The Smithsonian has formed a task force to address the massive collection of human remains held by its museums, which includes 255 human brains that were removed primarily from dead Black and Indigenous people, as well as other people of color, without the consent or knowledge of their families. The so-called racial brain collection was revealed by a Washington Post investigation. It was mostly collected in the first half of the 20th century at the behest of Ales Hrdlicka, a racist anthropologist who was trying to scientifically prove the superiority of white people.

TW: Description of fatal violence against a Black trans man
San Francisco's DA has released the video of Banko Brown's murder. His murderer is not facing any charges because of the claim it was in self-defense, hence why protestors have been demanding the video be released.
Banko, who was unhoused and struggled to find housing as a Black trans man, was accused of shoplifting- although his friends disagree with this (although, in my opinion, poor people should be allowed to take whatever the fuck they need & security guards are bastards too). The security guard who killed Banko, Michael Earl-Wayne Anthony, claims that he threatened to stab him, and later lunged at him, which is why he was shot.
The released video shows Banko walking quickly towards the door before being physically stopped, and then aggressively attacked- punched in the face, thrown around, and forced to the ground, all while trying to get out of the store. After he is free, he grabs his bag and begins walking backwards out the door facing the security guard, who is following him as he tries to escape.
Anthony then shot him. Because he "feared for his life."
Civil rights lawyer John Burris said: "It seems to me the officer was being aggressive, physically controlling, and beating up on Banko, who ultimately broke loose and went out the door. He turned and was facing him, and he was shot. I haven’t seen any evidence Banko was lunging toward the officer. It seems the use of deadly force was unconscionable and unnecessary" and calls into question the allegation that Banko threatened to stab the officer.
Black unhoused lives matter. Black transmasc lives matter. Donate to his family's GoFundMe for his funeral.

Quebec Sports Minister Isabelle Charest says she was "deeply shocked" by a report that a young Black hockey player in the province was made to say, "I can't breathe," as a teammate knelt on his neck.
The racist incident drew on the words uttered by George Floyd, a Black man who died while a white police officer in Minneapolis pressed a knee to his neck in May 2020, sparking protests around the world.
According to a report in Gatineau, Que., daily Le Droit, a teammate placed his knee on the back of the Black teenager's neck for about 15 seconds, only releasing him after he spoke the words.

When my body is raised, it will be a Black body. One that is honored alongside bodies of every hue and color. The resurrection of Black bodies will be the definitive rejection of all forms of racism. At the end of the Christian story, I am not saved from my Blackness. It is rendered everlasting. Our bodies, liberated and transfigured but still Black, will be the eternal testimony to our worth.
The question, “What will God do about the disinherited and ripped apart bodies of the world?” can be seen as a central question of religion. Either give me a bodily resurrection or God must step aside. He is of no use to us.
The depiction of the afterlife in which we live apart from our bodies gives physical suffering the final word. If a Black body can be hanged from a tree and burned, never to be restored again, what kind of victory is the survival of a soul? The mob, then, would be able to take something that even God cannot restore. If my cousin’s body can be ravaged by disease and lost to her forever, does that not render illness more powerful than God?
I am often asked what gives me hope to go on, given the evil I see in the world. I find encouragement in a set of images more powerful than the photos, videos and funerals chronicling Black death: the vision of all those Black bodies who trusted in God called back to life, free to laugh, dance and sing. Not in a disembodied spiritual state in some heavenly afterlife but in this world remade by the power of God.
This is the hope that had Black Christians throwing their bodies at wave after wave of anti-Black racism so that their children, even if only for a moment, might rest awhile on the shore. For them, belief in God’s power over death fueled their resistance. It may be a fool’s hope, but I believe that their struggle was not in vain. I trust that all those bodies engulfed in the sea of hatred will one day play with their descendants on a beach, singing the songs of Zion with no more waves to threaten them.

a rear naked choke is a hold widely known to regularly cause major injury and death which is why it is prohibited in combat sport competitions
to use a rear naked choke on a person is to assault them with a deadly weapon
to know how to perform a rear naked choke requires training and practice which implies knowing that using it is assault with a deadly weapon and all the reasons you should not do that without intent to kill
same as with guns
yes this also says terrible things about cops aiming guns at mostly bipoc people to enforce compliance on an appallingly regular basis, hence the bastardry inherent to the occupation
if a person assaults another person with a technique or weapon that has no use beyond violence and their victim dies, that is murder
the american criminal legal system often disagrees with this chain of logic, especially when the victim is Black, Indigenous, or otherwise a person of color, hence the bastardry inherent to the american criminal legal system
the white man who killed jordan neely may not be convicted of murder in a court of law
nevertheless

He would have been 21 years old. A full fledged American adult, who should have decades ahead of him to decide what that means.

On this day in 2014, Tamir Rice was shot and killed by a police officer outside a recreation center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Tamir was only 12-years-old. Black boys deserve to make it to and through adulthood.
Rest in power, Tamir — your life mattered.

Yep. This is the dude spewing hate on all my posts. Did he miss the part where Ukrainians were forcing black people and nbpoc to walk to the borders because they didn't allow them on the trains and busses to leave? Or that Ukrainians that did successfully escape/immigrate are upset their kids are in the same class room and vicinity of black and brown people? I'm not saying Ukraine deserved a war or anything, but I will always have concerns for my people in European countries and my concerns were justified based of their actions then and now.

DON'T STOP TALKNG ABOUT CONGO
**It’s a privilege** to look forward to the launch of the new iPhone 16, while people in the DRC face modern-day slavery, mistreatment, and abuse as they mine the very minerals that power our cherished phones. Zoya Reebye, founder of Let’s Talk WOC, sheds light on the unimaginable hardships women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo endure in the mines. From being underpaid to facing a rising rate of sexual assault, these women live through a humanitarian crisis the world must not ignore. Even as teenagers, **we can make an impact** by amplifying the voices of those working in the DRC, raising awareness, and holding companies accountable for their actions. 1. **Raise awareness** about the situation in the DRC. The more people know, the more pressure we can put on those responsible. 2. **Be mindful** of your consumer choices. 3. **Do your research.** Investigate the supply chains of companies you buy from, choose refurbished or secondhand electronics, and recycle your devices responsibly. Let’s strive for a world where our technology is not built on exploitation.
