my actual gripes with the show, based only on the first two episodes (after this im done, prommy)
thot the directing and writing was shite, as well as weird cuts that seemed incredibly clunky. in short, the artistic merit fell short. it doesn't have to be this way. maybe im too picky but this kinda stuff hampers my enjoyment every single time. the actors did a fine job, no complaints there.
too many things had the typical "cheap" look that has become so common in shows on streaming platforms. it constantly reminds me that im watching a show and it just ruins my immersion. maybe i should have watched it on low res on my laptop instead? idk
the opening scene made me feel absolutely nothing at all!
the gore didn't even feel, like, interesting. it was just "oh, okay then".
the humor was forced and weird. some parts were fun, like lucy's vault dweller personality/politeness, but then there's "haha, this guy tried to fuck that guy's chicken. please laugh!" 🤨
we already all know how i feel about the ghoul. what even was that introduction??? (or rather, re-introduction) and that shootout scene was a joke. there was no flow, nothing. the dialogue was especially stupid in that scene. and ofc, again, it all looked like such a cheap set. i dind't buy it one second. additionally, i actually feel his acting is the worst of the lot.
the bos was shitty, which is accurate and okay, but since when
a) do they brand the squires 🤨 (especially with maximus being black. wtf!)
b) are the squires literal adults who carry around "their" knight's (🤨) shit
c) do the "squires" call "their" knights "my lord?" 🤨
d) would even the shittiest most useles bos knight be scared of a yao guai????????????????????
and the whole religious aspect to it all was too much. yes, they are cultish, but not quite like that. and what was up with the voice distortion from the power armor helmet?
ofc im also not a fan of retconning/making certain things canon (im assuming that was the prydwen?) but i ciould ignore it if i genuinely enjoyed the rest
that's all i can think of rn. i wish i wasn't so bothered bc i ofc didn't expect much but i love fallout so this is all still disasppointing to me.
whatever!
im glad so many other people managed to enjoy this slop.
my mother also had fun but she has only played some parts of fo3 and knows enough not to be confused. plus she likes the music ofc. i think she's gonna keep watching and enjoy it so that's good. that's the one good thing: i had a nice little afternoon with my mother watching telly and eating junk food :D

You know Ghoulcy has become a very serious threat when antis are literally forgetting that their ship IS the main cannon ship. Because what do you mean you'll cry if Vaultknight doesn't become real?? They ARE real. Did we somehow slip into an alternate reality where they aren't canon? Like please be so serious right now 😭😭

Saw a reddit post claiming the new fallout show promo art is AI generated, similar to the last promo art [tumblr post] [article]
Plus some zoom-ins of what OP circled. Here's a link to the art
A lot of people aren't convinced!
Any thoughts?

you're just mad at hotd because you don't like how they handled YOUR fave not because it's a bad show
You know what? it's funny because I started criticising game of thrones and started talking about how bad the show was getting and how problematic the writing was back when season five aired (and again with season 7) and I was flooded with messages in my ask and on my posts telling me to shut up, stop watching and that I was only mad about how my favourite character was being treated. Then those same people were having meltdowns over how bad and misogynistic the show was after shutting down actual criticisms for years. I guess what I'm saying is.. I will see you when season 4 of hotd airs and you realise how badly everyone got fucked over and how truly bad the writing and characterisation in general really is.

Why This Invite is only sent via DMs?
Lately, the Wasteland has been crawling with antis like Radroaches on a hot day (the antis Ghoul/Lucy have me biting into the wooden floor like I genuinely cannot stand seeing this amount of hate for fictional people like there are so many REAL issues that need your focus more than a hot radioactive cowboy and his hopeful feral girlfriend babe but YOU DO YOU I GUESS).
To keep our Bunker cozy and free of drama, we’re giving them via dms. This way, we ensure only the shippers get in: no antis allowed! 🚫🦀
What You’ll Find Inside?
💖 Shipper’s Paradise: A safe space dedicated to the radioactive love between Cooper and Lucy. If you're here for that ship, you're in the right place!
🖌️ Creative Corner: Unleash your inner artist, writer, or video editor. Share your fan art, write your own Vault-Tec love stories, and create epic video edits!

why do you hate Joshua Graham or Honest Hearts so much?
This DLC and character represents a bigger issue with fandom spaces I have but particularly fallout fandom in general.
Fallout tends to tackle a lot of topics controversial and not. The first two games it’s heavy cause they are the most satirical and direct with how anti-war, nationalism and etc… they are. 3 loses this as it’s very clear once you play or learn about all the games that Todd and a bunch of guys at Bethesda just liked the 50s post apocalyptic aesthetic and refuse to actually critique the ideals of the time period like the earlier titles.
New Vegas is the game that really gets back into it a degree it almost seems like it’s taking too much on. There are things done exceedingly well while other things are done horribly wrong . I’ve made posts about it before and plan to make a big series of posts (it’s a lot of writing) but my biggest gripe is with Honest Hearts and all the gross and white savior esque depictions it has of indigenous peoples. The entirety if FNV does not do the injustices faced by indigenous people correctly on any count. My two biggest complaints are with the Khans and the tribes in Zion but I’ll talk about the former on a different post.
Both characters of Daniel and Joshua are the most accurate depiction of white saviors I’ve seen and I hate how the DLC tries to justify and defend them. The DLC treats Joshua like this man who has repented for his past actions when he is just retracing his steps after his cruelty bit him in the ass. He was one of the worst parts of the Legion and it is all but explicitly stated that if you don’t force him to be non-violent he will turn the tribes of Zion into the legion 2.0. The Dead Horses and the Sorrows are horribly infantilized by both Daniel and Joshua who both use them for self serving purposes guised by religious duty. The White Legs are the horrible stereotype of violent and savage indigenous and I personally think a lot of their interlinking with Ulysses, his hair and Ulysses character in general are distasteful and very telling of how BIPOC or POC where involved.
But outside of the game it’s the weird obsession people have with these characters ideologies and trying to make them seem more interesting/philosophical than they are. Tumblr is an echo chamber and many fans of Fallout are not the people on this site. Many people are not educated in the issues these characters convey and how poorly they do or used these characters as a poor introduction for their takes. Contrary to what a lot of people believe in, fallout has a prediomeny white cis male fanbase. More importantly a large portion of the fanbase is white.
You can joke how FNV made you trans or see the numbers on post/fics or diverse headcanons but these are kiddy numbers compared to the millions that consume the franchise and aren’t in those more aware spaces or don’t engage in the spaces the same way someone like me does/has to. Their views shape a lot more than people realize and it’s exhausting to be in a space where people don’t correct the more subtle yet toxic aspects of it but also adopt them into some weird quirky view point on the characters or issues. Some people don’t realize and some people don’t care.
My main issue is just the idolizing of these sort of thing in this fandom space and people try to acts like a game like fallout whose tagline is “War never changes” and has never had a game not revolve around political or militaristic factions issues isn’t that deep or doesn’t relate to real issues. I think it’s mainly caused by how over powered you can become and how you can strong arm your way past these learning moments as majority of people who play this game do play it as a power fantasy where they can do so as they please (which of course, go ahead it’s fun) but never take in parallels or lessons in the story as if it was just another first person shooter.
Also like another personal gripe is Cazadores spawn like hell whenever I’m there and I have not found a mod that works to mod them out so I have to play Indigenous Racism the DLC while getting jumped by giant wasps WHILE helping Mormons. Like I cannot catch a break.

Okay, I have to rant about the one thing about the Fallout show I just hated.
The Ghoul.
I'm sorry, I think he is the weakest character in this whole series. Believe me, it pains me to say it. When I saw in the trailer I was like, "Oh yes, a clever and charismatic, morally ambiguous rascal". I was expecting Boyd Crowder. I got a busted up Punisher/Deadpool mashup who stands out in the open, runs his mouth, then survives every scene only because every other character is made an idiot who can't shoot straight and is forced by the narrative to stand there dumbly, a captive audience to his monologues. His plot armor is ridiculous. He's just terribly written in my opinion.
Were it not for his screentime, his top billing and his flashbacks, he would just be a cartoonish secondary antagonist.
The thing about a good anti-hero/villain/whathaveyou is not knowing what they're going to do in any situation. I knew exactly what he was going to do every single time. Run his mouth, murder everyone in the scene, smirk, repeat. He's not morally gray. He's not complicated. He's not interesting.
And, I'll say something even more controversial, I don't even think he's that well written in his past life. Although I *did* enjoy the flashbacks leagues more than I did his post-apocalyptic self, he was kind of a plot device to get to their VaultTec conspiracy story more than he was a compelling character.
Also, his one funny line was the one in the trailer. I said it.

The thing thats consistently bothered me the most in the fallout show is the racism. I would hesitate to recommend it because of that alone. And there was obvious love that the set and prop designers, actors, costume department, and even maybe the writers put into the show! There are themes and characters in fallout that i'm certain would resonate with fans of color!
It KILLS me that so many of the fallout entries are damn well unplayable/watchable in this regard because the writers simply Don't Care how the people in their work are presented. That this like hugely popular world with a lot of worldbuilding and thought behind it does such wrong to so many people, fans and otherwise, that you cannot find any game in the series that does it right or well. It alienates a lot of people who might've been fans just because the majority white creators and fanbase don't give a shit, and I'm sick of it.
it's not enough to say "in the fallout in my head that racism doesn't happen," you actually have to put some things into PRACTICE. Allow space in your head, your games/show, your fan spaces for people of color! notice and say something when you see racism coming from media, yourself, and others!

I'm so sorry y'all, maybe I missed something, some type of scene, something somewhere but I have no fucking clue how you can get lucyXcooper out of this show.
I truly don't gaf about rarepairs or enemies to lovers or shipping just cause you like how they look together or just cause it's fucked up but like genuinely saying they had good romance chemistry (better then Lucy and max even???) Is genuinely mind boggling to me.
Ship what you want, just don't lie to me?

Been watching the Fallout television series and it's fascinating. I'm getting stuff that I assumed would be there but then they're throwing in some themes and ideas that I was really not expecting. Now, it might shit the bed on some of these ideas, as I still have an ep to go, but so far I've been loving it.
Some of my fave themes and thoughts:
The world is cruel and wants you to be cruel. How hard do you fight to stay kind? (Because it will be a fight and it will be hard.)
At what point do you stop becoming a spectator to horrible things and instead become culpable?
Where does being happy with the way things are end and cowardice begin?
When something is wrong, at what point are you obligated to fix it?
Is willful ignorance ever the correct choice?
Not all bravery is stepping into danger. A person can be brave by choosing kindness over cruelty. An person can be brave by accepting kindness when all they've known is hurt.
You are not your past, for better or worse. You are only who you are in the present. Who will you choose to be?
