Honestly, I think that would've made for a better character arch than Max and Chloe.

Victoria is no where as stupid as Chloe and would never did something as, for an example, lay in the middle of a train track.

I adore the idea of Friends-to-Enemies-to-Friends-Again and I don't think Max x Chloe cuts it.

Also, I would've loved it if the game had further explored Blackwell Academy.

I love the whole Dark Academia vibe that the first episode had going on and I think that LIS should've maybe been like 10 EPs, most of it exploring the school and its secrets.

I feel like there is so much more to Blackwell than what we are told and the final episode left me a little disappointed that we didn't get to learn more.

Here is my own canon for what happens after the Bay/Bae endings.

Post-Bay. Max and Warren are successful Photojournalist and Science Professor, married and living their best lives while keeping in touch with their friends from Arcadia and visiting Chloe's grave on her birthday and the anniversary of her death.

Post-Bae. Time shenanigans happen which results in Max saving Rachel and because of saving Rachel she saves Chloe and Arcadia Bay. Max, Chloe and Rachel ride off in the rainbow and get their happy ending.

It's evidently clear that DE is made with complete contempt towards Chloe fans, Pricefield fans, fans of the original game, fans of the LIS1's art style, fans of Warren/Grahamfield, Kate and everyone else from Arcadia Bay. Acts like it's a love letter to Max, while alienating the core audience.

Square Enix's soulless corporate capitalism and hyperrealism made a small developer's passion project unrecognizable. To the point where we can't even recognize Max.

8. Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

I've answered it here already, but here's another thing that bugs me and I'm going to take the risk: about the games Life is Strange (1 and Before the Storm)

Rachel and Chloe were not a cute couple. In the first game "Life is Strange", it's implied that Rachel was selfish and manipulative and that she took advantage of Chloe and many people to get what she wanted, breaking hearts on her way and leaving the people behind to pick up the pieces after her. In "Before the Storm, there are many clues and foreshadowings telling us that Chloe shouldn't trust Rachel, nor get close to her, but she's just so lonely, desperate and in a vulnerable state of mind that she's tricked. This whole scene is not Rachel confessing her love or "proposing to her" - as some comments like to say - on stage / in public to Chloe while staying in character. Look well at the lines, forget they're acting a Shakespearian play, and you have a true summary of their relationship:

Rachel sent Chloe to wreak havoc for her; Chloé does and is always the one who takes the risks, always in the first line for her, and because of Rachel's influence, Chloe becomes more and more ruthless, self-centred and obsessed with Rachel, which leads Chloe to lose any friend she could make in BtS and we know how bad her relationship with both her mother and step-father is in LiS1.

After Chloe is done with a task, Rachel praises her but then immediately points out "There's more work"; even though Rachel's parents are rich and she's socially way above Chloe, she's relying on others to do everything for her. Rachel is the most desperate to leave Arcadia Bay, but Chloe is the one who has to find a car and the money to leave. What does Rachel do, except give orders and get more and more demanding? What does she concretely do for Chloe, except get her in trouble and give her some crumbs of affection/love? Nothing! She never helped Chloe find a way to go back to school, follow her studies online or anything, or even support her in finding a job! All she does is ask and take, and her pieces of advice are shit, she pushes Chloe to rebel and be unpleasant when it comes to her mother marrying again instead of telling her to talk it out with them or to give her future step-dad a chance before slamming the door shut to his face.

when Chloe reminds Rachel that she made a promise to her, Rachel either doesn't remember or pretends not to

"My liberty." "Nay, this most of all I will not grant." Rachel refuses to let Chloe go. She even has the gall to ask why! Like "Hey, why do you want to be free? Aren't you happy to serve me? Are you not having fun?"

"Yeah, but fun is not happiness!" Chloe even points out that she wants to be loved for who she truly is, not just have fun and adventures, Chloe needs something genuine, she also needs stability. But Rachel still refuses, "I hold you in my grasp" (!!!) and then even points out that seeing Chloe free, happy on her own, and seeing her thrive would make her envious. This plainly shows Rachel is an abuser! She can't stand the idea that Chloe can be happy without her, she needs to be the centre of her world!

And although Chloe reaches out for her, telling her "Then come with me, isn't that possible for you?", Rachel evades the question and basically tells her "Once we leave Arcadia Bay, I will make you so happy that you will forget that you're my prisoner and slave".

THIS IS NOT ROMANTIC! And people in the game PLUS many gamers are falling for it, since someone in the public screams "SAY YES!!" er... NO?! Chloe, run for your life!!?

Chloe was basically the caretaker of Rachel, and when Chloe wasn't enough, she looked for another. Rachel seduced Nathan (rich, abused and vulnerable but mentally ill), then Frank (an independent adult, but he was a drug dealer and not mentally stable) and then she fell for Jefferson, who had ticked all the boxes... Unfortunately for her, he was very much like her but worse!

Another point for LiS1, I don't believe David was an abusive step-father.

Is he kind of a jerk, not the most tactful, and kinda sexist? Yep, all agreed. But people also forget that this guy has fought in a freaking war! Everyone justifies both Chloe and Rachel's actions with their traumas, but no one even thinks about how this guy must be full of traumas too. What he lived explains (not justify!!) that he's a bit paranoid and adamant about following rules and laws. And we tend to forget how he had a very good intuition for many things: he was suspicious about Jefferson very early, but no one took him seriously, for one!

And back to the stepfather thing, I saw many people talking shit bout how Chloe didn't feel safe at home because of him. This is bullcrap. If Chloe didn't feel safe, then why did she take drugs in her room?! Or hid the gun she stole from him under her mattress? Because she knew she would get away with it with, at worst, a slap. A slap she pushed David to give her, which is another abuser tactic btw - one she must have taken from Rachel, as we see how her speech, manners and even clothing mimic Rachel if you take BtS into account. In Life is Strange 2, there is a scene where you meet him, and if you have a saved game with the "Chloe survived ending", we see how she and Max keep in touch with him! They write letters and send him photos, and David calls her "his daughter" and even "Sweetie" as he picks up when Chloe calls him!!! ; and let's not forget the "your old man doesn't fear the heat." So Chloe even came to consider him as her father then! Do you seriously think she would if he had been an abusive piece of shit? I don't. If anything, Chloe must have acted on her realization at the end of the first game, where she told Max that David doesn't deserve to die in the storm and reached out when she felt ready.

19. You're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…

I'm at an age where I stop caring about the internet's opinion most of the time, I just want to chill and enjoy my things in my corner xD BUT I'm quite kind of surprised and embarrassed (sometimes) at some kinks I realised I enjoy more than I thought I should (still quite soft compared to what we can find!) like spanking for example. Or when I start a story and think "URGH this character is SO annoying, I can't stand them" then it changes to either "I love them" or "I want *insert character* to tame them"

23. Ship you've unwillingly come around to

Well, I've ranted about the game series, so I'll keep on it:

I've spoken about Rachel/Chloe, so I'm not going to expand more, but for Pricefield (Chloe/Max)? Well, in summary, I'll say that Chloe did to Max exactly what Rachel did to her.

I'm not the purist kind, if you want to ship a toxic ship, it's totally okay! I can see the appeal! But most fanworks romanticise them way too much! They cut out all the toxic traits or interesting character development and make it all "pure from friend to lover" which isn't... that at all. I'd like them more if it was addressed that the pairings are not the healthiest, or if it was explicitly written under "toxic/abusive relationship"! Or just an "everything is fine/better AU", sure, go ahead! I love these AUs too, it would be fun and heartwarming to read slices of life stories/small comics with the characters without the tragedies awaiting them!

But at the moment, all I see is that Rachel was Chloe's toxic ex, and Chloe became Max's toxic ex-best/girlfriend (in the timeline where Chloe dies).

Actually, I don't have many qualms with LIS:BTS when I really think about it, comparatively I am one of the people who genuinely like it and have positive feelings towards it enough to have replayed it a few times, albeit not the 150+ hours I have on LIS1... the setting and the soundtrack. Even if I think a lot couldve been done better, I grew to love the voice acting which many hated due to being different (really, chloes va sounds JUST like a young ashly burch! What made it bad is she tried too hard to sound like chloe price, but that adds more charm, in a weird way, adds to chloe's 16 year old awkwardness)... I like what I know of Rachel in LIS1, what she represents, but loved mostly every second of seeing her in her Almost rawest state considering chloe never got to see the deepest darkest parts of her especially as Rachel grew up, she did get to see so much of what laid beneath the surface, at least, even if she never Truly knew her. Its funny how easily fans get manipulated by rachel just as chloe does, I am not one to believe she is a master manipulator at all because Im not a rachel anti just a genuine rachel enjoyer, but lijw, wow, what worked on chloe worked on you and thats pretty funny. I think what i least liked about it were the subplots but that was for the sake of adding something to keep you playing I suppose, since rachels fate is clear. So much of it made me really emotional, it kept up the themes of exploration of different family dynamics that I liked in LIS but like... Really went deep into it, really really, with multiple characters and I liked that. Took advantage of such things wirh rachels family anf chloes too. Touched on a lot of stuff I liked a lot. I liked how to see how chloe was treated by others. Liked the scene where they act in a play. Liked their fucked up codependent situationship.... I liked how awkward chloe was as a baby and how clear which parts she ended up stealing from rachels personality in LIS1 were... the nightmare scenes are so so chilling and well done I feel like. I can really feel chloes pain in them. I liked her journal and how unlike maxs theyre all unsent letters to a max that resides in her head... bah... I really like so much about bts I didnt evenget into all of it. Like LIS1 it was janky I suppose and maybe in different ways from it but I like it. Altho im rly critical of it most fo the time and share a lot of the feelints some LIS1 fans have

She has this whole thing about freedom which means she would happily support He’lena’s cause for freeing the gith from Vlaakith!

Okay. I was chatting with my friend OpossumKnight and... we came up with an interesting AU for this.

First? The year is 2022. Blackwell Academy is known for its science program and they have a former television science celebrity, Nancy Clemens, as the head of the chemistry department.

Five years earlier, William and Joyce Price moved north to Seattle with their daughter Chloe Price. Chloe was suffering from childhood leukemia and the hospital in Seattle had the best doctors to help treat this cancer. And shortly before they moved, Max's father Ryan was lost in a workplace accident.

Max kept touch with Chloe for a bit, but they fell out of touch. Chloe doesn't remember much of that time. The chemotherapy and radiotherapy and just being sick messed with her and she even missed two years of school - or rather she had to repeat a year as her grades went seriously downhill, and the second year of her therapy she stayed home. So she is heading to her Senior Year having been admitted to Blackwell Academy's science program. She sent Max a letter but never got a response.

Things didn't go well for Max. Her mother met this guy, David Madsen, who is a bit of an asshole who kept insisting Max had to "toughen up" and abused her. Vanessa ignored the abuse. She had rushed into the relationship and was being abused herself and was just withdrawing into herself. It didn't help that her church was very anti-divorce and her minister spoke of the need for women to do their husband's bidding so... she wasn't getting the social support she needed to step outside of the circle of abuse.

Max quietly rebelled. She didn't do great in school, only getting Bs and Cs, and wasn't able to get any scholarships, so she's not going to college. Vanessa has been trying to save up money for Max to go to college but David keeps raiding the college fund doing various projects to earn his family money and most of the time it falls through. (Putting security cameras throughout Blackwell is the latest of his crazy ideas to make money.) And so she's dyed her hair and she is working at Two Whales Diner (her mother works as office help at the Prescott Foundation).

Chloe has trademark blue hair... but it's a wig. She had lost her hair when she was undergoing chemotherapy, and her mother donated her own hair and shaved her head afterward so Chloe would feel less self-conscious. And Chloe so loves it that she wears the wig daily and keeps it in very good condition, and keeps her own hair short under the wig.

As for why Chloe doesn't get in touch with Max right off? She thinks Max is off to college and is uninterested in her. She sent Max a letter letting her know that she had been accepted to Blackwell. David had confiscated the letter. Fortunately, after several weeks at Blackwell, a couple of weeks, she was convinced by a couple of friends to go to Two Whales Diner... and runs into Max.

(Ironically enough, Chloe manages to befriend Taylor and in turn Victoria. Victoria was being bitchy, but upon Taylor telling Victoria to back off and how Chloe was a cancer survivor, Victoria's demeanor changes. And they kind of bond over their shared love of anime! It's Taylor and Victoria who bring Max to Two Whales.)

Chloe realizes that Max is suffering from various bruises and slowly learns that Max was being abused. Max meanwhile is shocked first that the vivacious girl she once knew is this skinny girl with pale skin and blue hair (and close-cropped hair under the wig that is still thin in a few places) and that Chloe doesn't remember Max telling her about being abused.

It takes an "accident" where Max "falls" down the stairs and breaks her arm (Max claims David didn't "touch" her but Chloe doesn't buy this at all) and for the ABPD to ignore this situation for Chloe to contact her parents. And it's two days later that William and Joyce arrive and Max is being moved out... while Chloe is leaving Blackwell and heading back to Seattle.

Two weeks later, the school's chemistry department is firebombed. The police find signs of meth production and the bombing was from a rival drug dealer... and the students behind the meth production were Warren Graham and Nathan Prescott. This was all that was needed for the Feds to descend on Arcadia Bay, find the Dark Room, and shut down a major drug production facility being run by Nancy Clemens and Sean Prescott. David was also arrested under suspicion but would eventually be released... at which point Vanessa had left him and was trying to convince Max to come back.

Max would have nothing to do with her though. And being 18 years old, Vanessa had no more rights over her. She was safe now, for the first time in years.

(Yes, Max had been dating Rachel Amber. Rachel graduated last year and was off to college, and had broken things off with Max. She had fond memories of Max but wasn't interested in a long-distance relationship.)

The embassy had been good for Dan. It hadn’t been quite what he expected when he had applied for a job. As security he had expected to do more, get into fights with the anti-meta bigots that hung around outside yelling obscenities. He had hoped he’d have gotten a chance to fight them, to feel bones crack under his hands, and to transform their looks of disgust into terror. He felt the urge crawling under his skin most days, but so far it had been unnecessary.

There was a perimeter the protesters could maintain, and they knew better than to cross it. Just stepping foot onto the property would have the cops called and dragging the offender away. Most of what Dan actually did was escort metas into and out of the building.

The embassy offered a variety of assistance programs for metas based on financial and unique biological/medical needs. There were meta specific medical clinics currently being built across the country, but the cement wasn’t even dry on most of them, and in the meantime basic checkups were performed on site at the embassy.

This meant Dan got to see a handful of familiar faces every so often. Some metas require more frequent check ups due to their anatomy, and those were the ones that had started acting strange around Dan. They didn’t seem as tense as when he had first seen them. Despite the screaming bigots, they almost seemed to relax when he walked them to the building.

He asked why one day

“Why?” Bonham seemed amused. He scratched at his dry scaly skin, the sound similar to that of scraping stones. “It’s just nice to see a friendly face is all.”

“Friendly face?” Dan frowned.

“Okay, maybe not friendly.” Bonham amended. “You’re alright, but friendly is not the right word. It’s just… nice to see someone like me. It’s nice to see someone else that’s openly meta. Outside the support group, I don’t really know too many people like me, and even then a lot can pass as non-meta. I don’t get that luxury, I’m always visible. There’s something comforting about being around someone else like that. It’s just nice having you here, even if you have a stick up your ass.”

Dan just nodded. He knew he was an asshole, Bonham was just being honest. Dan appreciated that.

Of all the regular’s Lucy was his favorite. He’d never admit it, he has his grumpy image to maintain, he resisted the urge to smile when she was around. Lucy was 8, her favorite color was blue, she had two cats named Chester and Potato, and she was covered in spines. She thought his flaming hair was neat, and she always asked him to throw her in the air. He’d look at her mom, who’d give him a smile and a nod, and he’d juggle Lucy with whatever else was nearby, usually chairs and a potted plant.

Dan didn’t have the heart to tell her he was just using telekinesis to juggle her.

Lucy’s mom, Debra, was a mess. Her hair was wild, her coat had been torn, and her eye was swelling shut. She had been crying. She was already in the lobby when he had come in for his shift. Lucy was nowhere to be seen. Dan felt something stir.

“What happened?” He tried to keep his tone even.

“Oh, Dan,” Debra sobbed, “ they took her. They have my little girl.” Something hot crawled under his skin, and he was sure his eyes were blazing red, not that he cared.

“Who took her?” His voice was part growl, part hiss.

“Traffickers, at least I think that’s what they are. All I know is they said something about getting a good price for her. I couldn’t stop them. I tried, I tried to, but I couldn’t and now they have Lucy.” She wept. “The cops couldn’t do much, so I thought maybe the embassy could help but there’s not much they can do.”

“Where?”

“What?”

“Where were you when they took her?”

“Just off of Grant street, over by the historic movie theater. Beetlejuice is playing so we were going to go see it as a treat.”

“Chloe,” Dan called over his shoulder “I can’t work today, a family emergency just came up.” He turned to Debra. “I’m going to go get her.”

Dan had rushed out of the building two where Lucy had been taken. It took him two blocks to realize he was growling, a deep rumbling in his chest that those he passed could hear as they looked at him uneasily. Flicking his tongue across this upper teeth, he felt fangs. It was then that he realized it had been a while since he last had some ectoplasm.

Dan was unique among ghosts. Most did not need to eat, and those that ate ectoplasm were even rarer. It was taboo for most. Ectoplasm made up the entire being of a ghost, and to consume it meant cannibalism, though a small number of predatory spirits needed to. Dan was a predator. He needed to consume, and at one point he had delighted in the act. He had glutted his hunger on all manner of spirits and ghosts, felt them burst under his fangs as their sweet ectoplasm coated his tongue.

These days he only ate the filtered stuff. It was stale and compared to the intensity of ecto straight from the source, was like cardboard. He ate it because he needed to, not because he liked it, and usually added it to a smoothie or protein shake. It had been a week since he had last had some.

Part of him knew he should be concerned. Hunger had an effect on him. When sated he was fine, but hunger awoke instincts in him, impulses that were hard to control at the best of times. Now was not the best of times.

He felt his form shift as he got closer to the spot where Lucy had been taken. He felt his nails grow and curve into claws, or perhaps talons. His limbs stretched and elongated, his coiled muscles propelling him forward faster and faster. He didn’t even think to fly, running felt right. His senses expanded and he didn’t even have to check the street sign to know when he had arrived.

He flicked his long tongue out. He could taste her scent. Her fear lingered on his tongue, bitter like a fine espresso. He used to love the taste, but this churned his stomach. He turned north and began to run.

He had found his trail

Dan has been having a hard time trying to blend in with humans after his okay from Clockwork that he can assimilate back into civilization. He's comfortable with himself and doesn't try to hide his inhuman features but some of the prejudiced and anti-meta folks make it harder than necessary to live his day to day life.  

So he starts researching and finds that there's a Justice League embassy nearby. What better place for people to not deal with anti-meta assholes than being a security guard there? (He later found there were frequent anti-powered and anti-League protests around the building. At least he has the legal right to throw hands with them now)
