I can't remember if I've written about this somewhere or just ranted in my head but I really feel like most of the things people say are "red flags" about Tamlin in the first book are just him being a fae. And most of it Rhysand does too but because he's tall dark and batty everyone thinks it's okay.
Aggressive ✅️
Overprotective ✅️
Gets mad easily ✅️
Territorial ✅️
Hides things/manipulation ✅️ (even though Tamlin had an actual reason to hide things ie. The curse small print)
All things Rhysand does too, The difference is he does it towards everyone except Feyre (debatable) so it's "acceptable".
I just don't take these people seriously. The first book was magical and full of whimsy and Tamlin was a hot kind fae.

Some ACOTAR fans are genuinely the worst people to ever exist. Because what the hell is this?
Tumblr media
These people are acting as if not putting yourself through trauma makes you a bad person. In what world?
Also these people love to forgot that Tamlin was the only one who was (semi) free. Meaning he was the only one able to free everyone else. If he had slept with Amarantha like this person wanted him to, then all of Prythian would have been enslaved, the wall would have come down because there's no one protecting/preventing Hybern from destroying it, and all the humans would be killed or enslaved.
So no, Tamlin made the right choice by not "sacrificing" himself because it was the only way to free everyone else. The only reason they are free is because Tamlin didn't submit to Amarantha and was able to get Feyre to free them.
It's such a stupid take because stories of heroes have always been about defying evil, fighting against it, rebelling. And yet somehow these people have turned that into a bad thing and that the good thing to do is to be oppressed. What kind of mentality is that? How are you going to blame the person who is trying to save everyone?

SJM fans who go "It's just fiction." when you point out a flaw in her writing are a pain in the ass. When a author wants to write about fantasy, they'll take things from REAL LIFE to put into their stories. There are authors out there who will write their ideologies into their books and SJM is one of them.
Feyre dismantling the spring court out of petty revenge? Colonization.
The inner circle not allowing ANYONE from hewn city to enter Velaris and if they did, they would be treated horribly? Segregation.
SJM describing her POC as not striking, not beautiful compared to her main characters? Racism.
Hybern being based on Ireland and Prythian being based on Britian? The portrayal and demonization of Celtic culture? Do you know what the other name for anti-Irish sentiment is? Hibernophobia. That is a one letter difference.
"Hybern's geography closely resembles that of Ireland, while Pryhtian resembles Britain. Sarah J. Maas took inspiration from both countries to create the two locations." That's from the trivia section of the wiki page for Hybern.
The fae enslaving humans for hundreds of years? And Rhys has the audacity to say both sides are wrong.
I AM NOT AT FAULT FOR POINTING OUT THESE KIND OF THINGS. FANTASY CAN BE AND IS A REFLECTION OF REAL LIFE!

Elain week being so shipped focused that the fandom couldn't think of drawing or writing her having a cute tea party with her brother-in-laws or her going to the winter court and play with vivian's and kallias daughter or her and eris collect mushrooms in the autumn court literally anything that has nothing to do with either her love interests or her superficial attributes and hobbies sjm wrote for her

"Why would you ship _____?"
WHY.TF.NOT?!?!?!
Tumblr media
Honestly, the acotar fandom confuses me so much cause I honestly believe more than half of these people haven't been in fandom ever before. Shipping has nothing to do with canon and it doesn't have to make sense to YOU. Let people ship tamlain, let them ship gwyn with tarquin WHAT'S YOUR ISSUE? How does it affect you?! Like ok you can say that you don't like it etc but is it EVER that serious?! No
Shipping is the fandom equivalent of making your dolls kiss. DON'T TELL OTHER PEOPLE WHAT TO DO WITH FICTIONAL CHARACTERS!
Tumblr media
Look at the Harry Potter fandom. Draco was a little b*tch to Hermione in canon and look at that, they're super popular and one of the biggest fanfics EVER POSTED ONLINE is based on this ship that doesn't make sense in canon for some. AND THAT'S OK
Block the tags, don't interact and ffs don't ban people for creating something that YOU don't like.
Tumblr media
Anyways, Tamberon SUPERMACY

Time for me to say ONE LAST THING on all this drama, but it's important to me.
art is a form of therapy
you do not know other people's trauma, and you sure as hell cannot know a person even if they posted everything about themselves on their blog
no one holds the right to say what is valid or invalid
The ACOTAR fandom has an exquisite way of policing trauma as well as character and ship enjoyment. the fans pick and choose who is deserving of community, kinship and basic decency.
I speak a lot about empathy on my blog because I cannot know what a person is going through on the other side of the screen, and though I don't always agree, I have enough decency not to go out and make rules excluding people, insult others, while calling myself a positive space.
Just because your trauma means that you prefer to avoid certain topics or characters does not make anyone else who enjoys said character a bad person. some people, myself included, work through trauma through art.
My writing has saved my life, and the compassion I choose to give to "fictional "abusers (btw, victimhood and abuse does not come in one absolute form and you CAN be both a victim and an abuser with a capacity to change) is intentional. I do not glorify abuse, but I understand that art and humans are nuanced.
I also think it's a real privilege to look at other people's traumas, especially intergenerational trauma which is extremely hard to overcome, and say that 'nah, that person is just an abuser'.
I think it's hypocritical to claim fight against abuse, and fight for victims of abuse while carelessly flinging 'abuse sympathizers' and other insults to people you don't even know.
You realize that's a form of abuse, too? Invalidating, gaslighting, etc.
But thank you, ACOTAR fandom for teaching me:
Thank you for teaching me my trauma is only valid if I act like the way you think a victim should
Thank you for teaching me that I do not deserve respect, even if I take extreme care to create nuanced and emotional art because you don't like the character
Thank you for teaching me that if I face my abusers through art, I, myself am an abuser
Thank you for reassuring me that your fav, who is closer to my abuser almost to a R, deserves redemption because you love him more, and he is more attractive
I have never used my trauma as a credibility card to judge and be dismissive of real people in fandom. If you want to police something, police your fucking content.
People aren't content for you to consume, and vomit your unfiltered opinions on. It's time people remember what community means, which remembers interacting with other people who are not your abusers. Maybe take a second and fucking learn about other perspectives, grow as a person or whatever the fuck you need to be a decent person.
If you plan to reblog this invalidating/arguing what I've said above because blah blah you're still upset about your fav or ship, please take a second to read the post again 'cause you've lost the plot.
Now, I'm done. Peace out ✌️
Additional note: You know what I fucking do with my trauma? I make beautiful shit for everyone to enjoy. You don't don't have to read or care about my stories full of depth and nuance, but if you laugh at my fucking memes that are for EVERYONE and you turn around and shit on people, you suck.

To this day, I will never understand people who are mad at Tamlin for not choosing to get SA’d by Amarantha. I think you can criticize all his actions UTM except for that
It’s not even something you can argue, because it’s purely based on your own beliefs. Sarah has done irrevocable damage by trying to frame it as a noble sacrifice

People who bring up shit a character did in book 1 to try and villainize them now are genuinely my least favorite kind of people ever.Especially when the character they’re talking about has so obviously changed since then and what they did is so insignificant and irrelevant now.“Lucien sent feyre to the suriel to die!! He was so mean to her!! Nesta let feyre hunt!! She was so awful to her!!!”
That happened a million years ago I DO NOT CARE!!!!

Ironic how they'll write essays about how it's fine that Feyre was a bitch and rude and suspicious in the first book because she was raised to fear the fae after everything they did to humans but then when Nesta and Elain are afraid of the giant illyrian males intruding on their space and being hostile to them, all of a sudden they should be welcoming and help them and grateful that they took them back to the Night court after they were ripped out of their beds and forced to become fae (thanks in part to Feyres loose lips and Rhysand letting the Attor track Feyre to their home) without their sister, where they put them in a house they couldn't leave surrounded by the same males who hate them (or at least Nesta) even though they were raised the same as Feyre. So I saw an opinion on Reddit today that said Cassian would cheat on Nesta 😭😭like where are yall getting this idea from??
You’re talking about the same man who couldn’t and wouldn’t have sex or a relationship with anyone else after seeing her for the first time? He straight up admitted in acosf that he hadn’t had sex in the TWO YEARS he’d known Nesta because he couldn’t be with anyone else. The same man who was upset she was taking others to her bed as her punishment but wouldn’t stop her cause he didn’t want to upset her? The same man who said after their first time together that it was the best sex he’s ever had in his entire 500 years of living. The same man who compared being with Nesta to the closest thing of having a religious experience he’s ever had! The same man who literally said “There will be no one else for either of us. Ever.”
The acotar fandom always manages to remind me that there are people who have zero reading comprehension whatsoever.

"It's a CANON event!" CAN you shut the fuck up?
Some of y'all gotta stop when it comes to first time readers. Let them enjoy the damn book.
If someone is enjoying Tamlin and Feyre's relationship or Tamlin as a character, just let them.
Even when they get to the second and third book, there is a chance that they'll still like him. It's not a rare thing for that to happen.
The same thing goes for throne of glass and Chaol Westfall.
And if they hate or dislike the characters they're supposed to like, that's fine too. Nothing wrong with that.
Edit: why do I keep messing up my spelling?

The same people who are outraged bc of a jockey pop culture reference fanart via a fanon/crackship nyx & tamlin with Jacob & renesmee are the same people who like, comment and reblog the hundredth jockey/ romanticist utm post where rhysand drugs & assaults feyre in canon

not gonna lie I thought twitter would be more negative towards rhysand but they all kiss up his ass like a 24/7 job. "If you hate him then stop reading the books!!!" If you hate my opinion don't listen to it. The thing I most regret in my life is being convinced back during COVID to read these books. I wish I can erase the world growl and soup from my mind. If I had a circle like ic I'd simply just kill myself. These books are porn with plot. And I have read better porn on ao3 than sjm has ever written. Back to the growl bat, he's genuinely everything I dislike in a man, simply starting with his arrogance, which by the way is the most unattractive thing and ending with how he treats women of his court.

I say this with peace and love, but no one ever has to justify why they like or created something in fandom spaces. Creatives do not owe anything to anyone, except their own self-indulgence which we are privileged to witness.
They are especially not obligated to follow any interpretation but their own because this is fandom.
If you do not like it, you say thank you for sharing and move the fuck on. You will never ever be valid in offering 'helpful' criticism, or any other non-encouraging comment unless prompted.
