You do not have to stay up and wait. The end of the world is not coming. You do not have to act as a witness. Nothing bad will happen if you close your eyes. Go to sleep. The man called Jesus is dead. The terror of that night was over a long time ago. Humans hurt each other all the time. It doesn't mean anything. There is nothing you can do about it right now. It's late. The world will still be there in the morning.
Go to sleep.

anti-lent sex-ed sunday #1
this post is part of the 40 day s of anti-lent posting that i'm doing on my main @the-winds-indecision - feel free to follow along there as well!
okay my first suggestion is to get familiar with your downstairs anatomy.  lock yourself in the bathroom or your bedroom with a hand mirror and actually take a look.  to some of you this might sound silly, but the church filled me with such sexual shame that i didn’t actually take a proper look at my own anatomy until i was almost 18.  not groovy.  so grab a mirror and poke around.  learn what you look like from as many different angles as you can manage.  if you have sufficient internet privacy, consider googling “anatomical diagram of *insert genitalia here* and look for a trustworthy medical website in the general search results.  part of the way the church exerts control is by restricting knowledge, but once you have that knowledge, it can’t be taken away

Do you ever look at your calendar and see that February 22nd the day after Mardi Gras is marked as Ash Wednesday, I already did. Countless times to be honest.
Tumblr media
If you're eager for the start of Lent then good for you or if not then that is okay as well just make sure to take care of yourself.
Tumblr media
If you're in the religiously abused category and see Lent and the whole idea of fasting, giving alms, praying and giving something up for 40 days as a big trigger like I do then let me be the one to help (if that is okay with you)
If you're ex Catholic and no longer identify or associate yourself with Christianity like I am especially after making my faith renunciation loud and clear but are still stuck in a strict religious environment where the family is still stuck in a stage of denial that their child young or grown is no longer in the faith and attempting to reconvert and "bring back to the flock" unaware that their futile attempts will only push the child away instead genuinely accepting things as they are then you came to the right post.
This time of the year can be difficult for all of us and some of us don't have the capability to fast or abstain for 40 days since we need food and drinks to keep up our strength in the physical and mental sense especially in the physical side due to health conditions that make it impossible to do so and Christianity does not see that unfortunately and some don't even have the right to make the choice of not doing Lent at all.
Tumblr media
Very unfair if you ask me. So very unfair. I devised a list for Anti-lent to use and feel free to reblog and add your own to the list
Instead of giving something up why not indulge in it. It could be food, a new drink you wanna try but the church says "No way, you're practicing abstinence whether you like it or not!" screw that and do the opposite.
Pick up a new skill. It could be writing, reading that is not biblical scripture, trying a new cooking recipe in the kitchen(please be careful if you do so. No one likes coming home to a kitchen set on fire.)
Question Church teaching and the rules. This may seem like a very hard one and heavily discouraged in Catholicism. I've done a lot of questioning as a child and there were a lot of rules that never sat well with me at all. Blind faith and blind obedience is not a good look on anyone
On Fridays, instead of not eating meat or going to a fish fry, eat meat anyways you need the protein(unless you're vegetarian or a vegan there are other means of getting protien). Treat yourself to hamburger, steak, any meat will do. The same applies for Good Friday instead of one meal have your 3 square meals of the day.
Practice self-care. This one, is a super important one! If some priest in his sermon says to give self-care for lent don't listen and do the opposite instead. Cut your hair, go for a mani-pedi, try a new fragrance, take an extra long bath or shower, meditate, do what makes you happy this goes with the indulgence portion.
Instead of giving alms, use that tithing money on yourself or donate to a more worthy cause because the church does not deserve even a single cent from either of us no matter how much they try to guilt you into dropping your hard earned money in the offering basket. If you have a paycheck splurge some but save a portion for whenever that urge to splurge comes up leave some as a "Don't touch until next payday or future adventure travel fund".
Set boundaries. If folks ask why you aren't giving anything up for Lent, don't answer because you don't owe anyone an answer as to why. That applies to families no matter how hard some don't believe in the concept of boundaries.
Take care of your mental health. As someone who was emotionally and mentally abused by the Catholic Church, this felt like something I should've done a long time ago. Find a good therapist or psychiatrist especially one that specialize in treating folks with religious trauma. I've been seeing a therapist and I'm still in the recovery process since I got mental and emotional scars that won't heal right.
If you're pagan like I am. Look into Easter's origins before Christians came and ruin everything like they always have for milenia. Self-reflect on Ostara and the arrival of spring means to you meditate on that.
You're free to reblog and add more to the list and you can hashtag it as well in your reblogs so be sure to enjoy Mardi Gras, dance, eat, drink(responsibly), catch some beads and maybe engage in as much debauchery possible just don't let the debauchery doesn't land you in jail.

This week I had kind of a rough time with migraines so my anti lent project suffered a little. But this weekend I pulled myself together and sorted through my depression doom-pile of letters opened and un-opened of the past two years. Now I have 11 smaller doom piles. It’s a little improvement. At least one pile a day seems more manageable than one big mountain of stuff. may the universe give me the strength to sort my shit out in an effective and non-humiliating manner.

That's right also happy Valentine's Day. I know, ew! Both at the same time I am shocked and appalled.
Tumblr media
But in that spirit of Anti-lent I had a very delicious Dairy Queen lunch since I refuse to fast and give anything up for 40 stinking days and continue to do so and drink lots of water to stay hydrated

wishing all the ex catholics a very happy beginning of anti-lent

At the Hotel Roosevelt office of "10 Million Americans Mobilizing for Justice," volunteers use adding machines to tabulate signatures obtained in a nationwide drive opposing the censure of Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy, November 26, 1954. They were unsuccessful: the Senate voted to censure him on December 2.

I made an Apostate Easter playlist last year and shared it here, so here's this year's.
It's a mix of apostate jams/songs I interpret as apostate jams/songs that have personal meaning for me related to my deconstruction journey as well as some unrelated stuff I've had on heavy rotation lately.
Check it out if you want to:
Sending love as always. 💜

The Parable of the Younger Son
Once there was a father who had two sons. The older son was obedient; he followed his father's rules and he worshiped his father's god. The younger son was restive and rebellious, and as soon as he came of age, he left home.
"Fine, then," his father said, "take your inheritance and go. You'll come crawling back home soon enough."
And so the son set out to make a life for himself. But when he checked his saddlebags he found that his father had given him far less than he had promised.
He soon spent what money he had on frivolry–a haircut, and a new set of clothes, sex and wine and a kiss in a dark club. He struggled to find a job, and at last he found himself working for another rich man. There, he was paid so little that he went hungry, and as he fed the pigs their daily meal of scraps, envying the animals, he said to himself:
"I will return to my father's house and beg for a job, for even his servants are treated far better than this."
When he returned home, his father ran out to meet him with open arms.
"My child! My child who was dead has returned!" he said, and embraced him. "I will slaughter the fattened calf for you, but first you must do this thing for me: let me call you my daughter, and dress yourself in girl's clothes, and leave your friends, and follow my god, and don't go out at night to kiss in dark clubs, and obey me in everything."
His son turned away, with tears in his eyes, and said, "I would rather eat the pig scraps."
"Ungrateful thing!" his father shouted after him. "Prodigal, sinful, lazy and lascivious slut! My child is truly dead!"
When the older son came outside to ask what the racket was all about, he found the old man alone, standing in the middle of the road.

anti-lent day 1
ash wednesday is both the first official day of lent (yuck) and a day of fasting so we're gonna start out small and inconspicuous
inconspicuous: make yourself a hot drink that feels indulgent.  get out the good tea or make your hot chocolate with milk or sweeten your coffee with maple syrup or whatever you like.  once it’s in your mug, chances are nobody’s gonna notice anything.
defiant: forget the fasting guidelines entirely.  eat a meal (ideally a hearty one, but even a sandwich will do) that has meat.  have dessert.  treat yourself to a meal/dessert out if you have the money and it won’t raise any eyebrows at home.  this is hard. i know.  my first time breaking the fast deliberately i ate one piece of salami and then i had to consciously avoid praying for forgiveness the rest of the day.  so don’t worry if it’s hard, or if you can’t do as much as you’d like

monstr(ous)ance
You made me pour myself out like you wanted to drain my stomach and put up a new housing development in there. But what were you housing? You said it was Truth, that if I just threw up enough of myself in front of the altar, something holy would move into my body, would breathe inside of me like a second, hungry mouth.
Monstrance. Funny how that word sounds just like monstrous. The thing is, fasting did make me feel holy. It made me feel hungry. Hungry is good. Hungry is a lot like empty. A lot like suffering pleasure from pain, a blinding fire of self-righteous satisfaction. Joy from hunger, joy from pain, joy from the red blood running down my drain.
I asked you for the stigmata. You blessed me with pain. What good is a vessel if it's not empty?

For Anti-Lent this year I will do one scary thing per day and learn how to (a) overcome or at least sit with the anxious feeling and (b) monitor what those emotions do to my body - I have a feeling my anxiety and my migraines might be related- and hopefully (c) take care of myself by doing the hard things.

As Indigenous woman filmmakers, we knew that our path through the industry would be narrow and that our film, Fancy Dance, would have a small window for success based on the abysmal record of representation for Indigenous folx in Hollywood. As such, we channeled our collective wills as granddaughters of Dust Bowl survivors, descendants of genocide and avowed followers of the indomitable Merata Mita to give this film the best shot possible. If there existed a “how to make a successful movie in Hollywood” checklist, we followed it to a tee. Step one: Create a compelling script (after her sister’s disappearance, a hustler kidnaps her niece from the child’s white grandparents and takes her to the state powwow in hopes of keeping what’s left of her family intact) – check. Step two: Find top-tier producing partners (Nina Yang Bongiovi, Tommy Oliver) – check. Step three: Cast amazing actors at the top of their field (soon-to-be Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone) – check. Step four: Premiere and screen at world-renowned festivals (Sundance, SXSW, BFI London) – check. Step five: Receive excellent reviews (THR called it “exceptional”) and festival prizes (Hamptons, L.A. Outfest, Mill Valley, NewFest, Sun Valley, Tacoma) – check. Step six: Get a distribution deal – …crickets.
