AI art actually pisses me off so much sometimes

like sure if you want to make a rendering of something using AI for yourself or for references go ahead, no one’s stopping you

but please DONT PROMOTE IT LIKE ITS REAL ART!!!

REAL PEOPLE do art and it’s beautiful and creative and amazing in so many different ways

AI only sources those artworks to create a flawless design by accumulating what is already out on the internet- in a way it’s almost plagiarism

PLEASE DONT PROMOTE AI ART ALONG WITH REAL ART!!

Good news, fellow artists! Nightshade has finally been released by the UChicago team! If you aren't aware of what Nightshade is, it's a tool that helps poison AI datasets so that the model "sees" something different from what an image actually depicts. It's the same team that released Glaze, which helps protect art against style mimicry (aka those finetuned models that try to rip off a specific artist). As they show in their paper, even a hundred poisoned concepts make a huge difference.

(Reminder that glazing your art is more important than nighshading it, as they mention in their tweets above, so when you're uploading your art, try to glaze it at the very least.)

ai generated images make me increasingly sad and tired the more i see them in more and more casual contexts. i dont know how to explain, but it just fills the world with a bunch of nothing. no matter how visually stunning the pictures might be, there's nothing behind it for me. no dedication, no emotions, no feelings, no hard work or creativity, nothing i can truly think about, admire or enjoy. i dont think thats how art is supposed to be

HELLO! Another disabled artist here! I've got cerebral palsy and chronic pain, among other things. My hands shake and have spasms constantly, it's PAINFUL to hold a pencil for too long and painful to sit in a chair for too long. I still make art regardless! Here's some stuff (recent and not so recent) from my file roll that I'm really proud of:

Here are a few of the things I Do as a disabled artist to make the process a bit "easier" for me:

-I stick to mainly digital art (NB: this is very much a PERSONAL preference and I do not mean to say that disabled artists can't/shouldn't use traditional mediums, see the posts above where other disabled artists have found ways to make traditional mediums work for them! Digital is just a more comfortable/less painful process for ME 🫶), and I bought a very excellent "Line stabilizer" programme (its called Lazy Nezumi Pro if anyone might want to check it out. It costs £26, that's $31 USD for yall in the US as a once-off payment for a year of free updates, and you have free, unrestricted access to the latest version up until the end of your 1 Yr period, even after the update license expires. Renewing for further updates is 100% optional and not required. I'm not sponsored it's just THAT GOOD, if you want a really good line stabilizer seriously, check it out!) that I can tune to MY specific needs which means even if I have a really bad muscle tremor and my hands shake, my lineart stays nice and smooth

-Frequent breaks to get out of my desk chair and sit in a more comfy chair, I know I can stop and come back to something if I need to.

-Liberal use of reference images, especially for subjects and/or poses I haven't drawn a ton of before.

- Until very recently, I drew almost exclusively with a mouse, because it was easier and less painful to hold a mouse than it was to hold a tablet pen. However, I've recently begun to voyage into the world of using an art tablet and even though I'm probably holding the pen ""wrong"", I've found a way to make it work so it doesn't HURT if I wanna spend an hour or so on artwork for a bit :3

Other things I've not personally tried but know some disabled artists can find helpful:

-standing desks might be more comfortable for you if sitting/hunching over a desk is your main "problem" while doing art

-there's plenty of other adaptations like adapted, bigger grips you can attach to pencils/paintbrushes and the like, using an easel with a clip to hold your canvas in place etc

NONE of these things require AI. From the bottom of my heart, FUCK YOU, and stop using "disabled people deserve to make art too!!!11!!" As a strawman for your AI bullshit. We DO make art and HAVE been for years and none of us appreciate you putting false words in our mouth to further your agenda 🤗

Begging people to stop reblogging this AI trash from “The Phantom Painter” on Instagram (instagram.com/phantom.painting). I’ve been seeing it on my dash more and more often from people who are otherwise anti-AI and either can’t tell it’s AI or don’t care because it looks cool.

This is the kind of shit that is VERY CLEARLY trained on the works of existing talented artists’ with distinct styles and this asshole is selling prints and making a profit off of stealing other people’s hard work.

Don’t give people like this money or attention and they will go away.

Please, if you’re going to buy art prints, buy them from an actual artist.

I'm starting to see AI art in fanart tags and even when they are tagged as AI art, people in the reblogs tagged it as fanart.

Let me just say this once. I don't believe AI art is fanart. The way things are, it's theft. It doesn't count. The effort that fan artists put into their works cannot be equated in value with whatever an AI generates. The works with hours of applied skill and originality and love put into them are the works I want to praise on this blog.

So that being said, if I ever reblog "fanart" that is ai generated, please send me a message or an ask and let me know so I can delete it off my blog.
