothing other than kiss his ass.#vld#anti allura

Now, let's talk about Drakepad. Can we talk about Drakepad, please? I've been dying to talk about Drakepad all year, OK! Sometimes I can't help but wonder if Drake and Launchpad were suppost to become a couple in the Ducktales reboot.
Like, you got that leaked concept art from the Darkwing spinoff (I guess it's okey to post this? It's long been dead if Disney even considered picking it up at all.) where Launchpad clearly has his hand on Drake's shoulder, but it looks like Drake's got his hand on LP's back. And I say Launchpad and not Gosalyn because if it was on/ around Gos we'd likely see his hand on her head or her shoulder which it very clearly is not.
Tumblr media
This pitch likely predates TDKR and if I were to guess when it was pitched it'd of likely been sometime in 2018? Possibly even earlier judging by Drake's design as it's still pretty early. (Plus LP's bio in the pitch bible having big (and literal) "let's pick out curtains" energy.)
And then you got this excerpt from the bonus book of the deluxe edition of the Ducktales artbook where it talks about those romantic secret side adventures Launchpad has that we never got to see, and then mentions him meeting Drake as one of these aforementioned side adventures.
Tumblr media
And then you got this Gay-ass moment from TDKR.
And the scene of them holding hands with Drake making goo-goo eyes that was intended by the storyboarder to be romantic.
Tumblr media
And LP returning the favor in the finale.
Tumblr media
The symbolism of the "go to them" scene, as well as how he puts his hand over his heart because of Drake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side note: He did this in the original show too.
Tumblr media
Not to mention Launchpad's canonically Bi (though they never got to explore this in the show itself).
But even if they were, there's like no way Disney would of allowed it considering how pissed they were about Penumbra being a Lesbian (forcing them to censor it in a way that makes it seem like she's just racist (Speciesist? Planetist?)). And considering how Disney's been trying to reboot Darkwing Duck there problobly would of been the thought "Well if we make them Queer in this then we'd have no choice but to make them Queer in every adaption after that" and Disney has been notoriously anti-Queer when it comes to media (That we even got The Owl House feels like a miracle in and of itself.) and now with actual fucking anti-Queer terrorism on the rise in America especially, and Project 2025 on the horizon, the higher ups are cowards at best, that is if they don't agree with the terrorists themselves (okey I'm getting on a bit of a tangent here, sorry!)
IDK did I miss something? It's like almost 4AM and I can't sleep (if that wasn't obvious).
Anyways when I said that this is what it feels like to ship Drakepad I was not exaggerating or joking.

The Weasleys attitude towards Muggles is really interesting when you look at it. They don't hate them, but there have an attitude about them. First thing that jumps to mind is Molly's introduction at the train station. She complains that the train station is "packed with Muggles". Not just people, she specifies muggles.
The Weasleys accept Muggle-borns and believe that, as magical people, they should have the same rights as other wizards—but they don’t really consider Muggles as a whole. They don’t see them as equals, or even really as people; they’re just Muggles. Let’s not forget how Molly Weasley said that they didn’t have much money, but at least they were wizards. Excuse me? That’s just a polite way of saying she’d rather starve than be a Muggle, and it’s absolutely a form of discrimination.
Arthur Weasley doesn’t come across as a Muggle expert—he seems more like an old-school, speciesist zoologist who views Muggles as lab rats to experiment on. He goes on and on about how fascinated he is by their culture, but he actually has no clue what they’re like. He’s basically that stereotypical bourgeois “progressive” who claims to be anti-racist but then makes wildly inappropriate comments, touches Black people’s hair without permission, or thinks Africa is a country. It’s the same cringeworthy, problematic privileged liberal energy.
At the end of the day, they have zero genuine interest in Muggles because they don’t see them as equals or even as truly worthy. At least Lucius Malfoy is upfront about what he thinks. Honestly, I’d rather deal with a straightforward conservative than a failed wannabe progressive who parades around as a social justice warrior while holding the most questionable beliefs.
(Not me desperately wanting to be super self-indulgent and make Molly Weasley go head-to-head with a Muggle who calls her everything but pretty lol)

Four new Warzone Distro zines.
1. The Anarcho-Primitivist case for Straight Edge: Against His-Story, Against Alcoholocaust!
“The foundations of colonial genocide bear the stench of a long and protracted alcohol induced nightmare — nearly every indigenous culture the Europeans encountered was destroyed by European alcohol and disease. The spreading of firewater among indigenous populations of North America went hand-in-hand with the distribution of lethal smallpox-infested blankets. Many of these cultures, without the experience of thousands of years of civilized alcoholism to draw upon, were even more subject than the Europeans to the ravages of “the civilized brew.” Between alcohol, disease, commerce, and guns, most of them were quickly and utterly destroyed. This process was not unique to North America — it was repeated throughout the world in every European colonial endeavor. While the drug of choice varied (sometimes it was opium, for example, as in the “Opium Wars” Great Britain waged to control China), alcohol was judged in many countries to be the most socially-acceptable tool of pacification.”
2. More Than Just a Diet: A Conversation Between Warzone Distro & the Susaron 4
“…precisely what strongly motivated our actions as a group, was the dissemination of that message, somewhat diluted by time: The war against existence from an anarcho-nihilist perspective, fervently anti-speciesist and straight edge. Which to our taste fulfilled its purpose, since these discussions happened again as a result of the action and our subsequent arrest. And consequently; constant elaboration of propaganda material referring to our ideological thinking. Which gives us the desire to refloat within future generations these incendiary ideas, which have no intention of making peace or negotiation with the enemy. Be it the animal exploitation industry or any other authority that may seek to impose itself on us…
…Regarding the straight edge concept; we have always seen as essential the care of our body as a temple and as a channel of direct confrontation. And likewise refusing the brutal control exercised by the state and its tentacles through drugs. Ruining entire generations of rebels because of it. And it does not fit in our concept of opposition to all exploitation and apparatus of domination, that by our own complacency and mental weakness we are subjugated through substances made to appease the discontent and collapse. And as anarchic-nihilists we understand our body and mind as the only thing we own and our main weapon.
…many generations of young insurrectionists have been lost in the mental and physical deterioration generated by the web of drugs and their slow and camouflaged intrusion into the lives of those who begin to consume them, especially individuals prone to depression. This dramatically undermines the power of resistance movements that require people committed and prepared for the challenges involved in fighting such a giant and finely tuned machine as the reigning structure of domination.”
3. Burn Down The Animal Pharm By Lint Lobotomy

forever wishing people on this damn webbed site would read beasts of burden, a book on the intersection of ableism& speciesism, instead of criticising veganism. tell me u don't know what the core principles of anti-speciesism are without telling me....
i encountered the same issue in vegan activist spaces tbh & thats why i describe myself now as anti-speciesist. it's nuts to me that people will criticise hierarchy up and down and then fail to apply it to ALL creatures. the one fallacy we've really GOT to STOP falling for as human beings is that we are in any way better or more important than another being!!!
if you cannot sacrifice personal pleasure and ease to take a stand against injustice... well. what does that say about you?

What are some anarchist critiques of humanism?
alc
Humanism facilitates ecological collapse. Belief in the right of human supremacy over all other species (whether explicitly for domination or under the guise of stewardship) has brought us to the brink of an ecological collapse that will lead to a world of polluted wastelands and destroy most species on Earth, including the human species. Divorc-ing ourselves from values of aliveness, wildness, and regeneration has achieved disastrous consequences for the majority of the human species as well as all other species on Earth and all known habitats.
Humanism furthers alienation. Belief in human separation from “nature” has forced humanism us into a roles that foster neuroses and madness; an alienated existence inflicts increasing psychological and spiritual harm to we who live and more and more in a sterile, deadened, mechanical, symbolic world of control.
Humanism believes in speciesist Dominion. The social construct of property arises from a humanist perspective that treats other species and landbases only as utilitarian to certain humans rather than possessing even the most rudimentary levels of intrinsic worth (spirituality), self-ownership (philosophy), consideration for ecological contribution (functionalism), or belief that they have no superior or subordinate value (nihilism/egoism).
Humanism rationalizes abuse. To do this humanists arbitrarily elevate some measure (eg intellect, rationality, tool use) or content (eg soul, nervous system) to justify authoritarian behavior toward anyone classified as external. Such criteria change to rationalize the desire for authoritarian behavior as desired. Humanism makes excuses and rationalizations for human behaviors toward other species (slavery, extermination) that humanists would never concede to other entities (e.g. aliens or ma-chines) with greater of even the agreed-upon measures or contents. It’s an identity defense system, not a moral truth.
Humanism speaks the Myth of Progress. Humanists almost always believe in the Myth of Progress, the belief that the state of humanity is always positively improving socially or technologically in a straight, forward, unidirectional line toward utopia, or at least claim this pattern has occured so far with the development of the Neolithic Revolution. Humanists believe that no other species does this, that humans are the subject and consciousness of the cosmos, and therefore everyone and everything else is an resource to exploit.
Humanism acts as the modern religious authority. Humanism replaces God at the throne of authority with a particular and unquestioned image of the human species (the rational, productive man), and creates a new clerical class of scientists, technicians, bureaucrats, and others that mediate and divvy out Progress.
Humanism has racist, colonialist mythology and history. Humanism has constructed myths of an external environment and demonizes a concept of nature that it perceives as hostile to human aims. Humanism therefore has easily accommodated racism, as it is anti-nature and therefore to some extent anti-any-ethnicity-that-resembles-nature, such as savages, witches, barbarians, cavemen, Indians, Negroes, and supported those who embody a struggle against nature, such as pilgrims, pioneers, mountain men, Victorian-era masculine hetero males, Western scientists, who just happened to also be the colonizers.
Humanism hates wildness. Humanists usually love the features of urban society that biotically cleanse landscapes to replace them with monuments to the greatness of Man and and testaments to the glory of Industry, artifacts of repression.
Humanism hates aliveness. Humanists usually posses an intense attachment to mass society and technophilia and drawdown of non-renewables, and false notions that “Everything is natural” or “That which is natural is subordinate”, and “Technology is neutral”. On a spectrum of (a) all life-forms and landbases have value, to (b) only humans and their settlements and artifacts and symbols have value, to (c) only industrial technology has value, humanists are a lot closer to (c) than they’d like to admit, and have justified or rationalized the eradication or subjugation of “backward” peoples and entire species or habitats for increasing technical complexity (see: Marxists, transhumanists). For the most part, humanists today can more easily come to terms with having no more traditional indigenous people on Earth, no more migratory songbirds on Earth, no more old growth forests on Earth, than having no more com-puters on Earth.
Humanism inherits ignorance & arrogance. Humanist rhetoricians therefore often just cloak colonialism and dominion, taking them for granted or ap-plauding them without giving room to radical critiques of their origins, histories, and trajectories, and in fact suppressing dissidents historically.
Humanism acts as another concept of sacrifice for control.
Stirner: How is it with mankind, whose cause we are to make our own? Is its cause that of another, and does mankind serve a higher cause? No, mankind looks only at itself, mankind will promote the interests of mankind only, mankind is its own cause. That it may develop, it causes nations and individuals to wear themselves out in its service, and, when they have accomplished what mankind needs, it throws them on the dung-heap of history in gratitude.
Humanism has a cold heart. Some anarchists have trouble confining our humanism position to slavery and extermination to just 1 in 8,700,000 species, during a mass extinction no less.

Do I have to be an activist to be a good vegan?
A good vegan is just someone who is avoiding animal exploitation as far as is possible and practicable. Keep in mind that veganism is a moral imperative; it’s the bare minimum we can do for animals. To avoid actively contributing and funding their exploitation and mass slaughter is the absolute least we can do.
As with any systematic exploitation and destruction of any group, just not taking part in it is not enough. When someone opposes a system or a regime we usually expect more from them than just not directly supporting that system, we expect them to firstly oppose it in word and in deed. There is nothing unique about animal exploitation in that respect.
The way in which animals are unique as victims of oppression though, is the fact that they can’t give us their testimonies, can’t speak out in defence of their own rights. So if animals to are to be liberated they need us to be their advocates. We cannot just uplift their voices, we have to lift up our own. Animals rely on us as vegans to speak out in their defence.
All that said, you can only do what you’re able to. I’m not expecting everyone to be running blogs, writing books, be out on the street or engaged in direct liberation. What I think is more than reasonable to expect though, is for people to be advocates for animals in their own little spheres. That means opposing animal exploitation as it crosses your path, it means advocating veganism, sharing resources, spreading awareness, being a positive role model.
More fundamentally, it means offering up what is quite possibly the only anti-speciesist perspective that many of your friends and family will have ever heard. In many instances, you will be the only person who is in a position to actually challenge the speciesism of the communities you part of, whether that is at work, school or home. This doesn’t mean calling people out every time they buy a burger, that isn’t usually constructive, but you should be willing to speak up and challenge prejudice where you feel you doing so may be effective.
Not everyone can be an animal rights activist, but we can all engage in advocacy in our daily lives, however we are best placed to do that. I know it’s an awkward thing and I know it’s anxiety inducing, but the stakes are far too high, and there are for too few of us for any of us to remain silent. If we don’t speak out for animals, who will?
