tiktok has always been bad at this, by design, but other text-based social media apps have also been de-prioritizing external hyperlinks so that people cannot fact-check or provide their sources. This is by design!! The oligarchs do not want us spreading facts, they want us spreading and consuming lies, all the time.

I wasn't in favor of the TikTok ban on free speech grounds, but seeing people's reactions to getting this app taken away for 12 hours has actually radicalized me. This app needs to be banned, regardless of the motivation behind it. I don't care anymore.

People my age and younger are saying that they get all of their information from TikTok. All of it. They don't use Google, don't use any other website. They get their "news," recipes, leisure, all of their social connections through fucking TikTok. Saw someone genuinely say that they don't know how they're going to cook for themselves because they don't have access to fucking cooking TikToks. Saw someone say that they don't even know what to read anymore because HOW are they going to know what to read without booktok? Saw people saying that they feel suicidal and that their hands are shaky and they couldn't sleep last night knowing that TikTok was gone.

This is fucking insane. People are addicted to this. I am so fucking radicalized against this app, it's destroying us as a society. And YES, this is a TikTok specific problem, you don't see people saying that they'll fucking die if YouTube or Reddit is taken away from them, Jesus Christ.

And now, because TikTok users are so desensitized to blatant propaganda, there are tens of thousands of people unironically praising dear leader Trump for restoring their app to them. THIS WAS SUCH A BLATANT PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN, are you fucking kidding me? "We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurances"? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? This is something that a goddamn politburo would release. And people are eating it up.

I genuinely think TikTok has made the world a lot worse. Booktok supports some of the worst books with the worst concepts. The tradwife shit wasn't nearly as bad when it was just tumblr girlies talking about it. This app pushes makeup and plastic surgery and sexual "positivity" on teenage girls. It has gotten people used to watching sped up clips of TV shows and listening to sped up songs both of which ruin everyone's attention spans, plus it has made the music industry push for shorter, more tiktokable songs. AND there's all the consumerism, such as influencers showing off their "shein hauls" and honestly let's put the term hauls on the self for a little while. Everyone is so vapid and they only grasp the basics of the topics they talk about. Also I honestly believe that TikTok is the new home of misinformation and conspiracy theories, yada yada yada

I’ll get into an interview debate today: people are way to over protective of their kids these days to the point of their own (kids and parents) detriment.

This is a prime example of how social media and internet clout-seeking has absolutely DESTROYED some people's sense of empathy. A famous TikToker had her newborn baby die of SIDS, and for some fucking reason people decided it would be a great time to cancel her for problematic stuff she'd said in the past. Someone crashed the baby's funeral to vlog it and shit on the mother.

I will say that I think some of the mother's past behavior warrants an apology, but I can't get over how ghoulish it is to drag someone whose baby just died. And how much of an actual fucking freak you'd have to be to vlog and try to get clout off of a baby's funeral. I'm the furthest thing from a luddite, but Jesus, social media has really set us back as a species.

OK, new personal conspiracy theory

Those old Kidz Bop albums where they changed the lyrics of randomly picked songs that were popular at the time to be more "kid-friendly" (sometimes it was stuff that wasn't even suggestive or anything) were just a test run of the TikTok-style censorship of language we see today (like "unalive" instead of "die," for instance).
