I believe that very few humans in this world are able to not only tap into their full potential, but also evolve and specialize beyond that. These sort of people are and perhaps will always remain a mystery not only to me, but to a lot of the population. I am also of the opinion that Taylor Swift is one amongst that special group of people. I am so amazed that I get to witness her craft in the same lifetime as her.

Thinking tonight about the fact that all of these songs since/including Lover (album) were focused around this fear that one day he would leave her and like. In the end she ended it. Taylor you’ll be fine, indeed

ooh book qs! 4, 17, 23?
Thanks for asking <3
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
I read duologies by both Natasha Pulley and Samantha Shannon that I absolutely adored!! So am curious to check out some of their other books! Also Allen Bratton who wrote his debut 'Henry Henry' which was a retelling of Shakespeare's Henry V and was fantastic, weird and emotional so I will definitely pick up his future books!
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Actually going to say 'Henry Henry' again! I thought it would be a very surface level romcom retelling but it was so much more than I expected and viscerally moved me (in both positive and negative ways...) Also 'Call Me By Your Name' by André Aciman, obviously been a cultural phenomenon for years that I was reluctant to get on but I was surprised by the fact that it actually was as good (maybe even better) than people said it was!
23. What's the fastest time it took to read a book?
A day... Although so far it has actually only been one book this year and it was Shakespeare's sonnets! But I did read a number of books in two days including 'Mr Loverman' by Bernadine Evaristo, 'Murder on the Orient Express' by Agatha Christie (my first of hers actually!!), and 'The Sunshine Court' by Nora Sakavic
tag
#very fun looking back on all these books!!#also I said that so far I've only read one book in one day this year (which kind of shocking to me tbh...) bc there will be another for sur#I reread when santa fell to earth by Cornelia Funke every Chirstmas eve (and have done since I was 8 or so) and I blast through that baby i#one day easy! also in recent years have come to realise that it is an anti-capitalist critique on Christmas... so love that!#my post#tag game

I’m just gonna rant about Red for a moment here because I feel like it.
I don’t know anything about mental health disorders but I have noticed a lot of Red’s personality traits that we see in Revelations (especially) and (a little bit) in War are similar to Antisocial Personality Disorder (manipulative, aggression, hostility) and some of the things he has done in Revelations (such as going after Cornelia and threatening the midwives with a gun) could be described as ‘lack of restraint, impulsive, risk taking’ which are also signs of ASPD.
This does NOT necessarily mean Red has Anti Social Personality Disorder, I’m just saying there are similarities with his behavior and personality with the disorder.
Whether he has a disorder or not though, Red’s hatred of Caesar and his rule seems to run deep. It bothers me that we do not know anything about Red’s life prior or during the events of Dawn, especially because him wanting to overthrow Caesar in Revelations and later joining the AO army as a donkey doesn’t seem like just anger over Koba’s death (why the heck did he follow him in the first place?).
I think it’s reasonable to say that Red is likely a teenager in Revelations (maybe he, like Blue Eyes, Ash and Lake, was born sometime after Rise-like first generation of apes born after their liberation) so some of his thinking might be attributed to that but mainly it might mean his childhood was rough (Caesar’s Story also hinted at mortality rates in the early years of their freedom weren’t great: deaths in childbirth, illness, cold weather, etc).
It just seems to me that Red‘a hate for Caesar and (possibly) the other apes is much more personal than Koba’s death. My headcanon for Red is basically:
- Something or a series of events happened in Red’s childhood that made him feel rejected by the colony (not necessarily by fault of Caesar and others! Like maybe he lost someone close to him to a human (which could explain his preference to Koba’s rule over Caesar’s), or Red was in a situation where he needed help but no one knew or how to help him (such as if he was abused by a parent or orphaned at a young age) and he felt abandoned by them).
- If humans did have something to do with Red’s life before War, it likely would have involved his parents. Maybe his parents were abused by humans and thus taught Red to hate and fear them, or maybe one or both parents were actually killed by humans sometime between Rise and Dawn.
Another thing I notice is Red never interacts with Blue Eyes or Lake in either Revelations or in War but he does with Winter and Grey (in Revelations).
This may not mean anything but it makes me wonder what Red’s social life was like before he turned on the apes. I think it’s safe to say he and Winter had an ok relationship before that but did he have any friends his own age? He kind of seems like a loner to me.
What is also odd to me is, despite being a gorilla, Red prefers manipulation and underhanded tactics (in Revelations) as opposed to physical violence (of course he is capable of it).
This is where his age comes into play here, his ‘beating around the bush’ in the beginning of Revelations could have been Red trying to overthrow Caesar without actual confrontation and hoping the humans did that for him But it still doesn’t explain his willingness to manipulate Grey and Winter into trying to kill Cornelia, make Grey the leader, and take the colony somewhere else.
But then here’s the funny thing about Red, despite all that he is also shown to be redeemable when he saved Caesar at the end of War (which also resulted in his own death).
The look on his face as he watched the apes get shot at too!
It makes me wonder if when Red manipulated Winter into telling him where Caesar was in the beginning, if he was also attempting to save his life (given that Red and the other turncoat apes joined the AO soldiers to survive). This can’t really be confirmed though since we didn’t actually this conversation.
TLDR: Red is an under-rated and complex gorilla and I love him so much for it!
Feel free to share your own thoughts! 🦍

issues w/ the octopath fandom, racism, and ableism
whats from the source
octopath does some racist bs quite frequently.
cotc (the mobile gacha) has an entire storyline filled with anti-indigenous and racist tropes.
the mainline octopath games have yet to design a traveler with curly hair, and frequently whitewashes the tan and dark-skinned characters in official artwork (compare these with the real ones; here's partitios official cotc splash art). ochette's hair especially is straight-as-a-ruler and silver. also worth considering eye colors. partitio is sad because his concept art had only one design where he's white and a couple even had dreadlocks, and yet his splash art refuses to match his sprite colors.
the beastlings... i'm white and have done more research on the tropes in cotc since i play it more, so while i did have thoughts of my own while playing, here is a better post i found that lists off all the bad choices about them.
also worth mentioning kaldena. one of the few dark-skinned characters in the game is a villain (and also has straight silver hair). other people have also broken down what choices in temenos' story around this were bad better than i could. i can't find a post with a quick search so if you want to reblog this to talk about it i will reblog/link it.
ableism. while i am a big fan of the autism-coding in the franchise, it's still true that there are a lot of jokes made in the games at the expense of osvald and cyrus (moreso cyrus). it's setting accurate for people to be mean to autistic people, but you're still supposed to laugh at "i guess cyrus isn't actually that smart!" which pushes the idea that autism affects intelligence and maturity. i think overall the autism representation is great (pspsps my essay) but it's definitely the source of some awful shit i've had to read people say about cyrus and osvald.
edit 1: friend reminded me of something i forgot that i only learned after talking to it about it a while ago: therion's story is actually really really weird in how it tries to frame cornelia and especially heathcote as helping therion when what they did is enslave him.
whats from the fandom
fanart whitewashing. there is a lot of fanart of therion and partitio with pale skin tones. there is fanart of olberic and ochette with significantly lighter/barely tan skin tones. i'm not going to find any to link because harassment and arguing is not the point of this post, but if you've looked through fanart you've seen it.
here's their skin tones blended. even with the highlights included, they're not white. i get it, their splash art is very ambiguous from the colorism, so if you weren't using the sprites: here's your new references.
ableism directed at cyrus and osvald. i've seen people complain about osvald's personality writing and then cite ptsd and autism symptoms, so many people call cyrus stupid, an idiot, or imply he is not mature. people assume/default hc that he is bad at adult activies. he is a thirty year old professor. it is his job to be mature, good with children, smart, etc. this is infantalization of an autistic character. it's a default assumption that the autistic man is below-average at adult functions.
infantalization of ochette. there are hcs and portrayals of ochette to be far less responsible and mature than she is in canon. she is the protector of her island, it is a theme of her story that she was forced to grow up more mature than everyone else. yes, she is funny, cheerful, energetic, but some fandom portrayals of her reduce her to just that, like she's a puppy. always being irresponsible, impulsive, etc. this matches to her dynamic with castti going from the sweet found family of their crossed path into "castti is the mother who needs to rein in this wild child"- and also consider how it looks to portray the only (consistently portrayed as) dark-skinned character as wild when she is responsible and mature in her story. similarly to cyrus, people tend to default to hcs that she would be bad at normal adult activities just because she has 'childish' traits.
what do you want me to do about it
eyedrop skintones from sprites or go darker for the guys who aren't white. consider changing their hair up, like using the concept art design for partitio. drawing characters of color differently from canon doesn't solve the racism in the game industry, but it is good practice for drawing poc and representing them more accurately.
don't... insult the autistic characters. there are things cyrus is canonically bad at that have nothing to do with his autism, like singing, but don't act like he's bad at everything that's not part of his interests. real people act how osvald does due to trauma. neither of them are two-dimensional in personality, they're written with nuance and a range of emotions outside of Being Autistic.
respect ochette more. are you portraying her as only silly or the savior of her home, or both? would someone who hasn't played ot2 know that ochette has overcome challenges based on your portrayal of her, or would they think she's a comedy relief?
learn about racism. learning about what kind of racist tropes are common in media and games helps a lot with recognizing it in other places, like the beastlings or kaldena. and most of all, learning about racist stereotypes and tropes makes you less likely to perpetuate them unintentionally.
putting the cotc racism essay down here so i can say that it has spoilers for Bestower of Power if you're a cotc player. it's different from the post i linked at the start; way more focused on just the anti-indig stereotypes in the villain's design.
the last thing i want to say is oh my god i love talking about this stuff so much. if you are confused about ANYTHING i talked about or want to talk about it more, or add your own experiences, or ask for recommendations, i love that shit. i made this because i believe most people who are really active in this fandom don't do this kind of stuff maliciously, and would benefit from just having a chance to talk about it. for some reason i am very into explaining/taking apart bigoted language, where it comes from, what it means etc. Please
#wow okay this took an hour lmao#octopath traveler#octopath traveler 2#im not tagging a post as hashtag racism sorry

Names for every sprite (canon and not) - Homestuck
After this post (link), I started thinking about names for every sprite (prototyped Kernelsprites) that isn't simply their names smashed together. You can totally disagree with me :) I'm fine with it.
Yes, I will also explain my thought process and the names' meanings.
Note: I love using common words as names, but there will be other options as well :)
Note2: I find translations and meanings on google; of course I don't know all the languages of the world. So if I fuck-up some names, pardon :( (I can't fuck-up italian names cuz I'm italian tho lolz).
Note3: Not everyone has 2 names, it's hard :c
Note4: Many characters miss, and I WANT to make a second part!!! So don't worry too much about it (but you can totally contribute if you want :) )
Note5: No ship tagged cuz it's not a ship list lolz, but you can consider it like that if you want :3
Long post
Canon:
* Davepetasprite^2 = Paws, Hunter
>Paws: cuz i said so (scientific answer).
>Hunter: Both cats and crows are hunter-animals.
* Erisolsprite = Selvhad, Jabez
>Selvhad: "Self-hatred" in Danish.
>Jabez: Hebrew name, meaning "born in pain".
* Fefetasprite = Harcsa, Nyna
>Harcsa: Means Catfish in Hungarian.
>Nyna: Means "enclosure of fish" in Babylonian, but it sounds kind of like Nya/Nyan too (onomatopoeia for cats in japanese). Also, niña in spanish translate to little girl (which is cute).
Non-canon, random order:
* Johnrosesprite = Spring, Aurora
>Spring: When there's a lot of sun but breeze as well.
>Aurora: Girl-name (so perfect for Junerosesprite); an Aurora in italian also refers to Northern Lights, which are formed through "solar winds" (at least that's how we call them).
^* Rosejadesprite = Spring (it's perfect here too!!), Wisteria
>Spring: There is SUN, the FLOWERS blossom!!!
>Wisteria: Purple flower that is toxic to cats and dogs (and horses, if you care).
* Aradavesprite = Jikan, Horatia/o
>Jikan: Means Time in Japanese.
>Horatia/o: Latin names that means Timekeeper (or Hour, Time, Season). Horatia is feminine while Horatio is masculine, I imagine them simply switch from day to day.
* Jadekansprite (Jade+Kanaya) = Lotus, Zhade
>Lotus: Frogs often use Lotus leaves (alternative to frog leaves, called "common plantain" lol).
>Zhade: French name that means "precious stone". It's Jade in french, basically.
* Johnluxsprite = Netsky, Cloud
>Netsky: It's a PC virus. I choose it because of its name. Obvious reasons.
>Cloud: Another word for name srr, but John=Wind/Sky, Sollux=PC, Cloud=The thing on the sky & The App(s) (there are many).
* Solkatsprite (/Katluxsprite) = Downup, Moros
>Downup: One of the names of a powerful virus, which locks all accesses to infected advices and that permits to others to control the device from distance. It mostly uses fake anti-virus programs to spread - like "scareware" (it was used as a war weapon too).
>Moros: In Greek means "Doom"/"Impending Doom", but it also looks like moron so of course I had to include it.
* Rosekansprite = Rosemary, Ambrosia
>Rosemary: Yes, their ship name. But it simply fits!!
>Ambrosia: It's the Gods' food; Ambrosia is the *pollen* that Gods drink to stay immortal.
* Calliejadesprite = Titan, Oxalis
>Titan: Could be just me flashing like crazy, but anyways the Titans where the children of Heaven (Calliope, a Cherubin) and Earth (Jade, who saved Earth + plants + green + oh my god).
>Oxalis: It's a flower that looks like a candy cane.
* Davejadesprite = Saros
>Saros: A period of about 18 years between repetitions of solar and lunar eclipses.
* Calliroxysprite = Mojito
>Mojito: It's a "candy alcoholic drink", made with white rum, sugar, *lime juice*, soda water, and mint.
* Aratavsprite = Cornelius/Cornelia
>Cornelius/Cornelia: Means "horn" in Latin :) Cornelius=masculine, Cornelia=feminine.
* Nepquiusprite = Witten, Kamala
>Witten: Masculin Germanic name that means "Pale person" (also "Blonde" but ignore that part).
>Kamala: Hawaiian femminine name that means both "Lotus" and "pale red".
* Vriskansprite = Kyanite
>Kyanite: Blue-Green gemstone that has healing properties (allegedly), useful for low blood pressure, relief from physical pain, as well as a mind-calmer for trauma-recovery.

chloe or sam or sophia or marcus is suchhhh a karlies perspective song 🙁
anon i was LITERALLY working on a karlie perspective interpretation of this song when i saw you send this in. i think it pings very hard! and if it has taylor singing from her perspective i do think strongly that it would still be a mix of exchanges
this is all still fresh and unsettled to me but since you happened to drop me this anon at such a good time i guess ill share some of the notes i had:
i think that it is set up to evoke the image of taylor selling her cornelia street place but she was actually renting that place so it’s not a perfect fit, so i thought it is also interesting that karlie put her famous west village apartment up for sale in late september 2019 and it found a buyer by december
there’s the maroon reference and the singer asks what would it take to make this color go away (taylor was the one seeing the maroon (after the election, imo) and she uses the words saw and bones which are also in the song maroon),
also this idea of the 2016 election leading to taylor putting distance between her and karlie’s public relationship through feuding rumors. rebuilding in 2018 and 2019 to what felt like they might be publicly friends again only for taylor to go send karlie into exile again after the masters were bought, so the song sort of touching on this cycle they’ve been through.
lines like “you turned me into an idea of sorts” and “if you want to break my cold cold heart just say i loved you the way that you were” had me thinking about objet d’art and the actual muse discourse that matters—the discussion of what’s an artist and what’s a muse, and picasso discussions we have had, the picasso book on the coffee table in anti hero, the idea that taylor ended up treating karlie like picasso treated his muses, over time warping them. and the idea that karlie would have had to have changed so many things about her life and herself over the course of the decade, for taylor’s sake. and i think this could be applied to the things about herself she changed for josh as well.
that is to say i think that the song could be karlie addressing her work husband as well. the song mentions the singer’s youth in a way that makes me imagine it’s being sung to older people than the singer. plus it ends with the use of the word wonder several times, which i think links it to my interpretation of wcs, which i also think is from karlie’s perspective
i have some other stuff but these are the most complete thoughts as of this moment
