Ok, but Shen Jiu being Shen Yuan's father is so funny in a very tragic way. Shen Jiu is a ball of traumas and all types of issues and i truly believe there's not a single one that man doesn't have, so, you give him a baby!Shen Yuan, a little ball of life that depends on him for survival, cannot walk away from him and is culturally wired to pretty much love him and if not, to at the least respect him above all else, you cannot tell me that this man would be normal about him. Also, imagine Shen Jiu, who'd be the type of parent to project traumas the way only a mother could, having a child that looks like him but with a "sweeter" personality (which, by the way, is bullshit, they just have never seen that boy rip into a book he disliked but wouldn't stop reading) that has the effect on men Shen Yuan has, he'd lock that boy up in a tower to "cultivate" and consequently create a rumor about the Qing Jing's beauty who was so bewitching their peak lord father locked them in a tower because that's just his luck. Loving Shen Yuan wouldn't fix him, but it'd create a whole new set of issues that'd cancel out the other ones

robert understanding that jaime was basically still a child when he killed aerys, a child given this MASSIVE and RIDICULOUS duty of being the sole defender of like 60% of the royal family except one of those royals was INSANE and EVIL, and that he reacted the way a child might which was just killing aerys before he could do any more damage……like being able to see so clearly the exact catch-22 jaime was stuck in when he’s still a teenager…..but then being completely unable to apply that same understanding to his own family, or even to lyanna & why she might have not wanted to marry him……..

"Help me," the hero pleaded.

The villain looked down at them with a scowl, their shadow a small relief to the hero's overwhelmed senses. Power correction was brutal...especially when performed on an unwilling patient.

"Please--"

"Why should I?"

The villain's boot pressed down against their chest and the hero gasped, hands reaching up to grasp at their ankle weakly. They grinned through the pain, feeling somewhat delirious as they stared up at the other.

"Because you want to," they said. "Because you can't resist the opportunity to have me depending on you."

It was a long shot. They knew that.

Still they had hope: being blindly optimistic was part of the job.

They felt the pressure on their chest increase, breaths coming out in short, wheezing pants as the oxygen was slowly stripped from them.

"That's pretty presumptuous of you," the villain said.

The hero coughed out a laugh. "Yeah...Yeah it is."

Their vision was blurring. They could feel what little strength they had left depleting, the rough ground below them growing more comfortable by the second. They shut their eyes, mind too weary to notice the weight lifting off their chest, or the arms that wrapped under their legs and back, lifting them with more care than they'd known in years.

why i love mahito

i desperately need to rant about his character because my god, hes so well written its mind blowing.

i get asked quite a bit why mahito is my favourite character, of course, i love his appearance. but i also love how beautifully complex his character is.

unlike many other anime villains, hes not evil because of trauma or revenge hes evil just because. hes evil because he follows his instincts as a curse and thats just who he is. he enjoys killing people because its fun, theres no "for the greater good of society" or "i need to prove myself" sort of tropes about him.

(i will add that i actually don’t think he’s inherently evil at all. but that will be for another post)

but this fact also doesnt make him one dimensional how alot of "pure evil" villains are.

due to the relationships established around him, the multiple different dynamics make for an even more interesting character. mahito's dynamic with the diaster curses is one of my favourites. hes shown to care about them as seen where mahito stops haruta from killing an injured hanami, where he scolds geto for putting jogo in danger and also saying he doesnt want to fight jogo when they have a disagreement to what to do with yuji regarding the shibuya plan.

he is shown to care about his friends in his own curse-y way.

mahito is an absolutely beautifully well written and developed character.

hes made to be scary, his actions have consequences

mahito killing junpei, nanami and nobara all prove this. he killed them because he wanted to break yuji and this also additionally adds another level to his character, hes a genuinely frightening villain because every scene hes in, we have no idea what to expect from him.

even his dynamic with sukuna was interesting. sukuna had a few opportunites to kill mahito, he let him off for touching his soul because they both shared a laugh about breaking yuji, which coming from a character like sukuna was very interesting.

mahito embodies what sukuna says to jogo about what being a cursed spirit entails. and i think thats why theres some level of mutual interest. mahito is exactly what jogo couldnt be. and thats also another reason the disaster curses made mahito their leader.

mahito is what a true curse is.
