Just a reminder that Maddie is not some innocent character who is only hated because she’s a victim of bad writing [a spice on the rack of CaitVi drama].

She’s still a classist enforcer and she was on the strike team that gassed The Lanes. Maddie is, in fact, a participant in the oppression of Zaun.

And I’m not saying you can’t like her [that would be silly], I’ve just noticed that people tend to dismiss her actions in favor of criticizing the other writing choices made with her character.

She is wasted potential galore. 😭

It’s easy to forget, isn’t it? Since the fucking gassing scene was a music sequence with flashy colors and a different animation style. Season 2 really couldn’t resist making important scenes montages and leaving them at that.

so anyways, where r all my maddie likers at?

i was talking to my butch today and i realized something. the love triangle in arcane should have been the opposite. vi should have gotten with a zaunite love interest. and i can back my opinion up.

to me there’s something flawed with where the relationship starts that could have always gone sour but the series didn’t even attempt to work on it. it resides in the intersection of theme and character.

in first season the topside and undercity conflict was framed as the main antagonist, the systems, and how the characters work within those systems reveals their character. superficially, cait is the classic trope of the good cop, the one good cop who actually cares. meanwhile vi is the hardened anti hero who had to hide her caring nature to survive a cruel world. but in relation to the oppressive system around them caitlyn is an enforcer of the status quo and vi is the marginalized, with the status’ quo boots on her neck. their navigate this system and their roles in it ( specially cait’s) is in direct conflict with their goals and morals.

caitlyn’s role transforms in the second season, from trying her best under a broken system to second main perpetrator of state violence, personally responsible to critical harm to a community. there’s very little to no coming back from that. it would require accountability, remorse, it would require of cait tangible change. instead, cait still lives in piltover, in the heart of the privilege and still wielding the power of her name even if her chair in the council is not hers anymore. cait loses very little ( one eye, spoils of war that could have happened to anyone in the heat of the fight ) and still gets rewarded the happy ending, the girl she loves in the city she loves, as if it was no harm done.

the addition of maddie to me is like salt to a wound, the narrative takes vi for granted, as if she will always wait for cait, no matter what awful crime against the lower classes cait commits. vi almost loses cait but cait would never lose vi.

love triangles have to mean something, to chose a love interest is to choose a life path, a moral frame work, a destiny. cait makes her choice before maddie enters the game making maddie’s existence meaningless. the real influence over cait is ambessa and the mother wound.

vi deserves to have choices, options, some form of autonomy that’s not just waiting for cait. vi should be the one in a love triangle, perhaps some girl from the undercity with shared struggle, maybe a gentle thing, maybe someone who yearns for more. someone who shows her a different path. that mirrors cait’s arc during that season.

it would come to the creators what to do with the ending but it would simply put vi in a less undignified position of endlessly waiting for people to choose her and having herself the option to choose.

THATS WHAT IM SAYING.

The writers just wanted to write a way for Cait to have been a victim.“Oh see? Cait was the victim because Maddie was a spy that manipulated her” no. Maddie is the victim because she was basically taken advantage of and used by her superior.

The fact that in polls she’s voted as the most hated character even though Silco and Marcus are right there is absolutely insane and it shows the underlying misogyny in the fandom. But that’s a discussion for another day

The only reason they made Maddie a Noxian spy is because otherwise, she would've been a victim in this entire situation, and people would see how shitty Caitlyn's actions actually are.

Cait is still Maddie's superior. The power imbalance is very much there, not to mention the way she treats Maddie outside of their affair. Imagine if instead of being a 'traitor that weasled herself into Caitlyn's bed to gain her trust', Maddie was just an innocent young officer who was manipulated and used by her boss. It just makes Caitlyn look way worse, which she is, because she didn't know Maddie was a spy, so in her eyes, the difference in status didn't matter.

The writers needed somone else to be the scapegoat while Cailtyn did her thing and everyone was already against Maddie because she 'got in the way of Caitvi', which is not true by the way, Caitvi was always going to be cannon. Personally, I think it's ridiculous, but I've seen it happen time and time again in fandoms, so I'm honesty not surprised.

Hunter has a drug addiction. It all began three years ago, when he was in military school. His father, of course put harsh expectations on the oldest in the family, expecting him to meet and exceed them, physically, religiously and academically. At the time Hunter had so much on his plate he began taking caffeine tablets to increase his energy. Before long he moved on to harder substance, and performance enhancing drugs were add to help keep up with his physical demands. Since the move to Lima, he continuously tries to quite, which often leads to horrific outbursts of rage (and sometimes violence), due to the other mental illness he suffers with.

Hunter was recently diagnosed with bi-polar disorder after a series of rage-filled outbursts at his old school. While it’s something his family knows about, it has been kept quiet and left untreated as his father doesn’t believe in the treatment of mental illnesses, instead deciding that all Hunter really needs is ‘more discipline’. The drug use has help numb the symptoms a bit, but whenever Hunter tries to go off them, his bi-polar kicks into high gear and that results in very erratic behavior.

Headcanons:

Hunter takes on his role and responsibility as the oldest child very seriously. He often takes the brunt of his father’s controlling, harsh leadership in order to shield Elijah & Maddie from it. While their father isn’t outwardly abusive, his ridiculous expectations and harsh demeanor have affected Hunter in a negative way adding stress to his disorder and pressure to him that is beyond the realm of what he’s able to cope with.

Hunter is a skilled dancer and singer and enjoys his time in the Glee club, but has a hard time blending in with the group because he feels superior and believes his talents are underappreciated.

He is a new transfer to Mickinley after he was expelled from his military school for a rage-fueled outburst during a sporting event. He was then sent home to Lima and is just starting his time at the school where his brother and sister already attend.
