If I have one enemy in Julie and the Phantoms, it's Nick.

That one scene in episode 5 felt like a personal attack. It's stated in episode 1 that Julie barely, if ever, talked to Nick. SO TELL ME WHY THIS BOY IS ALL UP IN HER BUSINESS BACKSTAGE BEING NOSY AF TOWARDS A GIRL HE BARELY KNOWS (and one his girlfriend has potentially unresolved beef with, at that).

Nick hyping up that performance that wasn't going to happen made the situation MORE embarrassing for Julie, in my opinion. Like, the poor girl was already gonna be embarrassed; why add Nick into a scene that already makes me feel second-hand embarrassed for Julie and add pure, unfiltered rage to it.

I physically can't watch that episode. I can quote the other episodes line for line, but episode 5? I've watched it maybe like 3 times because I skip it every time I rewatch JATP, which is at least twice a month.

I also have a grudge against him (mostly Netflix, but also him) because SPOILER ALERT!!!! He's the last face we see before the show is canceled. Is it technically Caleb? Yeah. But if he hadn't shown up to Julie's house, he wouldn't have gotten possessed, and I would have gotten a half-way satisfying ending. We did NOT need that cliffhanger. So everytime I see his face (not the actor, just Nick's face, it's weird) I get reminded that the show was canceled, and my day gets ruined.

Anyway, if Nick has no haters, then I'm dead.

Edit: just realized that if you take Nick out of the story the only thing that changes is Perfect Harmony and the cliffhanger, but you can still have PH if you tweak the performance to be with some random and with the cliffhanger we could have gotten a banger with Caleb possessing Carrie or Trevor.

gunnie and i were rewatching jatp and she pointed out to me how creation is a regular theme in the show. like.

julie and the band obviously create their own music, nick plays the guitar, and flynn plays the trumpet. they're all considered to be on the good team and they make their own music

carrie isn't really an antagonist, gunnie called her an anti-hero since she's just rude to julie, and she doesn't go out of her way to harm them. she doesn't play an instrument but she still creates her own music.

caleb doesn't make any music. sure, he sings, but he has other people playing the music, and as it's later revealed in the series, they don't have a choice. he is the main antagonist, and he doesn't create, just keeps others from creating

Ranking my family members based on their JATP opinions, a totally objective and useful list:

(cw for mild homophobia through the lens of me, a gay person, making light of it)

6. Mom: 2/10. Most of her takes are actually fine and sometimes interesting, but she dislikes Willie and Nick so I refuse to bump this any higher

5. Aunt: 6/10. She actually didn’t give me that many clear opinions other than that the show is good (correct) but points docked for a somewhat tense viewing experience because I couldn’t remember precisely how homophobic this aunt is and she set a weird tone by asking “why are the holding hands?” of Alex and Luke in that one scene in Bright. She ended up being chill about Willex though, and she gets points for complaining about the “I can’t let you have leftovers every night” line the same way I do every time (you can’t have leftovers every night! There has to be something to be leftover!!)

4. Sister’s roommate: 6.5/10. Not a family member. idc. Has only seen episode 4 because she happened to be in the room while my sister and I were watching it. Said it reminds her of HSM and that Willex are cute.

3. Younger sister: 8/10. Loves the show and characters, good opinions all around, major Alex stan, has a surprisingly solid and coherent theory about Caleb being the anti-christ. “Everyone in this show has really good eyebrows and that’s why they’re all so attractive.” Points docked for thinking Nick is “fine” and not an actual ray of sunshine.

2. Older sister: 9/10. Hasn’t finished the show yet (completely understandable she’s in the middle of practicum for her teaching degree) but everything she’s said so far has been great. Keeps pointing out cool music stuff I know nothing about. Labelled Luke as obnoxious (affectionate) and Julie as eldest daughter (honorific). 

1. Dad: 10/10. Probably knew all the words to Unsaid Emily within about a day, has texted me from work (more than once) talking about how great the soundtrack is. Highlights from watching with him include: “Luke is so 90s” “I like that it’s the bass player who’s a little odd” “this is such a good show” (directly after hearing Unsaid Emily for the first time).

Out of the many things they’ve gotten right so far. I’m thankful that Nick isn’t called Chad. If he was then I’d have no choice except to hate him on principle and not give a shit Caleb possessed him. Like I’ve hated Danforth and Charming. They’re just something so overtly annoying about the latter two. Tendency toward manipulation and general idiocy aside. It’s not an actor thing. I liked Corbin in jump in and Hannah Montana. But when it comes to Danforth I wa ba make him watch as I put his coveted basketball through a wood chipper. As for Charming. I’ll never forgive him for how he treated Evie. No amount of sycophantic behaviour towards pastel bitch will change my mind. I hate both Danforth and Charming. So I’m very happy with the fact Nick isn’t called “chad”. It’s just such a refreshing change of pace.

It’s just not my favourite theory

I know most of the fandom want Nick to be Ryan and ch*d’s son. But I can’t see it. It’s a timeline issue. As well as a personal preference issue. The first hsm was set in 2006 when the students were 16. Assuming the Los Feliz kids (I thing that’s the schools name) are all 16 in season one. That puts their birthdate at 2004. So timeline wise it doesn’t make sense to me that either of them would adopt a kid so soon out of high school let alone from a whole other state. New Mexico vs California people. And I’m not sure many legal agencies would let people adopt so young. The logic just doesn’t add up for me. Then there’s the personal preference issue which people are probably gonna hate me for but I don’t care

I hate him. I do. I legitimately hate Chad Danforth. He’s a terrible friend to Troy. He’s manipulative. And he’s just a jerk in general. I hate chyan as well. Ryan deserves better (coughtroycough). So I, personally, don’t like the Danforth Evans fan theory. It just doesn’t do anything for me. Honestly. I want Nick to be Reggie’s nephew via Idina Menzel and Josh Dallas really. Just think of the angst potential. Reggie’s nephew being possessed by the psycho who almost rekilled him. It’d be amazing. If people really want him to be related to a hsm character. He could be a Bolton cousin. That could work right?

That’s my opinion on this particular theory. I respect those that have the theory. But if it turns canon. I probably won’t be happy. That’s what my headcanons are for after all. I understand that many people won’t like this post. But I had to get this out of my head
