I just read another good Atlantic article, "Kamala Harris and the Rise of Neobitherism," by Adam Serwer. I got it via a gift link on Bluesky, so the paywall hell described by the last Atlantic article I linked would be in effect for any direct link, but you should be able to find it.
Anyway, an excerpt [CW for various racisms, slavery, rape]:

hey non-Jewish progressives currently sitting idle (or worse, celebrating) while Jews are banned from pride events (unless we hide our Jewishness, which, fuck no), while Jewish homes and businesses and places of gathering are vandalized and destroyed, while Jews are harassed and attacked and raped and abused in the streets of cities we once thought safe...
read a book.
remember that you stood in the camps with us.
remember that your willingness to let Jews be othered will not save you when they come for you.
and trust me, they will. what starts with Jews never ends with Jews.
today, me, tomorrow, you.

That can't have been cleared with MJF. And if it wasn't cleared with MJF, there's no way it was cleared with anybody else.
There need to be major consequences for doing something that abhorrent. It wasn't funny. It wasn't clever. It was cheap, anti-Semitic, disgusting heat.

one day i will properly compare dee made a smut film and ptsdee and the differences in the way they handle their very similar subject material but i have shit to do early tomorrow morning so. for now.
do you ever think about how RCG-written episodes, no matter how bad (both character morality-wise and writing-wise) they get, will always have a degree of humanity to them. like. 11x04 has dee doing something that is So incredibly wrong and horrible to dennis. but the reactions to it don't match its intensity. 12x07 again has dee doing something absolutely fucking deranged, and the gang tells her how fucked up it was. there's actually an acknowledgement both from her and from the others that what she did was awful, but her motivation, charlie, dennis, frank and mac's motivations throughout the episode make sense. dee's insecurity is the root of it, she can't handle being someone's "rock bottom", and she needs to prove that it can get worse. 11x04 dee just decides she's going to be a bastard and tell everyone that dennis was raped at 14. we don't know why she does this, and she really has no reason to, other than to be an asshole.

and there sinfest goes with the overt anti-semitism.
Tumblr media
Were I more favorably inclined towards Tats I'd argue you could read this as an anti-Ye comic portraying him as delusional. But, of course, there's been a low-key current of antisemitism in Sinfest forever so I'm not so inclined.

Certainly his Twitter followers are taking it as a pro-Ye piece.

ooooh this is hard since i seen a consistent amount of great takes on tumblr compared to what it is on twitter!! but i guess the worst i seen would have to be in this specific fandom (south park) where someone wrote an entire fucking essay when they consistently provided evidence of blatant misogyny / anti semitism in a fanon portrayal of a character (said character is a jewish man, very masculine in canon yet is somehow feminized a lot in m/m ships and this is a problem because theres a long history of jewish men being feminized due to the common stereotype that jewish men are not "real men" because of their ethnoreligion) — this is a valid problem right? well in those same fucking essays where they provided concrete evidence as to why they shouldn't take good jewish rep away just to turn them into out of character caricatures to serve the white man in the fucking relationship — they used it to prove that ITS OKAY to do that and i still cant fathom it like TWO POSTS OF LONG META ESSAYS AND THEY STILL MISS THE POINT ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY USED THE CANONICALLY RACIST CHARACTER THAT HAS A HISTORY OF PICKING ON THAT SAID CHARACTER FOR THEM BEING JEWISH MULTIPLE TIMES TO PROBE THEIR ARGUMENT THAT THIS IS OKAY LIKE HOW DO YOU MISS THIS SO BADLY!?!!!

TW: anti-Semitism
I'm practically addicted to Twitter at this point, and the amount of anti-Semitic takes I see, both from the right and the left, leaves me pretty annoyed. Anti-Semitism is so dumb and insane. I know that no prejudice ever came from reason, but the prejudices surrounding Jewish people are particularly illogical, self-contradictory, and insane.
First, as an Latino of color, I honestly can't tell white people and Jewish people apart, specially if they aren't religious. Half of the Jews in the world today identity as Ashkenazi, descending from Jews who lived in Central or Eastern Europe.
I hear that Europeans have an intense list of physical stereotypes to shame Jewish People, like hair type, sound of the last name and nose shape, and it's so insane, because even with those references I still can't tell them apart. And what type of reasonable person ever went like: "I can see your heritage by the sound of your last name and the shape of your nose."
Second, it's weird that the money-grabbing stereotype still persists even in a mostly Capitalist society. You would think that in a society all about money and hoarding money, the stereotype would force White people to see Jews in a better light, but nope. "When I am greedy, I'm just an entrepreneur, when I falsely accuse all your people of being greedy, you are all evil."
The most disappointing part is seeing Leftists parroting Right-wing talk at times. I kid you not, I already saw so many posts about how Jewish people are the responsible for colonialism and slavery. Some try even to say that Capitalism is all their fault.
But the worst, and the most tragically funny, is the stereotype about Jewish people controlling the world.
The last big genocide attempt wasn't even a century ago. Even before that, all over Europe, for centuries, Christians did everything in their power to restrict their rights, and yes, try to exterminate them and their culture.
In Media, when we talk about the Inquisition, we always focus on the "witches" and the scientists, but in many parts, the Inquisition went straight after the Jews.
Mel Brooks depicts this perfectly, but of course, satirically.
youtube
Back to my point, heck, even in Jewish sacred texts, there are many stories about Kings and empires trying to wipe them all out. The Pharaoh's justification in the Exodus for killing the Hebrew babies is eerily similar to the thought process of the Nazis in the 20th Century.
Every year, when there's a big Jewish holiday, I always found them posting something like this.
Tumblr media
Does this honestly sound like something that comes from the people that secretly control all money and power in the world?

the churches that raised me were wrong about a fuck ton of things but i guess i have to admit that they were right about how much compassion hurts sometimes.
unlearning hatred is hard. and TO BE CLEAR, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it, or that you should be allowed to be anti-semitic or islamophobic or transphobic or homophobic or sexist etc. -- it just means that it can take a lot.
(also to be clear, i'm not asking anyone wronged by toxic christianity to forgive it or the people who practice(d) it.)
because christianity wasn't wrong about everything, you know? i can't hate everything it ever taught me. because that would make me hate all compassion (because even though they didn't practice much compassion, they did preach it). and there are lines you need to draw, morals you have to figure out for yourself.
you have to detangle yourself from the christian idea of pro-israel policy (the kind that wants the apocalypse to happen), but educate yourself so you don't become anti-semitic. you have to decondition your knee-jerk islamophobia, without becoming supportive of misogynistic policy. you have to condemn the organized religious structures that fucked you up, while making sure you don't mistake all forms of religion for abuse.
and i think it's hard to let go of the evangelical urge to "save everyone for their own good". it's hard to let go of the idea that you know best, because it was conditioned into you that that's what compassion is. it's hard to let go of christianity, but it's even harder to dismantle all the traces of cultural christianity that linger.
i don't have any answers. i don't have any shortcuts to make it easier. so. i guess i'm just making this post to say you're not alone if you're struggling to be a better person. you're not alone if sometimes it feels too hard. you're not alone even if it feels like your mind and body and soul aren't really on your side anymore.
idk how to end this, because it's not like i can promise that it gets easier or that it will feel worth it.
but. you're not alone. and you can do this.

Alice Walker
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alice Walker is a novelist best known for her work the Color Purple. As a child, she was blinded by a BB gun in one eye, and after that incident she began to write in earnest. Her writing primarily centers around African American issues, and she is well known for her work within black feminist circles.
Alice walker coined the term womanist, which she uses to describe black feminists, saying that it gives black women a word of their own to use when discussing the intersection between their race and gender. She has spoken out in defense of Julian Assange, supported boycotts against Israel, and spoken out against apartheid.
She has also been vocal in her position against transgender people, and has explicitly supported J.K. Rowling online. In an essay she wrote, she states that the use of the word "guy" for both men and women confuses children and that the "miracle" of the human body should not be tampered with. She has also been very antisemitic, supporting conspiracy theories against Jewish people, and the anti-defamation league has condemned her as "infected with antisemitism." She has also been called Antisemitic by Jewish friends and her own writing backs up this claim. She has dismissed these criticisms as an attempt to shut down her website.
To end on a queer note, she had relationships with both men and women. It is a bit of a shame that despite the impact she had on feminism and african-american literature, she decided that her bigotry was more important than her work, and therefore it saturated her online legacy so completely that it was easier to find antisemitic quotes from her than it was for me to find quotes about her own writing.

Finally told my intellectual friend about Con*Hay*th, and our group just kind of sat there like, "That...is so...racist??????"
It's terrible but interesting how people love shipping the oppressed with the oppressor, especially when it's not their own culture and they don't have to see the oppressed as actual humans. That tapered into a conversation about how some of the earliest Chinese folktales about women who birthed animals were just metaphors for other ethnic groups. And of course, the history of how the way Black and Chinese people were treated in the US was justified by the racist notion that we can't feel pain.
The worst part is that the people who ship them don't care. They'll justify it a thousandfold before they see Ratohnhaké:ton, and Kanien'kéha:ka, as human.
Also talked about how Ube Softee, but the gaming industry at large too, caters to white males. And it sucks.
We also talked about calling out fandom racism when you're not part of that group. In danmei, a lot of us are Chinese, so if there's something off, we're like, Not in MY house. A lot of our "wank" is actually just racist gaslighting by disrespectful fans. When there were cases of anti-Semitism or racism against Indigenous people, our fandom is so fucking big that when we called it out, we were also able to follow the lead of people from those backgrounds.
In AC3...well, I have yet to meet a Haudenosaunee fan. So I still call things out, but I'm also hesitant just because...well, I've been on the end of white virtue signaling that's supposedly been on behalf of Asians. It's not fun. I don't want to make the same mistake.
(Con*Hay*th is definitely racist though, just to be clear. It's the smaller things like Ratohnhaké:ton's outfit in the DLC that get me -- yo, is the design racist? I can't tell. The DLC as a whole, with its actor choice, indigenous mysticism, and sudden switch to English, definitely is, though.)
So yeah, it's been a lot to think about.
