Asking you bc you’ve been on SoD forever and I have freshly remade my account. Rip to the dragons I had in…2015-2017? Idk. I made it to user rank 50 and I’ve been searching literally every NPC in every area and I think I’ve genuinely run out of the free quests. And the expansions you can buy for coins. Problem is, I only have 700 gems. Is there anything else I can do until I can buy an expansion besides farming and stable quests? I’ve already burned through the broadwing courses for my sand wraith + Hookfang.
(also I just sent a friend request! It is from skiiink)
Personally I've been entertaining myself with grinding the dragon tactics stages for rare loot (I WILL get grimmel's crossbow. I WILL make it canon that my viking stole it from him at the end of the hidden world expansion. fuck you old man), and since the sod wiki is a mess I'm having to figure out where to get shit myself like the good old days. Racing can also be fun. Another good pastime is flying around on my fuckoff huge timberjack and mesmerizing the playerbase into following me around. Besides that there's not much more to do than wait around for seasonal events and rapidly move your cursor across your dragons as if you're petting them, as I like to do.

re: the cigarette post, I think the point about having a “strong smell on you is Extremely Rude” might be worth discussing? Because you’re right, some folks do have allergies to certain perfumes and colognes. They might have asthma and not be able to spray anything, but deodorant alone might not be enough for them.
My own roommate is in this category—because they’re entirely reliant on deodorant and sweat more than the average person, they always have some level of body odor. There’s nothing else they can do about it without risking their own health, even if other people are upset by the smell.
Similarly, people might have strong medicinal scents on them from medicine they need to take, or they might have a strong scent of cologne/perfume from trying to cover it up. Other folks might smell of smoke because they just don’t have access to a washer/dryer and a change of clothes everywhere they go.
Point is, a lot of what gets called rude is just folks existing and making the best of their situation. I have pretty bad sensory issues myself, and I know how overwhelming it can be! Everyone is allowed to feel annoyed and dislike certain scents and not want to be around them. But when we associate factors outside of many people’s control (as opposed to watching tiktok on full volume on the bus) with rudeness, that can hurt a lot of people too.
If it's not within your control it's not rude, but you should still be careful to not hurt other people.
However, wearing enough Axe Body Spray in public to be mistaken for a dead skunk is a choice, and a rude one, LOL.

INV REAL!!!!!!!!! it's just a concept but yes. real
Uhh my inv has Lore. Basically, MARS (the eldritch thing masquerading as an iterator) decided it would be fun to make a simulation where they put a scug through hell versions of the vanilla regions, just to see how hardy a scug can possibly be.
Except because MARS is anomalous and weird and stolen iterator parts don't like that, uhhhh the simulation became Real and formed a whole entire Mirror World. the Mirror World is basically Inv's campaign but it includes all of rain world and it is exceedingly weird.
Also Mirror World's timeline placement is totally fucked up because different regions have different world states basically? The mirror vanilla regions are in hunter's worldstate, since the simulation was made right before Moon was revived. But there are other regions that appear to be from Saint's time, from Spearmaster's time, or even from when the ancients were still around. It's very weird
ANYWAY uhh. my inv is based on five-lined skinks and has inverted countershading! because it's fun :]

The Ultimate Emo/Scene Name List - WARNING: Long post, and make sure you read the trigger warnings!
Having trouble coming up with a name for yourself? Do you planning on using a part of your real name but can’t find a word to go with it? Well, worry no more!
Today, I’m here to provide as comprehensive a list as possible! I’ve scoured the internet, and some sources have some problematic suggestions. So, my goal is to break down possible names into easy to understand categories. Obviously, this will be a VERY long list, so keep that in mind. There is also a section purely made up of words used in the past that are to be used/reclaimed at one's own risk/discretion due to the words being used to oppress or belittle various minority groups. I will also be sharing my sources at the bottom for stuff I used from online, alongside any trigger warnings that may be needed. Without further ado, let’s go! Also feel free to reblog with suggestions to add!

I just realized something from that reblog on LotR's lighting and how a lot of modern movies just look kinda bad.
Likely part of the reason CGI is so prevalent despite being so expensive is... because directors love showing off the Fancy New Technology, regardless on how much that technology costs, how ugly it looks, and how workers are overworked in its creation.
There's no other reason I can think of as to why practical effects are becoming more rare in modern films, like what's wrong with them? While CGI can be useful sometimes (such as being used in scenes which could otherwise be dangerous), practical effects can be used in fantastic ways (*cough* Rexy *cough*) and are often a lot less expensive.
The only exceptions I'm aware of are quite a few live action shows from Japan, and I think Shin Godzilla was made with practical effects, but I may be wrong there. Also, this. And now that I think about it, the Muppets and Sesame Street. All these show that practical effects can still work, so there really is no excuse to not use them.
Actually, this might also be part of the reason 3D animation is getting a lot more prevalent than 2D animation as well... though 3D animation has been in a sort of renaissance post-Spiderverse.
Edit: @anomalous-skink mentioned this, which I didn't really go into, but a lot of CI looks ugly because VFX artists are often overworked and underpaid due to lack of unions... which is probably another reason CGI is so widespread.
