Star Trek: Prodigy is a more imaginative and better-written sequel series in my opinion than Star Trek: Picard.

Just FYI if I ever reblog ai art please feel free to let me know via message or ask! I really don’t want to support ai art and I’m not always the best at spotting it. I want to support artists who do their own work!!

I’m not a big fan of discourse and confrontation, so oftentimes if there’s discourse in my fandoms I’ll just keep scrolling. I’m a big fan of leaving the things that don’t affect you in real life alone, even if you might disagree with what’s being said. And honestly I don’t think that all disagreements in fandom are bad, it can lead to some really interesting analyses of media that you might not have noticed without having to go back to the source to defend your points. But I feel like it needs to be said that the amount of disrespect for individuals has increased significantly in fandom. Part of it is the modern relationship to internet access and usage but a lot of you people are becoming way too comfortable being casually cruel to others within your own and separate spaces. I think we need to remember that fandom at its core is about community and connecting with others over a shared interest. You don’t have to agree with everything that is said especially if there are some figureheads in your spaces that are more outspoken but you can voice differing opinions without trivializing others, since most people use their own personal experiences to analyze media.
Like I know that the “go touch some grass” sentiment has kinda lost its impact, but I’m being so for real right now that some of you people need to take a break and go spend some time away from the internet and gain some perspective.

The STAR TREK fandom are some of the most sexist and hypocritical pop culture fans I have ever encountered. They love pointing out the flaws for "STAR TREK VOYAGER" and "STAR TREK DISCOVERY", even to the point of being incredibly petty. Yet, at the same time, they have this tendency to turn a blind eye to the flaws of the other TREK shows. I would have included that "STAR TREK ENTERPRISE" was also heavily criticized. But now, these same fans are claiming that it was so much better than "VOYAGER" and "DISCOVERY".
I realize art and entertainment are subjective, but this is really ridiculous. I'm at the point where I find nothing but contempt toward the STAR TREK franchise.

My brain is so fandom coded (and by that I mean pickled/fried/rotten/destroyed). I got an email from my boss today with the subject line: "OTP." I was like, "FINALLY! I'm gonna figure out exactly who's supposed to be smooching at this engineering firm!". Unfortunately it meant One Time Password for some confidential project documents he had sent me and I am just chronically online.

Also just for the record, like, nine times out of ten, fandom ageism is just misogyny with extra steps

Like how you called linda park pretty. usually many women of color are never recognised for their great beauty in comparison to their white counterparts. she is korean, sadly now with nu trek, the show is obsessed with making women of color very ugly and masculine. look at the new uhura from strange new worlds, she is made to look like a man and is very unattractive. a far cry from the iconic nichelle nichols from TOS, Who became a ground breaking female character. so just want to say from a star trek fan thank you for praising the beauty of women of colour.

I think instead of creating La'an Noonien Singh, whose character messes up the TOS canon, the SNW writers should have expanded more on the characters of Phillip Boyce, Janice Rand, and J.M. Colt.

The thing is, everything I've read about the plot of Star Trek Discovery makes it seem absolutely Batshit and crazy and barely coherent. Granted, a few skims of season summaries doesn't say much, so grain of salt.
But in most spaces that aren't like, tumblr, I find myself assuming - rightly or wrongly - any given dislike of Discovery is from the sorts of people bitching about 'woke' star trek or w/e.

how do you think kirk and spock would react if they knew they single-handedly invented an entire subculture (modern fandom) by virtue of being so perfect for each other?
personally i think kirk would be kind of baffled but, ultimately, pretty proud of himself. spock would probably just be bemused.
somewhere in the background, mccoy would roll his eyes and quip something about the two of them only being perfect for each other because they're both stubborn idiots.

was briefly sucked into drama in my old, toxic af fandom, and there's nothing like dealing with that chaotic bullshit that makes me appreciate the ofmd fandom more. the idea that the showrunners of a television show actually care about the audience and their opinions was a foreign concept to me before now. like, ik there's dumb discourse (comes with the territory of being in a fandom, unfortunately), and the cancellation was a gut punch, but the overwhelming kindness, acceptance, and diversity within the ofmd space, both from the audience and the ppl involved in making the show, is something to not ever take for granted, cuz hoo boy, are there a lot of shitty-ass fandoms out there, bro
