"the writers are racist but the show isn't", yeah the totally not racist actions of having their first black character be a scantily clad thief subservient to a white woman or their first asian character be a nonsensical mashup of chinese & japanese cultures or one of their girlboss characters being based off a nazi or killing off their first south asian character in her first five minutes or getting their native american character's last name entirely wrong or having their latina character wear booty shorts & a chainmail in the desert while she's participating in human trafficking or having their racial allegory be mainly represented by white characters while allegorically stealing the experiences from black americans as admitted by the creative director or —

Trump's disrespect for Puerto Ricans is intentional. Don't believe excuses from his campaign.
Republicans and MAGA handlers are busy trying to come up with ways to disassociate Trump from the orgy of racism he conducted at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. If you believe those excuses then you probably also believe that Trump was faithful to all three of his wives. 😂
For starters, Trump micromanages his rallies. He even personally curates the shitty playlists people hear at them. Remember how he abruptly ended a question and answer session in Pennsylvania so he could mindlessly sway to music of his choosing for almost 40 minutes?
youtube
Some Republicans are trying to claim that Tony Hinchcliffe was acting on his own with his anti-Latino disrespect on Sunday. That is total bullshit.
His references to Puerto Rico were on a teleprompter, the same one used by Trump, they were not something off the top of his head.
Like the rest of the speakers who took the stage before Trump, Hinchcliffe’s remarks were pre-loaded into a teleprompter, indicating that they would likely have been vetted by the campaign in advance.
In fact, Hinchcliffe's comments were screened ahead of time by the campaign. The Trump managers decided to leave in Hinchcliffe’s racist comments but grudgingly made him remove an obecenity regarding Vice President Harris.
“He had a joke calling Harris a ‘c---,’” one campaign insider involved Sunday’s Madison Square Garden rally told The Bulwark. “Let’s say it was a red flag.” Four sources in the Trump campaign told the publication that staffers asked speakers to submit draft speeches prior to the event. It was while reviewing Hinchcliffe’s draft that the problematic remark was spotted, and the comedian was asked to remove it from his script.
Of course Hinchcliffe was not the only person spreading hatred at the Trump rally. But he was the first, and set the tone for the rest of the disastrous Trump event.

Reverse Racism; A much needed article/informative post, because if I see another racially illiterate mofo watering down racism to “just another discrimination, I'm gonna fucking combust.
Main source is The Conversation's article on this topic. Content warning for mentioning of discrimination and neo-nazism.
Ah, yes. Racism, that infamous word. This important word needed to help us understand the social relations that are affected with this element.
It is a very great watershed, indeed. Specially because of one controversial topic: Reverse Racism. But what is reverse racism, after all?
Reverse racism is the idea that racism can happen to white people and that white people can/are affected by racist violence by (normally) non-white people. In other words, a myth.
“But Angelle, ain't racism discrimination based on race? Wouldn't that include discrimination against white people as well?” Great question, little grasshopper, but this definition is actually wrong.
Sure, racism does involve a huge discrimination element, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. The correct definition for racism is Prejudice + Power. More specifically, institutional power. Racism is, at it's core, an institution and an structure, made to protect and put white people at advantage.
And this is basically it. Reverse racism does not exist, and if you believe it does, you are either naïve and racially illiterate, at best, or a whole white supremacist, at worst.
Iiihh, are ya surprised? Well, don't be, because this rethoric of anti-white racism is a racist and a neo-nazi belief. Many white supremacists across the world use phrases like “white lives matter”, “all lives matter” (that one a little bit tricky, because all lives indeed matter; but here's the thing, that is what the anti racist movement is here for! And the women's liberation movement! And the mogai activism! The “all lives matter” does nothing but take the focus away from minorities subtly, so it's real important to pay attention.), “It's ok to be white”, and nanananana, and this kind of shenanigans. Many of them are also dog whistles (see Anti Defamation League's dog whistles glossary for more information).
In conclusion, reverse racism does not exist. It's just another racist rethoric, and y'all need to learn to listen to people of colour when we say something is bullshit. Thank you for coming to my ted talk and have a great day.

Sticking this on here even tho it's a general Sitewide Problem - I'm sick of people making excuses for retroactively adding more bigotry into tf2. It feels like people are only capable of thinking about marginalized people (especially "in the past") as our suffering, so writing a gay character, or a trans character, or a black character, or etc. must involve them suffering somehow. People go to such fucking lengths to pull hypothetical marginalized people out of their ass who LOVE writing about characters like them experiencing hate crimes as "coping", but In My Opinion your coping should not involve publicly making a bunch of joke characters from a comedy video game get called real slurs that affect people in real life. Even if your point is "bigotry is bad", not every single fucking thing that has a black character or a gay character in it has to be About Bigotry. You all let white characters just be characters, but the minute you wanna put Demo tf2 in your fanfiction you need to take some great stand against racism and choose to do this by portraying him suffering. I don't care if it's to show that Racism Bad - you NEED to learn to love marginalized people more than you hate bigots. Never mind everything I could say about how actually no, it would not be "period accurate to the 1960s" for everyone to constantly be spewing or facing racism and homophobia. Acceptance and taking stands against bigotry aren't new concepts. Your "historically accurate" tf2 fanfic has done absolutely nothing except show a bunch of already marginalized people that our suffering is more important than our joy. In My Opinion

it wasn't enough that arizona's japanese internment camps were placed on gila river indian community and colorado river indian tribes' land as "reservations within reservations" (and against the desires of GRIC.) now i get to learn that chinese and japanese immigrants evaded the chinese exclusion act by traveling first to mexico and then to the u.s., entering through o'odham land, through the late 1800s own flavor of "prevention through deterrence," while the u.s. used what is by all rights a diverse and abundant desert to kill them, just as they do latine migrants today. and now i feel like i have to tell everyone i know about this because nobody told me. our fates as illegal immigrants are so tightly bound up i want to scream.

wait i had a whole rant about this i didn’t tag the other day because again, there’s just so few indigenous people in the rtv fandom i don’t love the idea of talking about something as controversial as pretendians but it’s been gaining traction on twitter and…..like if you want My Opinion As Someone With Indigenous Heritage i think brooklyn has a lot of red flags that are typically associated with people lying about indigenous heritage whether it was a family story she just never looked into or a lie she concocted herself. At the same time, I don’t love the idea of a bunch of people who are not Indigenous weighing in on Brooklyn’s background because there’s been several high profile “pretendian hunters” who went after people who ARE indigenous but are basically not The Right Kind Of Indigenous and it’s been a massive issue in the community and I feel like if I start saying “i think brooklyn might be lying about being apache and cherokee” that’s going to help open the door for some really racist discourse especially if she IS just part of that Not The Right Kind Of Indigenous group.

People should not kid themselves. Trump hates Latinos and has a history of considering them to be less than human.
The MAGA Trump Hispanophobia was on full display at Madison Square Garden in New York City – a city whose population is 28% of Hispanic origin.
This type of rhetoric and insults was nothing new for Trump...
'Drug dealers, criminals, rapists': What Trump thinks of Mexicans
Ana Navarro: Trump 'putting a target' on Latinos with 'not people' comments
Trump's new pitch to Latinos is predictably insulting
'Poisoning the blood': Trump’s ugliest moments on immigrants
Trump particularly has it in for Puerto Ricans. Perhaps he's too stupid to understand that they are American citizens and can vote in the 50 states.
Apparently Trump wanted to sell Puerto Rico during his term of office.
New York Times: Trump considered selling Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, former acting Homeland Security chief says
I'm guessing that one of his totalitarian bros in Russia, North Korea, or Saudi Arabia would have been the most interested in such a sale.
If Trump and his pals blatantly speak like this at public rallies, it's likely that what goes on privately in their minds is even more dark and disturbing.

The Trump campaign is puzzled why Puerto Ricans don't like being called "garbage".
Donald Trump has a serious Puerto Rico problem — in Pennsylvania. Many Puerto Rican voters in the state are furious about racist and demeaning comments delivered at a Trump rally. Some say their dismay is giving Kamala Harris a new opening to win over the state’s Latino voters, particularly nearly half a million Pennsylvanians of Puerto Rican descent. Evidence of the backlash was immediate on Monday: A nonpartisan Puerto Rican group drafted a letter urging its members to oppose Trump on election day. Other Puerto Rican voters were lighting up WhatsApp chats with reactions to the vulgar display and raising it in morning conversations at their bodegas. Some are planning to protest Trump’s rally Tuesday in Allentown, a majority-Latino city with one of the largest Puerto Rican populations in the state. And the arena Trump is speaking at is located in the middle of the city’s Puerto Rican neighborhood. “It’s spreading like wildfire through the community,” said Norberto Dominguez, a precinct captain with the local Democratic party in Allentown, who noted his own family is half Republican and half Democratic voters.
Trump is speaking at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania. An appropriate protest would be to leave bags of garbage there with TRUMP written on them.
Schools are being closed in Allentown on Tuesday – but not to honor Trump.
And in a sign of how worried local residents are, a school district in Allentown announced Monday morning that it had canceled classes for Tuesday, when Trump visits.
Did the Trump campaign understand that there are over 400,000 people of Puerto Rican descent in Pennsylvania before its orgy of anti-Latino hatred at MSG on Sunday?
“I’m not a Republican, I’m not a Democrat, I’m independent,” Lugo said. “But at this point, it’s not about political, partisan issues. It is about the respect and honor our Puerto Ricans and Latinos deserved as citizens and legal residents of this country, that’s the issue.” “We held Trump and his campaign responsible for this disgraceful act,” he added. State Rep. Danilo Burgos, co-chair of the “Latinos con Harris” group in Pennsylvania, said residents have spread the comments on social media and within Philadelphia’s Puerto Rican community. “I saw two ladies in particular saying they were considering voting for Trump, but they’re not now,” he said, “because of the comments.”
When a candidate treats you like garbage, it's only fair to respond in kind.

Ok so, a little bit of context behind this. Erica Mena, a mixed latina, called Spice, a dark skinned black woman, a monkey along with blue monkey. Then wished her death.
I just want y’all to peep how the BW defending Erica calling Spice a monkey sound like.
Tumblr media
It went from “Black people come in all shades and colors!” To “The monkeys are all shades and colors too! If you call a black person a monkey, it’s not a racial epithet!”
Like-
Tumblr media
Here’s a helpful article about Erica Mena and the clip of her yelling monkey at Spice
@thisismisogynoir
Also, question to the Afro-latinas who see this, do y’all even see Erica as Afro-latina ? Considering she says she’s Afro-Latina

I'm honestly so repulsed right now at the racism that I've just seen within my classroom. I had to watch a video lecture of a non black man speak in AAVE then proceed to call it "improper english" and say something along the lines of it being for the "uneducated, low class social groups, or low status people". I have heard the stories of what it's like to be within a PWI but the fucking audacity of the professor to be pretentious and racist towards black people honestly infuriates me.

"Westerners are always talking about this" when the topic is about anti black racism
"You guys are so American centric" when the topic is about anti black racism
"Not everything has to be woke" when the topic is about anti black racism
"Gringos need to stay over there" when the topic is about anti black and anti indigenous racism started by afro latinos
People who talk like this and believe everything is an American/Western point of view love to ignore the blatant racism my siblings face in their countries.
